lmaoooo, everyone knows i write fanfic. i am not embarrassed about it!! if i end up talking to you for more than like, five minutes, then ur gonna learn!! the last random i told was the new bookseller in town—that was a bit of a eh kinda situation tho bc we’d been talking about like, books beforehand, like, kid books and YA and then i launched into my whole theory about adults clinging to YA/trying to make New Adult a thing bc like, they want the finding-yourself-quest vibes that YA has but with like, sex, lmaooo, and then she was telling me about her book that she’s writing (middle aged woman finds a magical companion, quest ensures) and i was like yayay that sounds so fun and then she asked me if i wrote and i was like YEPP self-insert fic baby. 😌 and then she was like oh, and then she was like, for what fandom, and then bc i am a shitstirrer i was like, My Hero Academia 🙂 and then she was like oh. and then she tried to double charge me for the book i was buying LMAOO. that’s actually not funny, bc i had to be like sorry babe you already got me for it, i have the receipt right here. 😔 i think that’s been the first interaction i’ve ever had IRL where someone like, visibly became disinterested as soon as the words “self-insert” happen, but like, i use that term very deliberately whenever i’m talking with another chronically online adult!! it’s a good way of testing the waters etc etc. fanfic is suchhhh a funny topic to talk about IRL tbh, because you either encounter people who like, don’t know what it is, or people who do—and then you get to see how wildly different everyone’s tastes can be. the last time i ended up talking with someone in real life about fic (before this), they were telling me all about the Hazbin Hotel stuff they were reading and i was like ohhh, i know what that is!! and they were like, omg do you read adamsapple too? and i was like nah, but i did see people on twitter whinging about the series being staffed with people who have kinks or w/e? which then devolved into a convo about the local BDSM community that they (the person i was talking to) was apart of and i was like ooooh bc then they were spilling some of the local tea, but anyways my point is that talking about fanfic is fun and i do not shy away from it LOL.

AITA for not believing my friends new boyfriends "backstory"

I 20(F) am very close friends with a girl (20F) who we will call Alex. Alex recently got out of a really bad relationship with someone our age, and jumped very quickly into a new relationship with a man 14 years older than her, who we will call Ben. Alex and Ben are in the same community college class, and have known each other for 2 years as friends.

I have never actually met Ben. I am at a college several hours away and Alex is one of those people who like to keep friends she's made in different parts of her life separate from each other, like school friends all know each other but don't mix with collage friends, who don't mix with work friends etc. She says it's an autism thing but idk. She doesn't do this this romantic partners tho, she introduces them to all her friends and she's keen for me and Ben to meet now.

Recently, Alex has been telling me more about Ben, all the normal relationship stuff you'll tell your friends. He seems to be a lot better than her previous partner, but the bar is in hell, so it's not difficult to be a better partner (or person) than the previous guy. But idk a lot of the stories about his life she's told sound very far fetched? Like not impossible but more likely to happen in a soap opera than real life, you know?

The story that pushed me over the edge into complete scepticism was that apparently Ben had been online dating someone for several years who died unexpectedly, and their mother took over their computer after their death and pretended to be them for over a year until the mother died and lawyers involved in her will contacted Ben, and the mothers plot was revealed.

Now... that might not be impossible, but I'm smelling bullshit. When i have online dated before, we've spoken on voice chats, and on facetime, via Snapchats etc - did none of that happen for over a year? No new photos in over a year? Was this mother faking to all their mutual friends - some of which were IRL apparently- too or were they all in on it? Also, who is this mother who can perfectly copy her child's texting style, so much so that their long term partner didn't see a change? I know my mother and I text very differently, and the evil mother in this story was have been in her late 50s at the time, so I highly doubt that she and her mid-twenties child just so happened to text exactly the same way. Alex says Ben is rly into memes and meme culture too, and I really really doubt that a late 50s mother - grieving mother no less - is just going to instantly understand meme culture to the point where he wouldn't notice that his "partner" was behaving differently. Also, a lawyer is not going to an Internet boyfriend first when dealing with wills. They just arent. The whole thing sounds either fake, extremely exaggerated.

Alex did not take it well when I (gently) tried to point out the weird bits in this story. She got very defensive and claimed I was judging Ben just based on his age and looking for something to be upset about, and that I'm disrespecting his trauma by being sceptical. She said that because I've never met him I'm projecting bad vibes towards him based on my own assumptions. Idk maybe she's right and I'm being unkind AITA?

