Rural queers, suburban queers, queers surrounded by hate, I may never be strong enough to live your life, but I stand in solidarity with you. you are welcome in spaces with me. lightspeed and stars' blessings to you. I send the same regards to rural/suburban poc and poc surrounded by hate, and it all goes doubly for those of both demographics.
white trans ppl from liberal suburbia in blue states will go on and on about how scary it is to be a trans person right now but the second they encounter a trans person from a red state they’ll be like “ummmmm why would you live in such an uncivilized place lmao maybe you shouldn’t have voted for republicans like if you don’t like how conservative it is then just leave” as if these states aren’t populated by black and brown people who face intense voter suppression and poor people who can’t just up and leave. not to mention the fact that all those articles y’all are sharing about the state of trans safety? those are in our states and we will be the ones who go down first. so instead of laughing at us dumb hicks from your liberal safe haven, consider instead shutting the fuck up and actually doing something to help us. because they’re coming for you next.
#byrd chirps#for real as a queer southerner i support this 100%#i didn't even realize how right-wing my area was until i got to the city and was like Oh Hello Human Kindness#and dgmw i fucking hate the culture i grew up in because it was white-ass assimilated mormon culture#mixed with suburban rich white kids#aside from my own mixed family i saw probably less than one person of color per day#even at school i'd see less than one black person a week unless someone in my class happened to be black#it's gentrified as hell over there jesus fuck#and now i actually get to see some realistic human diversity that isn't as influenced by capitalism#and it's like hello! how many ways there are to be human! how many lives there are being lived!#no more cookie-cutter people living cookie-cutter lives!#(in reference to mormons vs nonmormons bc mormons are kinda few and far between here)#idk there's probably problematicisms with what i just said#but also even the people in my hometown deserve safety acceptance love exactly where they are!#it doesn't matter how much i fucking hate the suburbs the people living there are still people!#i shouldn't've had to leave to feel like a whole human being!#everyone is worth fighting for to someone#and our family deserves community as a baseline not as a reward for living in queersville leftistate#like that concept is so fucking classist bc you just KNOW those queer safe havens are expensive as fuck to live in#just admit you don't care about poor queers and go#and im sure all this applies for poc living in hella racist areas too#southern culture excluding the history of conservatism and its impact is such a joy to me#arizona is my home and i. i don't want to run away. im tired of feeling like i need to run away#im probably going to move to minnesota since it's gearing up to be a queer safe haven#but... i shouldn't have to go. i should be able to find home here#i am allowed to mourn what i am going to lose in the race for safety#and you can't take that away from me#let me mourn the creosote. let me mourn the desert's lives. let me mourn monsoon season. i will miss her dearly#just because the conservatives are ass-backwards doesn't mean that you get to ask me to throw away the things that brought me joy#the things that i've held onto that have made this all worth it

Hey, I don't know if you can handle it right now but iirc you're in minnesota. If you're able, do you mind talking a bit on the feasibility of Minnesota as a safe place for those of us making bug out plans as a coping mechanism atm? Or pointing us to someone who is?
I'm no longer in MN, but I can speak to what I know.
Minnesota is a deeply blue state, and any state that's as blue as Minnesota is going to be a safe haven for people.
When MAGA gets around to axing federal programs, it will be up to individual states to pick up the burden. Many of them will, because those programs work.
Minnesota has a robust healthcare system and excellent state insurance for low-income households. I don't imagine these will go anywhere, and I imagine they will expand healthcare programs when shit gets dicey federally. I also believe (but double-check on this since my memory is foggy) that they've made abortion a fundamental right in their state constitution.
Minnesotans also know how to organize and network, so you'll find plenty of community support on the local level.
Take care of yourself, take care of each other, and make plans and backup plans, but remember that you can still move through this world, and most importantly move through it with each other. You are not alone, not by a long shot.
Anyone else who lives in MN, feel free to jump in.

