#i don't remember hitchhiker's guide that well

Hi, idk if you're a Mdni page or not, but I'm really scared. I'm 15f, I live in a mostly red state, I've grown up here, and everyone I know is voting red. I was previously in the middle, I didn't care either way who won. I'm terrified of the election after reading about everything the Republican candidate did and plans to do. I wanna know if there's anything I could do to help prevent Trump from winning the election? I have a younger sister, and I don't want her to have to live in a country where her rights are being stripped from her. I just wanna know how to help. Thank you for reading and feel free to delete if I broke a boundary.
for the record I don't mind anyone sending me an ask, everyone is welcome to interact respectfully.
that out of the way, I remember working for Hillary in the 2016 election (by my math you would have been 7?) and our intern was your age and he was... he was everything he was so dryly sarcastic, smart, unflappable, could do anything, he kept us sane and he saved our asses with his can do (and tech skills) more times than I can count.
So to any teens out there who are not yet old enough to vote and think "oh there's nothing I can do" in 2016 we won a Senate race by 1,000 votes, which 100% was the doors we knocked and the voters we talked to out of our office, a 16 year old intern working his ass off saved Obamacare in 2017, not a word of a lie, you can make a difference as an intern or volunteer
Now, from the tone of what you're saying it sounds like your parents would into that, idk if you're parents are the kind of people who let you explore your own thing, or the kind of people who just wouldn't notice, or if they're the kind who would seriously object to you volunteering for the Democrats or progressive groups.
A lot of people assume because they live in Red States or Blue states they don't matter, but for example there are key Senate races this year in Texas, Montana, Ohio, and Florida (Red) and Maryland (Blue) Alaska is a traditionally red state but its one and only Congressperson is a Democrat who will run a very close race to get re-elected again this year. So where ever you live there is a key race, even if it's local. And lots of chances to call voters or send them postcards in swing states
Any ways everyone check out ways to Volunteer Run for Something also supports younger local candidates so if you live somewhere very red or very blue it can be helpful to find locals running for school board or city Council
now for you personally young person, and everyone else, have real and serious conversations with people in your life about this stuff, I can not TELL you how often I knock on someone's door and we talk politics and they tell me "oh well I'm a Democrat, but everyone around here is really a Republican" but like I just talked to 4 other people who were Democrats in their neighborhood, they just saw one Trump sign and gassed themselves up about it. People are often much more swingable than you think, feel everyone out, if there's an adult in your life thats convincible, work on them find out what they care about and bring them facts, be claim and reasonable and work on them. Each of us doing one on one work with people who know us is WAY! more impactful than any TV ad a campaign can buy.
finally if your parents won't let you volunteer for Dems, reach out to the League of Woman Voters, they're not partisan, so they're not Dems or Republicans, they believe in voting. When I was in High School I organized a voter registration drive in my school at lunch time, thats a great thing to do, call your county/town clerk's office and talk to your school, get a social studies teacher involved they love that shit, young people are much more likely to be Democrats so just registering them is helpful.
best of luck, in the words of Hitchhiker's Guide, Don't Panic.

