Lil back story (bear in mind that I'm still actually watching the show and like 90 percent of the info I know is from fandom content so yeah)(and also spoilers for the story I plan to write for them):

So after splinter took the og 4 turtles Draxum somehow had enough materials to make one more turtle, which he does, but then a scientist from New York gets into his lab (like April does in the first episode) and steals a bunch of stuff, including the new turtle (poor Barry can't catch a break)

So the scientist takes the turtle back to the lab they work at, where they and their coworkers proceed to experiment on him as he grows up(from the ages of like 2-13) and at some point they give him a dictionary as enrichment. This ended up being a big mistake, because Antonio (they don't have a name yet, but imma call them by their name anyways) ends up using the dictionary to break open the case holding a fire axe (don't think to hard about how they managed to get close enough to do that, just roll with it lol), kills all the scientist, and escapes the lab.

When he gets out on the street it's golden hour, so he associates yellow with freedom and develops an affinity for the colour and they even finds a yellow pair of pants in an alley somewhere, but as he wanders he gets super dehydrated because ofc turtles need water (and also it's summer), and luckily when he starts to get ill it begins to pour. He then sees that the water is flowing into the sewers, so he goes down there and floats along the water and falls asleep (he's been wandering the streets for days without rest at this point).

Cut to the bois swimming and having fun (the bois are a little older here, Raph is 17, Leo n Don are 16, and Mikey is 15) and Raph is floating or something when a turtle bumps into him. He thinks it's his brother for a second, but then he sees their shell has spikes, and he does a head count, and there's suddenly 5 of them. So they kinda freak out about what to do with this random mutant passed out in the water wearing raggedy pants (with a fire axe tucked in them, but they don't know that). Eventually they take them home to make sure they're not dead and figure out who they are.

Antonio wakes up in a place he's never been, but he's surrounded by people who look vaguely like him and not like the scientists that basically tortured him all his life. So he doesn't immediately attack them and instead asks them questions. They eventually figure out that he's technically their brother, and eventually he really becomes a part of their family (and gets a fresh pair of pants, amongst other clothing items), but he has a butt load of trauma to work through first.

I'll make more content about their relationships with each member of the family and how they settle in later :)

(they also have a bit of a morality thing going on, since they see no problem in killing people that pose a threat to them)

If Rick changed Medusa for the Roman Myth in the TV show to be more 'sensitive', then he better do the same with calling out Calypso and what SHE did to Odysseus as well.

I still like PJO even though some of the changes Riordan did aren't great and make me sad but I feel like I can still enjoy it to a degree. But I am genuinely stumped and a bit disturbed by how he decided to make Calypso a sweet, sad, lonely "good person". Sure, she's sad and lonely but she is NOT sweet. To me, she reads off as cruel to Leo but even then, why tf does he write her as a good person or someone we should be rooting for?

Her only big myth is basically in the Odyssey where she imprisons and rapes Odysseus for 7 years. In mythology, others do that too but these immortals ALSO have other myths that define them. This one myth is practically her ONLY ONE!

It kind of freaks me out that Percy was near this woman as she's over a thousand years old and he's 14 at this point. Even if it WAS for a short amount of time. And pairing her with Leo? These kids should not be anywhere NEAR her!

Just binged watched the first 3 seasons of The Dragon Prince this weekend and I feel ALIVE

Sort of going off my last Seam post, if they really were carried everywhere before finally be left in the unused classroom.... would that play into their nihilism? I need to reread their dialogue again, but from what I remember they seem very uncaring towards the relationship between lightners and darkners (something we see other characters put a lot of emphasis on). If they were carried everywhere by someone who was attached to them, and in the end left in a classroom never to be used again, would that affect the way they feel about lightners?

Like I said I'll need to look at their dialogue again-- I certainly don't think they outright HATE lightners (otherwise their outlook would be much more like Spades King) but I feel like being around for so long and eventually having their use worn out has made them see things in a different light over the years

A reactionary comic about rereading a fic that I recently recommended that was way darker than I remembered, lol. I still love it for how they pretty much drive each other crazy, but that word choice and the consent issues... *cringes* At least there are valid warnings beforehand, and the first fic was pretty PG. okay i'm starting my reread liveblog with the literal cover of volume one

I think a lot about how the cover for volume one is Eiji holding a gun. Not only that, but a cropped version of it is shown as title page for every volume afterward.

Now, we could call this foreshadowing about Eiji protecting himself. But why would it be chosen as the title page for every volume if that were the case?

Look closely at the inscription on the gun. "Smith & Wesson" -- that's a Smith & Wesson Model 27 (or possibly a Model 19 but Ash uses both quite a bit). That's Ash's gun.

"Can I hold your gun?" // "... Sure thing."

Eiji asking for explicit consent. Ash giving himself to Eiji because Eiji was the only one who bothered to ask. And Eiji holding onto that piece of Ash through the whole series.

