i'm so bad with dates i didn't even realize today's numbers were 11 and 12 ASKSKS (also i missed POCKY DAY? man, i had an idea for a doodle for that but oh well. i'll still draw it fdgfdhd)

i almost panicked about not having any art for tskym day bc cmon.... they're my boys........ but thankfully i had a deadline to finish some art prints last week and now here we are pftt

the process for this one is a little different from what i'd consider my usual way of drawing. i usually do lineart, flat colors, rendering, and yadda yadda, but maybe it's because i've been doing a lot of painterly disco elysium art lately that i decided to just paint over the scaled-up thumbnail and see where it takes me! (you can see in the timelapse me struggling over cleanly inking tsukki's face before i went 'screw this' LOL)

drawing this was pretty fun! i always wanted to try out my painterly style outside of disco elysium fanart and now i've done it! (well, done it again, bc i've kind of tried it for kghn day too pftt)

there is still something very charming abt the thumbnail in my humble onion, i don't think i was able to retain the exact silent tenderness in tsukki's face from the thumbnail in the final thing but oh well, c'est la vie dghdj (also me drawing yammers with visible nostrils jumpscare [this is only funny to me ASKSK])

What kind of color palettes you normally use?

I'm gonna sound like a total noob when I say this but I kinda. don't LOL

Like I don't work from any specific set of color palettes, more so I pick colors that work for a specific character design or an environment's tone and go from there! I like consistency in my colors, especially with recurring characters, it feels weird to use colors that aren't dedicated solely to that character. It's probably the 'tism LOL but like... even when I was doing black and grey pages, I had it down to a SCIENCE to ensure every tone of grey was consistent - I wasn't using flat colors, I was using a milli pen set to a lower transparency and then would cover the area a certain number of times to get the correct RGB number LOL (I still have so many of them memorized even though I haven't drawn a black and grey page in like 3 years LOL Uzuki's hair is 163, Mitsuhiro's hair is 42 huehuehue)

So when it comes to Rekindled which actually has color, I have dedicated color palettes that are saved in Clip Studio for me to use, many of which are based on colors that were used in either S1 or the pilot episodes of LO.

As you can see, some characters were pretty straightforward and thus have small palettes, others wound up going through a bit of a trial and error process so they have a lot more colors to pick from (though I will say a majority of the colors that Hades and Persephone have listed here go unused, some of them I've managed to retool into other characters / uses; ofc the characters who changed shades the most throughout the original comic would be the hardest to pin down colors for in Rekindled LMAO)

Any color changes from there are usually rendered in post, so for lighting/environment mood coloring/etc. Banshriek and I will mess around with gradient maps, clipped color layers, glow layers, etc. to get the desired result! This means even if the base colors are the same as usual, they can still be manipulated to match whatever tone we're going for with correction layers, it keeps the workflow consistent and easy so then we're not eyedropping colors or anything.

Speaking personally, black and red tones were my favorite vibes for years while working on Time Gate, but working on Rekindled has definitely broken me out of that pattern and helped me grow new appreciation for softer color schemes haha

I just started trying out stained glass, which I know you also do...any hot tips for beginners or things you wish you'd known when you were first learning?

YOOO STAINED GLASS. Fave. I would love to see what you come up with!

Are you primarily using foil+solder or lead came? I've never actually used came so I have very little advice in that department, though I do want to at some point...

Some things to keep in mind, some imparted to me by my craft center teachers and some discovered by trial and error:

Get a designated box to cut glass over, because the more ambitious the shapes you want to cut, the more shards WILL go everywhere and you want to keep them contained.

If you're cutting glass by hand, you cannot make sharply concave shapes. You will think you can. You will think it can't be that hard. You WILL push your luck. You will end up frustrated. Avoid concave shapes.

If you want to cut concave curves, make them very gently and generously sloped.

If you want to incorporate concave shapes in your design, use multiple pieces of glass to make the curve.

Design with glass in mind from the get-go, rather than trying to adapt a complicated image. If you're designing your own work, try to build it around larger, geometric shapes, without a lot of small fiddly curves. Small fiddly curves DO make fun images, but they will also drive you crazy when they inevitably don't quite fit together right. Make sure you build in enough larger, geometric shapes into your design to anchor your piece and save your sanity.

That said. NGL incorporating things like fossils and marbles and weird shaped natural things is Fun. You can wrap anything you want in copper tape.

Draw or print out your pattern on paper and number each piece on both the pattern and the glass itself. Sharpie wipes off glass pretty easily.

When grinding glass, make sure each piece is ever so slightly smaller than it is on your pattern. The thickness of copper tape seems negligable but adds up when you want pieces to fit precisely.

There are non-lead solders, and they're basically fine, if a little more annoying to use. Lead melts more easily, but I usually use zinc because it's not lead lol. Though if you're not eating off of your stained glass, using lead proooobably isn't a huge deal. Always wash your hands after glasswork regardless.