A Summary of Per Eriksson's Live on Insta (7/30/24) for those of you who haven't seen it. (It's still up on his instagram as of right now if you want to see it)
Under Read More because there's so much. There's a few heavy topics, so please be aware of that.
He was in Sweden again, and he spoke Swedish a little bit. He said he's very good at Swedish. (I don't understand Swedish very well, but he said where he was from and that he could speak the language) The house he stays in when he's in Sweden is his brother's house. The room he films in was built by him and his brother.
He spoke a bit more about The Black River Kult. Orders will be shipped about two weeks from now. He's planning a giveaway of one of the signed guitar picks.
He's not putting his hair down for everyone again. He doesn't love his hair, and he's not sure why people like it. He says if people keep asking him to put it down, he'll cut it off on screen. He says he's too lazy to take care of it.
He said Zero is about 6 months old. He wants to adopt a cat soon as well, and maybe another dog. If it was up to him, he'd adopt every dog in the world.
He's happy to hear that people were inspired by him to learn guitar. He says inspiring people to do something creative with their lives makes him happy.
He explained again that he's not "psychotic" about Snoopy. (Someone said there's a Snoopy theme park in Minnesota)
He's thinking of covering up his Sodomizer tattoo because he doesn't like it. He knows people are going to disagree with him on it.
PER IS 174-175 CM TALL. YOU CAN STOP ARGUING ABOUT HIS HEIGHT NOW!!! (That's ~5'8") He jokes that he's "Swedish Short" meaning he's short for a guy from Sweden.
He said all his height is in his limbs. He's got long legs and long arms. He says he looks a bit freaky. (Side note: this isn't uncommon in people with joint hypermobility. I'm not saying he has that, but he is flexible!)
He has an idea for a restaurant like Hooters but it's all men in tight pants with boners. It's called "Dongs." His OnlyFans will be called OnlyDongs.
He doesn't run the Zero fanpage. He loves it, though.
He doesn't know the band Avatar, but he says the bassist of the band kept hitting on his girlfriend.
He loves Muse, but he hasn't really listened to their newer stuff. He also loves The Misfits and used to be a drummer in a Misfits cover band.
He thought Gojira's performance at the Olympics was very cool.
He's thinking about doing a Twitch stream. He likes first person realistic shooters and horror games. He really likes Phasmophobia. He says he's not a great gamer, but he's okay with people watching him play. He's a big Silent Hill II fan as well and showed off his Pyramid Head tattoo.
Per's new tattoo is a "Fuck Cancer" tattoo. It's on the inside of his arm near his armpit. He says his father died last year from cancer and that it was a horrible experience. He says his mom had cancer, too, but she survived. He says he might need to go to therapy to deal with all of it. (He seemed reluctant to talk about his new tattoo at first).
He says he's not really a people person and he never really wanted children. He much prefers animals. He used to have an iguana.
He says it takes a lot of time and a lot of work to learn guitar. It can be slow and frustrating, but you've got to keep pushing. He always wanted to be a guitar player. He started with drums but he thought guitar was cooler. His brother and his father helped him. His first guitar was a Fender Strat copycat.
When asked if he was watching the Olympics, he said no. He didn't realize they were going on at first. Per says he lives in his own world, so he's not always sure what's going on around him. It's the only way he can live.
He stays away from Twitter because he says there's a lot of stupid people on there running their mouths.
He got into King Diamond because he thought the album cover for Abigail was cool. He ended up loving the album and the rest is history.
He likes tacos and breakfast foods. He used to like bacon, but stopped eating it because he felt bad for the pigs. He wishes he could go vegan, but he thinks he'd probably starve himself to death because he's not good at feeding himself. He limits eating meat.
He can't grow a beard.
Someone asked him what he thinks about hate crimes. He said he believes everyone in the world should be able to do what they want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. He doesn't understand why people would hate someone for being gay.
He explains that just because he doesn't say something about something doesn't mean he supports any of the horrible things happening in the world. He doesn't support any horrible thing happening in the world. He doesn't understand hunting people down for their opinions, though. He's not a political person, so stop asking him political questions or expecting him to make political comments. He says if you want to make a change, then you go out and do it rather than yell at people on Twitter.
He knows people were calling him a Nazi on Twitter. He says it was really weird of them to say that. He says he wouldn't have lasted long among the Nazis given who he's friends with. So to him, it made no sense.
Per addressed a rumor someone made up about him to exemplify how people make up things and they spiral out of control. Someone made up a rumor that Per had children all over the world that he didn't care about or support, which wasn't true. (I remember this rumor. It was awful). He said he got a ridiculous amount of hate for it, even though it wasn't true. So, he asks that people please fact check before sharing anything about him.
When someone said they were starting a "Sodo Cosplay", Per said "I don't really know what that is but maybe you should pick something prettier to dress up as" - clearly acknowledging that SODO is PER and not the ghoul's name.

To all the Americans on tumblr rn...
I am not American, nor am I old enough to vote yet as I missed being the legal voting age for my province by only about a week- curse my extremely late birthday.
(which weirdly enough has also had such an incredibly tight election that they are still counting the votes right now even though it happened 2 weeks ago because the two parties are basically tied. }
but I am also very worried for you guys way down south. Hopefully America will put the right person into power this time and everything ends up being ok for you all. Not to be too cliché but I am sending thoughts and prayers and I hope you guys all stay safe down there. I honestly can't even imagine how you guys fell- I don't even live there and I've been feeling increasingly nauseous as the hours go by and I have had to offline for the most of the day.
Remember:
To take care of yourselves. Just in general, in whatever way you see fit
You absolutely do not have to live stream the election polling/results thing on TV, doom scroll election content the whole day long, watch the news, or consume any other election related content. As horrible as it feels to say this; the results will be the same regardless of whether or not you are watching it. Sometimes it is just better for you and your mental health to just log off of sm/screens for the night
If it all does feel like its getting too much for you, please log off/take a sm/screentime break
Most importantly, if you haven't already, please vote!!!! I am not American and am barley old enough to be considered a legal voter (Missed my own countries election *tears*) so I can't really help in terms of providing resources but I am sure there are all sorts that can help you I'm sure. I know that its getting late at night; some polls have closed already but not as many as you would think. I found out that most are actually open way later than I thought. As it turns out, some are even open til 1! You learn something new every day I guess!
Just Please, Please, Please go out and cast your ballot and make your voice known, with how close this is quite literally every voice matters!!! GO VOTE!!!
Poll closing times in case you need it (I only included ones that close 8pm and upwards because it is 7:30 at the time of writing this)

