☆ it girl journalling tips ☆ part 1

TIPS TO REMAIN CONSISTENT AND GET MAXIMUM BENEFIT:

TIP 1: dont follow the “pretty journalling trends" ... unless you know that it’s gonna benefit you in some way and you’ll actually stay consistent.

You know the ones im talking about. The ones with the aesthetically pleasing habit trackers and sleep trackers and water trackers. Those ones. Before you do them, save yourself the time and energy and firstly ask yourself:

If it’s a habit tracker you want: am i looking to develop new good habits? - Is there another easier and prettier way i can do this?(maybe online) - Will i stick with this format everyday? - Am i ready to draw this whole thing out?(except if you’re printing it or its already there, then skip that)

If it’s a water tracker you want: do i need to hydrate myself more and drink more water? - Is there an easier way i can do this? Etc etc.

If it’s a sleep tracker you want: do I need to/ want to fix my sleep schedule? - Do i need to check the best way i can sleep so i have a lot of energy the next day? Etc etc.

And so on. Me personally for example, I’ve decided to start a sleep tracker to figure out a) what time is best for me to sleep, b) what time is best for me to wake up, and c) how many hours of sleep should i get so i can get more energy the next day. This is all so that i wake up feeling less tired and more energised. (Sure you can take tests/ quizzes online on this, but experimentation is the best and also the most funnest.)

TIP 2: have a good and solid WHY

if you're just doing it for the aesthetics, sure it will be fun at first but then the hype will die down and you'll get bored and just quit. thats why its important to journal about something that actually means something to you. don't force yourself to follow what someone else is doing because something that they are trying to achieve and understand about themselves may not be the same as you.

if you know that you have quite a negative mindset, then everyday make the habit of writing down 3 things that happened that you're grateful for in your day!

if you want to get to know yourself better on a deeper level, search up shadow questions and write them out to answer in your journal!

TIP 3: romanticise it!

omg there is NO better way to get the full main character, it girl feel than romanticising it!! it can feel so good and sometimes literally gives me this tingly sensation!!! here are some tips to romanticise it:

light candles

play some music

soft, ambient, cozy lighting

hot chocolate / coffee

late nights

snacks / cookies

cute stationary- pens, notebook

hoodies

getting cozy (can be in bed!)

Aetherangel is my second transformers oc and my favorite... i made her first for Transformers One 2024, but i have also written other versions of her for Transformers Prime and Transformers Animated

AETHERANGEL

she/her (they/them is fine sometimes)

she is transfem and bisexual (IM MAKING THE ROBOTS WOKE!!!!!!!!!!)

on earth, she would be an A10 Warthog, but generally she's a flying bot.

Aetherangel is a strong warrior. Don't let her intimidating appearance trick you into thinking she isn't soft-hearted however. She's often very anxious, bittersweet, and poetic - but very tough bold when needs be. At least, until it comes to anyone she's loved in some way.

Her main story in different continuities usually consists of her being betrayed greatly, and forgotten.

She is often paired with my partner's oc Malachite, whos in a couple of the images below (heres a cute one! i sure hope nothing horrifying happens between these two!)

her pairing with Malachite plays a big part in her downfalls too.

The extreme pain she goes through, especially through betrayal, changes her view on others and the world quickly. She becomes pretty cynical, or her mind bends so much from what she's gone tthrough. It depends on the continuity.

(I will now explain her a bit in the continuities of TFONE, TFP, and TFA. sorry if these are worded weird or are strange, im not the best when trying to type english for some reason sometimes, and i havent gotten a lot of SOLID stuff down so these might be loose and hole-y in some spots aouuguhh)

Transformers One 2024 Aetherangel (this one is pretty lengthy! this is the first ever version i made of her. tfp and tfa wont be as crazy however)

In tfone, Aetherangel was a warrior. She was one of the strongest of Iacon. After the fall of the primes and Sentinel's upbringing, she changed her path and became an artist. She would use art to express her hard-to-explain emotions regarding her identity and place on cybertron, and to express her love for who inspired her, Malachite. (I will now explain a little on my bf's oc malachite, since it's important to know)

Malachite was a popular icon of iacon. He started off small, with the name of Oxidize, and he was only a humble broadcaster. He then changed his name, got a new shiny paint job, and rebranded himself. He created music for the masses, and a label for other bots to create music too. But Sentinel Prime wasn't too fond of Malachite's rise to popularity. He felt like Malachite overshadowed him. After Sentinel Prime drops by for a little "visit" (nearly killing the mf bc of his insane pride), Malachite - who is a great smooth talker - convinces Sentinel Prime on how he could help spice up how Iacon views him. To make Sentinel Prime truly an 'icon of iacon'. After some charming, Sentinel Prime makes Malachite his Royal Advisor. (a lot of this is to my memory sorry if i got it a little muddy kev🥀)

Back to Aetherangel; she was a little off-put by Malachite's sudden new place as Royal Advisor, but still very proud of him. She continued to create art and music, while Malachite began to spend less and less time with her. A lot of her songs would be hidden away from others, as most of them overtime became only stress relievers and yearning.

Overtime, as Sentinel Prime's Royal Advisor, Malachite saw what was really up, and his true colors began to show more. Corruption. And they were only shoved a little more by Sentinel's servos.

