ADHD money/budgeting system I'm currently using for my benefit is going well (I've been using it for like half a year now?), and I wanna recommend it.

You Need a Budget is EXCELLENT. 10/10 do recommend. Uhhh rambling about it and my generic disclaimers + gushing extensively under the cut but TL;DR I think it's great for ADHD ppl, I've used it for 6+ months now and I find it super SUPER helpful. also weirdly fun.

They only have 4 rules of the budget, they're simple and practical, and it doesn't get judgey or like...mean about your spending.

THEN THEY BREAK THESE DOWN INTO SMALL STEPS FOR YOU! They even have a printable! Also these rules are great because there's built in expectations that things WILL HAPPEN and it's NOT all or nothing with a fear of total collapse into failure. Reality and The Plan don't always align, especially if you have ADHD. So it's directing our energy towards the true expenses and not clinging to The Plan!! over reality.

You can automate a lot of shit (you can sync with your bank accounts just like mint, but also automate tagging the categories of regular expenses/transactions). And if for whatever reason you accidentally do something that makes the budget look weird or wrong:

A) you can usually fix it somehow OR b) they have like, a button you can press that gives you a clean slate and archives the previous version of the budget for you.

So if you forget for a few weeks or months, or accidentally input something wildly wrong, or just don't want to look at a really terrible month anymore and feel like you need a fresh start you can usually either fix it or start fresh which is really nice.

The app also (for whatever reason) scratches my itch to have things like...have incentives or little game-like goals in a way mint never did? I don't know why. Filling up the bars or putting money into the categories to cover my expenses is satisfying lmao. You can also make a big wish expense category for all the fun shit you want, and fund it whenever you can and then you can see the little bar go up and that's fun.

Anyways I've been using it for like 6+ months now and I think it's really helped me when I use it.

I had to start off pride month with aphobia, which really shot my mood. I've already got an entire history full of going to mental health professionals for help with debilitating depression, only for them to find out I'm not interested in a relationship and hooking up and immediately swerving course to tell me how i should be, and it's weird I'm not, and i should do it anyway even if i don't want to- if the topic of relationships is ever brought up i genuinely get this feeling of impending doom. A therapists brings it up and i immediately mentally categorize that therapist as a failed attempt, because it's inevitable they'll be weird about it, they'll hurt me and I can't trust them.

This specific time i was talking to a social worker who was getting my info for accomodations - Conversation went great, talking about my past history i offhandedly mention how the last therapist in particular just spent 6 months trying to hook me up with my (also aroace) best friend, even though i have no desire for any of this - of course, i get told that romance and sex are normal and what EVERY human on earth desires and needs and that therapist had a point. I realize my mistake. Just sit there and silently get lectured how I'm weird and wrong and need to be fixed.

Now, my mom was also there for that, and while she's really not well versed in anything queer, she knows about me being aroace and was supportive from the get go. Just like she did when she talked to that therapist, she tried to diffuse and lead the conversation away by arguing how that isn't relevant and i have much more pressing problems. And just. I appreciate it, i do, not everyone has a parent like that. But I'm thinking about and i just. Wish I'd had someone who would put their hand on the table and shut that down, hard, that I'm fine like this and don't need fixing and others need to stop being shitty to me and ignoring my feelings and wants.

I'm just so tired and resistance has been soundly beaten out of me. I screamed, i cried, i wrote 3 page essays explaining everything i think and feel, and it just feels like i didn't do any of it. At this point I've stopped trying, the topic shifts to relationships and sex and i just heave an inward sigh and prepare to sit through a 20 minute lecture of how wrong i am.

The only real queer spaces i have access to are online, and i just don't find spaces where it's taken all that seriously. At best it's just kind of downplayed, at worst people just deny that it's any kind of problem at all and i should just stop whining. As if a life of people telling me my sexuality is broken and trying to "fix" it just becomes harmless when you're aspec instead of gay.