I'm not really sure what other useful info I could put as I don't know much about America or it's electoral system but I hope that helps.
A lot of people I have seen have been posting about how they feel sick to their stomach's and that they can't get off the news and how they just feel terrible so...
Things you can do to distract yourself for the rest of the night (And possibly the next few days, idk how long it takes to count votes)
Have an early bedtime/take a late nap (Only go to bed after 9 at least though, otherwise you'll mess up your sleep schedule and make you feel worse.) Just sleep your way througb it if you cant help it.
To add on to point one I often use asmr if I can't fall asleep right away/to distract myself. My favorites are: Jaden Aliana Asmr, Oceans Asmr, Kaitlynn Reha asmr, and my absolute favorite Goodnight Moon ASMR (Check out her babble brook, 1920's, or valley girl series')
Listen to a podcast (I like Rotten Mango- informative true crime, Buzzfeed unsolved- funny true crime/ghost hunting, Look behind you- also true crime, and Chris Chan; a comprehensive history)
Never too late for some cleaning! Clean your house, bathroom, bedroom, closet, do a deep clean.
If your a student like me- do your schoolwork! I know you have some studying or homework that needs to be done! Get on it!! I use the pomodoro method if that does anything
Have a self care night- do an everything shower or fancy bath, make facemasks, mani pedi's ect.
Watch a movie or marathon t.v shows you love/that are comfort shows (Some of my comfort shows are; Bobs burgers, Gravity falls, the moomins 1990, the office, what we do in the shadows, black books, derry girls, moone boy, and all creatures great and small and M.A.S.H. Some of my comfort movies are; Little women, the cornetto trilogy, Emma, Legally blonde, Pride and Prejudice)
Never too late for some cooking! One of my favorite hobbies is cooking and baking (Mostly baking) Make some chocolate chip and snickerdoodle cookies, muffins, cupcakes or try a fun cake.
Go for a night walk! Just make sure you bring a buddy and some flashlights of you're in total darkness like I am right now. (Love me a Canadian fall! Already snow where I am so of course that means everyone now needs to immediately put up Christmas decorations lol. At least the lights are nice at night)
Spend time with loved ones. Call or text a friend, spend time with your family, roommates, whoever. If your on campus at a uni see if there's literally any activities or clubs open at this hour you can go to
Read. I know you have a tbr you keep meaning to get to
Go on a research rabbit hole about something interesting. Try to learn something new. Some topics to get you started relating to where I live cause why not; Try to learn about : The Animals of Canada, Indigenous cultures and peoples of Canada- ex: try to learn some Cree or Halqemeylem phrases, try to memorize all of our provinces and territories.
Get through any chores you still have to do
Make/do something creative: Play an instrument, record a song, make a collage, paint, draw
Play some music, listen to your favorite songs on loop (Spotify's still collecting data for wrapped!)
Download a videogame on your phone- just one to pass the time even if its total addictive trash. Some ones I like: Moomin town- Idle, relaxing, town building, slowpaced, free, Miriam webster quizitative- free, wordgames, has an end to it, Toca boca hair salon- not free, hair salon game, endless, Toca boca town- not free but there are dupes, dollhouse game, bird bnb- townbuilding, slowpaced, as well theres all sorts of cute isle cat games; I like the grocery store and cafe ones
Make sure to:
Drink water
Eat at regular intervals
take breaks from screens (It'll hurt ya eyes)
get some sleep at some point
Don't sleep all day (Try to get up at a normal time)
if you feel like you need- put screen time limits on your phone. Or as well, turn down the brightness if you feel you have to doom scroll.
That's all for now. Hope you guys are doing ok and that the results are what we are all hoping for. Just know that you are in pretty much everyone's minds and we are all thinking of you (Even if we don't live in America). Stay safe and take care of yourself and your mental health.
Love, thoughts, prayers, and support from Canada/Tumblr and have a good night.
Congrats if you managed to get through this absolute brick of text. I commend you. I'll probably check back in tomorrow.

i like to think about the guys's family situation a lot because it's barely, and i mean barely, touched on in the show.
these are just some headcanons that i believe, but i feel like most of these are universal.
kendall: so obviously, we have ms. mama jennifer knight and katie. his dad's out of the picture for reasons unmentioned. however, kendall and jennifer's actors confirmed that initially, it was supposed to be that kendall's dad cheated on jennifer and walked out on them (presumably right before katie's birth.) it makes a lot of sense when you put it into context with kendall's actions throughout the show. for example, in s2ep1, "welcome back big time," kendall literally almost ruins his relationship with jo after suspecting her of cheating on him, even though she reassured him multiple times. another example is during "big time concert" when kendall is upset at gustavo because he "didn't even say goodbye." i think that struck a particular nerve in him.
also, speaking of gustavo, i know we like to talk about the parallels between him and kendall. i mean, the show even outwardly mentions it in the first episode. in "big time mansion," kelly mentions that gustavo didn't really have a chance to have a fun childhood. another popular headcanon that i totally agree with is that kendall had to grow up faster than other kids, what with his dad walking out. they both had to grow up fast in their own respective ways.
james: we actually get to see BOTH of his parents! even if we see his dad for literally one second during big time concert. also, semi-unrelated, whoever cast lisa rinna as his mom is an absolute fucking genius. anyway, we got to know a lot about james's family. his mom and dad are divorced, and his dad then goes on to marry a woman 15 years younger. james's mom is controlling and overbearing, but ultimately just cares. back in minnesota, i'd like to think that james mainly lives at his mom's place, but his mom's a workaholic and isn't home that often. james would probably stay at his dad's place every weekend or every other weekend. and, i don't think he would be fond of his step-mom at all. his dad and his step-mom would have a baby and i think james would hold a lot of resentment towards the kid like he's being replaced. but, he just considers himself an only child.
carlos: we get to see both of his parents ! but they're actually super chill and normal. we meet carlos's dad (i can't remember his name, if it's even mentioned) in "big time break," who is a police officer. and then, of course, we meet his mom, sylvia, in the mom episode. and she is an it data analyst! i see carlos as the baby of the family with 2 or 3 sisters that are college-aged and older, so they were all moved out, even back in minnesota. idk imho, carlos probably has the most normal, traditional and loving family.
logan: his family situation is the most vague out of the 4. we meet his mom, joanna, in the mom episode. god bless the mom episode. and she is a real estate agent! logan is definitely an only child. his parents are both work-aholics, so they are not around. i see his dad as having a medical job, maybe a surgeon, which is why logan wants to be a doctor so bad. i think his dad holds very high expectations for him regarding academics and whatnot. like "son 'a' is for AVERAGE so i expect you to get them." yadda yadda.
and yeah thx for reading. lmk if you guys have any other headcanons

