I purposely left out this person's name, but this clown's behavior and opinion is absolute trash and not at all okay that it needs to be called out. I will firstly admit that I am not too knowledgeable with the source matter (book and movie), only second-hand.
But I will still call this out because of how fucking disgusting this behavior is.
If you're not familiar with the situation, a character in this awful movie/book called Purple Hearts at one point yells out this, "And hunting down some goddamn Arabs!". This movie is also another military propaganda movie since they tried to be buddy-buddy with the "good" locals later.
Horrible right?
Well there are clowns like this one ^ that deem this line "not racist enough" to be worth all this "drama". It's not that big of a deal! There are more awful, vile things said and put out into this world to be paid attention too! Why are y'all so stuck on this 🙄. Go after more bad things being put out there. After all this is just how some people are :)))))))))))
A sad 'reality' as you well
SINCERELY fuck off that stupid shit
I'm sorry, but does that mean it's not then worth being talked about? Worth being stopped? What is actual considered too far? What is too "racist"?
The fact that you deem 'Arab' lives being threatened and taken away a 'throwaway' line, that's not so bad, is fucking vile. When did their lives being stolen, murdered, become so acceptable? Why is this not as bad as more racist lines? Because it's normalized??? Do you not see how fucking foul that is to be normalized??????
If I were to make such ignorant/arrogant statements about any other group/race of people being killed would that be ok?? Would you not call me out?? Why are Arab lives and people like them just another meaningless war tragedy??? What, it's just another day of killing the evil terrorists after all 😎🦅🇺🇸🤪
You get that's it's a "shitty line" to put in a story but is that all that is? Just a shitty line? "It's ok since it's basically normalized. Sad but true", again when did you began to think this was alright? Should they have screamed out a slur? Would that have pushed you to think it went too far? What is enough??? Why can't Arab people being senseless murdered be. enough.
I get your desensitized to the middle east being a place where we kill the evil terrorists and where a bunch of brown/black/other people died/die but I think you VERY much need to sit down and realize how much you've been taught to think this was just another part of life. How much military/american propaganda have genuinely swallowed? Why is this thought normal for you?
Some of you may think I'm being too sensitive about this, or that this is 'stupid and meaningless' but I will ask you the same types of questions I'm asking the op.
Why are their lives just a throwaway line? And why is it such a typical sacrifice that you are unbothered by it?
Genuinely ask yourselves
#txt#purple hearts#fuck off with this stupid shit#i don't care that it's not racist enough#it's not fucking ok#fuck people who think these ideas/thoughts are alright#do BETTER#op hope you heal from this brainrot#bookblr#books#military movies#movies#netflix#netflix movie#clown behavior

"Louis acting like a pimp to Armand" And what is a pimp exactly? Quickly. And, oh so sexual trauma survivors can't engage in kink now without it being all about that? Pet names? They can't be submissive anymore? Consensually? Sexually healthy? Be serious. I'd hardly say there's much power difference between them during all this anyway, except that Louis is freer than Armand and it's been putting a strain on their relationship. Louis wants more from Armand, and less of this 'being his past' for them both, and so helping Armand with this could fix that. It's healthy to want to help your partners get out of a rough patch?
I mean, the whole exchange was very clearly set up as a "I want to help you" after such a great moment of vulnerability Louis feels just how much Armand is desperate for it. Louis called Armand so they could work out a plan together.
And the bit with the umbrella was Louis' way of asking 'are you willing to listen to me?' and Armand said yes by unfolding it. Louis goes on and explains, Armand is allowed to argue against it, but Louis makes his point. And then he gives Armand a way to make his own choice in it too. Armand's already decided 'I want you, more than anything else in the world', but Louis still asks after if he's sure of his choice, and with a name, Arun, that is the one of his fullest agency, running the point home. Honoring the situation Armand calls Louis Maitre - as a way of being like 'I'll do as you've said then'. To make this work he's going to have to give Louis some of the control, yes. But it's the first time such a role is ever established, and it was his choice to do it. So so what if they do it in a very suggestive way? They can't like doing that? I think it's them having fun.
I struggle to find how Louis is being overly domineering here when really he's giving and offering Armand the most agency he's ever had. Same with finding it manipulative. The manipulation was more earlier in the episode I think, when he was stringing him along, giving mixed signals. He's no longer toying with him like that. Louis might be pushing Armand, leading him on to make a decision, but he doesn't mean bad by it.