Tip tinner is your friend! Tin the tip of your soldering iron before and after use, it makes it so much easier.

When you're soldering pieces together, I find laying down a base of thick cardboard, laying out your design on the cardboard, and then using thumbtacks around the edges to anchor the glass pieces in place and prevent them from sliding around helps a lot.

If you want to hang up your stained glass creation like a suncatcher, add loops or hooks, and try to put them at junctures/seams of different pieces of glass to distribute the weight and pressure. My go-to method to make loops for hanging the pieces is to take a metal paperclip, and then loop it around needlenose pliers to make a circle with the wire sticking straight out on either side. Lay the flat wire ends along the outside and solder it down. It makes good secure loops that you can tie a ribbon or attach a chain to, while distributing the pressure along the outside of the piece. And it’s metal so solder sticks to it.

I hope that's not too much! I love working in glass, it's fun and it's so pretty.

Currently reading "A World Apart" (memoir about his time in the Soviet łagrs by Gustaw Herling-Grudziński) is making me consider an AU where Kuvira actually does suceed in sending Bolin to that re-education camp lol

It would be a hella dark storyline ofc, but interesting both from the perspective of looking at the Earth Empire and at Bolin as a character.

Like Kuvira supporters say that the main reason she was placed in power was to clear out the shocking amount of bandits in the Earth Kingdom. But we never really learn what she did with them. Like yeah she made some of them join her (absolutely wild that we don't talk about that either like girl wtf) but I'm sure there were bandits who didn't? So I assume those got sent to the camps.

I imagine they'd probably play a role similar to the irl urkas, criminals who would often be sent to the łagrs multiple times and were the "ruling caste" between the prisoners, being more used and prone to violence and immoral acts than political prisoners (note here that "political" is used loosely because you really could get sent there for anything.).

Presumably the civilians of the lower rings who raided Ba Sing Se also got sent there, or at least their leaders did. And others who disagreed, expressed any opposition to Kuvira's regime. Of course, Water tribe and Fire nation people would be there too, though they might be sent to camps more forcused on extermination than labour, since ethnic clensing is more into the Nazi part of Kuvira's inspirations.

It would be interesting, but very dark to see how these people are treated by Kuvira because going "oh Kuvira has camps where she puts those who disagree with her and also people of different nationality" and them barely mentioning it again is... well it certainly is a choice.

And the concept of Bolin being put in an environment like that would be a very interesting, if not absolutely horrific storyline.

It was actually surprising common for Soviet loyalists to get placed in the camps, after a minor fuckup or if they're getting blamed for something for example so it wouldn't be out of the question for Bolin a high ranking Earth empire officer to be placed in the camps with literal criminals and victims of the system.

It would be especially interesting because Bolin is semi used to similar environments, like starvation and being surrounded by dangerous people, but he previously had Mako to at least somewhat shield him. But this time Bolin has to go at it alone. And I think that would be fascinating, because Bolin usually does have someone he can trust and follow. But in this AU he would lack that safety net and have to make his own choices about how he handles this difficult situation.

Bolin is also a very kind person, and I think it would hard for him to see the injustice around him. I think this could be a very good "standing up for what he believes in" storyline that tlok tried to have in B4, which it kinda fell flat.

Also of course Bolin would be dealing with the guilt from helping Kuvira build an empire that facilitates this. And also the betrayal from Kuvira manipulating him for so long.

There's so much to work with here, even though it would a very difficult plotline to implement in a show marketed to kids (cowards)

And yeah if you're interested in learning about the łagry I really do recommend "A world Apart" it's beautifully written and very heartwrenching. And it was pretty controversial when it was published due to the outrageous number of Soviet sympathisers at the time, so it's worth to see. I will warn that the book is incredibly heavy though. Like incredibly.

Unfortunately, Bakool Ja Ja is no longer with us. He started off really good, kicked ass effortlessly and got to level 8 in no time flat. But he managed to die in the Rust Wells of all places, because for some reason there was a Slumberling down there, and for some reason he woke up, charged me, and killed me in one hit. My theory: the Social Repugnance defect is so repugnant that it woke up the Slumberling! Maybe I just smell real bad?

Anyway, after that, I've spent the entire day with the next Qoomer pilgrim, and look! Qoomer XIV has made it to Grit Gate! He's the first pilgrim to get this far, but he's not the fourteenth pilgrim overall, that was just what number I was up to when I finally saved the build. I made a lot more after that, most of which died at level one, and I stopped bothering changing the name. He's probably the fortieth or so. But, this guy got real lucky! I started in a random village, and the starter quests were to go to another village and find their thing—this second village also had a quest to go find their thing... back in my first village—and to go discover a salt weep somewhere in the desert. I managed to do this on accident while being lost.

All this gave him a couple levels, and the first Unstable Genome procced. The options were, I don't remember, but I took Teleportation, so I'd have an escape button if things got hairy, which I knew they would many, many times. When I went to the Stilt and turned in all the books that I, um, "found," that got me to level 7, and another mutation: this time I took Precognition, since that would open the door to both shenanigans and saving my highly endangered bacon.

