other than that like it might be beat up a lil maybe a missing fan if ur looking for desktop
if ur looking for laptop then the cheapest is around $100-$200 from target or Walmart, while Best Buy sells them at $1000 its Awful
craigslist or Facebook marketplace will have a $50 laptop that Might work its a 50/50
again I dont sell computers im just guessing on a whim based on what ive seen from videos and my own personal experience of computers and what companies sell them for (for even cheaper for a weird off-brand computer bc weird brands cost less)
i looked up gaming computer on best buy and saw $2000 and nearly killed myself 😭 i just want to play minecraft with friends 🫶

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day. Welcome to Throwback Thursday!
On this page, ‘Throwback Thursday’ is about memories. So, what do you remember? If I was to say the word SHOP, what immediately comes to mind?
For me, my big shopping moment came on our first trip to DisneyWorld in Orlando, Florida. Paulette was still alive, both girls had their laptops with them, and one of them (can’t remember which) need a laptop cable to connect something to something. Okay, cool. A laptop cable. $3.00. $4.00, at the most. We were told to go to the local Walmart. We’d never been to a Walmart before. Now, if you’ve never seen one of these shops, it looks like a huge supermarket but it contains enough stock to fill every floor of a department store. Man, you can buy everything in there! From penny sweets all the way up to real live guns and ammunition! Well, needless to say, both girls went completely mental! Their eyes lit up like a Christmas tree and they began picking things up. Yes, the shop is full of expensive things (TVs, washing machines, double beds etc.) but it’s also full of 99c and $1.99 items. One sister would say, “Ooh, look at this!” and the other would say, “Get one for me!” Once they had finished, they BOTH had a trolley full of very non-essential things. One laptop cable would have cost them $4.00 at the most, they ended-up spending over $400! From that moment on, if I saw either of them getting carried away, I would say, “Are we having a Walmart moment, dear?” (And we won’t mention Ikea, because even I get carried away in there!)
So, on this Throwback Thursday, what kind of memories does the word SHOP conjure up for you?
Front page of last night’s Evening Standard: “SURGE IN LONDON’S BOOMERANG KIDS.” What’s a ‘boomerang kid’? More than one in four London families have at least one adult child in their home. Boomerang kids are children that leave and come home! Okay, lots to unpick from this story. Firstly, London is one of the most expensive cities in the world. In order to buy even a small house, a young couple need two good incomes and a big deposit. The Trouble and I bought our first house more than 30 years ago. Nice family house. No problem. London house prices have gone through the roof. Some call it ‘gentrification’, I call it supply and demand. People snapped up those big houses in unfashionable areas like Harlesden, Brixton and Hackney because they were CHEAP! Now, nowhere is unfashionable or cheap. Two young people need to be on £40k to afford a shoe box. Of course, our clueless government could intervene and reduce some of the HORRENDOUS ‘costs’ involved in buying a house, but why be helpful when you can do fuck-all? Secondly, do I mind that my 33-year-old son is living with me? Are you crazy? I worship the ground he walks on. He was my best man and he still is. If I had a big house, I would have my daughter, my nieces and all my grandkids living with me! And my mum too! “What? Like The Waltons, Lindsay?” Yes, just like The Waltons! Boomerang? More like bliss! I absolutely LOVE having my boomerang kid in here. My kids and grandkids are the bestest!
Have a throbbing and thrusting Thursday (with hopefully a few thrills through your thoroughfare?) I love you all.

On January 17th, 2023, my dearly loved cheap asus laptop reached the end of its life 💔
I remember my parents making the trip to the US border to get it at Walmart. My dad got it on sale for $200 back in 2015, when I was 17. I made and kept a lot of memories on that thing.
But alas, the motherboard was fried to a crisp, and replacing that would’ve cost more than what my dad paid for.
So I decided to just buy a new one and it arrived today and it’s great 👍

Perceptions of Wealth with Max Caulfield in Life is Strange
One thing I’ve noticed repeatedly in Life is Strange fanfics (and in occasional commentaries elsewhere) is how people assume Max Caulfield comes from a wealthy family. And while I’ve talked about this in the past, it’s probably about time to mention yet again that Max is in fact from a poor family, and that her parents either live in an apartment complex or in her grandfather’s house.
Tumblr media
It’s easy to claim otherwise, especially when you compare Max to Chloe, but when you look a little deeper, the signs are clear that not only is Max poor, but she may in fact be as poor as Chloe. We can start by looking at Max’s clothes. Let’s start by looking at Max’s journal entries on clothes:
My mom cried, and my dad laughed. They're so weird. But they're happy and this means extra financial support because they don't have to pay anything to Blackwell. This means new clothes and if I can work it, a new laptop.
Max’s journal entry for July 10th already lays the groundwork here. She believes that seeing her family doesn’t have to pay for tuition, she can get new clothes and maybe even a new laptop. And to be honest, I actually bought into this... until just now when I saw this August 25th entry as well:
That made me want to cry like a little girl. And never leave Seattle. So instead of packing, I feel like burning all my clothes, then just raiding a thrift store to build up a new Max wardrobe over my junior year. Not that I even have an old Max wardrobe.
