Hey hi! I saw your painting posts and as always they're soooo beautiful and amazing it's unreal.
I am here because I have questions regarding shadows. Somehow I can never do shadows and please give me some tip on how to work on my shadow thing. Plus, do you use white gouache for the white highlights on the top layers?
Hello! Thank you for the kind words on my art, I think it keeps me sane some days and drives me insane on others. I always welcome questions about anything I do, and I will help to the best of my ability, you can always ask here and I can answer, or if you like I can also be found on Discord and Instagram.
As for the shadows- are you having problems with where to put the shadows? or on how to get them dark enough? I use a lot of reference for my works, and that gives me a lot of clues as to where the shadows will fall, however often I will still have to kind of fudge them, and honestly its best to use clear photos with a good source light to help guide you.
If its a matter of how to get your shadows darker, if your working with watercolor, I do what is called "glazing" which means that I lay down a number of layers of shadow and let it totally dry between layers before putting another layer on top of it. To get the really dark darks on some of my works, there may be up to 20 layers in some places. Also part of it depends on the paper your using and the paints you use. I tend to use very high pigmented paints because I paint with really bold colors, rather than the more pastel light look that is favored by a lot of artists.
Highlights can be a mix of several things. If I can possibly help it, I try to use the natural white of the paper by using masking liquid/frisket (it often times looks blue in my photos) to preserve whites. But if I can't do that or scrub back up the color, then I will bring in the use of White Gauache or some times white gelly roll pens (a favorite of many artists) to add highlights. Normally those are used like in the highlights of eyes, underside of nose, or lip or to pick out details that can get lost. Over time I have found I need to use it less and less and some times not at all but its a good thing to have on hand just in case. You want to do your best to try to preserve whites over covering it up if you can, because it will never look quite as good over larger areas, but it can rescue a painting in a pinch.
I hope this helps.

Materials You’ll Need
A Notebook
A Writing Utensil
That’s it. That is, ultimately, all you will need for this. However, I am a stationary nerd, so I’m also going to show you some cheap stuff you can buy to make a pretty Book of Shadows. I personally went to Michael’s for some of these items.
List of all these items:
Artist’s Loft Dotted Paper Journal | $9.99 | Buy here
Artist’s Loft Silver Permanent Marker | $1.49 | Buy here
Sakura Gelly Roll 08 White Pen | $1.99 | Buy the 05 size here
G2 Pilot Metallic Ink Pens | $8.99 | Buy here
Remember, you do not need any of these materials to make a Book of Shadows. To me, they just make it more fun! I also have some supplies I have purchased earlier this year for other purposes, but will be using them in this tutorial. Here is a list of those and their retail prices on Amazon.
Zebra Mildliners 15 ct | $16.77 | Buy here
Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens 4 ct | $14.99 | Buy here
Staedler Pigment Liners 4 ct | $24.12 for 2 pack | Buy here
Step 1: Decide on the Cover
For me, this was the hardest step. I had to decide what I wanted the cover to look like! Originally I drew a sigil with my silver marker, but decided against it. It left an imprint on the cover, but I think it still looks good. I then drew a Waning Crescent Moon on the cover, since the Moon means a lot to me, and because I work with the Norse God of the Moon, Mani. I also drew the moon phases on the spine, and wrote the runes Othala and Kenaz twice. This is because Othala means something similar to Home, and Kenaz is the rune for Loki, one of the Gods I work with.
Now for your cover, you absolutely do not have to put anything! Or you could put everything! One option I considered was purchasing some label stickers so I could place one on the cover and title it “Book of Shadows,” but did not like any of the choices I had. Below are some decorating ideas!
Draw a sigil
Draw a Pentagram or Pentacle
Write a charm for protection
Title it, plain and simple
Decorate with stickers!
Doodle witchy things
etc etc!
Step 2: Check Out Your Journal’s Features
Above, you can see the index / table of contents as well as the Bullet Journal key, as this was made more for Bullet Journals. There is 1 front and back page for the index, and the front of another page, with the key on the back. Should you not have an index in your Book of Shadows, I highly recommend making one using two front and back pages. You can find some great videos on youtube that go over how to make them for Bullet Journals. Find one that suits you!
Here you can see the page numbers and the average page style! As it is a dotted journal, this will be very useful for both drawing and writing in straight lines. And because it’s already numbered, we don’t have to worry about writing them in.
And the last part is this pocket folder for carrying scraps of papers! There are also 3 test pages for pens, just like there was 3 pages for the index, but I forgot to take photos of them. These are to see how your pens will work before you use them seriously in your journal, to make sure they don’t bleed or smudge.
Step 3: The Reference Section
I decided for my Book of Shadows I wanted to make a Reference Section. This is, essentially, the part of the book that will hold anything I will refer back to frequently while working on my craft and my practice, such as Holidays, Moon Phases, Correspondences, etc. You technically don’t need to do this, but it is incredibly helpful to know which section is which, and what it will contain. Below is a step-by-step photo process of how I created my title page for this section, as well as a reference I added to remember how to split up my pages easily.
And that’s it for setting up! Thank you for joining me in this part, I hope it was useful to you, and I hope that you’ll continue to enjoy this series!
Find the next part (when it’s posted) here: {x}

I was bored and wanted to distract myself from life so I swatched every pen I own :)
My pen reviews:
PaperMate FLAIR - These are my favorite thin markers of all time! I got them when I was super young (which is why that light pink one is very out of ink) and they’ve lasted extremely well. They don’t really bleed through paper, and all the colors except for yellow are very vibrant and pretty.
Sakura Gelly Roll Stardust - I got these very recently, and I have mixed reviews. The light-colored ones are quite hard to see, but the dark-colored ones are very pretty. Some of the pens seem like they are almost duds (they aren’t very inky and are kind of hard to write with), but the pens that work well look very nice. However, they are very, very slow to dry, so they don’t work well for things that have to be done quickly.
Clear Point Elite 0.7 mm - These are just pretty run of the mill mechanical pencils (they’re made by PaperMate), but they get the job done. I have three gray pencils and one purple (which came in a pack with the grey ones for some reason). They’re very pleasant to write with and I’ve never had a significant issue. One note, however, is that the eraser size is kind of finicky so it’s important to get the correct eraser refills.
BIC BriteLiner - This is my go-to highlighter. It has a brush tip, which I prefer, and it’s a nice pastel color. I keep this on my desk and use it just about every time I take notes.
Sharpie Accent - This is just your average highlighter. It works, but it’s pretty far at the bottom of my list because it isn’t in any way exceptional. Mine is pretty old, so the tip is a bit run down, but it still works.
Sharpie Smear Guard - Please ignore the green one - its cap got left off on accident and it dried out. These are the highlighters that have a clear tip so you can see through them, which I really appreciate. They are a bit lighter of a highlight than I typically prefer, but they work pretty well and they seem to smear less easily than my BIC BriteLiner.
Stædtler Triplus Fineliner - This is the only nicer pen that I own - I believe it cost about USD $6.00. It works very well for the price, doesn’t bleed through noticeably, and gets the job done. I tend to like thicker writing utensils, and this one is a little too fine of a fineliner for my taste, but I could imagine it working very well for someone who prefers finer tips. The tip seems to be square, which does sometimes require reangling your pen, but that’s the only major issue I have with this pen.
Sharpie Fine Point - This is the marker that everyone thinks of when they think “Sharpie.” I don’t have strong feelings about this marker. It’s a permanent marker, and I use it as such. It gets the job done. I wouldn’t recommend using this on paper, however, because it bleeds a lot. I use this primarily for labeling things.
Sharpie Ultra Fine Point - This is a thinner version of the typical “Sharpie” marker. On paper, it looks similar to the PaperMate FLAIR, but it bleeds through quite a lot more than that. I primarily use this for labeling things or writing on thicker paper such as cardstock.
PaperMate InkJoy - This is just an average ballpoint pen. These pens do not smudge basically at all, which is nice when you want to use a highlighter. I tend to prefer more inky pens, and these aren’t very inky. However, I do like them for times when inky, smudgeable pens just don’t cut it. These are pretty solid pens, I would say.
Pilot G-2 07 - This is my second favorite pen. It’s a thin, but still inky pen and it writes quite nicely. Since it is thinner, it’s less smudgeable, but it does still tend to smudge. I find that this pen requires a little bit of effort to write with since it is quite thin, but I’ve never had any significant issues.
Pilot G-2 10 - This is my all-time favorite pen. It’s a thicker version of the pen immediately above, and I love how it writes. It’s very inky, smooth, and pretty. However, it has some significant drawbacks. First of all, it is very inky, so it smudges quite easily. I don’t find this to be a huge issue as long as I wait a little while to highlight over it, but if you’re left-handed or have a hard time with smudgy pens it might be quite problematic. These pens also run out of ink incredibly quickly for some reason. This doesn’t bother me too much as they’re quite cheap (only about USD $3.00 for a pack of 8) and I can buy them at my local grocery store, but it can be a little bit annoying. Overall though, I love these pens so much!