Examining How I Use The Internet

Prompted by this page I’ve realised I’m doing a lot of mindless scrolling and procrastinating a lot with the internet. Time to fix that. Mari Kondo’ing this shit.

Reddit: I mindlessly scroll and always gravitate to drama subs like AITA, which just depresses the life out of me and drags me into negativity. 

Solution: Block the bad subreddits with stayfree and use it to put a limit on how much time I spend on there, so I can still access useful and informative subreddits but not doomscroll. Stayfree did heehaw but I found a simple extension that blocked the subreddits and then used Ublock to hide popular posts so basically it’s just my specific feed now. Win!

Tumblr: I also mindlessly scroll here, albeit less. Sometimes on instinct I feel the need to put on a persona or post certain things or overly clarify things to appease spectators I’ve crafted in my head or feel a need to perform. Makes using this site stressful.

Solution: Remind myself this tumblr is my digital journal and while I’m open to making friends this is not something I’m doing to get clout. I am here to collect, learn and explore. 

Twitter: I rarely go on it anymore, and I just don’t like it. The only things that were on it that I liked were cute and cozy aesthetic accounts, but even then nah.

Solution: Delete it. Twitter gone woo crab rave

Discord: I use it the most to talk directly to irl and online friends, have a bookclub and get updates on random stuff. Sometimes it feels like a void.

Solution: ?? Need it to talk to friends. Just meditate or smth. Like tumblr, don’t feel the need to perfom or put on a persona. Vibe only.

Youtube: Also started procrastinating by going on there with the intention to watch this One Specific video and then I’m on the 4th Im Skylar White Yo lego video. 

Solution: See if there’s something that can block the yt homepage and just see subscriptions or smth. ABSOLUTE UBLOCK W HOW IS THIS SO EASY AND I NEVER KNEW?!

Emails: I’m scared to even touch my gmails bc of the amount of spam mail I’ve accumulated since I was 8.

Solution: Buckle up and start unsubscribing to junk mail and clearing them out THEN switch from gmail to literally anything. Done techgirl email

Internet In General: I think I use a decent not centralized browser. I use yt adblock like a champ. But I really need to go over security notes, find a vpn, make sure this browser is cool, download that torrent browser thing sometime. 

Solution: Find vpn, get torrent browser thing, use throw away emails or card info.

I also generally feel like I have to put on a performance. Is this down to that one time I was a microceleb in this one niche shitty instagram community? Maybe. Theres a voice at the back of my head like “Will this get notes? Will people laugh at this? Does this fit? Will this slightly put someone off?” and its exhausting because I’m not here to get clout I’m just wanting to chill!! I do however want to make friends and meet like-minded folks, don’t wanna create an echo chamber for myself. Hm...

Solution: Recognise this behaviour, the thoughts. Listen to them, deconstruct them, let them pass. Do this constantly. Do not engage them or let them influence you. (realising this sounds like some spc lmao)

I sometimes skip posts with hardly any upvotes or notes because unconciously Im only paying attention to bigger posts. This means I miss out on tons.

Solution: Use good ol ublock to hide note and upvote elements.

Spotify: Love music. Like the spotify wrapped thing. Hate spotify, it is evil company. I don’t even pay for it thanks to my bestie. But...

Solution: Compile music elsewhere (where ?)

Instagram: I’m not actually active on it, I just still have it bc it has tons of cool anime edits I’ve saved over the years. But I hate zuckergram.

Solution: Export the sick edits and delete zuckergram. I will do this on my phone.

Compared to a year ago I’m much more aware of how I’m using the internet. My phone usage is down to nilch, it’s almost like I never spent 16 hours a day on instagram straight as a kid.

Having a path still ahead to walk down doesn’t negate the mountain I climbed before.

The sites I use most are Reddit, YT, Tumblr, Discord. Thats four I’ve whittled it down to, which is actually an ok number, not too bad. One for solitary reading, one for spooks and funny videos, one for semi solitary blogging, one for communication.

Should come back to this later and re-examine things and not forget to do these things.

I love this question omg that's so interesting! I do have some thoughts about this for some time now. Let's talk about it:)

Interesting enough, different people perceive this differently. Some astrologers perceive the 3rd house and many use it based off horary astrology to interpret certain charts and it makes sense since 3rd house do have power over communication. However, some others believe the internet is in fact ruled by the 10th house or the 11th house, since the 10th house got to do with the public and what we do with our reputation, but the 11th house gives meaning to the 10th house, by dissecting it and opening it up to not only your persona but your friends, your dreams, whats gives us meanings and connections. Its not just about you anymore but expand it wider to us as a whole. It deals with organizations, companions and it expands on the idea of cooperation.