But back to this pimp thing. I find it frankly offensive that this is where people are going with this. I get it, but to run with it being the case is, on many levels, wrong.
Louis told us episode 1 this was the only sustainable line of work to support his family and keep their standing, at the time. It was never his choice to be doing this either but his blackness allowed no other options. He did what he did so his family could stay in that house and maintain all their same comforts. It gave him privileges most black men didn't have at the time that he wanted to maintain and even have more of. Anyway, it doesn't and had never defined him the way 'being good at running things' had. And in that case he just likes having that kind of control where he can get it, which makes sense.
The world is what placed that kind of role onto him of what he was allowed to be able to run, not himself. And on that he actually treated the sex workers he employed well and respected them enough to give them more opportunity.** He recognizes they don't have much in the way of options either.
Louis employed sex workers, yes, but he didn't subject them to abuse, (like how Armand was)*. He didn't oversee things in a way that would go against their consent (see; episode 1 again)**. Sometimes a job is just a job. And Sex work is work.
Armand's particular past with sexual abuses may strike a particular cord with Louis, given all that, but the very last thing either is thinking is that Louis' pimping Armand out here. This is merely their decision as companions, and had nothing to do with adding another line in a laundry list of selling Armands body out to people at the command of someone else. Armand rescinds some of his control to Louis' wishes, because he wants him, and he trusts him, that's all.
If you aren't allowing Armand that choice, and are doubtful it's fully his, you're putting him right back in the box of being defined by his abuses. Putting him back into that space where he isn't given any agency over what he does. (Which is exactly opposite of what the intent of this scene is for)*.
*: (edit) added for clarity.
**: (strike through) numerous people are saying I'm misremembering these points so disregard it. (Thought he was siding with Bricks, it was the other way around). (Technically one aspect of those opportunities were for getting around the law). I don't have a perfect memory, it happens. Let's not get mad about it. Doesn't change much of the point which is that Louis, now, Louis then, was always considering more about the running things and for stated purposes. So I guess I'd say he may only have respected the SWers enough sometimes for what allowed him to do that, and there are moments he certainly expressed remorse over the fact, but he has a great deal higher respect for Armand that is genuine. It's incomparable. Please read my added notes in the tags, it should address most other concerns.
#amc iwtv#iwtv spoilers#iwtv season 2#Loumand#louis du pointe du lac#armand#interview with the vampire#IWTV#Many people are ranting about this but I'm throwing my hat in too#signed someone who went through csa and is close friends with many swers#long rant#noticing spelling errors in this after posting ffff#added note: I'm not saying armand and louis dynamic is without it's flaws or that louis was somehow without his exploitation and faults#while he was a pimp#as a pimp though he certainly wasn't going about it in the same way as what had happened in the brothel or with marius#I more so say that their very actions are of a healthier dynamic than that this is true even if they themselves are not exactly so#all for nuanced and messed up relationships that run everywhere in this show#But I still don't see it as that specific dynamic I wouldn't call it that there's just an amount of that dominence at play#neither want to be tethered to the roles they've been playing previously and they aren't entirely different for it but#are still arriving to this idea of needing something new to define themselves by and something they both want#they're exploring with this companionship that they're still trying to get a feel for#we as an audience might know they never do fully work their shit out and so are doomed but they don't at that point#last thing I guess is that I am not here to start shit it's fictional and not that serious 4 me 2 care enough 2 go after any1#not individually no#These are just my thoughts#I heavily caution using this idea of it being like the pimp 'jumped out' or whatever for reasons above#and its racist implications as others have said more bluntly (I've implied it)

continually infuriated with SC for her portrayals of black people and district 11 and i'm again going to touch on her portrayal of thresh, very specifically how he talks/his speech & some other tidbits. (as a black person, because i fear that has to be made clear.)
let's take a look at these. if you've read my post on my issues with d11, you'll recognize that they were also in that post and explained upon.
it is so redundant to have a black character whom in which is already a stereotype in and of itself to be further stereotypical. thresh is a "physical wonder," made out as if he's more of a beast than a person despite being an outlier & not trained like a career. he's made to seem intimidating and imposing and all around terrifying for someone like katniss, who differs in statute and mass. that's strike one. in most media, black = intimidating. which is not only harmful but just endlessly racist. now, for the extracts above, his speech.