Holiday Card Project 2019
Oh would you look at that; I’m participating in the deviantArt Holiday Card Project again this year! Just like last year, my crafty efforts aren’t really done proper justice by scans or photos, so I’ll be uploading a short video...somewhere (probably Instagram but we’ll see) and then link back to it to hopefully show it off a bit more. It’s funny though, I’d almost forgotten about HCP until I got the notification that it had opened for this year. And yet I was so concerned about having it in the mail on time that I got this one done pretty much in one day. I think last year's card took me closer to 2 days and I was pushing my luck that it would get there in time. My process for this year went as follows: I browsed around on Pinterest for a while, as I hadn’t the foggiest idea what to do. During that process, I latched onto a concept I saw a few times; Christmas lights and the phrase “merry and bright,” and so I went with that. Already I had the idea of the lights being across the top of the card, with a real piece of thread (which would later be changed to wire as the idea occurred to me while I was digging for some other supplies) connecting them. After some thought, I decided I wanted to add some cotton to the bottom to add a little more pizzazz. Because if last year’s HCP taught me anything, it’s that I like to go big or go home for the occasion. And I knew where I could get some too; the fields next to the house have already been picked for this year, but there was still a good amount of cotton leftover on the stalks near the edges. Let me tell you, I have a newfound appreciation for whoever invented a mechanical way to take the seeds out of cotton, because gosh darn it if that process is not far more tiresome than you’d think! I think I finally did manage to get them all out, but now I know why it’s probably just easier to buy cotton or polyester fiberfill. XD Anyway. With my mind made up and a handle full of cotton at the ready, I started on the actual card part. In the past, for my card needs I’ve usually used some of the pre-folded & cut cards my mom has on hand, but this time I didn’t feel like bothering her about it. So instead I grabbed a piece of my gold-shimmer cardstock and cut it down so that once I folded it I’d have a 5” x 7” card. (As that’s what Google told me was a fairly common size for greeting cards and would fit comfortably in most standard envelopes.) Then I used my trick from my book-making endeavors of using the edge of scissors to “score” the folding line on one side of the card to make that process easier. In trying to make some stamps I didn’t end up using magically appear from whoever they were hiding, I found some metallic gold stripey paper in my stash and had the idea to cover the outside of the card with it, maybe. At the time I was a little bit skeptical if I wanted to do that, but I pulled it out and set it on the desk anyway so I could have the option if I wanted it. And as you can see, I ended up deciding to go for it, though at this point in the process I simply measured out and cut it as needed; I wouldn’t attach it until later. Then I paused and used the scrap cardstock pieces to test some pens and such, only to find I was only minimally (at best) interested in using any of them. I had some ideas to incorporate certain things but they were things I couldn’t really try out until I had more of the card finished, and some things I couldn’t figure out solutions for until then either. So I swatched out some marker colors and started practicing on some print outs of the Christmas light shape—which is fortunately had the foresight to do the said printing out before I got into the thick of everything else—only to find that I just really was not happy with the blends I was getting. I think the main problem is that I just didn’t have certain colors I needed, but the glowing/fade effect I was trying to get was also totally new territory for me and I seemed to only get worse the more times I tried it. In the end, I picked out a “base” shade for each Christmas light color from the markers and then selected a dark, a “true color” and a highlight from my Prismacolor pencils to do the shading instead. There were still challenges to be had, but this system worked a lot better for me. Benefits of being a mixed media artist: if one medium just isn’t doing it for you, you can bring in others to level the playing field The lights then got bright shine spots courtesy of my white Gelly roll pen and their little silver bits I did with a silver Art Philosophy watercolor. Even though I was already anticipating the silver getting kind of lost against the gold in the background. I had a vision and I was sticking to it. In addition to that vision, once the lights were safe to handle I glued them to a piece of foam and then left them alone to dry, figuring it would be easier and simpler to cut them out if I only had to do it once. As such, the edges aren’t super smooth, but otherwise, I think that was the right call. While they dried, I then attached the gold-stripe paper to the card surface and started thinking about where and how I would implement the text parts of the card. (And at some point I took a break to figure out the full inside and outside please, as originally all I was going on was “merry and bright,” though I don’t remember when exactly in the process that was.) Here, I had the idea that black paper might look cool. The only black paper I have is a pad of Crayola stuff that I think is actually for practicing calligraphy or hand lettering or something? My original plan was to take one of the pages out and use the blank back, but as I filled through I saw some of the cut out frame-y things and took a look to see if any of them would work for what I wanted/needed, and you can see the two I picked out. Though the one on the inside of the card had only the black and gray/silver originally; the colors I added by hand with my gel pens since it felt like it really needed it. The black paper on the inside also needed a little more attention than the one on the outside. I didn’t cut either of them perfectly straight, but there were a lot more distracting elements that were going to be on the outside, so it was far less noticeable there. On the inside, I ended up going around the edge with some gold and white washi tape that when well with the outside of the card to camouflage the uneven edges. By the time I had all the various papers properly attached to each other and the top edge inside of the card decorated with a strip of glitter tape and a repeating stamp of Christmas lights to tie in with the outside, I felt the lights were dry enough to cut out, so I did. And that meant that the /real/ card assembly could begin. I punched little holes in the tops of the lights for the wire I’d add in later and then fiddled with their placement for a bit before gluing them down...which I then I had to wait for about twenty minutes before I could proceed if I wanted things to dry mostly flat. So while that took its sweet time to dry I went back to the Crayola black paper pad to one of the pages with a grid on it to practice writing out the words for both the outside and inside of the card. In doing so, I discovered that the uni-ball Signo white pen, while bolder and brighter than the Gelly roll, made my cursive almost illegible by virtue of having a thicker tip. Which is why I went with the Gelly roll instead. Just printed handwriting didn’t feel right; I really wanted the fancier look of the cursive. However, I also wanted whoever gets the card to actually be able to read it too. Eventually, the lights, while not fully dry, were dry enough that I could comfortably move on with the assembly. And hindsight, perhaps I should’ve tried stringing the lights onto the wire before gluing them down. The main issue I had was that once I got the wire poked through the hole, it’d bump into the card on the other side and then not want to go anywhere at all. I had to play with it each time to get the wire to come all the way through so I could pull it to the next one. Or maybe that would’ve made the gluing process more difficult than it was worth? We’ll never know. And then I got to attach the cotton. That actually ended up being a much smoother process than I anticipated, as the cotton doesn’t really separate from itself unless you pull it apart, so once I had parts of a clump glued down they were pretty stationary. This was also the first time I dared use my crafting heat gun since I purchased it (which was a while ago; after reading the warnings the first time I’ve been too chicken to use it for fear of catching something on fire by accident ) as I originally thought I’d need more glue and I’d need to glue some clumps on, dry them, and then glue some more. Fortunately, I seemingly put my big girl panties on for nothing as, after the initial layer of glue, I really only needed to glue a couple of other clumps down separately, and as I mentioned the cotton stick to the wet glue well enough on its own. But I had psyched myself up and gotten the thing set up, so once all the cotton was glued down I used the heat gun to dry the glue faster anyway. I was amped up the whole time but I, fortunately, did not burn anything in the process! I did end up going back and adding some blue gel pen to the black paper on the inside, as that was the only color not there and it felt sorely lacking, giving the lights elsewhere on the card. But other than that, once the cotton was all squared away, the card was done. And I’ll be honest; I still like the card I made last year, but I think I’ve really outdone myself this time. There’s just something about the style of this card I enjoy so much more.
It’s equally over-the-top (as is my crafting specialty ) but it’s more refined, somehow, I think. Either way, all that’s left to do now is mail it off and hope that the recipient is as pleased with the card as I am. I can’t believe I’ve actually finished with it this early though! That’s so unlike me; I’m usually the one sneaking things in right on top of the deadline. But hey that means now I have one less thing on my to-do list so I can focus on other things...which may or may not include a holiday-themed kitty drawing in the works... ____ Artwork © me, MysticSparkleWings ____ Where to find me & my artwork: My Website | Commission Info + Prices | Ko-Fi | dA Print Shop | RedBubble | Twitter | Tumblr | Instagram

What about a teenage modern au where Claire gets hired as a tutor for Jamie because we know from some of Jamie's stories that he didn't really like school when he was young.
This is a little bit of an abstract take on this prompt but since it’s 100 years in Britain since women achieved the right to vote (in some capacity) I thought I’d pen something with some baring on the strong actions of those women involved in the suffragette movement. Here’s to them, may we be ever grateful for their stance and politics MBD
Deeds Not Words: Part 1 -
Introduction: 1905: The Past:
The coach rattled -the ancient cobbles beneath the Edinburgh streets shaking the wooden carriage as they forged ever onwards. Dim shafts of light penetrated through the curtains and the sides of the car, the beams throwing deep orange shadows across the paneled floor as Claire watched, her hands wound tightly together.
“I just have to pick up some papers, and then we’ll be onwards to Glasgow, my girl.” Lamb said kindly, his hand hovering over her tightly linked ones (her pale skin encased in the rough lace of the gloves her mother had worn at a similar age - in a completely different scenario) as if to offer some comfort. As much as he felt able to give.
Another move.
Another upheaval. But at least Claire felt like some weight had been lifted from her shoulders.
Decisions had been made. Choices that she hadn’t been privy to because she was too young to effectively understand what was being asked of her -or offered *to* her, as she had been righteously told later.
But, as young as she was, she was still intelligent. Smart enough to tutor the lairds youngest surviving son when he was struggling to comprehend his own studies. But it wasn’t him she was promised to. No, he had just been her educational charge. Instead, Claire had been unwittingly betrothed to another.
But hearts don’t necessarily beat the way others require, and Claire had spent much of her young life nurturing the wrong Fraser brother…and subsequently falling for his natural charm - despite their five year age gap.
Neither had done anything. Though it was clear that, as Jamie grew older, their dual infatuation increased.
Their lessons became longer as Claire and Jamie talked long into the night, increasing their bond with one another, and deepening the worries of her uncle (though Brian Fraser exercised his patriarchal role with added humour, using every opportunity to chuckle at Lambs worried glances).
‘He’s just a lad, Claire…’
The words rang in her ears as the distinct bray of the horses in the stables nearby pierced the air, pulling Claire from her memories.
‘…we haven’t done anything wrong.’ She had begged when Lamb had announced their move, knowing from the sad glint in his eyes that he meant to take her away from temptation. ‘Why can’t we just stay…here?’
She should have married William, the elder of the boys. She should have learned faster what had been bequeathed to her and been smarter about concealing her true feelings. But she had a glass face and nothing she could and would say to uncle Lamb would stop him from uprooting their simple lives and moving them to a place where she couldn’t disappoint him with her poor life choices.
‘It simply isn’t done, Claire, I’m sorry,’ he had said softly, ‘it’s my choice, as your guardian, and I cannot allow it.’