Aetherangel has a split-spark (sibling) named Razorvoid (i posted about them once but not many ppl cared lol) who cares about her a lot, and can put a big influence on her. Razorvoid is very protective of his sister, sometimes too protective because of his paranoia, which turns into rebellion after Sentinel Prime had rule over Iacon for a while. Razor was okay with Mala before, but began to grow some disdain for him after he had been the royal advisor for a while. However, Aetherangel still had a place for Mala in her heart. But she didn't care much for Sentinel Prime, much like her brother. Her brother wasn't the maturest all the time, or could be a bit extreme. And the both of them found the concept of miners to be a little strange, at least, in if it was ethical. Aether already carried these thought processes, but Razor's rebelliousness amplified them a little. Razor would often start fights with guards, or sneak things in for miners after a while. He had a chance to talk to a few when he would sneak, and got to know they're were basically no different at all from him and other cyberteonians, other than the missing cogs. Razor became a friend to many miners. Aether would sometimes help Razor with these exchanhes too, and would even help him sneak into some pretty important places to steal (the second part more because she felt like she didnt have a choice with her brother's crazy antics sometimes lol) These would escalate in Aether having to get involved in Razor's fights with Guards at some point, and this time, did not end well.

Sentinel grew a disliking to Razor and Aether very much so. They were shady. He became aware of Malachite's relationship to the two - ESPECIALLY with Aether - and had an idea on how to actually take care of them.

Sentinel felt Malachite had not yet proven his loyality to Malachite. He had not forgotten thst embarassing moment he first attacked Malachite when they met over his pride, and wasn't sure if he could trust Malachite because of their first impression. That Malachite - also being revealed to be good at manipulating people when he needed to save his spark - would turn against him anytime.

Razorvoid had gotten off pretty easily from the last fight, which was.. alarmingly strange to him. He chose to stay wary of his surroundings, but never thought too much about needing to be wary of Aether's in response to the consequences of last fight.

Sentinel used this incident and told Malachite all about how Aether mustve grown jealous, and how she might even threaten him. He bent a lot of the 'evidence' to make Aether seem way worse than she actually was. Malachite was perplexed by this. He felt he had to find Aether and confront her about her recent behavior, and ask if any of this was true. Upon meeting up, Aether grew irritated that Malachite only cared about the recent incident, and this seeming to be the only reason he had came to see her in a long time. She was upset, and wasn't afraid to show him that. Unfortunately, in Malachite's head, her anger seemed to make him think Sentinel Prime might have been right, especially after Aether did get a tiny bit physical when Malachite kept pushing and eventually questioned her on everything Sentinel said about her. Due to her impulse, Malachite only felt it was confirmed, but ran away.

Aether grew angrier and shared her frustration with Razorvoid. Malachite's ignorance fueled an outburst in Aether, which seemed new for her average behavior, but wasn't too surprising looking at how her recent activities and her emotions in regards to Malachite not seeing her could affect her behavior. She told Razor she would help steal and give more things to miners, to Razor's concern yet slight delight.

Afterward being the next day, Sentinel Prime had ordered for Aetherangel to be taken and brought to Sentinel's, and Malachite would have to be responsible for the next task. He needed Malachite to prove his loyalty, and he wanted this to be a warning to Razorvoid. This would be Razor's true punishment, and why they had let him off "easier" the last time.

Malachite was still scared of Sentinel Prime. He felt like he was walking on eggshells a little around him. He really didn't want to finish this task he was given in regards to what he would have to do to Aetherangel, but he felt like if he didn't, his head would be on display in Sentinel's room. He was broken by what he saw in Aether as of recent, but that broken feeling turned into anger. Overnight he could only remember other times he was with Aether, but his new perspective had warped all of his memories and convinced him that she was only an envious leech.

Aether was thrown at the ground, at Malachite's heels, and Malachite had lots to say to her. His anger spoke to her, and she - who was already struggling with her identity and recent regretful behavioral issues affecting her identity - was convinced by his rage warping all of the memories together. When he told her that she was a horrible bot, she had believed it. She wept on how she was selfish, but Malachite couldn't falsely agree more, sadly.

Sentinel Prime had tasked him to end Aetherangel's life.

Aetherangel had already accepted whatever fate would come her way, but Malachite had another plan. He was not ready to offline who he had seen as a Sparkmate, despite his anger. And instead of offlining her, he took her apart as much as he could, and took her cog. He made her mostly unrecognizable, and sent her off to the mines, while also making it seem like he had killed her in Sentinel Prime's optics.

Aether had been damaged so badly, that her memory had been lost. She woke up in a cave, a few bots surrounding her in horror, and the cogless bot Ratchet tending to her open wounds of where many of her features had been torn off. She was renamed as AA-0, was referred to by others with masculine or neutral pronouns and terms. Her memory erasure made her forget anything about her previous identity, so she didn't mind it too much. Of course, she still felt masculinity regarding her was strange, but she never thought about it too much since she felt like she didn't have time to as a miner. AA-0 couldn't really get along with others, as she felt very distant and out of place even more so. However, Arcee and Jazz were a couple bots who would stick with her anyway, as they did not want her to feel alone.

Meanwhile, after Malachite's deed was done, he was the one to tell Razorvoid that Aetherangel had been recently apart of "an accident", and had gone offline. Razorvoid was deeply distraught, but didn't believe a single word Malachite would say. He KNEW he had to be apart of this. He KNEW this had to be a warning. And he felt horrible. He felt guilty. He wanted to only protect his sister, but his impulsiveness only dragged her farther down than him. Ravorvoid had had enough of Iacon, and made a journey to the surface. After hiding away, the High Guard had found Razorvoid, taking him as a spy at first, but then letting him join.

Transformers Prime Aetherangel

in TFP, aetherangel was a great warrior for the autobots after the war on cybertron broke out. her sibling Razorvoid had been taken prisoner and was damaged severely, and Malachite had been taken as prisoner, but was forced by Megatron to serve him in short. Megatron wanted Malachite on his side for his incredible strength, but also because not only was he very good at manipulating others, but Malachite was also a suck up himself. Megatron used his very old relationship with Aether against him in proving that he would be a great asset to the decepticons, and would be loyal to Megatron no matter what.