After that it was just exploring, getting lost, fighting stuff in forgotten ruins, fighting stuff in lairs, accidentally teleporting myself—yep, Quantum Jitters, my favorite—fourteen strata deep who knows where, trying to use the Recoiler only to find they gave me one with a dead battery, so on and so forth. I gained more levels, and more Unstable Genomes stabilized: next up, I had a pick between Stunning Force and Domination. I felt like Domination would be more in tune with my mind-powers Esper, and lead to some shenanigans; but I also really like Stunning Force. I had to yield to practicality, though, and I took the third option: Manipulate Light. Yeah. Can't-miss lasers that make me self-luminescent, so I could dual wield hammers? (I was hoping to be a mysterious swordsman, but, when it came time that I needed to spend points on some way to fight, the best weapon I had was a steel hammer.) And later I added Pyrokinesis to the mix.

So far, going good! I know, I always die right after I say that, but, consider: I die all the time, anyway. I'm not going to Golgotha until my final Unstable Genome procs—this will be the first time I successfully get all five to go. I'm only using my mutation points to power up the ones I've got, too, I'm not buying any new ones until the Unstable things are done. So far, my build has been to the tune of "How can I most effectively run away?" But, it's been working! I'm level 14 now... must be my lucky number... So, we'll have to go find a nice cave to explore and see if we can find any goodies. I've got a Recoiler with batteries, Teleportation, Precognition, and also a relic shield with a 6% chance to teleport me away whenever I take damage. So, if things look bad—which they usually do—I should have plenty of means to bail the entire hell out of there.

bots; unending bots

You know, my accounts didn't used to get targeted that much by waves of bots. I would see people post about, and sympathize with, getting waves and waves of bot followers, while I would get a couple here and there.

A couple of days ago, I had like, 7 bots show up. Yesterday, I went through and reported/blocked 60+ new bots. Today, my follower count has shot up by 200, almost all bots, and I just can't. (I don't know of a way to mass report/block?) Hopefully all of the reports/blocking that people are doing right now will result in these getting cleared out at some point by staff.

(It's a weird mixture, too. Some are the usual completely blank blogs with random names/numbers, no reblogs, no likes. Some are pornbots. Some are Turkish casinos. Some are Vietnamese gambling bots. Some are just flat-out financial scams. I don't ever remember seeing such a variety before? Usually it's JUST pornbots.)

And it's just on my art sideblog, not this main account, too. Weird!

Anyway, the usual plea for new real accounts out there: do *something* to personalize your blog. Changing the default icon is good, but bots are definitely onto that. Putting a blog title and sub-title is good too. (I say, from an account on which I have a title and sub-title that both just consist of my blog name, lol.) It just helps people tell that you're NOT a bot.

I'm so sorry for freaking out...

I've been trying to get a handle on my emotions, but I feel like I'm in a downward spiral a lot of the time - I come from DeviantArt and Discord where things have been rough to say the least, and it gives me a LOT of paranoia for other sites. I had to leave the Murdle Discord server after I was scolded for being too affectionate to my murdlers. That as well as my psychiatrist not giving me a straight answer on whether I have autism (my god what do I have why will no one tell me) really takes a number on my ability to talk to people and create art

So like, last night I stumbled upon your discussions of why a lot of TOTK’s whole… everything is messed up, and it had me thinking about it so much I had troubled sleeping afterwards. So uh, thanks for that lol (/lh). In all seriousness, your takes on how imperialist Hyrule is in this game, how much less like unique cultures the various towns feel like, Ganondorf being both completely flat and also seemingly not meant to be, and how weird it is that Zelda is back in power really put into words a lot of thoughts that had been nagging at me as I’ve been playing. Like, the amount to which the writing has suffered from BOTW is staggering when you actually lay out the problems. Out of curiosity, do you have any idea what the fuck happened? Like did the writing team change? The game had so much potential, as seen by the numerous fan theories/AUs etc. So what went wrong?

Honestly? I have no idea. I'm not usually that big on behind the scenes stuff anyways, and I'll be real here, I went into this game pretty much 100% blind - I didn't even watch any of the trailers, I knew NOTHING about TOTK except from a few details I absorbed from hearing other people talk about online (basically, I knew Ganondorf was going to show up as a talking corpse, Link would lose an arm, and the Master Sword would get rekt).

I rarely buy games as soon as they come out anyways tbh; I can only think of three games that I've actually gone out of my way to get as soon as possible after their release, and that was the 3DS remakes of Superstar Saga and Bowsers Inside Story (two of my favourite games ever, and Superstar Saga having literally been my first RPG), and I picked up the Mario 3D All Stars collection on launch day as a favour to my older sibling (who was stuck at work), and got one for myself in the process. The only reason I bought TOTK like a week after its release was because one of our dogs was literally days away from having a puppy, and so I knew that the next few weeks of my life would be entirely dedicated to keeping the other two dogs busy, assisting mom with the newborn puppy, and just generally being on call to provide literally anything mom needed as soon as she needed it. Which meant a lot of sitting around waiting to be required, and I'd need something to do that I could easily pause at a moments notice. So... new video game seemed a good way to fill the hang time.