“Yes, uncle.” She replied, answering both to their present conversation (and one buried in the past), finally, her voice low and calm though she felt far from it. “I’m sure wherever we’re going it will be ...suitable.”
– — –
1909 - 4 years later: The Present:
Sneaking across the top level of their apartments, Claire slid her fingers beneath the loose floorboard in order to pry the wood from its temporary holding.
Time had been good for her in some respects, she had grown more independent, the scent of the city fueling her ever increasing desire to be wild and free. Lamb had despaired of her, cutting the chord, metaphorically, as Claire proved too hard to pin down - matrimony and a quiet life as a wife and mother seemed beyond her and an ever increasing part of him understood that.
‘You’re a bachelor!’ She had often complained, her protestations growing less timid as she aged. ‘Why do you get to live as you want, yet I have to marry whomever you choose for me?’
Lamb couldn’t accurately answer her question. He simply shrugged his shoulders with a withering glance and repeated the oft spoken words - ‘…it is simply what is done, my dear.’
Only it wasn’t what Claire thought should be done, she mused as she pulled the dusty broadsheet from its hiding place beneath the boards of the attic.
The headline was clear, though small and not the title for the paper for which it had been penned. But it was there nonetheless. Women’s liberation movements had been increasing in popularity. Manchester in 1905, the year which she’d been coaxed from the only home she’d known and away to the city, had produced a society of women who were not in favour of the maniacal rule they’d been placed under by their superiors. The WSPU had spoken and Claire’s heart beat with intense pride as she re-read the words that had emboldened her and continued to do so.
No longer did she wish to languish beneath men. Emmeline Pankhurst had risen as a shining example to her and she would no longer hide away, arguing her point over and over as Lamb continued to placate her.
Using her position as a tutor to some of the more well off local children, Claire had met Geillis Duncan the year previous. Along with Gellie, Glenna Fitzgibbons and Laoghaire Mackenzie and a few other intelligent women in the area, Claire had begun to show her support for the Glasgow branch of the WSPU. Their meetings were mostly conducted quietly, the cloak and dagger operation instilled to protect their powerful and subversive opinions. Glenna and Geillis were married, both powerful men who agreed and helped to assist their wives in their views. Herself and Laoghaire were both still alone, their position in the local community making them eager talking points for the men who still thought it laughable that two pretty young things were still unwed and childless.
None of her companions knew about Jamie Fraser.
Unwrapping the newsprint, Claire pulled the sgian dubh from its tight concealment. Rubbing the fading font, she held it closely to her chest. The Fraser crest was still visible, the engraving carved deep into the ornate metal as the heat of her fingers warmed it up. It was the only thing she had left to remember him by and the joy of having it close to her with the words of Pankhurst keeping it safely hidden from view solidified her opinion that if she couldn’t have Jamie, she wouldn’t have anyone at all.
It was a childish notion, but one she was invested in nonetheless.
The image of him was fuzzy now, the years tainting their friendship but she could still remember the sea-blue tint of his eyes as he watched her read aloud to him in Latin. They had never crossed the boundaries with one another, him being too young factoring in that decision - but their warmth towards one another was obvious to see. Had she only been a few years younger and there would have been no quibbling over their relationship, but she was too old to be hovering around a teenager; no matter how mature Jamie was for his age.
Sighing, Claire stashed the blade back where she found it and grabbed for a small satchel that she’d hidden a little lower down. It contained as many fliers as she could stuff in there, enough to coat many of the Glaswegian streets in the WSPU’s very vocal propaganda. Steeling herself, she wrapped her shawl around her shoulders and snuck downstairs.
Lamb was still sleeping, she could hear his light snores filtering underneath the door. Claire knew that he had an early coach to catch to the coast for his latest business trip to a small freeholding in Ireland. He wouldn’t be away long, but it was long enough that Claire didn’t need to worry about him checking on her before he left.
“Come on, Claire!” Geillis hissed as Claire slunk from the house and trudged the small distance from her residence to where Gellie was hiding.
Pulling her hat down lower over her ears, Claire tutted, rolling her eyes at her partner in crime. “Just give it a rest would you, Geillis. You know I’d never leave you here loitering in this alleyway like a reprobate. I just had to make sure I didn’t wake the whole house as I left, aye?”
Being English, the basic Scots variants that she had picked up over the years still sounded foreign on her tongue -though she had long since given in to trying to tamper them. Geillie, however, with her broad Glaswegian accent always tisked at Claire’s attempts at fitting in and her eyes shone with mirth at Claire’s use of the word ‘aye’ instead of a simple ‘yes’.
“The others will be waiting for us, lass,” she said instead, choosing to ignore the colloquial term and move on with their plans for the evening, “do ye have the posters?”
“Of course.” She muttered, flashing the pile that were stowed safely away in her large leather satchel. “That was my one job.”
Taking Claire by the hand, Geillie tugged them back out into the streets and they set off, quickly, in search of the rest of the party.
Rain had coated the cobbles and both women struggled not to lose their footing as they scrambled from one end of the city to the other. All candles had been extinguished in the windows and the streets were devoid of life. Most of the city was still asleep, not even the early risers had begun to wake yet. As quietly as they were able, Geillis and Claire slipped further into the heart of Glasgow, their excitement palpable as they got closer and closer to their intended destination.
“Did ye hear?” Laoghaire mumbled, her words shaky and light as she reached out and grabbed for Claire and Geillis as they approached the small group of gathered women that had congregated in Glenna’s living room.
“Heard what?” Geillis asked, looking from Claire to Laoghaire.
“Ye ken they’ve been making arrests now - they say we’re breaching the peace or some such nonsense.” Laoghaire griped obviously frustrated at the state of their current situation.
“Aye, I ken, get on wi’ it lass.” Geillie said, prodding her playfully in the side as Claire scratched her head thoughtfully.
“Weel, a lassie went on hunger strike the other day, the news is all over the place. They set her free! The police dinna want deid lassies on their hands, aye? So they set her free to recover. She was ailing quite badly they say but she refused to give in and eat.”
Claire’s heart beat double time in her chest as she listened, a hum of approval floating through their congregation. The small loophole in the law had allowed the woman, one Marion Wallace Dunlop, to be released on grounds of ill-health - meaning the county holding her wouldn’t be responsible for her death should she perish from her ordeal. As luck would have it, she was on the mend (so Glenna said, with a joyful spring in her step as she passed out the sashes to the gathered women) and had been talking about her successful ‘escape’ from incarceration to as many people as possible.
“Would ye do it, Claire?” Laoghaire asked excitedly as she pulled the painted ribbon over her petite head and allowed it to rest neatly on her shoulders. “If ye were arrested, would ye no’ eat to further the cause?”
“Of course!” Claire answered truthfully. “I haven’t come this far, Laoghaire to let them lock me up. I’d do whatever I had to. Truly.”
“Me too,” she returned, eager to show her own willing, “there’s no going back now.”
“No,” Claire whispered, collecting her small bag from the ground now it had been almost emptied of leaflets, “there definitely is not.”
It was a few more hours before the women picked up their leaflets and placards and went on their way. The sun had still to rise and the streets were only now just starting to fill with early risers on the way to the factories. It was that distinct bustle that rallied the troup, their eager hands tightening around the wooden spears that held their banners in place. The wood bit into Claire’s hands as she followed directly behind Gellie and out onto the busying cobbles.
With her head held high, Claire scowled meaningfully at a group of passing men who looked enraged by their clear message. Unwilling to stop, she narrowed her eyes, her fingers twitching as if she was restraining herself but the heat of the blood in her veins made the reasonable side of her cower and she stamped her feet with more vigor as she turned on her heel and marched through the growing crowd, back to the men who’d given her such a filthy look.
“What’s the matter?!” She spat, her cheeks red with anger as she squared up to the two broad men, her eyes alight with fire as she confronted them. “Do our views upset your civil liberties, gentlemen?” She continued, hissing the word ‘gentlemen’ at them like it was a dirty word.
“Come on…” she goaded when they refused to speak but maintained eye contact with her. “You are bold enough to scorn me with your impolite gaze, but you cannot speak for yourselves?”
“Claire!” Geillis whispered, suddenly appearing behind her friend as she took Claire by the arm and attempted to pull her away. “Come wi’ me now, lass. It isna worth it.”
“I’d listen to your friend…if I were you.” The taller of the two men spoke, finally, his blunt, pretentious English accent piercing the quiet morning air as he cockily quirked his brow at her - his dismissive attitude causing Claire to grit her teeth - her anger only rising by his arrogance.
“You…” she belted out, her voice echoing, the wisps of it hovering in the air long after she had begun her fatal statement.
“Claire no!” Geillis and Laoghaire chorused together - but too late.
“…utter arse.” Claire finishing, dropping her sign and slapping the man before she could even take stock of her actions.
Her palm throbbed as it connected with his cheek, the weight of her actions solidifying like lead in her belly the moment the fog cleared and clarity resumed. Claire’s mouth fell open in shock as she took one shaky step backwards as if she were about to make a run for it.
Geillie saw the decision in her movements and took hold of Laoghaire’s arm whilst still keeping hold of the arm that lay limp by Claire’s side.
But the second man, the one who had remained brash but silent, was upon Claire before she had chance to follow Geillis’s instructions. Gripping her wrist tightly, he pulled her to him - yanking her from Gellie’s grip as the other women loitered with fear in their eyes.
“You are going to regret that, madam,” he said, a strange aura of calm surrounding him as he flexed his fingers as if to perpetuate his worrying message.
“U-unhand me.” Claire balked, her tone belying her concern as she made one feeble attempt to pull herself from his grasp. With Lamb about to leave the country, Claire panicked. Any trouble that these men were likely to get her into would either derail his important business or render her isolated and alone at the mercy of the penal system. Cursing internally, she held her breath as her mind worked overload, trying to comprehend how much bother she might be in.
By the look on his face, a lot, she thought, swallowing around the massive lump that had suddenly appeared in her throat.