Free Time
Free Day
And now it is time for you're regularly scheduled programming of "Introverted Artist Blabbers About Their Work While Slightly Showing Signs of Instability (the fun kind??)"
Free Time - Decided to try and stage this one as if they were actually hanging out during the FTE's in the game with obvious embellishes here and there. Byakuya wasn't canonically reading the "Introvert's Guide: How to flirt with very cute boys" which just makes me think of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy but gay/hj Side note, though I am aware of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, I am only aware that it is a book and I have only watched the movie and it was when I was a kid so I don't remember much of it besides one scene in the movie with a rock monster that was a reference to that one bad Star Trek film with William Shatner and because of how exhaused I am from these pieces and probably just this week as a whole, the only thing I can think of now is "Ha ha Shatner has the word "Shat" in it". I cannot be salvaged ;-; AHEM... I got on a tangent. So, some other thoughts I have about this one is that I'm happy with the heir's expression. It's giving me the very specific feeling that he's glancing at the book a few times before glancing at Makoto before mentally spouting something along the line of "Erm, I don't think this very applicable to my life". That just cracks me up. What an idiot. Free Day - Staged this one as if they were having a free day to themselves instead of the literal meaning of it being the free day for the prompt. Thus, this one's more domestic. They're marathoning bad movies by the way. Cus I say so and good bad movies are awesome. So many good options too. For instance, maybe it's a classic like "The Room" or maybe something more obscure like 2006 movie "Dream Home". Maybe even one of the many assortments of terrible animated films. What matters though is that they're being cute and do the cuddles. Also, I can also see this drawing maybe be them not watching a movie or TV of some sorts but maybe just conversing to one another as well. That also fits too! Some other things I wish to say is that I'm really proud of their expressions here. I feel I did them well though I really wish I could do a thinner line art style that was a lot more loose. Due to my set up, there's no way I can really accomplish that since what I'd want involves a lot of variation in the line weight to add to the softness of the image. Another thing is, as for why I like their expressions, I feel it tells a cute story. Like, Makoto's a lot more of an open person so he's laughing freely without shame while Byakuya looks like he's trying his hardest to hide his expression even in the comfort of Makoto, his favorite dude! His buddy 'ol pal 'ol friend. Also, holy crap. Why is Makoto absolutely rocking that jean jacket? Like, he's rocking it so well in my eyes and I love it. Think this is a sign I gotta draw Makoto in more jean jackets.
Edit: Oh my gosh. There are so many run on sentences here. How on earth am I an inspiring author???

Seriously, if being a retail employee weren't so draining and demeaning and needing to constantly be on your feet increasing profit for the company upsell upsell get memberships you can always be replaced? I would not mind working customer service at all. I remember the layouts of stores very well and like helping people find things.
I remember when I worked at the bookstore and this person asked for some sci-fi I don't exactly remember but I recommended he check out Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy and other Douglas Adams and then I saw that same person back the next month to get the next book in the series. And it just... I dunno. I really like doing stuff like that. It's the kind of thing that makes me feel like a real person on Earth. Does that make sense?

2, 6, 17, 22 (pokemon and/or hitchhiker's guide)?
ask game
2.a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom
h2g2 for this . heres my Hot Take. Arthur you can make an argument for him as a switch based on Cursed Knowledge (the deleted scene from Fish.) Ford? He's a bottom. That man will never top Arthur and he doesn't want to. Mr Play-to-lose? Please.
6. which ship fans are the most annoying?
h2g2 - TRILTHUR. By god. Bad taste!
pokémon - Satosere
17. there should be more of this type of fic/art
h2g2 - There should be more uncle ford & random fic!! I've said it before but they have so many interesting parallels. He'd be a good uncle/stepdad and I think Random would be able to connect well with him.
pokémon - It'd be fun, I think, to see more of the game protags/rivals interacting that don't interact in canon. Aside from like pokemas bc that's different. I don't think enough people have fun w the fact that May/Brendan are like a year older than Red/Green, or that Lucas/Dawn/Barry are the same age as Ethan/Kris/Lyra/Silver
22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
h2g2 - Remember when Ford hacked a giant robot? I do.
pokémon - In the games, not enough people went as insane about the weird gay tension between Nanu and Looker in the original Sun/Moon postgame as I did. There's like three people and a pet rock in the ghost town that is the Nanu/Looker ao3 tag but one of those fics is like my favourite ever.
In spe, Red's safari zone misadventure is like a key character moment imo LMAO

