Gabi Braun haters are actually the most annoying people in this damn fandom because they cannot go five seconds without reminding you that they hate her and make fun of you for liking her all because she killed a fictional teenager they simp for.
And they’re so fucking mean about it too. I do not give a shit who you like or dislike just leave me alone.

the irritating sound of peter’s voice was making miguel pinching the bridge of his nose for the millionth time. imaginary steam like a train coming out from his ears. face red of frustration. internally swearing to the point of almost speaking aloud.
you recognize that face in a heartbeat. it happens almost everyday at work because some employees seem to stubborn or screw up whatever they are working on. it adds more anger and stress to your boss, or should say, husband. the company don’t know of your marriage with miguel or that you two have a daughter. for the sake of your job, you and miguel established an agreement to keep this relationship a secret. imagine working for your boss who is also your husband and you’re his assistant. yeah, that would turn many heads immediately.
luckily, you’ve been hiding it well for three years.
you decide to hate, or dislike each other as a method to conceal your relationship. always bickering when coworkers are present. during meetings, lunch, happy hours, in the hallways.
but in private? oh you two are love birds. cute kisses, or sometimes heavy makeout sessions which leads to much more interesting things. cuddling or simply embracing each other for comfort, especially if either of you are stressed out. discussing your daughter’s hobbies, school, soccer and ballet practices. plan dates that you two would go on later.
just two people utterly in love with each other.
although, it sucks to hide it during work but at least you see each other everyday. acting like enemies, putting on a show to convince people. it’s been working for three years. no one has suspected, well some do but not everyone.
“peter, i swear — if you keep saying that one more, i’m going to throw you out the room.” miguel mumbled under his breath, rubbing the temples of his forehead with a hand.
“what! i’m just saying that maybe—“
before the man could continue his sentence, a loud slam on the desk makes everyone jerk in their seats. you don’t, this isn’t new to you.
“¡ya cállete! everyone out!” miguel shouts.
to not piss of the boss even more, everyone scurries out the meeting room with fear illustrated on their faces. you simply sit there with folded arms, staring at your grumpy husband with an unimpressed look. of course when he means everyone gone, you stay.
once everyone’s out the room and the blinds closed, you finally speak. “well, that went well.”
a scoff escapes his lips. he loves your sarcasm, one of his favorite traits about you. the only person he could tolerate their sarcasm.
“ese pinche mamón doesn’t pay attention to what i say.” he pinched his nose again. “sometimes i wonder why i even hired him in the first place.”
you huff, getting up from your seat and walking towards him. “he’s your best friend, that’s why.” you stand behind him and gently wrap your arms around his bulky shoulders, chin resting on top of his head.
miguel immediately relaxes in your touch, slouching a bit in his chair. “best friend, sure.” he huffs, rolling his eyes. “still a pain in the ass.”
“that’s how best friends are, whether you like to admit he’s your bestie or not.” you give him a light, comforting squeeze on the shoulders.
a low sigh spills from his lips. “pues si, i guess…”
“but hey…” you unwrap your arms and turn his chair around so he’s facing you. “let’s forget about work and focus on gabi’s ballet recital tonight, ¿vale?” you cup his face, your whole world in your palms.
the frustration vanishes from his face and is replaced with adoration the moment he sees your face, ultimately melting under your touch. “sí, she’s going to be amazing tonight.” his beefy arms wrap around your waist, gently pulling you closer towards him so there isn’t much space between you.
a soft smile forms on your face. “she will be. she’s been practicing for weeks now and she’s so excited about it. also her soccer game on saturday, too.” your thumbs caress his cheeks with such tenderness.
“active girl, como su mamá.” he mirrors your smile, gazing at you with pure adoration. broad hands gently squeezing your sides.
you scoff, rolling your eyes playfully. “ay si, working for her dad keeps me very active.” lots of sarcasm which ends with those heavenly chuckles of your husband that you love so dearly.
“and i tend to keep her mom active.” his hands squeeze your sides again in a teasing manner, earning himself a giggle that is music to his ears. “the recital is at 6:30, ¿sí?”
“mhm. after i get off, i’m picking her up from school and then help her get ready. make sure you leave on time, remember last time?” you shoot him a light glare, quirking a brow.
you can see the guilt forming on his face as flashbacks of last time when he barely made it out the door and was practically sweating when he entered the ballet studio consumes his mind. luckily he managed to get there right when the recital started. you forced him to take a good shower after.
“no te procupes, mi alma. i promise to be out way beforehand.” he smiles reassuringly.
“you better or your dumbass is sleeping on the couch.” you threaten playfully but you’re being serious and miguel knows that fairly well.
the man chuckles, nodding. “si, señora.”
you two smile at each other before leaning closer and collide lips in a passionate kiss. one of the very few moments when you can be intimate. to be a married couple without any worries or prying eyes.
“okay, i gotta go get gabi now.” you say as you break away from the kiss, hands still cupping his face. “see you later? and don’t be late.” you hold on a finger as a warning, lightly glaring at him once again.
he softly chuckles, gently grabbing your hand and bringing it up to his lips to planet a soft kiss on the back of it. “lo prometo, mi reina.”
a soft smile forms on your face. “te amo.” you plant a quick kiss on his lips before moving out of his hold.
“te amo más.” miguel whispers before gently swatting your ass as you walk away, the cheeky action making you smile and roll your eyes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀𓂃 ୨ ₊ 𓂃 ౨ৎ   𓂃 ₊ ୧   𓂃
“is papí gonna show up on time, mamá?” your adorable nine-year-old daughter asks, looking up at you through the mirror as you brush her hair.
“sí, mi cielo. papí promised this time he’ll be out the door way before this time.” grabbing a hair tie from the drawer, you gently pick all of her hair and make a ponytail before turning it into a bun.
the little girl smiles. “remember how sweaty he was when he ran inside? he was so stinky!” she giggles.
you giggle as well, remembering exactly how stinky miguel smelt and you shoving him into the shower the minute you got home that night.
“he was very stinky.” after clipping her baby pink bow on her head, you spray hairspray to seal the bun. “he won’t be stinky this time, that’s for sure.”
the two of you continue giggling before the sound of the front door closing makes you stop. gabriella rushes out of the bathroom and runs down the hallway to greet her father with much excitement. you quickly follow her, eager to see your husband.
“papí!” gabriella squeals as she runs up to her father with a big smile and jumps into his arms so abruptly, which he quickly catches her.
he chuckles wholeheartedly. “hola, mi princesa.”
“you’re home early! yay!” the little girl exclaims.
“sí, princesa. i wanted to come home early so mamá and i can take you to your recital.” he smiles.
“yay! at least you’re not stinky.” she fakes a disgusted face, fanning her face to pretend he smells like he was last time.
a little frown settles on his face, shifting his gaze from his daughter to you. you simply shrug with an innocent smile. miguel shakes his head, smiling.
“no, i’m perfectly clean.” he gazes switched back to gabriella. “look at you, a ballerina princess.”
the little girl giggles, twirling in her puffy baby pink tutu. “sí! i’m the princess and mamá is the queen.” she walks back to you, grabbing your hand.
the compliment melts your heart. your daughter is utterly adorable. your precious baby.
“and you’re the king, papí!” she points at miguel.
the both of you laugh.
“sí, princesa. we’re one happy royal family,” miguel walks up to you. “y tú mamá es la reina de mi vida.” gently cupping your face, he captures your lips in a soft kiss that you happily accept and reciprocate.
his words were just a smudge cheesy but they make your heart flutter. such a romantic dork.
“tonto.” you whisper, making him smile.
“no kissing! save that for later! it’s recital time!”
the sass in your child’s tone makes you and miguel laugh. she definitely gets it from you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀𓂃 ୨ ₊ 𓂃 ౨ৎ   𓂃 ₊ ୧   𓂃
the ballet recital was a success. gabriella did an amazing performance, as well as the other children. you and miguel are proud of your little girl. you went to a diner afterwards and treat her with ice cream of her favorite flavor. now looking forward to the soccer game on saturday. but, you have to deal with work before you could indulge in that.
miguel is in the middle of a meeting when you wander in the room with a file on your hands prepared to give him. you notice his eyes lighting up as soon as you enter, making you almost smile but immediately stop yourself from others noticing.
just as you hand him the file, jessica stops speaking whatever she’s discussing and looks at you two with a skeptical yet unimpressed look.
“forgive me for stopping but come on, you two. just admit you guys are together.”
the meeting room went silent, the statement lingering in the air. everyone turns and face you both with anticipation, waiting for your answer.
well, shit.
you and miguel share a worrying glance before he rises from his seat. a bulky arm sneaks around your waist, gently pulling you closer towards him.
“yes, we’re together.” he states, feeling prideful.
you watch jaws drop and eyes wide in surprise. others, like jess, don’t seem surprise but rather relieved the suspicion is gone and truth revealed.
“we’re married.” you hold up your left hand and show off your big ass diamond ring.
some gasps but mostly aww’s fill the room.
“and we have a daughter.” miguel adds.
now that shocked everyone.