She wanted to be sick, but she wouldn’t show any weakness. Even now.
Chuckling under his breath, her captor allowed a careful smile to tug at the corners of his mouth. It was not a pleasant smile, nor was it a humorous laugh and Claire’s nervousness intensified.
“Allow me to introduce myself,” he began with no hint of niceness in his tone. His words were ice cold and it sent shivers along Claire’s spine. “I am Captain Jonathan Randall. And you are under arrest.”
–
The steady sound of dripping water kept Claire lucid enough as she sat on the small cot. It was the only piece of furniture in the draughty cell keeping her from the damp, soiled floor. In only a few moments the local bobbies had appeared, the captain’s friend having signalled them from a few streets beyond. Geillis had tried to reason with the police men but to no avail. Claire had been cuffed and walked across the city to the jail where she had been stripped of her jacket, shoes and socks and placed in her current location.
The likelihood of Lamb still being close enough for them to contact was slim and Claire had to bite her lip to keep the tears at bay.
Without a guardian to sign her release, she would be left here to rot and there was no telling how long her uncle would be out of contact.
Randall hadn’t said another word to her but he had accompanied them all back to the station, encouraging his companion to make a full statement and ensuring Claire was treated appropriately. Her breach of the peace and ‘physical assault’ had already made the rounds in the streets and there was nothing that Glenna (once she had been caught up on the events) could do to override the decision. Captain Randall had too much sway.
“Miss,” the elderly desk clerk mumbled through the door after he’d finished banging to wake her up, “your uncle is no longer in residence in Glasgow. The captain said I should tell you to prepare yourself for a long stay.”
The feeling of hopelessness wrapped around her as she pulled her legs up to her chest. She had spent the whole day locked away. She had been fed, but the story Laoghaire had told them at dawn had struck a chord, though she hadn’t expected to be able to test the theory so soon after being made aware of its significance. With that in mind, Claire had let her small portion of stew go cold and her stomach rumbled audibly at the memory of it.
As the key clinked in the lock, Claire’s head snapped up as the door squealed on its hinges.
“It seems like you have a guardian angel, mistress Beauchamp,” the same elderly clerk muttered as if irked by the fact, “you are free to go.” He said, sweeping his hand in front of him in a sarcastic motion that would have frustrated Claire had she not been overwhelmed by her sudden freedom.
Back at the front of the station she was handed her belongings and given a small amount of time to put her shoes back on before being escorted out and onto the steps of the police station.
“A word of advice,” the police man who’d helped to sign her release papers said behind her, his stoic gaze causing her to bite her tongue as he continued, “dinna get on the wrong side of the Randall brothers, mistress.”
“Was the other man…?”
“The captains brother, oh aye, lass. A powerful man as well. Yer just lucky your gentleman friend,” he said, pointing to a small carriage that was waiting patiently close to the station, “had a smart enough argument to aid yer release.”
“Thank you.” She replied nodding once and walking down the few steps towards her transportation.
Opening the door with some trepidation, Claire’s heart almost lept into her mouth as she half expected uncle Lamb to appear, a disappointed look on his face as he tisked and helped her into the carriage. But instead a flash of auburn caught her eye, the lose curls making her breath catch in her throat as Jamie Fraser turned to meet her eye.
“Ye appear to have gotten yerself into a wee bit of a swivet have ye no’?” He asked sedately offering out his hand to help her into the compartment as his carriageman closed the door and readied himself to pull away from the curb.
“What are you doing here?” She whispered, sitting still as the carriaged moved off, a slight waver in her voice.
“I came for ye,” he said honestly, “if ye’ll have me, mistress Beauchamp?”

yo where do u get ur pens i wanna have aesthetics too
AHHHH FAM SO GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU AGAIN!
i buy nearly everything “studyblr-ish” from amazon. some tips when ordering internationally-choose “expedited shipping” at checkout, otherwise it will literally take FOREVER for the product to arrive. also, read reviews carefully! i once bought some notebooks from muji because i thought they were b5 size (letter size) and they actually arrived in a5 size (pocket size) and i couldn’t use them for lecture notes like i had planned.
if you plan to buy muji stuff, don’t use the muji website as it’s MUCH cheaper on amazon or at an actual muji store.
look for a stationery store in your area if you’re interested in specific items. however, the selections in store may be limited and more expensive than online.
even if you don’t live near a real stationery shop, you can sometimes find “studyblr stuff” in your area. it’s all about knowing where to look. you can get some good stuff at crafts stores like michaels/hobby lobby, office depot, and target. crafts stores are probably a better bet if you want fineliners, brush markers, gelly rolls, or good bujo supplies. i’ve purchased staedtler and pentel products at office depot (not a great selection there tbh). target has a pretty good pen selection, including a pack of fifteen real zebra mildliners. some bookstores sell leuchtturm1917 and moleskine products as well.
jetpens and aliexpress also are good places to buy stationery you can’t find at office depot or a stationery/craft store. however, these platforms don’t have free shipping so i just use amazon (even though sometimes the stuff is cheaper on these other websites.) some study accounts (not me lol) have affiliate codes that you can use to get a discount on your purchase (they get a small commission from your use of the code so if that bothers you don’t use those links).
above all, avoid instagram stationery stores. they sell stuff for MUCH higher prices than any of these other stores i mentioned and a lot of people have mentioned that the quality of the products is questionable at best.
good luck shopping!

Meet The Writer Tag
I was tagged by @cherish-writes, thank you! And the questions were by @somethingwriterly :)
1. It’s the end of the world, or something like it. You need to burn books to stay warm. Which book off of your shelf burns first?
The dictionary ;)
2. If your writing could convey a message that you, a dear reader, or the world need desperately hear, what message would you most wish to convey?
That fiction should be fun! Doesn't matter if your type of fun is hardcore angst or light-and-fluffy romance. (this is totally for me.)
3. Has an OC ever said something that surprised you? Whether it be a nugget of wisdom or a fact you didn’t know you knew or something that made you feel emotional?
This is a really cool question and I just don't remember anything yet from my recent draft.
4. Do you collect things writing or reading related? Funko Pop figures? Notebooks? Bookmarks? Pens? Plushies? Snacks for designated reading and or writing time and so on?
Not really...collect, but I buy too many notebooks, especially if I find them at yard sales. I also love Gelly Roll pens. They are a memory of my childhood and I have a mug of them on my desk!
5. A celebrity author you admire reads a book you’ve published, speaking words of praise that will appear on the cover of your book’s next print. Hooray. Now they’ve written a new book, which you’ve read, however it was not your cup of tea. Their publisher potentially wants to use a blurb from you about it. Do you tell the truth, or manufacture polite praise?
Not my cup of tea doesn't necessarily mean a bad book, so I would think there is something I could have enjoyed in it.
6. A magic spell befalls you. You are sucked into one of your WIPs/short stories/etc. The only way to break the spell is to convince at least three OCs that you are their creator and the creator of their world. Which OCs would most likely believe you? Which would laugh in your face? What would you do or say to convince them?
ohmygod. No one would believe me. Guess I'm stuck there.
7. You’re stuck having one of your original villains over for dinner. How does it go?
Overally calm. I might need therapy afterwards.
8. Has writing benefited you, brought relief, or improved your life in any way?
Yes, I would think so. Posting my fanfics online helped get over the fear of sharing personal works.
9. You discover that whatever you write about comes to pass/becomes reality. Newly aware of this strange ability and after writing about winning some money, what’s the second thing you write about?
Ha! I love how the question skirts around most peoples first answer, lol! But there are a lot of other people who I would like to write some money or nice material things into their lives, does that count? :)
10. For whatever reason you’re forced into using a pen name. It can be as modest, or outlandish and eccentric as you wish; what name do you choose?
Oh, I totally have a pen name planned. Too early for debut, but I would say it's pretty modest.

My name is Sophia and I’m from Yeppoon in Central Queensland, Australia. I grew up in Brisbane where my creativity and love of all things art was fostered and encouraged by my family including my late grandmothers, Lavinia, an abstract artist and Nina, a creator. Both Nanna and Gran shared my passion and encouraged me to explore it by sharing their knowledge and skills in art, sewing, crotchet, cooking and mosaics to name a few.
I have always had a love of creating and experimenting and over the years my creative endeavours have included sewing, scrapbooking, card making, painting, jewelery making, mosaics and the list goes on.
I recall of the years, some of my proudest moments were when my creations were upgraded from the fridge to everyday use or display. My Gran and Nanna fondly used coasters, bags and quilts I had made for them for many many years. My parents proudly displayed a triptych painting of mine above their bed for years even when the colours of the painting didn’t match their décor and my sister displays some of my artwork in her son’s room.
After many years of paper crafts I turned back to my love of acrylic painting and began painting at every opportunity. The love grew and spread and became a passion. Not so long ago, I was gifted a watercolour set, and with this, endless opportunities to create opened up.
I work full time but use nights and weekends to practice, perfect and create. I draw inspiration from the world around me, my family and friends – the friend that cooks eggplant parmigiana, my sister sharing a precious moment with her son, my friend’s love of owls, my own love of cactus and animals. I love to create artwork that brings joy to me as well as others and I generally opt for bright colours.
I use reference photos to sketch out work and often this is the longest part of the creative process as drawing and sketching are not my fortes. Once I have sketched out a design, the painting process commences. For watercolours, I typically use Arches 300gsm paper and I prefer smooth or hot pressed, however, I have been known to paint on whatever I can find.
I find the most economical way to source paper is to buy large sheets then cut them to size – generally to 12x12inches, A4 or A5 depending on the project. I use Winsor & Newton Masking Fluid as well as Micron pens and the gelly roll white pens to help with both outlines and highlighting/shading.