Going through those mental health problems at all is bad enough, but i also gotta deal with this, and then not having anywhere where i can actually talk about it and get taken seriously. Or have people who get angry on my behalf. Idk where I'm going with this, I'm just so mad that this is how things are.

idk if this was asked before but since you have ran a fandom week before, how should one approach it?

Heya! Sorry for the late response. Definitely an ask I wanted to get round to. So from my experience running these things here's what I'd say:

For planning the week itself

When devising prompts I start off making a list of words I associate with the ship/fandom whatnot. You want the prompts to be fairly open. They're meant to be springboards to get ideas flowing. If they're a bit too rigid it'll feel restrictive and put people off. Inspiring creativity is what you want. Like I say, the SkyStar Week prompt devising normally starts with making a list of words I associate with the vibes of the pairing.

When devising prompts there's no real reason to have a 'free space'. I had those the first year but that ends up being more a dead space where people aren't sure what to put. Just give em an extra prompt and let them follow it or not if they don't want to.

Stating what the rules are for nsfw is good. If it's a SFW only event that's fine. It's just good to let people know beforehand. I think if you are gonna have NSFW just state clearly what the rules are, whether it's just making sure everything is tagged correctly or if that will be hosted somewhere else.

For organising and social media stuff

Defo make a separate tumblr or social media account for the event, and post all news about that there. I know that sounds obvious, but I did remember an event that had been cancelled but that wasn't announced on the event page itself, but on the main mods personal blog. I think maybe they just forgot or posted to the wrong account, but still: make sure all important info is on the main event page.

Even if your personal gets an ask about the event (which has happened a few times) make sure it gets reblogged to the event blog.

Try to post about the event early. Give people plenty of time to access the prompts. If you post up the prompts really late they're not gonna have time to work on them, and you just won't get as much engagement as you could have gotten. And post reminders leading up to the event as well. We all live busy lives, it can be easy to forget about an event if there was one post and then you never heard from that event again until the week it happens. For SkyStar Week we tend to try and post periodic reminders about the event so it stays fresh in people's heads.

Since it's all meant to be for fun I'd say just have a chill time. There's no reason to be super restrictive on what people can and can't do. I've seen people nervous about participating cos "What if they don't allow humanformers or au's" while I'm like "I don't care, I love anything so long as it's SkyStar". I don't know if there are any event weeks that are like "No au's or other stuff allowed" but I can't see a reason to restrict that. It just limits creativity and fun. And once again, none of this is serious and it should all be for having fun. Same for things like if people don't follow the prompt list. I don't care if you don't. They're meant to get ideas flowing but if you had an original idea for a piece and post it up during the week then why say that's not allowed? So long as people are participating that's all fine enough isn't it?

why are you making me guess whether or not your muse is an OC and guess what fandom they're a part of

idk maybe it's just my autism but there's a reason why I refuse to use a theme or anything on my blog, because I want people to have easy access to relevant info

most people don't even read any of it anyway, so making it easier for those that do just seems rational to me

Hey can i have a honest opinion on something?

A few moth ago i started the translation of a lore doc into french, this decision was mostly motivated by a want to do something for a fandom since i never finish my drawings/stories etc , but also to work my english (and make it usefull, i wanted to do something usefull). However now i kind of doubt the utility of it all... first cause ...it's not very intersting to read lmao but i've accepted that it would be more of an archive than anything really...meaningful?idk but also : the lore doc is basically a copy pasta of what's on the tweeter of the Creators (but translated obv), but that means that every link wont be accessible to all -> language barriers + twitter (i don't have it so it's already a problem for me when i can't acces the threads) but it also means that the lore is very limited and we miss every little interrations or quircks of the characters ...yknow, what's really interesting about lore. I think that the day to day actions of the characters are not as interesting as what makes them special....