And it was a good call, like I said, I've been having loads of fun with this game. There's a reason I've almost got 300 hours of gameplay, and it's not (just) because I haven't had anything better to do in between taking care of dog stuff (though that number is somewhat inflated due to me leaving it open and paused for hours at a time while busy with dog stuff). It's just that the story is a fucking mess.

As for what happened with the story... I have no idea. I've seen some people suggest that they might have been planning something a little more ambitious, and then technical limitations forced them to walk it back, so the story had to be hastily reworked to match. And I've heard that the abilities in TOTK were just ideas they had for BOTW that they couldn't fit in, which honestly I can see - the abilities are cool and all, but let's be real here, they aren't nearly as distinct as the BOTW runes. Magnesis, Cryonis, Stasis and Remote Bombs were unique powers with different uses in different areas; now the powerset is just Recall, Get Around Slightly Faster, Ultrahand, Ultrahand But In Your Inventory, and Ultrahand But Faster. But I don't know if that's actually the case.

But honestly, I really don't know why the writing is so awful. To be fair, some of it is definitely just the English translation team shitting the bed - like come on, they didn't need to have Sidon and Yona repeatedly exchange the exact same line about how he's scared she'll die like Mipha. They could have at least changed the fucking wording to make it sound more natural. And I know that other translation teams managed to inject some more nuance into the story - the French translation actually managed to call Rauru on his imperialist bullshit! For the throne room scene, they had Ganon refer to Rauru with 'vous', the formal form of 'you', but Rauru refers to Ganon with 'tu', the informal form of 'you'. 'Tu' is for use in casual settings or between friends, and if someone is using 'vous' for you, referring to them with 'tu' is a MASSIVE insult; it's very condescending, and implies that you have literally no respect for that person whatsoever, but they should continue treating you as a figure of great authority. To sort of translate that into an English equivalent, it'd be like if Ganon walked into that scene using formal language and referring to Rauru as a fellow King, and Rauru responded by treating Ganon like a small, dumb child. Hugely insulting. Also the vous/tu disparity has a History with French colonialism, so that adds some implications as to what Hyrule's really doing with their 'allies'. And in the scene where Ganon takes the secret stone, the French translation has him say Rauru tried to force him to submit, which is an outright accusation of imperialism (as opposed to the English saying Rauru wanted to control Ganon, which suggests the problem was Rauru thinking he could find a peaceful solution instead of just executing a foreign leader for thought crimes)

So the english translation definitely had the room to put some more nuance into things if the team had wanted to; honestly I kind of wish I knew Japanese so I could compare it to the original script and see if any of the problems I've been bitching about were part of the script from the start, or if the English translators were just particularly bad. But Nintendo is a very conservative company, and Japan is a very conservative country with a serious nationalism problem, so I kind of doubt it, especially since the game portrays Hyrule pretty much the exact same way that Japan is portrayed in propaganda justifying their own imperialism. That... does not suggest the English team went apeshit. That suggests that the awful shit was in the script from the start, and the English team was just totally on board with it.

As for the writing teams... I mean, to be fair it's been like seven years, of course the writing team isn't the exact same as BOTW. But honestly, the main issue is just that they've recycled a lot of old problems from the Zelda games, and somehow stripped them of what little nuance they had before. Like, Ganondorf trying to take over Hyrule because Evil has been an issue since Ocarina of Time (which this game was clearly heavily pulling from), but even though OoT never told us he had a deeper motive, the worldbuilding still showed exactly why he would have such an issue with Hyrule. We knew there had been a bloody civil war only about a decade before Ganon's takeover, we knew that the Gerudo were treated with disdain by Hyrule, and we saw that Hyrule's alliances with the Gorons and Zora were pretty flimsy, and neither race felt like Hyrule actually gave a damn about them. But most importantly of all, OoT gave us the Shadow Temple, a horrific prison meant to inflict unspeakable torture on its captives... all on orders from the Hylian royal family. Hyrule's hands were never clean. We weren't supposed to side with Ganon in OoT, but we were shown a long list of reasons for why he was so pissed off.