SC has managed to imply a lack of education or a lack of understanding of speech, just from how thresh speaks alone. (“you kill her?” / “i let you go.”) he lacks the typical “did you” or “i'll let you” in both those phrases, with the words shortened to impose the idea that he isn't very grammatical. i don't have to explain to you why that's problematic. we could go through the slavery talk and how black people were discouraged from any level of education when possible, as their jobs were simply to work on the fields/plantations. SC imposes an impression that the people of 11 are not entirely grammatically educated from thresh's speech alone. yes, there's rue in comparison — who seems to speak fine despite being younger than thresh, which is a very specific thing that sticks out. you have thresh being quiet, reserved and only physically imposing. you add his level of speech to it, and it paints a very shitty picture which shows that she doesn't really know what she's doing and she's basing him off of an idea of a black person and not ... an actual black person.
thresh spares katniss, but at the same time acts out in a very brutal sort of violence prior in which is almost primitive with how it's portrayed — he's one of the only tributes that doesn't use a weapon such as a knife, bow, sword, etc. he picks up something from his environment. to me, SC characterizes him as something closer to a caveman, rather than a terrified teenager running on justice and a need to survive. she draws back to the old racist beliefs of black people (and by extension, black men) as being capable of only abhorrent violence, uneducated and worse, near uncivilized. it's a death game, people are going to be out of their usual selves in order to vie for the spot of victor, which is understandable, but it does not look good for him. it just doesn't look like she understood the drawbacks to writing thresh in such a loaded way (loaded being microagressive and heavily stigmatized.)
peeta (equally physically imposing) literally joins the careers, the brainwashed, bloodthirsty bunch of teens that thrive on murder in order to bring glory to their district, but thresh is the significantly physically imposing one and gets to be painted in such a harsh and violent light despite intention and circumstance. yesss. very telling. thresh does one good deed & shows himself to be a thoughtful and understanding person despite his traits and suddenly we all think that means that SC understands how to write a black person positively. nooooo. unfortunately not.
#people aren't going to like this one#but i'm sick of people constantly trying to paint SC's visions of black people as positive. because they mainly aren't#there's also the colorism with rue & her actress in the first adaptation#there's just. a lot to say imo#if you don't like the fact that i've had to compare SC's characterization to something prehistoric i do not care.#it's exactly what it looks like#and it's exactly what some people in this modern day believe black people are like#like what a fucking hurdle to have to jump over. in the sense of writing thresh but having to avoid the clearly racist stereotype that he i#in some places#same shit with reaper#and chaff#apparently all SC's written black men have to be fighters. why is that#the hunger games#thg#the hunger games trilogy#district 11#behave on this post or i will take off reblogs#for a special interest i am absolutely critical of thg's details. that will not cease.#will NEVER forget that one time i tried to write one of those “so crazy how sc wrote black people in a positive light” posts and#people liked it MORE than when i gave my criticisms on that huge post w/evidence. that alone says enough to me#be willing to talk about racism in fandom pleaseee

every so often i will see a post from a leftist on this website that is so egregiously ableist that i remember that like. oh yeah the userbase of leftists on this website is violently anti-disabled people and will jump at any chance to demonize any of us for any reason. i just forget that fact because i'm extremely dedicated to curating my space
i'm paraphrasing here but i saw a post that said, "every time i see an American [disabled person] mention being scared about the election because they're afraid of losing their benefits i have to laugh. anybody who wants blood-soaked money from the US government deserves to starve" which. like. goodness that's a lot to unpack. i think we should burn the whole suitcase instead !
