I have tried to draw them more than once and I want to tell you a little about their figures in advance so that there are no unnecessary questions.

as we could see in the show or in the comics, Gaz always loves to eat and eats a lot of food, what can we say about pizza which she simply adores — thanks to her love for food, her body already at the age of 13-14 began to acquire more "lush" and "soft" forms and this was to be expected but she watches her figure carefully and doesn't like when she is called "fat" or smth like this (she will bury you alive if you call her like that cuz she is moderately beautiful)

well and about Tak... except for her height nothing has changed — irkens do not have a reproductive system (Zim was an exception due to mutations/atavism as with some defects this happens but very rarely in my AU), and therefore mammary glands TOO, so her figure remains standard: narrow hips, flat chest, bony. she is often confuses with a guy but she doesn't care about it and Tak is glad that nothing in her except her height has changed over time (and she will also kill anyone who utters an offensive word towards Gaz bc she respects and appreciates her very very much).

James and the Giant Peach is still (mostly) for young children

Despite a single pre-metoo joke and it's uncanny-ish artstyle that's a serious make-or-break-you factor on if you like it, James and the Giant Peach is aggressively a movie for young children. I personally like it as I never find it a patronizing sit for little kids, like Don Bluth's movies from the 90s so often were, but that really is what I think alienates people; the intended audience may be a bit too scared of the visuals (NOT like how they are with TNBC, which kids go in expecting to be scary) where the adult audience who is here for the 'creepy stop-motion' feel like the movie is lacking for not being Nightmare or Coraline, which is unfair. It absolutely scared me as a little little kid but upon finally facing it at, like ten or whenever it was on Cartoon Network's movie show, I realized there was nothing to fear. And that, in turn, was exhilarating. It's such good symmetry that the film is about facing your fears and standing up for yourself because that's exactly what my relationship with it was. It's such a comfort film for me. My og Bluey. JatGP, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Ernest and Celestine = perfect comfort after I watch something serious and/or disturbing.

Half my reason for trying to pied-piper everyone else towards it as it's own merit is I think James and the Giant Peach would hit hard for lovers of weirdcore and dreamcore ala Jack Stauber or @samsketchbook's 'Welcome to Our Dimensional Party'.

That "looks unsettling/potentially disturbing but actually cute or gentle" vibe pairs perfectly with dreamcore aesthetic. We're coming up on it's 30 year anniversary I hope to see a genuine resurgence. If I had it my way and I was Dan Olson I'd make an hour-long look at the movie, the original book and Henry Selick's filmography as a surrealist the way Dan made an hour-lookback at Bakshi's Lord of the Rings. But I'm not. Cause I'm not Dan Olson and I can't build up the nerve to either show my face or figure out how to make videos in two years.

But anyway, about the title of this post (content warning: downer nsfl stuff; mentioning of real life child ab*se cases):

James' life with his aunts hits VERY different when you're an adult and you've watched too much true crime.

It's not intentional on the part of Dahl or Henry Selick. Selick had Mariam and Joanna ham up the screen and they clearly loved every minute of it and Dahl I think was just trying to tell an 'authentic' type fairytale story where the main character has to escape their evil family. Point being- Spiker and Sponge are supposed to be 'evil for the sake of evil' villains who could only exist as hammy caricatures in an already weird story. They aren't supposed to be like the parents in Matilda or the Twits who I'd argue are a little more 'realistic' depiction of awful people...except for the fact that legal guardians like Spiker and Sponge DO actually exist.

There's a heavy implication in the film that no one else in their county even knows James lives with Spiker and Sponge (literally the only people around to recognize James' existence are the bugs when they first meet him!). His aunts seem to make James work out of frustration for having to take him in, like he's a burden and they're making him pay for being one by being their slave. They actively don't feed him except for rotting fish and then shame him for not eating it. The Lane Smith picture book implies that James' parents weren't killed by a rhino but rather it's Spiker and Sponge who put that idea in James' head and use it to control him. And all that BEFORE the beatings which you know are happening off screen.

After the horrifying cases of Ruby Franke, Sylvia Likens and the Turpins, the "every child deserves a parent but not every parent deserves children" reality of it all makes you realize that James probably would have died if he lived with his aunts. Considering how they flip out on him in New York- that boy REALLY needed to escape, giant peach or no.

This is absolutely another reason for why JatGP is a comfort movie for grownups. You have this horrific childhood rescued by loving in-human parents who will kill everyone in the room and then themselves if you touch their human boy. It's like Opal but if Claire found a happier family. Of bugs. None of that was intentional, ftr, but it's what sticks out to me.