Someone else said that TOTK feels like a retelling of OoT that's just pro-Hyrule propaganda, and that's a pretty good summary. I don't know what the fuck Nintendo was thinking, but honestly it kind of seems like they're trying to stick to the formula of Zelda games at all costs, while also making the entire game just a huge 'gotcha' to all the fans that have spent the last 25 years seeing Ganondorf as a sympathetic character with depth and reasonable motivations. I find it ironic that they decided to include the Wind Waker boomerang and shield in the game, considering that the whole game feels like an attempt to get everyone to forget Wind Waker ever happened. That's still the most human we've ever gotten to see Ganondorf - he didn't have many lines in that game, but the ones he did have mattered. At the end of the day, WW Ganondorf wanted to have a better life for his people, and he knew Hyrule would never let that happen. But now apparently Ganon just wants to dropkick puppies into woodchippers, and he doesn't give the slightest hint of a fuck about trying to wipe out the Gerudo people entirely by attacking them with an endless sandstorm plus zombie apocalypse. His only character trait is Evil.

If I want to get really cynical for a minute here, I think it's basically just a cash grab. If your game prompts a moral debate, then it can offend people, which means they won't want to give you money for it. But if it's a simple black and white conflict with no nuance, the fans will love all the right characters in the right way, and everyone will love hyrule and want to see more of it! It's like the fucking MCU; they're not willing to tell a fresh story, or make any serious commentary. They just want something safe and formulaic that has been statistically proven to make money. Fucking cowards.

how many wips do you have going at any given time? i work full time, and i only get weekends to do fan art.. so i told myself that no matter how many idea sketches i had, i would only work on one piece of art at a time and not start another until its done! this means i don't put out work too regularly lol.. so just curious as to how other artists that do art full time work! :D

Thank you so much for your question, I’m more than happy to share my experiences with WIPs!

First I organize my sketches and WIPs into folders based on what they’re for: zines, personal work, commissions, etc

Some of these canvases are just sketches that *may* turn into full illustrations but most of them are WIPs. I didn’t include my commission or other zine folders, which brings the number up a lil’ more!

I tend to bounce around WIPs based on when they’re due. First I’d warm up with a limited palette challenge, then I’d work on some line art, followed by adding flats to another piece. Then I’d sketch out some more ideas and add on to the ever-growing WIP pile.

During Linktober, or when it’s close to a certain deadline, that’s when I’ll focus on one piece until it’s finished. Like I said before, usually I’d bounce around and take breaks in between stages. That helps me take a step back and see the piece with fresh eyes at a later time.

One piece took me a whole year to complete! Thankfully it was a personal, original illustration so I was my own client 🫣 During that long break I learned a lot more about color, painting techniques, etc, so I was pretty happy with how it turned out even though it took a while!

That being said, this is how I approach full illustrations with background, lighting, rendering, the whole pie. If you notice painting is taking a while, then try including some shortcuts in your process! For example, using the lasso tool to color wider spaces, coloring in grayscale, and then using Gradient map on top help loads with digital art. With traditional art, blocking in colors and focusing on values help bring a piece to life quickly!

Also if you’re interested in posting more frequently, feel free to share your sketches and WIPs along the way! Please don’t feel pressured to meet a certain metric, your art making process should reflect what you want to get out of it - are you studying certain techniques? Or vibing and going with the flow?

However you go about it, don’t sweat over the number of WIPs you have. When you feel like going back to a certain WIP then that’s the perfect time to work on it!

lol so i'm very obnoxious about what kind of character does or does not constitute a villain/an antagonist so these are like top 5 that passed that rigorous selection process

graham reid malett aka gabriel (the lymond chronicles). so my problem with villanous characters is that i'm a contrary bitch and when authors want me to really hate someone i usually end up either not caring either way or actively rooting for them lmao. but with gabriel dunnett managed to create someone truly terrifying and compelling at the same time. he's sort of a variation on lymond himself in the sense that he's what other characters think lymond should be - he's a version of lymond that conforms. or seems to conform, to put it more accurately, but that's the horror of it all - being a good man vs. seeming like one, and who's to say what's more important in the grand scheme of things? so the depiction of how any reasonably talented sociopath can charm his way to power and none will be the wiser is very realistic and scary but also - his villain monologues? outstanding. his gaslighting game? virtuoso. the homoerotic tension with the hero? off the charts. yet to be dethroned as my favorite villain of all time.

azula (avatar: the last airbender). i just like how cool and competent and dramatic she is and tbh the gaang were able to beat her only bc she conveniently got a bad case of mommy issues at the end. the last agni kai lives in my mind rent free - truly one of the greatest moments of cinema history.

milady de winter (the three musketeers, especially the 1978 adaptation). i knoooow she's the problematic femme fatale trope or whatever but i don't care. she's the blueprint. she has that sad backstory of being used and abused by men but i don't even particularly care about that either. she's an evil spy ladyboss i connected with on a neurological level when i was 11 and i have loved seeing her winning battles and losing wars again and again ever since.

lord voldemort (harry potter). tbh just a classic nostalgic "i want dominion over everything" kind of villain who at the same time represents evil and insidious real world ideologies that we like to think we defeated once and for all until they rise again - and in a very ironic fashion too, given by whomst this particular villain has been authored. i like voldemort's iconography and origin story but i also like how at the end of the day he remains a "flat" sort of villain with none of that boohoo nonsense. like, seriously, sometimes one needs less snivelling and more "there is no good and evil, there is only power and those too weak to seek it". i like the trope of having to collect a number of macguffins and do things in a very specific way in order to defeat him - and it does feel satisfying to see the characters finally accomplish it.