First, do note that Max talked about “raiding a thrift store” to build up a wardrobe. Her comment here is so matter-of-fact that the point Max was thinking of going to a thrift store for her clothes slipped past my radar... but as a middle-class woman, I do have to admit that it wasn’t until finances got rather tight that I started buying at thrift stores myself. Given that clothes aren’t tremendously expensive at Walmart and the like (especially if you hit sales) that’s perhaps not surprising. But there are no back-to-school sales for Max mentioned or the like.
Tumblr media
In fact, we see no signs that Max got a new wardrobe (and admittedly she doesn’t have a lot of outfits, even accounting for keeping jeans in the bureau). Her laptop also is a fairly small one and may in fact be her old laptop. I cannot recall anything Max says or does that genuinely states that anything Max brings with her is new. (This also is true for alt-Max, seeing alt-Max’s journal states on September 14th “Yes, I'm older and thanks to Vic and Nathan I'm now a bit more fashionable too.” In other words, the nice clothing alt-Max wore were gifts from Victoria and Nathan.)
Max even comments on this when perusing Victoria’s clothes. She comes across some socks that “cost more than my entire wardrobe” and given a nice pair of thigh-high silk stockings can cost $75 or more, this might not have been hyperbole. Given that if you’re very lucky on sales you could probably snag skinny jeans for $8 new, and designer t-shirts for close to that (and let’s not go into the hoodies)... and it becomes most likely Max’s wardrobe, with (as Chloe puts it) “chlorine brand [T-shirts] and generic jeans” is cheap used clothing.
Hell, even Chloe’s clothing is in better shape. Despite the fact Chloe’s “poorer” than Max, her clothes look much less shabby and worn. Her ripped jeans look designer. Her shirts are likewise in good shape, with any “damage” being strategic and done for looks. Admittedly, Chloe may prefer certain outfits over others, and thus the lack of wear is Chloe not wearing most of her outfits all the time... but if you put Max and Chloe side-by-side (without Max’s camera evident) and ask which girl is from a wealthier family... and people would probably think Chloe is.
Tumblr media
This also helps explain why Max never visited her best friend even in the summer despite living six hours away. If Max’s parents lived paycheck to paycheck then the cost of fueling up a car to drive Max to Arcadia Bay would be painful. (I say this as someone who once had to put her last two dollars in her car so to have just enough gas to last a week, back when that would buy two gallons of gas.) Max didn’t fall out of touch because of stressing out over William or being a bad friend. Max probably didn’t have a cell phone for the first year she lived in Seattle.
Again. Max and her parents moved to Seattle in the middle of the Great Recession. Yes, that was 11 years back but a lot of people lost their homes. Some of those who become financially destitute never recovered, even today. Others were forced to move in with parents. So if Max is living in a house, it belongs to her grandfather. She probably lives in a two-bedroom apartment and one that’s not even in a good part of Seattle. (She most definitely never rubbed elbows with Victoria in Seattle and never met Victoria prior to Blackwell.)
Speaking of Victoria, this gives another reason for Victoria’s harassment of Max and that is classism. Victoria acts like the typical snobby rich girl who sneers at those who struggle financially. Add in that Max has actual talent despite her lack of wealth, and she becomes a prime target for Victoria (along with Kate for her religious upbringing and lack of “shame” over her religiosity).
There’s another aspect of this “economic value” with Max that you might not expect, and that’s behavior. When you’re poor, you tend to become invisible to people wealthier than you. In return, some poor people will try and avoid standing out and drawing attention to them. Max has this in spades. She is a “shy cliched geek” who hides behind a lens rather than interact with a world that judges based on appearances. Well, Max appears as shabby and without value.
Tumblr media
She is treated as such by various people as well. And trust me, if Max dressed like Victoria or Juliet, she would not be treated as dismissively. Appearance and behavior are reflections of each other, and we again see this with alt-Max with her nice clothes and more assertive personality, compared to the original Max who feels out of place.
Amusingly enough, as she starts wearing Rachel and Chloe’s clothing she increasingly becomes assertive and willing to take a stand. A good part of this lies with Chloe’s confidence with her, but we the players get to see this as well with Max’s clothes changing and becoming more vibrant.
So, why do people think Max is financially comfortable? I suspect it’s primarily because Max uses an instant camera. I once calculated out the financial value of the Caulfield Photo Wall, and came to over $100. Admittedly, that may have been all of Max’s photos (outside of ones that Chloe or other people had claimed over the years)... but when you also account for however many photos get rejected for not being good enough (and Max rips up several photographs in Life is Strange) and you’re left with the possibility Max has taken probably a thousand dollars’ worth of pictures.
Tumblr media
That said? This doesn’t mean Max has spent a thousand dollars on film. Don’t forget, Max starts out with a battered camera that despite the design being extremely sturdy falls apart when it is knocked off a desk. Polaroid Instant Cameras are much sturdier than that, so the only way that camera fell apart that easily is if it had been broken in the past (which would explain why Max knows how to repair the camera). And with Max’s own journal, we know that Max is perfectly willing to buy and utilize previously-owned items.
In all likelihood, Max lucked across an estate sale or yard sale where someone was getting rid of an old camera they didn’t know the value of and all the film with it and Max walked away with $500+ of film and camera for $10 or so. If she bought more film via eBay and was lucky? She could very well be getting more film for only a couple dollars per cartridge of eight shots. It is also noteworthy to state Max doesn’t have a backup camera. She doesn’t have a digital camera on the side for most of her shots. She uses her phone for some pictures but mostly it’s that old beast of a camera that barely is holding together.
