Shadow of the Erdtree has been out for a month now, and the discussion around it's main character has been quite heated to say the least. Here is an attempt to sort things out after a few more playthrough and a cool headed approach.
About Miquella's power : At least two of the NPC's in the DLC talk about the effect of Miquella's charm (I think it's Leda and Ansbach). It seems the extent of it's power is to make people coexist peacefully, who would have fought each other otherwise. It is important to note that everyone present seems to have their own reasons to follow Miquella, even after the charm has faded. They are not there against their will.
About Miquella's curse : Miquella's curse is eternal childhood. There has been complicated arguments about what this means exactly. Is he an adult stuck in a child's body? How smart or mature is he? What kind of politician was he? IMO all of these are missing the point by trying to give him an agenda he did not have. For all we know, Miquella was entirely and completely a child. With a child's worldview, and a child's motivation. Also like a child, he was unable to accomplish most of his lofty goals, since they all came apart as soon as they were confronted with the reality of the adult world.
About Mogh and Miquella : Miquella's power allowed him to make Tarnished be peaceful with each other. It probably wouldn't be has powerful on a demi-god wielding their own great rune. So Mogh definitely wasn't fully committed to the idea of being killed and seeing his corpse reused, and Miquella definitely did not approach him with a convoluted plan like a manipulative mastermind (since he is like 10 years old max). Also Mogh wants to kick-start a blood dynasty. One way or another he learn that Miquella's blood is so potent he can grow an Erdtree all by himself. Mogh comes to the conclusion that Miquella would make a greater sacrifice to the Formless Mother than any amount of Tarnished ever could. So he kidnap him. Miquella probably used all the extent of his power to be saved from Mogh. In a "why would you kill me i just want to be friend with everyone" kinda way. This somewhat works, But Mogh is to far gone to give up on his murder cult. So he does the whole consort thing to Miquella, wanting him to be his consort, sharing his bed, living in his blood (wtf?). Please remember again, that Miquella is litterally a child. Maybe he is smart for his age but Mogh is still a child groomer in this situation. After is encounter with Mogh and going to the Shadow Realm Miquella displays a lot of self hate and suicidal thoughts, more than ever before.
About Radahn and Miquella : I still struggle with this part but one thing is certain. Miquella's power pre-godhood where strong but not mind control. Shattering is great rune also broke the charm, and their is quite a lot how distance between where Miquella broke his rune and the divine gate. That can only mean that Radahn became Miquella's consort willingly on some level. Not only that, but he probably was Miquella's escort through a big part of his journey through the Shadow Realm. How else could Miquella go through Belurat and Enir-Ilim without any Hornsent attempting to stop him ?
About the battle of Aeonia : If Radahn was willing to become Miquella's consort, why did the battle of Aeonia happen ? This part is pretty confusing. However, we have some insight on the Shattering in the intro. The narrator say the demigods grew mad from the taint of their great rune or something like that. We know Radahn was beloved by his men, and showed care for his animals, but he always was a aspiring warlord. It is quite possible that the state we find him in, bloodthirsty and beastlike, is actually due to the corruption of his great rune, before the scarlet rot. In the art of his fight with Malenia, he is already grown to monstrous size and has a face that look corrupted.
Tumblr media
Not the face of a healthy man.
In such circumstances, maybe Malenia was sent to bring him back to his senses, or maybe she was sent to make him "die a true death" so his spirit could be freed and brought back in a new body.

What's your headcanon for Katniss and Peeta's children?
How old was Katniss when give birth to their daughter?
How many years apart between them in age?
Your headcanon for their name?
Who gets the singing and art skill from their parent?
Bonus question : please give recs of your fav everlark post-Mockingjay fanfic.
Thank you :)
@curiousthg
OH BOI BABAY. This has been sitting in my inbox for a while & I’m finally getting to it.
I have a LOT to say about the toast babies. Katniss and Peeta have them when they are 24 or 26 (not 25- don’t ask me why, I don’t know). Their names are Willow and Rowan (or Rye, which I Think Suzanne said somewhere that was the official name for their son. I like both).
Willow is born first. Willow as in a willow tree, (Also from the story of the Willow that Katniss’s dad tells her-unless I’m totally just making that up) which often are seen as a symbol of new life, regrowth, overcoming hardships, and sometimes for peace. I think all of these qualities exhibit important aspects of Katniss and Peeta’s story.
She has long blond curls, her father’s freckles, her mother’s eyes and smile, and she constantly reminds Katniss of Prim. She’ll make facial expressions, or say or do things that remind Katniss so much of Prim, and it will make her miss her sister, but also make her happy that her sister is clearly living on through her daughter. She inherits Peeta’s drawing/artistic abilities, but she’s also really good at gardening and knowing plants/herbs and stuff (she’s definitely a future doctor). She’s just as stubborn and hard headed as her parents, and when she puts her mind to something she GETS THAT SHIT DONE! She’s also a massive sweetheart and VERY charming, just like her daddy. She’s also a decent singer, but she doesn’t like to do it often.
Rowan is born 1.5-2.5 years after Willow. I like this name for a LOT of reasons, and that’s why I chose it as their first son’s name in my Everlark fic. Rowan trees are in the Rosaceae family (aka, the ROSE family- kind of a tribute to Prim), and are in a lot of Celtic/norse/British isles religions. It often stands for protection (usually against supernatural forces in many religions), and were often planted around burial sites to protect the dead. They are also very hardy trees that can grow just about anywhere. Also, Rowan trees have berries…(thinking of their first games, & the berries…) listen I could go ON and ON and ON about the many mythological stories connected to Rowan trees but I will leave it at that. (There’s even some thoughts about them predicting the amount of snow there will be in the winter, or how bountiful the rye harvests will be)
Rowan has dark hair and olive skin like his mother, and his father’s blue eyes and smile and freckles. He loves to bake with his father, but he also has his mother’s ability with the bow and he’s good at hunting. He has a very witty/sarcastic sense of humor (he spends a lot of time with Haymitch), but a very kind heart. He can sing just as good as his mother, and he reminds Katniss a lot of her father. He also reminds Peeta of his brothers, in the way he smiles and his competitive nature.
POST MOCKINGJAY FIC RECS:
Swan Upon Leda [my fic on AO3, 74k words & ongoing, explicit] — the fic where Everlark aren’t together yet, Katniss is pregnant during the Quarter Quell, Peeta isn’t supposed to know but then figures it out, Peeta never gets taken by the Capital and hijacked, and they try to live their “happily ever after”
The Unrecorded Hours [by hollycomb on fanfic.net, 24k words, explicit] — Peeta is certain Katniss doesn't actually want him. And she’s enraged by the fact that she does. They’re both horny as hell but too stubborn and dealing with too much trauma to figure it out properly. Until they finally do. (Seriously such a good fic I literally almost cried at the ending it’s fucking perfect & so well done)
Sun is Gonna Shine [by monroeslittle on fanfic.net, 12k words, explicit] — Despite Katniss’s reluctance, they have a baby. (And it’s gorgeous & Haymitch made me sob)

predictions for her next strike book (or even the hinted "earthbound scifi" novel if you feel so inclined)?
Let's go!
Strike 8 aka The Hallmarked Man : So far we've had a few clues - a Freemason hall picture which served as Jo's header on twitter, a series of three emoji (the most mysterious of them being the symbol for DNA), and the title itself. Beyond the general idiom, a "hallmark" is specifically used in jewelry to mark an object's value (usually in silver). JKR's titles often have multiple meanings. On one hand, if Freemasons are involved i can't see her portraying them as the cultish, vaguely antisemitic "we rule the world" cliché, she'd probably subvert this trope hard. That being said, she has not done "secret society / deep state" yet. Jo's said in the past that she tries to do something different with each of the Strike books. So far, there's always been a murder, but it doesn't always happen at the start and isn't always the reason why Strike and Robin are hired. I think in THM : 1) the dead person will show up at the start and it'll be a man (just because we've had three murdered girls/women in a row, and TRG was a missing person's case first) ; 2) it'll be someone important but, for political reasons, the circumstances of his death will have to stay secret. Maybe for a reason tied with the DNA emoji choice. I don't know but i'm getting James Bond vibes from this one. My second theory is that the Hallmarked Man is actually a statue or some other kind of valueable art piece. Again, so far we haven't done the art world and it's RIPE with potential weird murder cases implicating very powerful and dangerous people, possible fakery, money embezzlement, etc.
Other future Strikes : No idea for book 9, but book 10 has GOT to be about solving Leda's murder. The cycle must be completed!!
Mystery sci-fi book : All we know is it's "earthbound" and "not a space opera". The thing is, all JKR's books so far (including The Ickabog! possibly not The Christmas Pig, i have not yet read this one) feature lots and lots of characters and that tends to be a trope of space operas! Whereas more grounded sci-fi is more likely to be more intimate, or even a solitary affair. Sci fi stories with many characters that are NOT space operas tend to be about humanity, survival and the construction of something… usually in space, or an "alien" environment (trapped in a space ship, trapped on a foreign planet, etc.). I don't have a more definitive theory but i'm curious about what she'll do!

My issue with Miquella isn't the whole Radahn oath. I think it was mutual and all Radahn asked for in exchange was 'an honorable death.' So Miquella sent his sister to fight him since she was the best. Neither party expected her to fail and have to nuke Caelid thus delaying the plan. My issue is that it seems to me that he is way too willing to charm people to force them to get along. See his followers and how blood thirsty Leda is the second the charm breaks. Assassin's Creed 4 summed up how I feel about that well. 'You would see all mankind corralled into a neatly furnished prison. Safe and sober, yet dulled beyond reason and sapped of all spirit.' Again, the game proves no one has a perfect solution. Miquella isn't a villain at all. But another person with an imperfect solution and stuff like that is why I love the game so much. There is no right answer. Just answers that work for some but not all. On a side note, kind of wish they added an ending for him since it was hinted at in cut content when the game came out. Just like not attack for a minute and survive and you can get a new ending or something.
yeah, i wholeheartedly agree! i talk positively about miquella a lot but you're absolutely right; miquella's so desperate to bring about a gentler world that he is too willing to charm people to force them to get along. that's tampering with free will and definitely not a good thing. i also agree that the fact no-one's entirely right is something that makes this game so fun; it opens a lot of interesting things to think about and consider!
and yeeeeeeeah, i'm... not only salty that there's no miquella ending, but honestly kind of confused about it too? as you said, it was hinted at in cut content; and personally, i think it would've made a lot of sense to have one. miquella invites us to yield the path forward to him and radahn, so... why can't we actually get the option to do that? it's super strange to me and, personally, i feel like it was a missed opportunity in what was otherwise a really solid DLC.