Aetherangel was shocked to see Malachite on the active battlefield, and shocked to be so easily put on her knees all over his betrayal towards her. the long fight ended with Malachite isolating her, tricking her into thinking he had decided to spare her last second, and quickly stabbed right through her. He wanted it to be quick so she wouldn't have to suffer for his cowardice. He held her close, and in her last dying seconds, she tried to pry herself out of his arms at her tears, and went limp before she could escape his pitifulness. (my bf and i wrote this in full, ill have to ask him, but if anyone is interested let me know and ill ask him if its ok to share :D)

i havent gotten to plan this far ahead, but i plan on making her come back as a zombie at one point and it fucking with malachites head 💔

Transformers Animated Aetherangel (currently very much a WIP)

In TFA, Aetherangel and Malachite were both in Sentinel's bootcamp. (Malachite was still named Oxidize then, so ill call him that during this.) Aetherangel wanted to become an autobot elite guard. But that was all put in shambles when Longarm (Shockwave) was testing the waters to see how far he could go with his crimes against the Autobots and still stay a secret, and used Aetherangel as a scapegoat when he murdered Skyfire (skyfire, not the jetfire in tfa. this is theeee skyfire. we picked him bc hes kept out of media a lot so we thought it would make sense, also bc he has two names, so skyfire being one in tfa as well would fit if that makes sense.)

being framed for murder and Oxidize turning on her, she was punished and they bent her horns down since they thought that was her main weapon for killing skyfire. She became a decepticon and grew cynical. she liked to make fun of her enemies and not take them serious by shutting them down when they would try to talk back to her, and she would make fun of them.

i plan at one point she would take out bee's voicebox (i feel like this would be an arc for like 2-4 episodes, maybe 3, and bee gets a fix eventually..) mostly because of what happened to waspinator being similar to her, and because she finds him very annoying.

And I surprise how can you draw 3 pieces everyday, that's so fast >o< I wish I can draw fast like that. I feel like drawing human like you draw now it's very hard (the anatomy is my weakness >^< your drawing is so good). I wonder how much time you spend in a day for drawing? Does your main job is being a fulltime artist?

Hey hey! 😊 First off, thank you so much for your kind words! 💖💖💖 It really means a lot to hear that my art brings some positivity to your feed ;w; That’s exactly what I aim for, so knowing it resonates with you makes me super happy! 🥹💕

As for drawing three pieces a day, phew, it definitely took me time to build up that speed! At first, I was way slower like my energy level is very low, but with consistently getting my mind into the work mode, I found ways to streamline my process. Over time, I got better at simplifying certain details, trusting my instincts, and letting go of perfectionism when it wasn’t needed. Some days, I can knock out art fast, and other days, I take my time like if i have a commission so dont stress about speed! It naturally improves as you keep drawing fr. ✨

But I totally get you on anatomy being a challenge! It’s honestly one of those never-ending learning curves for me, and I still study and refine my approach even tho my proportions are wayyy off and make no sense. The best trick I’ve found is focusing on flow rather than stiff details, if it feels good to me then I will go ahead with it, I know ill never be 100% all the time but I do fin that gesture drawing helps a ton 💖

As for time spent drawing daily, ehh it varies, but I’d say anywhere from several hours to the whole day depending on what I’m working on. Some pieces come together quickly like within an hour (When im livestreaming my work on youtube), while others take longer. I’m always juggling that balance really

And yes, at this point, I do consider myself a full-time artist! It’s a mix of art commissions, social media content things, and other projects like the Tato TTRPG and rpg maker game that keep me going. It’s a lot of work, but I love it, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything! That said, it’s totally okay to take things at your own pace whether you’re full-time or just making art for fun, what matters most is that you enjoy the process. its a thing im still learning 💕

Hey- Thought I'd jump on the last Anon's train cause I like learning details of designs too.

What are your favorite parts of each characters design? and what part of drawing them all frustrated you the most?

Oh this is a good question!!!

For Bendy, I hate HATE drawing his face. Which is like his most important feature but I find it off putting that he doesn’t have a nose(it’s a bigger issue when I have to do a side profile) so most of the time you’ll see me draw two tiny lines to signal a nose. But aside from that I really love drawing his outfit cause it really gives off mechanic vibes and if u pay close attention his outfit is the same color as Boris’s bandana.

For Boris, I get so frustrated drawing his goggles because of the curls so I don’t know how to make it look natural. I’m so glad I don’t do speed paints because you’ll see me redraw it constantly. (I only kept the goggles because just like the bandana n bendy’s outfit, the goggles also have the others color on it)But just as I have drawing the goggle due to his curly hair, I love drawing his curly hair. It’s such a mess, and I just like doing random swoops.

For cuphead, I HATE DRAWING THEIR HEADS WHY DOES NO ONE TALK ABOUT HOW HARD IT IS TO DRAW THEIR HEADS WITHOUT MAKING IT LOOK WEIRD! (This goes for Mugman too) ITS SO DIFFICULT. But the plus side I love drawing his stupid silly hair. Additionally I like the matching suit he has with Mugman as it symbolize them being twins while also hinting to his connection with the devil lol

For Mugman, I also hate drawing his head, but I find his crack on his face hard to draw. Mostly because I keep forgetting to draw it n I have to make it consistent which it frustrates me to keep drawing. I do like drawing his suit, but I mainly like scarf. I like scarfs a lot, and they should be added to more character designs. (Also it has symbolic meaning in the story as the scarf is a gift from someone who’ll come up later in the story)

For Felix, I HATE HIS DUMB STUPID HAT SM. I DONT KNOW HOW TO DRAW HATS N ESPECIALLY FOR THEIR PERSPECTIVES. RAHHHH I WISH IT COULD DIE, I’m keeping it tho cause it’s cute. But what I love from his design his flesh teeth. (Idk the proper term) I just find it the cutest thing ever, and I’m never getting rid of it of it.

again they,,, got it from someone HAHA though honestly i think it tracks. kids can be straightforwardly brutal in their language, especially when they don't really have biases or cares for who they are speaking to. as crazy as this instance looks (LMFAO) i think this fits well with the context of the straightforwardness of children and considering the person who they look up to at the estate. i think it was good for lyra to meet a human child her age who can speak straightforwardly and not skirt past things, if that makes sense? i hope it does!