Hello, I hope you don't mind if I share a weird headcanon of mine 👉👈

I normally see people talking about Kakyoin make drawing about you but what if Jotaro does that too? The reason I have this headcanon because I remember the scene when Jotaro using Star Platinum drawing the fly he saw in the picture, and he draw it so well. It makes me think that maybe Jotaro has talent in art too. Jotaro's style will be realistic style while Kakyoin will be more like cartoon/anime style.

Imagine their sketchbook filling with so many drawing of you 💕 Jotaro will watching you from afar, sketching you with your cute smile, your beautiful eyes, he captured it all. For Kakyoin, I think he will even make up characters (oc) that look like you and him and ship them together lol (this headcanon inspried by my friend, she actually do that with her crush).

This always internally bugged me so I’m very thrilled that someone brought up how well Star Platinum drew that fly. I suppose it’s kind of easy to gloss over for a lot of people compared to Kakyoin’s scene of painting on that canvas. (Then again that fly was kind of important to identify to figure out where Dio was so then again it’s “???” for an explanation)

Anywho, I’d say signs point to Jotaro being able to draw, and I think it’s a hobby he prefers keeping to himself. Like you said of him having a sketchbook, almost no one sees what he draws in it and he doesn’t want anyone else to see it especially if it’s various sketches of you. So more than likely when he does do so, he’s somewhere where he won’t be pestered by school girls, or whatever punk tries to start a fight with him.

I’d also like to think he goes back and lingers on prior stuff, just staring at it for a little while. This applies usually when you’re out of school sick (which he’ll probably stop by later anyway with or without your knowledge). But there’s something comforting about seeing every piece of your visage in his sketchbook. Literally no one else knows about this sketchbook aside from maybe Kakyoin (Holly has her suspicions he takes a sketchbook around but she smiles not pestering her son on his hobbies as she thinks it’s adorable).

For the most part art wise I think Jotaro sticks to traditional art, maybe a dabble of charcoal but he prefers pencils. Maybe watercolor if he ever went beyond, but traditional with pencil/pen is the easiest way for him to pull something out at his leisure. Would he let you see? Maybe eventually when he gets you where he wants you, or if the cat is out of the bag early and you see it and you’re not quite with him yet. Let’s just say seeing that may speed up him taking you.

Kakyoin I could definitely see diving into the oc type of thing, he’d certainly reference an artstyle of a manga you like. (Don’t ask how he figured that out so quickly). Though he definitely loves putting some passion into his artwork and occasionally shamelessly make sultry artwork of you and himself. He loves painting the most as he spreads colors, mixing them into the wondrous hues that is your skin tone. Or splashing watercolors in a notebook, that looks something out of a fairytale. Soft and warm lighting….oops he’s getting a tad bit excited.

He definitely presents pieces that are obviously meant to be stand ins for the two of you. That no one else would ever be wiser too, yeah you might have this odd feeling something’s not quite right, but there’s nothing there you could really prove other than observe just how pretty the composition is. If you compliment it, that just fuels this man’s desire further.

Biggest takeaway here is Jotaro and Kakyoin very blatantly have their own styles whether sticking with black/white/grey, or full on color. Both would be pretty in their own right, and their style choices speak of their personalities without saying a single word.

I just love the idea of Rotxo being immediately head over heels for her, he’s so determined to court her he tries everything in his book to prove himself a worthy partner! Cue heaps of Metkayina courting attempts. 

But poor Kiri has so much obviously on her mind she’s either completely unaware or doesn’t know how to react — maybe we can throw in some angst and say her uncertainty is her insecurity about whether she’s proper Na’vi or not! Maybe she doesn’t think she’ll be able to provide what he wants in a relationship with her, because she knows she’s not ‘normal’ and can do things others can’t 👀 

So she thinks Rotxo has this fantasy of them growing old, all lovey dovey on the reef when she’s already lost hope of ever having a relaxing life after Quaritch came back into the picture. So Rotxo pursuing her makes her sad because she doesn’t think she’ll be able to provide that safe normalcy for him 😭

In reality Rotxo doesn’t want a normal life, he just wants Kiri 🥺

I like to think Metkayina courting is him spending extra time with Tuk, subtly showing her he can take care of her family. Or maybe hunting rare fish to cook for her after she goes through another seizure? Bringing her meals to show he can provide food. Maybe if she eats the food he thinks it’s a sign she’s interested too when in reality she was just hungry and doesn’t understand Metkayina courting rituals nskjsj 

Rotxo totally lives in an all female family I feel this to my core, so he cooks her meals based on what the women in his family enjoy best.