Paige and Azzi are very Rewrite the Stars Coded let me explain.
I feel like Pazzi is one of those situations where Paige fell first and Azzi eventually fell harder so I feel like the first verse is from Paige’s perspective.
You know I want you
It's not a secret I try to hide (hence Paige not being very secretive with the way she looks and acts around Azzi etc.)
I know you want me
So don't keep sayin' our hands are tied
You claim it's not in the cards
And fate is pullin' you miles away
And out of reach from me (I feel like it has to do with how they first lived far away when they met in U16. Azzi in Maryland and Paige at the time Minnesota)
But you're here in my heart
So who can stop me if I decide
That you're my destiny? (I think when Paige first saw Azzi it could have been love at first sight possibly for Paige)
What if we rewrite the stars?
Say you were made to be mine
Nothing could keep us apart
You'd be the one I was meant to find
It's up to you, and it's up to me
No one can say what we get to be (Hence when the rumors and speculation first started and I don’t think at least now; Paige doesn’t care what people will say abt them)
So why don't we rewrite the stars?
Maybe the world could be ours
Tonight
The second verse is from Azzi’s perspective
You think it's easy
You think I don't wanna run to you
But there are mountains
And there are doors that we can't walk through
I know you're wondering why because we're able to be
Just you and me within these walls (Them together in private being themselves)
But when we go outside, you're gonna wake up and see (And then being out in public not being able to show)
That it was hopeless after all
No one can rewrite the stars
How can you say you'll be mine?
Everything keeps us apart (hence again them not being able to show PDA or act like a regular couple 🥺yet)
And I'm not the one you were meant to find
It's not up to you
It's not up to me
When everyone tells us what we can be (People assuming their just friends)
How can we rewrite the stars?
Say that the world can be ours
Tonight
I honestly think Azzi might have been scared to take the whole relationship leap with Paige in the beginning. for fear of backlash and what not. I also think Paige and Azzi had a time when they were trying to figure them as a relationship and themselves out like a “What are we?”. Now look at them they finally took that leap and it’s “Private but not a Secret”
That’s it thanks letting me rant 🫶🏽

To other trans folk:
It feels like I'm usually the oldest trans person around in any given online space (30) so I wanted to give the younger trans folks some grounded perspective post-election season here in the US. For context - I am trans masculine and I'm a lawyer.
First - multiple LGBT people were elected to state legislature positions all over the country - even in the deep south. Georgia, Iowa, etc. We've got representation in our state legislatures. People voted for LGBT people, and we can build on that.
Second - there are many states actively protecting our civil rights. Marriage, protection from discrimination, state assistance with gender affirming care, protections for trans youth, etc. Oregon, California, Washington, Minnesota, Colorado, Hawaii etc. There are many places for us to go that will protect us and give us quality of life.
Third - even outside of these outspoken states, life goes on for queer people. I lived in Kentucky and got the best gender affirming care of my life DURING a trump administration. I currently live in Alaska and I've found so much acceptance and love here from a vibrant, loud, close-knit queer community. We are everywhere, and we have community everywhere.
Take a deep breath, everything is going to be okay. Really, it is.
If you have anything you want to ask, don't be afraid to ask me.