In terms of watercolours, I use QOR Watercolours and Prima Watercolour Confections and I make as many colour charts as I possibly can to ensure I best utilise the colours I have. My most surprising colour mix and my current favourite is Dioxazine Purple and Yellow Ochre. I love the soft muted colours that are created with this mix. I recently also discovered metallic watercolours and I instantly fell in love and I have been adding metallic accents to nearly everything I do lately. If you haven’t tried metallic watercolours I highly recommend them!
I am always on the lookout for new ways to be creative, experiment and to integrate art into every day and I have recently been experimenting with Prismacolor Pencils and Scratchboard Art thanks to my family who always seems to know what arty presents to buy me. I recently completed a scratchboard piece with two zebras, that I finished off with watercolour for shading, which shows the versatility of watercolours across many media.

Ash’s Inktober Art Supply Megalist
a Because Inktober is such a huge event and because it’s relatively new and doesn’t have a huge masterlist of art supply lists associated with it, I have decided to post and maintain a masterlist of art supplies ranging from inks, pens, and sketchbooks to use as well as art supply stores online and other useful hints based off of my own, my friends, and other helpful artists who have given me pointers on this site.
INKS
Author’s Note: Anything called India Ink is waterproof by default most of the time. Shellac based ink tends to have a sheen, though there are exceptions. Most if not all color ink aside from black and white will not be light fast.
Dr. PH Martin’s Black Star India Ink
It is water proof and lightproof and does not contain a sheen like most other illustration inks, which means it won’t have light reflections when you scan or photograph your work. I have used it in dip pens and brushes, and it works well even when diluted with water to create shading effects. It has a rich black tone. Not entirely copic proof.
Koh-I-Noor Water-resistant Inks
These inks are water-proof and ideal to use in dip pens. It isn’t lightfast, at least the color versions aren’t, but the black and white inks are. Black and white are opaque colors while the other colors (numbering 17 in all) are transparent, similar to watercolors. Unlike a few others on this list, they come in plastic bottles rather than glass.
Yasutomo Black Sumi Ink
It’s a good brush ink, although there are some drawbacks. One would be the fact that if exposed to air long enough it will get thick, as well as the fact that it has a strong scent due to the fact that it does contain various eye and skin irritants, so don’t get any on your hands. It is very waterproof though, and works nicely if you know how to use it. It is not copic proof. It does come in a plastic container. There’s a vermillion color I haven’t used, but looks nice and bright.
Windsor-Newton Inks
Basically the go to for all and any illustration inks you’ll ever worked with. This is the ink you’ll use in art class (at least the art classes I’ve been to). They come in two different sets, though you are most likely to see the first set. They also come in metallic colors, which is a good thing if you want to go fancy. They are waterproof, but not light proof, so care must be taken when displaying them. They come in glass bottles that do not tip over.
Deleter Black 4
The ink for manga artists. It’s not only a rich solid black, it’s also resistant to fading from erasers, as well as being copic/marker proof. Excellent to use with dip pen and brush. Also waterproof, like most Deleter brand inks.
Keimei Manga Pen Ink
Not only is it waterproof and copic proof, it also has a matte finish, excellent for scanner in your work.
PENS
Staedler Pigment Liner
Lightproof, waterproof, and smear proof. Similar to microns, but from what I’ve heard better. It is erasable though on certain surfaces. Does not bleed through and won’t dry out for 18 hours if left uncapped.
Sakura Pigma Microns
Won’t feather, won’t bleed through, and a favorite of many artists. It is not Copic proof however, so try to use them after using copic. I’m not too big of a fan of these, as the think nibs do break if you use them on sharp curves and such.
Marvy Le Pen
This is becoming a surefire favorite of mine. Not only is it quite cheap, it’s also waterproof and copic proof (the permanent pen however, is not copic proof). It has a stronger nib than the Micron and it does comes in a brush tip, unlike a few others.
Windsor-Newton PITT
One of the more famous pens used for illustration, the PITT pen comes in a variety of nib sizes as well as brush pens. They are waterproof, lightfast, and acid free. They are not copic proof however, and should be used after a copic drawing.
Pentel Technica Stylo Pen
I think these pens are servely underrated. Not only are they a cheap alternative to a lot of other pens on this list, they are also waterproof and copic proof. They come in a variety of sizes and excellent with any medium, including watercolors. However you need to watch out as the ball point can get clogged up. I own at least four and they have lasted me for at least a year.
Pentel Color Brush Pen
Waterproof and really neat for those who like using brush pens, these are nice for those who travel around and use ink. It’s technically a brush pen with a reservoir of black ink you can squeeze out. Warning, there’s a few setbacks, as it does take a while to dry if laying in thick amounts of black ink. It is not copic proof, but can be used on top of copics. A good note of caution is not to squeeze too hard as the ink will drip right out. If the ink runs out, you can refill it with your own ink.
Copic Multiliner
If you are using copics, you should definately have a number of these at your disposal. They are waterproof, smearproof, and won’t bleed through paper. The other good part is the fact that they come in a SP version which can be refilled and reused, although they’re more expensive.
Sakura Gelly Roll
The white pens are excellent for making highlights and contrast.
Watercolors and Markers
Copic Markers
Literally the go to markers and my favorite markers to use overall. They come in a wide variety of colors and types and can be refilled. However they are pricey, but I feel like all in all they are worth the extra cash. Many come in pre-made sets in certain color combinations, though I would start in either a blue palette, a red palette or a grey palette to test them out. Like many markers, they will bleed through, and I would use either marker paper or a thick paper to use them on.
Sharpies
Not too much of a fan of these. but they are cheap and found everywhere. They come in a range of sizes and types, but like most markers, they bleed through paper. They are waterproof and fast drying.
Windsor Newton Watercolors
These come in either pans or tubes, but I use a mix of them. The ones I use are cotman, which are the cheaper version and comes in a plastic travel palette kit which can be put in a lot of places. I have added a number of tubes, due to the number of colors avaliable. They have rich and vibrant colors. The pan colors don’t mix as well in my experience, but the tube colors work lovely. The fact that they come in travel kits is the main reason why I put them on here.
M. Graham Watercolors
A professional set of watercolors, and they have super rich colors. They only seem to come in tubes, which aren’t as good for travel.
Ecoline Liquid Watercolors
I wasn’t sure to put these in inks, but given that they are called watercolors, I’m putting them here. They are dye based and bright and come in wide mouth jars. They can also be dluted with water. Unlike any of the watercolors here, you can use them in dip pens and airbrushes.
Sketchbooks
Author Notes: The paper to get is paper that is 100 gsm and up, as anything 100 gsm and up will hold to water better. The higher you get the better the paper will hold to washes and won’t buckle.
Moleskien Cahier Journal
I personally find the whole Moleskien brand pretty expensive, but they are recommended by the Inktober site. However, you’ll need to watch out as ink won’t dry fast and markers will bleed through the paper
Bee Creative Mix Media/Marker
I really like this paper as it’s thick and holds up to watercolors and markers well. It also doesn’t warp as badly as the watercolor version of this sketchbook. It has a thick black cover but it is wirebound so watch out for shoving it into backpacks and bags.
Bee Sketchbooks
These tend to have thicker paper, and good tooth for pen and ink, copics and illustration.
Canson Sketchbooks
A lot of these are good for watercolors and pen and ink, especially the Mix Media Art Book, Artist Series Mix Media, and the field books. The XL series is also great for those looking to save a little for a big bang.
Derwent Sketchbooks
These are a thing, but unfortunately the only one I can find at the moment is one that has premade designs in it.
Online Stores
Oozak
I have used this store in the past and it has some great deals on Copics
Jetpens
A new store I have discovered, it offers a large variety of pens, inks, and nibs
Blick’s
A very famous art store, they do offer gifts in your online purchases and have some good shipment deals
Poses and Reference
Senshi-Stock
Offers a lot of awesome poses, must be on DevArt to view. They also have a Pateron if you want to support them.
Pose-Maniacs
Rather limited, but good for some poses
Photo Reference for Comic Artists
A site I just discovered which has lots of royalty free pose references ranging from action and everyday to clothing reference
Music
Dark5 Radio
Offers dark syth-techno tunes
Electronic Gems
Some really good tunes here
Artzie Music
Mainly Future Funk and Vaporwave
Walt Ribeiro
Ever wanted to hear “Take on Me” done by an orchestra? This is the place
NOTES
Have at least two erasers at your disposal, one of them should be a kneaded eraser as they lift graphite marks and do not leave a dusty mess.
It’s alright to draw with pencil first
Take breaks to drink water and stretch every 30 minutes or so
It’s good to invest in B nibs and manga art nibs if you plan on using bottled ink. Maru and school points are the best for manga and illustration style.
Round and liner brushes are the best brushes to use for inking lines
You can plan ahead your drawings, sometimes it helps.
Listen to music while drawing helps in getting some ideas.

@nick-nocturn
I did this a while ago, but was too timid to actually post it anywhere. I’m a fan of your work Mr. Nocturn, and so I decided to make a piece of fan-art of you in the world of Don’t Starve, because it’s a rather creepy world and the artstyle is gorgeous. (Materials used were, a .5mm lead mechanical pencil, several different Micron pens, a Pentalic set of 12 colored pencils, and a white Gelly Roll pen.)
Featured above are my two personal Don’t Starve OCs, Wander Lost and Wakana(For those who don’t know, every canon playable character’s name begins with a ‘W’, and too often I’ve seen people just name their DS OCs whatever they want without any regard for following canon. Thus my two characters names start with ‘W’.), and @nick-nocturn ‘s four eyed cat form.
Wakana(the biped-dragon thing) primarily uses sign language to communicate(here she is signing one of the forms of “fear/scared”). Although she can also speak normally, she prefers not to because she has exceptionally large teeth, and she doesn’t want to scare anyone.
Wander Lost(the pony) can understand her sign language, though obviously can’t perform it himself, and often translates for those who don’t understand her. For those wondering about his lantern, it’s his “Starting Item/Special Equipment” that only he has. The lantern itself is an enchanted item that is a source of constant light, and was given to him by a Unicorn friend, who enchanted it.
