alright. so. shadowpeach.

here's the thing. if you ship it, cool. i get why you would. it's sorta easy to see that dynamic between them in lego monkie kid. if you ship it , have at it! you should enjoy making or consuming content for whatever you like. personally, i see the mystic monkeys as having a familial or platonic type of bond between them (pre-betrayal). their relationship isn't much more than a short-lived rivalry and a murder in the book, so it's free to interpret as you will.

however.

there's a pervasive issue in the lmk fandom when it comes to tagging this ship. i think that because shadowpeach is such a dominant ship, some people think they dont need to tag it. because everybody likes shadowpeach, right? 🙄 now, ive done my fandom curation. i don't like the ship, i block the tags associated with it, and that's as far as my interactions with that tag and the folks in it goes.

the thing is, ill be scrolling through the general lmk tag, and ill see art for shadowpeach completely untagged. sometimes it's just suggesting the ship, other times it's full-on ship art. again, ship what you want, that freedom is what fandom is for.

but please, please don't assume that just because a ship is ultra popular that you don't have to tag it.

i know this is a problem a lot of fandoms have; one ship gets super popular, and then it's assumed that everyone ships it; any other points of view get steamrolled in favor of the big ship. and then the issue of people bashing anyone who doesn't ship it eventually comes up. in the course of my relatively short time in the lmk fandom, ive received more toxic anons than I have in any other fandom ive been in. ive gotten reblogs that just say "no" on my posts and then i go and see that the blog that reblogged it was full of shadowpeach.

it's just...tagging things correctly is the least you can do on tumblr. it's there for curation. please don't assume that everyone is going to agree with you just because you're on the biggest boat.

and shadowpeach is the only lmk ship ive had this issue with? every other thing that can be shipped is tagged fairly well, though i don't have anything else blocked.

i may seem to lean in more towards romanticism of zolu but imma be real here

theyre a whole secret third thing to me like— idk how to explain it it other than their love and bond transcends what romance and platonic. yes i will draw them smooching and have hearts flying all around them but it is not exactly romantic/platonic... (i mean honestly i dont mind how ppl interpret zolu whether its my art or in general)

bc i saw this one comic that just... perfectly described zolu and the strawhats to me? it was about law catching zolu and then discussing with the other strawhats about it and they explained that luffy does in fact love everyone equally and the same. for luffy, romantic nor platonic is Not a thing to him. (this is how i view luffy's aroaceness !! love isnt a category for him. love isnt something he could just pick and choose or whatever. love is just... loving someone. love is for the people very dear to him.) and in the comic, the strawhats say that zoro's the one and only guy who could keep up with luffy's energy and antics. so they dont mind the things they do together in privacy or in front of them. they know how much luffy loves them ALL EQUALLY and they all love him back

on topic of zolu and aroace... i've been around spaces and talked to a few zolu shippers (qpr shipping count) and noticed how many of us are at least on the aro/ace spectrum. there's just Something about zolu's special relationship that attracts us, and if you ship them and are aro/ace, im certain you'd agree. (even if you arent, we can mutually agree that they are a third thing, right?) like, theres something so... aroace about their relationship. they can be seen as romantic and they can be seen as platonic, but what can be absolutely certain is that their relationship is definitely queer. bc it's not something you can easily describe or that their relationship is The Norm. theyre insane for each other. luffy's the sun. zoro's the moon. luffy's a good. zoro's the king of hell. they complete each other. they absolutely need each other.

my memory is horrible and i cant say the words properly but basically: zolu's love and relationships transcends romance and platonically. yes you can see it as either, but as an aroace, i Feel it is way beyond that.

and again, will repeat it a million times over (mind you, it's not canon. it's a widely accepted HEADCANON. if you think luffy's sexuality is something else, thats cool): i believe that luffy's aroaceness is way beyond "not interested in attraction/xyz/whatever" like yeah, he doesn't think about it because it doesnt matter much to him. he doesnt apply whats romantic or platonic to HIS relationships. he can recognize romantic, sexual, platonic things. it's just not his thing to really think hard about (he doesnt think much in the first place (affectionage)) he feels love for the people he cares about and if they feel loved by him, however he approaches the love (and if they accept that kind of form) thats all that matters to him. he doesnt label/categorize love because it makes no sense to Him to prioritize someone over the other just bc he loves that someone a different way. he loves everyone equally and treats them as equals.

and when it comes to Any luffy ships, calling his significant other "partner" is what fits best. theyre not just best friends, theyre partners.

