I think I’m bad at talking to people

I’m laying on the floor right now because I don’t feel like getting up. While Ive been down here, I’ve been thinking that I might be bad at talking to people.

Everyone eventually just stops talking to me. 

I must be boring. I probably am. That or I’m just not good at talking to people. Feels like that makes a bit more sense. I say the wrong thing or my answer isn’t interesting enough. 

I wonder if I stay down here, how long it would take for me can sink into the floor? No particular reason. Just a thought because this carpet sucks but I can’t bring myself to get off the floor. 

Everything just feels too heavy. 

I don’t feel much these days. When I do, its usually bad. Its tiring trying to stay upright and balanced. Sucks because I have to stay balanced or everything breaks. Maybe thats why I can’t get up...I must be tired. 

I’m always tired. It’s fine. I can keep moving. I just need to give myself a second to breath and rest. I should use to being tired. I’m not though. Not use to it, I mean. I’m very tired. 

People talk to me less and less. They pop in for a bit and then find something else to do. I don’t blame them though. I wouldn’t talk to me if I had the choice. I talk to myself a lot though. It kinda feels like its the only person I can talk to but I can feel myself getting bored when I talk to myself. 

I think I’m just gonna go to sleep. I’m tired and I don’t feel like talking. Plus the carpet isn’t too bad. It’s not like I can leave anyway.

I think this is one of my favorite lines from the Wraith route because of (imo) how much the meaning changes depending on if you got there via Spectre or Nightmare. For Spectre, it honestly strikes me as a genuine question. Why are you doing this to her? If you're on the Spectre route, you presumably already know the Narrator can't really be trusted, since you had to reject his reward to get here. What are you hoping to gain from continuing to hurt her? For Nightmare, it honestly just makes me sad. As the Shifting Mound describes her, "She desires only companionship, but the only thing she knows is how to hurt." This line feels like a plea from someone who genuinely doesn't understand why you keep rejecting her. She wants to be with you, but she just can't understand how to do that in a way which doesn't hurt you.

some of us have to put on a fucking brave face and smile and wave at people who literally voted to take away everything we have worked so fucking hard to get. some of us work in places with people who hate us, who tell us to speak english because we're in america, who tell us we have jobs because nowhere else would take us, who can't stand the idea of an overqualified black woman in power. we have to keep our heads down because we have no other choice if we want to keep the job that is keeping a roof over our heads and food on our tables.

i'm sorry to be doomposting but sometimes it's not as easy as just keep moving, keep your head up, live!, when you're surrounded by people who want the opposite for you.

if i failed to protect my kid during the apocalypse and they almost died wandering on their own but got rescued by a team of four competent, battle-experienced adults who cared about them very much and made them feel less scared and useless but refused to let them fight, i think that would be a pretty decent outcome and i'd be pretty okay with it. sure i could dream up a better situation but there's a hell of a lot of worse ones too.