AND THE DEMON KING TRANSFORMATION i already talked abt it above but i wanna point out this blue system box here

a power outside of the system?!?? what does this mean for the protagonist of the new prequel bk_moon is writing?? is the weather forecasting included in this???

my first assumption right now is that the demon king power is just an in-world power system while everything else (ie the weather forecasting) is external, blue-textbox system. maybe? so lloyd got the demon king power which comes with skills separate from the ones that the system can provide? that would explain why there's no indication of lloyd trying to use the weather forecasting, he probably can't use it,,,? except i dont know why artanis can use it in that case. most likely i am overthinking it LMFAO

semi-related, i am a little confused as to why artanis did this? i guess she really, really trusted him w this power? or maybe her weather forecasting noted that this would be something good to do i have no idea,,, it Does feel a bit sudden i won't lie, i'm not sure how earned this is

also javier and everyone else not reacting that much to the demon king status. SENT ME HAHA "... nothing's changed." LOL

also loved the moment where the two of them were bein serious for a sec,,, they've got a job to do they've got people to protect. lloyd will stop fate and javier will be right besides him...

i think showing them at emily's wedding really cements how much they really, REALLY need to fight fate now. the novel events happening is very very bad, but it feels like now that so many people, emily especially, have found THIS much happiness in their lives,,, failing to stop fate will hit even harder. i really like the analogy of a taut bow that the dragon king used when he first described it, bc it's really REALLY showing how much the repercussions will hit if they fail. im praying they succeed,,, please,,, i need a happy ending or i will curl up and turn into an actual shrimp irl.

and now the demons have to build the pantara railroad,,, artanis's expression omfg

she really didn't,,, know,,, she trusted him that much,,,, girl,,,

but it's ok. it'll be a net positive trust! that's how lloyd does things!!! and then soon we'll get the happy ending where we can get the eye of summer and beat up fate and then silly fun times YAYY <- probably copium

some other thoughts of note that i had with a dear mutual (hi sprout :3) about this ep:

we were talking about how the plot seems to be paced right now, and honestly i'm of the opinion that while yes its Technically moving, the way they're ending each ep in this current arc makes it feel like it's going both very slow and very fast, that is to say it feels like it's not moving at all

bc they're like "okay NOW we're gonna do the build project" and it's been like that for several episodes now. pieces are moving but we're going past the point of it all too fast (especially the whole demon king thing. mentioned this before but while cool, doesn't feel as earned simply bc we're both tackling each point and yet blowing past all the points, so it's a lot less satisfying than it should be (despite how awesome it is,,, oh lloyd you give me so much internal conflict </3))

it does make me a lil worried that they're gonna timeskip the hell out of the pantara railroad build. however this episode, although it still has a weird pacing/movement issue, does feel a little bit better than the last two imo, so i have hope that it'll turn out okay, that it'll start heading up! i'm actually really excited to see where they go with this and i'm sure that even if the pacing is still goofy i'll have some kind of fun with it (seriously the panels this ep were wonderful HAHA)

anyway that's all for this week! extremely excited for the next ep,,, ill see yall then,,, lets go pantara railroad arc!!!

unlike my other designs where i let everyone have individual colors/palettes, i tried to keep colors more consistent across these designs! the oxventurers guild has the fantasy element and theyre all very different, so the wide mishmash of colors are fine, and the hobby horses all have a lot of dark colors so that keeps them looking consistent together. but for these guys, i wanted a more consistent feel, so i tried my best to reuse colors between each design (especially between delacy and nate ^-^)

silas - ough. my boy. i wanted him to be broad with a strong build, and i hope i pulled that off :D i had so much trouble with his hat that i almost just didnt give him one, but eventually i decided it was better to just. give up and rock with it, even if he looks a bit like a mountie hbjgfjhd and he is wearing cowboy boots, theyre just tucked into his pants because he doesnt feel the need to flash them (looking at delacy, lol). he has spurs on his boots, even though he doesnt ride horses, because he likes the way they jangle <3

garnet - people really liked it when i gave garnet dark roots, so i have decided to always give her dark roots. i like how it looks hehehe and i also like to give her freckles!!! i think theyre cute!!! for the vest, i struggled for a while trying to capture the vibe of jane's vest, because its so so strange and specific in a way that makes it impossible for me to picture garnet without it. i'm pretty happy with where i landed with it, especially the pattern, since i've never tried to make a pattern like that before :3 i dont know why ive been loving patterns so much lately LOL but i will keep riding this wave and regret it later when drawing the designs again

edie - definitely the furthest departure from canon outfits, though still in the right wheelhouse. i just don't like drawing multiple layers of ruffled skirt. i didn't like how my sketches kept looking. i wanted to give her a skirt slit, especially after my friend reminded me about her thigh rifle holster. so today, i stared at a bunch of victorian ballgowns and party city costumes, and then completely redesigned her skirt before i lined these XD and i think it was worth it!! i love the layers and the way her rifle peeks out, and it meant i could show off more of her boots and give them a pretty design :]

delacy - my main thought going into drawing delacy was just. "i need to malnourish this boy" LMAO i refuse to believe that he is eating properly, i just know that he is not. otherwise, i mostly just stuck to the campaign art but scuffed up his clothes a bit. as implied on silas's notes, i very purposefully had his boots be Big. he's overcompensating a little bit :] also sorry i did not want to draw rooster so he just gets a generic handgun. i didnt feel like drawing complicated guns, and i wanted it to be a smaller handgun so that he could be poorly copying edie :') he has no trigger discipline but neither does edie so its fine

nate - that's just nate, baby!!! i think, canonically, he's meant to be a bit. emaciated. but i cant help but just picture him being a bigger guy, i think it fits his vibe better and its more fun for me to draw that way. i like having variety in body shapes, and garnet and delacy already have the rail thin thing down for this line-up. let my old man be fat !!! also. he has a weird nipple because he is transgender. heart emoji

unsure if you’ve been asked this before but what is your character designing process?

i have already answered in this post (you can go read it if you want), though it's more jrwi based, so i feel like i can answer again! i doubt I'll end up saying something new but hwhatever who cares dhhdhd

obviously this isn't math, so there's no specific scheme i follow every time, and each design is different and it all varies heavily.

in general, when i start working on a design i already have *some* sort of idea in mind. normally not for the entirety of it, but some bits and pieces here and there that help me characterize the design in my head! i try to get those on the canvas first. they're like key points, and i most likely wont change them.