3. Who is the better cook?

Okay. im gonna answer this one in a more roundabout way, because the real question here is: who of these ships are actually doing their own cooking.

Cuz like, look, during the victorian era, these types of tasks were severely class divided. And when it came to day to day chores such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. those took so much work during the time period. Upper class people were not doing their own cooking. The cook was a very important serving position in upper class homes.

So this is all going to be heavily dependent upon who is in the ships.

Like okay, lets look to even Josephine and September. Josie has a townhouse, Sept is at Balmoral. No matter what, these two are not taking care of these places on their own, they have to have people hired to do so. So either of them doing the cooking in day to day is out. NOW if we consider backgrounds, Josephine does know how to cook from her time in the industrial school. September on the other hand grew up on a Barony, making it highly unlikely that he was ever doing any of the cooking. So, Josie wins by elimination.

Similar thing for when I answered for Jamie and The Princess. and we know intimately that the Manager isnt doing any of the cooking, so Jamie also wins out by elimination there.

with Alex and Fires i have my long running joke of Fires being completely unable to cook because it thinks setting things to a higher temperature is more 'efficient'. Alex is a good cook, has worked in a kitchen, and he likes cooking. Out of everyone here, Alex is the best cook

Which brings us to April and Rory. Now, im not entierly sure on April's backstory here, though i think its implied that she co-owned a weapons manufacturing...? I really dont know though background wise, though we know where she is now. Aurora is from an upper class background and while she may have been taught some cooking as a hobby and art, would not have been doing the cooking for the household, obviously. However i feel like nowadays with their makeshift lodging situations, the two probably end up doing their own cooking. i like to think they're on pretty even ground- perhaps they can make stuff together...

I subscribe to dadmare headcanons when im not shipping him with someone or the art im doing isnt supposed to be more canon. However i also know hes canonically abusive platonically and romantically so i combine these together to have it that he is abusive but then works on himself/passive nightmare gets revived and he becomes nicer to the team. Or romantic partner.

I refuse to believe chara is evil. I only do chara is evil if they have been severely abused and manipulated by the player, and it is the players fault. And chara either gets redeemed or finally gets to properly rest. In my opinion chara is just a traumatized kid who acted out but can be helped and be kinder. The player always exists controlling, frisk, Kris or Chara in my interpretations with very few exceptions.

I try to combined fanon with canon in ways that work for my ideas but still can semi work with the original story.

Unless its an au like were there all high schoolers or something. Where its so out of place of the original story that some aspecs just have to be fanonized to make it even work.

I know i ranted about the grampamare headcanon or the more old man version of dadmare headcanon. I apologised. Everyone has their own right to their interpretation and beliefs even if i don’t always like or agree with them.

Based on the cards, what I think is that you are kinda at a point in life right now where you are more or less satisfied with how things are going, or at least you are complacent about it. Not everything is going the best way it could, but your place either feels comfortable, or you feel like it would be too much work to get them in order, so you just kinda let them be as they are. You are in a maintenance mode, basically. And this is generally speaking completely okay, you don't have to do literally the most every day of every month. But it would be really good for you right now to "tighten the ship" so to speak.

There will be some really big changes coming into your future, that I interpret as immensely positive, but they are also quite drastic and you can only really take advantage of them if you are prepared for them beforehand. I think several areas of your life could benefit from a more organized approach, but that is probably a lot to change at once and it's my understanding that the area where this would benefit you the most is at work (though I'm not completely sure, so if you feel like this resonates differently you are probably right). Let me say an example. I don't know if THIS WILL happen but I feel like it's at least a realistic example of the kind of thing that MAY happen. Your boss is considering promoting someone at work to an extremely advantageous position, and they are thinking between you and another person, trying to decide. You would be the preferred candidate, and you WOULD be great for this position in theory, but your boss would like you to demonstrate that you have the organizational skills for such a leadership position as well. They dont tell you that though directly, they just kinda keep an eye on you, and you are just kinda coasting by at work at this moment, just straight up bing chilling. And to be honest, if you got the position today, you wouldn't be prepared for it either. So the other person gets promoted, and you will probably never even know that you were considered. But if you got your shit together a little, even if it's not perfect, your boss could see that you are trying and improving, and would eventually choose you.