Tr: "It is completely valid to be able to understand the parallels and purpose of Gabi and still not like her. I am tired of reading “if you don’t like her you don’t understand aot” “she’s a parrallel to Eren” “she’s a brainwashed kid” okay? Good job for understanding the story. Yes Gabi’s character development is refreshing, and one of the few times we see someone on the Marleyan side recognize that Eldians are just normal people which gives the audience the feeling of justice. However, at the end of the day. Liking or disliking a character IS A CHOICE. There are well written characters with backstories example: Shadis, Grisha, even Zeke, Bertoldt BUT they are not heavily endorsed like the other characters. Why? Because we as the fandom do not endorse them like we endorse our favorites. Well written does not equate to being likeable. It just means they are well written. Like who you like. Support who you support. Don’t try to get people to like or dislike your favorite. Thank you."

i’m the red flag question anon! i have no intention to start a fight so just tell me if you’ve had enough… (also this has nothing to do with gabi or levi hate, i love them both) i don’t understand your point about art. yes it does engender empathy and understanding, but it doesn’t morally bind us the same way real life does, because it’s fiction. if you play monopoly with friends, do you feel bad about making them go bankrupt? no, it’s fun. characters are the same in my opinion. it’s a game of imagination. you’re allowed to not feel the need to protect a child because no child is actually harmed, and it doesn’t say anything about your empathy or lack of empathy. you’re allowed to dislike a character just because you don’t like their haircut, you don’t even need a better reason than that, it’s fiction, it doesn’t hurt anyone. you can feel empathy and understanding for a character who does bad things because they’re interesting, and it doesn’t mean you want to do the same as they do. you can dislike a character even if they’re kind without disliking kindness. i understand that if people actively hate on gabi or levi and come pour their hate on a blog that doesn’t, it’s rude. but disliking levi isn’t enough to make someone cynical. nobody has an obligation to like him just because he is defined by compassion and kindness. it’s not a moral flaw to dislike a morally good character. i agree that the way we respond to characters says a lot about who we are as people, but i don’t think it’s in a linear way. you don’t respond to characters exactly the same way you would respond to a person. it shows what interests and questions you rather than how you act and what your qualities are as a person
I disagree. Certainly, you can dislike a character for any number of shallow and ultimately meritless reasons. But then the question is, why. Why would someone actively dislike or hate a character for something as shallow as what they look like? I'm not talking about general disinterest or ambivalence, I'm talking about conscious dislike and hate that manifests in negative discourse about that character online. It says something about the person, what the reasons are for their dislike and hate. And when that dislike turns to active aggression against fans, when it leads to the active harassment of people, then it becomes evident to me that it's driven by something deeper than some simple, surface level dislike based on shallow prejudice. If someone is deliberately seeking out fan blogs of a character they supposedly dislike or hate and sending that person hate messages about said character, that goes beyond being "rude" and turns into bullying, which I shouldn't need to explain, if you're bullying someone online and on social media, it's a safe bet to assume you would do the same to people in real life. It speaks volumes about a person's character, that they would harass and actively attempt to antagonize someone for liking a specific character. I've never seen anyone offer a legitimate reason for hating Levi that went beyond the most petty and shallow of reasons, i.e. Levi is now a "cripple", Levi lost in some popularity poll to Eren, what a loser, Levi is short and ugly, etc, etc... These are absurd reasons for hating anyone, and if they're to be taken at face value, speak to a kind of character totally lacking in empathy and compassion. They're attacks based on arbitrary characteristics, and the consistent and constant utilization of them is routinely and obviously employed by certain individuals in an attempt to make fans of Levi miserable and to destroy any chance of actual enjoyment they might find in engaging with the fandom. Most attacks on Levi are disingenuous and only rooted in the desire to make people in real life unhappy. However, if someone is genuinely willing to be so judgmental toward anyone for something so meaningless, fictional or otherwise, if they truly believe what they say, that they find Levi to somehow now be "lesser" because he ended up in a wheelchair, for example, or because he's short, or because he isn't charismatic, etc, etc... if they truly believe that, then I wonder what exactly would recommend them in real life as a good friend or person to want to associate with? So either you have people attacking Levi for things they don't actually hold against him, but like to use as ammunition against his fans with the sole aim of ruining their day and fandom experience, or you have people who genuinely believe it's legitimate to dislike or hate someone based on something as meaningless and arbitrary as their physical appearance or lack of outgoing personality, in which case, you have someone who's clearly deeply prejudiced and shallow in mind, and again, there's nothing to recommend them as a person anyone would want to know or associate with in reality.
And then you have a third option, which is people who, if they genuinely dislike or hate Levi for who he actually is as a character, meaning a character defined by and driven by empathy, then you're dealing with something more malicious still. Someone who is genuinely turned off by and hostile toward a character for being a good person. Someone who dislikes or despises what Levi represents within the narrative of the story itself. And anyone who feels that way about Levi should probably engage in some self-reflection and ask themselves why they're so turned off by and even threatened by a character who only wants to help people. I don't agree with you at all that our responses to fictional characters don't in any way indicate or reflect who we are in real life or how we might treat others in real life. People expose their biases all the time while discussing fictional characters and works of fiction. They expose their inner feelings and subconscious inclinations. If someone thinks it's okay to badmouth Levi for being disabled, chances are, that person is also likely to mistreat a disabled person in real life, consciously or not. If someone thinks it's okay to badmouth or victim blame a character for being abused, then chances are that person will do the same to a real life victim of abuse, again, consciously or not. Oftentimes, these people, while speaking so ill of fictional characters, are completely unaware of how it sounds and what it exposes about themselves, and it's indicative of a general lack of awareness on their part, which is very much a real life character flaw which doubtless spills over into their everyday, actual comportment. Someone so totally lacking in introspection is, generally, a very toxic person to be around. And those sorts of inclinations and prejudices and views, whether you want to admit it or not, can have very real world consequences. How you treat people online can have very real world consequences.
I don't think many Levi haters actually fall under this last category. I think most Levi haters are just assholes who are insecure and take that insecurity out on other people. But it still says plenty about them, that they do. They're okay with harassing other people and trying to ruin their day, simply for liking a certain character that they've deemed unworthy, for whatever inane reason they come up with. It shows them to be absurdly insecure, shallow and petty people. And if their reasoning is actually rooted in truth, and not simply an expression of some shallow prejudice, but an actual, substantial criticism of Levi's character, in particular, if they really believe Levi to be a fundamentally unlikable or repulsive character, based on his core characteristics, then, yes, they prove themselves to be deeply cynical and hateful human beings. Because why the hell would anyone hate Levi for being a good person, if they themselves aren't a bad person?
So either you "hate" Levi, or engage in hateful rhetoric about him because you simply feel insecure about yourself and are threatened by his popularity, because you enjoy making other people unhappy, or because you really are just that stupid and shallow, that you think hating someone for their looks is legit. Or because everything Levi stands for, compassion, kindness, empathy, nonjudgmentalism, grates against your own core characteristics and causes you to rebel against him. In either instance, like I said before, you would have to be an actual asshole to qualify for any of these scenarios.

@pathsbros there is a huge difference between being upset over their favorite character dying and the toxic actions sonofthesaiyans does just because Sasha got killed by Gabi. Also I don’t think the narrative ever justified how Marley treated the Eldians, quite the opposite because it is saying that Eren wouldn’t have felt justified in doing the Rumbling if it wasn’t for the persecution of the Eldians. But you are also ignoring that I tagged this post Gabi Haters dni (meaning don’t interact). I don’t care if someone is upset if Sasha died, I am upset that she died, and I don’t care if someone doesn’t dislike Gabi. But sonofthesaiyans lets his hatred of Gabi consume him to a very unhealthy manner and takes it out on people who don’t agree with him. That is not a healthy way to take part in fandom.
I think that the most disgusting thing about sonofthesaiyans is that he outright says that Sasha’s father doesn’t love her enough because he forgave Gabi. He has no right to tell a grieving father that he didn’t love his daughter enough because he didn’t slice open the throat of a brainwashed child. Killing Gabi is not going to bring Sasha back, the world of Attack on Titan doesn’t work like that. Gabi is not the true evil of Attack on Titan, it is corrupt governments like Marley who were ok with mistreating people and using them like weapons. But then again he is the dumb ass who thinks that an anti fascist series like Attack on Titan is pro fascist just because it shows fascist governments in it, so he might actually believe that killing Gabi could bring Sasha back. He probably hates Artur Braus because he is everything that he can never be, a good and honorable man.

Here are some incorrect quotes for our favorite little child soldiers and brainwashed officers because I love them and also they're a family! Hell yeah!
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Commander Magath: Some of you may die, but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Commander Magath: Let me show you a picture from last night that really upset me
Gabi: Okay, but in my defense, Falco bet me 50 cents I couldn’t drink all that shampoo.
Commander Magath: That’s not what I wanted to- you drank SHAMPOO?!
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Commander Magath: Please bring home PURIFIED water with NO minerals added for taste
Gabi: We got spring water
Commander Magath: NO.
Falco: with EXTRA minerals
Gabi: it's like licking a stalagmite
Commander Magath: DON'T COME HOME.
Falco: Mmmmm cave water
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Commander Magath: Fool me once, I’m gonna kill you
Zeke, 500000 miles away from there, waking up in a cold sweat: I am in trouble
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Commander Magath: I love you kids, you're the best thing that's happened to me.
Gabi: We're the best thing that's ever happened to you?
Commander Magath: Yes!
Falco: I'm starting to feel a little sorry for you.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Commander Magath: We need a distraction.
Gabi: Is anyone here good at jumping up and down and making weird noises?
Falco, whispering: My time has come.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Commander Magath: Why is Porco so sad?
Zeke: He took one of those “Which Character Are You?” quizzes
Commander Magath: And...?
Zeke: He got Reiner.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Commander Magath: Alright team, let's try this out. Is stabbing someone immoral?
Zeke: Not if they consent to it.
Porco: Depends who you’re stabbing.
Reiner: YES?!?

Zeke: On a scale from “damn Daniel” to “fre sha vaca do”, how are you feeling?
Pieck: In between “it’s an avocado, thanks” and “how did you defeat Captain America”, but as a solid answer I would say “I don’t need a degree to be a clothing hanger”. How about you, Porco?
Porco: Probably “road work ahead”.
Reiner: I speak many languages, and this is none of them.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Zeke: There is no future. there is no past. do you see? Time is simultaneous, an intricately structured jewel that humans insist on viewing one edge at a time, when the whole design is visible in every facet.
Pieck:
Porco:
Reiner:
Everyone Else At Zeke’s Surprise Birthday Party:
Pieck: All I asked was if you wanted to cut your birthday cake first.