(and if i don't have an idea, i don't start drawing. and instead scroll through my gallery or pinterest in search of inspiration)

let's take my Gem's recent design as an example! i knew i wanted her to be a squirrel, and i already had squirrel scar and cub designs to base it off. so the key points were big pointy ears, curvy tail, claws. i also knew i wanted her clothing to look regal and floral, and reflect her main base. this is an idea that i haven't fully visualized, but i kept it in mind and knew in which direction i had to move.

after that comes the point where i start making stuff up 👍👍 i enjoy thinking my designs through and making them make sense in my head and be practical. so the process consists of me asking myself questions and then answering them in a design. with occasional "oh wouldn't that be cool" thrown into it.

continuing with gem. she needed to have her clothes be suited for a tail, so her underskirt splits in three parts to make it easier. i still wanted the design to be recognizable as gem and have it resemble her skin; so i kept the white sleeves, the green skirt, the corset. i wanted to make her and scar's designs match, so i changed the corset to green with this long piece of cloth but decided to change the patterns on it. because the brown from the corset was gone, i removed it from her shoes as well and made them black instead, so brown wasn't part of the color pallett anymore. i will introduce pink into the design later, so getting rid of one of the colors wasn't that big of a deal. plus, brown makes her look more down to earth, whereas i want her to look elegant and rich, so its a win/win. i wanted to keep her antlers, but obviously she's not a deer anymore, so i turned them into a crown and made it black to match the shoes. etc etc. i can ramble for three more hours about this hdgshsh.

well, that's how the well thought designs work.

sometimes it's just "im gonna draw all the things i think are fun and cute until i can't think of any" and there's no rhyme or reason to it. that's why things like "doc as a unicorn", one-off series designs, random concepts, aus exist!

sometimes its a "i have no idea what to do with it, so im gonna merge all the layers together and just keep fiddling with it until i figure it out", and that's exactly what happens. if i feel stuck with a design, merging it together and working with both line and color helps a ton, because it helps me to see the design as a whole and i dont have to divide my process and think of which parts im gonna do in color and which in line! recent example is hypno's design. here it is when i didn't know how to make it interesting and the final version:

(funnily enough i still like the first concept, the fact that all the clothes is the same color is quite tasty. but i know that if i needed to draw this design in the future, i would struggle with keeping the clothing layers separated and shading and all that stuff.)

visually i don't think there's much difference between how i design things (?), but the process varies and in my head they're all on like, different tiers.

what were your Archie comics thoughts

ok wow i have no way to answer this succinctly and im gonna be honest, i am still reading through sonic universe because that was the actual series i read as a kid (AND NOT MAINLINE ARCHIE LMAOOOO) HOWEVER (im prefacing this with my thoughts are gonna be super scattered)

i think archie sonic is ultimately the biggest mixed bag on earth when it comes to like, everything. like, from art to writing to dialogue it is the ultimate mixed bag but i will say i do think that the first half of archie sonic is just like, outright bad.

the art is bad in the first half because like, ron lim draws sonic like he saw him once and has been drawing him from memory ever since, steven butler is really fucking weird when it comes to drawing the girls (why are they drawn like sexy human women?), and ken penders is ken penders. i like jon gray's artstyle overall but it also feels weird when archie sonic gets serious. like, it's fine for the slice of life and silly bits but it's just weird and out of place in the more serious moments and i wouldn't be surprised if this is why he was mostly just drawing off panels towards the end of archie's run. not to mention issue #113 on its own but that would require its own post entirely to talk about.

ALSO jeff axer overall is pretty decent. some of his art looks kinda wonky but he made rob look really cute in #111 so its ok. tracy yardley is also good (obviously) and i think he was the consistency archie needed. some of his art also looks kinda wonky but considering the guy drew like, what, 130 issues of archie sonic?, it was gonna happen every so often so whatever. occasional wonkiness is way better than constant wonkiness.

(evan stanley is also a godsend but thats a given no comments are necessary)

and honestly the writing is just like, boring? for the most part it's just boring and a total drag to read. like i know a lot of people like to riff on ken penders and his writing because he DOES suck but more critically he's just fucking boring which is even worse than just being a bad writer. i think when it comes to writing you're still succeeding if it's at least entertaining, but his stuff isn't even entertaining. all of the knuckles stuff he worked on is boring and nonsensical and essentially made my brain leave the room mid-issue multiple times. i did not care for knuckles' family drama at any point and penders failed to make it worth investing in at any point. idk i think the whole echidna society thing couldve been an interesting point but penders is just boring. and it was also kinda annoying how the knuckles plot stuff took up like, a solid 30 issues because after a certain point i was like, yall can we do a side story of literally any other character? can we have an amy moment? hello?

karl bollers is also boring but better than penders, but still boring. BUT ALSO ON THE KARL BOLLERS NOTE I HAAAAAAAAAATE THE ALIENS WHO SHOW UP TO FIX THE PLOT AND THEN LEAVE WHY DOES HE PULL THAT CARD LIKE FOUR FUCKING TIMES??? OH MY GOD. HELLO COULD WE NOT COME UP WITH A MORE REASONABLE WAY TO SOLVE SOME OF THESE PROBLEMS. I HATE THE BEM!!!!