There’s another reason why a lot of people just assume Max is from a nice middle-class family and that’s because many gamers are from that setting. Who wants to think of Max as a poor girl who is only attending Blackwell because of a art grant? Especially when you add in shabby clothes that highlight Max’s shy and withdrawn personality... you end up with someone that people can have difficulty connecting with. So it’s understandable people just assume the best for Max. After all, they are Max in the game, and who wants to be poor?

in terms of design advice, any ideas for a broke college student apartment room? 💕💕
college is a weird time because you are kind of a grown up but also definitely not! and your interests and tastes will change so rapidly in the next few years. so honestly it’s a great time to experiment and be creative. this advice all depends on your particular space, but in any small space everything that can be double duty, should be double duty (night stand is also a tv tray/laptop tray, art is also bulletin board or jewelry holder), the more uses you can get out of something, the better! going vertical on the walls where you can get away with it is amazing. here are a few easy and cheap ways to upgrade and some basic design principles:
take this design quiz to find out your style (plug in a fake email) and then google or pinterest away. you’ll see repeat themes (for ex. major bohemian trend is macrame, which easily DIYable, or MCM is all about legs and clean profiles). maybe that would be fun post - to highlight different styles and trends. but here are some upgrades that translate to any design style for cheap:
PLANTS
don’t go to a nursery and drop a hundred dollars you don’t have. a plant or two or three you really love will change the vibe of the whole space, and give you something to take care of, which is ofc good for your mental health. tips for getting plants and planters on the cheap!
think of a relative or friend who already has houseplants and ask for free ones next time they’re splitting. i literally did my entire garden this way in my first place.
look on like FB marketplace or whatever your swap site is because people are often selling plants or cuttings for a discount.
i have literally split the cost of a plant with a friend and then split it in half, like a baby before Solomon
pothos plants of any kind are easy to take care of and can split into smaller plants pretty regularly.
succulents are usually a few dollars at the store and everyone loves them! start with one simple succulent.
herbs! if you get herb garden seeds or plants you literally make what you eat!
if you have pets, make sure they are pet friendly.
i do not spend a lot of $$ on planters! i use terra cotta because 1. they’re cheap as hell and 2. cute! some of my favorite planters are terra cotta pots kristina painted for me! you can also thrift pots, which i would encourage, or reuse food containers by putting small holes in the bottom.
create hanging plants by making yarn macrame holders! youtube is your friend on this! you can get a ceiling hook for like $3 if it’s a solid ceiling (drywall) and super easy to patch up when it’s time to leave.
ART
function + form. something organic that you can change out inspiration or art, like a cork or inspiration board (look on like a varage sale or in a thrift store for this).  you can get four12x12 cork boards from target for $7 and create something like this from two of them, which is in and of itself a piece of art (and you can take it down w/out damaging walls)
Tumblr media
other cheap things i have done for art:
calendar or magazine pages in thrifted frames  (my favorite cheap tricks is to get matte black or white craft paint for $1.25 from wm or target and paint a bunch of odd frames to unify them)
a picture ledge like this from ikea is your best friend because you can interchange the art to be whatever you want!
embroidery hoop fabric bulletin boards
seriously, posters are cool. get a cheap poster online and hang it with washi tape. it’s not precious. if you want something more grown up, try to thrift a frame for it for cheap. if you don’t like the color of the frame, paint it! if you can’t hang something heavy like this on the wall, use command velcro strips OR set it on top of a dresser or bookcase and lean it against the wall.
i love tassels and buntings. just google either of those and you’ll get thousands of cheap ideas. in my last bedroom i just had a bunting i cut and made over my bed and it acted like a bedframe and i loved it.
just free prints from the internet hung up with little clips like this ($2 from target) or bulky push pins – those holes are so easy to patch!
when my kids were little until two weeks ago i had an entire wall covered with their artwork. i’m saying maybe go to the thrift store, get some ugly canvases with your friends, and have a painting party. everyone brings a $4 thing of acrylic paint and a brush and have a party. good memories + new art for everyone. swap at the end!
pictures! actually print out those pictures and tape them to the wall with washi tape. you can also do something like this with push pins for as big or small as you want to make it (i have this in my living room
Tumblr media
here’s a proper primer on the 7 elements of design, but you can skip that and go here if you want!
BALANCE
white space and focal points. in the same way that you need to break up one massive wall of text into digestible paragraphs, you also need to break up the focus in your room. a FOCAL POINT is a statement area in your room (i.e. the window, over your bed, your desk) that your eye is drawn to, and where you want your eye to be drawn to. ideally rooms should have ONE focal point (that’s like the adverb room for writing) but in a dorm apartment, that isn’t practical because it HAS to be multifunction. the important takeaway is that white space on your walls is okay, and important. it gives you a soft space to land, visually, which is important in making you feel more relaxed and even productive.
groupings – grouping like with like makes great sense organizationally AND design wise. a collection of postcards will look amazing on the wall together rather than spread around the room.