xdh + soft intimacy 💭💫
i'm not god's strongest soldier. i need fluff too.
cw: disgustingly sweet fluff, suggestive for jungsu, junhan and jooyeon, biting in jooyeon's, 1 little gross comment in ode's.
gunil
soft slaps on the ass.
drying your hair for you <3333333
getting ready for bed together. just being side by side with him in parallel play fashion while you put on your skincare, brush your teeth, etc.
if he's done sooner than you are, his arms are around your waist and his chin is on your shoulder, just holding onto you while you finish getting ready to finally join him under the covers and cuddle until you fall asleep
wearing soft, comfy pyjamas to bed every night. he might have even got you a matching set :-( or maybe he bought a single set and gave you the shirt so you're literally wearing the same pyjamas :-(
likes to wear said shirt to bed when you're away </3
jungsu
taking showers together !!
it doesn't even have to go the sexual route (although sometimes it does), only washing up and helping each other with gentle touches is more than enough.
would know your favorite shower temperature by heart :-) my loveliest.
would take your shampoo and wash your hair soooo gently, massaging your scalp .. if you have any tangles, he'll take the conditioner and slowly go through them.
but as much as he loves taking care of you, he loves being taken care of.
wash his hair with the fancy hair treatment shampoo, massage his scalp, make sure none of the suds fall too close to his eyes. he melts every time.
when it comes to washing your bodies, this is where the danger is at. sometimes you'll get too touchy for it to be .. sfw .. but! most of the time it's just soooooo tender.
body wash suds everywhere, hands everywhere, the occasional tickle and/or pinch..
also, if he was alone and he missed you for whatever reason, he'd steal your body wash so he can try and curb the longing :-( it never worked.
jiseok
looklooklook. sciency booky boy. if you're in uni he's coming with you to wherever you go to study.
he knows practicing guitar might make you lose your focus, so he likes to read or look into science thingies!!
baby likes being close to you and no matter how different your lifestyles might be, he likes to be included :-)
won't let you overwork yourself though.
if you're in public, he'll gently pull you out of your bubble and suggest you go eat something, take a walk, whatever.
though if you're home, he can be more affectionate. he'll come behind you and massage your scalp, run his hands along your body and go baby, let's rest a little, yeah? i have snacks ready for you!!!
if you end up dozing off beside him on the couch he'll nearly pull a muscle trying to get a blanket without waking you up. you wake up because of the jostling and he's actually a little relieved tbh.
will go c'mon, let's nap in a bed. we don't want your neck to be stiff in class tomorrow :-(

then you often end up saving money because you simply forgot about shopping lmaooo
on a softer note, you'd would window shop through the internet, falling into rabbit holes. when you realise, you're looking into real state in minnesota or baby shoes.
even though those seem funny and really far away, your hearts grow a little warmer <3

idk personally i love i adore boys that are not afraid to be vulnerable.
okay, when the pair of you were still too fresh, too shaky, jun would be more reserved and think he'd be bothering you.
when the relationship gets established/stable though, he would get clingier, softer, coming to you with his worries, leaving you to pet his hair and reassure him :-(
when taking a nap he'll cuddle up to you, head under your chin and making himself as small as possible, and it's so endearing to see your lanky boyfie trying to be tiny so he can be babied and cooed at .. little does he know you'd do that to him even if he was 3m tall.
now, sex wise: when he feels vulnerable and in need of affection, he might go 🥺 could you. uh. lead tonight 🥺 and he'd be theeeee softest warmest loveliest little sub