#i inserted [disabled person] because they used a fucking slur instead and i didn't want that in my post#like i feel like there should be room for disabled people like me whose lives literally entirely depend on accessing said >#> extremely limited benefits in conversations about whether voting in this election makes you complicit in genocide#which like! i do understand. i do. it's nauseating to think about what this shit ass country is doing. it's horrific. i do not blame anyone#> for not wanting to be a part of that. *and* i am also terrified for my own life because i remember the first time trump won it suddenly >#> became IMPOSSIBLE for ANYONE to get on benefits. EVER. and so many disabled ppl i know went to renew benefits theyd had for decades >#> just to be denied. one of whom was a below-the-neck paraplegic. he died because he lost those benefits!!! because trump won#i really do understand why people dont feel right voting for harris. or why they don't vote at all. i truly do. but holy shit i am so scare#and yes! i am aware that people in palestine and gaza are suffering so much worse. and i wish i could change that#but every single person in power in the US is pro-israel and eagerly drinking the anti-palestine kool-aid. no matter who wins >#> things will not change in that part of the world. and it is infuriating. when the revolution comes this will change. but it hasnt.#the revolution will not save me as a physically disabled person. it will not save any of us. we do not matter to leftists. i am sorry but >#> this is the one thing i have learned after being in leftist spaces for over 10 years. and posts like the one i mentioned prove it#so i am very sorry. i really am. for being physically disabled. but i cannot survive another 4 years relying on my parents for everything#if trump wins i will be killing myself. this is a promise. i cannot do that again#i know it makes me a bad person to be afraid that harris will lose. but people on the left already think i'm a bad person for being disable#i want the genocide to stop. i absolutely do. i also want to survive. i am terrified that the US leftists will sacrifice disabled people#like me so they can feel good about being put in a real life trolley situation#again. im sorry. im so fucking sorry. i wish i was a better person. i wish i was able to give more. i know that if i was just a good#person i would be able to have a job and give to every palestinian gofundme on my dash. i would be able to do more than my daily clicks >#> and reaching out and calling representatives that don't care. if i was a good person i would be able to convince my parents that z*onism>#is deeply fucking racist. and that israel is wildly racist and killing palestinians for fun. if i was a good person i would be able to make#>them leftists too. im sorry. im sorry. im sorry im not good enough. im sorry that im scared. im so scared and it's not right for me to be#when so much worse is going on because of this countrys bloodlust. im sorry that im benefiting from being born here i dont want to be#im sorry for not having any other options. if i was a good person i know i would have them. im sorry. god im sorry im so fucking sorry

really also wendy's "good ending" centering around a beautiful (presumably terrible as usual) Family(tm) Meal is sure like, an expression of that idea that it's beautiful & not terrible of Superiors to just pay any kind of attention to their Inferiors....wendy gets to have family dinner As Deserved because these are Her Kids who have gotta show up when she feels like it's family dinner time, not even a question that they wouldn't. and despite that, even as the "good" parent of the two, wendy's attention to her children is of the "minimal maintenance / occasional Exceptional demand" kind, it sure Is that "good" that wendy chooses to do any of that ever, or to be like okay we're having this family meal now with me because i want that. like it was Good that chuck sr. wants to do whatever he does to his son because, right there, that's His Kid, so. family as a hierarchy is definitely beautiful, why not psuedo marriages like when some epic guy with true claims to being a Real Man is like yeah sure i guess i want to have this woman, therein lies perhaps some beautiful redemption for that man if this woman is magnanimous & not like too inadequate or selfish as to not motivate him to Better himself, or not Try to do so. wendy sure won't break with axe fully ever no matter what, which would've been selfish of her (had to be a reason she didn't go to superhell with him that Didn't damage his ego, as is apparently always the case in turning down any winner around here. Taken For Granted you will of course grant them access to whatever they want, like dragging you along on their banishment when like, has this guy talked to his ex wife about his kids before doing this? who knows. or that one kid he projected on? well that doesn't count, nice of you to do the Performance of being unconditional support man, but no problem if you forget he exists. that's not Your Kid in any way that's supposed to play into your power like Your Family (ft. kids you own))
#only kind of breaking with this in axe Actually materially & in spirit supporting taylor going off & doing their own thing. last second.#wendy supports this insofar as she has forgotten taylor exists / is not interested like whatcha doing lately. great. don't tell her#wags just also Definitely stays after s5 because uhhh. scooter never breaks with prince until he's taken down anyway; great#& can walk away himself b/c Family protected him after him just no problem like yeah i believe in this guy So Much i'll consider murders#in between explaining he's not racist while he's right there to explain that for himself i'm sure. while redditors go why was this gay#just little Nonstop Backup Sidekick Eternal Enabling ''partner'' things there for sure. what; like how women are supposed to do?