Today i wanted i bit more of infos about a deal a character made , cause what i had was litteraly "This character made a deal with This character" WHAT KIND OF DEAL?? when i searched on the wiki fandom the entire day was written in great details and the deal was kind of way more horrifing than how it was presented on the doc (dude offered him "good things" o whatever in exchange OF THE LIFE OF HIS SON) and something just clicked in me... IS it really still worth it to work on this translation? If anyone want to learn the lore it wont be very interesting since it's not that developped and it's hard to find what you want unless you know who and when it was. I don't want to let down the OP (but at the same time they didn't really asked, i proposed to make it more accessible WICH IT ISN'T ANYWAY SO FUCK ME). And at the same time the wiki is well more spread, and detailed. What the document has in fast updates the wiki has it in details ... The only "bad"thing that i note on the wiki was that when i made that search for the deal, the page for the specific character was EMPTY on the french side, and a lot of pages aren't translated or even present in both version (AND I HATE THE ADDS IT MAKES IT UNREADABLE i hate it i hate it i hate it)... I really want to help but idk what to do, cause i would hate to let this unfinished

do you much about UI/UX design?

i feel like i know as much about it as someone that interacts with technology as much as i do would just naturally know, if that makes sense?

i haven’t done any formal training with it because in the ways that i work in UI/UX design, it feels like common sense decisions. i’ve designed websites and a couple of apps and kind of just built them in the way that feels natural to me as someone that works almost exclusively through websites and apps and softwares in my daily life and career.

like, if i’m designing wireframes for an app or website, i’m thinking 1. what’s the easiest and clearest way for someone to get the information onto the screen, 2. what’s the most accessible way for someone that’s unfamiliar with this technology to navigate through these different pages (what’s the fewest amount of clicks that will get them to this specific info they’re looking for) and after that 3. what design language is going to both look great and back up my first two priorities—accessibility and clear, concise communication.

ex: most websites’ header menu bars transition to hamburger menus when you access them from mobile. so if i’m designing for mobile, i’m putting that hamburger menu in the top left corner of the mobile site and making it scroll with you, because most sites do the same thing and that’s the best way to make sure the information someone needs is always easily accessible—literally one tap away. it’s like muscle memory for a person to look for a hamburger menu on a mobile site, so that’s what going to be easiest for them to access and understand. i’m not going to put in some random icon at the very bottom of the page to open the menu, even if it looks better. like, if it’s difficult to find stuff on your website, that’s bad UI design

so idk i feel like that’s what UI/UX is at the end of the day in my personal experience in my job. we all know about it to an extent because we interact with technology in some form in our daily lives. people that are actual UI/UX designers are obviously going to have a much broader knowledge of it, and i’m sure there’s a lot of studying about behavior patterns and how to drive sales and clicks through certain designs, which is scary to think about fhfhfhf

Hey! I saw that hardback copy of DCWT you made a couple of years back! I was just wondering, how completely difficult/ expensive was it to do? I've thought about doing something like that many times (Or maybe commissioning someone to do it), but I wasn't sure if it was even in the realm of the possible. Your copy looks amazing, i love the dust jacket and all the extra details. Frankly the typesetting alone seems like a huge challenge?! Sorry this ask is slightly out of the blue, it's just been on my mind lately.

First of all, thank you! It's really fortunate that copy came out as well as it did, since it was (unadvisedly) the first book I ever bound.

As to difficulty, that's a little hard to answer. The book-binding techniques are pretty simple to learn (check out Sea Lemon on youtube). Type-setting is something that I have been professionally educated in, but you could probably learn some really decent pointers online and on youtube and from just looking at professionally printed books in order to do pretty well yourself.

I was able to take advantage of professional school equipment to do things that I wouldn't be able to do just at home (like trimming the edges of the final book to be uniform) so that could be a stumbling block if you don't have access to that. Similarly, I was able to use InDesign, which is a super helpful program for this sort of project, but Adobe is expensive as shit and idk what other programs are out there that do the same things InDesign does.