Better Days ~ Chapter Nine
A/N: This is the follow up to Playing With Fire, but can be read as a standalone. I thought Frerin deserved a nice, steamy romp just like his older brother got with Leda, so this is his story. I know I’ve got like three other fics to update, but I thought maybe I’d throw this out there and see what everyone thought of it…
Summary: Frerin Durin had the perfect life, until he found out his wife was cheating on him. Now, he’s navigating uncharted territory as an about-to-be divorced single dad. Dating is a mess, he’s dealing with the fallout where his kids are concerned, and really, he would just love a vacation away from all of it.
Elena Madison is new to Sidleburg, and also navigating life as a newly single parent. The last thing she needed was for her daughter to come down sick, when she hasn’t even had time to unpack the moving boxes, never mind find a pediatrician. And the last thing she ever expected was to meet a man like Dr. Frerin Durin…
Neither Elena nor Frerin were looking for anything, but fate has a way of messing up even the best laid plans. However, both have been hurt and both aren't at all sure they trust themselves, never mind trusting someone else...
Pairings:  Modern!Frerin  x ofc Elena Madison
Characters: Frerin, Thorin, Elena, Carol, Ashley, Vanessa, various patients, and a resident who gets chewed out.
Warnings: None
Rating: T
Word Count: 3.8k

Elena felt a pang of disappointment when she stepped onto the gym floor and saw what seemed like everyone in the world but Frerin there. Oh, well. It wasn't like they had a gym date. Besides, he worked nights. He had to be exhausted come six AM, so if he decided to go home and get some sleep, who could blame him?
Still, the disappointment was there and there was no denying. The best she could do was try to ignore it as she moved to the row of flat benches to claim one, setting her bag down beside the last empty one. Chest day was her worst, as it seemed if she missed a single workout, it sent her right back to the beginning, all progress lost.
She wiped down the bench and when it dried, settled to warm up with just the bar. She had been up to one hundred and twenty-five before she and Alyssa moved to Sidleburg, and as she placed the plates on the bar, she offered up a silent prayer she could still push that much weight.
After chalking her hands and lying flat, Elena gripped the bar and carefully lifted it from its rests. A little tough, but nothing she couldn’t handle, although by tenth rep, her arms were shaky. One-thirty was only slightly more difficult.
She realized halfway through her set of one-thirty-five that she’d made a terrible mistake as her arms trembled and the muscles screamed at her in protest. Gritting her teeth, she struggled to get the bar back up, a call for help bubbling to her lips.
“I’ve got you,” came a familiar voice and Frerin’s hands appeared between hers to grip the bar and he helped her guide it back to its rests. “You okay?”
Heat flooded her, but this time there was nothing pleasant about it. No, it was the scalding blush of abject embarrassment. She knew better. She definitely knew better. “I’m fine,” she managed, swallowing hard against the idiocy flowing through her. “I was a little too confident, I guess.”
“It happens. I almost dropped a bar on my face last week trying to push myself. That weird grunter guy saved my ass, believe it or not.”
“Grunty?”
“That’s the one.”
She sat up with a wince, rubbing just below her collarbone, where the muscle burned some. “You’re lucky he didn't drop it on you. I’m convinced he’s more show than actual muscle.”
“He’s lucky he didn't drop it on me.” He dropped his bag beside hers. “And I’m sorry I’m late. My ex-wife was supposed to be at the house by ten, but didn't get there until almost ten-thirty.”
“It’s fine. It’s not like we had a date.”
“Yeah, but I said I’d be here and I try to keep my word.” He crouched before her. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yeah, I just feel stupid. I know better than to lift my usual when I’ve taken time off. I should’ve had a spotter.”
“Yeah, you should’ve.” He smiled. “But, you’re okay and that’s the important thing.”
She looked around at the bodies crowding the floor. “These are not my gym people. I wouldn’t trust any of them.”
“Didn’t you say that about the other gym people as well?”
“Yeah. They’re all weirdos here.” She reached for her water bottle. “Did she give you a hard time?”
“Toni?” He shook his head. “No more than usual. She can’t quite understand why I don't want her just walking into my house.”
“Is it your house?”
“Damn straight it is. I bought her out last summer. I figured it was easier than waiting for a judge to order that we sell it and split the proceeds and have to uproot the kids and move.” He crouched to unzip the bag. “But, she still thinks of it as her house. Gets highly insulted that I won’t let her treat it that way any longer.”
She watched him rummage through the bag, and wondered if she should ask the question hovering on her lips. But, nothing ventured, so… “When will your divorce be finalized?”
“I have no idea. It depends on how much fighting we do, I guess. I told you she’s trying to get custody of the kids, didn't I?”
She nodded. “Yeah, but they don't want to live with her.”
“Right and you really don't want to hear all the grimy details about my divorce, do you?”
“Frerin, it’s okay. I wouldn’t ask if I didn't want to know.”
He sighed softly, raking a hand through his hair. “It just seems like something that would make you run like hell in the other direction, hearing me go on like a bitter broken record.”
“So, let’s talk about something else.”
“Like what?”
“Like…” She rose from the bench. “You showing me how you hulk out when you’re of the right mindset.”
He smiled then, and she could almost see his spirits lift. “I just did chest the other day, remember.”
“Frerin, that was Tuesday. You should be beyond recovered from then by now.”
“I should be, but I’m old and I don't bounce back the way I used to, you know.”
“Please. Somehow, I really doubt that’s true.”
“Spot me.” He winked. “Just in case.”
“Brave man.”
“Yeah. Balls run in my family.”
She moved around to the head of the bench to get out of his way as he added a more forty-five pound plates, and a ten-pound plate to each side. He sank onto the bench, then bent to rummage through his bag once more, coming up with black and red wrist wraps. Velcro crackled as he unrolled them, then wrapped each wrist, and then he stretched out on his back and wrapped his hands about the bar.
The bar clanked softly as he slowly lifted it and while she didn't think he’d need her help, she made sure her hands were at the ready all the while trying like hell not to notice the way his black, long-sleeved workout top clung to the muscles he worked. Tried like hell not to notice how huge his hands were, or how thick his fingers were.
Tried like hell not to notice how hot he was or how much she enjoyed fooling around with him on the sofa the other night.
Tried like hell not to think about what having sex with him would be like.
That was the most difficult of to not think about because it was pretty much all she could think about. It had been a long time since she’d been attracted to any man, and the attraction she felt for him was far more powerful than any she remembered.
But, she managed to hide it.
At least, she hoped she did.
He lowered the bar to his chest, then pushed it back up with almost no effort. But by the tenth rep, a hint of tiredness wove into his exhale and he let out a heavy breath as he set the bar back on its rests. “I’m getting too old to work overnights,” he groaned, maneuvering out from beneath the bar.
He sat up and rubbed his eyes with one hand. Elena crouched alongside him. “If you’re tired, go home and get some sleep. You have a nice quiet house, take advantage of it.”
“I won’t be able to sleep just yet. Still too keyed up from work.”
“Rough night?”
“Not really.” He reached for his water and unscrewed the cap, then brought it to his lips for a long swallow. “I only had two kids. One got bitten by his kid sister and the other learned the hard way why jumping off the top bunk is a bad idea. Other than that,” he recapped the bottle to set on the floor, “I was dealing with adults all night. The ER was a zoo and like every other department in that hospital, they’re short-staffed.”
“So you take one for the team.”
He nodded. “I take one for the team. And you know, I’d rather deal with kids. Adults kind of suck.”
She couldn't help her chuckle. “That depends on your point of view. I had to listen to four classes of seventh graders piss and moan over having to write five pages during break.”
“Wow, what a bitch Mrs. Madison is.”
“Right?”
He stood then. “What weight do you want?”
“I think I’m done with bench presses. That last one actually kind of hurt.”
“Yeah? You want me to take a look? I am a doctor, you know.”
“Playing doctor here would be a bad idea,” she said without thinking.
“Somewhere else would be a good one, though.”
“It might be.” She smiled up at him and nudged him gently in the ribs. “But, I think I’m okay so down, boy.”
He grinned and without warning, bent to kiss her. It was a brief, light kiss, and when he drew back, he said, “I’ve been thinking about that since I left your place the other night.”
She smiled, her belly alive with butterflies at the look in his pale blue eyes. “Of course you were.”
“No, really, I have been.” He moved to add a five pound plate to the near end of the bar, then went around to the opposite side. “I like the way you kiss.”
“Well, there’s something I don't think I’ve ever heard.”
“Yeah?” He slid the second five pound plate into place. “Well, I do.”
He came back around to where she stood and smiled down at her. “Spot for me again?”
She looked at the weights. “All that is standing between you and death by being squished, is me. Are you sure about this?”
“Yeah, I’m sure. You’ll be fine.”
“You’re a brave man, Dr. Durin.”
He stretched back out on the bench, looked up at her, and winked, then curled his fingers about the bar once more. Ten reps, a little wobbly at the end, five more pounds put on. Little by little, the gym began to fill up and a step class started up. The instructor propped open both classroom doors, so the techno music drowned out all sound.
Frerin sat up and twisted toward the classroom. “Is that woman deaf? The floor is vibrating.”
He wasn't wrong. The weights on their rests moved from the vibration of the music and shaking her head, Elena said, “I can’t even hear myself think.”
“You want to go somewhere a little quieter?”
She smiled. “Are you asking me out again?”
“Yeah. Let’s go get a cup of coffee of something. This is bullshit.”
“I’m not exactly dressed for it.”
“Me, neither, and I don't look half as good as you do.”
“Uh, I’m a train wreck.”
“Nah.” He moved to tug the weights off the far end of the bar. “You’re a hot mess, which is better than a train wreck.”
“Is that so?” She grabbed the plates off the other end of the bar.
“Oh, yeah.” He nodded before turning to cross over to the wipes dispenser, where he grabbed two antiseptic wipes to bring back, and then proceeded to wipe down the bench and the bar. “So, what do you say?”
“Sure.”
“Great.” He smiled and moved back to crouch by his bag. He zipped it, stood, slung the strap over his shoulder and gestured toward the stairs. “After you.”
She picked up her bag and headed to the stairs and when they were at street level, said, “So, where should I meet you?”
“I can drive us both and we come back for your car.”
“Are you sure? I don't want to make you have to come all the way back.”
“Yeah, I’m sure.” He smiled. “I’m the Infiniti in the corner.”
He pointed to a silver QX50 parked somewhat off-kilter in between a Camry and an Elantra and as the rain fell harder, his hand came to rest at the small of her back. “Shall we?”
“Sure.” She let him hurry her toward the car, which he unlocked with the fob in one hand. When they reached it, he moved around her to tug open the passenger door and as she sank into the dark gray leather seat, he closed the door behind her.
The rear door opened and he tossed his bag onto the back seat, slammed that door, then climbed into the drive’s seat and hit the ignition button to turn over the engine. “We’re going to get looks, you know,” she said as he set the defroster on high and kicked on the rear defroster as well.
“Probably. But what are the odds we will ever see any of them ever again?”
She smiled as she sat back. “True. I just hope I don't smell.”
He looked over at her, one hand resting at the top of the steering wheel. “You didn't in there,” he said, nodding toward the gym building. “I think you’re safe. But,” he let out a slow exhale, “if you’d rather not go, you can just say so, you know. I’m a big boy. I can handle rejection.”
“If I didn't want to go, I wouldn’t have said yes,” she told him softly.
He leaned over then and as his lips met hers, she slid one hand along his neck, her fingers stretching up into his hair. His lips moved gently against hers and she parted them, his tongue soft and teasing as it swept along hers.
The car’s interior seemed to warm quickly, and when he drew back, she saw the windows had actually steamed up a little, which made her smile. “I have fogged a car’s widows in a long time.”
“Yeah, me, neither,” he said with a breathless laugh. “And we should probably go if we’re going before someone calls the cops on us.”
She sat back. “Probably a good idea.”
He winked and eased the transmission into reverse to back out of the spot, shifted into drive, and maneuvered out of the parking lot, out onto Route Seven. Rain pattered the windshield, but the wipers made almost no sound as they swept back and forth to clear it.
“I’m amazed that you’re so awake,” she told him.
“I’m used to working overnights,” he told her, his hand resting on the gearshift, his long fingers relaxed over the knob. “And it’s better if I push through until nine or ten in the morning, then get some sleep.”
“It’s almost elven-thirty. Are you working tonight?”
“Six, yeah. I’ll be fine. I’ll go home and get a few hours’ sleep and hope it’s quiet tonight.”
“What if it isn’t?”
“Coffee becomes my best friend.”
“Frerin.”
“What? It does.”
“Isn’t that dangerous?”
“I’ll be fine, my patients will be fine. My nights are usually quiet.”
She shook her head. “Still, this could’ve waited.”
“Yeah,” he bobbed his head, “it could’ve, but I wanted to see you.”
Those words sent a delicious flutter through her, one she hadn’t felt probably since high school. “I would have understood.”
His hand rose from the shift and came to rest atop hers, and he linked his fingers with hers. “I didn't want to wait another day if I didn’t have to.”
As he spoke, those fingers tightened and his thumb brushed along the outside of her hand to send another rush through her. “Again, I’d have understood.”
He glanced over at her and grinned. “Am I pulling you away from anything?”
“Not at all. Alyssa is getting cranky—she just wants to get back to her life, so I’m glad to get out of the house for a little while.”
“What’re the two of you doing for Christmas?”
“Christmas?” She sighed softly. “We’ll do Christmas morning, then I’m taking her to Newark to catch a one o’clock flight to Florida.”
“Florida? Her dad?”
“Close. Her grandparents. She’ll spend the break with them and come home on New Year’s Day. What about you?”
“They’ll go to their mother’s on Christmas and be home the day after.”
“So, you’ll be alone on Christmas, too?”
He nodded. “Yeah, I’ll probably go over to my brother’s for the day. It’s the twins’ first Christmas and our sister and her boys will be there as well.”
“That sounds like a lovely way to spend the holiday.”
He glanced over at her. “Noisy, is what it will be. Between Fíli and Kíli and six month old babies? I’m going to make it a short stay.”
The traffic light at Seven and Harper Street turned yellow, so Frerin slowed and as he did, the pager in the console began buzzing. He snagged it, glaring at the readout. “It’s the hospital. I have to answer this.”
“I get it. It’s okay.”
He pulled off into a parking lot and took his cell phone from the clip on the dashboard. “It’s Dr. Durin, someone paged me?”
He glanced over at her and nodded. “Yeah, she came through the ER around midnight. They were waiting for a bed to open up in Ortho and she was supposed to go up then.” A pause. “Are you kidding me? She’s still there? Okay, who’s on for the Ortho—no, you know what, never mind. I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
He hung up and slapped the phone back onto the clip. “I have to swing by the hospital. Remember the kid I told you about who jumped off the top bunk?”
“Yeah.”
“She’s still in the ER waiting on Ortho, so I’m going to go in and yell at whoever is on for making a ten year old sit in the ER all night on a leg that needs surgical repair. I can run you back to your car if you don’t feel like hanging around.”
“No, it’s fine.” She smiled. “I kind of want to see you in your element, when my kid is not the patient.”
He signaled and carefully pulled back into to traffic and a a few minutes later, he was pulling into the physician’s parking area of the lot. “Hopefully this won’t take too long.”
She climbed out of the Infiniti. “Don’t worry about it. It takes as long as it takes. I don't mind waiting.”
He pushed the door shut and she fell into step alongside him. “Now, you run the Pediatrics Department, right?”
“That’s right.”
“So, why are you in the ER?”
“We, like everyone else in the world, are short staffed. Too much burnout and not enough docs, so I’ve been covering when I can, like everyone else here.”
“That sounds exhausting.”
“It is. I mean, you get used to it, but that doesn’t necessarily make it easier.”
Elena braced herself for the icy rain as they emerged from the deck to the narrow roadway where ambulances and cars could pull up right to the ER’s doors, and turned her head to the side as the wind swept the droplets harder against her.
The doors opened automatically and Elena scuffed her feet across the mats to dry the soles of her shoes so she wouldn’t slip and as the inner doors opened, Frerin caught her by the hand, explaining, “So I don’t lose you.”
He wasn't kidding. The ER was a madhouse, far busier than it was the night she’d brought Alyssa in. They passed through the ER waiting area, which was almost out of seats, it was so crowded, and at the doors, Frerin tugged his ID from his jacket pocket to swipe it, and as the doors opened, he said, “Carol, who’s on for Ortho this morning?”
A petite blonde looked up from her notes, her forehead creasing. “Frerin, what are you doing back?”
“Ashley paged me about Hailey Miller. She’s still down here?”
Carol nodded. “Yeah, her mother’s been hounding us about getting her moved, but we have to wait for the consult and no one’s come down yet. It always gets like this when Harris is away and she’s in Maui until after the New Year.”
“Of course she is.”
“Frerin,” another nurse in cranberry stepped away from the radio, “Thirty-Seven is bringing in the victims of a two car collision out on Seven.”
“How many?”
“Five. Two are being airlifted to Robert Wood in New Brunswick, but the other three are on their way here and will be rolling up at any minute.”
“Wonderful.” Frerin clipped his ID to his tee shirt. “Do me a favor and find out who’s on in Ortho and tell them I want a word with them now.”
He looked back atCarol. “This is Elena Madison, would you mind showing her to the lounge while I go and find out what’s going on up there?”
“Not at all.” Carol smiled. “Come with—”
Before she could get the rest of the words out, the double doors leading from the waiting room slammed open and paramedics rushed in. “Seventeen year old driver of two-car MVA with crush injuries to lower extremities, BP is—”
Elena jumped out of the way as they hurried by her and just before he crossed into the exam room, Frerin looked over his shoulder at her. “I’ll be out when I can, Elena.”
“It’s okay!” She looked over at Carol. “Just point me in the right direction. They probably need you in there.”
Carol nodded. “Down around the corner, first door on your right.”
And with that, she was gone as well as more paramedics rolled up. From where she stood, Elena could see Frerin in the sage green tiled room, stethoscope in his ears, his attention on the injured kid on his table.
“Look out!”
She jumped aside once more, her, “I’m sorry,” lost in the clatter and whir of metal wheels. Since she didn't want to get hit again, or be in anyone’s way, she hurried down to the lounge and pushed open the door.
A willowy brunette was making coffee and turned as Elena came into the room. “Patients aren’t supposed to be back here. Is there something I can help you with?”
“Oh, I’m not a patient. I’m here with Dr. Durin.”
The brunette’s already wide dark eyes widened further. “Really? He’s not on right now as far as I know.”
“He isn’t, someone paged him about a patient and he came back just in time for the car accident to come in. I’m just waiting for him.”
“Oh. Okay. He knows you’re here?”
“I came with him, so yes, he does.”
“Okay. Then, I guess make yourself comfortable and if you’d like some coffee, there’s milk and half and half in the fridge.”
“Thank you.”
The nurse smiled and finished setting the coffeepot before going back out onto the floor. It was far quieter in the lounge than on the floor and Elena sighed softly as she sank onto the cracked leatherette sofa along the far wall.