Hi there! I have not interacted much in the Hatchetfield fandom, but I've talked endlessly about Hatchetfield in the @blinkysrewatchparty discord server. My name is Egg and I have a problem. I'm obsessed with a side character. A side character named Karen Chasity.
Below is most of the contents of what is a five page document about how I interpret her as a character. A lot of it is headcanon, because we simply don't have enough information about her. Again, I have a problem. Enjoy.
My Karen Chasity Problem: How I approach Karen as a character. (SFW EDITION kinda.)
[Disclaimer: Within this document I discuss Karen’s interaction with characters such as Girl Jeri(from now on referred to as Jeri), Detective Shapiro (NPMD), and Doug(Mariah’s cop from TGWDLM). At the time of writing, I’ve written Karen in ships with these three, so there will be mention of each briefly, though it is not the main focus.]
Karen's main theme is first and foremost restraint.
To lesser extent there is also repression and control.
She is the most uptight/serious of all the Chasity household. (As evidenced in NPMD, she does not make jokes like Mark, nor does she fly off the handle like Grace)
This is not to say she is completely stone faced, she does have instances where she emotes quite a bit, but (in my opinion) it feels exaggerated for comedic effect (because it's a comedy musical/scene where her dang daughter is breaking apart)
Her conversation with just Mark about her concerns with Grace not acting her usual self says a lot here
She is obviously someone who cares for her loved ones, though she may not bring up those concerns with the person in question. She is caring, in a quiet way. In NPMD there is a time skip between Dirty Girl to Max's death to Grace waking up after Richie's death. We know that Grace has been acting off for at least that amount of time. This gives Karen a time frame to notice that change in behavior.
NPMD is a blip in the rest of their lives, time wise. I’m interested in the Karen Chasity that isn’t worrying over her daughter, the Karen Chasity that isn’t rife with paranoia during a townwide lockdown.
Karen’s secondary theme is devotion.
She is literally religious.
There is an argument for this if we do take into account the dinner scene with the Chasity household and how she nods along with Mark talking about the Holy Ghost, as well as how quick she checks Grace’s temperature. This is all also said by the above section.
While I choose not to use a character’s… characterization in musical numbers too much, it’s clear that Karen, without her restraint (In Hatchet Town), still cares deeply about her loved ones. Sure, she may be rife with paranoia in that song but she still emphasizes the safety of the children in her part. She still cares, even if in that song it’s far too much.
She gives to others far more than she gets back.
Maybe this entire thing is rendered moot by the above section. This isn’t a formal document, fuck it.
Karen's slight mid-west(?) accent popping out when she talks to Grace
This is more prominent when she tells Grace she's gonna be late to being early for school (emphasis on "oo" noises, elongation and shortening of syllables. Monophthongal [e:] and [o:] present in both minnesota and michigan among other places)
It’s probably because Hatchetfield is placed in Michigan, but no one else does this in the Hatchetfield universe. It could be another thing played up for comedy? I choose to see this as Karen playing up her maternal role. I could headcanon this as her drawing from her own mother?
If we go with this, this could reference back to the headcanon/idea of “Karen’s family was a big influence on herself and despite wanting to move away from that connection, Karen is someone very much from her background.”
The accent itself makes her sound different than from the initial Chasity household scene, maybe it’s just nothing idk.
“...beautiful old house” particularly has her pronouncing the “o” in old and house as more round and wide instead of that tighter “o” later on when she says “school”
Potentially trans-atlantic accent during first Chasity scene in NPMD (the fuck am I saying)
Mark kinda does this too, could be just vocal direction being older film for that more “classic nuclear family” feel
Consistently speaks kind of sing-songy in the show, though I don’t prescribe to that being her natural speaking tone.
(quick aside: you could probably replace Curt and Kim with muppet versions of themselves as the Chasitys and it wouldn’t change anything about the show, it would be funny)
Okay let’s move on from the fucking voice thing
We know very little about the Chasitys aside from Grace, but that’s because she’s appeared the most out of all of them.
Therefore, I am playing fast and loose with how I characterize Karen.
I write her as a queer woman, who has been closeted for a very long time.
So Karen is restrained.
An entire theme with the Chasitys is their repression due to religion. It’s not hard to simply write any of them as extremely closeted because of this.
Therefore, Karen is uptight.
The stressors of maintaining the image of a heterosexual, pure, Christian woman on a day to day basis would grate on anyone, especially if they are queer. Any singular slip up in a community like a church the Chasitys go to, could mean social death.
Karen’s humor is subtle.
She doesn’t outwardly make jokes like Mark, or has unhinged, comedic reactions like Grace. If anything, Karen is the straight man in the comedy of the Chasity household. She is the baseline Mark and Grace work off of, stable and secure.
When writing Karen I tend to make her a little more deadpan than canon. She is such an over the top character in NPMD, it’s hard for me to write that in a believable way. I tend to make characters a little more grounded. If a musical is loud and bright, I’m writing them in a stage play, or a movie.
Because of this, I’m taking that one Smokey the Bear line from Abstinence Camp and saying Karen said that in the most deadpan voice that Grace simply did not realize it was a joke.
Karen has body language tells
We see her wringing her hands together as she walks toward Mark in NPMD, expressing her concern for Grace.
Furthermore, she nods quietly and hums when listening to others(Chasity dinner table conversation, Grace bedroom conversation, etc.)
I like to imagine that while she might be “playing a role” as a mother/church woman/pristine Chasity she still exemplifies some of these bodily tells. Just in a more restrained way. She pulls toward her own body instead of gesturing outward. In NPMD she leans and curls in on herself, to present more demure.
In my own writing, I contrast this with how she acts outside of the context of her church, or with Grace. Because I see her and Mark as mutual beards, as best friends, she is able to drop that facade of a demure housewife and stand straighter(lol) and taller. Her shoulders are not hunched in on themselves, they are pushed back. What we see in NPMD is a role she plays in her day to day, but is not necessarily her authentic self.
Again this is like heavy headcanon and this is also the SFW version of the document sorry guys you have to be at least 18 to get the full context lmao tough shit
Karen is someone who says a lot with her hands(and to an extent, her eyes), Even as someone who may not gesture overtly. She holds them together, points, accents her speech with them. Karen's hands are the way she interacts with the world when she doesn't verbally talk much.
Karen is controlling.
Maybe this feels a little obvious. She is controlling with herself and how she presents herself. She is caught in a web of her own making, and this can extend to who she associates herself with. If this becomes too much it’s horribly unhealthy. It is the fear of her truths coming out that keep her from going too far.
This manifests with how she approaches Jeri at first, and how she starts making packed lunches for Doug and Shapiro. It’s a sliding scale of when control is acceptable.
As well as volunteering for church business and around town. Karen is a busy woman because if she is left idle she doesn’t know what else to do. She does not know how to relax.
Karen is afraid.
Her repression and restraint stem from the fear of ostracization. From her church, her community, and her own family.
While I’m operating on the idea of her and Mark being mutual beards (their marriage being a lavender one) I imagine she is afraid of the way Grace would react if she found out her mother -someone whom Grace obviously looks toward for guidance and help- is queer.
The same goes for her church. She’s presented herself as a heterosexual woman for so long (due to her and Mark’s safety as two queer people coming from conservative families) that she is stuck in that role. She immerses herself in aforementioned church activities and volunteer work to maintain that label, and that level of safety.