#obviously we just Assume rian has no issue w/taylor forgetting she exists. & that's correct. taylor who also Must see her off though#just Good Dynamics on billions.series#winston billions#meanwhile if you're as inferior as winston you can get another Gracious Gift of Contempt on your way out#and then taylor will lead the way hurting you (only to then take a back seat b/c wags is Superior) & rian need only be asked to twice#while there's about half a dozen reasons she should be upset at wags &/or taylor over that but no. & she's now forgotten winston exists#which; yes; is fine as usual. if you're barely less inferior? you're so Peersy as usual that maybe you live together now. nobody cares#as per ben & tuk like eugh the kind of Cringe Gay dynamic men who aren't Tough Enough deserve. wendy's ''care'' for everyone is#beautiful; in that she forgets they exist but wants to be god of their life whenever she feels like it. ben & tuk caring about each other#when they don't Have to as part of some Status Difference & when they care about Others & want to hug them? Bitches in a Bad way#wendy's a girlboss who wouldn't care about Feelings the way that the Ungirlbosses do. she cares abt superior mens' & then telling others#what their feelings should be & what to do with them. & she cares about Feeling like she should get to have dinner with her kids today

"There's this whole crew of gay folks and Usopp as the trophy hetero" you better speak right about my son before i break into your house
#really what the actual fuck#i really don't understand the part of the fandom who says usopp is a straight cis guy#they totally ignore usopp's grown as a character. they say he's just the comical relief. exclude him from everything#when the person in question is an artist they draw him with all the racist stereotypes#when it's a writer he's poorly written to be an idiot and fill space#oda already don't give him enough attention and people still get mad usopp has qualities and screen time#idk if this happen because people thinks he's not conventionally attractive or something#i'm always saying if oda just got rid of that stupid ugly racist mouth people would care more about usopp#“but the mouth makes part of his character otherwise he would be unrecognizable-” shut up shut the fuck up.#no one would miss it#sorry this was supposed to talk about people saying usopp is the only straight strawhat but took a turn lol#one piece#usopp#god usopp#rant

one of the lesser talked about fun things about intentionally reading more books is finding new stuff to be a bit of a hater about tbh
#and i know sometimes im probably just not properly picking up whatever the writer is putting down but whatever it's still fun#to actually know what you think about stuff like the highly regarded classics and extremely popular hyped up things#here are a few writers im a bit of a hater about w my opinions now btw#neil gaiman: does not do it for me at alllll#have read the graveyard book and american gods and hated almost every minute of both#in american gods i just found the aesthetic ideas and characters completely unappealing and in the graveyard book#i thought it was dreary and not well described enough... kept feeling like it was too bare bones in some way to picture things properly#i was like 'hmm i wish this was one of his graphic novels instead bc i'd like to be able to see what's going on here a bit better...'#also his humour just never lands for me and i do not often get his references either#ray bradbury annoys me in a similar way to neil gaiman but also somewhat oppositely like where#the way they write characters and plots and ideas and the stuff they care about gets on my nerves in an almost identical way#that i don't know how to define except to say i had a bit of a 'same energy' experience reading Something Wicked This Way Comes#and some of neil gaiman's stuff#but unlike neil gaiman i think that ray bradbury attempts to describe things unusually so much and TOO much#to the point that it takes me out of the story in a different yet similar way#to how the lack of description in neil gaiman's stuff does#what else have i become a bit of a hater about or did not get the appeal of lately? hmmm#oh hp lovecraft hahahaha#least scary stories ever god everything he's scared of is so dumb#like even aside from his extremely racist takes and fear of the 'exotic other' his fears about being cosmically insignificant are just like#yeah and? whats so scary about that hahaha i literally just dont get it#also the amount he writes dialogue in heavy accents annoys the shit out of me#p

I can't help but wonder if jüri vips is punching a wall right about now
#sometimes i have to think about the dominos that had to fall for liam to end up in this situation#id hope that this FAFO was effective enough at making an example of the guy to permanently discourage junior drivers from saying racist shit#and i don't want to paint liam as some angel#i just find it interesting how liam's career trajectory has benefited from people around him being racist#like red bull management dumps vips for saying the n-word (as they should) but that's obviously for PR because everyone knows#that horner and marko don't give a fuck. this focuses the attention in f2 on liam.#and now almost 3 years later horner is unable to see yuki as anything but a honda driver because of his nationality#and that more subtle racism again ends up benefitting liam because he is the guy who happens to be there at the right moment#about a year ago (after i read yellowface by rf kuang) i started brainstorming a satirical story loosely based on all this#about how in the end even the mainstream liberal side of '''cancel culture'''' can end up primarily helping white people#it wasn't f1 related just vaguely inspired but the stuff i was thinking about at the time keeps coming true in some way#in the end my feelings about liam are pretty neutral. i'm excited that a kiwi is at a top team#but i don't really care about his personality outside of his friendship with yuki. also i am NOT ruling out a mid season swap. mark my words#would like to see a win tho

see my unfortunate issue is that i am sure the wicked movie is fantastic. like it is obscenely long for just a part one of a narrative, but i see such positive reviews and i imagine the acting is phenomenal and that the narrative is drawing metaphors deeply relevant to some current trends being seen. so i understand people's emotional attachment to it, especially queer people.