Thoughts on “Yonderland” ? (aka the British surreal fantasy comedy sitcom made by the Six Idiots, aaka the people who created and wrote and starred in BBC Ghosts)
Another great show I've just finished.
This is GREAT. And funny. Extremely funny.
It's completely nonsense and absurd but it can also be rather subtle in its stupidity. Once more it's aimed at children but there are more "adult jokes" than in Ghosts. (I don't think children will get the "My struggle" book joke. I hope they won't honestly🤣 )
The humor is maybe a bit darker and I love that too. It's very silly and doesn't try to convey messages as strong as Ghosts (where it works perfectly well).
The direction is closer to a sketch-show direction but I LOVE THE STRONG VISUAL ASPECT OF THE SERIE. It's very inventive in terms of colors, patterns and you can feel that every side character has a precise and complex outfit. The world building is anarchic and so is the narration but it just WORKS SO WELL.
I'm usually not the biggest puppets fan but it was made in such a peculiar way that they just add nonsense and help to create this weird atmosphere.
It reminds me a lot of the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy because every concept is pushed beyond the limits of stupidity. The sitcom's humor is also caracterised by the non-rational behaviour of the inhabitants of Yonderland and I love that. They just think silly and nothing is explained.
The way characters are written is very different from Ghosts, it's almost the opposite. Whereas Ghosts had few side-characters and PERFECTLY WRITTEN MAIN CHARACTERS, Yonderland has lots of side characters, but each of them is to be remembered (the monks of truth, Bombero, the resistance group, the man who lives in the forest and kills bunnies, the ninnies...). The main characters are great too and Debbie is wonderfully played by Martha Howe-Douglas. (The elders raaaah best characters ever ❤❤❤)
I just wanted to add the fact that they named a stick Rick. Why ? Because it's funny. AND STEPHEN FRY OMG I ALMOST FORGOT HIM.
Ghosts was heartwarming. And so is Yonderland. Because, and you know it as well as I do, silliness is comforting.
Silliness is the way. Nothing makes me happier than having a TV-acid trip while being completely sober.
So go and watch Yonderland. 👉
(Thanks @yonderghostshistories for the recommandation <333 )
It feels empty without a quote now.
Trevor, you're a blob.