LAYERS
adding layers can make a space feel luxurious – curtains, rugs, extra throw pillows or an extra blanket on your bed or chair. plants are great for this, but fabrics and baskets can add another layer. these can be pricey so i would a. raid your mom’s house if that’s an option and ask if she needs ‘x’ rug or curtains anymore. you can also thrift curtains for cheapppp or even look for clearance fabric – once you wash the curtains they really are safe to use. clearance frabric can be hemmed without being sewn and hung with curtain rings if you need to. and $5 tension rods can work as a curtain rod inside a window frame if needed. i could do a whole post on this but a cheap rug next to your bed and something soft on a window can do wonders!  dude i have also bought cheap cotton weave cloth from walmart and used rit dye to make turqoise curtains and i loved for years. see also: RIT DYE
so decorative pillows are expensive as HELL but regular, cheap pillows are like $4. i get cheap fabric or thrift fabric and sew my own, which you could do by hand, really, and use the pillow stuffing to make it. ikea also sells great cheap pillow covers!
COLOR
gosh there are no hard and fast rule here but here is a great primer series on color theory for design that you can translate to your room
simplifying a color palette will feel more calming to you, and so will using cool colors like blues and greens. but again, no hard and fast rules. repeat a color or element (shape, pattern) throughout a room 3x (ex. i have a blue rug and that same blueish tone is in a chair and also on a bookshelf. they don’t have to be the same blue, just color family, and it makes it all seem more intentional)
HOW TO DO IT CHEAPLY
buy secondhand. there are entire thrift makeover and upcycle youtube channels that are amazing! same for diy blogs.
reuse and repurpose what you have. i turned a dvd player box into a toy oven for my kids and they used it as a play kitchen for four years. my bookshelf that stores our games in my living room was $12 from salvation army - i just painted it and added casters for $15. my dresser was a thrift from the REstore, a habitat for humanity store. my end tables are actually butcher block pieces that were in my dad’s factory for forty years. i love bringing old things back to a different life. and you don’t always need a ton of tools to do it.
barter and trade. i traded a one of my kid’s dressers for the hutch that holds our toiletries outside of our upstairs bathrooms.
sell and repurchase something that works for you. i sold my old bookshelves on fb marketplace and bought another that actually works better. this isn’t applicable to everyone!
make muffins for someone in exchange for their sewing skills or knowledge. i’m teaching my friend to sew right now! libraries often have classes and such to learn new skills.
OK so i have rambled enough. i could ramble more. i hope this gets you started and if you have more specific or follow up questions, on this or organization side of things, let me know! remember these are all just guidelines and the most important thing is having a space you love, that makes you feel comfortable and that you’re proud of and happy in. comparing yourself to others isn’t always the best and you can make it a space you love no matter where you are.

Have you ever sold anything online either on Craigslist, eBay, Amazon, etc.? If not, what is your website of choice like any of the above for buying things? No, I’ve never sold anything. I like shopping on Amazon, Etsy, and Ebay as far as those kinds of websites go. If the opportunity arose, would you ever go to a nude beach? Do you think you’d be comfortable enough, being naked among others like that? Absolutely not. I’m not comfortable naked, and I most definitely wouldn’t be naked in public. I’m waaaaaay too self-conscious. I don’t even wear bikinis or any kind of swimsuit. I also have no interest in seeing other people naked. You do you, boo, but it’s not my thing.  What was the last book you read? What about the book drew you to want to read it (plot, title, cover…)? Did you end up liking it? I recently finished a trilogy (The Jack Ryder Mystery Series). Well, what I thought was a trilogy but I discovered there’s actually 3 more. I’m about to start the 4th. I read a few other books by the author and enjoyed them and the description of the first book caught my interest. I was hooked after the first one and had to keep going to see what happened. Have you ever considered keeping a dream journal? If you have one, have you ever looked back on it at all of the odd/interesting dreams you used to have? I thought about it before, but I’ve never done it. I very rarely remember my dreams. I generally forget them soon after I wake up or just remember random bits of it. Do you think regifting is cheap, or is it okay? Have you ever regifted before? I mean, I’ve been given gifts that weren’t really my thing, but I knew someone else would really enjoy them so I gave it to them. I’ll tell them, though. I’ll be like, “Hey, so I got this but I already have it/it’s not really my thing, personally, but I know you like them so I thought you might be interested” or something like that.