Lastly in terms of cost, I was able to take advantage of a printing glitch on-campus to print my pages for free, but if you have to pay to print I would estimate that the cost of materials is pretty similar to what it would cost to get it made via a service online? However it did take a significant amount of time to make start-to-finish, which means counting productive time its overall way less cost+time efficient. However I just really enjoy the process of book-binding, so the time it took to make just felt like indulging in a hobby tbh.

So yeah, it's totally in the realm of the possible, it just depends on what kind of materials/equipment you have access to for a few specific stages, and if you have alternate work-arounds for those. Worth doing if you like, or want to learn book-binding, but not worth it if you just want to have a final product.

((so i was gonna open up my askbox again but I got distracted doing this and watching streams i think idr what i did the past few hours, buuut there's something I need to cover first, especially since there are so many new people around! Hello! Especially since so many of you are playing OCs/MCs.

Don't worry, it's a tip to hopefully help you along! It may get a little long, especially as I try and provide examples. . .but hopefully it'll help.

I'm gonna talk a lot about OCs but this applies to canon characters too a bit. It certainly helps.

Tl;dr, you should have a character profile page.

(also remember that tumblr mobile doesn't really have direct access to Pages made with the Pages function on desktop, so you'll have to link them manually in your pinned or description or host them on another site(I used Google Docs in the apst) or in a regular post(this makes it very easy to lose as a forewarning) for maximum accessibility!)

(rules pages are also really really handy if you have alot of resteictions.)

So, in general, OCs have a bit of a lower reception rate in rp. Idk if that'll be the case here with MCs because they're, well, the main character. Housamo is also a series that lends itself well to OCs pretty well, especially non-human ones, but I figured I'd warn for that.

BUT. That doesn't mean you shouldn't play an OC! It just means there are things you need to keep in mind!

Think of all of the OCs you've seen--you all seem to be fun and wonderful people, and your characters are surely interesting. But. . .if you don't tell anybody about them, nobody will know what's going on or where to start, which makes asking questions a little hard, right? That's easier to work around with MC characters--we've played the game, we know the story, we know the characters, so we can figure out questions fairly easily based on that alone and go from there.

But with other OCs, especially those that don't represent charactera from mythology or fiction like many other characters in housamo do, there's like. Nowhere to start. We may see a face or some dialogue, but otherwise we don't have a frame of reference.

That's where a profile comes in!

What if I don't know everything about my OC yet and want to figure it out along thw way?

The profile doesn't have to be super detailed! At most it shoule include things like the character's name and age and probably things like their location, profession, grade in school or place of work, etc., and anything you'd notice on the surface like their apperance. It's never a bad thing to include a description of their personality too, or a small section about their history/background. Little things that even you should probably know, too.

You can also section your profile off a bit into things like "surface info," "meta info," "things you could easily figure out about them," etc. That way, no one can spoil themself. Making lists like this can help you think these things through if you haven't already as well.

Let's use Azazel, a character that you probably know already, as an example here. I don't have a profile set

Name: Azazel

Species: Fallen Angel; Capra Therian - an anthropomorphic Goat (?)

Gender(pronouns): Male(he/him)

Age: difficult to calculate; several thousand years old?

Apperance age: hard to say, he's not human. Adult.

Origins: banished from his home world of Eden, has been in the human world for several thousand years

Profession: Priest of dubious denomination, most likely Catholic or Protestant; teacher at Daikanyama Academy; de facto head of the Missionaries Non-Profit charity Organization; supervisor of the Aoyama Missionaries

Role & Rule: Watcher; Revelation - allows him to see anything within the territory of the Aoyama Missionaries and anywhere the pages of his Artifact see

Apperance: Azazel is a 5'10"(180cm) tall, anthropomorphic goat of ambiguous breed, with fawn fur all over his body and lighter fur on his head and around his neck. He has brown, riged horns which curve out and back. Though his eyes are often closed, when opened they're red. He always carried around a leather bound bible with an eye on the cover, and is never seen without several chains on his person, although only the one(s) around his neck can be seen unless he's undressed.