Dylan laughed as he teased about how his job was entirely exciting to all. "I mean I think it depends on the subject the symposium is coverin', but I'm sure that if ya told me 'bout it it would sound cool." She offered as she felt like she was still connected to academia enough where things that might sound lame to some wouldn't to her. Dylan was probably going to be visiting the university he worked at more often too when she started back in a few weeks. She raised her brows as it sounded like James was maybe having a hard time finding free time outside of work. "Been pretty busy then? I'm sorry to hear that."
Dylan regretted the apology as soon as he started teasing her on their run in. "Yeah well I definitely can't say I was expectin' it. She liked ya, which I'm sure ya could tell. I think if she hadn't been leavin' the next day she'd have invited ya over to have dinner." That would have been even more awkward and I don't know whether or not James would have even agreed to it unless of course it was to torture Dylan. "The twins are doin' great, they've been completely adorable and only get real fussy at night. Actually she's Mama Ida. But I definitely miss her, though I don't think Leda and Lysander really aren't aware she's gone." She admitted with a small laugh, a smile still on her face because it was always there when talking about her children. "I'd ask if ya want to see photos, but I don't know if that's weird?"

@jamesxreed
James had already agreed to the meet-up when he realized where they were meeting. He was sure Dylan meant nothing of it which made it funnier to him than it was awkward. Sure, it wasn't the same market they used to go to before but the similarities were there.
He had also debated whether it was okay for them to meet up like this. James didn't want to pry as to what the actual status was between her and the father of her twins. There was a bit of uneasiness in him, he had to admit, but perhaps this was the awkwardness the both of them had to navigate now.
"At work?" he heaved a sigh as he walked up to her. "Do symposiums count as exciting?" If they were, he certainly wasn't excited by them. "I'm just savoring every second I'm able to spend out of a lecture hall or my apartment right now." He smirked. "Nothing will top meeting your mom. It started out awkward but ended up being very fun for me."
He gave a laugh. "How are the twins? Missing their Gammy yet?"

So real trashy question!! Of all the queens who goes for the demure small fake tits and who is going full on Elvira/Dolly Parton? Do any of the larger queens use some of their natural padding for lack of a better term?
I love it, let's talk tits. (I am the occasionally proud, occasionally annoyed grower of a very ample bosom. I have some Thoughts.)
Leda House wears them on the larger size for proportion reasons and because she likes the look of them in her corseted gowns. She uses old fashioned chicken cutlets and prefers that. The Kraken actually used none for awhile, but now does a very reasonable mid-sized situation because the realism makes her happier than enormous ones would.
Ethel does wear proportionally large ones to trick the eye a little more. Teal went big mostly for fun and because they move the way she likes when she dances.
Frenchie is very demure because Frenchie likes to get very close to a natural woman look as she can in drag. She wears a full breast plate and will definitely wear a lacy see-through number on occasion to show it off.
Roach has a bunch of different sizes depending on mood and can never be reliably predicted.
Pete has the same padded out bra that she's been wearing for years and just switches the foam out when it starts to get deflated. She will not be talked into anything else because it's the only things he has from her drag mother.
Miss Buttons does not pad at all, not breasts, not hips, not ass. She is however, very good at using her clothes to create an illusion and weirdly has the most realistic wigs. Absolutely no one has the guts to ask about this.
And just for equality's sake, Jude Package and the Menace both use packers occasionally. Jude, as his name implies, likes one that is comically large and will frequently just use socks to create the shape that he wants. The Menace likes a mid-size, big enough to noticed, small enough to be realistic.