shen jiu (the scum villain's self-saving system). lol unlike in the case of milady i do care about shen jiu's backstory insofar as it means he has done nothing wrong ever in his life but he's on this list bc he's the titular scum villain and the book itself is about interrogating the roles people play in each other's lives and how those can be reframed if we change the perspective of the narrative. shen jiu is the villain bc luo binghe is the protag - the book tells us so on the meta level. but then as shen yuan learns more about shen jiu - and especially when we read the extra stories from shen jiu's pov - "villain" does not apply anymore as per my very specific criteria lol. in this regard shen jiu is also notable for asking one of the realest questions: while trying to get him to reconcile with liu qingge yue qingyuan says something like "do him a kindness and he'll return it tenfold" - to which shen jiu replies "ah but that's the thing - why should i be the one to be kind first?". bc if you think about it "why should i be the one to break the cycle of violence?" is one of the fundamental villain questions.

My mum is loaded, so I can afford to take a gap year to travel. I’m going to America with John and Leslie for a cross-country road trip for a couple of weeks. I will visit the Cordero family, of course. John bemoans that the city of Samwell doesn’t exist in this universe, or something, so we’re making a stop at Providence since that’s ‘the next best thing’ or whatever. Leslie really wants to see Ohio for some reason. Apart from that, we have no concrete plans.

What will I do afterwards? I don’t know. I can go to university, like Luis, Scott and Sam. I can try to find a place where I can enrol in February. Or I could look for a job, like Ryan and Arnold.

We’ve graduated. Our entire life is in front of us.

John tells me not to worry, since my story will be over anyway. That’s so weird, because I feel like I am only just at the beginning.

I tell him that.

“No, really, man, this fic will be over in a couple of paragraphs,” he says back, “Around 300 words left!”

As usual, I don’t know what he means. The two of us are walking up a flight of stairs. We’re visiting my mum. She moved to a new flat in Camberwell and there’s an extra room. I will move in here after I come back from my road trip, because I like the idea of living in London and I miss my mum.

We leave the stairwell and go through the door that leads to my mum’s floor when I see someone in front of one of the flat’s doors.

This guy is on his phone, leaning against the wall. He’s wearing a floral top and jeans. A large bag is slung over his shoulder and he’s holding a huge water bottle in his other hand.

I didn’t recognise him for a second, with his hair loose like that and with a casual look, but it’s Baz Pitch.

What the fuck? What is Baz Pitch doing in my mum’s hallway?

He hasn’t noticed us yet, too engrossed in whatever’s on his phone. We pass him without a word and quickly enter my mum’s flat before he can notice us.

“Mum?” I yell out.

My mum emerges from the kitchen. Her hands are covered in flour.

“Yes, dear?” she asks.

“Why is- I mean, there’s a guy loitering around at number 61!” I say. Does my mum even know that’s Baz Pitch, the Pitch Heir? Even I had troubles recognising him and I just spent 8 years in the same class as him.

“Oh, that handsome young man?” my mum laughs, “The neighbours joke that he haunts that door day and night! They should just give him a key already.”

“… They?” I ask, but I can already feel the dread building up.

“His boyfriend lives there,” my mum says lightly, “I haven’t actually seen him yet, since I am often at work, but I know that he lives there with a friend.”

And yeah, Simon and Matt (and Penny) are neighbours now, but no worries, Matt will continue his uneventful life in ignorance. The dude won't know Simon's moved out to Hackney Wick till idk a year after??? I might tell him sooner, but as I mentioned before, gaslighting my bestie for the narrative is a treat.

All this to say that the world of Carry On.... carries on, even without Matty giving you a glimpse into it. Apart from what I mentioned above, I have no fucking clue what's next for him and therefore neither does the author. Or is it the other way around??? Do I only not know because she doesn't know??? Probably didn't like Bennett AT ALL, most likely saw his bad luck as a nuisance to the rest of the group.

But then he saw Bennett just trying his best, fully-charged burst boosting him as he demolishes everything in his path (god i love his ult ily benny)

(He cares ok, I'm not taking constructive criticism this stupid puppet cares for people)

Bennett was scared of the wanderer as a whole at first: with his intimidating and somewhat quiet first impression, he gets even more scared when he laughs maniacally while turning a hilichurl camp to dust in a minute flat.

I think he probably admires his strength and Scara now becomes a semi-motivation for Benny to become stronger LOL

"I wish that kid would stop yelling so much. His shrieks are shrill on the ears. I'll probably get used to it after a while, what with his luck being as atrocious as it is."

wanderer / zhongli

Wanderer wouldn't know that Zhongli's the former geo archon, so his long monologuing about Liyue culture are just the ramblings of a guy who has an ancient soul.