✨Weekly Tag Wednesday✨
Thanks for the tags @mybrainismelted @deathclassic and @francesrose3 these questions are so fun @energievie!
Name: Jess
Age: A Nosho and a half
Location: Oh Canada, Our Flag Has a Leaf On It
And now, think about your childhood and tell me:
Did you have a nickname and is it still used? People called me variations of my last name. Or they sometimes called me Tuesday.
What did you want to be when you'd grow up? A writer 🥰
Your favourite cartoon: Xmen or Loony Toons *Meep meep*
Your favourite TV show: Weirdly The Price is Right. Or Sabrina the Teenage Witch maybe?
Your favourite book: I read so much even then so this is a hard question. HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The Hobbit. Lamb by Christopher Moore
Your favourite toy: I had a stuffed bear. I don't remember his name but he's in my storage closed right now.
Your favourite thing to eat: Much like Kat's Mom, mine couldn't cook and was always trying to make stuff healthy. So I loved other people's fun snacks. Fruit by the Foot was contraband in my house. Or McDonald's nuggets cause they were also banned.
Your favourite school subject: English
How did you spend your summers? I was a summer sleepover camp kid. It was nothing like Carl's experience. We'd canoe and swim in the lake. I learnt to sail. There was art and kissing behind the cabins. It was fun.
Did you listen to music? If yes, did you have a favourite band/artist? Yes. I've always loved music. I listened to Alannis Morrisette (my first album), Metallica, System of a Down, Lincoln Park, Eminem, Mariah Carey, Savage Garden and Spice Girls. My taste is still just as eclectic.
And lastly, tell me something you did as a kid that your parents still don't know about: I'd say I was going to sleep over at a friends and go to a raging bush party in the middle of the B.C. forest where'd we'd throw furniture in a huge bonfire and I'd sleep in my car. Still surprises me no one died.
Well that was a disturbing fun walk down memory lane! Tagging you beauties if you haven't done it and if not just hi hi hi! @mmmichyyy @darlingian @michellemisfit @ms-moonlight-inn @samantitheos @sam-loves-seb @redwiccanrobin @bawlbrayker @mickeysgaymom @krysmiss @jessieoneday @heymrspatel @crossmydna @suzy-queued @stocious @creepkinginc @lady-ekaterina @juliakayyy @look-i-love-u @sgtmickeyslaughter @ian-galagher @missdaytonameth Also hi you - you reading this - if you see these and want to play just dm-me or comment! •❅───✧❅ joswriting ❅✧
: ̗̀➛ writeblr intro
Hello there! My name is Jo (shocker!), I am in my 20s and I write stories and poems in my free time. I used to have a writing account on here many moons ago and I really miss the community, friendship and support of talking with other writers about our projects, so I am trying to rebuild what I've lost.
: ̗̀➛ about me
very interaction friendly. we're all just people on here (also please tag me in games forever)
science fiction! science fiction is my everything. it's whatever. I'm normal about it
themes I write about a lot include: death anxiety, internalized bigotry, general dissatisfaction and the complex and confusing nature of existence
scifi flavour wise i like doing weird time or multiverse stuff
I'm also queer (lesbian, aromantic, whatever), if that matters. This comes up a lot in my writing be it explicit or not.
I write in German and English
: ̗̀➛ my wips/projects
⸻ On the end of everything 🌠
An "essay" on how the multiverse died, those who noticed, and how they learned to live with their fates
[reblog tag] [posts tag] [wip intro]
⸻ Poetry 🗒️
I don't post my poetry on tumblr, instead I self host it here. I love writing poems I get such a kick out of it!
My favourite poem of mine atm is this one: Lines Out Of Context
⸻ Starship Lovelace 🚀
The Starship Lovelace is an Earth vessel far from home. The human crew mysteriously disappeared decades ago - now a small group of aliens has claimed the ship.
[posts + reblog tag]
A collection of half-assed short trips, I'm trying to build my own kind of space ship show here. It mostly serves as a way for me to keep writing and get ideas out of my head without much drafting or anything. I've got a pretty good vague plot for it in my head and I'm trying to do it justice with my newer, more thought out chapters. You can see all entries: here.
The stories are hosted on the space story collection pubnix/website Cosmic.Voyage, which i just know some of you would get a kick out of.
: ̗̀➛ inspiration
on the comedy side: the two Dirk Gently books, the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, the Red Dwarf novels and Doctor Who and the Krikkitmen in particular (British people are grim, I like it)
on the more serious side: Frankenstein (my favourite book everr), many Doctor Who hiatus novels but especially Dead Romance by Lawrence Miles, the works of H.G. Wells (love that guys scifi that just completely misses the mark but was properly scientifically researched for its own time) and, to an extent, Der Tod und andere Höhepunkte meines Lebens by Sebastian Niedlich, which is a book I remember liking a lot as a young-ish teen
generally I'm a huge fan of Doctor Who and Star Trek
I sometimes reblog posts about media i really like on here too so for more check out the tag: good media
So. The first thing I’d better do is invent my audience. I'll pretend there are thousands of you out there, and I'll pretend you're all just like me; young, smart, pretty, and sarcastic (NB I’m probably being ironic here, although I’m not really sure any more). Just so we’ve got some common ground, I'll pretend you were born sometime in the late 1940s… No, sod that. I'll pretend you were born on 15 August 1948. All of you.
Well, why not? If you’re going to invent an audience, why not invent one in your own image?

WARNING. VERY OLD ART
A (nearly) complete history of every single hyperfixation I've had that I've done a character lineup for.
Invader Zim, 2020
ASOUE, 2020
Literally just some ragdolls I was collecting, 2020? 2021? I don't even remember
The Addams Family, 2021 probably (no one comment on how pale gomez is. i am now WELL AWARE but i sincerely don't think i was back then)
Alice in Wonderland, 2021-2023 (this was actually my own adaptation I was coming up with.)
Novi Stars, 2022-2023 (but the art is from 2022, i've come up with new designs that i like better but just don't have lineups of)
CATCF, 05 and my own adaptation, 2023
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, 2023
i know that this isn't exactly Good Content but I DO like seeing how my art style has evolved since middle school, I think that's neat <3
#my art#art improvement#character lineups#invader zim#asoue#raggedy ann#the addams family#alice in wonderland#through the looking glass#novi stars#catcf#h2g2#btw (aside from the first three) i am still interested in all of these

hm okay so most basic information about meee. the name is arian, my pronouns are strictly he/him. i am a sex-averse asexual (not sex-repulsed. keep that in mind because i do interact with suggestive content like a sex joke or a smut fanfiction sometimes. so be wary of that please !!). also on the arospec, specifically panromantic. i like to write A Lot and you will know from my posts. i am regrettably not a funny person either. hmm i think that's all !!