this being said i am, in many ways, livid that ariana grande is one of the main characters and that for me is like, an unchanging bias i will always hold 😭
#look these days i am trying to be careful to hate#but just. her? HER? known for just like. being definitely very racist?#and separately not a great person like. i understand she is INCREDIBLY talented so i get why they'd want her#for something especially with musical performances but also. i'm not like mr. holding things against people if time has passed#but i actually do not think we talk enough about this even a little bit if she's like. gestures#i don't know i will always be a little pissed at her for that because like come on you were a grown fucking woman

Being a woc fan of Bridgerton can be a struggle, especially when it comes to liking the poc characters on the show, especially the woc. Like I remember when s1 came out and the blatant microaggressions and just plain racism coming from this fandom was atrocious. You had people spewing very hateful things about Charlotte, Marina, and Simon and undermining the latter two's pain and trauma at the hands of the white characters---Marina was treated terribly by the Featheringtons and, whether you like Penelope or not, you cannot deny that she also played a part by releasing that letter to the Ton and Simon was violated Daphne no matter how people try to spin the story to offer her some form of sympathy (it still blows my mind that people would want to though).
S2 is just as bad (not even including how they changed the Sharma family's storyline than how it was in the books when that wasn't necessary) and the racist undertones many of the fans have towards Mary and Edwina (as well as Kate but for her it's carries more brown woman needing to be saved by a white man when Anthony is involved because a lot of you all in the fandom are quick to use this trope such as "oh, he's the only one who truly knows her"). The lack of screen time for this family really ends up hurting them to but even with that, whether you like Mary and Edwina or not, it would be a lie to deny the racism a lot in the fandom hold towards them (and how that falls onto the actresses because it was very apparent how many in the fandom couldn't let two Desi women shine without having to bring down the other and Netflix played into that too for drama) and paints every small thing they do as being terrible crimes but in the same breath will not have the same smoke for the Bridgertons, who have their own set of problems (but because they are also the main family, among other things, they are provided more grace without consequences).
#bridgerton#edwina sharma#kate sharma#mary sharma#marina thompson#queen charlotte#simon basset#like fandoms can be a very hostile place especially toward poc#and don't even get me started on some fans acting like they care about the poc characters but only still fall into the tropes i presented#im nervous for how this post will be received bc ngl when people call out the racist antics in bridgerton people love to downplay it#and that's just not right (for any fandom)#and this impacts actors too bc there should be no reason that charithra can hardly be excited about her role in the show#or how ruby had received so much hate that (probably) as a result had two breakdowns#on top of still being asked by polin and pen fans to denounce marina to uplift their white faves#dni if you can't have a calm conversation here#also seeing the creator of the show say for s3 kathony that there won't be as much angst#more happy couple scenes irks me in a way bc that amount of angst didn't have to flood s2 if they weren't so concerned with pointless drama#like the books themselves gave enough angst without the engaged to your sister plotline and such#also would have made anthony seem like less of a prick and actually respect a woman's honor but nope#don't even get me started on how it seems more common for the poc characters to have to gripe and struggle#(especially with things that....they should not be blamed for) at the hands of or as result of white characters#when in the same breath that courtesy isn't extended to said white characters#(e.g. marina having to push colin in pen's direction even though both failed her#to simon begin assaulted and then blamed for it by daphne and the narrative#to kate having to move mountains to grow (even though for most part she wasn't wrong) but don't even see anthony apologize for his actions)#all the actors especially the woc experience racism (and other forms of discrimination) from this fandom#i haven't even gotten into the shitshow from some fans towards simone and the actor who plays simon#as well as the racism the actresses for queen charlotte faced#a lot of yall need to do better