Every once in a while, Wanderer will listen in on Zhongli's stories of the adepti or about the land they currently stand on.

I think Scaramouche would like the stories of the different flora and fauna (no this isn't about fall in fall his teapot lines have him admiring the Sumeru forests ok).

Zhongli finds the strange Wanderer to be somewhat of an enigma. From letters that the dendro archon sent him, his mental stability was not the best before he started traveling around Teyvat.

At first, he was careful to make sure the others were safe and that the Wanderer's temper wouldn't go out of control.

But the more he travels with him, he sees the care in his eyes when he picked up Bennett when the boy accidently tripped and almost fell off a low cliff.

In a flash, the Wanderer has the back of Bennett's shirt in a tight grip with two circles hovering behind his head.

"He talks so much, but sometimes that nonsense can be somewhat entertaining. I've learned more about Liyue in the short time I've been near him than I have in my centuries long life."

"His words are quite frank, but I have no worries that he will harm anyone that I care about. Even if he is often harsh and without filter, I will make sure he doesn't hurt anybody."

"Ah, apologies. I didn't realize we had already arrived. I will continue the story at a later date."

"No, keep going. We'll probably have to wait for that adeptus to save the kid from something on the way."

xiao / bennett

As usual, Xiao is cautious to be around normal humans; his karmic debt isn't great for them to be around for long.

But then Bennett happened, which caused those plans to throw itself down the chasm.

Is this human... doing this on purpose? The amount of times that the anemo adeptus had to save the unlucky boy has probably exceeded the number of years Xiao has been alive.

On the other hand, Bennett has actively tried to avoid getting into any difficult situations. He's scared that the adeptus will show up out of nowhere and hear him sigh for the nth time.

In return, he tries to make him almond tofu, which somehow ends up wrong in so many different ways (the pudding part is too hard, it's a bit misshapen, but when Xiao takes a bite it tastes like the sweetest of dreams).

"He's just like any other foolish mortal, putting himself in danger to prove his worth. But, in his case, I don't believe he's doing it intentionally..."

"I thought Adeptus Xiao would also be somewhat scary like the Wanderer, but he's really nice! Only when I don't trip and fall into the water again..."

"What for? This seems rather spontaneous."

"Well, I thought it would make a good gift! Besides, I think he wanted to get a bit stronger too."

bennett / zhongli

As the two supports of the team, they often sideline while the two anemo DPS go wild.

Bennett being the youngest of the team looks up to Zhongli, the oldest, and tries to listen to Zhongli as much as he can. He thinks it would help him in the future.

Of course, he learns a lot about the rich history of another nation, but Bennett finds himself becoming an overall better person to the people around him.

Zhongli also has a soft spot for the clumsy Mondstadtian boy. His optimism and bright outlook often has Zhongli smiling at the energy of the youth.

Rambles to him about rocks. Every single rock Bennett brings to him he could talk about for hours. Third-Round Knockout's storyteller has learned so much from these two eating meals there.

"Mr. Zhongli always has something and interesting to say! I've learned a lot from him and I want to be like him someday."

"As a child from Mondstadt, he's very free-spirited. Barbatos' people have no problem speaking their mind, which is very different from the mora-centered businesses of Liyue. I enjoy his company very much."

"I'm doing alright. I was on my way to accompany the adeptus Xiao to Wangshu Inn. Would you like to come?"

"Wangshu Inn? Sure, I'm down! What for?"

xiao / zhongli

Poor Xiao still isn't used to acting like Zhongli is a stranger, occasionally slipping up every once in a while and calling him "my Lord."

It just feels so... odd to be addressing him as anything else. Of course, he means well, he's trying his best to accommodate for his now-human Lord

Zhongli is glad to see Xiao doing well, despite his karmic debt. While he feels upset that he can't do anything to help with Xiao's pain, he tries to remind him to take his medicine every once in a while.

On the battlefield, they work as harmoniously as melody and harmony. As Xiao takes care of all the enemies, Zhongli is right beside him to make sure nothing catches him off guard.

(Not that Xiao needs it, but he's just happy that Zhongli is there :D)

"Ah yes, Rex-the consultant. I often find him talking to the director and more recently that young Mondstadtian. I wish that I could talk to him a bit more loosely, and yet..."

"Have you talked to Xiao recently? I worry he hasn't been taking his medicine recently. Perhaps I should go to Bubu Pharmacy myself sometime soon."

They might seem to get along, but they're the most tense on the team.

While Wanderer is often taking center stage, Xiao isn't a selfless offensive member either.

When they aren't competing to see who kills more enemies, they get into the pettiest of arguments.

Wanderer still retains the part of himself that likes to tempt people to becoming angry, and while Xiao knows that he still often scowls and glares at the other anemo vision wielder.

One time, Zhongli wanted them to get a bit closer by having them eat a meal together. When he came back, he found the food cold with Xiao unleashing attack after attack on the hovering Wanderer.