Now, mind, I still want you to have a healthy relationship with your job situation, and get enough rest, and so on. What you need to do, is work smarter, not harder. Try to get your things in order, and make them more efficient. Change your routine today, and you will have plenty of time to get used to it and grow from it. The only thing that there is to it is that you gotta sow those seeds today so that you can enjoy the harvest at a later time. I don't think I can say anything more specific than that, but I will say one thing. The changes, though they will be drastic, what they will NOT be, is sudden. I think that the signs are gonna be there well beforehand, even if subtle. So keep your eyes peeled, pay attention to details, and especially to those things that people hint at but don't say. apparently erik says caelum is a child and shouldn't be shipped? but he also said that daemons emerge as grown adults and also that caelum was 24 so i guess i'm just confused as to how both of those things can be simultaneously true? are empathy daemons automatically children except regulus for some reason? if so then why have gavin joke about making innuendos at them?

i feel like there is so much waffling from him on this topic and it just creates the space for this incessant argument because both sides have quotes and information to draw from instead of him just consistently committing to one answer- going by timeline and the daemons spawn fully grown thing i'm personally assuming he's an adult but then! It is not an artist's place to dictate exactly how you interpret their art. What is the point in engaging with art if you're gonna have the artist spoonfeed you how you're supposed to feel about it, or how you're supposed to interpret it? What it means to the person viewing it is just as meaningful as what the artist intended, thats part of the joy of art. What happened to critical thinking? To thinking for yourself?

Also it is absolutely not their place to tell you how you can and cannot act in fandom spaces; Who you can and can't ship, what art you can and can't make, or what fics you can and can't write. This is our space, not theirs. I could not give a damn what he says, I'm posting transformative work on sites meant for fandoms. I'm not forcing anyone to read my fics. Whether they like it or not, the rules of fandom spaces also apply to the original creators.

There's zero point in all this arguing. There's different interpretations of this character because there's different ways to interpret everything the characters say. Some of them make more sense to me than others, but like youre free to interpret it however you want. No one, as far as i am aware, has written NSFW/ship of Caelum in which he's depicted as a child. I think it's weird to look at peoples' fanfictions in which they have written Caelum as an adult and decide he's a child in it instead, but like..... i guess it's in their power to do that??? There is not "wrong" versions of the egos!!! There are a million and one designs a for every ego depending on the blog, artist, writer etc. Every marvin looks like a wildly different character and people have their own headcannon personalities, genders, orientations and more for every ego. Some people have multiple aus and characters intertwined. So dont go telling anyone their version of the egos is incorrect or not accurate because these characters have been up for interpretation for a VERY long time so please remember that. If you dont like someones version of the egos or its not accurate to whatever cannon comes out, shut the fuck up and leave the one who created that version of said egos alone. All your ego designs are valid and creative and fantastic and dont drop them just for the cannon if you dont want to.

Ego shipping is fine! So far we have had no cannon confirmation to say that theyre siblings, the same person, or related in any way that would make ego shipping wrong. If that becomes the case, most people with either drop it or actively start making the egos their new OCs to continue shipping their personalities and designs. however, if that doesnt happen, dont bash people for shipping the egos. The sanders sides fandom and markiplier fandom get along just fine shipping characters played by the same guy so just be less judgy if you feel the need to tell people you dont like what they like. And if you really dont like it, its not that hard to just block an artist or ask them to tag their ship art and filter the tag. Its really not that deep so dont go sending anon hate to people for shipping the egos.

ive been calling c! beeduos relationship platonic because i thought that was what their cc’s said, and i thought they had said that they were uncomfortable with ppl shipping the characters. But ive seen a lot of posts that say their relationship is canonically romantic? and i absolutely do not want to come across as homophobic by watering down a mlm relationship to just friends because that happens so much in media so.

what is the canon state of their relationship / ur opinions on the platonic thibg

aw it’s totally fine, im flattered you asked me about this!

let me put it simply: it’s a whole mess, lol.

first im going to talk about what’s happened fandom-wide that caused differing opinions, and then i’ll explain my own opinion/interpretation. :]

(this got really fucking long im so sorry)

ranboo and tubbo initially proclaimed the relationship was romantic, specifically in argument with the wiki editors who had set it as platonic by default. (you can see this in the vod where they decide they’re canonically married— it’s very funny. chat tells them the marriage is already on the wiki, they check, tubbo is jokingly offended that it says platonic and asks if he needs to up the romance).

tubbo also makes jokes about adultry, which sort of implies the relationship is not necessarily a platonic one.