So again, depends on how you interpret the internet, we can use different houses. Do you think its just a place where you considered an "everyday environment"? Then we'll use the 3rd house. Do you consider it a place where it brings people together? Then we use the 10th and the 11th house.

Getting back to your question luv, I think people who enjoy the internet yet may be reserved in public, social settings may have a noticeable chart with clear fixed and cardinal energy. Since I have been noticing this for a while, mutable people can be very sociable and they easily adapt pretty much everywhere and especially if they're Mercury-ruled, depending on the rest of their chart can literally vibe with anyone anywhere. Cardinal energy can become the same yet they're also highkey fixed people in the sense they seek the familiar energy they crave. Meaning they tend to wander but always come to that one place they love. They're like a fine blend of mutable and fixed energy, so if they feel like the public settings aren't their cup of tea, they would prefer friends online who understand them and whom energies they are familiar with. Fixed people are stubborn af haha but we've been knew! So they can maintain both lives pretty well but they also have similar mentality like cardinal people, its just that they're very realistic so they if they acc grow to love the friends they met online, they will initiate to meet them!(cardinal mix with fixed can manifest this too!)

I think people with 12th house placements/9th house placements/3rd house placements and sometimes 6th house placements may particularly love having friends online. They like how effortless it can feel sometime and these mutable houses need acceptance above all else. Once they receive that its very hard for them to let go! Gemini placements and Virgo placements along with Libra placements or Sagittarius placements might love this dynamic a lot!! They tend to have a nice circle of friends and they get to do this through the internet:)

I think Lilith also plays an important part, because once again, expanding on the idea of the 11th house "bringing people together", Lilith dominant people can unconsciously search for a safe space where they feel accepted and understood. They need to be wary of this though since while the Internet is filled with amazing people, there are bad people too. Lilith in the social houses (air houses) and cardinal houses understand this the most. Also I think a damaged Moon or Moon in mutable houses people also tend to enjoy escapism on the internet a lot!! Venus also plays an important factor too, I think Venus in mutable houses can manifest the same energy as Moon, but Venus in mutable houses don't seek for acceptance but rather for company and expansion in my opinions! Amy pauses just long enough to not get an immediate response, and then pushes forward. She has to say whatever the right thing to say is. Not because she needs more friends. She has plenty of friends. Just because she likes Dave, and she's maybe a little intimidated by him, and she doesn't want to make him mad.

"Um. Sorry he’s in love with me. I mean Clyde. I mean, shoot, that sounded wayyy worse out loud.

"I do think you have a shot, actually. I headcanon him as gay. Or at least bi. And you guys would be cute. Tol and smol kinda vibes. Especially if we can get him to wear more pastels, or if you get a growth spurt.

"Is that weird? I’m getting into weird territory. Haha. But, uh, I think the theme you coded is really cool, and I would totally commission you to do mine if you wanted a little money, and I big time ship you and Clyde now.

She's pretty sure none of that was the right thing to say. But it does kinda feel good to have said most of it, and she's not exactly famous for having a good and consistent filter, so it's probably alright.

This may be a pretty sad question but I’ve seen how kindly you answer others:

How do you make friends? Whether irl or online?

That's not a sad question hun, making friends is not easy for a lot of people. It can be difficult for me too at times when I feel out of place in a setting.

Truth is, I'm not too sure what advice to give that you probably haven't heard before so I'll just try and be as honest possible about what I find works.

1. Ya gotta talk to people. It can feel intimidating sometimes but I promise, they're bumbling through this shit just like everyone else. They're a person just like you who doesn't know what's going on and 9/10 no matter how badass they think themselves to be, everyone likes having friends. If they act like ass, drop em and move on to someone else because wasting your energy on that nonsense ain't worth it.

2. Don't worry if you don't click with someone. It happens, not everyone's gonna get along or vibe. It doesn't mean you suck or you're this or that, it doesn't mean they're better than you or don't like you or are judging you. Maybe they're busy, maybe they are awkward and don't know what to say. Maybe ya just plain didn't click. Again, try someone else.