This post is getting long, but I wanted to write a little story behind this encounter, so there will be a cut in which the story will hide. (also figure I should say this… Yes, I am aware that there are some issues with anatomy, pose, and perspective. I am pleased with how it turned out, given that I am unused to drawing other people’s characters. Also sometimes you just can’t get something to look perfect.)
“Say buddy… you don’t look so good. You should probably go find something to eat.”
Nick Nocturn blinked his four eyes open and sat up painfully. There did not appear to be anyone around to do the speaking… but whoever it was had a point. He was hungry… very hungry.
The four eyed, four armed cat-creature got to his feet, and brushed himself off, taking stock of his current situation. He still had his sweater, which was good, as it was a little cold. Nothing seemed broken, and he didn’t want to attempt to change his shape in this strange world.
The next thing was to figure out how and why he was here. As far as he could tell, he hadn’t been summoned here, wherever here was… not exactly. Had he been summoned, surely whoever had summoned him would have been there, ready to make a deal or contract.
There was little to do besides ponder on what little information he had while he did what whoever-they-were had suggested… finding food. He started walking, but after only a few dozen meters he was brought up short.
The land where he stood was much like a savanna… the grass was yellow and dry, and there were very few trees. The land only a few paces ahead of him was lush and green, and there was a positive forest of tall trees. The dividing line was clean cut, as though someone had perfectly pushed these two Biomes together.
As he stood there, confused but intrigued, he caught a glimpse of desaturated red and blue-ish-purple, and of near pure white. He did not sense any hostility, and he pricked his ears at the sound of a voice.
“-Don’t know what you’re talking about. Maxwell has his reasons for grabbing people from where ever and leaving them here.”
The voice wasn’t especially unusual, though strangely distorted, and Nick hazarded a guess that it was male… however there was no second voice, even as the first replied as if there had been. Someone insane perhaps?
“I’m sure we’ll run into them eventually… I mean… we’ve run into others before, right? Maxwell’s voice carries.”
That was interesting… the name Maxwell had been brought up twice now… perhaps he was the one who had brought Nick here. This other person seemed to know more than he did, and he could only hope that he wouldn’t scare them off.
It was easy to follow them… they weren’t exactly being quiet. The conversation wasn’t totally useful, though Nick did keep as best mental track as he could of possible relevant information, and possible topics to ask about.
At last they were out into a larger area, clear of trees. Nick could see that there were two… people, if you could call them that. One appeared to be a winged equine of some sort, and the other… he hadn’t encountered anything that looked like them before.
“Excuse me!” Nick called out and they both turned instantly to face him. He cautiously attempted to approach, and while both seemed a little uncertain about him, they did not flee… a good sign.
“I’m sorry that I startled you, but I wanted to ask you somethings… since you appear to know a something more about this place than I do. I should introduce myself. My name is Nick Nocturn.”
The strange creature was making a very distinct motion with her hands and arms, but Nick didn’t know what it meant. When the equine spoke, Nick recognised them to be the owner of the voice he’d heard.
“Hello Mister Nocturn… You must be the new person that Maxwell snatched. My name is Wander Lost, but you can wall me whichever part you prefer. My companion here is named Wakana.” The reason his voice was distorted was now explained… He held the wooden handle of a lantern in his mouth.
The other creature, Wakana, made a number of seemingly specific motions with her hands… sign language perhaps? Wander watched her motions out of the corner of his eye, and translated.
“She wants to know what your questions are… and also if we may ask some in return.”
Nick agreed, and asked his first question. “I wanted to know where I am, and how I arrived here, since the two seem connected.”
“Well,” Wander said slowly, “I don’t know that this place actually HAS a name, but we, and the other’s we’ve met, call it Maxwell’s world. As for how you got here, Maxwell himself plucked you from where ever you were, whatever you were doing, and plonked you down here. It’s all a game for him… we live and we die for his amusement, or at least, that’s what we’ve figured.”
“Hmm… what about this Maxwell person? Do you know anything about him?”
“Not much, but as far as either of us know, he’s just the person behind everything that happens here. And he’s kinda a jerk, as you’ll soon learn. speaking of… Wakana, when are the hounds supposed to arrive?”
Wakana signed something that made Wander say several expletives of varying intensity, though all seemed to revolve around two or possibly three beings. Presumably something from where he was from?
“Nick, we need to leave here now… You can come with us back to our camp, but we don’t have long until the hounds arrive, and the camp’s still a ways away. At least a day’s walk, and then the hounds will be here in another day. If you want, we can talk on the way, but we can’t stay here.”
Nocturn had little choice but to follow them as they started walking… surprisingly fast compared to what he had expected.
“What are these hounds? Are they on a schedule or something?”
“Sorta… They usually turn up every ten days… Maxwell sends them after us. They’re really dangerous… I usually end up running, since I’m faster than them, and I’m not much of a fighter… Wakana fights them if she has to… especially if there are fire hounds.”
They continued in silence for a while, Wander appeared to know the way back, since he was leading. Nick’s stomach rumbled, and wakana turned off from them and disappeared into the new tree biome that they were in. She returned moments later, carrying a large handful of berries, and offered them to Nick, who accepted them gratefully.
As Wander had said, they arrived a little before the sun set to the camp. There were berry bushes and little saplings in neat rows. They had a fridge, several chests, a couple tools in a pile, and a second slightly larger pile of what looked like makeshift armor and weapons.
Wakana had already knelt down beside the fire pit, and was trying to get it started. Already the sun was almost gone, and the camp was getting dark… though there was still a good amount of light from Wander’s lantern, it had limited range.
Wakana got the fire going, and threw a number of logs on to get it really burning bright. She walked over to one of the chests and started digging through it, Wander was sorting through the armor and weapons, when the sound of an eerie music box made both of them abandon what they were doing and stand beside the fire.
Nick trotted over to them, and looked around for what they were nervous of. The sight of a shadow hand creeping towards the fire, accompanied by more creepy music, made wakana leap forward and stomp on it, chasing it back into the darkness. A second hand was trying to do the same thing as Wander stamped his hooves down onto it, making it retreat, even as a third hand started creeping forward.
“Step on it! Chase it away from the fire!” The voice wasn’t Wander’s but had an edge to it that made Nick obey, and to his surprise the hand retreated from his paws… but only a little bit.
Taking his que from the pair of them, he pursued the shadow hand until it vanished into the dark, but remained in the very edge of the light from the fire. He sensed that there was something worse waiting out in the darkness that would give even a shapeshifter like him trouble. Returning to the edge of the fire, more shadow hands were already trying to steal the fire, and the others were chasing them back. Nick joined in, making as many hands flee as he could, and with the three of them together, they managed to hold them off until morning.
“Whew,” Wander panted as the sun started to rise, putting his lantern down for the first time and wiping his forehead with a wing, “That’s not something I want to repeat… that was a lot more hands than usual…”
“Than… usual…?” Nick asked, looking between the two, “Who was that other voice last night?”
“That was… me…” Wakana said timidly, wringing her hands, “I don’t usually talk… people tend to be scared of me when I talk… so I use sign language.”
She smiled nervously, and even Nick had to admit, to a human, her exceptionally large and sharp teeth would be intimidating. Nick smiled at her encouragingly, displaying his own teeth to show her that she wasn’t alone in having teeth that scare humans.
(I'll leave off the story here, but if anyone wants me to continue, hit me with a message and I guess I'll write more!)