(theres definetly more in that stream alone but it’s been a long time since i watched it so i don’t remember a lot of it.)

the wiki, because of this, suffers from going back and forth on platonic and romantic, seemingly unsure where the joke ends and the canon begins, or if its canonically a joke! a mess, as you can already tell.

this gets more complicated as the marriage bit goes on: outsiders, such as phil and scott, both at one point say “platonic marriage”, which then ranboo and tubbo agree with. however, when chat asks them if they’re platonic, they say the opposite. so there is a lot of confusion there.

there’s also the difficulty of being able to tell streamers and characters apart. ranboo and tubbo both don’t like being shipped irl, and that’s their boundaries that shouldn’t be crossed. (they’re also minors, but tbh when they’re 18 in a year i will still be following their boundaries regardless of their legal age).

due to people not wanting to be accused of minor shipping, they started adding the platonic tone indicator to most of their drawings— basically a way of saying “no homo”. meanwhile, tubbo frequently on stream flirts with ranboo and makes quite a bit of nsfw comments towards him that are frankly hilarious.

this goes on for a while with nobody really sure what’s canon, but a lot of people assuming it’s probably platonic, until: the drama of the mods night. a few mods dmed all the wiki editors telling them ranboo wanted his canon character relationship officially set to platonic.

unfortunately for those mods; the very same day, a few hours later, ranboo on stream makes fun of puffy delivering him and tubbo “friendship flowers”. because, and i quote, “bruh. we’re literally married. this must be how the ancient greeks felt.”

in case you don’t know, the internet often jokes about how historians will call ancient greeks ‘very good friends’ when they are quite obviously gay. so in this context, ranboo is joking that people will call him and c!tubbo, who are married, “close friends”, when he doesn’t think they are.

basically, ranboo canonized romantic bee duo, the very same day the mods told everyone he’d wanted a platonic one.

chaos and drama immediately erupted everywhere. on tumblr, we were talking about how weird it was of his mods to do something like that without asking him first. we ALSO talked about how weird it was of them to assume that ranboo can’t make his own decisions, or assume teenagers cannot be in relationships without it being sexual. twitter did the same thing but in the opposite direction: called ranboo mods homophobic, or said they were mad ranboo felt pressured into making a romantic relationship canon ‘just so people could have mlm rep.’

i dont want to go into detail about the drama that happened that night because apparently official people follow me and i dont want to stir it up or have them come “clarify” things. im just saying what we talked about.

ranboo in typical ranboo fashion apologized quickly and seriously. he was deeply sorry for possibly offending anyone with how he’d portrayed his rp relationship with tubbo, and he also assured everyone the mod thing was just a miscommunication.

he said he would talk to tubbo and they’d decide once and for all whether it was platonic or romantic, and then announce so everyone would know.

it’s now been a few months and we've had no word from them on that development. we still have no clue.

now, here’s my opinion:

i want to take ranboos word for it that it was a miscommunication with his mods, but... we had it on good authority from people on the wiki team and people in the discord with the mods that (while it was happening) they were really going after the wiki admins, and also made some weird comments about it. that combined with the way ranboo seemingly had no clue (considering he canonized their romance that very same day).... it’s very. sus of the mods.

then there’s the canon we’ve got since then. although occasionally adults in the room have called it a “platonic marriage” and tubbo once (back when it first started) called it a “plankton tectonic” marriage, in roleplay it’s been... kind of not that. tubbo and ranboo make nsfw jokes about each other in character, and their characters also share a master bedroom and bed in the mansion. there's also the way c!tommy really thinks it’s a romance between them as well, and they agree with and play off that— for instance confirming that they “fell in love” when he asked, or ranboo confirming that they “make out on occasion”.

people will still put platonic on their art and posts, imo, because they’re worried about breaking ranboo and tubbo’s irl boundaries by looking like they ship them. or even just being accused of shipping real life minors. and that’s a valid fear to have.

the thing is though: c!bee duo are not cc!bee duo. they’re roleplay characters. cc!bee duo are not okay with being shipped, but they made their characters get canonically married, and call each other “husbands”. so it’s okay to write the word “husband” in your comic without adding “platonic” to it, i promise.

telling the ccs that their characters have to be platonic is... weird. it comes off as not only babying them, but also as saying teens can’t date without it being gross. which isn’t true.