and i know that ian flynn is kinda a hot button topic on twitter at least and like, overall i like his writing and he does a great job at making these characters way more engaging and interesting but he does do a handful of odd choices (my first thought is like, the whole king shadow bit in 25 years later. i dont think anyone knows how to write shadow LOL). but to me i think the craziest thing is that a lot of penders' characters only became interesting under flynn, eg lien-da and elias (on that note i did actually really like his character development and am lowkey devastated that the super genesis wave/lawsuit just shot all of that in the head because i was really invested in elias by the time the SGW happened) AND ESPECIALLY SCOURGE. also on the note of characters i loved shard it's such a shame they introduced him like 15 issues before the SGW.

anyways i also need to waste a paragraph talking about scourge because like. ok as a child i used to scroll some random sonic forums and oh my god i remember so much discussion about this guy so in my little kid brain i was like, ok this is a major character! AND THEN I READ THIS AS AN ADULT FINALLY AND HE JUST SHOWS UP A HANDFUL OF TIMES IN EARLY EARLY ARCHIE AND HAS LIKE ONE ARC THAT LASTED LIKE, 10-20 ISSUES? AND THEN IS NEVER SEEN AGAIN? that was crazy. also crazy how everything that made scourge scourge was done by patrick spaziante and ian flynn like, that's actually crazy i cannot believe ken penders parades him around like that was all him. that's insane. sorry the like development of this guy is insane i had the completely wrong idea of him as a child and it's fucking me up.

also on this note the character design in archie fucking sucks sometimes. there were multiple instances where fucking uuuhhhh rosemary prower showed up (esp towards the end of pre-super genesis wave) and i genuinely thought she was a member of the acorn family because they all just look the same. i had no idea antoine was a COYOTE??? until i looked it up bc i sent a screenshot to a friend and she was like wtf is he and i was like, i have no idea actually. not to mention All Of The Echidnas, which again is a penders issue lol. also why did archie just not know what tikal look like for like 3 issues? there was an issue where her design changed depending on the page and i thought i was going insane. what the hell was that about. where is the quality control in archie???

but yeah no if i can summarize my thoughts better: i think archie sonic kinda just sucks up until issue #160, like there is nothing actually worthwhile in the first half, and then gets better over time once they replace a lot of people, but then like right as it gets really good it gets hit by The Big Ken Penders Lawsuit And The Super Genesis Wave and all of that development and plot development just gets mostly wiped. i still enjoy the post-SGW stuff but it still really sucks that the original running plotline just gets shot in the foot like that alongside a lot of characters i warmed up to. and also while i did enjoy the second half of archie, i do think that IDW just does everything archie did but better sorry

and yes he did really try to come back to twitter, only to run at the first drop of critisism.

this is also the most major concern in my eyes because this is the exact behavior he exhibited on puppychan. he genuinely became obsessed with attention and praise and in my eyes hes doing it again. especially with how often he makes posts that hit every buzzword you can think of. i think you can, and should be proud of your racial identity your sexuality your gender and your disability, but theres a point where it very clearly becomes more about saying the right things, rather than doing them.

im not and never did say he never draws fat people but theres a noticeable difference between the body types he consistently draws (that gets him the most attention) and what he draws once or twice for attention than drops. im just saying he constantly mentions wanting to make characters with disabilities cellulite stretch marks, so on, but never actually develops these characters beyond 1-2 personality traits and horny posts. bc thats all he cares about. those are good examples but one of those characters belongs to a different person entirely. the cerberus's weight also seems to fluctuate, and once again i dont see any characters that are fat beyond whats "cute" "sexy" """acceptable""" chubby.

so now here goes the different plots and paths with the love interests. the way i playrd it was as they introduced it, which was ayn aklaid lars claerence. no cael route yet which rips me apart every night. the love interests seem to have consistent values throughout most universes despite all of their diferet upbringings which i find pretty cool considering schoollife and royaltylife are two completely drastic diferent things, and also i nejoy how mc is written with more character and an amazing design to match the rest of the beautifully drawn cast

on that topic the art is GORGEOUS. i have never seen such beautiful detailed art in a game before and i assure you it will not disappoijnt. the graphics and smoothness of the game are especially a great touch. what relevance does gladstone have in the comics? like. in terms of relations, plots, character in generalll because i dont know much in generals

Uhmmmmmm Well he's Donald's super lucky cousin that's his main thing. His 3 main consistent traits are 1. SUPER LUCKY probably most important one 2. Lazy cuz of said luck. this is both just because of the nature of living his whole life lucky but also in a lot of comics his luck will punish him for working so like. #sucks 3. Egotistical as fuck.

the intricacies of his personality kind of depends on who's writing him my favorite kind is when he's an asshole to donald but mostly just kind of clueless and unaware. his ass does not pay attention. esp when you can't really tell if he's purposely pushing Donald's buttons or was just made in a lab to specifically piss him off. I think it's both tbh.

^ one of my favorite examples. He's really funny. I mostly see this in Barks comics and stuff obviously inspired by him.

like it's just a really good phenomenon. He's mostly a character who is a hindrance to Donald but in which way depends on the plot. I've noticed a sort of cycle where it's like. Donald doesn't like Gladstone cuz Gladstone is an ass to him (understandable), but even if Gladstone is not actively trying to piss him off and just existing Donald will usually be mean to him (both cuz Gladstone is an ass but also his luck pisses him off soooo much), which causes Gladstone to be annoyed back and purposely piss him off. What if both of you stopped. freaks. this is just kind of Donald's nature tbh but this isn't about him.