Apparently Tonowari likes Rotxo around Aonung because he’s a good influence bahah, I take that as meaning Rotxo doesn’t seek out conflict. So it’d be interesting if he starts acting out more when Kiri comes into the picture, which is very unlike him, so the whole tribe notices quick.

Imagine Rotxo asking for Neytiri’s approval, only to find out Kiri’s birth mother is actually in a tank in the Omatikaya forest, and so he goes out of his way to meet Grace and speak to her regardless of him being out of his element and in dangerous territory. It’s tradition, so he takes it very seriously. 

I just love the idea that Kiri is just this special spirit whisperer that attracts all these gentle creatures and Rotxo is one of them 😭

Hello! Big fan of your artstyle. In your No Devotion AU, if it is indeed the Lamb God that gave wee Narinder the Red Crown, or their own Red Crown instead, possibly saving him, isn't it a cosmic irony then, that a lamb themselves then took it back and killed Narinder, then possibly rescued him from Purgatory, if they wished to do it?

Also tell us more about the Lamb God please. Or is it Sheep God. Does Purged Narinder have a copy of Aym and Baal by his side to fight you like it the game, or is it just Purged Narinder alone that fights you? What dialogue would you give him, and where would you find him?

Ratsghshsh thank you and I have so so many loose thoughts on purged Narinder and the lamb god, who I’ve been calling The Priestess.

With the comic where Narinder gets her crown, it’s vague but the implication is that Narinder’s mother died leading him in his little kid brain to wish to kill the god of death. The Priestess knows that the new bearer of her crown is on their way and purposefully allows him in. I was going for a time is a flat circle kinda motif with the crown being passed from a lamb to Narinder and back to another lamb. And yes, technically both The Lamb and The Priestess are adult sheep but it’s all about that sacrificial lamb type shit.

I wanna also add that there is significance to the fact that The Priestess has three eyes, before Narinder gets the crown he has two but after three, and The Lamb still has two eyes even after bearing the crown for 300 years and killing Narinder.

All the Purged Narinder and Not-Narinder stuff I wanna hold a bit close to my chest for now. I wanna wrap up the betrayal comic before getting into that storyline fully so I can give it the proper attention. I will say that I do have plans with Aym and Baal which strays from cannon. And saving Narinder is going to be long and it’s going to be gruelling. And even after Narinder is free of purgatory, he will not be okay.

I have been infinitely entertained by the tags of my post where Not-Narinder is gifted to The Lamb. It didn’t even occur to me that the changeling could be mistaken for amnesia and I’m cackling at the sidelines with new ideas.

Random tidbits about The Priestess.

She raised both Shamura and Kallamar until she died. I wanted to solidify Shamura’s role as an eldest sibling as I often find it’s easy to miss-characterize them as a parental figure. I hoped giving the bishops a parental figure would counteract that.

In her lifetime she committed similar sins to Narinder and The Lamb. Gonna tease it a bit but the red crown has a bit of a curse.

The Priestess is albino. I’m not sold completely on any particular breed of sheep for her as of now. Possibly a Hebridean sheep or Norfolk Horn, same as The Lamb.

Any lion behaviour to expect from him?

Once Nari starts getting comfy he will nuzzle the Lamb a lot more, both in greeting but also in an affectionate way. He also roars on occasion!! Mainly on missions or when the Lamb takes him on Crusades and they loose him lol. He’ll groom the Lamb as well, commenting about how dirty they get during crusades and that he could spend his time doing something more productive(The Lamb knows he’s just being difficult. Every time they return Naris waiting to clean them up before they show themselves fully to the cult)

What species of Lamb is yours? How do you depict the Lamb, the way you play them, or your idea for fanart?

The closest I can get to answering the first question is actually a goat! The way I draw my lamb is heavily inspired by the Dreamurr family(specifically Asriel) so really they’re more like a goat with fluffy hair lol. As for how I depict them, well I love me a good codependent relationship turned two assholes learning how to heal.