fanfiction !
the goldfinch
things we don't talk about . : xandra hears strange, loud and suspicious noises from theo’s bedroom. upon closer inspection, she discovers that boris is staying the night. the next morning, she confronts them about it. 1/1 , tw references to alcohol, implications of underage sex, internalized homophobia. not my best work at all, but you can read this one !!
six of crows
a fool's game : modern era hs au where the crows are hired by their principal van eck to steal the rival school fjerda high's mascot before the games. 6/? abandoned. tws of six of crows really. don't read this one, abandoned and i don't know how to even feel about this.
stranger things
i got your letter (hope you feel better than i do) : will gets sent a series of anonymous love letters in his locker. mike's been awfully quiet about this. 2/2, tw internalized homophobia. i don't really like this one but it's been very well-received so you can give this shot if you !
your apparition passes through me : that's the masterpost, everything you need to know :)) DO read this one, this is still very much ongoing <3
we both matter (don't we?) : mike asks max if she could go to California with him on spring break. that sounds like a bad idea, but she goes for it. el is unhappy in lenora; she is not in love with one of her first friends, but she is painfully in love with the certain red-haired skateboarder girl, who makes her laugh. 1/2 i have no idea if there will be a continuation? this was really good in my opinion, kind of sucks that it didn't get any love :((
upcoming !
stranger things
two byler fanfiction, both coincidentally i'll be co-writing with mutuals :). one of them is a eeaao au, written with @qulizalfos and the other is very longfic, slightly crack fic written with @iamtheoneandonlyever that documents mike and will's life from college, all the way to their fifties.
the magnus archives
আমি তো চক্ষুর বস্ত্র ধরে / দেখতে পাই অতীত, ভবিষ্যত, পৃথিবীর অধ্যাত্ম। : a character study of jonathan sims, before being the Archivist. all written entirely in bangla, bangladeshi!jon obviously, a focus on his language, his grandmother and his culture. only like two people in the fandom probably can read this.
here are my side-blogs :)) : @incaseimakeit-daily and @16-04-16-daily . also, credits for the dividers goes to @//saradika-graphics :))

Anne Rice and her lawyers certainly left a mark on fanfiction history, lol. In elementary school, after watching Hellsing, I entered a vampire phase where I consumed any media with vampire stories I came across (Anne Rice, Vampire Hunter D, Blood+, the classics like Dracula and Carmilla, Nosferatu, and even Twilight). This led to my appreciation for authors and books that include a gloomy atmosphere and/or supernatural or mystical elements, such as the works of the Brönte sisters, Poe, Frankenstein, and Marion Zimmer Bradley. Generally, I enjoy flowery language and drama, and if the main character is miserable throughout the story, I'll probably like it (hello, Raskolnikov). I also dig multi-generational stories (like One Hundred Years of Solitude, Isabel Allende’s The House of Spirits, and The Maias by the Portuguese author Eca de Queiroz). From more contemporary authors, I tend to read popular book series (like The Hunger Games, Percy Jackson, Game of Thrones, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). There's nothing I've read that I find boring or dislike for any reason today, and similar kinds of books continue to catch my attention, so I'd say my tastes have remained consistent.
I think it's mostly works from Romanticism that influence and inspire me the most, but there's one author – Clarice Lispector – whose originality and unique prose blows me away. I believe Penguin has published her books translated into English (originally written in Portuguese), and she's one of my favorite authors. Her stories often have simple premises, but her strange and unique perspective on mundane things makes everything she writes feel different. I don't know of any other author that can get into a character's stream of thoughts quite like her. Her style is not for everyone – I remember a few of her books were recomended reading at my school and some of my friends complaining about not really liking it, fiding it sometimes nonsensical.
Sometimes I pick books based on random quotes I come across on social media, which prompts me to look them up, read reviews, and, honestly, just by liking the cover and title (usually for when I'm just browsing in some bookstore .
Regarding festivals, I'm considering participating in Black Brothers Fest or Padfoot Fest, if I manage to finish anything on time. I have several drafts on my laptop that I could work on, but I'll only sign up once I'm ready to post (although nothing motivates me more than a looming deadline). Looking forward to seeing you at Padfoot Fest!
Hold. Up.
There's a Black Brothers Fest?
.....
Just drop the pretense and call it Tenrousei-Kuroi fest lolol
Also Allende's for real! We did house of the Spirits in school, both the Spanish and the English versions as an exercise in studying the unique challenges of translating novels--the trickiness of carrying over tone and vibe without sacrificing meaning.
Do you read any Paulo Coelho? I have a few of his knocking around, as well. He seems to be the go-to author when my brother-in-law is looking for a Christmas gift for me >.<