The Long Con Part Nine
Previous Part | Masterlist | Next Part Pairing: Marcus Pike x Reader Rating: T Notes: I hope y’all had a good week! 💕 Warnings: Cursing, fluff, me pretending that I know literally anything about art history or art forgery— again. Summary: You wound up spending much of the day holed up in Marcus’ room, sitting at his desk with the numerous print-outs, a marker, a notebook, and his laptop.
Tumblr media
You offered to help Marcus with the wedding errands that needed to be done, but he could see how distracted you were by the print-outs he’d been able to get of the x-rays and craquelure of Leda and the Swan. He shook his head, nodding to where you’d already set up shop at his desk. “Don’t worry about wedding stuff today,” He reassured, smiling. Then he tipped your head up for a quick peck and left.
You wound up spending much of the day holed up in Marcus’ room, sitting at his desk with the numerous print-outs, a marker, a notebook, and his laptop. You looked for comparisons between the x-rays of the Mona Lisa, Da Vinci’s sketches of Leda, and the other reproductions that you were more familiar with. Jill actually had to come up and draw you out of the room by taking Marcus’ laptop charging cord hostage.
When Marcus returned that evening, he found you folding programs with laser focus.
“Having fun?” He teased, settling down beside you on the floor. You were leaning back against the couch, as you had when you and Marcus had been putting the favors together.
“Mhm,” You hummed lightly, peering down at the program and lining up the corners of the paper before smoothing down the middle. Marcus picked up an unfolded program, beginning to fold them as you did.
“How were um-- Errands, how’d they… You know?” You asked absently. “They were fine. Tuxes have been acquired, venue’s got the final headcount, seating chart and favors, photographer’s got the shot list.” “Has Marnie called the hotel they’re staying at and found out if there was an upgrade available?” You glanced at Marcus, “Might be able to get something if she mentions it’s her wedding weekend.” Marcus’ brows rose. “I don’t think she has, but I’ll find out.” “Should probably check in with wherever the rehearsal dinner is being held, too,” You added, turning back to the programs. “I’ll keep that in mind...Are you okay?” Marcus asked as you dropped another folded program atop the pile. “Mhm.” “Hey,” Marcus reached out, setting his hand on your arm. You glanced over at him. “S’wrong?” “You seem a little tense,” He scooched closer, thigh pressing against yours, “I can take over program folding,” He added. “She’s mad at me,” Jill called from the kitchen. “I am not mad!” You called back. “What happened?” Marcus frowned, glancing between the two of you. Jill came into the living room, leaning over the back of the couch and peering down at the two of you. “I made her come out from hunching over those photos that you printed out this morning,” She told Marcus as you pointedly folded another program. Busted. “How long were you in there?” Marcus asked, rubbing his hand over the back of your neck gently. “Since you left. I only got the damn cord away from her half an hour ago,” Jill answered, pushing off of the couch, “Speakin’a which, you hungry, Marky?” You snickered, muttering, “Marky.” “No thanks, mom.” “What about you, honey?” “No thank you, Jill,” You glanced back, offering her a smile before dropping another program atop the pile. Marcus watched her go before he leaned a little closer. “Were you able to work anything out?” He asked, picking up another page. “Nothing substantive,” You grumbled, folding the page and setting it aside. Marcus set his on the pile before he drew you into his chest. You pouted a little, slouching against him as you reached for the next page. “You know I’ve got the team working on this, too, right? And the team working out of the Louvre.” “I know,” You mumbled. “So relax,” Marcus murmured, turning his head and pressing a kiss to your temple. “I’m incredibly relaxed. I’m also very focused on folding these programs.” “Sweetheart, programs do not need to be that perfect.”
“Agree to disagree.” You felt Marcus’ fingers tuck under your chin and turn your head to look at him. You paused in your folding, blinking up at him. “You sure you’re alright?” He asked gently. You were not— but what was one more lie in this house? “Yeah,” You murmured before you leaned up, taking a chance and pecking Marcus’ lips. You felt him smile as he cupped your cheek, keeping you close as he deepened the kiss. You sighed, relaxing a little more and resting a hand on his thigh. As the kiss broke, you rested your head against his neck, closing your eyes as Marcus rubbed his hand over your shoulder. “...Feel better?” He asked quietly. “I think so.” “I can do that anytime,” He added after a moment, and you smiled, pressing your face into the crook of his neck. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
-- “You still doing that?” Marcus asked. “Hm?” You glanced back at him, catching sight of him in his pajamas. Jill had relinquished the laptop cord shortly after dinner, and Marcus had freed you of program-folding duty. “What...Time is it?” You asked, frowning. “It’s a little after midnight,” Marcus walked over to stand behind you, bracing his hands on the back of your chair and looking over your work, “You comin’ to bed?” You knew that you should— it had been a long day (after Jill had finally ceded the charging cord), and you were a bit tired. “Uh… N--No, not yet—” “C’mon,” Marcus murmured, leaning down and wrapping his arms around your shoulders, “You need to get some sleep.” “I know, I’m gonna, I just— I think I’m really close to something here,” You admitted, looking up at Marcus, “I wanna chase it down. I’ll take it into the living room so the light doesn’t keep you up,” You added, starting to gather up some of the materials. “If you’re sure,” Marcus conceded softly, “But get some sleep, huh?” “I will.” “Promise?” You glanced up at Marcus, smiling. “Promise.” He nodded, leaning in and pressing a kiss to your forehead before heading to bed.
--
You leaned away from the markups on the coffee table, dropping your marker with a shaky hand.
You’d made a call to where she’d been sent, and found out she had had her sentence shortened. She’d been out for nearly three years— she’d missed parole; there was a warrant out for her arrest. You hadn’t wanted to believe it was her work, you hadn’t, but you’d found the messages she always left. One was in the x-rayed under layers of the wreath of flowers around the swan’s neck: ‘Dominus ad ludere’. And then, another x-rayed layer, within one of the grey layers of the painting, near the darkened fold of the swan’s wing: ‘Ad opus domini’. The master at play, the master at work.  The lettering was small, difficult to spot, but you knew that handwriting, and you knew exactly where to look. You couldn’t help the sick, twisting feeling in your stomach as you picked up your phone. You grabbed your notebook where you’d jotted down your notes on the sketches and brushstrokes, the notes that she’d left behind, and you hurried out to the porch. You sat on the porch swing, peering out into the dark and settling your notebook on your lap. You tucked the phone against your ear, listening as it rang. “Special Agent Melinda Yuen,” Came the answer when the phone was picked up. You were fond of Marcus’ colleague; aside from Marcus, she was who you’d worked the closest with. “Hi, Mel, it’s me,” You said quietly, glancing toward the door. “Hey, professor! How ya been?” “Fine,” You smiled a little at her question, “You?” “I’m alright. If you’re calling looking for Marcus—” “No, I… I wanted to talk to you. Marcus sent me some of the stuff from that da Vinci picked up in Orléans. I took a look at it, it’s definitely not authentic.” “You got notes?” “You have a pen? I’m going to tell you exactly where to look.” You listed off the points and layers that you were able to identify, as well as the suspect for her to look into. Melinda went quiet on the other end for a moment. “Professor, isn’t that your grandm—” “Yes,” You answered hurriedly, “It is.” “...Shit. “My feelings exactly— Look, Mel, I’ve gotta ask you a favor.” “Sure.” “Don’t...Don’t tell Marcus who called this in until he’s back in D.C.” “Why not?” “Just, please?” You pleaded softly, glancing toward the door. “...I don’t know, professor—” “I’m not asking you to keep it from him forever, just-- Couple’a days.”
“Alright,” Melinda sighed softly, before, “How do you know when he’ll be back, anyway?” “Oh, he uh— mentioned he was going to his sister’s wedding. I don’t wanna ruin his weekend, you know. Figured if I got you on the first ring on this number he must be down there, ‘specially with this big of a case in the office,” You fibbed quickly. “You figure correctly,” Melinda chuckled, “I’ll get these notes over to the team. Night, professor.” “Night, Mel, and thanks.” “Hey, thank you.” You lowered your phone, hanging it up and peering out over the backyard again. You sighed softly, pushing the swing back and forth with one foot. “Can’t sleep?” You jumped at the sound of the question, huffing a shaky laugh at the sight of Marnie. “No,” You confirmed, “What about you?” “Nope,” Marnie sighed, walking over to sit beside you, “I was working on my vows.” “Big speech-writing day in the Pike household,” You teased. “That Marcus’?” Marnie nodded to your notebook. “O-Oh! No. Some uh… Stuff on that painting. Inconsistencies, little things,” You set the notebook down between the two of them, giving Marnie the option to pick it up. She left it be, giving you a little bit of relief in what had been a mostly hellish day. “Think it’s serious?” You shrugged, “Could be inconsequential.” You were already lying to Marnie so much, what was one more? Though, frankly, it made you feel a little crummy. You were growing very fond of Marcus’ family. They were warm, and welcoming. You’d always imagined having a family like them. “You and Marcus seem good, you know?” Marnie said, nudging your shoulder with hers, “I mean...Happy.” You smiled, lowering your eyes. “Your brother is... amazing. All of you are, I mean— I don’t know any family that would open their home to someone they don’t know for a night, let alone an entire week. And your mom— the way she pulled me out of Marcus’ room earlier,” The two of you chuckled, “Well. I’ve appreciated everything since I’ve been here, how kind you all have been.” “Oh,” Marnie reached out, patting your hand lightly, “We’re happy to. ‘Sides, Marcus is clearly smitten with you.” Your stomach churned with unease as you peered down at your hands. Marcus was a better actor than he gave himself credit for. You knew you’d make a liar out of him. “Makes two of us,” You mumbled. Damn, but that was the truth. AU Troy Character Timeline
Right, so I saw an incredible breakdown of Troy’s mental journey/state of ego last night ( that I’ll see if I can get permission to post at some point ) that really kicked my confidence into overdrive for writing out a definitive timeline for the version of him I write about in drabbles/fics etc as it was so amazingly similar. This isn’t complete, it couldn’t be because man I have a lot of stuff for this guy, but I hope it’s interesting for people maybe looking for a somewhat logical bunch of HC content that works well with the info we were given ingame.
Writing this was like doing a jigsaw puzzle. Except ten pieces are missing, and you have 2 dominos and a Mrs Cupcake card instead. If you like any of this, feel free to use it. I’ll eventually expand on it in my own works.
Pre Pandora Era - 28  years pre BL3
Severe self esteem / image issues from very early childhood. Leda’s death left Typhon both terrified of Tyreen and desperately paranoid about her safety, leaving Troy to feel far less valued and loved as he found himself constantly failing to compete for attention from his remaining parent.
Typhon never outright called Troy a freak, but he overheard plenty of discussions with his mother and with Tyreen explaining why he was so sick all the time, why he looked the way he did, why he was broken. He never discussed these, they festered in the back of his mind for the rest of his life.
Strived from an early age to be useful, being useful gave him the belief he was valued, and a “Great job kid!” from his father felt good enough that it could almost replace feeling loved.
Misses his mother intensely from the day she died, for the rest of his life. Had no one else to have platonic intimacy with bar his sister, which never felt as freely given as with his mother.
Developed an extremely crippled sense of social behavior and rules. The only people the Twins could interact with till they landed on Pandora ( which I HC was between 18 -19 ) were each other, and their Father.
Left alone on a giant empty planet with no one to tell them no, or instill an understanding of social rules to them regarding others, left them with only a feeling of personal value for each other. This is an extremely dangerous state of mind for any person who will need to function in a social structure, especially a person in power.
Had it hammered into them over and over by their father that the galaxy outside their home was filled with murderers. Animals. Bandit filth. Not like them, not like their parents, horrible, vicious things that would kill them the second they could.
Internalised that to the point where it was a crucial part of their development of self as children. The twins would genuinely struggle to comprehend any other human they met was a person, because they were told their whole developing lives that no one they would meet bar their father would be.
 Pre COV - 8 years pre BL3
Lands on Pandora with Tyreen. Woefully underprepared and worried sick, didn’t want to leave Nekro but had no other choice but to go with his sister or die. Misses his father immediately, but avoids talking about it, knowing it will cause an argument.
Disliked that their father had kept them on Nekro intensely, but not enough to hate him the way Tyreen did. This never changed and the regret for leaving him only rotted inside him over the years.
Very excited to finally meet new people, but his social skills are learned through watching old echos and while he can mimic them, he doesn’t understand social intricacies as well as he’d hoped. This sabotages their first few attempts to communicate with Pandoran non bandit natives.
Comes across as weird. Stutters, not good with eye contact, awkward in body language and very unnatural in appearance. Extremely tall (6″7), very thin and sickly looking with sallow skin and dark under eyes. His missing arm and quarter of his shoulder draw far more attention than he had ever expected and he becomes instantly self conscious of the damage to his right side, strongly disliking how it’s pointed out every time they try and interact with one of these idiots.
The twins only had the clothes they had travelled in and at this point they are pretty much rags patched together over nearly 2 decades. Didn’t understand how much appearances were going to matter, Troy had been sure he’d be able to “Mingle with the locals no problem.”, and now feels like he’s letting his sister down by failing to perform the way he’d been so sure of. They move onto the bandit clans once they get laughed out of the first small town they try to impress.
Their first few interactions with bandits have very bad results. They both get mocked a lot, Troy gets insulted even more. This is the first time in his life he’s met other men bar his father and the harsh reality that he is not like other men is really starting to hit hard. He’s monstrously tall, he has no muscle, he’s bony and sick and the bandits make very clear to him that he’s a freak.
Unable to defend himself verbally to people that don’t seem to speak a coherent language, he feels impotent and emasculated. Troy’s gift with words has always been his strong point, something he was proud of, and the bandits barely even understand what he’s saying. Any interest he’d had towards them as other people gets quashed. They clearly aren’t the same as he and Ty, they are beneath them. Savages. They aren’t people after all. His dad was right.
This is the point where he fully switches to seeing almost all others as non-persons. They aren’t people, they aren’t what he and Tyreen are, or they wouldn’t act like this in response to the twins. Any possible empathy he could have developed over time is aborted at this point, and he begins to craft the God King persona he understands he will need to disguise his shortcomings under if he’s going to be in the public’s eye.
Begins to create it piece by piece. Designs their outfits, designs his tattoos and mods, his monstrous arm, their name.
The Calypso twins are born, and the COV with them.
Early COV Era - 7 years pre BL3
As he learns how to communicate with bandits and craft a persona for Tyreen that they will be drawn to, the COV starts to form. While the huge majority of their followers are people they see as not even being the same species as them, they do also begin to fill the higher ranks with people they are meeting over time that they see as having value.
People with skills in categories they don’t, engineers, media experts, accountants, are drawn to the COV for the same reasons as the bandits. Opportunity, just a different sort.
Joining in the early days means having the twin’s ears, and those who have excellent ideas, or bring talent to the upper echelon that the twin's don’t have themselves, eventually end up as high priests and Saints. Department leaders (eg: Mouthpiece ). These are the kind of people he sees as people, though still not on par with himself or his sister in value. These are the few he would be capable of having functional conversations with, building simple relationships.
He has found value in his ability to be very useful within the COV. Leading the Media and Propaganda department has given him a huge amount of power, even if he still physically feels extremely frail.
He’s settled into living in Tyreen’s shadow, she’s the star, but he’s the puppeteer, and he’s happy for it to be that way for the most part. While she can sometimes step out of line or treat him like he’s not equal, he’s quick to remind her of her place during these outbursts, and their relationship is relatively stable.
Troy is fiercely loyal and surprisingly gentle with people he has a bond with. Despite his desperation to have meaningful connections, to be cared for and liked as himself, they don’t stay around him long.
No matter how hard he tries to give them what he thinks they want, they eventually leave, and he doesn’t understand that they are distancing themself because of how he treats other people, not them.
Troy’s complete inability to view the vast majority of people as people means he has a total lack of empathy towards almost everyone else, and this is a terrifying thing to experience first hand. He doesn’t understand this is why his “friends” leave, why they stop being friendly with him, or request to be transferred to another district.
“Why did you do that to them..?” - “Huh? Ohhhh, relax haha, it’s just a bandit.” - “What do you mean, just a bandit, they felt that Troy, what’s wrong with you?’ - "The hell? No, it’s a b.a.n.d.i.t. It’s not like us, it’s not like you, it’s just.. you know, a bandit! Doesn’t matter what I do to em.” -shrug- - “-horrified silence-”
He blames himself each time this happens and damages his already fractured self esteem further. He can’t comprehend that his actions are the problem, because he simply has no way to understand his actions are bad.
Each time someone close to him leaves, it’s another hit to his already crumbling self worth. He has absolutely no strong bonds with anyone bar his sister, who at times seems to barely like him, and he is genuinely desperate for validation and care from someone who likes Troy, not Calypso, not the God he pretends to be.
Every time another one of his “friends” vanishes, another of his little connections to his own humanity breaks. He gets angrier, and sadder, the God King a little more snarling and quicker to snap. It’s a sore point Tyreen tends to dig in during arguments too.
She doesn’t need anyone else, but she’s seen the near manic excitement and happiness he has when he connects with another person over a shared interest or they show actual genuine kindness towards him and not his title. If that person then becomes upset with his lack of empathy, or scared of it and abandons him, it’s another open wound on the already dying soul inside him that’s barely still breathing.
He has a complete and defined understanding of right and wrong, but those rules only apply to people, and his social development from infant to adult left his comprehension of other people so stunted, he cannot fathom that the vast majority of others are people.
God King Calypso is a fucking nightmare to anyone bar the select view he sees as “people like him”. A feral, cackling monster, as likely to airdrop a million dollars onto a tiny village and record the reaction, as he is to rip a bandits arms off during a raid and live steam them bleeding out. All the same to him. Just background NPCs in his game. Placeholder actors in his life. They don’t matter. All that does matter is how they make him feel, or how they further his sister’s goals.
Every year that passes by leaves the God King more polished and defined, more in control a persona, while inside its impenetrable shell Troy DeLeon is slowly being suffocated by the weight of his own sins, without having the ability to understand he had been sinning at all.
God King Era - 4 years pre Bl3
By this point, Troy’s isolation is now deadly. He is a deity, worshipped by billions, with absolutely no points of human contact in his life to anchor himself to reality. No one to help him understand how to apply his sense of right and wrong to his followers, only his sister, who is even more toxic and vicious than he is.
Every day since starting the COV, he’s distanced himself further from the worshippers, the bandits, the acolytes. They are screaming war meat now, they are chips to barter with, numbers on a viewer count, flesh to tear into when he wants to feel something.
His relationship with Tyreen is crumbling. She’s quicker now to imply he’s not as important, he’s not the Siren. She’s called him a parasite in front of a merger board, a burden during a discussion with department heads. Each new crack at his inner ego only strengthens the persona further. Makes it more attention seeking, more willing to lash out at others, more vicious.
His “friends"are long gone, either fled from the behemoth the COV now is, or far away in other districts, planets, cities. The people he is close with now in working relationships are held at arms length. He doesn’t let anyone near him anymore, he’s afraid they will leave too if he does.
The isolation pushes him further into the God King persona every day. If he’s Troy Calypso, he doesn’t NEED anyone else. The further he sinks into it, the more aggressive, the more twisted his actions become, but he doesn't see it that way. This is what his followers want, so it must be fine. Why wouldn’t it be fine to ravenously tear into heretics on livestream if 8 billion people are tuning in to watch?
He’s becoming cruel, he’s becoming vicious, but the man he was before he reached Pandora is still whispering that Tyreen is treating him wrong. That this isn’t how it was meant to be, that he’s not weak or a burden.
But listening to that voice means also having to listen to the one telling him he’s warped into something disgusting that his mother would be so let down by, that his father was right about him being a broken monstrosity. He continues to ignore it, and he loses himself further every day.
The deeper he recedes into the God King, the more he starts having nightmares, the more those whispers in the back of his mind get louder. He does what he can to ignore them, but sometimes something will set him off.
An argument with Tyreen, a momentary feeling of regret for leaving his home, a pang of loneliness. He often can’t sleep, and he knows if he starts to wonder why, clarity for the horrors he’s done could crush him.
Drugs, sex, bloodlust, he tries anything to take his mind off the intrusive thoughts that grow day by day. That he’s a failure. He’s a freak. He’s a cold blooded murder, but every now and then he’ll wake up in a cold sweat and hate himself so much that he wishes he’d never been born.
The feeling passes very quickly as the God King shifts back into place and swallows it down, but while it’s there it’s horrific. He see’s himself from other people’s eyes for just a moment and god what has he turned into. What has he done. He’s a fucking monster.
The man he had been is so damaged under the mantle of this vicious God he’s wearing as a skin that it’s barely alive anymore, and it’s what begs him to kill it in those fleeting moments where he sees past his own facade, where he just for a second realises how many people he has hurt.
He tore his throat out a couple of years before the start of the game story in a moment of lucidity after being sleep deprived for days on end. Tyreen reached him in time when his implanted vitals tracker each twin keeps for the other alerted her to his condition, but it was close enough that he was bedridden for days after her energy transfer closed the wound.
She had been furious with him and made sure it was was kept hushed, the rest of the clergy believing he was on reprieve. Only the twins know the truth of what happened.
He never takes the collars off anymore now, the scars are still there. Convincing Tyreen that it had had happened during a nightmare when he’d left his prosthetic on by mistake was easy. Convincing himself to try and forget he’d been lucid and how it still feels like the right thing to do, is not.
By the point the story begins, Troy is in a constant state of exhaustion, and knows deep down everything he has been through and done to others was for nothing. Tyreen doesn’t care about him the way he does her. She may never have, or she changed, he doesn’t know anymore.
What he does know, is that he won't ever be a real God, and that the only reason he’s still alive is because he is useful.
Maybe he should never have tried so hard to be useful.
 Phew.
I guess in a nutshell, my Troy’s greatest downfall is the God King persona.
As long as that shit is active, as long as it’s being worshipped, he’s never going to snap into reality. The reality that other people are there, that he’s been hurt so badly as a person, it’s all impossible long as he is being treated as, and believes, he is a God.
The manic moments of clarity he has in the later stages of the COV rule are few and far between, but they eat him alive as he can’t understand why he suddenly feels so terrible, why he’s filled with such consuming remorse.
Peel the God King off the broken man underneath it and you leave him bare, confused, scared. You make him have to deal with reality, with people, with himself. That’s when you get him to show regret, and understand what he’s done, and understand what Ty has done to him.
That’s the redemption.
When he realises the game he was playing was real for billions, and suffers for it. It ends where it ends as my Troy ain’t dyin’ :P I’ll get to my rewrite eventually.  I hope to keep exploring these ideas in the future. Just desperately wish I’d as much to work with for Tyreen as I do Troy. GB YOU HEAR THAT? YOU HEAR THATTTT??