Roses in Your Eyes
Oh look, a not-Inktober thing! So after my first dive into The Realm of Gouache, I really wanted to play with the medium a little more and try doing some different things with it. More accurately, I wanted to try using the gouache more opaquely, since last time I took a more transparent/watercolor approach. Full disclosure, I actually had the sketch for this done before the gouache set even arrived to me. My original plan was to do the rose part of the "glasses" in the watercolor style from my In Bloom Le Plumes piece, maybe the leaves too, and then do the hair and possibly the skin in the more opaque gouache style. That was the plan so that I could try to get the most out of both sides to what gouache can do. But after I got the gouache and swatched it out, I wanted to try something a little more experimental before I jumped into this drawing so that I'd have a better handle on what I was actually working with. So that's where the first gouache painting came in. So it was after that when I made the decision to commit a little more closely to using gouache in it's more opaque form. The concept for the drawing is something of a play on the phrase "looking through rose-colored glasses," (or whatever the full version of that phrase is, you know what I mean). The original expression, as I'm sure we all know, means seeing something as being better than it actually is, usually because of personal bias. This idea takes it to a bit of an extreme; the glasses aren't just tinted in a rose color, they're straight-up roses. Instead of just viewing something as better than it actually is, the person is willfully ignoring or otherwise blinded to seeing things as they really are entirely. And possibly hurting themselves in the process, if the roses have thorns. (I didn't draw any but they could be there, unseen.) A couple of other notes on the drawing design before I move on: I went with buns in the hair since I usually draw loose/down hair and wanted to mix it up a bit, and to "close off" the drawing I added the leaves at the base of her neck, which also kind of double as a shirt-collar in terms of appearance, which I thought was neat. The leaves and the bit of vine across the nose, as may be obvious, are supposed to represent the frame and bridge of glasses. I transferred the lines from the sketch to piece of Strathmore mixed media paper since I didn't think I'd be using enough water or watercolor techniques to warrant breaking out some 100% cotton paper, but I wanted something thick enough to handle paint, and I thought the smooth-ish texture would suit the gouache based on what experimenting I'd already done. The roses for the eyes had no lines, and admittedly I probably could've gotten away with even fewer lines than the ones I did transfer since the gouache is opaque. I actually had a fair number of hairlines drawn in that got totally covered up since that was way easier than trying to carefully work around them. Anyway. For all the gouache parts, I started with a darker base color, since it's usually recommended that you work from dark to light in gouache, and then I'd go back in with 2-3 lighter colors on top to add shading/depth. The main issues I ran into were when the gouache color wasn't totally opaque, such as the rose base color (which is actually called "Rose," believe it or not) which gives me mixed feelings because on the one hand, it can look kind of interesting in giving you less structured, more unpredictable shading based on how you layer it, but also...well, it's not as opaque, so you have work with it slightly differently compared to the more opaque colors. The other issue was that I really struggled to have enough paint on my brush, particularly when doing tiny details, to get the full opacity and smooth color that I wanted, without leaving a glop of paint where it didn't need to be. Especially in areas like the hair that had a lot of fine tapering lines. I'm not sure how much of the problem is me and how my is or isn't my brushes or what, but this is something I occasionally have issues within acrylic painting too, but it felt way more prevalent here. I did manage to fix some areas that got away from me by layering darker colors back on top of the lighter ones, but then you also have areas like one of the loose hair strands around her chin that got away from me and I had to make noticeably longer than it originally was in order to fix it. (You can probably guess which one it was without me having to point it out for you.) I also had an "issue" in that it was seemingly very easy to mix up way too much of custom color, but that's more of a me problem than a problem with the paint. (And admittedly the above aren't necessarily paint-specific problems either.) Speaking of which, I'm still not sure if my "Titanium White" and "White" got mixed up or not, but since I suspect they did, I used the one I felt like looks more like the mixing white to do so. (Although admittedly I probably could've tried some mixing tests with both to see if I noticed a difference there whatever, perhaps some other time.) And I specifically avoided using black, since I thought it would be too harsh in mixes. For the hair, I just used one of the pre-mixed browns for my darkest and then used lighter colors and made my own lighter mixes to go over it. For the leaves, I actually mixed some of the Prussian Blue into one of the greens to make it darker. I think I may have benefitted from going a little lighter on how much of the blue went in, though. The roses were actually one of the more fun parts since they didn't have to be so precise or specific to make the look work. I started with a base of the Rose/hot pink color, mixed a lighter pink to make sections that probably should've been a little less light in color and slightly larger in shape, and then a slightly lighter pink than should have been lighter to layer on top of the already lighter pink parts. Partly because of some the issues I mentioned earlier and partly because I was just kinda going for whatever with only a minimal plan, I did have to go back and forth with the lights and darks in some areas on these, and I still don't think they look quite alike enough, even though I never intended to make them perfectly symmetrical. I also decided to not totally abandon gouache's watercolor properties with the background, since at this point I was thinking I didn't want to leave it plain white, but I also didn't want to do anything too complicated or intense that might take away from the rest of the art and the concept behind it. So I watered down some of the pink I used for the roses' base color and just kinda went over the background to my heart's content until I was happy with what the textures were doing since I knew it was unrealistic to expect to be able to get the background totally smooth trying to work around the rest of the drawing. Now, originally I was planning on painting in the skin with the gouache, however, I made the grave mistake of not thinking about it until after I'd pretty much finished with all the other painted parts, and I really did not feel like trying to paint around everything. And, honestly, I really did like the contrast of the white skin against the other colors. I did acknowledge that I could have mixed a gray from the gouache and shaded the white skin with that, but it felt like too much of a risk and still like too much of a hassle, so I conceited that I could bring other mediums into this since I'd already done my gouache-exclusive test piece. I grabbed a couple of very, very light gray Copic markers and added some very careful, very subtle shading to the skin. And you guys haven't seen the first time I used this mixed-media paper just yet (it's coming down the pipeline, I promise!), but for the second time I'm kind of in love with how it handles alcohol markers and I really need to try a more marker-heavy illustration on it sometime. After all that though, it was still missing a couple of things. I ended up breaking out my white uni-ball Signo gel pen to line around the girl just so she really would pop off the background, opting for it instead of the white gouache because, again, that seemed like too much of a chore to try and do. And my white Sakura gelly roll tends to be a little more transparent compared to the Signo, and I really wanted the stronger, stark white look. Then after some thinking, I added the rose lines in the background using a pink and a green Sakura gelly rolls and the stencil I've toyed with using on other projects before. And overall it, it has its faults (especially if you look at it too closely), but I really like how the whole thing turned out. It has almost a surreal vibe to it that I think drives home the initial concept really nicely, and just, in general, it's very sweet colors but has a more eerie feel to it. (At least when I look at it, anyway.) It also very vaguely gives me Luna-Lovegood vibes, so of course, I like it for that alone. I'm not sure what I'm going to make with the gouache next, as so far it seems its planning requires a slightly different thought process than I'm used to, but I have some ideas and all this has succeeded in doing is making me want to use the gouache more. This definitely isn't the last we'll be seeing of it, that's for sure! ____ Artwork © me, MysticSparkleWings ____ Where to find me & my artwork: My Website | Commission Info + Prices | Ko-Fi | dA Print Shop | RedBubble | Twitter | Tumblr | Instagram

It’s that time of year again, August is wrapping up and we are all preparing to go back to class. Whether you are a freshman or a senior it is a nerve-wracking experience. So here’s my advice (advice from a rising senior! Let’s see what I have to say...)
SUPPLIES
Unless your school is the type to give a universal list of supplies chances are you won’t need 300 notebooks on day one. This is what I usually bring on the first day:
Notebook
Few pens/pencils
Planner/BUJO (cause when am I ever without a bujo?)
Backpack
Recommendations
For general supplies I use Muji. They have quality stuff at a decent price, plus they are beyond aesthetic. (Gotta have pleasing supplies….)
Planner/Bujo: This is where I don’t really have a preference. Last school year I used a soft cover dotted Moleskine, for this year I just order a hardcover Leuchtturm 1917 journal. However if you are the type that doesn’t want/have the time to make your own spreads I highly recommend using Passion Planner. They have multiple types (the academic one is the best in my opinion.) PP is good quality with premade spread (WHAT A STEAL)
Pens/Markers/Pencils: Let’s start with this: MUJI. They have wonderful supplies like I already said, good stuff good stuff. But hey, what about specific things? Mildliners, Stabilo Boss (Pastel) Highlighters, Staedtler Fine Point Pens, Gelly Roll Gel Pens, Artline Stix Markers, Tombow Brush Pens. But at the end of the day, everything works!
I used to change my backpack every year, but ever since I discovered the Fjallraven Kanken bag I stuck with it. It’s a pretty durable bag with a bunch of space. The only negative is that there are not really that many pockets, so everything pretty much goes into the big compartment.
MUSIC
My school has a pretty liberal policy when it comes to phones. As long as the teacher allows it we can use our phones in class, and even occasionally have headphones on so here are some study music recommendations.
LoFi:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hX3j0sQ7ot8
This is a good playlist/station. These guys are lifesavers, they broadcast LIVE 24/7. LITERALLY NONSTOP MUSIC. It’s nice and chill, very nice to study to.
I am currently self studying Korean so I’ve been listening to a lot of Korean music, and since I figured it’s a trend around here so I’m including it.
KWON JI YONG (G-Dragon): This EP is so dope, the first half gets you really pumped and then it gets more calm. The only thing is GD has weird pronunciation so don’t use this to learn or practice Korean. I learned the hard way!
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MOMENT IN LIFE (BTS): This isn’t my favorite album, but I love the OUTRO song, especially the middle part!!!
EXO/EXO-CBX: Honestly everything with these guys is great, but highly recommend the newest album by EXO, THE WAR. I also like using this album for Korean studies, because their pronunciation (unlike GD’s, sorry GD stans) is quite good and it’s good for practice.
At the end of the day, any music is good music so listen to what you like!! But make sure you’re not distracted from your work (like I am during Ko Ko Bop…)
MISC ADVICE
Do not put off work. It’s so much easier to handle school when you do you assignments the night they are assigned, and projects the first weekend you have them. Not only does this ensure little stress, if anything is wrong you will most likely have time to revise.
Start thinking about college early. This is something I didn’t do and highly regret. Visit colleges as early as second half of freshmen year. This way you are prepared when you have to apply, but this will also keep college at the front of your mind. I disagree with people who say that you shouldn’t worry about college until junior year. Keeping college in your mind will allow you to stay motivated and work hard. Set a goal school and work towards it. I WISH so much that someone told freshman me to worry about college because I started worrying a little too late.
SAT/ACT: Take the PSAT as early as you can. This will help you decide which test you are more suited for. Do a mock test of the ACT as well, time yourself and see which score is higher. I then recommend to take either of the tests your junior year. I took the ACT four times, most people take one of the exams about 2-3 times. Don’t forget that superscoring is a thing, some colleges will allow you to the highest mark of each section and combine them. Also don’t worry if you aren’t in the range colleges say their accepted students had. This is only the mid 50%, there are people who got lower scores and got in and people with higher scores who also got in.
Go see your teachers whenever you can. You will need recommendation letters for applications at some point so work on your relationships with your teachers. If you have a class you particularly like, get close to the teacher. Go talk to them after school. High school is slightly different in this sense, you can have a friendly relationship with your teacher. (I even go to talk about Game of Thrones with my 10th grade English teacher.)
Electives are also important! Of course everyone has to take the core classes, but showing interest in other areas is just as important. Colleges are looking for students who have interests and those who will make their communities diverse. So if you’re interested in art, take art classes and so on!
Most importantly, have fun! School is stressful, and there is just so much anxiety involved with it. Take time to take care of yourself. Go out with friends, go to parties (but don’t do anything that will get you in trouble). If you need to take a break, take the day off. Your mental and social health are just as important as your studies. We studyblrs seem to have no lives outside of studying and I hate that. HAVE FUN, remember that this is the only time you will be in high school so enjoy it. Go do crazy stupid things, because why not?! (Great advice…) Just remember to be safe :)
Good luck to everyone on the upcoming 2017/2018 school year. As for my fellow seniors, we are almost there guys, this is the final push, the sprint right before the end of the race. Congrats on making it this far. And my freshmen, welcome to high school!

Taehyung: NOT THE JANITOR’S CLOSET, BUT ALSO NOT THE EIFFEL TOWER- Request
Prompt: Taehyung drags you to the library bathroom because he forgot his wallet. But that's not important. Except maybe it is because you start to think that bathrooms are a little more romantic and exciting afterwords (WOW, that's cringy).