And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things." -Lemony Snicket

What do you think of the Hitchhiker’s Guide movie?
My dad really likes it (I think I remember him saying he likes it more than the book) but I don’t care for it and it is a matter of debate for us
well i just finished rewatching it just now so here's all my thoughts fresh out of the oven!
I don't like it. it's bad and not good. at best it's just mediocre. I hateeeeee that they forced an arthur/trillian romance its so annoying and insufferable and NOTHING. ITS SO LAME. especially cause trillian also became a damsel in distress and I just had to roll my eyes back into my head.
ig the book didn't have enough content to adapt into a feature film so they added an entirely original midsection with that creepy guy named kamala harris or whatever his name was and the entire time i was just like uhhh wtf is happening and why are we here. as a result the ending feels pretty rushed to me.
there were a couple of new additions that I thought weren't half bad though. like the flyswatters on the vogon planet that slap you every time you think for yourself and marvin using the point of view gun to give the vogon army acute depression. those were pretty good.
and who the hell cast this movie? zooey deschanel as trillian sucked ass. I don't like her or her scary blue eyes or her lackadaisical #californiagurl performance. mos def is also a terrible actor and not a convincing ford at all. martin freeman at least has the appropriate depressed british white man vibes to be arthur but i hate looking at his face cause it just reminds me of sherlock.
zaphod is the one I have the most to say about. I actually do like sam rockwell's zaphod because he looks the part and is appropriately sleazy. and I liked his outfits and accessories (though imo there was too much black and I would have preferred more bright colors and patterns). I especially love his combo of nail polish and this little gold chain thingy on his hand. just a nice lil slutty detail.
I'm completely baffled by his choice of a southern american accent though, where'd that come from? is it supposed to be like a bill clinton hillbilly president type deal or something?
and of course there's the elephant in the room regarding his heads. oh christ almighty how I hate the way they handled his second head. I get that it would have been harder to pull off the normal 2 heads side by side in a convincing way for the entire movie (its 2005 and the cgi in this movie looks fake as shit), but good lord every time his second head popped up from below seriously made me want to retch. its sickening to look at and sickening to think about and it's just way more awkward than the more straightforward solution. I also think it's strange that the movie added an explanation that zaphod created the second head during his campaign to store all his uncharismatic traits??? why can't he just be an alien with 2 heads??? I ALSO seriously hate how the other head is all CRAZYYYYYY AND WEIRDDDD AND INSANEEE ASYLUMMMMMM it's not funny at all it's just really hard to watch.
all these issues are kind of surprising given that douglas adams is credited as an executive producer AND screenplay writer? which is also weird since the movie was released 4 years after his death? I have no idea what the production of this movie was like and I'm afraid to find out.