How often do you wash your hair? What do you think when you hear of some people not washing their hair for weeks at a time? Is it healthier, as they claim? I wash my hair 3-4 times a week. Weeks would be too long, but I think a few times a week is fine. I also dye my hair, so it’s best not to wash it too often.  Do you think President Obama should stay in office, or is it time for a new president? It’s time for our current president to be out of office. In general, do you like/get along with your mother’s or your father’s side of the family more? I get along well with both sides. Have you ever seen an animal give birth? Have you ever had a pet give birth before? Not in person, no. What do your plans usually consist of on Christmas morning? Are they the same this year? We get up early and sit in the living room while my brother passes out the presents and then when they’ve all been passed out we start opening them. We like showing each other what we got as we go. When we’re done, we mess around with some of the stuff for awhile. Christmastime this year is going to be weird given how this year has been. :( Do you like iPads/tablets or laptops more? E-readers or books? Laptops. I do a lot of my reading on the Kindle app on my phone, honestly. I have access to tons of books and it’s just really convenient. If you don’t get much snow where you live, do you wish you did get more snow? If you do get snow where you live, do you get a lot? Do you like snow? It doesn’t snow here at all, but I wish it did. If men could get pregnant too, would abortion still be as big an issue as it is? Yes. It’s still abortion and people have strong opinions about it.  What is something you want to try to accomplish within the next year? I don’t know. Have you ever had to “come out” to your parents about anything (sexual orientation, change in religion, etc.)? How did it go? No. Do you ever get drunk by yourself? No. I don’t drink. Has there ever been a time where you’ve forgotten something extremely important? Yeah. What’s the most unusual kind of pizza you’ve ever tried? Nothing unusual. If you were given the chance to decorate an entire house the way you wanted, with no limit to cost, how would you decorate it? I don’t have the creativity for that. Like, I’d have some ideas and certain things I’d definitely want to have, but I wouldn’t know how to go about decorating an entire house.  If you could have any kind of lava lamp, what kind would you have? Nah. What movie do you know by heart? There’s several. Has there ever been a time where you thought you were going to be great friends with someone, but it just never happened? Yes. What’s one of your favorite things to touch/feel? Something soft or furry, like my faux fur throw blanket. How often do you wear tights? I haven’t worn tights in years. I wear leggings everyday, though. If you had to choose, what’s the most important thing in your life at the moment? My faith, family, and health. Do you have Netflix? Yep. Has there ever been anything you’ve become interested in much later than other people? Yeah. Like with TV shows or movies, for example. Why is your favorite TV show your favorite? I have a lot of favorite TV shows. Describe your favorite picture of yourself, or post it. My baby photos. Is there a genre of music that some people would be surprised that you enjoy? I don’t think so. Assuming you have a Facebook, if one of your friends posted things that annoyed you, would you be more likely to delete them as a friend, hide their statuses, or just put up with it? I’d just hide their posts. I think you can like “mute” people or something like that on Facebook. Have you ever had a veggie burger? I had one once several years ago. Do you like candles? I wish I were into them cause they’re aesthetically pleasing and relaxing, but I’m not. What’s your favorite video game? Mario Bros everythijng. What was something you liked about today? It’s only 4:43 in the morning. Ask me later. When was the last time you passed out? Never. Do you think “friends with benefits” relationships could ever possibly work without anyone getting hurt? Not from my experience and many stories I’ve heard from other people. Someone catches feelings or you’re not on the same page and someone/both get hurt. It’s just too messy. Do you wear more sweatshirts or jackets? Sweatshirts. What was the last thing you had to drink? Starbucks Doubleshot energy drink. When was the last time you wore a sports bra? Never. When was the last time you went to a waterpark? I don’t do waterparks.  Does your best friend live close to you? My best friend is my mom, who I live with. Have you ever rode a train? Nope. Where did you get the shirt you’re currently wearing? The UC I went to. When was the last time you played Rock Band? With whom? I’ve never played Rock Band, but I loved playing Guitar Hero back in the day. I want to play! What was the last thing that you ate? Ramen. Who last messaged you on Facebook? My aunt. What were you doing Saturday at 1:30 pm? Sleeping. The last time you were intoxicated, what were you drinking? I think it was Jack and Coke. It was 7 yeas ago, so *shrug* Who last walked you home? When I was 19-early 20s I had a friend who lived like 10-15 minutes away walking distance and she and I walked around a lot to nearby coffeeshops and restaurants before she got her license. And to each other’s houses. Anyway, there were times she walked me home. What do you do to help your face from breaking out? I don’t do anything, honestly. Thankfully, acne just stopped being an issue for me when I got older. Apart from a couple pimples every now and then. Did you make any new friends lately? If so, what are their names and how did you meet them? Nope. Would you rather see your favourite band/artist in concert with 2 other people or have a free $20,000 shopping spree to Walmart? I’d take the concert for sure. I haven’t been to one in over 10 years, I miss concerts! Who knows when we’ll have any concerts again now. :( When was the last time you went out to eat? Back in early February. On a scale of 1-10, how anxious are you currently? At this current moment, like a 4. What kind of music do you listen to? I like variety. Various genres and artists across decades. What does your perfect day consist of? A day at the beach. Do you have any online friends? We have an awesome little survey community on here. I read your survey answers and I root for you. I want the best for you guys.  Would you dye your hair red? I do. I’ve been dyeing my hair red for 5 years. If your ex wanted to take you back, would you say yes? Nope. How is the weather? Right now it’s 57 F.

My computer suddenly died a couple of weeks ago.  I was right in the middle of writing finals and didn’t have time to wait for it to get repaired or spend time researching a new computer or even wait a couple of days for shipping.  The only place to buy a computer in my town is Walmart and they only had four total in stock, so I bought a cheap laptop just get by.  (I had been thinking about getting one for awhile, especially now that we’re doing work and school from home, but this forced my decision.)  I was hesitant to even try to play The Sims on it, but I’m off work this week and bored, so I gave it a try.  It actually runs great . . . keeping in mind I have no cc installed.
Unfortunately I hadn’t backed up any of my files in five years, so I have no backup of the Kingdom I have been playing and posting about recently.  I don’t have any reason to think there’s anything wrong with my hard drive, so I’m still hopeful that my files are still safe.  Obviously I won’t be posting any Kingdom posts for awhile (and if my files aren’t recoverable then that’s the end of it.)  I do have older backups of my other neighborhoods on my eternal drive.  So while they might be out of date, I could still continue with them if I want.
I did decide to try yakumtsaki’s pet asylum challenge yesterday.  My son started playing with me.  I let him choose all the chance cards, which he decided was his favorite part and we started coming up with story lines as we were playing about the relationships between the pets.  He said to me, “I understand why you post sim pictures on tumblr now.”  So you might see the story of our pet asylum (still in progress) soon.