He wears a black priest's cassock with a maroon sash and a capelet of the same color, with the same eye as on his bible on the shoulders of the cape, and brown dress shoes. The front of the robe is always open to expose his bare chest and the chains beneath.

Personality: Azazel is kind and doting, very fitting of both a teacher and priest, although his openly flirtatious, lustful, and secretive nature causes others to distrust him. He doesn't mind this at all. He has a strong adoration for humans, and values love in all of its forms more than anything. He's a bit of a passive person, often being unmotivated but working hard regardless, and seems to prefer to watch others and the world go by, although he won't decline most invitations to take part in it. He is always aware of anything that happens within the extensive territory of the Missionaries, and seems to know and see just about everything about anyone he meets, from their surface to their soul. . . .

If you know Azazel, or take note of some of the wording or question marks, you'll note I didn't explain everything(although I may have shared more than you want to.) This is just a bare bones exampe of how I do my profiles--but it can get even more bare!

I'll do two this time, a more vague version of Azazel's, and another that obscures information all together, using the same or a similar format to the above.

Compare it to the one before--see how I've left even more things off or left things ambiguous while still sharing what's necessary or surface level? However, it's also not as engaging or as informative as the other one where I gave more information.

As someone who plays him, profiles like this aren't as helpful for me lol since he knows so much about everyone and everything, having a lot of details helps me play my character!

Now, as helpful as this is, this is also a character you probably know. So how about I do this with an OC? Normally I'm extremely detailed in my profiles and such, especially for OCs, sharing headcanons and ideas for relationships between characters. But, again, I'll try and show how you can show some info while leaving some up to people to ask about to later be filled in.

Personality: seemingly anxious, but curious and exploratative nonetheless. On the awkward side, but can still keep up with the Nyarls that accompany her. Gets into trouble when she gets ahead of herself in exploring and learning about the arcane, but her Rule allows her to disappear easily.

History: Has always been curious about magic and attempted to run through a Gate when they began to open up. Performed a summon and brought a certain transients to Tokyo and recieved her familiar and the magic to use her Rule as a result. Currently teaches at a college. She stumbled into a certain someone while attempting to explore time, and became a fan ever since.

That tells you a fair amount, doesn't it? Even for someone you don't know? It may even raise some questions that you could ask. At the same time, it doesn't tell you that much, and that can be as much of a hindrance for coming up with questions as saying too much can. It's really up to you what's too much and too little. Here's a more detailed version! Some things have been left vague or confusing in such a way that they could be filled in after being revealed through asks and play. That way, people are encouraged to/given ideas of what to ask--and you can still share things in the long run.

She's a good teacher, once she figures out how to explain things in ways others can understand easily, but can be a bit difficult to follow and flighty up until then. Aware of this, she's rather patient, if a little down on herself at times. However, she most often simply has her mind elsewhere. Despite this and the company she keeps, she's relatively sane. . .most of the time.

She shares a name with a witch from the world of Old Ones who made a pact with Nyarlathotep, believing him to be the Devil. . .and the ratman always at her side uses the same name as that witch's familiar as well. It's. . .probably just a coincidence. . .who would rightfully make a pact with Nyarlathotep?

History: Kezia is an adult human from this Tokyo before the apperance of the Gates and construction of the Walls. She's explored various witchcraft pursuits since she was a child, with what was originally a mere imaginative curiosity and fascination. After the arrival of the Gates when she was still young, she snuck over the fences built around one and attempted to go inside the massive pillar of light, which she attributes to the reason she often seems to struggle with her vision. Several years later, she performed a successful summon and she recieved her familiar, Brown Jenkin, transformed into a somewhat therian form from one of her pet rats, and was given some powers from Nyarlathotep. At present she's a professor of a subject that interests her at a certain college. She's had other dangerous run-ins due to her excitement over the arcane and "darker" arts, but doesn't seem to show any signs of stopping. However, after an incident in an attempt to explore time itself, she encountered a certain guardian of time and feels reluctant for once to explore it further. . .although she's become quite a big fan of his.