Robert Jordan's letter to Locus detailing his illness, treatment, and expected outcomes. He wanted 30 more years. He got what, 1? 2? His stubborn refusal to accept his prognosis fascinates me. It is so utterly raw, so completely human, and so thoroughly irrational.
Dear Locus,
I have been diagnosed with amyloidosis. That is a rare blood disease which affects only 8 people out of a million each year, and those 8 per million are divided among 22 distinct forms of amyloidosis. They are distinct enough that while some have no treatment at all, for the others, the treatment that works on one will have no effect whatsoever on any of the rest. An amyloid is a misshapen or misfolded protein that can be produced by various parts of the body and which may deposit in other parts of the body (nerves or organs) with varying effects. (As a small oddity, amyloids are associated with a wide list of diseases ranging from carpal tunnel syndrome to Alzheimer's. There's no current evidence of cause and effect, and none of these is considered any form of amyloidosis, but the amyloids are always there. So it is entirely possible that research on amyloids may one day lead to cures for Alzheimer's and the Lord knows what else. I've offered to be a literary poster boy for the Mayo Amyloidosis Program, and the May PR Department, at least, seems very interested. Plus, I've discovered a number of fans in various positions at the clinic, so maybe they'll help out.)
Now in my case, what I have is primary amyloidosis with cardiomyapathy. That means that some (only about 5% at present) of my bone marrow is producing amyloids which are depositing in the wall of my heart, causing it to thicken and stiffen. Untreated, it would eventually make my heart unable to function any longer and I would have a median life expectancy of one year from diagnosis. Fortunately, I am set up for treatment, which expands my median life expectancy to four years. This does NOT mean I have four years to live. For those who've forgotten their freshman or pre-freshman (high school or junior high) math, a median means half the numbers fall above that value and half fall below. It is NOT an average.
In any case, I intend to live considerably longer than that. Everybody knows or has heard of someone who was told they had five years to live, only that was twenty years ago and here they guy is, still around and kicking. I mean to beat him. I sat down and figured out how long it would take me to write all of the books I currently have in mind, without adding anything new and without trying rush anything. The figure I came up with was thirty years. Now, I'm fifty-seven, so anyone my age hoping for another thirty years is asking for a fair bit, but I don't care. That is my minimum goal. I am going to finish those books, all of them, and that is that.
My treatment starts in about 2 weeks at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where they have seen and treated more cases like mine than anywhere else in the US. Basically, it boils down to this. They will harvest a good quantity of my bone marrow stem cells from my blood. These aren't the stem cells that have Bush and Cheney in a swivet; they can only grow into bone marrow, and only into my bone marrow at that. Then will follow two days of intense chemotherapy to kill off all of my bone marrow, since there is no way at present to target just the misbehaving 5%. Once this is done, they will re-implant my bmsc to begin rebuilding my bone marrow and immune system, which will of course go south with the bone marrow. Depending on how long it takes me to recuperate sufficiently, 6 to 8 weeks after checking in, I can come home. I will have a fifty-fifty chance of some good result (25% chance of remission; 25% chance of some reduction in amyloid production), a 35-40% chance of no result, and a 10-15% chance of fatality. Believe me, that's a Hell of a lot better than staring down the barrel of a one-year median. If I get less than full remission, my doctor already, she says, has several therapies in mind, though I suspect we will heading into experimental territory. If that is where this takes me, however, so be it. I have thirty more years worth of books to write even if I can keep from thinking of any more, and I don't intend to let this thing get in my way.

Erin Reed at Erin In The Morning:
In an interview with ABC News on Sunday, JD Vance claimed that Minnesota Governor and Harris VP running mate Tim Walz signed a bill allowing the state to kidnap a transgender child if their parents did not approve of their transition. However, the bill Vance referenced actually provides refuge for transgender youth and their parents fleeing unsafe states where their care is criminalized. The legislation contains no provision allowing the state to “kidnap” children when their parents do not support their gender transition. These claims arise from an intentional misinterpretation of a provision that specifically applies to custody disputes between parents in different states. In the interview, Vance sat down with "This Week" co-anchor Jonathan Karl, who pushed back against the claims:
[Karl: “[Trump] said that Tim Walz signed a letter letting the state kidnap children to change their gender, allowing pedophiles to be exempt from crimes… this is not true, this is not remotely true.” Vance: “What President Trump said, Jon, is that Tim Walz has supported taking children from their parents if the parents don't consent to gender reassignment, that is crazy…Tim Walz gets on his high horse about ‘mind your own damn business.’ One way of minding your own damn business, Jon, is to not try to take my children away from me.” Karl: “He has not signed a law allowing the state to kidnap children to change their sexual identity.” Vance: “What I just explained to you I would describe as kidnapping.” Karl: “That’s crazy, come on.”]
The claim that HF 146, also known as the “Trans Refuge Law,” would allow the state to kidnap children stems from a deliberately misleading interpretation of the bill. Terry Schilling, president of the American Principles Project and director of millions of dollars in anti-transgender ads targeting Democrats, pointed to a section of the bill stating that the state can take jurisdiction if a child is “present in the state” and has been unable to obtain gender-affirming healthcare. Deliberate misinterpretations of this clause is the primary source of false claims about the Minnesota law.
What Vance, Schilling, and others fail to mention is that the provision in question applies to Section 518D of Minnesota law, known as the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act. This act, adopted by most states in the U.S., addresses disputes between divorced parents when one parent lives in or moves to a different state, or when multiple states have competing claims to jurisdiction over custody cases. The specific provision highlighted by Schilling and referred to by Trump and Vance states that the state can take “temporary emergency jurisdiction.” This does not equate to taking custody of the child; rather, it allows a judge to hear a case in a custody dispute where one parent resides in a state that criminalizes trans care and the other in a state where such care is legal. Notably, it does not even tell the judge who should be awarded custody, it merely allows a court in Minnesota to hear such a custody dispute.
[...] Most importantly, the claim that Walz supports the state “kidnapping children” from their parents to “trans” them is absolutely false. Walz signed a bill making the state a refuge for transgender people fleeing states that criminalize their care. The bill not only responds to states like Texas and Florida, which have indeed threatened to remove transgender kids from supportive parents, but also to cases where attorneys general attempted to subpoena medical records across state lines, such as when Attorney General Ken Paxton sought medical records from Seattle Children’s Hospital; a similar law protected transgender youth who received care there. Similar protections have also since been extended to abortion patients and providers, who face nearly identical issues.
Appearing on ABC’s This Week on Sunday, JD Vance (R) baselessly claimed that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) signed a bill (HF146) that allow the state to “kidnap children”. The bill in question deals with custody disputes and trans safe refuge.
Interviewer Jonathan Karl called out Vance’s bogus lie with this: “He has not signed a law allowing the state to kidnap children to change their sexual identity.”