Falco: What time is it?
Gabi: I don’t know; pass me that saxophone and we’ll find out
Gabi: *Plays sax loudly and extremely out of tune*
Reiner: WHO THE FUCK IS PLAYING THE SAXOPHONE AT TWO IN THE MORNING
Gabi: It’s 2 am
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Reiner: Gabi, keep an eye on Falco today. He's going to say something to the wrong person and get punched.
Gabi: Sure, I’d love to see Falco get punched.
Reiner: Try again.
Gabi, sighing: I will stop Falco from getting punched.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Annie: I think we're missing something.
Marcel: Teamwork?
Bertholt: Cohesion?
Reiner: A general sense of what we’re doing?
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Reiner: You know those things will kill you, right?
Porco, pouring another glass of whiskey: That’s the point.
Zeke, smoking a cigarette: We’re trying to speed up the process.
Pieck: *Nods while eating raw cookie dough*
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Bonus with our favorite knifey fidget spinner:
Zeke: Am I going too far?
Levi: No, no, no. You went too far about seven hours ago. Now you're going to prison.
Zeke: I was arrested for being too cool.
Levi: The charges were dropped due to a lack of supporting evidence.

Attack on Prime: Incorrect Quotes
(This was something I felt like I should’ve done a while back which sounds like fun) Spoilers/Link to story: https://archiveofourown.org/works/36583423/chapters/91243426
Hanji: I am trying to talk to my friends! *turns to Megatron* Hey, Megatron, we’re friends now, right?
Megatron: Frag off.
Hanji, giving off a subtly unhinged, smile: The best!
================
Levi: Do you ever want to talk about your emotions, Prime?
Optimus: No.
Hanji, raising her hand: I do!
Levi: I know, Four-eyes.
Hanji: I’m sad.
Levi: I know, Four-eyes.
======================
Hanji: Name one way to be nice to people.
Megatron: Don’t kill them.
Hanji: Setting the bar a little low, but I’ll allow it.
=======================
Hanji to Megatron: I’ve decided to see your threats against my life as flirting.
Megatron pulls out sword, only for Optimus to tackle him to the ground.
====================
*Optimus, giving off a small smile*
Connie: Optimus, you’re smiling.
Sasha: It’s weird, like seeing a turtle out of it’s shell.
===================
Levi to Megatron: Now, do take this the wrong way, but I can’t wait for you to leave.
===================
Hanji: Optimus, what’s the best way to get revenge on my enemies?
Optimus: The best revenge is living with kindness and moving on.
Hanji glances over at Megatron: Megatron?
*Megatron slams a gun on the table*
======================
Zeke (who does not like Megatron despite their alliance): See you in hell.
Megatron, smirking: Are you asking to court me? If so, I accept.
=======================
Hanji: Delaying death is Megatron’s favorite hobby.
================
Armin: Why is this god-forsaken hole worth dying for?
Megatron: Don’t ask me. You’re the ones that are going to be dying.
=================
Mikasa: Megatron, you...saved me?
Megatron: You are the only one that I respect.
===================
Levi: You’re really campaigning for asshole of the year, aren’t you?
Megatron: As defending champion, are you nervous?
=====================
*Megatron addressing the Warrior Cadets*: Any questions?
Gabi, raising her hand: Yeah, ever killed anyone with a spoon?
Megatron: No, but I am seriously considering it.
=======================
Optimus: I’ve only had the Survey Corps for a day and a half, but if anything happens to them, I will kill everyone in this room and then myself.
Megatron: Awfully violent eulogy, Prime.
=====================
Megatron: I have a plan.
Optimus: Your last plan was murder.
==================
Hanji: You are my best friend, and i would do anything for you.
Optimus: I want you to eat three meals a day and maintain a proper sleep schedule.
Hanji: Absolutely not.
(This scenario can also work vice versa, with Hanji scolding Optimus.)
==========================
Hanji to the Scouts: I’ve figured out a foolproof way to determine if someone’s evil.
Jean: And that is?
Hanji: If they dislike Optimus, they’re evil.
Eren: Yeah, that makes sense.
==========================
Megatron to Zeke: What’s the word for that infestation of tiny creatures over there?
*Zeke stares at Megatron in disbelief*: Those are children. That’s a school.
=======================
Optimus: Remember when you didn’t solve all of your problems with murder?
Megatron: Stop romanticizing the past.
==========================
Eren: I wasn’t injured. I was lightly stabbed.
Optimus: I’m sorry, YOU WERE STABBED?!
Eren: Lightly stabbed. I didn’t want to frighten you.
======================
Megatron: Could you be any more annoying?
Hanji grinning with delight: Easily.
===============
Levi: God, give me patience.
Optimus: I believe the term is ‘give me strength.’
Levi: If God gave me more strength, Buckethead would be dead.
========================
Optimus: Take care of yourself, Eren.
Eren: Optimus, I’m fine. I’m your student.
Optimus: And that is why I am saying it.
========================
Megatron: Don’t worry, I have a few weapons up my sleeve.
Rod Reiss: You mean ‘tricks’?
Historia, Eren, and Kenny: He does not!
Megatron, pulling out his sword: I do not.
=======================
Optimus: I have a medical condition. It is ‘caring too much’ and it’s incurable.
========================
Levi: Before I do anything, I’d ask myself: “Would Buckethead do the exact same thing?” If the answer’s yes, then I don’t do it.
(This was fun. Megatron is definitely the easier one to associate the incorrect quotes with because he’s such an asshole. As the story progresses again in December, I’m going to continue this because they’ll be more information to work with. But if you guys have your own ideas for incorrect quotes, I’d be happy to read it.)

Jean and Connie should have become Yeagerists (a 〜very〜 unpopular opinion)
Disclaimer: contains ending spoilers so anime-only nation proceed with caution
Warnings: mentions of death and genocide; obscene language (?)
a/n: it's not a hatepost on the ending or anything. Jean and Connie are my faves in the Survey Corp so I want to explore some of the ending options with their characters
Tumblr media
Many people say that chapter 123 was the last good chapter in SnK and it started going downhill from that. I personally didn’t mind the last chapters (hell, I still haven’t formed an opinion about the ending). And I didn’t seem to notice the “downgrade” in content quality until I’ve reread chapters 128 and 129 — the whole battle of the port. I’m referring to the murder of Daz and Samuel and how conflicted Connie and Armin felt about that.
Tumblr media
On my first reading this moment literally brought me to tears. How much has changed in those 4 years, how black-and-white it all was in the beginning and how people who used to be comrades are now forced to be at each other’s throats.
Shout-out to Isayama-sensei for including a flashback with Bertolt. Although Bertolt’s words here are not stated, it’s implied that it’s “someone has to get this blood on their hands”
Tumblr media
Connie is also a brave soul for having it in him to kill his former comrades. (my poor baby has suffered so much already)
But as I’m reading this now… It seems so lackluster to me from a dramatic standpoint. I get why it’s hard for Connie and Armin and the murder felt so emotional because I’ve known their characters for so long and empathized with them. In short, it was hard for me to read because it was also hard for the characters to do.
But come to think of it, why should I feel sad about the death of Daz and Samuel? They don’t have any outstanding personalities apart from Daz being a scaredy-cat. The last time I saw them was during the Battle of Trost, not to mention flashbacks in the Clash of Titans Arc. Hell, even in the official Encyclopedia Samuel was erroneously stated to be dead. And after more than 100 chapters they bring those characters back just to kill them off and then expect me to care?
So I was thinking — how to make it more dramatic? An idea came to me. Now hear me out because it would (kinda?) make sense in the end.
*deep breath in* Jean and Connie should have joined Yeagerists. I think it makes sense from a motivational standpoint. Because — let’s face it — all of the Alliance members have their reasons to stop Eren and the Rumbling.
☆ For Reiner, Annie, Pieck, Falco, Gabi, Magath and Onyankopon it’s to protect their homeland and their loved ones from being trampled to death.
☆ For Mikasa and Armin it’s to bring Eren back home.
☆ For Hange it’s to stop the meaningless genocide.
☆ For Levi it’s not to stop the Rumbling per se but to kill Zeke and through his death give the meaning to the lives of his comrades that were sacrificed (at least that’s what I understood from chapter 112 don’t @ me)
But when it comes to Jean and Connie there’s no clear motif behind their actions. Why did they join the Alliance in the first place?
You know, for a story that’s built around the idea that there is no good or evil, the ending sure does come off as being lopsided when all of the main characters that we care about unite against the forces of evil. No matter how main of the character Eren is, he is not enough to tip the scale and make the viewers cheer for his victory. Not to mention Floch — I know Isayama-sensei stated that he made Floch into a Yeagerist just to create some opposition against the Alliance — but considering how disliked Floch was even in the Return to Shiganshina Arc, it’s still not looking good for Yeagerists.
Why not 〜increase the tension〜 and have Jean and Connie join the Yeagerists?
First of all, out of the whole Eren’s friend group Jeanis the only person to question Eren’s true motives. Even his best friends couldn’t come to the conclusion that it was unusual for Eren to act like this. And Jean was right in the end.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The activation of the Rumbling is basically the point of no return. If before Paradis had a small chance at ending the cycle of hatred between Eldians and other nations and mending the relationships — now it is hopeless.
Tumblr media
Jean is not driven by idealistic motives like Armin or Hange. The Rumbling leaves no other options — either the outer world is destroyed and the Paradisians live in prosperity or the Alliance stops the Rumbling which would spell the end for the Island. It’s in Jean’s egoistic (and kinda cowardly) nature to question Alliance’s plan. Jean doubts that they even have a chance at stopping Eren. And that’s true. It was a fucking miracle that the Alliance stopped the Rumbling with NO casualties (Hange doesn’t count they died before the Battle of Heaven and Earth).
Jean acts as the voice of reason. His sense of self-preservation doesn’t allow him to be with a group that is being hunted down and join them on their suicidal mission.
But then the thought of Marco convinced Jean to agree to the Alliance’s plan.
“You know... I wished I could've stayed cooped up in my room, ears shut... But... If I had... The burnt ashes of the dead would never have forgiven me…”
I get what Hange says in chapter 127 about the fallen comrades and that they would never sacrifice all of humanity for the sake of their island. The same thing with Marco — I can’t see this precious boy being ok with genocide. But Marco has been dead for 4 years. Back in those days when everything was black-and-white and the Pure Titans were the only concern for humanity, it was easy to distinguish right and wrong. Marco didn’t get to see the ocean and find out the truth about the people outside the Walls. So it’s hard to tell what Marco’s opinion on genocide would be. In this situation it seems counter-intuitive to look for future-determinative answers in the past when the past was so drastically different. So at this point (when deciding on which side he is on) Jean should have left the memory of Marco and aimed for the future i.e. siding with the stronger group that shares the same goal —  successfully finish the Rumbling — and that will appreciate Jean’s support. The Yeagerists.
So I guess it would be in character for Jean to accept Floch’s offer (but for different reasons, his ambitions would have nothing to do with this) and decline the Alliance’s offer to join them.
As for Connie… It’s so sad to see this cheerful baby have all of the joy sucked out of his life. Unlike the golden trio Connie didn’t go through the loss of his parents and family. Up until the Clash of the Titans Arc he doesn’t have any particular reason to be unhappy with his life. But then chapter 37 happens — and suddenly Connie loses his entire family. And not only the family, his entire fucking village — the place where he was born and raised. What’s sad about this is that at this point in the story Connie does not even know what exactly has happened to his parents and siblings. They’ve just disappeared and all that Connie gets to find is a Pure Titan laying on top of his house.
Later Connie learns that the population of Ragako was turned into Titans for the sake of the Marleyan military operation (he finds out about this much later but still) and the Pure Titan was actually his mother. But this knowledge doesn’t bring any relief. In fact, now he knows that his family and fellow countrymen were indeed killed in their Titan form. All he has left is his mother but it’s very likely that she will stay a Titan for good.
Tumblr media
After 4 years I think Connie gets used to the fact that he is never getting his mother back and finds a new family in his friends — Jean and Sasha (mostly Sasha).
Tumblr media
And then Connie suffers another blow, Sasha’s death. And again, she dies as the result of the cycle of hatred that has been going on for 2000 years. (Connie himself doesn’t openly blame Gabi for the murder of Sasha so hush)
All of the deaths that deeply affect Connie: his family, the population of Ragako, Sasha — are caused by people from outside the Walls. Those losses break Connie and he consequently becomes spiteful and aggressive. It comes to the point that Connie doesn’t hesitate and kidnaps unconscious Falco when he learns about him becoming one of the Nine Titans. Connie, this goofy guy as we know him, is willing to kill a child — all to get his mother back.
Connie has no one left apart from Jean. Hatred towards the Paradisian took all of the people he loved from him. Blinded from grief and emotionally scarred, he is ready to do anything in order to protect the few people he still has with him. Connie would want to break the cycle of hatred so that nobody could hurt the people from the island, his friends, anymore. With the Rumbling activated and being in full swing — all it takes is to wait until all of the other nations are wiped out thus destroying one of the sides of conflict.
Of course Connie would realize how cruel it is to let other nations be crushed to death — even after having kidnapped Falco and while being confronted by Armin and Gabi he is aware of the foolishness of his actions. Maybe they would have had the room and the time for negotiations, but the Rumbling left them no other options.
So I guess it would also be logical for Connie to join the Yeagerists in order to make sure that the Rumbling is carried out fully and on all continents.
Now 〜imagine〜 with Jean and Connie joining the Yeagerists and being in port. How gut-wrenching it would be to watch the Alliance fight not some NPC Yeagerists but their actual friends.
Ok my rant is coming to the end now sorry if you don’t like it. Just wanted to share my very unpopular opinion. 〜bye〜
p.s. sorry for shittily photoshopped together manga panels