^ that's just like. my favorite interpretation. there are so many versions of these characters cuz of all the different writers and I usually just take my favorite parts of the different version, but barks is def my fave just purely 1 version of gladstone wise. Rosa Gladstone is usually just an asshole for no reason and a really big one. It's kind of funny. I don't have it on me but there's one comic where he specifically walks ontop of Donald and uses his hat to clean his feet for no reason. what a freak.

you can tell it's Rosa Gladstone by that he looks kind of gay. sorry I didn't say that. Rosa's artstyle is really distinct tho lol, sometimes he has blonde hair it depends on who colored it (inking and coloring are done seperately. this is also why some comics have different versions of the same story with different colors)

not really related but talking abt Rosa he drew probably the most well known family tree. let's look at the family tree. waow.

uhm the 3rd most well known version of gladstone is topolino gladstone I don't really have much to say abt him. he's much nicer than other version usually. there's versions within topolino cuz topolino is like. a bigger thing. rather than just a single writer. I kind of got off track. there's also dt17 gladstone but. again I got off track.

uhmm.. the three main kind of stories gladstone appears in are. 1. Gladstone centric. 2. hinderance to Donald 3. just kind of there because the whole Duck family is there. then there's categories within those. also dd comics loveee reusing plots btw this is why they're so easily to put into catergorie

gladstone centric comics usually center around either him 1. getting sad about his luck cuz people exploit him or don't like him cuz of it 2. he either loses his luck or THINKS he loses his luck and freaks out because of it. these get kind of repetitive but I like how they explore his relationship to his luck 3. who up exploiting the golden goose. other characters love taking advantage of his luck and it always blows up in their face cuz his luck serves him and only him. lol. lmao.

hinderance to donald comics are uhm. big category and includes most of his apperances. stuff includes like 1. donald is in a competition and it turns out gladstone is also in it. 2. kind of the same as b4 but there's a lot of stories where it's specifically a raffle??? 3. donald and gladstone fight over daisy. I hate these comics. a lot. they're often just really misogynistic... if I can get away with it I try and read them as if Gladstone is just kind of odd and one of his only friends happen to be his cousin's girlfriend. usually makes the stories much better LOL. I don't really like. I hate the concept of them fighting over her and the way she's written where she's two timing them basically. but also sometimes they have good parts in them... like the one where it turns out gladstone has written really sappy love letters to daisy. I like when he's sappy it' something that comes up sometimes #SAPPYFUCK. 4. scrooge makes them compete in something usually a business cuz they're his inheritors but he doesn't want either of them to have his money cuz he thinks they'll waste it. often they both technically lose or gladstone wins but either he doesn't want to do whatever scrooge wants him to do afterwards or scrooge gets scared cuz gladstone's luck can outpass him in riches lol. gladstone publishing is named after one of these stories where scrooge gets scared and so gives him a comic publishing comic cuz "who can get rich through comics?" it's a little 4th wall break that I find funny.

in my most recent attempt at designing him(aug 2023) i changed several things... made his bangs longer for a more elegant look(which is actually closer to how it was before)... figured out how to draw his eyes + eyebrows better + more consistent(had been going back n forth btwn double/mono eyelids and thick/thin eyebrows... finally settled on sleepy double eyelids + thick brows) + i also changed the placement of his moles... (used to be right under his eye; changed to middle of cheek + another near the nose.. aka the txt soobin mole KFJKS I like how this new placement gives him a softer and gentle elegant look?? it's subtle but I like it a lot better... Oh also I made his sideburn locks shorter instead of long and curly and I like this change a lot too... idk it looks cuter to me KJFKS I gave him the long curly ones before bc i thought it'd look more unique but... i decided it's more important that I personally like it rather than just give traits to set him apart... he already looks plenty flashy w his eyes and colors anyway🤧

bonus: another pass from p recently (may 2023) where, unsatisfied and wondering how to fix his design, attempted straying further from prev attempts by testing a middle part (and also a mole near his mouth)... but I was actually getting colder and not warmer.... I don't like these but at least I tested it to know that I don't like it!! u can also see a test doodle of the spiky green guy (hyojun) here lol

This was back when I was just starting to figure the current ver of his chara/personality/role in the story... not fleshed out at all but i at least had a vague idea and this was when I decided he would be purple (instead of other palette ideas i had considered earlier like brown hair, orange coding...) But at this early stage I hadnt come up with the butterfly motif, or the purple/yellow palette (he was purple/magenta here) or darker skin... Tbh I consider this a "beta design" bc theres sm thing that were diff/not decided yet but it's technically the same chara ckdbf

was going to put this under a cut before i realized that everyone really is following me with the understanding that i'm going to be insane about jenny and giles sometimes-to-all-the-time. so.

breakfast at tiffany's is a song about a relationship that is on the precipice of dissolution with two people mutually recognizing that they do still have this one flickering thing in common. like --

that specific set of lyrics, man!!! thinking very specifically about jenny and giles directly after angelus, and how this big rift has sprung up directly from jenny's omissions and giles's outrage. how they have this consistent pattern of flinching back when one of them learns just a little too much about their partner, who is desperate to earn back their approval. also "now your eyes see through me" + giles literally refusing to look at jenny, hello.

but this song is really about, like, two fundamentally different people who do not lead compatible lives --

and yet they do still have these things in common that they are both holding onto so hard, and it's ambiguous as to whether that will be enough, but maybe the wanting is going to make it enough, yk? AND the (male) singer is the one persuading his girlfriend by saying "look, we can fit back together, see? we DO have things in common, see? don't give up on this and don't try to talk me out of it." very giles and jenny.

as for cruel to be kind, it's first important that u know i SPECIFICALLY chose the letters to cleo version because that's the one from 10 things i hate about you and sometimes i look at that and go "teenage giles/jenny would go like that."

but also just in general -- the entire song is about this idea of one lover floundering and struggling because the other person is jerking them around and tripping them up, & their honey asserting "no, this is how i love people. i'm being a dick to you BECAUSE i love you so much." which is. like. (gestures very pointedly to jenny lying about spilling coffee on giles's books. and taking him to monster trucks. and making fun of his clothes. and giggling whenever the kids make fun of him. the list goes on and on and on forever.) and it's actually soooo vital to me to adore that aspect of g/j, because so often i have seen in fandom people point to jenny being terrible and go "this is why calendiles doesn't work," OR they downplay her being terrible and go "calendiles is such an adorable twosome of cuteness and she's so supportive of him!!!" no. that woman bites and that man is repeatedly putting his hand in her mouth bc he wants her to draw blood.