My lamb sees themselves as the faithful servant to TOWW at first so they don’t speak(unless it’s to Nojular to announce to the others or during sermons), keep their wool short, and focus only on crusades and keeping the cult stable. It’s once they defeat Kallamar that they start opening up. The crown speaking to them gave them a new boost of confidence(and a tad bit of inanity) so they began speaking more, directing the cult, and focusing on their relationship with their followers more then crusading. With the indoctrination of the cults brand new Therapist(No one asked Focalor to do it they just took up the job themselves), the Lamb was able to work through a lot of their issues.

Now with Nari in the cult, they’ve started their ascension into godhood. This takes a big toll on their mental state, causing more murder episodes and mood swings. Nari knows how bad the ascension process can fuck someone up so he’s helping where he can. The Lamb appreciates it a lot.

Will Narinder ever grow out his mane again?

Nari actually likes it short!! The Lamb asks him this same question all the time and Narinder always says he likes it short. Though he does grow out parts just so the Lamb can braid and decorate it.

How does the modern AU of them pan out? Does Narinder get released from his chains?

I have comics and things planned for the Modern AU so stay tuned for those!! I can say that Nari does get released from his chains by the Lamb on accident. Now he has to learn how to live among mortals and the Lamb is marching straight to their Professor to try and learn more about the formerly sealed god.

What are their favourite weapons and curses?

I generally don’t use curses actually!! I prefer things with high speed and high damage so my best answer is that I like Swords!(I despise guns and hammers they so slow for my lambs nimble ass)

Does Narinder have any side effect from being chained?

He has PTSD from the imprisoning battle and gets the phantom feeling of chains on his wrists from time to time. While he likes his alone time he’ll actually cling to the Lamb once he’s spent more time in the cult. He’s terrified of being alone even if he won’t admit it.

Anime vs. Manga?: Both are so charming. It's worth checking both out. I really enjoy the progression of ONE's artstyle throughout the manga, too.

Salted Genres: mentor-apprentice, good sibling rep, respectful towards women (albeit without any taking lead roles), grownass man worthy of being babygirl, well-written characters, GREAT comedy, con artistry (lol)

Major Trigger Warnings: Not really??? Esper dad fights his esper son, but we're already in esper territory. ONE makes it clear that many adult espers are poorly adjusted socially, and the father character fighting his son is quite clearly Not a good guy.

Can I Watch It Around My Parents?: As long as they don't hate Supernatural themes, you could easily watch this around them. Couple of comedic scenes involve smartass guys getting their shit kicked in so bad, they get blasted to the point of their clothes disentigrating, but it's clearly meant for comedic purposes and not sexually. Trust me. He needed to be humbled.

Artstyle: Unique, leaning towards shounen. Heavily respects ONE's style while bringing it to a fuller depth and severely objectifying Reigen Arataka (he's in his late 20s). Not afraid to look raw or "ugly" (which is so refreshing).

Personal Review: Fuck you, this show is practically perfect. I don't have to say anything. You're on tumblr- Reigen is a god here. But seriously, just watch it. It's one of the few animes I wholeheartedly will recommend to anyone. If you can't appreciate it, it's just your loss. People who cry that "all anime has some caveat to it" to excuse shitty tropes? can eat shit. Mob Psycho is better than that AND your shitty harem anime.

Context: I watched this back in 2016 when it originally aired, and it was the fight with Teru (episode 4) that really got me hooked. Back then, ONE was the talk of the sphere for the recent release of One Punch Man S1 (Studio: Madhouse), and being the comedy fan that I am, I knew the humor was right up my alley. Season 1 was so fantastic that I immediately picked up the manga where it left off. All of us that were early fans used to convince people to watch it by saying, "If you liked OPM, this is the creator's piece he really put his heart into the story for!" Even after the manga ended with such a fulfilling ending, I was eager to see it again animated with BONES' gorgeous action animation skills. Some anime can manage being absolutely timeless, and I firmly believe Mob Psycho takes the cake.

Favorite Character: Reigen Arataka. I am not immune to grownass, loser men with hearts of gold (or at least when it counts). If anything, his entire character arc is becoming less of a loser since becoming Mob's role model, and you gotta love it.

Fandom: I never engaged with it, but it's impossible not to see on here. People are pretty wholesome from what I've seen (aside from objectifying Reigen, but he can have it. As a treat). Most takes include making Reigen a father figure (which I disagree on. Mob has a father. He needed a MENTOR. Big difference.) and the expected various shipping takes. The majority of characters are men, so it's mostly mlm. Most of the popular ships are pretty cute, so it's worth checking out if you enjoy shipping! Reigen is also memed to hell and back, and I miss Redraw Reigen days with all my heart. Great memes.