Does anyone know your bank pin number other than you? Who?
Probably not.
Have you ever had a boyfriend/girlfriend who was depressed?
That’s usually my job. -insert eye roll-
Would you be able to climb out your bedroom window to sneak out?
I wouldn’t need to since I’m an adult, but probably not. I would need a ladder anyways to do it.
What would you do if you found out the last person you called was pregnant/got someone pregnant?
I don’t know who I last called even was.
Can you taste the difference between brand name food and store brand food?
Some things, yes.
Would you be embarrassed to buy pads/tampons/condoms? Which one more?
I used to be embarrassed to buy all of them. Now I just turn a little red when I am buying condoms.
If a stranger went in your bedroom, would they be able to tell what gender you are from just looking at it?
I doubt it. Since there are 4 people basically living in it.
Are your parents gullible?
My mom might be to some degree. She tends to read things on facebook and believe it too easily.
Do you still own a VCR?
My mom would like to buy one since we have a million VHS tapes, but no.
About how much money have you spent on food in the past two weeks?
Uh, like $55 or something.
If you were in a car accident would the last person you kissed care?
I would hope so since we’re married.
If you were looking for a new pair of shoes where would you go?
Probably Walmart. They’re cheap.
How much was the last pair of shoes you bought?
It was Converse, so more than I usually spend on myself.
What color is the computer/laptop you’re on? Did you buy it yourself?
Black, and no. My parents bought it for me right before I graduated college because the one I bought myself right after I graduated high school wasn’t holding up anymore.
Do you have a second home?
I do not.
Would you be surprised if you saw the last person you texted smoking?
Kind of, yeah.
Does the smell of cigarettes, weed and beer repulse you?
I don’t really enjoy the smell of any of those things, but especially cigarettes.
Was the last person you kissed younger or older than you?
He is younger by a whole 22 days.
Do you think people have any misconceptions about you?
Oh, I am sure they do.
Have you ever purchased Girl Scout cookies?
I have, but not usually for me. I don’t really care for them.
Do you like waffles?
Sure. I don’t eat them often though.
Do you watch birthing videos on a day-to-day basis?
No. I used to watch birth vlogs on youtube when I was pregnant with Wyatt, but those don’t show everything. Just labor and then baby after, usually when they’ve been cleaned up a bit.
Do you find piercings/tattoos attractive?
Depends on the person, but sure.
Would you talk to someone you don’t know on the internet?
I have several times.
How often do you drink Monster?
Pretty much never these days.
Have you ever made totally pointless videos with your friends?
When I was younger, I did that a lot.
Do you like to buy those Warped Tour compilations?
No idea what those are.
Do you like sitting on the inside or outside of a restaurant booth?
I prefer the inside. But I’m almost always put on the outside so I can feed my babies, or assist them in feeding themselves. Because Jacob evidently can’t.
Do you own a nightgown?
I do not.
Have you ever made a house out of a giant cardboard box?
Kind of, yes.
Have you ever made a tent out of sheets in your bedroom?
Ohh yes. Many times.
Do your grandparents know how to operate a cell phone?
My grandpa on my dad’s side does not. My grandma on my dad’s side can barely. It’s interesting to see her comments on Facebook. My grandpa on my mom’s side can’t really. My biologically grandma on my mom’s side passed away, but she could handle a basic phone well. I’m sure she’d love the phones now. My grandpa’s girlfriend, who’s like a grandma, does really well with her phone.
Have you ever had sex or something like it?
I have two kids. What do you think?
Have you ever read a George Orwell book?
I don’t think so.
Have you ever worn fishnets?
Yeah. For Halloween.
How many piercings and tattoos do you have?
I don’t know what piercings are still open. I have 3 tattoos. I want more tattoos.
Is someone in your family affected by Asperger’s?
One of Jacob’s cousins.
In a hotel do you always nose through all the drawers and cupboards?
Not anymore.
Would you rather go out to eat or be eaten out?
Go out to eat. I’ve missed going out to eat, and I’m too tired to deal with having sex.
Do you always wear your seat belt?
Probably about 98% of the time.
Have you ever liked someone much older than you?
Celebrities.
Have you ever been in a play?
I was in a musical in middle school.
Do you have any secrets that nobody knows about?
Probably.
Is there ice cream in your freezer?
There is, actually.
Have you ever started to laugh but played it off as a cough successfully?
I’m sure I have.
Have you ever liked the lyrics of a band but hated the music?
Yup.
Does your bathroom have a window?
Unfortunately. I hate it.
Do you go somewhere to get your eyebrows done?
I do not.
When you were younger did you read the A Series Of Unfortunate Events books?
Some of them. I never finished the series though.
Who was the last band you saw live?
Does Ed Sheeran count?
Do you believe prayer really works?
I do not.
Are you a fan of the band Gym Class Heroes?
I liked a couple songs.
Frosted flakes or frosted mini wheats?
Lately, Frosted Flakes.
Have you been on a date in the park?
I guess so, sure.
Ever dated someone you were best friends with first?
Not best friends. But we were friends.
Are there any diseases/health problems that run in your family?
Yup.
Do you have asthma?
I do.
Are tongue piercings slutty?
Of course not.
Is there anybody you think is hot over the age of 40?