AOT (SNK) HEADCANONS
What their favorite curse words are or which ones they would use in a modern setting. -Includes the Warriors ofc ^^-
TRIGGER WARNING: you guessed it. Curse words and mentions of slur usage (slurs not included ofc).
Eren (S1-3): he would definitely go with the usual “fuck” and “bitch” but have an unhealthy obsession with words related to balls that everyone hates and makes Mikasa give him dirty looks every time he says one.
“Bro you fucking piece of shit, I swear I will kick you in those fucking hairy bollocks you call a face”
Eren (S4): this man just says the most offensive slurs (unprovoked and with no visible emotions) that make the entire room go QUIET.
Mikasa: doesn’t curse too often, but when she does, she mostly uses some Japanese curse words that she picked up from her mother, such as:
“くそ! (kuzo!)”: meaning “fuck!”
“ちくしょう (chikushō)”: meaning “oh shit”
“わるがき (warugaki)”: meaning “brat”. Mostly used towards Eren when she is annoyed.
Fair to say that she doesn’t shout them, she just says them in a low voice.
Armin: we all know it’s really unlikely that he’ll ever insult anyone during an argument, but for some reason i feel that he enjoys to say things like “holy guacamole!” when he stubs his toe in the couch and stuff like that djdjdjhs
Sasha: loves weird word combinations and long curse words to say at any given moment such as: “what in the mother geewillikers’ bazooka trunk is that?!?”
No one really knows how she comes up with these.
Connie: DEFINITELY uses stinky and ass way too much.
“Hey Connie, yo mama-“
“LISTEN YOU STINKY ASS MOTHE-“
Jean: is the one who actually makes the “yo mama” jokes to Connie ALL the time. He likes to get creative.
“Hey Connie, yo mama so fat that Thanos had to snap twice”
“Hey Connie, yo mama’s forehead so big that she can make a pita out of sourdough bread by giving it a headbutt”
Historia: on a daily basis, she uses refined curse words to refer to the people that she dislikes, such as “bastard”, “miserable”, “wretched” and such, but OH- we all know that when she’s either comfortable or really mad she can say (and probably knows) more curse words than everyone in the troops combined.
Ymir: she just needs cursing to live and most of her sentences consist of phrases with random curse words intertwined into every single one of them. Special mention to “shit” because she likes it a lot and most things that aren’t related to Historia are just “shitty” to her.
“I SWEAR TO GOD REINER YOU SHITTY FUCKING DICKHEAD! STAY AWAY FROM HISTORIA”
Erwin: oh, our good suburban dad Erwin. He really likes “bloody hell” and will throw random dammits at small inconveniences like “staining” his shirt with a little bit of coffee or a pen falling from his desk.
Levi: he will for sure call everyone an “asshole” because he simply thinks everyone is. Period. He doesn’t care who you are. To him, everyone is just a “stupid asshole that doesn’t deserve his time and effort”.
Yes. He learned this word from Kenny. Now cry.
Hange: they absolutely love researching funny and currently unused curse words on the internet just for the laughs. Hange doesn’t really feel the need to curse at everything and everyone, but will randomly throw some of the ones they learned when everyone is angry and cursing to just “get in the mood”.
Ymir: “he’s just shitty, I guess…”
Connie: “JUST SHITTY? HE FUCKING SUCKS ASS”
Hange, passing by: “zooterkins! he sounds like a zounderkite. Did you two know that is the victorian word for idiot?” *laughs and leaves*
Reiner: his favorites were “son of a bitch”, “motherfucker” and “whore”, and he mainly used them to insult fellow men when he was at Paradis. Now that he’s back in Marley, he just doesn’t have the energy/tries to avoid doing it for the kids.
Bertholdt: my good man right here would never insult anyone but himself when he is frustrated (which mostly happens in his mind, of course), but sometimes, when he says these things out loud, they’re like:
“Come on Bertholdt you’re such an idiot!”
“Dumb. I am dumb. Goodbye”. *storms off in tiny anger*
Annie: is definitely beyond basic “rat kid insults” (in her words) like “pussy”, anything to do with balls, “whateverfucker” and randomly saying “fuck” or “shit” in every sentence, so she usually goes with the useful basic when needed:
“Fuck off”. Yep, that is definitely a favorite.
Pieck: definitely knows how to curse properly but chooses not to, so don’t be fooled. She might look soft, and she is. But she has also been on too many missions with too many soldiers and definitely knows way more insults and jargon than you.
She doesn’t really have a favorite one, though. She just enjoys the looks on people’s faces when she lets them know that she understood every single word that they said and that “calling her a “carechimba hija de su puta madre” won’t suffice”.
Yelena: will straight up HEX you in russian and occasionally bring up some slurs💀. I know, I’m sorry Yelena but we all know it’s true ㅠㅠ
Zeke: this man is still -sadly- not over “balls and penis curse words”, so you can imagine for yourself what his common expressions are and how he goes from “ballsack sucker” to whatever sounds like it.
Porco: uses the classical “fuck”, “shit”, “bitch” and so on, but additionally tries to incorporate curse words or even slurs that he doesn’t know how to use or what they mean and their implications, only to be met by Pieck’s stare seconds later; and you guessed it: she usually has to explain to him what they mean and why he shouldn’t be using them.
Falco: will mostly say those weird “filtered bad words” that are children-safe, such as “fudge nuggets!” and “snickerdoodle!”, but you cannot tell me that Gabi hasn’t taught him the actual stuff and he secretly uses “shit” on the internet and some others slip out when he’s playing with his friends and gets mad at Gabi for cheating.
Gabi: knows the entire classic curse word dictionary. Occasionally uses slurs pretending she didn’t know that she couldn’t say them.
One day, she called Falco a “piece of pixelated b*kk*ke” because she heard it somewhere and thought it meant “shit”, so Pieck had to step in and age-appropriately explain that it was something that “bad men did to punish women in Japan and that it was not funny at all”. Gabi never said it again.
Casually picked up “suka” from Yelena because she thought it sounded funny.