I hate this but i'm getting this out of the way right now because i am NOT pointing out every time this happens, but i cannot believe how much unintentional deviantart type shit is in this?? Obviously it's all goofy cartoon gags so it's innocuous in intent but with so many in quick succession it feels like we're checking off boxes here. Kids, there's nothing more cool than drawing characters you like, but if an anonymous stranger ever randomly approaches you asking you to draw "what if ashley was giant haha", THAT'S NO GOOD

One other thing before i get into the individual stages that i thought was weird even back when they released the trailers for this, and i'm being a little fun police about this, is fhat i dont like the implication that this ancient civilization was colonized and converted into a tourist trap. I don't know how i would have fixed this but seeing it all laid out like that is like oh, this feels sucky.

WARIO: I like the callback to smooves in his stage and also that he gets both in and out of trouble by being a massive dick. The new voice......it's gonnna have to grow on me

MONA: Was a little disappointed that she was looking for mermaids instead of like barnacles or something but it's fine, mermaids can be for everyone. Joe is a fucking maniac but i respect him.

THE CRYGORS: really fucking cute. I love the pose mike does when you win. Also, the retroactive cave drawings of each of them are super funny

OK first of all, i know i said that i wasnt gonna bring this up again but i really really hate the orbulon weight gain thing. Do you know how many of that exact image i have been accosted by before this game was even announced just by googling his name?? TOO MANY. And now all of them are REAL. I feel betrayed.

now that that's out of the way. WHAT!!!!!

I don't know how to feel about the oinker being alive. I'm at a loss. On one hand, it upends everything we know about the oinker. On the other hand, i too have a soul bond with my car

I enjoyed being able to look inside orbulon's brain. I think that is all i ever wanted to do in a wario game.

One thing i think is highly consistent with his old characterization is that he WOULD instantly welcome people worshipping him like a god

THE ORBULON DAD REVEAL. It's like. See I thought we were going to meet him in person and it would be like a big lore thing but this is literally a joke. I'm ok with a joke. I'm ok with a gaff.

I really appreciated all of the slapstick. If orbulon doesn't eat shit on the concrete is it even worth it

This is in a later cutscene but i'm addressing it here, i simultaneously love and hate the fact that orbulon is depicted sleeping on a lounge chair slurping a drink because i literally drew him doing exactly that in the next camping episode. I'm very happy that we are all in agreement that that is a thing he can do. But mark my words i did it first so you gotta act surprised okay

OK one last thing but i really liked rhe chicken rap

ASHLEY: Just your standard garden variety ashley cutscene. Even on vacation red needs a vacation

THE REMIX BUS: this is my favorite cutscene in the game. Super funny, love the chaos as well as seeing each character fooling around and just hanging out, and mike's singing is melodious. This is the peace all true warriors strive for

CRICKET & MANTIS: I think i said "WHAT" out loud like five times during both of these cutscenes. WHAT!!!!!!!!!

KAT & ANA: Similarly, CRACTUS??!!!?! FROM WARIO LAND??!! I enjoy how many random throwbacks this game has. Also, nice to see the return of leo even though i didnt care about him that much. He's alright

JIMMY T: Beautiful as always. 10/10 no notes

Dribblenspitz: I think there is more raw emotion in dribble's "AW, NUTS" than the entire rest of the game. Love their cutscene

Also love that REPORTER KEN is BACK and i guess he wears contacts now good for him. Love the traditional dribblenspitz sci fi shooter boss

It truly has been so long since I've done any art and I've never been good at cute, so figuring out how to wrestle the infinite number of variations of an image that I want to draw with what I can actually put on paper and not be like "wow. That looks like shit" is really an experience.

I wish I could do simple and cute and it not look... God awful? But I can't seem to do that unless I'm directly referencing other art. I dont know how people do it. I'm like, "yes. These shapes make this thing. Simplify. Adjust ratios. Cute? No. Fuckin weird." But if I see someone else do basically that exact thing I'm like "adorable! Fantastic!" Its a frustrating place to be 😆

It is.... very on brand for me to want to be able to pull off cute but instead it feel extremely wrong when I try 😅

So then we end up with "not exactly on model but also not stylized enough"/uncanny valley PuppyM, and I have to find a PuppyM face that still reads as PuppyM but also doesn't make my skin crawl.

And Jiniret sneepy in a s'more. Again, the amalgamation of the uncountable variations of that image that I saw in my head and what I could actually get on paper. But the vibe is still off, so I have to play with the idea more.

Its like the "when you think of an apple, what do you think of?" Some people just the word, some adjectives describing apples, some the vague idea of an apple, some a specific clear image of their default apple. For me, its like every image you'd get in a search for "apple" all at once and holding onto a specific one is more difficult. But we all have seen a thousand Clipart images of apples, so if asked to draw a simple apple, you probably could. When drawing my own idea, the image is constantly shifting because I dont have a singular point of reference unless I'm literally drawing from a specific extant image (the full puppyM referenced from the official skzoo design and a screenshot, the faces from various photos).

Idk. People who have really stylized art that is their own just really impress me. Im sure it comes from practice, but Im lost on what to practice to get there and not just be mimicking what I see. Mimicking different styles and following references is its own skill, but so is being able to draw things in your own, consistent, cohesive way that communicates "Name Here drew this."