Ever met a celebrity or anybody famous? The most famous person I've met was a former pro boxer, by the name of Ray 'Boom-Boom' Mancini at a charity dinner at the banquet center I worked at 4 years ago. Nicest man you'd ever meet and he even sent me a signed autograph picture in the mail. I'm a Star Trek fan and I'd love to meet the cast of TNG, but autographs and conventions are so expensive. Of course there's the chance you could catch one of them on a bad day and get the brunt of it
If we’re including conventions, then yeah I’ve met several famous people before. I’ve met and gotten autographs and/or selfies from voice actors and screen actors, and I’ve occasionally met some artists too! Outside of that, though, I can’t really say I have. Even my best and most extensive meeting was still at a convention. You could even argue that Mario Marathon was kind of a convention in a sense, albeit a super limited one!
I wasn’t sure if I should include a list or not, so as a compromise I’m going to do so below a cut!
Voice Actors:
Sonny Strait (voice of Krillin) -- Got to spend basically an entire day with him! Unexpectedly encountered him at a convention waaaay way back in the day and he just kind of adopted me and the other handful of fans that were hanging around. He gave us all free DBZ CCG t-shirts, let us sit in the DBZ hummer, and signed anything we put in front of him!
Christopher Sabat (voice of Vegeta) -- I brought him a set of cookies made to look like dragon balls, and brought my favorite Vegeta card that I’d been saving for something like 17 years or so on the off-chance I could ever get it signed. He was so moved and impressed that he gave me two other autographs for free~
Todd Haberkorn (voice of Jaco) -- This was the same convention where I got to meet Chris Sabat, and I also brought him a box of cookies. He was so excited that he dug into them right then and there, and then when signing my card he even wrote “Thanks for the galactic cookies!”
Chuck Huber (voice of Android 17/Hiei) -- I’ve gotten autographs from him a couple of times for different characters. One of the items I got signed was one of the original Hiei action figures back when Yu Yu Hakusho first debuted in the US. He was impressed that I had it at all, let alone that it was in the box. (Amusingly, the only reason I did was because I had one previous to it that was out of the box on display and whose sword had broken. I got a new one intending to replace it, but just never opened it.)
Chris Rager (voice of Mr. Satan) -- SUCH a nice guy! We had a nice little chat and I offered him some dragon ball cookies I’d been handing out that day. He signed my trading card and took a selfie with me! I caught him at a panel where he told some absolutely amazing behind-the-scenes stories that I still tell to other people to this day.
Chris Cason (voice of Tien) -- Not much to say about this encounter, I didn’t get to say much more than a hello and thank you before he had to go. I’d missed the official signing session and just happened to catch him after a panel.
Team Four Star -- I catch these guys every opportunity I can manage, and every time I bring them some DBZ-themed treat. I refer to myself as “Snack Girl” when I come to get autographs, and at my last encounter Lanipator mentioned that I looked familiar when I came to the table, so I guess I’m making an impact! I have several stories concerning these guys, way too many to list here.
Little Kuriboh (YGOA voice of Merik, DBZA voice of Freeza) -- Amusingly I met him the time I was at a convention in my Piccolo costume, and that ended up being a whole conversation by itself. It then immediately turned into a conversation about Fallout because someone had brought him some New Vegas playing cards, lol. He was enamored with the trading card I had brought him to sign, and we had a discussion about a fund raiser he’d hosted to raise money for disaster relief where I’d won one of the auctions he’d held.
Kevin Conroy (voice of Batman) -- I found out very late that he was going to be in town, like maybe a week or two before, and dropped EVERYTHING to be able to meet him. When I was in line for an autograph I was so worked up that I kept getting light headed and having heart palpitations. By the time I actually made it to the table I was so starstruck that I could barely say anything. I’m pretty sure I said “I can’t believe you’re here” (??? wtf past-me) and something about him being so talented. He thanked me and didn’t really say much. I had also paid for a photo with him, and in the photo you can see my hand gripping the side of my leg REALLY tightly because I had a very strong instinct to hug him and I WAS NOT ABOUT TO BE THAT FANGIRL.
Charles Martinet (voice of most of the Mario cast) -- Holy shit, this man is playful! He was an absolute delight to talk to, and even just to watch with other people while I was in line. He was very open to whatever sorts of fan requests each person had and was just so warm and gracious with each person that came up. I mostly just wanted to shake his hand and tell him that Mario games basically set me up for the person I grew up to be today. The thing that amused me the most is that if you had him autograph one of the prints at the table, which had all the Mario characters on it, he’d do the voices of each character while doodling little word balloons for them~
Screen Actors:
John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who/Torchwood) -- This was one of the first times I’d gone to a convention specifically to meet an actor. He was a lot of fun and did his best to be chatty, but his handlers were kind of hurrying people along. He was especially tickled by my name (I guess he doesn’t sign too many autographs made out to “Leda”), and he even signed a second item that we happened to have for free!
Cary Elwes (Wesley in The Princess Bride, among other things) -- This was another one of those moments where the weight of just WHO I was meeting got to me and I completely lost my voice. I think I said something about having grown up watching Princess Bride ever since I was a little kid?? I honestly don’t remember what I said, it’s kind of a blur. All I know is that I was so struck by the moment that I didn’t even remember to say that I also love him in the Saw movies.
Billy Boyd (Pippin in Lord of the Rings) -- Not a lot I can say about this one because it was a very fast-paced, conveyor belt sort of affair. We exchanged greetings and he thanked us very much for coming out to see him, and we all agreed that Pippin is totes the best hobbit.
Robin Lord Taylor (Penguin in Gotham) -- One of my favorite interactions meeting a celebrity, for sure! He was actually really interested in knowing about -me-, which completely threw me off-guard. He wanted to know where I was from and what I did for a living, and when I said I was a manager at Spencer’s he got really excited and squeaked “I LOVE Spencer’s!” While he was signing my doll I explained that Penguin is by far my family’s favorite character in Gotham and that we had a joke where, anytime the show switches back to him, we say “Meanwhile, with the REAL main character...” He got a big kick out of that~
Khary Payton (King Ezekiel in The Walking Dead) -- So I don’t watch a huge amount of Walking Dead, but I watch enough that I wanted to come along when my mom went to go get an autograph from him for my brother. He’s definitely the friendliest celebrity I’ve encountered -- so much so that he wouldn’t stay behind the table! He spent the entire time in FRONT of the table so he could hug every single person that came to see him! It was a nice strong hug, too, and he was just so welcoming and pleasant. I told him that, if I had to choose one of the communities in The Walking Dead, I’d absolutely choose The Kingdom. He threw his hands up to his sides and said dramatically, “You will always have a place in my kingdom!”
Penn & Teller -- This year my mom took me on a surprise trip to Las Vegas, and while we were there we got to see Penn & Teller perform, which has always been a dream of mine! After the show they came out into the lobby and they did autographs and selfies with anyone that wanted one, and I got to meet them each. It was a little disarming hearing Teller talk, and Penn was as funny as ever because he’d loudly comment whenever someone’s phone wasn’t working. During this trip I also had my Boris plushie as my “traveling doll” and asked if they’d take pictures with him as well, which they both obliged. Teller seemed particularly amused by Boris.
James Rolfe (the Angry Video Game Nerd) -- So I actually have kind of a long history with him, which originated with me contacting the show to donate a fairly odd peripheral accessory. I given a green light and provided an address, and since I was going to be mailing him anyway, I basically just got a big box and threw in any video game related stuff that I didn’t want anymore and didn’t feel like putting the effort into selling. It ended up being a HUGE box, so much so that I included an inventory list to make sure he didn’t accidentally throw something away. To my surprise he actually mailed me back an autographed AVGN print thanking me for the donations! I thought that’d be the end of it, but he’s actually since featured that peripheral several times on the show, and even included an Easter egg that I asked for twice! This year I got to meet him at Too Many Games and introduced myself as the one that sent the item in. He mentioned that they had a lot of fun messing with it.
Mario Marathon team -- I’m known as one of the regulars since I’ve been around since the first year, and a couple of years ago I was actually invited to the marathon itself as a player! It’s definitely one of the most amazing experiences of my life, and I only wish I could do it all over again! Everyone was just... wonderful~ I was there for several days so there’s obviously way too many stories to tell, but at least in this case you can always go watch the videos on Twitch.
Artists:
Steven Butler -- This was particularly amusing because I was the one that caught him by surprise. I happened to be making my way through the Artist Alley when I realized he was there, and since no one was at the table at the time I went over to talk to him. We had an awesomely long chat about his work (I was going through a sample book on the table) and his time drawing for the Sonic comics. He tried to bring it up as a talking point, and I told him “I know, I own some of your pages!” which REALLY threw him for a loop! He showed me some art for a new Sonic-style story he’s been working on, and I completely fell in love with a character that was clearly inspired by Sally (and I’m not just assuming, he confirmed as much). I then started talking about @fini-mun and how it’s only a shame he couldn’t meet Deebs too, and was talking about Deebs’ history with art and almost getting recruited to be in the Archie art stable as well and how they now do art streams. He was particularly interested in the streams, and I was like “Oh yeah, that’s actually why they aren’t here now, they have a stream today!” so he gave me a free print to pass along to Deebs as a show of interest and support!
Veronica Vera (from the Not Enough Rings comic) -- This was another chance encounter in Artist Alley. I was just kind of poking around to see everyone’s work, and I realized I recognized the comic she was selling. I commented that I loved that comic, and she said she was selling hardcover copies of the entire series. I love the comic and I wanted to show my support, so I bought a book and she signed the inside cover! Unfortunately Oliver Bareham wasn’t there at the time, so no autograph from him. Maybe one day if I’m incredibly lucky, I suppose.
Rich Koslowski -- This was at one of my very first conventions ever. He was an inker of the Sonic comics at the time, and I was only.... 12, I think? I mostly was just excited to be meeting someone that works on Sonic stuff, and I can’t remember much about the encounter aside from just babbling about liking Sonic. I remember him being very kind.
And unfortunately... Ken Penders --  This was at the same convention I just mentioned with Koslowski. As stated above I was only 12, and I was just excited to meet someone who works on Sonic stuff. I believe I was there because of a post on Archie’s Sonic website. Anyway what strikes me as the most surprising about this encounter is how -normal- it all was, at least as far as I remember it. I’ve heard some horror stories of Penders being horrible to fans at conventions, but at least way back at this time (like 1997 or so), he was passing for a normal human. He didn’t say anything mean to me (that I noticed), and he actually gave me some free Sonic loot, which I can’t imagine him ever doing nowadays. I still have the comic book he signed, and I legit consider burning it on a regular basis.
OKAY this ended up way longer that I thought it would. I think even -I- forgot how many people I’ve met before. If I think of anyone else I’ll add it to the list later!