(this is why seeing people overuse “platonic husband” so much bothers me. like, they ARE husbands. you can just say it. what are you trying to hide...?)

do i think they’re canonically romantic? ehh, its likely. it’s still okay to interpret them as platonic, because again, it’s hard to tell where jokes end and roleplay begins. like, maybe it’s jokes in the rp too, and c!bee duo are just friends. friends can and should be allowed to make jokes like that with each other! aro & ace marriages exist!

or, maybe it’s actually part of the rp, and they’re very much romantic. we don’t know!

some people say they could be a qpr (queerplatonic romance), which i could see. (a qpr is a relationship that fluctuates between, or can’t quite be sorted into, “romantic” and “platonic”. people in a qpr can do romantic things while having platonic feelings for each other). in my opinion this is a very valid interpretation as well!

are c!bee duo romantic?

its likely, but you can still interpret them however you like!

should i put /p on bee duo content?

ehhh? i find it annoying when it’s overused (as do others), but if you’re worried you can. its up to preference. putting it too much is weird though

no. you’re not the one saying it so you can’t decide the tone tags for that. imagine you said something to your friend and a random stranger came up and was like “haha but that was /p right...?”

can i ship c!bee duo?

mmm. i’m not sure on this one. they are canonically married and very flirtatious, but the ccs don’t like being shipped and they’re close enough to being the ccs that actively shipping might be against boundaries.

can i treat c!bee duo as romantic?

yes. literally just don’t be weird about it. it’s not that hard! you can understand that two characters are husbands without making it weird

here’s the most important thing: boundaries. cc bee duo still haven’t told us what their preferences and canon is about this whole thing.

right now, i am assuming based on what they already show us they’re comfortable with, but! the second they give us any more info! all these opinions will change!

i am only going off what they do. i would never want to cross boundaries at all. i just wish they would make theirs a little more clear.

ok i want to talk about billford for a second. there’s something to be said about it.

for the record NO i don’t ship it. but i do think i’d be missing out on crucial characterization if i didn’t bring this up, that in canon, it looks like ford has somewhat of a crush on bill by the way he talks about him in his journal and the memorabilia he collects (until he learns he was used to build a portal). crushes don’t have to be sexual NOR romantic in nature of course, they can be of a platonic type. wanting to get to know someone really deeply or spend a lot of time with them. ford obviously smitten with this knowledgeable omniscient dream creature. to ford bill felt more than just “a friend” but the feeling of was, of course, not mutual. bill played along and made him feel special so he could stick around to build that portal for him—the one he’s tried with like countless people throughout history. however i do think bill was surprised by ford’s competence which made him stick out more than the others to great surprise

i think this dynamic is interesting, but because it is unhealthy i don’t like saying i ship it. i don’t think this is a good relationship and almost all the content is not what i’m looking for when i want to see these two interacting. i don’t want to see them make out. i want to see how ford, for how smart he is, got so carried away by having his ego stroked by a little guy. i want to put him in a lab and study him. he literally just met this triangle by reciting transciptions from caveman art that told him not to read it aloud and somehow goes all in with his coins on bill and trusts him with his entire being despite just meeting him and the warnings written in the cave. and he is played like a fucking Sucker. i want to see what bill thinks from his point of view and what he did to keep milking the hell out of ford’s time, resources, and trust.

but i’m just. not a fan of how much emphasis is put on a sexual interpretation of the relationship in the fandom or the fact that the abusive aspects are brushed aside or romanticized which is why i don’t want to say “i’m a fan of this ship”.

you know how ao3 has “X / Y” to mean ship and “X & Y” to mean gen character relationship? i find the dynamic fascinating in the sense of the latter. i did see that ford wanted intimacy with bill because of his little fanboy crush but i dont believe it was literally sexual or romantic intimacy, it was psychological intimacy. bill isn’t a stone wall when it comes to this type of mental intimacy (in fact he loves pushing people’s psychological boundaries and making them uncomfortable a la eric andre) but he is deceptive of his true motives. as someone with a special interest in psychology it’s a fascinating dynamic to watch unfold from a detached perspective.

it feels like that episode of pretty good by jon bois where he talks about how he watches people playing poker because “it’s like watching someone else’s nightmare”. it’s a car crash waiting to happen watching this smart idiot betting it all in (his trust and psychological intimacy) and losing his sanity to a little triangle.

I just... dont see it? It's honestly neither appealing nor interesting to me. It mostly boils down to how I can absolutely NOT see it happening if Izuna still dies as he does in canon. Additionally I dislike/disagree with most of the common tropes and the characterizations often present in this ship’s content—especially the characterizations of Tobirama, Hashirama, and Izuna IF he's alive.