#it actually makes me sick like physically ill how much praise is heaped onto goyishe american leftists#people who could not point to gaza on a map six months ago. whose knowledge of middle east history comes from outdated textbooks and twitte#for being anti imperial activists and well educated anti imperialists with all the right buzzwords and all the right opinions#meanwhile nothing i say will ever be good enough bc i'm jewish and palestinians are tokenized by people who care more about appearing#like someone who Listens to Palestinians as opposed to 1) doing anything material to help them (like donating money)#and 2) not spreading obvious misinformation. something that does material damage to the cause of liberation#AND further fuels the most insidious of zionist propaganda which relies on the antisemitism of ignorant western goys#this propaganda banks on their antisemitism bc it's that fucking reliable#every white western goy that harasses jews or spreads misinfo about jews or is straight up just racist towards random israeli immigrants#ppl living in the west like running coffee shops that are now having their windows smashed bc that what? supports palestinian liberation?#makes it that much easier for actual zionist propagandists to say 'see. this was never about imperialism. they want an excuse to harm you.'#'you are only safe with us'#i grew up in a cauldron of this kind of propaganda and i was playing on hard mode i got it from the orthodox#it took years of dutiful unlearning. of wrestling with some really difficult realities. of realizing that i'd been not only lied to#but information had been deliberately kept from me to keep me from knowing the true depths of the horror happening in gaza#i did not get the luxury of starting to care about this six months ago during a concerted effort to correct the record#i had to put in the effort to unlearn two decades of propaganda given to me so young i don't remember a time when i didn't know it#and i am by far not the only jew with this experience#i have put in way more effort to care about this than every white western goy with a megaphone posting palestinian flags on IG#but none of that matters bc i am a jew and for the last 5000+ years we don't get to decide how we're discussed or how we're remembered#never mind how many jewish voices (and yes! even israeli voices!) have been supporting liberation efforts in palestine for years.#who've done an amazing job reaching more people who need help seeing through the propaganda they were raised on#i can only be a token who speaks only in protest chants or i can be an evil zionist. the anti imperial work doesn't matter.#bc anti imperial work is hard and none of them actually want to do it they just want the protest photos#anyway this is why i don't discuss this on the piss on the poor website. tbh i don't trust y'all

#delete later#i just want to vent#so there was a very tragic attack in the uk where multiple young children were stabbed#three of them have died#others are in critical care#and it happened at a taylor swift themed dance class#and i am very frustrated with the amount of people who have immediately started saying that the attack is a product of either like stan#culture or just general misogyny#because that very much might be the case#but we don't know that because we dont know (at least publicly) who the perpetrator was and why he did it#what we do know is that three young children have been murdered and others have been wounded#and i just think its both dangerous and disrespectful to immediately speculate on it#also the MP for southport has asked people to stop speculating because of this#because of how easily speculation turns into misinformation and turns into propaganda#like can we please stop treating this mass murder as a fucking ARG#its bad enough that newspapers immediately began with racist anti-immigrant rhetoric and speculation about terrorism#which we can all agree is bad#its not suddenly okay for you to do it because youre an individual not a news source#like maybe you think your post wont get any attention but it might and you are making it publicly so maybe think before you post

How I would fix Dr Who (revisited)
While I am sure there are folks that love the Doctor Who show and the direction it has taken under Chibnal, I know there are others who are not satisfied with certain developments. Ever since the end of Matt Smith's run there have been issues with the continuity of the series: - The expansion of The Doctor's regenerations was first explained via a "time lord energy infusion" in Town of Christmas, but was later revealed to be an aspect of the Timeless Child. - The swapping of sex/gender was first done with the Master and later explored with the Doctor. - Letting go of a Time Lord's power was explored in Human Nature and later in Uptopia, but revisited as being a "female presenting" quality later. - The Bi-Generation creating two time lords.
A lot of this new canon has been... not easy to absorb. And I'm not going to say there's any connection to ratings or audience scores, but as someone who is more interested in the science fiction aspect of the show, I think there is enough of the new canon to play with to fit in with the long-running series canon.
Make The Doctor a distinct being separate from The Timeless Child. - This is the main one, and could be done a couple of different ways. My previous theory was to make The Timeless Child the Time Vortex at the heart of the TARDIS (which explains why it is different from other TARDIS). This would explain the leeching of memories and power to other individuals as well. - Another way to do this would be to have The Doctor either be a bi-generation from The Timeless Child, or perhaps be the son of The Timeless Child who inherited some memories. There are options.