thursday again: lassitude edition
i seem to have put out all the fires that were a trial during March and April, which is rather a relief. This frees me up for more important things, like delighting over mobile game egg festival like kiddie's first Christmas
Playing
Watching
As per @girlfriendsofthegalaxy I went ahead and watched Day of Anger, starring LVC, on the shiny new laptop.
It has a soundtrack made by angels, a coarse and obvious story, and a gimmick every five minutes to keep things exciting. LVC is extremely pretty. I will never watch this again but it was a good time.
look this is just going to be Fallen London until Mask of the Rose comes out. which I don't even want to buy, especially, and yet know I will inevitably spend money on.
Reading
I feel a bit silly having bought the aforementioned laptop only to once again fixate on a mobile game but then again, tis nice having an actual keyboard with which to do the Thursday posts and watch spaghetti westerns.
Visiting
It's probably a sign of my much improved city existence that "oh, we had Cinco de Mayo and I got free tacos" hardly registered as an event. Fun tho!
Listening
Pried myself away from the FL guides long enough to look at the Hitchhiker's Original Radio Scripts book. Did not get past the intros. I would have liked reading a book by Geoffrey Perkins instead.
I suppose I'll get round to it eventually...
well, see, even with a car radio that provides titles and names of the guilty, I sometimes miss who did that Extremely Cool Song on the jazz station. And yet I remember that Elton John has a song out that sounds suspiciously like Bernie had a bet on to see whether anybody would notice if Elton sang the same line for five minutes straight.
But I won't inflict that on you. In honour despair at Murray Gold coming back to Doctor Who, here's the best thing from "The Doctor's Daughter".

Eating
It turns out that cubed swiss cheese and egg cuts the saltiness of the imported Scottish kippers I keep buying despite my better judgment. A more assertive cheese might be beneficial for actual, y'know, flavour but this is still a good discovery. No oil needed in the frying pan but I did take the precaution of microwaving the kippers first.

Marinette's Guide to Adopting The Local Vigilant!!
How old are Jay and Marinette when they first met in Paris? How old are they when Marinette becomes LB? What about when Jason shares his Red Hood design, and how long after before Marinette realizes that the design was a goal and not just a story? Is Marinette taking design classes at college/university level, or is she just a teen going to an independent long term workshop? Oh oh oh, and when did Jay decide, and follow through, to return to Gotham? Was the fact he had a sort-of family to return to in Paris a factor in his decision? Last question: When's the adoption? The D-C family is taking too long to get a son XD
Alright I haven't checked the text for this but iirc Jason is sixteen-ish? MAYBE seventeen but I think he's newly sixteen; Because he dies at 14, comes back six months(?) later, is in a Fugue state for a bit, and then gets Lazarused. WELL the au here is that he just noped outta there on his first or second Lazarus rage and hitchhiked from Nanda Parbat to France. Marinette, on the other hand, is somewhere between 4 and 9, and I know this because she's in the First Grade Equivalent during one of their conversations. Probably six?) because that's an even number.
Marinette becomes Ladybug at 13 a la canon, which means Jason is twenty-two-ish.
Marinette doesn't realize it's not a story until a while later; after she learns that her brother decided to become a mob boss. She just didn't make the connection until there was a news article about Red Hood vs Joker - Timetravel?
She's taking a high school class, actually! Some HS have introductory courses for things like that, but if you've done any level of independent study prior you run into the issue of being bored for the first bit.
I- am realizing this timeline doesn't quite work, since that has Mari being 13 and in HS classes all while Jason's 18/ish and doing crime lord things; I'm not sure what to do about it, so we're going to leave it and blame the fact that I was blackout sick when I wrote most of it. Maybe Mari's the 12 she's supposed to be and just auditing classes, or she did find a non-school sewing class. Libraries do that sometimes.
Um.
Moving on; I don't remember fully? I know that Jason's decision to go back to Gotham was heavily influenced! First the League tried to blackmail him (bc they gotta use Jay to get rid of Tim so Damian can come in), then... I don't remember how they got around the assassins, but there were a lot of conversations between Mari and Jay before he decided to go back for closure. And at the very beginning, Jason was waiting for Bruce to come get him because he didn't know how long it'd been. The plans Mari saw were originally for personal closure; sometimes you just gotta fantasize about murder until you feel better. And then he went back for real, after extensive planning to (safely) make the fantasies real. And yes! Having the Dupain-Chengs back in Paris means that not only is he more careful because he knows he has someone to get back to, but it absolutely affects his interactions with Tim because now he has the stupid older sibling instinct of useless panic. As an older sibling, I relate sigh.
And finally; bold of you to assume it hasn't already happened.
Is it legal? ehh, probably, but Tom and Sabine noticed Marinette's attachment to him and decided they might as well keep him, even if he's only comfortable with them so far. ^~^
#Marinette's Guide To Adopting The Local Vigilante#Silverwhiteraven#Jaymeow speaks#Jason Todd#marinette dupain cheng#Also Jason comes back after Mari becomes Ladybug because no way in heck is he leaving her to be a child hero on her own#That was the scene that started the fic