Before I post the short story I've been working on, I wanted to introduce some of Ace’s family, since they're going to be featured. I tried to edit it down to the important stuff but if anyone wants to know more just ask.
Solveig Liv Årud/Sylvia Hall, Ace's Mother
Ace's mom Solveig was born in Kapp along with her two brothers, One of her neighbors was a music teacher and taught her to play the Hardanger fiddle. When she was seventeen she became pregnant by one of her neighbor's students but was urged by her neighbor to never tell him or anyone else of the child's parentage. Having had Ace outside of wedlock Solveig faced a lot of social ostracisation. Her sister in law, who was deeply religious judged Solveig for having a child without marrying. A rumor amongst the townspeople was that Ace's father was actually a fossegrim, that Solveig agreed to have a child with in exchange for teaching her to play the fiddle so well. (there is actually a lot to say on how this affected Ace and his view of himself but we don't have time to get into it rn). After a flood made her and her family homeless they emigrated to America in 1920 at the advice of some friends.
Once they arrived in New York Ace became very ill and bedridden causing them to be left behind as the rest of their family continued further up to Minnesota. While Ace was sick Solveig met and later fell in love with a Swedish immigrant named Eric Hall. She married Eric after knowing him for half a year. Solveig had kept Ace close all her life and not really letting her grow up or stand on her own. So he reacted badly to Solveig marrying. Being jealous and being unable to deal with not being her mothers center of attention, making him lash out. After an argument where Solveig slapped Ace for being disrespectful to her stepfather Ace ran away from home. Ace and Solveig have been estranged ever since, both being too stubborn to try to reconcile. After Solveig married Eric she tried very hard to adapt to American culture, Americanizing her name to Sylvia and trying her best to learn English and not speak with an accent. She currently has two children with Eric. Neither them nor Ace know of each other's existence.
Torbjørn Olaug Årud and Lena Årud, Ace's Grandparents
Lena was born in Kapp and Torbjørn was born in the Lofoten area. He traveled down to Toten to live with a family friend after he became orphaned. He later met Lena and they eventually married. They later had 2 sons, the youngest of them dying after moving away as an adult, later they had a daughter they named Solveig. When Solveig became pregnant at seventeen they decided to support her and help her take care of their granddaughter. In the years immediately after Ace was born she and Solveig lived with them before moving into a smaller house on their property. By this time their oldest had married and taken over the main house on the farm and Torbjørn and Lena moved into another small house on the property.
They emigrated to America with the rest of their family in 1920 and went with the rest to Minnesota leaving Solveig and Ace behind. Lena later died in 1922 after becoming sick. Ace does not know this happened.
Info on the art:
Ace is supposed to be a tortoiseshell cat, witch is something that can be seen in her mother and grandmother as well. this is a reference to the fact that tortoiseshells are mostly female. (source)
Her grandfather is supposed to be a Norwegian forest cat.
The implement Solveig is holding is called a Lyster and it is used to fish. Lyster fishing was usually done when it was dark out, using the Lyster to stab the fish. it was banned in the 1860 but was most likely still practiced afterwards. Today it has become completely illegal. The fish in the bucket are trout, a fish that was commonly caught with a Lyster. (source) Here is a painting depicting it.
I apologize for any spelling mistakes or weird wording, i try my best to read though these before i post them but some mistakes often slip through.

Such a pretty blue 1867 (reno'd 1987) Victorian in Anoka, Minnesota has some lovely architectural features, and is currently a B&B, b/c it's a large enough home. 7bds, 7ba, $900K.
Gorgeous wraparound lemonade porch. Isn't that a cute idea- hanging pretty umbrellas upside down, just ordinary umbrellas.
Welcoming main entrance hall is a beautiful pastel blue and has the original railing.
Cozy sitting room for guests.
Nice dining room, but I'm not diggin' the gold walls. I never cared for that mustard color. I kind of like the pastel blue theme.
They made this a billiard room for guests. I love that table, I wonder if it conveys.
And, this is one of the architectural features I mentioned. Isn't this little sun room so super cute?
Not at all thrilled with the kitchen redo, but judging by the odd shape, they retained the original footprint, so you could do something with it.
Since this is a business it has to have an office. This room has a nice fireplace.
Each room was given its own bath during the reno, so that each guest gets a suite.
Some have the tub in the room. The rooms are large and filled with light, though.
The owner has a separate residence apart from the main house.
It's nice, has 2bds, 2ba, but I don't think I'd want to live in it.
Large deck on the back, you can see that there's an entrance to the owner's apt. addition.
1.32 acres of property.
Very large 3 car garage, plus a shed.