3. Friendship usually forms just from being around or in contact with people. Think about school or work friends. The common denominator? Ya see them mfs everyday 🥴 if you talk to someone regularly, even maybe just a couple times a month/week, the likelihood you'll form a friendship increases

4. Bluntly, people like talking about themselves, their interests, and their opinions on things. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just true. The easiest way to start a dialogue is asking people about themselves. Ask their interests, see if you have shit in common, get a sense of their sense of humor, ask their opinion on and see if y'all have the same hobbies. Compliment stuff you think is cool or good ideas. I hate the new cultural trend that compliments are weird or cringe. Nah, compliments actually fuck when they're genuine. And hell, you could think someone is cool but then talk to them personally only to find out actually you don't even like that person... but you won't know till you try 🤷‍♀️

5. Reciprocate! Talk back. If you find you do have stuff in common, talk about it! Don't monopolize the convo obviously, but give them opportunities and nudges to continue putting their own thoughts out into the convo to keep it going. Don't make them be the only one talking because that gets tiring quick, and it's not fair. If you want someone to like you, they gotta get to know you too.

Really these are just things I find myself doing when I wanna get to know someone, and it sounds easy but can be a little intimidating when you're not used to it. But all you can do is try. And I promise, if you're a genuinely nice person, not rude or overbearing, there will be people out there who will see it and connect with it. Just keep your head up. Be kind to yourself 💕

see im the same with tone indicators. I'm bad at tone, I know this, but I'd never force someone to use them. cuz I use em, but only when I'm like. real nervous. and think the other person or people Won't Get It. like yeah it's great to clarify but for me they're so wrapped up in Fear (for the most part) when I use em that I don't care if someone doesn't use em cuz I don't want others to feel that way, if that makes sense?

also it smacks of policing people and I hate that. let people live they life. of it don't vibe with you don't follow. block, move on. it's the internet people gon be people my dude

oh absolutely i feel you like. i am Not good all the time w tone either. usually in the sense i just... assume people are joking unless i find reason to feel otherwise. n like. i feel that finding tone or intentions online is Hard just. objectively hard for Anyone. because ppl are so reliant on body language its insane. 

im a weirdly good read of character and People irl. but like only in terms of body language. what people say and try to convey to me is where i trip up. so online is. weird. but ive found ways to get at least an Idea of what people mean and looking into context and if im just Unsure i’ll just... walk away? 

the use of tone indicators is like. its good in theory And in use too. ofc ppl will always misinterpret words or not quite ‘get’ it n thats fine. if theres an easier way for that fuck yes go right on ahead. 

but i like. more and more that i see em used on twitter i feel tone indicators are just...... not used as they should be. im talkin i see tweets of someone just saying words bout something Good that happened to em and the end it has ‘pos/ gen/’ or something. like its not necessary for ppl to Say that them getting good grades or something small and personal is Positive and Genuine on the end of it cuz................................. theres connotations. 

same with like. twitter threads i see titled things like ‘heres a thread of donation goals to support!’ with ‘/srs’ on it. like YES i can see youre serious? if you werent id kick your ass. 

like yea i seen em used Good. asking questions with ‘/nm’ at the end so ppl dont think theyre Mad makes sense. or if they are asking for clarification and have ‘/gen’. like it makes sense. because its when youre interacting with someone and therefore Want and Need your intentions to get across. but not Everything needs them. the idea that neurodivergent Desperately need tone indicators on Everything from serious information about real world problems to yelling into the void posts is........... like i dont like that ksjglkshghg

“You’ve literally saved my damn life,” Ethan exclaimed over the phone, always dramatic. 

You almost rolled your eyes, but remained focused on the road ahead of you. If you had a dollar for everytime you saved your best friends ass you’d be a millionaire. Ethan is the most forgetful person you know, the amount of times you’ve reminded him of something is super high. 

“Mark said I really needed goggles but-” 

“You couldn’t be bothered?” You finished for him and his stupid giggle rang through the speakers of your car, letting you know you were right. 

You couldn’t help but chuckle along with him, “Wanna hang out whilst we shoot? Can probably grab some foods afterwards if you want?” 

“Yeah, that sounds chill.” You can hear people talking in the background, “I’m like five minutes from Marks, I hope anyway, so I’ll see you in a minute.”

After hanging up you continue driving to Marks’. You had never met Ethan’s other friends, mostly due to time restrictions on your life- you had different schedules and that made it difficult to see Ethan, let alone meet his friends. 