Oh oh! If you still take requests, could you maybe do something with Reiner first introducing you the The Kiddos? Like, maybe you're still in the early stages of the relationship but both ypu and Reiner know that you're keepers and he wants to introduce you to such important persons in his life 😭
I'd love to do that! My heart melts just imagining Reiner thinking you're the one while looking at you in adoration, and so he decides to introduce you to his cousins whom he'd protect with his life.
Reiner introducing you to his cousins
{ Reiner x reader | tw: none | fluff | modern }
Tumblr media
{ "Tea Time" 1905 byMyrtle Jean MacLane 1878-1964 }
It's after Reiner saw how much you've stood beside him and supported him even through his weakest moments when you didn't have to, that he knew you're the one for him.
The one he could see himself with in the future, the one he adores and deeply cares about, the one he wants to protect and cherish.
And love. He wants to love you in every way possible, just like you showed him what being loved feels like.
He knows it will be a slow process to merge your lives together and get used to each other around, so he takes it slow, introducing you to his friends and older cousins.
Zeke and Pieck were the first to meet you. So far they've been nothing but really kind and charming, Pieck making you feel at ease and comfortable around her like you're old friends while Zeke making you laugh and being really respectful of your boundaries.
After that it was Bertlot and Annie, his two closest friends. They were more stiff and less easy to start a conversation with unlike the previous two, but by the end of the day you actually found yourself understanding them better.
It's not that they don't like you, it's just their personality. Annie actually cares and gives you genuine compliments despite coming off as cold in the start, while Bertolt is just not good with meeting people and small conversations which is why he seemed stiff and nervous at first glance.
Reiner tells you that it went really well after they left, he knows them and knows how they act around people they're starting to like.
Lastly you met Porco and Colt, it was a really short meeting because Colt had somewhere to be while Porco just didn't want to be alone with Reiner for long.
You learned about Proco's older brother who's currently working in a different country, Marcel. And about Colt's younger brother Falco.
As an attempt to piss Reiner off, Proco hits on you and tells you to ditch Reiner. When you laugh it off and refuse you notice the smug smile on Reiner's face.
Colt tells you to tell him if you ever need anything, he's usually busy but he knows a lot of people around here and has worked at different jobs to gain a lot of experience, he's also really respectful with you.
After you meet all his friends, he plans on introducing you to his younger cousins. He seems nervous about it
"How bad can it be?" You say, "i can handle kids."
How bad can it really be huh? Well.
Gabi hates you. Straight up she says it to your face. Not dislike, but hate.
Flaco says he's sorry for how she's acting, yet he doesn't really try to stop her.
Udo avoids eye contact with you, he'll literally find the fork in his hand more interesting to look at even when you talk to him
Zofia just stares, coldly, unmoving and uncaring.
Yeah, it's not going well at all.
After some time, it's Falco who starts liking you first. Being your only friend, he attempts to get to know you more and hype you up to the other three.
It's Udo who starts getting curious and starts asking you questions about your life and hobbies, you know how kids basically have no mouth filter and will ask you anything? Yeah that's him.
Actually thanks to that, your answers will get Gabi's attention. If you mention something you're particularly good or talented at, she will want to know more.
Flaco reasons with them that getting to know you will make Reiner happy, and Gabi really cares about Reiner so she tries her hardest.
You're making progress, the three of them are actually talking to you now.
Except...Zofia isn't buying it, while Falco was the easiest to gain his approval, Zofia's the hardest.
It will take a lot of time and effort before she is comfortable around you.
Getting close to Udo is your key to gaining Zofia on your side.
And showing interest in her hobbies and likes. She's really into drama shows, dresses designs and true crime. While simultaneously being kind to Udo, you'll gain her trust slowly.
She observers how you treat her friends and others, how you react when someone makes a mistake and how you talk about people when they're not in the room. Paying close attention to small details and expressions.
Especially Udo, how you treat him and talk about him will be her final judge on you.
When Gabi invites you personally to cheer for her at her school soccer match, you know she started to open up to you. Especially how she spares you a couple glances and a wave while on the field.
For Falco it's when he starts opening up to you about his own needs and worries. He's so used to putting other's needs before him that he rarely talks about his own. Also the way you treat Colt will greatly impact your relationship with Falco.
You know Udo accepted you when he doesn't shy away from direct confrontation with you or gets cuts himself halfway through talking about something in fear he's being annoying. Instead he'll seem more passionate about his interests and more comfortable with physical touch around you.
Would literally spend hours talking about space and turtles to you, the biggest smile on his face and the most energetic and confident you've seen him that even Zofia can't correct him because he knows his stuff and is sure about it.
The way you react whenever he makes a mistake or accidentally does something bad, will greatly impact your relationship with him.
Reiner isn't oblivious to his cousins's feelings, he's actually really in touch with their emotions and can read them easily. He doesn't pressure Gabi at the start to like you nor does he guilt Zofia into giving you a chance after a year of knowing you.
He just reassures them that you're a good and kind person, you're trustworthy and you've showed him care and love. That you're his partner now and a thing that will be constantly permanent in his life.
He also reassures them that it doesn't mean he will leave them or pull away, he won't love them any less actually they'll have double the love since now you're here to offer that too.
And that talk from him is what pushes them over the line, realising they could get double the attention and care, they slowly began competing for your love.
They share their days with you, maybe add you into their memes groupchat where Falco posts his fortnite wins just for Gabi to demand to 1v1 him on Cod. Or how Udo sends pictures of lego sets he finished building, or maybe where Zofia shares the freshest influencer drama directly from twitter, is Kanya really cheating on kim with jeffree star? Who knows.
They try to manipulate you into helping them to break the rules Reiner set for them. Take that coffee away from Falco and get that mature rated horror movie away from Gabi, no udo you can't turn the kitchen into a chemistry lab and Zofia you can't stay up till 3am, i don't care that you're trying to summon a demon, you have school tomorrow.
Reiner told them no for doing something? Okay they'll just ask you instead, what will make you say yes when he said no?
"Because he's not the boss of you" is what Zofia says.
Falco is in dire need of hugs so offer them as much as you can, if they stay over let him sleep between you and Reiner, he can't do that at home anymore.
Gabi needs attention, so make sure to include her in everything and praise her for any accomplishments. She gets jealous easily so make her know that your love is unconditional and you'll always be proud of her even if she doesn't come first place at an event or challenge.
Zofia needs her space and respect, don't coddle her or belittle her interests. Show genuine attention to what she likes and support her. Also know when she says something she actually means it, so listen carefully.
Udo needs reassurance and safety, he also needs someone to believe in him. Comfort him yes but also have faith in him that he can do things, tell him mistakes and failing is okay but also have hope in his abilities and strength.

Hmmm, how to word this…I don’t really think it’s really fair to dismiss the criticisms of AoT’s final stretch out of hand, especially since while their are several idiotic takes like those you mentioned, not everyone who dislikes Attack on Titan, especially its final stretch, is arguing in bad faith.
In particular, I find that there are three particular sticking points that people have. First is the handling of the use of discrimination as a plot device, particularly using the Eldians as a Jewish allegory along with Holocaust imagery. I don’t feel like I’m fully qualified to speak on the issue, but taking the only group of people in the fictional setting who can transform into enormous, man-eating monsters, and equating them with one of the single most marginalized and persecuted minorities in history, who were often demonized to justify this persecution…well it doesn’t sit right with me. A lot of stories use fantastical racism, and while it can be done well (like in 86), it tends to fall a lot flatter when people with extremely powerful superhuman abilities are the ones being persecuted, especially when they’re directly compared to a real-life minority.
Second, a lot of characters got shafted on their character arcs, either being written out of the story before they could properly complete them, or having their arcs be rewritten to revolve around other characters rather than being about their own journeys. The most egregious examples of this, imo, are Ymir (who also was subjected to the extremely awful Bury Your Gays trope, and offscreen, no less), Historia, and Mikasa. To be fair on this point, there are several characters who do have well-written character arcs in this stretch, such as Gabi, Levi, and especially Reiner, but some other characters are infuriating to be forced to deal with, especially when the plot seems to contort just to keep them in the narrative when so many others were unceremoniously written out (looking at you, Zeke). Add onto this the rather abrupt time skip (and please believe me when I say that the time skip was really jarring and out of nowhere in the manga), and how several characters, particularly Eren, change drastically during it and only get that change explained retroactively, and that adds up to several characters feeling like their journeys were either incompletely told or derailed outright.
Third, a lot of plot points and plot devices in this stretch either felt incredibly contrived or like they ultimately took the plot in a direction that felt rather incongruous with the prior material. For example, several of the shifters survived what very much should have been mortal injuries just so they could remain part of the plot, rather than giving them less dramatic injuries to better justify their survival. And the introduction of The Ways and time travel into the plot, in spite of the nuggets of foreshadowing for the latter especially, felt very out of left field for the relatively grounded material prior to it, and ultimately took the overall plot in a direction that I very much did not agree with.
I know that you have enjoyed the anime, and I don’t say this to diminish your love for the series. Rather, I say this as a former fan of the series who was ultimately disappointed and upset with the story’s late-game developments, and did not want their concerns, or the concerns of their fellows who had similar reasoning, to be dismissed out of hand as bad faith whining instead of legitimate issues.
I still do hope you enjoy what remains of the series, but please, don’t ignore the heartbreak and disappointment of so many fans who felt burned by the it.
Thanks for sharing! I don't mean to give off the impression that every critic of AOT is just a salty manga fan; there are plenty of valid reasons to not like it. It's just that so many of the loudest voices I'm hearing right now- the people loudly expressing how much this season sucks and how it's all going downhill and how the ending was terrible- are complaining about "issues" that either don't seem like issues to me or are actually positives. I remember people lambasting the pie scene from episode 8 because it supposedly represents AOT becoming cringe shit for babies, and I'm just sitting here thinking how joyless these people must be, because that scene was fucking hilarious. Veeeeery different breed of AOT-disliker.
Now, in regards to the Holocaust imagery, because I know that's one of the thorniest issues in regards to this show... look, I'm ethnically Jewish on both my parents' sides, though I don't practice the religion. And my single opinion on the matter isn't the be-all-end-all. But from where I'm standing, while the Jewish/Eldian allegory is messy, I think it's important to recognize that it's not intended to be dehumanizing. Quite the opposite, in fact; like I mentioned in my review, showing the Eldians being persecuted like Jews in Nazi Germany is supposed to make us realize that these beings we've been trained to see as mindless monsters are actually the sympathetic victims, and both we and the protagonists were misled by propaganda that made us dehumanize them in the first place. We're not meant to go "Wow, I guess Jews are all cannibal monsters who deserve to be slaughtered." We're meant to go, "Holy shit, we bought into Nazi-esque propaganda and condemned an entire ethnic group as deserving genocide because we were made to see them as subhuman. I need to go home and rethink everything."
Like, is it still messy? For sure, and I don't blame anyone who feels icky about it. But I don't think there was any active malice on Isayama's part here, just cluelessness about how certain allegorical elements could be interpreted. If nothing else, it's clear he has nothing but sympathy for the tragedies the Eldians have endured, and he wants to impart just how fucking horrible this war has been for all the innocent people caught up in its wake. And for me, at least, that effort was successful.