This is my personal opinion based on my own, subjective interpretation of canon—people can ship whatever they want however they want it, I'm just not going to consume any of that content. And yes, I'm broadly generalising here and there are probably amazing fics and art which don't do any of the things I dislike, but... eh. Why bother hunting for those when I'm really not the slightest bit interested in the ship. I'd rather spend that time creating and enjoying content I actually like and want, you know?

AkuRoku Defense pt 2

Axel and Roxas’s ship has had one of the most bizarre fandom journey’s i have ever come to witness. It has gone from being one of the most popular ships maybe ever, to being dead cancelled over a supposed age gap and I find that completely unfair, especially when it speaks to so many innocent people who emotionally depend on the ship, (yes innocent includes the spicy people because art literally is not a crime). So its time to defend it.

Brief Review on Nobodies vs Aging

First of all, l already explained in part 1 what the Nobodies Don’t Age thing means but I’ll go over it again briefly, since it can be confusing, though also many people seem to demand their hands be held rather than use their imaginations to understand. Even so, here’s the short version just for a review:

-A person in KH is made of a heart, body, and soul.

-The body reflects the heart in KH. (See: replica bodies taking on the appearance of the heart that’s inside them). 

-A nobody lacks a heart, making them just a body and soul. They’re advanced zombies of sorts.

Nobodies do not age because they have no heart for the body to reflect. This is why they won’t change until they form one. Change includes age

-Ergo, you can imagine any age you like for Axel to be nobodied, cuz he was frozen at that age and did not change for 10 years. Not until he met Roxas. 

We’ll come back to this again later.

Axel Loves Roxas Canonically

Second of all, Axel loves Roxas and you are allowed to interpret that as platonic, familial, or romantic, I don’t care as long as you’re not forcing that idea on others like the ship police. That said, people are allowed to explore how romantic this love potentially is. 

And what you might like to know is that the canon is even open to this. Axel’s love for Roxas is canonically expressed, and if you would like, you can even interpret that love as romantic. See below:

We are going to look at the japanese translation because AS ALWAYS good old SENA is here for the straights and erases the gay, like clockwork. 

In English, Axel says this:

Axel: I wanted to see Roxas. He...was the only one I liked... He made me feel...like I had a heart. It's kind of...funny... You make me feel...the same...

Axel’s line here in Japanese:

Axel: I wanted to see Roxas... I loved him. Being with him... it made me feel like I had a heart. I feel it from you, too... the same kind of....

You may notice that as romantic as the line “he made me feel like I had a heart” sounds, the original can be read as wAY gooier, specifically cuz of this word:

好き: "suki"

Now here’s the thing. Japanese is a pretty vague language which is why context is so important for these things, as well as what you say, and what you don’t say. 

“Suki” is a very key word here because it is often used in romantic confession scenes.

(I have no idea what this panel is from, I apologize lol) 

It CAN mean something casual, like “I love video games”, but considering Axel is saying this with his dying breath, I don’t think we should be treating it as some hyperbole. He is referring to a person and it is meaningful. However. It is still a word with plausible deniability. Japanese has several words for love, “ai” for example being one of the most inarguable means of referring to romantic love. So choosing “suki” still leaves room for the homophobes to disregard it as something not romantic. Which makes it objectively inconclusive. Here is the thing though… they specifically chose that word, suki, a word which IS so often used in a romantic context in many anime and manga. 

They also chose to use that word rather than something objectively platonic. Which means you also cannot conclude Axel did NOT mean it romantically. Given his devotion to Roxas, and the fact that they chose this word of all words for him to say… I’m personally going to assume it’s romantic. You are free not to interpret it that way. But I am because I am considering the fact that they did not choose something strictly platonic. 

(My translator friend actually freaked out when I showed her this, she’s translated and seen enough confession scenes to know what connotations that particular word comes with lol). 

If you’ve read my queer coding doc, you may recall I also go over how this is one of the most important tricks with queer coding. You write something that CAN be viewed as queer but with plausible deniability for straight people to ignore it. It’s a means of protecting oneself and the text from homophobic oppression. It is a legitimate practice. So even though it can be denied as a queer text, it can also very very well be viewed as a definite queer text. We are choosing to queer it here. It is not as explicit as it could be, but it is still very bold, suggestive coding considering the homophobic world we live in, and especially with KH2 being released in 2004. 