You have, however, heard a lot about Mark. Ethan was a fan who got lucky to be noticed, due to that little ‘stunt’ it got you to meet Ethan at convention. You have played games online together on his channel, he’s shown up in vlogs on your channel. In fact, a lot of people love your friendship with Ethan. 

Driving round the corner you see Ethan standing on the sidewalk, he gives an energetic wave to your car. You park in front of him and get out, throwing the goggles at his head but he quickly catches them with a grin. 

“Why do you need goggles?” You asked and then frown at his attire, “why are you dressed like a gay lumberjack?” He laughs loudly at your question and puts the goggles on. 

“We’re making Chica a doggo house,” he informs you like it’s the most obvious thing in the world, you just nod and chuckle following him towards a back gate. 

Ethan pushes the gate open and instantly you’re met with Spencer, his dog. He bounds up to Ethan, a fluffy toy in his mouth and tilts his head at you- you’ve met Spencer before, he was a little timid of you and still is apparently. 

You watch as Ethan struggles to strap his tool belt around his waist, giggling when you laugh at struggle. He pulls on some gloves and pops the safety goggles on his head, gives you a thumbs up and starts to pet Spencer. It’s five minutes of aimless chatter when Mark finally appears. 

A part of you was worried about meeting Mark, a big YouTuber and also one of Ethan’s closest friends. It’s always very daunting meeting new people, but when they’re close to your friend it’s more difficult. You tried to play it off you were chill, hands in jean pockets and making goofy faces at Spencer. 

“Oh,” Ethan grabbed your attention, “Mark that’s Y/N, he’s a friend of mine that grabbed our goggles.” 

You gave an awkward wave as Mark waved and made steps towards you, extending a hand to shake that you quickly pulled yours out to accept. 

“Great to meet you.” Mark smiles and you nod awkwardly, “Ethan talks about you sometimes.” 

“Only sometimes?” Mark laughs and shrugs, “I don’t pay attention to him either, he’s such a rambler.” 

Ethan tuts loudly and shakes his head, “No becoming besties.” He shakes a finger at you both, obviously joking but you roll your eyes at him. 

You stand behind Amy as she films, trying not to laugh loudly when Ethan fucks up- which is a lot. Not that you can blame him, you’ve never done any labour work, not to Mark’s extent either. Woodshop was a struggle in school, you just did not enjoy yourself. 

Once filming had finished you stuck around till Ethan was ready to get food. 

“Mark, did you wanna tag along?” 

Mark shakes his head, “Nah, you and your friend can hang out. I’ll make a start on editing another video,” Ethan nods, but doesn’t seem convinced. 

“I don’t mind if you wanna tag along?” You shrug and smile. 

Mark huffs dramatically, “Fine. You twisted my arm,” Ethan rolls his eyes and already walks outside as Mark goes to grab a jacket, so you follow Ethan. 

“I’m glad he’s coming along, I really wanted you guys to hang out,” You frown slightly and look at Ethan, “you two will get along great, trust me. I just knew if me and Mika tried to set you both up you’d be totally against it.” 

You wanted to laugh. Mark? Be interested in anything BUT friendship with you? Ethan could sense your amusement. You shake your head, huffing a small laugh at your friend. 

“I appreciate that, but I don’t think I’m his type,” before Ethan can respond Mark locks his front door. 

The three of you begin down the street towards the closest restaurant. The walk is filled with chatter, mostly you asking about the Unus Annus videos, the schedule and planning they’ve made. 

“Any ideas for us?” Mark asked genuinely, you raised an eyebrow, “you’re like a daily vlogger. Right? So you’ve constantly got to be entertaining to an extent.” 

You had a thought as Ethan opened the door to a Wendy’s, the intention of grabbing food and going back to Mark’s to eat it and chill. 

“I guess, just do stuff that entertains you,” You shrug and follow slowly behind Ethan with Mark, “don’t force yourself to do stuff because it shows. I always try to find activities that I know I’ll enjoy or have a laugh watching back, like Ethan teaching me gymnastics- I was terrible, but it was so stupidly funny.” 

Mark laughs and nods, “Yeah, I saw that video,” it’s an offhand comment. 

But that comment has you stumbling, you just nod and look up capturing Ethan’s prideful smirk. You give a glare back, looking back at Mark who is still talking to you and smiling in your direction… perhaps there is merit to Ethan’s words after all.

After we broke up, BECAUSE i didnt love them, i asked myself why i constantly felt this way. Why i never had crushes as a kid. Or on celebrities. One thing led to another, and boom!