Never Fade Review
5/5 stars Recommended for people who like: dystopian, psychic powers, assassin organizations, undercover work, found families The setting in this one is a little bleaker since Ruby is with the Children's League for a decent portion of the book, and then she's in a *new* East River which is...not the old one, to say the least. The Children's League that Ruby sees is a different one than Liam sees, and I can't tell if it's because they revamped their training or if the League is just being more subtle about things after Liam broke out. For starters, the moved all the Psi kids' training to LA as a reaction to Liam. The LA location is underground and Ruby describes it as looking like an unfinished construction site. Not spooky at all. Despite it, though, the Psi kids there seem to be pretty comfortable in their own skin, and from those Ruby interacts with, few of them are ruthless, but most are naive about the camps and the outside world. It creates this odd setting where these kids are being trained to go into government buildings and steal information or kill someone or plant a bomb, but they are still largely innocent about the outside world and the way it works, the way the camps work and what they're like. The League isn't the best place, and I don't know how much they actually do to help kids, which makes me as confused as Liam and Chubs when Ruby insists on returning once she gets what she needs. The new!East River is even bleaker. While Clancy may be an arrogant asshole, he did have things set up so that they benefit the kids who were there. The new Slip Kid, a guy named Knox, doesn't do anything to benefit the kids. Punishments include missed meals, being left in the cold, or having your stuff taken. The kids who get sick can't work and those who can't work don't get food or the privilege of being in the heat of the warehouse, so they're tossed outside to live in a large tent for the sick where they basically just waste away. This setting feels like a mix of a camp under a highway bridge and a fight night club. It definitely shows what desperation and a desire to belong, to have enough food, to live without being hunted can get a person to agree to live with. Ruby is super different in this one from how we left her in the last one. She's harder, but she's also calmer and more ruthless. Where in TDM she might panic and do something rash to save the people she cares about, in NF she's learned to assess first and then act, though she's still just as willing to save her people as before, that protection just takes a different form. She's a lot more comfortable around a gun and with using her powers, the latter of which starts to scare her like it did before. Liam is absent until around halfway through the story, but when we do get to see him, he's different too. First off, he's sick to the point of delusion, so that's a pretty stark difference. But, even once he's better he's disoriented by Ruby and can't figure out how to place her. He doesn't have the memories of her, but Chubs trusts her and she knows things she shouldn't and the connection between them is still there, like it has been since the beginning, but she's also with the League, and he automatically doesn't trust that. I think a lot of Liam's character change is due to his disorientation, so once that's sorted out--and I guess even when it's going on, at least with people other than Ruby--he's back to being sweet Liam. Just assume everyone is different a little in this one, Chubs included. Chubs survived getting shot (yay!) and is now sweeping the Eastern Seaboard looking for Ruby and Liam, who he assumes got brought into the League together. He's more reckless than before, which another character points out is likely due to him getting shot and surviving, making him feel invincible...though he's still a total mother hen when it comes to others. The guilt Chubs felt in TDM about Jack is compounded a little in this one due to how Chubs has chosen to disguise himself. Despite the changes, the base of Chubs is still there, he still has witty lines and worries too much and wants his family to stay together even when they're pulling in different directions. We're introduced to some new kids: Vida, Jude, and Nico. Vida is ruthless and a little cruel, but she's a fighter through-and-through and wants to protect the two people who mean everything to her--Jude and Cate. I will say that I didn't like Vida the first time I read the book, but I've warmed to her since and she's one of my favorite characters. Jude is 14, turns 15 in the book, but he acts like a child, which the other characters definitely recognize and point out so it's not just a slip-up on Bracken's part. He's one of the naive ones who assumes everyone will do the Right Thing and be Helpful...so basically a more naive, kid-like version of Liam. He's the character everyone wants to protect in this one, sort of like how Zu was the one everyone in TDM could agree should be protected. We don't get a lot of Nico other than that he's loyal to the people he gives himself to and that he was rescued from testing by Leda Corp. While I still greatly enjoy this book, it's my least favorite of the three 'main books,' meaning I'm not counting the novellas, the after book, or TDL in that count (because In Time would take that title, lol). I think it's because Ruby has to fight so hard to justify herself to Chubs and Liam, and even then the three of them are mostly at odds with one another in different ways throughout the book. I miss it when the Black Betty Gang fought rarely and only over relatively minor things; the stuff they fight over in this book is, by no definition, minor. Vida Story from 2018 Edition 5/5 stars This short focuses around Vida and where she was before she joined the League, so she's 12 in this. Again, I really like Bracken's creation of setting. The US is reeling from IAAN, but it hasn't gone completely bat-shit yet like it has by the time Ruby gets out. For starters, Cate is still a social worker and people are still fostering kids, so you know the panic hasn't completely set in. Vida also mentions that army guys aren't running about and rounding up kids. Of course, that could be because Vida and her sister, Nadia, are living in California, which is established in the books to have broken away from the rest of the US in regards to most things, so Collections there could've just taken longer to set in. Vida's already hardened a little in the short, despite only being 12. Some of it comes from IAAN, some of it comes from only having her 16-year-old sister to take care of her, and the rest comes from her environment. But there are still soft parts of her that we don't get to see in NF. For one, we see her reading and appreciating art. For another, we also see her afraid of her powers and of some of the guys in the apartment complex. I think this story explains a lot about Vida's character and why she acts certain ways. It seems like she got her way of moving through the world from her sister, but the take-no-shit attitude is all hers and her desire to protect her family. I think, tentatively, that we also get to see some of Cate's actual personality as well. I know Ruby thinks that whatever Vida saw from Cate was what Cate wanted her to see, but I'm inclined to say that Vida has seen the real Cate. Cate cares about the kids, cares enough to get the League to rescue Vida and the others even when the League isn't operating with children in it.