You don't need to use any of those things exactly by any means, but that's the kind of thing you usually see in profile pages. Interests, hobbies, ways they could be intereacted with, etc. Just stuff that'd help you know the character.

I write everything in paragraph form, but everyone is more than welcome to use a more script format. I love making profiles, myself--it really helps to think about the character and details about them. Normally I make really, really detailed profiles, but maybe I'll try and be more simple about it this time around. depends on how i'm feeling.

Because of the major talk about them yesterday and how an anon tried to throw me under the bus, I want to make an informative post about the specific tracker I use and certain others do too (assuming they still use these). This will also go under a keep reading so you don’t have to scroll in case you read it and then don’t wanna scroll past it a second time.

I personally use a site called statcounter. What is stat counter? Well, let me explain with an excerpt from Wikipedia!

“StatCounter is a web traffic analysis website started in 1999. Access to basic services is free and advanced services can cost between US$5 and US$119 a month. StatCounter is based in Dublin, Ireland. The statistics from StatCounter are used to compute web usage share for example. As of May 2019, StatCounter is used on 0.9% of all websites. StatCounter statistics are directly derived from hits—as opposed to unique visitors—from 3 million sites, which use StatCounter, resulting in total hits of more than 15 billion per month. No artificial weightings are used to correct for sampling bias, thus the numbers in the statistics can not be considered to be representative samples.”

Statcounter I find has some cool features too if you do run a business site, which I aim to do in the future, here’s some of the cool analytics stuff they have if you’re a business marketer:

Now, let’s go there and break it down. I will be censoring sensitive information like people’s locations and IP addresses to protect them.

I want to also address the “xxx is now using 100% of its log space” too.

It may be hard to read, but it says the following

Yellow is my city. Green is the state (will be providence if you are in another country). Then you see “United States” as the country it says I’m from. Your country’s flag also appears before your location.

So not only can you find someone’s location, internet provider, and IP (which I think is enough for someone who hack or screw you over somehow, idk. I’d want to look that info up) but you can also stalk when they’re on your blog. This is a big YIKES.

Now back to the breakdown of the image from earlier...

You can learn what device they used, their browser, get a timestamp, and also how long they were on your page. I personally don’t care sharing this info, many of us use the most updated browser of our choice and most of us are on windows 10 for computer users.

So... yeah. While I use statcounter myself to block haters and redirect their IPs so they can’t get on my page anymore, I feel this site does give out too much information. On top of that, the one we all know who uses this software also has some software that checks who unfollows her. She uses these to get dirt on people and to expose them, it is not for her safety.

Now some tips on how to be safe if you don’t want to be tracked thanks to me testing things out:

Use the tumblr app.

The tumblr app uses coding for mobile usage. It does not rely on urls, but another form of code. StatCounter cannot log this code, so you will not appear on the visitor activity tab.

View blogs in side view

This is side view for those that don’t know. Side view acts a lot like the app in terms of the coding. So viewing like this is safe for you to not appear on trackers.

StatCounter relies on you typing in and clicking on urls on someone’s tumblr page (if installed on a tumblr).

As long as you are on a way that doesn’t rely on url systems, you are safe from appearing in someone’s tracker.

And a final note, if you are going to use one like I do, for blocking haters’ IPs, then I highly recommend putting a disclaimer in your description. I immediately did that when I installed mine so people knew they’d get rerouted if they started crap with me. I personally feel that keeping it secret that you have a tracker is violating someone’s consent as you are gathering info without their permission. By saying you have one, them being able to use ways where they won’t be tracked is very useful and helps them feel at ease knowing they can decide if they’re fine popping up on your tracker or not. Here is an example disclaimer you can put if you do put one in. Feel free to copy and paste too!