Another rambling thought, sort of stemming from the last thing, but what if Misfire gets so upset about Krok believing he's contacting his old squad, and pretending or implying that they're still alive, because he's harboring some sort of repressed grief over Thundersaur?

Thundersaur's dying request being to free Flyhigh before he ends up in jail for a dozen counts of "accidental" murder implies a certain kind of closeness or something felt towards Misfire. Yet, we don't really see anything returned from Misfire's side? Outside of the "-You're just jealous because you've never had someone look out for you." comment he makes in response to Spinister's disbelief towards him being the type to end up on someone's "dying wish list".

So, there's that. What can be gleaned from just that? Not much ig, at least nothing concrete. But taking into account Misfire's relationship with Grimlock, and Grimlock's later view of Connie, perhaps something can be assumed about his relationship with Thundersaur.

Whether I'm reading into it too much or not, there is a theme of a sometimes rough but well intended trickle down kindness when it comes to the Scavengers and their story.

A favor or act of kindness is shown to one, and they return it back or onto another, sometimes unintentionally. There's emphasized acts of selflessness with them, even though we know them to be quite selfish, which, really only emphasizes those moments more. If they were written as less of a joking break between the drama of the Lost Light cast, perhaps this theme would've played a deeper more defined role. But anyways, my subjective character favoritism aside.

The point here is Misfire cared for Grimlock, and in turn, Grimlock chooses to care for Connie because it's "his turn" to look after someone. One act of empathy leads to another. There's a time to decide when it's your turn.

So it's possible it goes further back because of that. Thundersaur cared for Misfire, then it was Misfire's "turn" and he cared for Grimlock, and Grimlock cared for Connie.

So why doesn't Misfire say or mention anything about Thundersaur? Grimlock cares a lot for Misfire, wouldn't Misfire have cared a lot for Thundersaur?

Well, in a way, there's a possible answer for that. Misfire is shown to be uncomfortable when faced with admitting he cares for people, or needs people. He's uncomfortable with vulnerability. He gets defensive and snappy when pressed about it, or he deflects it away from himself, which is somewhat of a stark change to his more casual dramatics and honest friendliness. So he doesn't like talking about how he feels, how he really feels.

But he also admits to Grimlock he understands missing the people you cared about. He admits this in connection to Grimlock recalling the last time he was with his "Dino-Buddies", just before Grimlock was taken to Garrus 9. Misfire "gets it", even though it's hard, he gets it.

With all that possibly pointless evidence, we can guess that yeah, Misfire did care for Thundersaur. It's just that he, like the rest of the Scavengers, has his own repressed and poorly managed issues relating to his past and his own negative emotions.

Also, the death thing. He's real casual about dead stuff. He exsanguinates and cannibalizes corpses as a job/hobby, and enjoys it. There's an implied acceptance that he's okay with the fact that the Scavs will eat each other as soon as someone happens to keel over, which includes him also being dead and eaten. He's cool with that, ig. Or at least, he's cool with eating the others if the situation presents itself.

So he's got a weird relationship with life and death. When you're alive, you're a friend. When you're dead? Well, it's not really you anymore, is it? It's not someone you care about anymore, it's just a corpse, not a person, it's just resources in an empty vessel, not a friend. Nothing worth getting emotional or upset about. Perfect for being comfortably detached.

Because this is getting way too long tho, here's the point I'm trying to get to.

Why does Misfire lose his shit a little when Krok starts panicking and trying to call for his squad? Here's my theory, I guess.

Thundersaur is dead. He died, and he's gone, and Misfire knows this. He wasn't there. He didn't get to say goodbye. He didn't get to return the favor or repay the debt. He didn't get to show Thundersaur that he cared for others too, that he passed that on.

But while he accepts it, he doesn't want to think about it. Doesn't want to dwell on it, doesn't want to acknowledge that he misses Thundersaur. He's dead, he's gone. So it doesn't matter. Misfire can't need him anymore, and he doesn't want to admit he needs anyone anymore, because someone he relied on is dead, and he wasn't there for them to rely on in turn.

So he doesn't think about it. But Krok does. Krok thinks about it, and talks about it, and still admits to needing his dead. Even if he won't acknowledge the fact that they're dead, and gone, and never coming back, no matter how much he wants or needs them anymore.

And it feels unfair, and Krok keeps unintentionally poking at that repressed grief Misfire won't touch. A reminder with every click of that dismembered finger, that you can't always just will away the grief of loss, of death. There's going to be reminders everywhere. Even close to you. And so, faced with reminder after reminder, the repression breaks, and Misfire snaps because-

They're all dead.

Krok's squad is dead. Thundersaur is dead. Why can't they accept that and just move on to never talking about it, never mentioning it, never thinking about it again?

Because, in their own ways, neither of them have ever truly moved on.