“But Age Gap!” (ughhhhh)

We’re back to this cuz I also finally have the Japanese version of that infamous page in the Day’s novel to look at.  

I hope you’ll forgive me if I get a little bit salty but I don’t like to repeat myself lol so I’m gonna try to keep this section short and to the point.

In this interview with Nomura, he expresses that nobodies do not age, and they exist as they were at the time of becoming a nobody. He then suggests Xemnas seems 30 ish.

Now I truly do not care to hold your hand through the process of thinking creatively because you should be using your own imagination, if you have one, to think critically and creatively about what this idea means.

Kingdom Hearts is a FANTASY game. Nobodies are a FANTASY concept. They can break ALL the rules about real life that you want them to. But I will go ahead and explain this for you even though I’ve already done it many times, in this very document even and in other meta posts.

The body reflects the heart. Nobodies are frozen as they are from the moment they are “born”, which is to say the moment they are created. Glorified zombies. They aren’t going to age unless they form a heart. Why does Xemnas look 30? He has a heart! Or he was formed 10 years after TerraNort defected. You tell me. Why did Ienzo age? I dunno, you tell me! Either he formed a heart and didn’t know it, (he’s passionate about his work, he loves Ansem the Wise, any number of things could’ve made him form a new heart), or he was nobodied later in life. Axel is frozen at whatever age he was when he was nobodied, all the while Ienzo could’ve been nobodied 10 years later. It’s a fantasy, and these are fantasy rules. That scenario can happen. YOU decide. Until the canon tells us for sure, your imaginations can run wild with explanations. Even if the canon does tell us, you can still imagine whatever you want for your own headcanons. Freedom is amazing, it’s salty and sweet. 

Now let’s talk about that annoying page in the Days novel people keep shoving in my face.

This one right here. The official english translation is this:

That’s not the worst translation I’ve seen them put out there. But let’s look closer at the Japanese:

 Here, Axel says he thinks Roxas is about 10 years separate from himself, but things like age don't exist for nobodies.

Already that’s making a lot more sense to me for nobodies since we are told nobodies do not age. As such Axel speaking like he is 10 years older would feels almost contradictory when he has no heart and cannot change. 

This wording is important. Recall me saying that Japanese is very vague so all of the context matters. No one is denying that 10 years passed between Birth By Sleep and Axel meeting Roxas. However. Nobodies don’t age.

(please dont make me explain that a third time in this essay alone)

The Japanese and English both express that age does not apply to nobodies, (as discussed above^^^^) and the Japanese furthers this with its wording. They have 10 years of separation between Axel being nobodied, and Roxas existing.  

Axel saying in English that Roxas is simply 10 years younger than himself is rather misleading considering the ambiguity of the original. I can’t fault the translators too much for not understanding this nobody concept so well because it is obviously confusing. However, I do not think Axel was saying Roxas is literally, in real life human somebody terms, 10 literal physical years younger than him. He is expressing that he became a nobody 10 years ago whereas this guy became a nobody very recently, and it shows with how little he can even function right now. A zombie who has been wandering around with no heart for 10 years meets a fresh zombie wandering around with no heart for 1 day. 

I know antis are gonna use it against us no matter what, but at least know that akuroku is not inherently pedophilia nor is it inherently an adult/minor ship.

In many of our headcanons, Axel was frozen at age 18 or 19, with Roxas being 16. Absolutely no one is required to view them with a big age gap because imagination is free and you literally have no right to police it, but also because the canon expresses these nobodies as beings outside of the realm of age. They do not operate under real life rules or somebody rules. Think of Steven Universe where Rose was thousands of years old but only “grew up” as a person when she fell in love with Greg, a human in his 20s-30s who asked her to consider other people’s feelings. Consider the mind of a nobody as a state of Neverland. You aren’t gonna age unless you step out of it and change. Mature. Isn’t it sad that Axel did not feel like he had a heart until Roxas? No wonder people ship it!

Coding is Obvious

Finally I wanna conclude on a simple thought. This interview right here? I’d be curious what the original Japanese actually says lol but the english translation of it says that romantic akuroku was not Nomura’s intent. 

Here’s the thing though. If you know anything about queer coding, you know that using romantic coding between 2 male characters is signaling something. It is not something you should ignore. It would not be there if the characters were meant to be viewed as objectively straight. And for something “unintentional”... there sure is a lot of coding at work here.