Jensen Ackles. Misha Collins.
Last person to take off your pants, besides you?
Probably Jacob.
Do you remember those cool highlighters that smelled like popcorn?
I do not.
Might you enjoy hanging out in the woods for day or two?
Eh. Maybe if we’re camping.
Have you ever written something on a bathroom stall?
I have not.
Least favorite alcoholic drink?
Jager.
Have you ever kissed someone named Paul or Luke?
I have not.
How did you meet the last male you texted?
Middle school. He used to sit on my lap and eat my lunches.
Have you ever had an embarrassing email address?
I guess so.
Do you put shampoo in your left or right hand?
Left.
Do you have a bull ring through your nose?
I do not.
Do you and your dad get along?
We do. Might not be as close as I am to my mom, but we get along well. I’m a lot like him in a lot of ways.
Can you see your purse right now?
I don’t carry a purse.
Are you wearing any perfume? What kind?
I am not.
Are there products in your hair?
Nope. Unless you count the remnants of the Splat hair dye.
When you get colds, do you use nasal spray to help get your nose unstuffy?
Not usually.
Do you actually like sneezing?
I hate it.
Have you taken a shower yet today?
No. I did Sunday. And I will probably take another in the morning before work.

Fresh Squad Malik, A Review*
*Tumblr Safe Censored Version
Tumblr media
The Fresh Dolls have been a steadily growing line, and recently introduced some guys to their line up of girls. Fully articulated ones at that, so of course I was interested. Malik here is from the deluxe set and cost $24.99. So how is he? Well we’ll find out.
Tumblr media
First off, I apologize for this lighting, it’s gonna be all over the place during this review. All the same, I think you can see Malik comes in a fairly common form of packaging nowadays, the plastic cover attached to a card board backing.
There you can see the variety of accessories he comes with, and a boast of 13 points of articulation! That’s awesome, articulated boy dolls are getting harder and harder to find in the play doll market.
Tumblr media
On the back we have pictures of various ladies available in this line, as well as two other male characters who were unfortunately not at walmart that day when I bought him.
I must sadly admit, I have yet to purchase one of their ladies, so I can’t talk about them in this review.
Tumblr media
A close up of Malik with the outer shell removed.
Tumblr media
He comes with a black varsity style jacket.
Tumblr media
As well as laptop, phone, and sunglasses.
Tumblr media
Here’s all his things out of the box. He was extremely easy to remove, no tags in his head, just a few around his waist and legs. I was so relived about that, fearing what would happen to his braids.
There’s a lot to cover with him, so let’s start with his things.
Tumblr media
The laptop is cute, and has a sticker to make it look like he’s on the Fresh dolls website. The phone also uses sticker details.
Tumblr media
The phone is pretty basic, but does have the Fresh logo on the back. (My apologies that it’s hard to see.) Unfortunately it does not have any grips, so he cannot hold it properly without rubber bands or some other extra attachment.
Tumblr media
The laptop can close, and also had the Fresh logo on the back. This piece will likely get a lot more use from me; it’s cute and previously I only had one mini laptop everyone had to share, so I’m glad to have it.
Tumblr media
The sunglasses solid back, and have no painted details.
Tumblr media
Onto his clothes, the jacket is made of a dense knit fabric, it feels very solid and nice. I wish there was a little something to break up the solid color, but on the plus side it will be very easy to match with other pieces.
Tumblr media
And here’s what Malik comes wearing, a white t-shirt, an open plaid collared shirt, and blue jeans. It’s a pretty realistic fashion choice, I see plenty of guys irl dressed similarly.
Tumblr media
The shirt is make of a synthetic fabric. with the design printed on. It feels sewn together well, but I’m not a big fan of it. I like plaid, but this particular pattern isn’t doing it for me, not helped by the stiff, plastic like material. I understand doll lines use it to save money, but it feels cheap.
Tumblr media
Luckily, the shirt under it is much better. It’s a nice feeling cotton knit, Like the jacket is is all one solid color, albeit white this time, but still a good, versatile piece to have around.
Tumblr media
And speaking of versatility, jeans! Oh Lord am I happy to see a nice pair of jeans on a guy doll again. Shorts are becoming way too common, and when I do see pants they're made specific to one outfit and can’t be swapped around as much as I’d like.
These are fantastic too, and made of a thin denim with realistic sewn details. Very Quality, and my favorite of the outfit pieces.
Tumblr media
Onto the last of his outfit, his shoes, They’re a sturdy, if stiff plastic, though not hard to remove or get back on despite it, with nice molded details in a solid red color. I’m not a huge fan of how bright the red is, especially with nothing to break it up, so they’ll likely get a paint job from me.
Even so, they do what they’re supposed to, and do match his plaid shirt well enough.
And with all that said....
Tumblr media
Onto the doll himself!
I’m gonna be honest, one of the reasons I have not bought a Fresh doll before were their faces. Not so much the sculpt, but I’m not a fan of their screening style. I would be lying if I said I liked it here.
The eyes in particular lose me, I think it’s the bold shading. It’s not bad, it’s just not my taste. On a technical level, the screening is fine, there’s no smudges, and I didn’t see much wonk among the shelf. So that’s good.
The sculpt is nice though, and with the facial hair especially his face makes me think of Miles Morales’s Uncle Aaron. If Uncle Aaron had braids lol.