[Translation] TsukiPro Special CD - Starry Sky Collection Track 3
Tumblr media
Moving on with the Starry Sky dramas, here's Mamoru and Koki's~! I kinda wish there was one with Ken and Ryo, too LOL Or, did they already have one and I just missed it???
Thank you once again to Deea for the files~! Please don't ask her for them as per her request, thank you ^^
The legend for this drama track focuses on the constellation Cygnus and the star Deneb!
Full disclaimer: My knowledge of stars and constellations is uh... not great and I only translated them as I heard it. I did double-check the facts though and they seem accurate to the legends.  Still, if there’s something wrong with some of the scientific parts (like the light years and stuff) please feel free to tell me ^^
※ Please don’t re-post these translations without permission. Instead of reposting, please just like/reblog instead ^^
Under the cut, enjoy~!
Track 03: [宇宙の音楽 -白鳥座 デネブ-] “The Universe’s Music – from the Constellation of Cygnus – Deneb”
Fujimura Mamoru x Eto Koki
[0:00]
  MAMORU: (humming)
MAMORU: Hmm… No, that’s not it… (continues humming)
MAMORU: Hm?
KOKI: Do you feel like it will make for a good verse, Mamoru?
MAMORU: Ah, Ko-kun!
KOKI: Do you want some? I made some mint tea. I think it will help make you feel refreshed.
MAMORU: Oh~! The mint green color looks very beautiful!
MAMORU: It’s so relaxing to the eye and seems so Growth-ish~
KOKI: I thought so too so I made some.
MAMORU: It’s amazing how Ko-kun’s repertoire of cooking is getting bigger~
KOKI: I’m doing my best so as to not lose since your list of songs continues to grow as well.
MAMORU: Oh, I see~! Though, I’m in the middle of trying to write a new one to add to that list.
KOKI: (chuckles) You’re in the middle of having a change of pace, correct?
KOKI: Mamoru’s looking at the stars for a change of pace right now.
KOKI: When you’re cornered by something, doing a completely different thing can help.
KOKI: I don’ think that you’re wrong.
MAMORU: Ko-kun’s so nice…!
KOKI: (smiles) I’ve always been nice, you know?
KOKI: Do you know a lot about stars, Mamoru?
MAMORU: Ah… I love watching the stars.
MAMORU: But, I only recently got to be familiar with the names of the stars and constellations.
MAMORU: I got to know more of them ever since I started researching them a bit as motifs for new songs.
KOKI: Since Growth has a lot of songs with stars and space as their focus?
MAMORU: Personally, I think it’s a lot more wonderful to imagine something that’s mysterious and unknown to many people compared to singing about something everyone’s already familiar with, no?
MAMORU: It’s easier to think up a theme for it.
KOKI: Ah…
KOKI: I feel like I can understand. The universe is the shortest thing connecting us after all.
KOKI: No matter where we are, if we look up, it’s just there. It’s a grand and distant mystery.
KOKI: Going on a journey in the world’s bridges. It’s a feeling perfect for Growth.
MAMORU: Exactly! It’s completely a “far-off universe” kind of feel.
MAMORU: What is waiting beyond this darkness? What kind of world will spread-out~?!
MAMORU: Just thinking about it is making me excited.
KOKI: I’m pretty sure that someone felt that thrill long ago, too, and made stories about the constellations.
KOKI: I’m not familiar with them but, they (constellations) each have their own stories, don’t they?
MAMORU: They do~ Some stars have multiple legends but—
MAMORU: Alright~ Big Brother Mamoru will choose one and tell you its story~
MAMORU: I kind of want to teach someone something I just learned, too.
KOKI: You’re in the mood now, huh? Well then, let’s hear it.
MAMORU: Alright~ Though, what should I talk about…
MAMORU: Hmm… Dear audience, do you have something in mind?
KOKI: I’m your audience, huh? (chuckles)
KOKI: Let me see… I know about the Summer Triangle so, how about one of the stars there?
MAMORU: Leave it to me!
[03:39]
MAMORU: Alright then~! From the three that make up the Summer Triangle, we have: Vega of Lyra, Altair of Aquila, and Deneb of Cygnus. This will be a story about Cygnus.
KOKI: Please, go ahead.
MAMORU: Sure~ (clears throat)
MAMORU: Cygnus is one of the constellations that make up the Summer Triangle and it sometimes looks like it’s in the shape of a cross. As such, it’s also called the “Northern Cross”.
MAMORU: It’s a constellation that lies on the plane of the Milky Way so, imagining it as a swan taking flight is quite wonderful, isn’t it~?
KOKI: I see… Which part of Cygnus is Deneb?
MAMORU: It’s the star that’s right on the swan’s quill feathers.
MAMORU: In the first place, Deneb means something akin to “tail”.
KOKI: Oh~
MAMORU: By the way, among the three brightest stars that make up the Summer Triangle, Deneb’s the dimmest but, that’s because it’s the one that’s farthest from the Earth.
MAMORU: Vega and Altair are 25 and 17 light years away respectively but, it seems like Deneb is 2 thousand light years away!
KOKI: A light year is the distance that light travels through, isn’t it?
MAMORU: Yep, exactly. It’s about 9.5 trillion kilometers away, Ko-kun!
KOKI: 9.5 kilometers… I can’t even begin to imagine it (chuckles).
MAMORU:  (chuckles) You can’t, right?
MAMORU: Though, I can only imagine a 5-minute walk from the station. (laughs)
KOKI: True. (smiles)
KOKI: Though, even though it’s thousands of kilometers away from the other two, we can see it just as brightly as the others, huh.
KOKI: That’s amazing.
MAMORU: Right? I wonder how bright it really is~?
KOKI: I guess I can’t imagine that as well.
MAMORU: (laughs) Me, too.
MAMORU: Now then, continuing with the swan legend, apparently, it’s a form that Zeus disguised himself in.
MAMORU: Though there are a lot of legends about Zeus, I think the most famous one is of him being a playboy who’s only attracted to someone else’s physical appearance.
KOKI: That’s quite a narrow presentation. (smiles)
MAMORU: Long, long ago, there was a woman named Leda who was the wife of the Spartan King Tyndareus.
MAMORU: Leda was a very beautiful woman and Zeus ended up falling in love with her the moment he saw her.
MAMORU: One day, Leda went with her maids to a spring near their palace and began to bathe.
MAMORU: Zeus who was watching from above was captivated by her beauty that he disguised himself as an equally beautiful swan and flew down to where Leda was.
MAMORU: It’s a body-switching technique that stemmed from peeping, you could say.
KOKI: What an unfortunate expression… But, that’s exactly it, I guess (chuckles).
MAMORU: Leda, who was concerned about the beautiful swan that came, approached it without knowing that it was Zeus in disguise.
MAMORU: As a result, the beautiful queen Leda gave birth to two eggs because of Zeus.
KOKI: Th-that’s quite the story…
MAMORU: She let her guard down in front of a cute animal and let it take advantage of her.
MAMORU: This must mean that the technique of using a cute cat to appeal to your crush has been around since ancient Greek times.
KOKI: Your comparison is kind of amazing, too…
KOKI: Tyndareus must have been so surprised when his wife gave birth to two eggs…
MAMORU: (laughs) It would have been good if he was only surprised. But, the gods in Greek mythology are very free and most of them live at the highest peak.
KOKI: Since it’s a legend, it’s completely understandable that gods surpass what humans can understand, huh?
MAMORU: Ah… That’s quite a convincing explanation~
MAMORU: Oh, continuing with the story, the eggs that Leda gave birth to each bore twins.
KOKI: So… there are two sets of twins?
MAMORU: Yup~ One set of twin boys and one set of twin girls.
MAMORU: The twin boys are named Castor and Pollux and are the stars in the Gemini constellation.
[07:54]
KOKI: You really know a lot about constellations, huh. You’ve surprised me. (smiles)
MAMORU: Fufu~ I want to brag but… I’m not really knowledgeable about all of them.
MAMORU: I only remember what I researched and I do love making up my own constellations.
KOKI: Ah, I do that sometimes, too. It’s when you connect stars into whatever shape you can think of, right?
MAMORU: Exactly! Like a dumpling constellation or a tempura bowl constellation or an edamame constellation and many other stuff~
KOKI: They’re completely all about food, huh? (chuckles)
MAMORU: (laughs) Oh and there’s… sometimes I see music scores, too.
KOKI: Music scores? Like sheet music?
MAMORU: Yeah. The stars look like musical notes. The universe might just be a huge music score, huh~?
KOKI: The universe is the sheet music and the stars are the notes.
KOKI: It’s amazing how you can connect everything to music, Mamoru.
KOKI: The universe is music, huh… It sounds a bit too hopeful that I can’t quite grasp it but, I’m sure that it will make for wonderful music, won’t it?
MAMORU: Definitely!
MAMORU: It’s kind of like the music I aspire for. Even if the score ends, there will still be a continuation.
MAMORU: And then, a new music will be born and it will be so countless that we won’t get tired of it!
MAMORU: Growth’s music is a fragment of that, too… or at least, it would be great if it was.
KOKI/MAMORU: (chuckles)
KOKI: It already is.
KOKI: To us who have accepted your music, each and every song is like a small universe of its own.
KOKI: They could even be like constellations themselves.
KOKI: They have their own world and story. They make me feel excited.
MAMORU: R-really? Do you feel excited about them even now?
KOKI: Yeah, I always am. Even the songs you hesitated on until the last minute.
KOKI: Even then, you always manage to find its light. I think that it’s amazing and I feel like I want to continue chasing after it.
KOKI: That’s why, I think it would be wonderful if a new fragment of music would be born under this starry sky.
MAMORU: Yeah… Yeah, you’re right! Thank you, Ko-kun.
MAMORU: Thanks to you, I feel like I can add another fragment to that music!
KOKI: (smiles) Right now?
MAMORU: Yes! It just came to me right now! It’s here! It’s come down to me~!
MAMORU: I feel like it would make for another great song!
MAMORU: Ko-kun, I shall now head straight for the piano!
KOKI: Go ahead~
KOKI: I’ll bring you another cup of mint tea later.
MAMORU: Ye~s! Alright, I’ll make a song now!
[10:56]
KOKI: Oh my. I’m glad that he’s got his energy back.
KOKI: I’ll have to report this to Ken and Ryo who were worried, too.
  KOKI: The universe’s music, huh…
KOKI: Mamoru? Sometimes, your way of thinking is so hopeful and so grand that it overwhelms me from time to time but, it charms me just as much.
KOKI: Maybe the people who named the constellations felt this way as well.
KOKI: Unable to grasp it by hand, not even being able to imagine it… And yet, it’s admired so.
KOKI: Someday, I hope that I too will be touched by the universe’s music the same way Mamoru is.