Word Count: 2.4k (I’M SORRY I KNOW THAT’S LONGER THAN NORMAL)
Third Person P.O.V.
Ding!
You look up from your pile of chemistry homework to look for your phone. Now of course, after having been working on homework for so long, your phone was no longer in sight. Shuffling some papers around, closing (and re-opening) your chemistry book, and digging in your backpack for it, you find your phone on the other side of the room, sitting on your bed. It dings again.
Discarding your lap-full of papers—being careful not to wrinkle any of them because your teacher will yell at you for it—you walk over and grab your cellular device to read the text you’d gotten. It was from Taehyung, your boyfriend.
You laugh at his cute typing as you see the three dots pop up again on his end before hearing another ding from your phone.
Of course your boyfriend wasn’t going to stop texting every few seconds because he knew you’d reply sooner or later as long as he continued to bother you. You had no choice but to reply—especially since you’d opened the messages (because you knew from past experience that leaving him on read was not a good idea at all).
Instead of replying, you roll your eyes jokingly at his antics, even though he can’t see you. Locking your phone and putting it in the back pocket of your faded denim jeans, you tug on a jacket and retie your shoes before walking out the door, car keys in hand and a small backpack of chemistry homework slung over your shoulder.
When you arrive at the library exactly six minutes and thirty-two seconds later and walk in, scanning the small building for your ball of spaz, but not finding him anywhere. You go to the back of the library where he normally sits, only to find a nice-looking girl your age gathering up her stuff to leave. You exchange friendly smiles as she passes you to exit the library. Looking back at the tables, you notice a small note next to one of Taehyung’s Gelly Roll pens. You then notice his small backpack leaned up against the leg of the table and a small Styrofoam cup of coffee. You gently set your bag down in the chair next to his. Looking at the note, you notice that it is in fact your boyfriend’s handwriting.
Decided to seek refuge in the men’s room, text me when you get here so I can be safe somewhere that doesn’t smell like toilet-cleaner.
~XO Hyungie-oppa
Something that you always loved about Taehyung was his interest in making up fake words or playing with real ones. Since Jungkook always called him ‘hyung’ (and the second syllable of his name was much the same), he decided it would just be easier for ‘Hyungie’ to be his nickname. But when you started dating him, he insisted that you add the formal-friendly suffix to have an ironic double-meaning that made him smile.
You texted your significant other that the coast was clear and that you had arrived. Not thirty seconds later, the door to the boys’ room opened and the tall man-child came barreling out with a relieved sigh and jokingly wiping the imaginary sweat from his beautiful bronze forehead.
“Thank the fucking lord you’re here!” he says, trying his best (and failing) at whispering his excitement to be respectful. “That creepy chick was about to jump on me, I swear it on my life,” he elaborates, placing his hand on the smooth expanse of your forearm and leaning down to give you a quick kiss on the cheek and following up with a goofy smile. That same beautiful, boxy smile he’s been giving you for the two and three-quarter years you’ve been together that you wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. Your little state of being awestruck is short-lived however, when the stern voice of the forty-seven-year-old-going-to-die-alone-except-for-her-seventy-something-cats librarian brings you back to here and now, where you and your boyfriend are being a little louder than necessary. Even though you are pretty much the only two people in the library, she still feels the need to shush you with a scraggly, pink, wrinkly finger and a sharp glare that could almost pass for a death threat if you didn’t know that she was the weakest human being in the building. After rolling his eyes at the middle-aged woman, you feel the warmth of his hand move from the side of your arm to grab the small foam cup that was sitting on the table.
“Here’s your coffee,” he offers as the corners of his mouth turn up in a small, loving gesture.
“Tae, are you sure you’re not overreacting? The only girl I saw was pretty and looked harmless to me,” you stated, shrugging your shoulders and taking a sip of your coffee. Mid-gulp however, Taehyung grabbed you by the wrist (of course it had to be the one holding the scalding-hot beverage) and gave you a look of fear, and to tell truth, you weren’t sure if it was sincere or not.
“I am most definitely not overreacting, y/n. She waved at me and tried to act like she was all sweet and nice, but I knew what she was really doing, I could see it in her eyes,” he told you with an expression that held curiosity and fear all at once. Then he whispered with the same hushed, fearful tone, almost to himself “she was going to abduct me and take me away,”
You laughed and looped your arm around his neck, getting on your tippy-toes to give him a small peck on the lips. “That’s the same thing, dork. Stop being redundant,” you say, pulling his sleeve and getting him to sit down at the small, dull-colored table. He takes out his phone and his notes so he can study the way he has for as long as you could remember… well, not exactly studying, more of playing on his phone for an hour while he gets an average of five questions done on his homework. You pull out your chemistry book and set to work on a few of the assigned book questions as Taehyung insists on showing you some vine that he can’t stop laughing about. Forgetting your homework for the time being, you sit there for more than ten minutes, watching vines and funny videos with him. One video that you decide to show him is a man who’s pretending to be a crazy mom that is attempting to clean the house because they have people coming over. Taehyung almost tells you he doesn’t want to watch it because there’s no way this could be funny, but you demand that he watch it because you’ve seen it before and you know he’ll like it. He does, just like you said he would, and he laughs so hard you had to pause the video for him a couple of times, but it’s all worth it. Even when the librarian gives you dirty looks multiple times from across the room, at one point slamming her book on the front counter and nearly jumps out of her seat at you (even though there’s about fifty feet of bookshelves between the both of you and her).
You decide after seeing her scary, threatening eyes that maybe you two should stop being so disrespectful to the poor old lady. Taehyung remembers that he left his wallet in the men’s room for some reason and suggests that you take refuge in there and maybe she won’t hear the both of you laughing so much. You allow him to drag you by the wrist into the small linoleum-floored restroom, giggling from the irrelevant excitement he seems to have at the thought of being alone in such an odd place.
As soon as he turns to close the door behind the both of you, you are still making your way past the doorway, putting your bodies—and faces—a little closer than anticipated. You gasp in surprise at the closeness, but don’t move away, and neither does he. The tension rises just slightly enough for you to notice its incline as your eyes shift from his own to the pink softness of his lips and his do the same. The longer you stare, which seems like years (but is really fractions of a second), the closer the two of you get, some kind of magical force pulling the both of you together; the same force that pulled you to him the moment the two of you met, demanding for you to speak to him. The force in which you told yourself the next day that you would always concede to when it came to Taehyung.
Finally giving in to the strength of this inner voice, you push yourself on your tippy-toes for what feels like the millionth time today and initiate the inevitable kiss (which you assumed would lead to a little more than something short and sweet). You lock onto his lips with purpose and fervor, closing your eyes in bliss and grabbing his forearm to keep him anchored to you. But it was only a matter of seconds before the both of you needed air. You lean your forehead on his chin and his fingers graze along your forearm, his other hand reaching up to cup your cheek affectionately. You look up at him and see a tint of red on his cheeks and the hint of a bashful smile (and now chap-stick tint as well) on his lips.
“You look so cute when you’re flustered, Taehyungie,” you compliment him sweetly, a hint of teasing in your lilting tone, before closing the distance once more and delivering a small array of kisses to his jawline. He lets out a sigh in response and turns his head to meet your lips in another pleasant kiss. Not being able to hold yourself back however, you place your tongue at the entrance of his lips, silently asking for passage. When he feels the soft appendage on his mouth, he lets out a quiet gasp in surprise; neither of you had really initiated kisses like this except for maybe a few other times over the course of the two years you were together. His soft intake of breath though, is followed by the slow opening of his lips and his tongue meeting yours. Your tongues wander the smooth caverns of each other’s mouths for a moment, basking in the air of soft, comforting bliss.
The mood shifts almost dramatically when Taehyung’s hands move in opposite directions from your forearms to the small of your back and the spot behind your ear that meets your hairline. Your body and heart respond a bit more effectively than your brain, making you move even closer and pushing your bodies together ever so perfectly, making your heart race—just as quickly as his, you notice. One of your own hands moves to rest on his chest while the other tangles into the soft locks at the nape of his neck, making him groan in response.
The kiss deepens, both of your tongues finding themselves in a languid battle for dominance. Taehyung eventually wins over, leaving you to whine in defeat. But your pout is short-lived when you decide to detach your lips from his and kiss down his jaw and neck, leaving him surprised and a little shakier than you’d expect. You couldn’t believe that after two and a half years, you still didn’t know that neck kisses were his weakness. You could see him trying to hold back whimpers and baby moans just so he could maintain his macho-man image. You pulled your lips from his neck, pausing your sweet torture to pout at him with puppy eyes.
“Taehyungie, why are you being so quiet? You don’t have to hold back your noises for me, babe. Let me know when I’m making you feel good, okay?” you coax him cutely, trying to incorporate a little aegyo to tip him over the edge of compliance. In return, he leans down to give you a short, sweet kiss before whispering in your ear.
“Okay baby, I’ll be vocal for you and only you.” He pauses for a moment, staring at you with a look that could only be described as pure love and adoration, seemingly lost in the beauty of your entire being. “Have I ever told you how amazing you are?” he asks you this with a soft, amorous tone and a proud smile on his lips and a surprising, yet affectionate squeeze to your butt. You giggle to yourself and blush, lightly swatting his chest at a half-hearted attempt to get him to stop flattering you (but you both know you love it when he does that).
Instead of letting you continue to attack his neck with torturously sweet kisses, he picks you up and pushes you against the bathroom door, bracing you between him and the hopefully sturdy piece of wood. He proceeds to kiss you with the same purpose and intention as you had just minutes before, holding you up with strong hands on the backs of your thighs, your arms slung around his broad shoulders and ankles crossed around his back to make sure you don’t fall. But you don’t have to worry.
Because no matter what, no matter how close you may get to falling from his embrace, he knows you will never let go.
And neither will he.