Speaking of his braids:
Tumblr media
Wow! I love his hair so much. It’s so looong!! and It feels so nice to the touch too. They did an excellent job here.
Tumblr media
The rooting is good as well, there’s no part, but it’s dense enough you can fake it if you don’t push it too far. It’s fantastic.
Tumblr media
Speaking of fantastic things, that body sculpt! I wasn’t sure what to expect, this was the line’s first boy doll, and I’ve seen experienced doll makers come up with less than impressive things.
But this sculpt? Now this is what I’ve been looking to see.
Tumblr media
It’s so realistic and natural in it’s details, the best comparisons I can even think to it are all from much more expensive collector dolls.
Tumblr media
I mean just look at that, my pictures don’t do justice at all to it.  I am so impressed.
Well we’ve established the sculpt is good, but how does he pose?
Tumblr media
Well he does sit nice and level.
Tumblr media
His knees go just shy of a 90 degree angle, so kneeling is not going to be his strong suit, but a one-knee pose he can hold no problem.
Tumblr media
His arms and wrists too don’t quite make it to that right angle either, meaning he can’t touch his face, or put a hand on his hip realistically.
Tumblr media
So close.
Tumblr media
He can do full splits no problem.
Tumblr media
Both ways, though not quite as flat to the ground in this direction.
Not bad over all, but just shy of being perfect. Most of his poses he holds very well, not too stiff or too loose, aside from his right hip which flopped a bit.
But for a first foray into making male dolls, I’m very impressed and pleased.
As far as sizing, here he is next to some other bodies I had one hand.
Tumblr media
His body is a touch shorter than collector Ken, and slightly thicker, but not so far off that they can’t share clothes.
Tumblr media
Broad Ken I included because I don’t have any current playline Ken bodies, but he shows the playline height comparison well enough. It’s very close.
Sculpt wise he’s much more in line with my action figure body however.
If anyone would like more comparisons, let me know and I’ll try by best.
Tumblr media
Here he is, once more dressed, and chilling on his laptop. I definitely like his jacket more than the plaid shirt.
So what’s my over all opinion?
At a price of $24.99 he’s on the higher price end of playline, but definitely worth it. His gorgeous hair, fantastic body sculpt, articulation and sturdy, versatile clothing give him more than enough positives to outweigh the few negatives.
And quite frankly articulate dolls of color are near impossible to find, so it makes me very glad to see these showing up in stores where they can be readily available.
I bought him in the hopes of rebodying another doll of mine, but I love his hair so much it’s almost a shame to do so. I can definitely see myself buying more in the future.
I might even have to break down and pick up one of the Fresh Squad ladies. He has my full recommendation and I wish this line much future success.

Hey so.... my laptop just died and being a writer and an avid gamer that makes me very upset. No one in my life is trying to help me what to get to replace it. I start classes again next week and I'm so stressed out. Sorry to vent, but can you please help me figure out what laptop to look at as a replacement?
Oh, I’m sorry. My computer died about a month back so I know the pain. I’ve only ever had laptops (some cheap one from walmart, then my first mac and now I’m on my second mac). I love my macbook pro but I don’t recommend it unless you’re willing to part with a lot of money.
Look at best buy, walmart, amazon. They may still be having back to school sales on laptops so price may help you lean in a certain direction. Your college bookstore may have discounted student pricing for electronics (that’s how I got my first mac quite a bit cheaper) so that’s another place to check out.
My work laptop is an HP elitebook. Still pricy but it’s pretty good. It might be suitable for gaming too. If you really get in a bind and don’t have a computer by the time classes start, remember you can always go to your library and use their computers for free to work. You may even be able to download some software like MS office for free too :)

So thinking on it, I’m not so sure if I should be using mini for mobile games. I did buy mini solely for writing purposes, and while I do want to have things to stim with, I’m worried that having the mobile games on mini is not only slowing it down, but making me much more easily distracted all the while. It’s nice to play games on a much later screen than a cell phone, but alas. I think that I shouldn’t but too much on mini so it can run smoothly when I want to write at all times. Then again, I think the  slowdown is mostly due to start up lag, because once the tablet’s been on for a few minutes the lag is almost non existent.
Side note? If you’re in the market for a budget machine that can do basic tasks like web browsing, writing on google docs, ectect? I definitely recommend getting a cheap “Two in one” tablet like mini (My RCA viking pro) that comes with its own keyboard. It’s very portable, the keyboard on this specific model is pretty satisfying and good enough for me, has a 4-5 hour battery life when you have the screen on (and it lasts way longer if you need to put it to sleep, mini has lasted several days in sleep mode no problem) and I find that I am using mini more than my old laptop, actually!
Sadly I don’t think walmart sells RCA Viking pros anymore, so I don’t want to recommend a product you can’t find easily. But I do love my little two in one tablet. I totally decked it out with a space/galaxy print case and attached a bracelet to it as a charm. I think it’d even make a great “laptop” alternative for kids if I’m to be honest. It’d be a good size.
Sorry, I’m just in the need to gush a bit about my tablet. I was worried that I’d regret my purchase, but I really don’t. Even if I haven’t used mini for its original intended purpose of a mobile laptop to take with me out and write on, I still use it fairly often, and I am working on getting a set up where I can go to the gym more easily so here’s hoping I’ll be able to carry mini to the gym and write after a good workout and shower.