“On Edge” episode 12 Thoughts:
“For a team to win a gold medal, I think it needs a moment” - Marie France ain’t wrong but do we really think P/C (who are going to win) will give that moment? I honestly doubt it.
I did love the montage of H/D at US championships, it was moving.
Overall the recap of US championships was well done.
Evan is wearing WAY too much make up in the couch interview scenes.
Did Romain just say that Chock/Bates weakness might be their skating skills?
I love Sam but in what world are Disco Brits underdogs?
I’M SORRY LET’S GO BACK FOR A SECOND. DID ROMAIN LEGIT JUST SAY THAT MADI AND EVAN WEAKNESS IS THEIR SKATING SKILLS? LOL WOW.
Marie France is right when she is saying that there’s no worse spot than 4th, I think H/D were much more broken after the Olympics than P/C were.
LOL at Gabi being “French nationals went really well”, I mean we can all ignore the fall on the twizzles I guess, god forbid their mistakes will be acknowledged like the rest.
OK I have to LOL at the mention of 2018 Olympics for P/C. I truly think the main reason it was such “trauma” for them is that they truly believed they were going to win which in part led to their downfall.
HI SCOTT! LOL.
Listen, I LOVE Madi, I don’t care what everyone else say, the fact that she boldly say that H/D want gold and that most people in the room don’t think it’s going to happen and her “don’t count me out, let’s see on the day” - I love it love it love it, that’s the right fighting spirit.
And the fact that it is followed by Gui’s “it’s the fear of not winning that makes us work harder” - that’s exactly why I love H/D and dislike P/C...
Canadanes are really wholesome LOL.
Overall it was a nice show that I enjoyed. I do wish it had more skating in it but it definitely had its moments.

When Annie looked in his eyes, the world stopped spinning, time froze, air halted. The waves in the ocean quietened, the forests' rustles ceased, and the wind subsided. For a moment, peace engulfed the world, the chaotic place wrapped in a fragile silence.
To witness the blossoming love in the youthful hearts.
the day of their wedding was finally here, Armin and Annie, the world waiting for them, and they were ready to face it, as one.
Husband and wife.

His heart drummed in his ears. The lump in his throat enlarged into a coarse rock, impossible to swallow. His throat tight on his windpipes he could barely breathe.
He tried to compile the tips he read a few days earlier; deeply breathing and a smile.
He failed miserably at both.
“Armin?”
He brushed his suit.
“Armin?”
He shifted his weight from one feet to the other.
“Armin!”
“Yes!” Armin jumped, searching around him, catching a few glances from the small crowd.
“Why are you not responding?”
Armin turned around and-
“Oh, Connie, I’m sorry, I’m just- you know, I was just-” Armin shook his head, waiting for Connie to somehow decipher the concoction of words he threw at him.
“It’s ok,” Connie chuckled, running his hand up and down Armin’s back, “it’s your wedding, it’s ok to be nervous.”
Armin thought about it for a moment, clicking his sharp crispy shoes on the wooden floor: “I’m not… I’m not nervous…”
“Excited?” Connie retorted, raising an expecting eyebrow at Armin.
At that, Armin blushed.
“Oh come on,” Connie laughed, nudging Armin, “I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.”
Armin turned around, combing his hair down with his palms, his eyes scrutinizing the invited. Less than twenty people seated in rows, the joyous anticipating guests shifted in their seats, smiling at Armin and waving. The humble place densed with close friends and family. As ambassadors, their compulsory position obliged them to have another big, huge wedding, inviting the allied nations and every political face ever. A just-for-show kind of celebration, glazed in fake smiles and formalities. Armin and Annie had an innate dislike for these occasions. But they would have to do it either way. For now, they would live every moment of this homely, small wedding.
They didn’t go venue hunting. Historia offered her own warehouse (that was attached to her farm house) to hold their wedding; they couldn’t say no to that.
The warehouse transformed into a cozy, traditional hall, rows of velvety pink chairs aligned in straight lines, breaking in the middle to form a path overlayed with a shiny white carpet, leading up to where Armin was waiting. White flowers decorating the humble place, with golden fabric draped in soft curves. It gave off the family atmosphere Armin and Annie strived for.
They couldn’t have it any better.
Gabi and Falco settled in the last row, Falco shamelessly and most likely unaware of himself openly-swooning over Gabi, both in summer outfits, Gabi’s dress flowered from the top to the bottom, Falco clad in a brown modern suit. Gabi was either oblivious to Falco’s hypnotized state, or she acted oblivious. Armin decided it was the latter.
Jean was sitting beside Pieck, facing away from each other. Armin sighed, they probably got into another fight. Since they started dating two years ago, their relationship had been on and off all the time.
Armin moved on, but the movement of Pieck’s hand took his attention. Slowly, she slithered her hand next to Jean’s, touching it slightly… a moment passed, before Jean sighed, intertwining their fingers.
Armin couldn’t stop the smile pulling at his lips.
A few seats next to them sat Reiner, his mom by his side, passionately whispering something in his ear. Reiner looked so out of it.
When Reiner noticed Armin’s eyes, he smiled, paying him a small wave, with a gesture to his ring finger.
Ah
His mother’s whispers were nothing but pestering him about when he’ll get married. Armin laughed, shaking his head.
Armin’s eyes halted on the first seat at the far right, where his childhood friend sat, clad in a crimson red dress, her hair touching her shoulder, a dust of make up adorning her face. Mikasa smiled at Armin, a proud smile. The proud-mom-smile she wore whenever he did anything she was proud of.
She was proud of everything he did, every single thing he did since they were only nine.
He waved at her, she nodded in response.
He could never forget Mikasa’s reaction when he told her he would propose to Annie.
The tears, the hugs.
Happiness overflowed out of her.
But soon enough, they both crumbled on the floor, hugging each other, sobbing, lamenting whispers escaping them. Eren’s name slipped every now and then.
Armin swallowed, looking at his feet. The bitter sweet roughness of that night would remain in his mind for as long as he lived.
Someone joined the seat beside Mikasa.
It was Hitch.
Gorgeous.
Armin thought. She did look so pretty, her hair slightly curled, in an off the shoulder navy dress that overflowed in a soft skirt.
She waved at him, he smiled and nodded.
Then she winked, raising her thumbs.
Armin furrowed his eyebrows. He didn’t understand, but nodded anyway.
Connie was having enough of Armin’s ignoring game; he cleared his throat and said: “Hey, by the way, how did you ask Mr. Leonhart for his blessings?”
“Oh, uh, well…” Armin started, flashbacks of that day at the forefront of his mind.
Even though they had been engaged for over a year, Armin still remembers that day as if it was yesterday.
Well…
“Well, he said that if I don’t treat Annie well, he will take my life with his own hands,” Armin said, shrugging his shoulders, as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
“What?”
“Yeah, I mean, it was easier than I thought, if I’m being honest with you.”
“Oh God.”
“No it’s not that shocking, besides, he supported me and Annie from the beginning,” Armin replied.
“I can’t believe it,” Connie’s eyes fixated on a spot behind Armin.
“Well, I don’t know what you exactly think of Mr. Leonhart, but-”
Connie clicked his tongue, pointing behind Armin.
Armin turned around and-
It was her.
“Annie…” he whispered.
Standing there, arms tangled by her father's.
A simple dress, a peasant dress; puffy sleeves with ruffled edges that beautified her updo hair. Pastel pink contouring the dress’s folds, adding a variant of flowery accents to it. A tight brown bodice hugged her waist, making the flowy skirt finely pleated into cascading silky waves. Something about it reminded Armin of a field of pink flowers in a spring afternoon.
The slight blush on her cheeks, her bangs framing her face, boldening her beauty.
The memory of gazing at a crystal in a cold basement from a few years ago struck Armin.
But the cold was replaced by warmth.
A warmth that traveled from Armin's toes to the tip of his nose, a feeling he never experienced before. He wanted to scream, jump in his spot, like a toddler in a candy store, but he also wanted to hug himself, cage himself in a corner, and cry.
The warmth reached Armin's eyes, his sight blurring.
His lungs caught fire, and despite feeling suddenly hot, his hands were freezing cold.
A thousand thoughts swarmed his mind in the short period of Annie walking up to him. It took approximately a minute, perhaps two, but for Armin, it felt like eternity. A labyrinthine he was very willingly getting lost in.
When she reached him, at the altar, not a single breath left him. His sight was blurry and eyes burning. His whole body shook with every sob he tried to suppress.
Someone held his hand, Armin looked down, and through his blurry eyes, he saw Mr. Leonhart’s gripping his hand, his hold a bit tight.
Mr. Leonhart took Armin’s hand, raising it. In his other hand, he held his daughter’s hand.
He guided Annie’s hand to Armin’s, placing them on each other, before clasping them in his strong grasp, holding them for a while. He looked at Annie, nodded at her with a smile, before he turned his gaze to Armin.
Mr. Leonhart leaned towards Armin, whispering in his ear: “I would kill you.”
Armin laughed, though his mouth opened but no voice came out.
Mr. Leonhart descended, walking to his seat, dabbing at his eyes.
At that moment, Armin’s world muted into a deafening, incomprehensible line. He took Annie’s hands in his. His eyes went up, from their intertwined hands, up to her collarbone; she wore a simple necklace, a small, silver circular metal hanging from it.
To anyone who wasn’t familiar with Annie, it looked like a normal necklace.
But it wasn’t.
It was her ring.
Her infamous ring.
Armin’s wandering eyes reached Annie’s.
Blue meeting blue.
And that was the last trigger.
Sobs escaped Armin’s lips. He cried, tears flowing and cascading on his cheeks. He didn’t want to cry, it made his eyesight blurry and he wanted to see Annie clearly. He brought his elbow to his eyes, wiping his tears, only for new ones to flood.
He tried to stop them, gritting his teeth, biting at the inside of his cheeks, squeezing his eyes shut.
He couldn’t, all his attempts leading to more sobs and tears.
Warm hands on his face made him flutter his eyes open. With a handkerchief, Annie softly dabbed at his cheeks, a smile small on her lips. Her eyes were glistening as well.
Armin focused on her eyes, and slowly, took deep breaths.
Sobs subsided, and tears stopped streaming down his face, clearing his vision.
She cupped his face in her hands, and brought him down, capturing his lips on her own, a quick kiss, lingering for a bit. Armin kissed her back, closing his eyes briefly, before she pulled away. She pulled far enough to look into his eyes, but close enough to feel his breath on her face.
“Ahem ahem.”
Both almost jumped at the sound, turning their heads. The priest stood there, a smile on his lips.
Only then did Armin and Annie realize that the small crowd was giggling.
“You jumped off a few steps there,” the priest said, nudging his head towards them, eliciting extra chuckles from the crowd.
Armin pressed his lips, looking at Annie. She was already looking at him, her lips pressed as well. They exploded in a fit of laughter, before they calmed down, and the ceremony went on.
From the priest’s concise sentences, Armin presumed that the priest knew that Annie and him couldn’t wait to get married.
Rings slipped in their fingers, in their left hands, so smoothly, as if they were always meant to be.
Armin’s heart beating faster as they tiptoed closer to the ending of the wedding.
“And now,” the priest announced, taking a step back, “you, Armin Arlert, may now kiss the bride!”
They held each other's eyes, before Armin wrapped his arm around Annie’s waist, pulling her closer to him, and kissed her.
They kissed many, many times before.
But that kiss felt different.
Their first kiss as husband and wife.
Armin pressed his lips against Annie’s, feeling her heartbeat against his own wild one.
Cheers and claps erupted from the crowd, quiet sobs mixing with them.
They pulled apart, fighting against the magnetic force drawing them together.
Armin held Annie’s hands in his, running his finger on the ring, glistening in the light.
Annie was his, and he was hers.
“My husband,” she whispered, her voice an inch from breaking into tears.
An involuntary smile pulled at Armin’s lips, before he leaned towards Annie, resting his forehead on hers: “My wife.”
She shook her head, rubbing their foreheads together.
“My wife,” he said again, “my wife,” his voice getting louder, before he turned to the crowd, lifting up their intertwined hands victoriously in the air, screaming out: “my wife!!”
Laughs and more claps burst, guests standing up in the process.
As the bride took the groom’s arm, the newly married couple made their way, taking a new step in their lives, together, forever and ever.