oh ive got another question
how were your literature classes (or english classes where you did literature) in like middle/high school (basically in classes that were mandatory and not chosen)
bc here like half the books we learn about are czech and the other half are important books from all around the world
but my friend from france told me that they only learned french literature in middle and high school so they never did like shakespeare or tolstoy or the iliad
I known usa is kinda known for almost only teaching about usa even in history, geography and so in literature it wouldnt be surprising, but maybe its different
oh this is an interesting question
very interesting to see the difference in literature education around the globe! I will say I don't remember anything I read in middle school, and my high school wasn't 'normal' in terms of the books we read bc I went to a kind of weird STEM focused school?? idk how to explain it but I did go to a normal high school for my first year so I have that under my belt
anyway, we didn't necessarily read american exclusive books, we did read books by english people as well, but that was the extent of it for the most part? like in my first year of high school we read 1984, of mice and men, to kill a mockingbird, books like that. then I transferred to the weird school so my second year I read hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy and some others, and then we had a choice of books we could read to write an essay on and we were given a list to pick from. I chose fahrenheit 451. the year after that I was in an english glass that had a focus on medical history?? so I read the hot zone by richard preston which was actually super fascinating, it was a book written about the ebola reston virus outbreak in the 80s and went into the science of epidemiology and the strains of the virus and all that. we also read death be not proud by john gunther (a memoir from a man whose son died of a brain tumor in the 1940s so it discussed the cancer treatment that existed in the 40s), the things they carried by tim o'brien, the jungle by upton sinclair, it was a very interesting selection
anyway, yeah, didn't have a very normal high school literature experience. either way yeah it was still mostly american/british centric

hi!! i’ve been thinking about trying to get into reading via audiobooks so i was curious what are your favorite audiobooks you’ve listened to, or books that are particularly interesting in audiobook form?
hey!
hm, I feel like that's a hard question to answer because if audio is available to me, I will always read in that format (at 2x..), and all formats blend together in my memory so I usually forget about the particular audio experience....
I think the first thing that comes to mind is I really like audiobooks with strong/interesting accents - or basically anything that's not 'generic white american/generic english' accent? I think it brings a lot to the story especially since I will read everything in my new zealand accent otherwise lmao. I'm pretty bad at remembering which ones actually do that, but I recall these do:
Bitter by Akwaeke Emezi, My Sister The Serial Killer, Not My Problem (like any irish or scottish YA tbh), Most contemporary books where the MC is likely to have a specific accent or dialect will do this though when it comes to fantasy they often don't :/ you can find out by listening to samples if that's something that interests you I guess!
I also really like the accents in The Unspoken Name/The Thousand Eyes! (a fantasy that Does use different accents for different people)
Some that I loved recently (well, just looking through my list from last year) and idk if it had anything to do with the audio or just that it was the book I liked:
The Spear Cuts Through Water (this has some format things that might be easier Not in audio but idk...I figured it out), When The Angels Left The Old Country, A Thousand Steps Into Night, This Rebel Heart, Space Opera (Catherynne M Valente, very Hitchhiker's Guide which I think works well in audio), The Honeys (Ryan La Sala - has some creepy well placed sound effects), The Misadventures of an Amateur Naturalist
Also Natalie Naudus is a narrator who I always enjoy, and she does a lot of sapphic books so I've listened to a lot by her haha
#ask#a very random list LMAO#i also read a lot of audiobooks that i wouldn't bother reading in print so there's that lmao#but none of these are that#laya talks#by 'books where they're likely to have a specific accent/dialect' I mean like if the MC is Black american or bilingual or Southern US#or whatever#which you generally would know if a book is on your radar I guess !