When asked, Xiao refuses to answer what happened and the Wanderer is smiling awfully.

"I find it hilarious when that adeptus tries to look at me. What is it about other long-living beings and finding me so suspicious? Maybe later I'll steal his kill again to see how he snaps back."

"That man is nothing but trouble. I heard from... Zhongli that he almost wrecked havoc in Sumeru. It doesn't help that he's often an insufferable brat-"

Spent a month staring despairingly at these poses, and then spent like a week with my sister @whatevenisavalidname (who is far more experienced in art stuff) fixing them and actually finishing the art pieces. Ah the joys of art.

Number 1

I actually finished this one last lol. It had remarkably few issues and I only needed a bit of help working out how the spider went. And making sure it looked right. It’s the only one where she’s on something instead of being in the air, fun. This one she has visible claws, so that’s fun. I started drawing the claws in at a later date so only a few of these have claws. We can say the ones that don’t have it were from before The Incident.

Number 2

This was the first one that got claws actually. Not too many comments on it other then it looks neat and the webbing was a pain. and the hands. Especially that back one. It turned out nice though, so I'm glad. So many pretty stars in the background. Very nice.

Number 3

I drew this one without assistance, it was the only one done before I got my sibling to help me, and I vaguely regret that. The arm should be a bit shorter to bring the hand in line with the legs and the upper calf is too short and needed to be lengthened, but its fine, its fine. Hands don't look that awful, and neither do the feet, and y'know it looks neat, so we're good, its fine.

Number 4

Finished this one second last, so it also has visible claws, good for her. Caught mid swinging, has visible bottom of the feet. I was somewhat tempted to make the bottoms pink and then decided against it. Only pose where we see her left hip, so we can see the origin point of the leg webs. Yeah no hand or feet comments, they went fine.

Number 5

I specifically moved the arm so that the hand was hidden behind the leg and frankly, no regrets. Yeah no big comments on this, it looks neat. Also has visible claws. On the one hand you can see anyway. I do like the silver and orange cast of additions added to this one, and the second one, the orange from the city lights below, the silver from the moon. Looks neat. Gives a very nice ambiance.

Number 6

This had a different pose in the initial sketch, its one of two that did, but I gave up on that sketch and ended up with this pose instead. The general idea of the pose didn't change too much, but this one looks much better. This one also has visible claws, and yes my sister assisted a heck tonne with the hands. Blame her for the functional hands. I can draw two hand poses and its straight out and flat and then set on a hip. Fists are not on that list, but I did a grand total of 3 fists in this picture set and its all her fault. The circle around her was an orange one and then I turned down the opacity and now it looks like that, and I like it. I think it looks really cool. Plus the rainbow background of course. And all the little tiny buildings.

Number 7

This one didn't change much, didn't need much help either. I have no excuse for the back hand, but I do appreciate the feet. We see the return to no claws this time, poor dear. Looks pretty cool though. I like this background too.

Number 8

Final one! Glad you made it this far. Mai looks particularly buff in this one because my sister so thoughtfully re-did the sketch for me, and she's very good at buff people(Go check her out cowards). It's okay Mai deserves to be buff. Like number 6 the general idea of the pose is the same, it just looks better now. Ignore how the inner left leg on this one and on the 7th contradict each other in design. It's fine, ignore it. I forgot this one also had fists, so that makes 5 fists in all of these, very impressive for me, who doesn't usually draw hands in any position other than on a hip or flat out. This was a slight issue since I hadn't designed her back, but I think what turned out looks fine, so we're safe. Yeah I like this one, we vibin, we good.

Overall:

Worth the time, they all look cool and I hope I got somewhat better at drawing. I've never really drawn action-y poses like this before, so it was good practice. Especially the couple where the torso wasn't as visible. Good practice, good outcome, excellent.

steps (dont have to be in order but this is how i did it):

filters: smart sharpen and sharpen

it makes it sharper (lol) and reduces noise and blur so its clearer? i hope the pics help im not sure how to put it in words sorry 😭 its really trial and error so play around with the sliders

adjustments: levels and curves

levels make it darker overall. i usually mess with the first box (blue circle) the higher the number the darker it will be. on the other hand curves also controls brightness so just move the line thingy until you like what you see (sorry its very subjective, looking back i realised theres not much difference sometimes jdslkd)

adjustments: hue/saturation

it looked a little flat so i move the saturation slider to the right. if you want certain colours to pop out more or to be less prominent go to the dropbox (blue circle) and pick the colour and slide away (once again sorry for my vague explanations it gets worse)

adjustments: colour balance (midtones, shadows, highlights)

uhh i want it be slightly more red and less cyanny so i mess around with the midtones (if you cant tell at this point i really dont know what im doing)

made it darker red and less yellow?? for shadows

slide towards the colour to be higlighted more??? (why does it look the same at every stage now 😭) just know you can always come back here later and mess with these some more until it looks nice to you

adjustments: brightness and contrast