FINAL POST ON ATTACK ON TITAN
Okay! I have to address this. This is about the additional pages of AoT (and a bit about the original ending) and my stance on them.
1. Do I think the 8 additional pages Isayama gave us were necessary? NO
Tumblr media
2. Do I think the sequel everyone is speculating about is absolutely going to happen? NOT SURE and I’m not sure I want it too. But if it does happen - I’ll check it out.
Tumblr media
3. Am I happy with Mikasa supposedly ending up with Jean? I mean, WHY NOT? Was it coming out of nowhere? No, I don’t think so.. I mean, why would Isayama stress so much Jean dreaming about his future with Mikasa in ch. 127? Why was a comment made about Jean fixing his hair? Also, I was told about Jean dreaming about Mikasa in the training corps was described in one of the light novels... idk, man.. Jean’s character could’ve been perfectly well written and developed even without his love for Mikasa but Isayama chose to persist with Jean’s affection for her.. 🤷🏻
Tumblr media
Moreover, I’m so happy Jean has shut down pieck’s dumb “hair” comment advance by basically saying “mind your own business” 😂 (if you haven’t noticed, I severely dislike pieck and what she did during the final battle is nowhere near enough to pay for the shit she’s done in the past. She had to die).
Tumblr media
4. PIECK DESERVED TO DIE. Speaking of enemies-to-allies, don’t compare pieck to Annie. Annie spent 4 years being sealed in a stone feeling remorseful for what she’s done in the past. We’ve always known how hard it was for her to be under cover in the training corps, how much she mentally suffered and how relieved she was to be discovered. Piece, however, is an opportunistic little rat who not only assisted Zeke in turning Ragako village into Titans, killed half the paradisian troupe that invaded Liberio but brought an entire Marleyan fleet to Paradis... only to change her shoes “in-flight” and step onto the alliance side? With not a single word of remorse? Not a single apology? Hell no. There was not a drop of redemption plot there. Zeke, Reiner, even Gabi had their redemption stories but not Pieck. She doesn’t deserve that tea. Hence, she’s dead 💀 in my book.
Tumblr media
5. Was the ending rushed? Um, the original 139 ending - probably not. I mean, I wish we had a bit more explained in the epilogue chapter but I’m happy with not having every single event spelled out for me - this isn’t a Hollywood movie, after all. Additional pages, however... I don’t think they were necessary. If the sequel was planned, we could’ve gotten an announcement by the publisher with a trailer later on. That would’ve been much better.
Tumblr media
6. Final point - if there was something that I praised more than anything else in the original 139 it was the fact that titan powers were no more. Eren dreamed of getting rid of all Titans - and he finally accomplished it. At the cost of his life, the lives of his parents, the lives of all the survey corps. At the cost of his future with Mikada which we know he craved. And what the additional pages are telling us? That all that was for nothing... titan powers still exist and it’s up to a supposed Mikasa’s descendant to discover them. Like, WHY? I see no other explanation than “sequel”, and judging from the majority of the fandom’s reaction to the ending, Isayama and the team will have to work really really hard to have the current opinion on the series to turn around.
Tumblr media
Overall, I felt like Isayama was testing the waters with the original ending and teased us with some unanswered questions (which he never planned to have answered anyways). I personally do not understand why Historia’s husband face had to be hidden all this time only to be blurred in 139. I don’t understand the reason to have told us what the “final panel” would look like. I personally knew that no self-respecting mangaka would give away the ending 2 years prior to it but some impressionable people did believe him.
Tumblr media
Minor observation: what’s with all the “back of the head” perspectives in his panels? If he’s doing it to hide the faces - it’s way too frequent in the panels not to be annoying in the end.

How problematic are they? Would they get cancelled?
Tumblr media
content: cursing, mild spoilers, insulting your faves, long list of characters
EREN ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ soooo problematic and for what? in his defense, eren doesn’t actively try to come off as an asshole— he just has strong opinions and doesn’t really care if it rubs people the wrong way
MIKASA *ೃ༄ my girl out here getting hate for no reason. haters are just afraid because mikasa is a strong, independent woman who doesn’t care for their stupid comments
ARMIN ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ armin is perfect, he can do wrong in my eyes. he’s the golden child of attack on titan. i dont accept criticism on this sorry
JEAN *ೃ༄ mmm yes but no; people would probably just give him shit because a video surfaced of him treating his mom kinda badly. some defend him and others don’t
CONNIE ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ because he’s just a crackhead, connie might accidentally say something offensive. his manager will have to apologize on his behalf because he’d probably fuck it up and make it worse lmao
SASHA *ೃ༄ gets hateful comments because she’s unapologetically herself— doesn’t quite care for bullshit societal norms and does what she wants, which sometimes gets her in trouble
MARCO ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ this man doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, someone protect him. if anything, he might just get caught in jean’s drama at times
HISTORIA *ೃ༄ publicly, she’s okay but i feel like she’d have some really dark and questionable morals on the downlow
YMIR ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ misandrist. she’s not sorry either sjsjsjsj
ANNIE *ೃ༄ doesn’t really fuck with people. annie is the definition of “minding my business” but if someone gets on her bad side, bitch won’t be afraid to bring out the receipts
REINER ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ made a lot of bad decisions when he was young and now they’ve come back to bite him in the ass. he’s really just trying to live his life but people will bring back shit he did like 5 years ago
BERTHOLDT *ೃ༄ others have done worse shit than him but ppl just focus on one bad thing he did. like, they won’t let go no matter how much time has passed. tries to handle it with grace but kinda snaps
LEVI ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ do no harm but take no shit. levi might get a bad rep but he’s perhaps one of the least problematic characters. looks like he could shit in your dinner (and would) but only if you deserve it.
HANGE *ೃ༄ kinda crazy. hange is living life to the fullest, sometimes threading in dangerous territory but they are not offensive in general.
ERWIN ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ my man is no angel, he’s done his fair share of problematic shit but somehow smooth talks his way out of punishments??
FLOCH *ೃ༄ he’s easy to hate. mostly cuz he’s a shitty person but partly because he looks so annoying.
MARLO ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ he’s the one cancelling people. jk, marlo would try his best to be a good role model and dislikes cancel culture because he thinks it doesn’t teach people to be better by learning from their mistakes (this varies on the situation)
KENNY *ೃ༄ drunk uncle that can beat your ass no matter how old he gets. not a good parental role either!! homo— sexual? phobic?
RICO ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ this waifu might seem like a bit of a hardass with unsavory opinions but doesn’t have malicious intent so we give her a pass.
PIECK *ೃ༄ homegirl is asleep most of the time. she doesn’t have the energy to be problematic.
PORCO ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ porco acts really high and mighty for someone who’s quite problematic. always starts beef with reiner. it’s so random too, like ??
MARCEL *ೃ༄ the better twin. not problematic whatsoever. he’s actually the one who deescalates his brother’s fights. bless him
COLT & FALCO ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ really wholesome siblings and people in general. they’ve never done anything wrong in their life, ever.
GABI *ೃ༄ for a child, she gets a lot of hate. gabi doesn’t quite fully understand the adult world so she might say or do things that bother people. doesn’t mean she deserves the hate but anyway—
YELENA ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ a culprit by association. adores zeke at an unhealthy level and condones all the bad shit he’s done. knows the diff between right and wrong but ignores it. may or may not have mafia connections
ZEKE *ೃ༄ zeke is the type of person who’s in the wrong but refuses to admit it. his way or the highway.
ONYANKOPON ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ he’s an unproblematic king. wouldn’t be afraid to apologize or own up to his errors and that’s why we stan
TYBUR *ೃ༄ probably an incel. despite the obvious red flags, i feel like he’d manage to gaslight people into thinking he’s a good person. probably a cult leader too
NICCOLO ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ “you punch a couple hundred orphans and suddenly you’re mean” niccolo took ryan reynold’s a little too seriously. he’s gordon ramsey w/ everyone except sasha
GRISHA *ೃ༄ uhh well he’s not winning father of the year award anytime soon. grisha has made some mistakes and sorta learned from them? he’s trying his best but he’s on thin fucking ice
CARLA ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ unlike her son, miss carla wouldn’t get cancelled. everybody loves this milf (as they should). horny thoughts aside, she’s actually really sweet
REINER’S PARENTS *ೃ༄ i’d label them as the worst parents in aot but that title is reserved for historia’s parents. anyway, these mfs would have CPS on their asses since day 1
HISTORIA’S PARENTS ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ crème de la crème of being asshole parents. CEOs of shitty parenting. everyone hates them and for good reason.