Restore the Regeneration Limit and explain how it was bypassed. - The previous explanation is that The Doctor is the first Time Lord and therefore has endless regenerations. This never felt right. The Doctor being a Time Lord whose uniqueness comes from their decisions, the promise to be "The Doctor" rather than their particular history is the key to the character. - You could do another bi-generation backstory into The Doctor's past, and that part of The Doctor has been dormant, sleeping aboard the TARDIS for near a thousand years (my personal choice would be the regeneration from 2nd to 3rd Doctor). - Then you would have to explain that The Doctor who has been adventuring has been part of The Doctor, but a being who got mixed up with The Timeless Child and is therefore confused. Then explain that the reason for the regeneration limit being bypassed is because of the TARDIS - so many Doctors regenerate in the TARDIS and this is shown to have led to many explosions of energy which were not present in earlier regenerations because this version of The Doctor is growing unstable. - Time Lords are not meant to live more than 12 regenerations, because the energy in their bodies becomes more than they can handle, like a dying star they either go supernova or become dwarf stars.
Kill off the current version of The Doctor and bring in "The Original" - This could be a series-long arc involving The Valeyard - with the "current Doctor" being the Valeyard and "The Original" questing to stop them, but would end up with The Doctor dying and creating their grave on Trenzalore that is eventually visited by 11 and Clara. - The "original" Doctor would then continue the adventures, absorbing all the memories of their alternate selves - and resume the regeneration limit from 3 (a new 3, not Pertwee) and then regenerating into 4.
Anyways, that's how I'd rework Doctor Who if it was up to me. But it's not, so whatever.
#Doctor who#tardis#seriously though I stopped watching because I hated how mean 12 was to Danny Pink#Like there was no reason to be that rude to your companions love interest#I just could not jive with Capaldi and could not bring myself to go back to the show#kept up with the lore and the drama and felt satisfied I stayed away#but can we stop race-swapping people please#I mean I guess its fine when you consider alternate realities but that was never Doctor Whos thing#Like time travel is fine and all and they really haven't done enough fun back to the future or quantum leap stuff about fixing timelines#but as part of a larger trend I just think race swapping historical figures is lame#Now fictional characters is fine and dandy#But like if Doctor Who went on an adventure with Sun Wukong I wouldnt want the Monkey King played by a scotsman#So its just weird to see Isaac Newton played by Nathaniel Curtis#And then to have the showrunner attack fans as racists#Like he was the one who changed the race of the person showing he was the one with the problem in the first place#this is my problem with folks who cry racism or sexism or shout at fans for not embracing changes#they're the ones who made the change from the source materials so doesn't that mean they are the ones with the problem#like don't say its the fans fault for not accepting the changes you make blame yourselves for not getting it right#but again that's just the way I see things#not a shipping post#yeah I'm done talking about doctor who#I bloody stopped watching the show 9 years ago why do I even care

Forever annoyed that "don't speak over marginalized people", the notion that marginalized people are already spoken over, and their oppressors need to actually listen and learn before speaking about complicated topics and need to do so in support of not OVER them, so quickly turned into "I'm not x so I can't speak on x issues". Like the "don't speak on this if you're not this" started out so well meaning because it was about people needing to actually take the time to learn before talking about issues they didn't previously understand! Now it's just an excuse for people to never learn about the issues minorities face or to actually stand up for them in any meaningful way
#forming an opinion is so natural and also important. you can't just stay 'neutral' on everything just because marginalized groups arent#a collective that either fully agrees or fully disagrees with something#you will always have 'lol im x and i dont care about bigotry' folks. always. always always always#you've gotta use your god damned brain and do what's right instead of going 'im not allowed to have an opinion on this'#it's literally just looped around to ignoring issues again. like saying 'racism is bad' isnt good enough when you stay quiet#when your friend is being racist because they're a poc being racist to another poc#and that situation is too 'unclear' for you#ive seen that happen a ton. fucking get over it. yes they're going to respond negatively to being called racist literally everyone does#get over that fear of backlash and stick up for people!!!#this is why radqueers are a plague. their entire stance is 'we dont care enough to think so everything is good and okay'#and has done horrible shit like spread RAMPANT misinformation about mental disorders such as DID#which makes life so much harder for people with DID. and all disorders as they get romanticized instead of actually understood#so the people with the '''bad symptoms''' get shunned#the amount of times I've heard horror stories of actual systems getting abused and forced into all kinds of shit because of endos.......#anyway neutral stances are for things that don't really hurt people or dont matter or#for when youre in the position of actually learning and forming a position#which in that case its meant to be temporary. temporary!!!!!#radqueers dni