Pretty Lil Scorpio
First off I want to congratulate you on graduating. It’s upsetting because i thought I’d always be there for moments like this but everything happens for a reason right? Anyway I had a dream about you last night and I’ve been thinking about it all day. I mean I dream about you a lot I think about you all the time but this one was different from the others. I usually don’t remember the details of my dreams but the universe made sure I remembered this one. We were at my house (my dad’s) and we talked about everything the good times, the bad, the cringing things we did when we were young and the new things to come. I looked in your eyes and i swear to god it felt so real it’s amazing what the brain can do because I swear it felt like we both were actually there. You told me you had to go and for the first time I was ok with it and this is what really stuck with me. We gave each other a hug and I let out a huge sigh of relief and then you got up to go to the bathroom and i remembered there was something else i wanted to tell you and I started looking for you but i couldn’t find you and the next thing you know I woke up in my hotel bed in complete disbelief. Healing is not a linear process and this journey has definitely had its ups and downs but it’s getting better, I’m getting better I’m getting to the point where I’m accepting the fact that we will never get back together and I’m getting to the point where I may not ever see you again. I miss you more than anything and every 11:11 my wish is that maybe i run into you and I get to look you in your eyes one more time but if that never happens then that’s ok I hope your happy, i hope you feel complete i hope you can feel like your true and genuine self because you are such a beautiful person with a beautiful soul and I will love you forever. I sat outside your house last Friday for 2 hours in the rain just looking at your door not knowing wtf to do and now here i am we couldn’t get it right with our time together and of course if the universe allows it i hope we get another chance to get it right but if we don’t and we truly weren’t meant to be then i hope you find the person you were supposed to be with if you haven’t already. My love, to me you will always be my soul mate, my fat mommas, my best friend and the moon of my life. Idk what that dream did to me or what it gave me but I’m hoping it was some form of closure good luck in this world I’m sending all the positive energy I possibly can to you and your future because I know you will do amazing things I’m always going to be here for you, I’m always going to love you, I’m always going to want to start something new and healthy with you and get it right. My number is the same and will always be open for you and you know that. Take Care
Forever Yours,
The Boy
Ps. Season 8 was garbage I can’t believe they made us wait an entire year just to rush it so they can do Star Wars but believe it or not i didn’t mind the last episode I would love to talk about it but maybe one day see ya later Ledae❤️

Always Find Your Way Back Home || Closed
The feeling of weight being lifted off her shoulders didn’t last long. Merely a week after leaving she wanted to go back. Days turned to weeks. Weeks then turned into months and she didn’t plan on being gone that long but here she was. Nearly 3 months since she had left Leda decided to was time to go home. Christmas was her favorite time at the Youni. Rosanna always made the best treats for the Alpha house and missing out on those would be a tragedy. So Leda packed her bags and left her moms for the airport.
She knew she could have called Rosanna to pick her up from the airport but she couldn’t risk anyone seeing her just yet.. so after an hour and a half taxi cab later, Leda was finally home. Snow was finally starting to stick to the ground and most of the trees had lost their leaves. It was beautiful. She gave the man his money for the ride and made her way to the Alpha house.
Leda didn’t rush. She knew most everyone would be home for break or out doing last minute shopping. Hopefully everyone in Alpha was out doing something or atleast in their rooms so she could quietly sneak in. Her ideal plan was to just hide away until the new semester and say she just took it off so no one would question. It was ideal, not likely.
As she swiped her card the door opened quickly, almost hitting her in the face. Joey stopped in the middle of the door frame and just stared at her. It was kind of awkward but Leda figured it would be. “So you’re back?” He asked, not giving her any time to answer, “Great! Because we are drawing names for secret Santa tonight and i know Rosanna will be happy to have you there.” He told her, stepping out of the way to let her inside.
This was perfect! It’s like she wasn’t even gone.. well.. he knew she was but maybe everybody thought she was on vacation. Good! Now she can think of reasons as to why she left and to where she was. They had to be believeable though.. Rosanna was a smart cookie, she’d probably figure it out. “Great! Sure! What time should i be back here? I planned on just staying in my room all night, but I’ll gladly take part.” She said, smiling happily at the boy.
“Good..” Joey said. As his eyes shifted between her and the backpack he spoke up again, “We don’t realy have a time set.. just be down here within the next couple of hours and wait. It’s up to Rosanna how this goes about.” And with that Joey left the Alpha house letting the door slam shut behind him.
Nice. Good. This gives her some time to look around, maybe even take a quick depression nap before making an appearance after months. Taking two steps at a time she finally made it to her room. Nothing had changed.. nobody has even came to check on her. Was this good or bad? She was a little hurt.. did nobody care she was gone? Maybe Rosanna but she’s probably been with Mark the entire time and forgot and Charlie.. well that’s another thing. He definitely didn’t care.
With a sigh, Leda dropped her backpack to the ground and flopped herself down onto her bed. It was a little dusty since no one had been using the room for months and it smelled like stale weed and bad perfume mixed. It was cozy though.. she could definitely use that nap.

Clone Relationships Week - Fan Works Appreciation/Favorite AU
I’ve done a very poor job of keeping up with Clone Relationships Week and I missed Fan Works Appreciation day and now it’s Favorite AU day, so hey, let’s combine them! Here are some very good AUs by very good fans.
The OrphanShock Series by @katsadako -  (Sarah + Helena, Sarah/Rachel, Rachel + Helena) It’s Sarah and Helena and Rachel in the Bioshock universe and it’s amazing. The author pours so much work and detail into making the world come to life on the page, and it’s a real thing of beauty.
monkey tree by @sharkodactyl - (Rachel + Helena) Rachel transfers to a new high school and makes a friend! And it’s Helena!! And also Sarah! But mostly Helena!! Honestly, the character arc here is too good to put into words, it will fill your heart and then break it and then stitch it back together better than before and this metaphor got away from me but READ IT.
I Hate Everything About You by @icantbestill29 - (Sarah/Rachel) Sarah develops a very real and very dangerous crush on Rachel, her college professor. The slow build of their relationship is incredibly done and makes you want to just keep reading and reading until you reach the end and are sad... But! Don’t be sad, there’s more coming!
The Herbs on the windowsill series by @lizzieraindrops - (Veera/Niki) Just one of the sweetest, kindest, softest things I’ve ever read. An AU where the Euro clones survived and Veera and Niki got an apartment together. They cook together and cuddle together and heal together. There’s an eight-paragraph-long hug. It’s good.
electronic surgical words by @scientisms - (Sarah/Rachel, many others) A Radio Free Roscoe AU where you definitely don’t need to know what Radio Free Roscoe is, because I don’t and still think this is incredible. Leda clones in high school start a counter-radio-show to Rachel Duncan’s school-sponsored radio show. Amazing characterization, amazing high school nostalgia (I’m old), and the development of a relationship between the heads of two rival radio shows is gonna be a hell of a thing to watch.
I Can’t See The Stars From The Back Of The Car by SulliedByADream - (Beth + Sarah) AU where Beth finds a down-on-her-luck Sarah and helps her get her life together. And also, bonus! Sarah helps Beth too. The development of their friendship is engaging and emotional and beautiful and I love them both very much.