Annie vs Mikasa: Round 2
Tumblr media
They don’t actually fight, I just couldn’t think of a good title for this post. Annie and Mikasa are a set of foils. At times their similarities only serve to irritate one another. At other times, their differences are complementary. Just like Eren / Reiner, and Bertolt / Armin, Annie and Mikasa can become each other’s worst enemies and yet at the same time offer a unique understanding to one another. Here’s an analysis of their foiling as of the latest chapter.
1. Lost Girls
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mikasa and Annie have been opposing forces in the manga ever since Eren saw it fit to compare them. If you look at them from Eren’s point of view they’re incredibly, superficially (on the outside) similiar. Both of them are the only girls in a group of two boys. Both of them are the physically strongest member of their group, and also the most confident in themselves. Annie, just like Mikasa has the ability to quickly act, and she doesn’t hesitate like Bertolt and Reiner are prone to.
Eren is someone constantly fighting against his own weakness, and that’s what causes him to trip up and hesitate. He’s always battling against the idea that he’s mediocre, that he’s all talk, that he’s unable to be strong enough to make the grand promises he makes. As a person he feels lacking, inferior. He lacks the self confidence simply to act. Which is why he gravitates towards people like Mikasa and Annie who just ACT without hesitation. He wants the single-mindedness that Mikasa and Annie have, just by being the people they are, because Eren is riddled with self doubts. Annie and Mikasa both have the strength and self confidence that Eren wants, but they don’t really care about being strong.
Tumblr media
Eren would love nothing more than to be able to shut his brain off and become a soldier the way Mikasa and Annie seem to be able to do so flawlessly, but neither of them really want to be this way. The reason that Annie and Mikasa are able to shut their brains off and just fight, is because they see themselves as having fought to survive their entire life, having lost everything else.
Tumblr media
They are both girls fighting to survive and find love in a world that they no has absolutely no love for them. They’ve both lost their places in the world, and any and all connecction to the world (except for one person) and because of that they’ve become so desperate that fighting is all they can do.
I bring up the Eren comparison because Mikasa’s been shown to be jealous of Annie in the past whenever Eren gravitated toward Annie. I don’t think Eren had any kind of romantic interest in Annie, I think he just admired her. In a way since MIkasa and Annie are so similiar, Eren can see all of the parts of Mikasa he admires in Annie (her strength, her independence) but none of the parts of Mikasa he dislikes (her codependence, her habit of always following him around).
In the female type titan arc Annie and Mikasa are characters who are incredibly similiar on the outside, especially in the way that Eren perceives them, but we learn the difference between them in their actions.
Mikasa is loyal, Annie is not. And I don’t just mean that Mikasa is loyal to the scouting corps whereas Annie is a spy. I mean, even to their small group of friends Mikasa is someone who is fiercely protective of both Armin and Eren whereas Annie will always run away from Bertolt and Reiner to protect herself. Mikasa clings to Armin and Eren as her place in this world after having lost her original family, whereas Annie completely refuses to get close to Bertolt and Reiner in the same way.
There’s also a certain irony in the way Eren perceives Annie. I mean like I said, he gravitates towards Annie because it’s all Eren thinks he admires in a person, Mikasa’s strength, but without the part of Mikasa that always clings to him. Mikasa’s loyalty towards him has always bugged him but it’s also something that Eren has also always taken for granted because look how hard he freaks out when Annie turns out to have an agenda of her own. He practically begs, and begs her not to betray the scouting corps because he can’t handle the person betrayal.
Tumblr media
Anyway this is how we are initially presented their characters, two people incredibly similiar on the outside, but Mikasa is loyal, and Annie disloyal. Of course this is deconstructed in later arcs but we gotta get out of Eren’s POV first.
2. Lost Girls, Found
I set up their foiling in the female type titan arc to show how it’s subverted this arc. A lot of ideas set up in the female type titan arc are now being inverted in the final arc. First we learn a little more about Annie, and how even her circumstances are incredibly similiar to Mikasa.
Tumblr media
Mikasa lost her place in the world when her family was killed. Annie never had  a place. They are both girls who are incredibly unconnected to the world around them. Annie an orphan with Eldian blood, Mikasa an orphan with Ackerman blood, and the last remaining person of Asian descent inside the walls. They were also marked as different from the world around them because of their birth.
They both have an adopted family member they fixate on, because that person is their sole connection to the world around them. For Mikasa it’s Eren, and for Annie it’s her father. Mikasa’s goal is ultimately to protect Eren because by his side is her place of belonging in the world everything else comes second. Annie’s goal is ultimately to return home to her father because he is her place of belonging in the world and everything else comes second.
Both girls are incredibly, aware of the cruelty of life and how easily people can die and it can all be lost. A dead insect is used to symbolize the revelation in both cases, a dead beetle for Annie, a dead butterfly for Mikasa. For the both of them they also came to this revelation at an extremely young age.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This makes them even more desperate to protect their small place of belonging in the world. Which is why they have the same selfish habit. They will forget about everything else, and run off to protect that safe place when they are pushed against a wall. Mikasa will always drop everything to run after Eren, even if it leads her to doing soemthing stupid or disobeying orders from a superior. Annie will always follow her father’s words and protect herself because she doesn’t care about the mission or the outside world ultimately.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Annie says she’d trample over other people, Mikasa doesn’t listen to Levi and charges straight at the female type titan because it’s the shortest path to Annie. It’s the same behavior, the outside world stops existing to them. Mikasa and Annie both have a small and fragile world that consists of one person they’ve decided is their family. They’re scared of the world at large, because they think they have no place in it.
The story has been gradually challenging Mikasa again and again, to care about the world outside of Eren. It starts in Trost where Mikasa realizes she can’t let herself die just because Eren died because she wants to keep his memory alive. Hange tells her that she might lose the person most important to her in the world, but she has to keep moving forward with that loss.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mikasa became the first to let go of Armin, when Eren didn’t give up on begging Levi to revive Armin, even though Mikasa had always been the most fiercely protective of their little group beforehand. Floch even points out, that Mikasa is the closest to maturing because she was out of the three of them the only one able to let go. I know Floch is wrong a lot, but Floch tends to talk in theme. I mean he’s not really a character in his own right, he just… talks about the themes of the story. He’s a mouth piece for the author to make obvious comments on the themes of the story, like when he goads Jean into just quietly accepting that the world might end outside of Paradis island. If Floch says something it’s probably a theme of the story.
Tumblr media
Mikasa has been pushed over and over again to let go of the person that is her place of belonging in the world. The way she does this is one, realizing how Eren’s actions affect others and two, learning to move to protect people outside of Eren.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s Mikasa who calls out Eren for hurting children, and it’s Mikasa who moves to protect Gabi, even knowing that Gabi was the one who killed Sasha. Why? Because Mikasa herself is a lost girl. Because Mikasa knows what it’s like to lose everything as a child.
Mikasa wants to gain the strength to protect someone, because she knows what it’s like to lose everything and doesn’t really want to inflict that on someone else. However, it turns out she’s been protecting the wrong person all along. What’s she been doing then?
Tumblr media
For both Mikasa and Annie their wish to have a family, and have some connection to the world isn’t selfish at all. In fact they can be incredibly soft and kind people to those they consider family. However, they have a tendency to tunnel vision and act selfishly when the chips are down. Mikasa enables the worst parts of Eren because she’s so codependent, and Annie is so independent she’s entirely forgotten about the world around her.
Mikasa is slowly learning what Annie already knows, her independence.
Mikasa has slowly been learning there are other things besides Eren that connect her to the outside world, whether it be her sympathies with children like Gabi and Falco who are so much like her and Eren, or her double heritage to both the Ackerman clan and her connection to Hizuru.
At the same time this latest chapter has been showing Annie the opposite. The personal connections to people that Mikasa has always clung so tightly to, and Annie has eschewed are what is slowly coming to matter more to Annie.
Tumblr media
When Annie loses all hope, it’s her brief conversation to Armin that almost pulls her back from the edge. In fact the reason she didn’t lose her mind all that time in the crystal is because Armin kept talking to her. Mikasa needs to lose her connections to other people to learn to function on her own, but Annie needs to let other people connect to her.

It’s Armin who pulls her back and grabs her hand when she just wants to avoid others. It’s Armin who counteracts Annie’s long held belief, that the great big world is scary to her. Annie can’t begin to accept the idea that the world might be kind too, unless she learns to accept Armin’s optimism, and his point of view. Annie needs to learn from Armin, but to do that she has to get close to him.

So in the latest chapter we see Annie and Mikasa challenging each other again. Annie and Mikasa have asked each other the most important questions they need to answer.

Can Mikasa actually kill Eren? Can she do what she needs to do? And Mikasa asks Annie the opposite questions? Can Annie follow Armin and be there for him or is she just going to run away again?
I’d say they are both at this point at the final hurdle of their arcs. Mikasa saying that she just wants the old Eren back is the problem. She needs to learn to accept the old Eren is gone. She can either try to save the current Eren, or kill the current Eren, but both of those means Mikasa has to drop her idealized image of Eren and confront the real one right in front of her. Whereas, Annie’s trying to run away one more final time before the end instead of fighting for someone besides herself and her own survival.
Mikasa needs to learn to be independent and function without Eren, and Annie needs to learn to let other people be a part of her life. She can’t live in this world all alone. The same way that Eren once told Mikasa how to live in this world, Armin could help Annie find a way to live, but only if she lets him.
Which is why the connection between these two lost girls is so important. In the Female Type Titan arc we saw them already try to kill each other. However, they’ve always had the potential to help each other find their way so they’ll be lost girls no more.
