Just finished season 4 of MASH

I know this art blog is quickly becoming a MASH rampage (not intentional, I swear) but I really want to give my thoughts on the season 4 finale and this seems like the best place to do it.

An incomplete list of every moment that struck me in S4E24: The Interview:

Hawkeye's demeanour in this episode is entirely different than in 'Yankee Doodle doctor', particularly his behaviour toward the film crew. This is unsurprising, but still significant to me.

I loved hearing Radar talk about his earthworms. I love whenever the characters engage in genuine hobbies outside of their jobs in the army, but hearing Radar babble about his earthworms was especially lovely.

"War is just killing, that's all." - Klinger

Hawkeye is so honest this episode, and he does it all with this completely checked out look, eyes glazed over.

Hawkeye also sums up his whole entire character. He talks about putting on a 'coat' of morale just to make others stop believing in where they are because it's the only way he can feel present. He also get's asked how he stays sane, which is pretty significant foreshadowing, to which he answer with a list of frankly insane things to do. It reminds me of the S1 episode where he pretended to lose it in order to get time off, but also of all the little times in episodes where he did something that was a bit outlandish, a bit crazy, and somehow also made perfect sense, like when he (briefly) pretended to be a corpse in an attempt to get back to his father.

"There's so much more to care about," and "It just doesn't matter anymore," are two things Hawk says in basically one breath and boy is that relatable.

I've already seen this clip but Mulcahy talking about the steam and the bodies in the cold hurts every time.

Genuine, non-sexual focus and appreciation for the nurses and the jobs they do.

Referencing the episode where Radar get's drunk in Tokyo and him looking so abashed about it.

More on Klinger– Usually he takes advantage of any opportunity to display his insanity to higher ups. He doesn't do that here. He talks entirely sincerely about his joy for home and his hate for the war. You can really see every emotion on his face. He is so real.

Radar's compassion for the local Koreans. There's something special about it coming from him specifically that I can't quite pinpoint but I love it. Maybe because he comes from such a similar background but is now in a position where the people he answers to tell him that he's better than them. I think Radar must feel he has more in common with the local farmers than with his own colleagues.

I've never thought about it before, but it makes so much sense that Potter misses being around people his own age, and I could probably go on about that forever but I probably shouldn't.

Father Mulcahy looks so tired.

BJ smiles when he greets his wife and daughter, but when he looks down he looks devastated. How hard must it be to talk to his family through a TV screen. The acting in this episode it amazing.

I think it was BJ who talked about being torn between his love for the people he worked with and wanting to erase them from his memory, which reminded me of a line from the MASH fanfic I wrote before I even watched this episode; 'Nothing makes me happier than having people to miss, and that they’re far enough away that I can miss them.' (Check out my short fic, it's called After Life - Hawkeye's Poem)

The narrator ends by saying that they're doing what they do best but what they'd rather not do in a place they'd rather not be and I think that's just about the point of the show

All said, amazing episode, perfect acting, did what just about every episode of MASH does and gave me a deep sense of melancholy. I've seen a lot about this episode on here and I totally get why but I think we should also give some appreciation to the episode before it (Deluge) because I genuinely believe that that was just as good.

another roleswap AU (because i have lost control of my life)

these things. are all i know how to make now.......

ANYWAY it's my take on a wander<-->sylvia roleswap AU!!! i didn't Properly draw sylvia here because i couldn't get her to look right, and she's basically the Same anyway. just without her saddle and with the hat tied around her neck. i don't know if i'm entirely happy with these designs (struggled with the colors for wander and i'm not sure i really like them) but they're all i could think of....and i didn't wanna just copy anyone else's. so that's how they Are for now until i think of something better! (general stuff about the AU and additional doodles under the cut)

for sylvia, i was thinking about her differences in reforming people compared to wander's. while we don't exactly see her do that in the show, she does get Somewhere with villains that wander can't/hasn't tried to do anything with: dominator and peepers. the fact that she almost got dominator to appreciate the beauty of life, someone who is Definitely irredeemable—yeah, i think she could definitely redeem someone, if she tried. how does her method differ from wander's?wander's is precise, time-tested, and based on his analysis of the other person's character; he constantly pushes their buttons to see what makes them tick. while sylvia, from what we see—it's just to mostly...treat them normally. like, relate to them: she has fun brawling with dominator, she and peepers find similarities in Their Idiots. she talks to them. basically, sylvia works from common ground and wander works from uncommon ground. if that makes sense

so, i imagine in wander's place, sylvia's just kind of. Chill! she doesn't have wander's thousands of years of experience, but she has her own down-to-earth attitude, and it's not like her less than thousands of years experience isn't valuable at all. she probably hasn't redeemed a villain before, but she's definitely helped people, and well if they cross paths grop darn it she's going to try. who knows? it could work! it worked with wander, at least. (and like, this is just a small thought that i'm not sure would apply but: mini hater and peepers swap perhaps, not in the complete roleswap way, hater's still the boss, but more like. maybe swapping who's the Main Guy to be redeemed? sylvia's way of relating to people might work more with peepers than hater...but i don't know, i could see it either way)

and speaking of wander: how's our non-violent do-gooder make it to the point of being The Fighter? what got him to abandon his carefree attitude to be The Protector? well! nothing!! he simply never had it in the first place!!! instead of learning to go with the flow and take things as they come...he kinda just Didn't. he never got the hat which to me is what allowed him to start doing that (i have a whole backstory about this but it's a bit long so i'll just move on) instead for the rest of his life continued living in a constant state of anxiety. which is, you know, Not Good for a guy, especially when this lasts thousands of years. i think he still has to help people, but he hasn't gained the courage to go above and beyond or confront villains like in canon. Wander With Survival Instincts, basically. and his main reaction to fear is to run away; but i think, over time, that might not be sustainable, or he might meet someone that convinces him to start fighting back just a bit.

yes, i am sneaking in just one other swap here: screwball and lil bits. this might seem strange and it kinda is. i'm still kinda workshopping it, like maybe screwball should swap with ryder instead...but i dunno, i've always just associated screwball and lil bits with each other. two villains specific to wander and sylvia respectively, whom the other is not able to understand as a threat throughout their debut episode. i think it would be funny. and screwball being a bounty hunter when swapping with bits just Fits, since wander eventually ends up as a bounty hunter before meeting sylvia...of course lending to the idea that they were partner bounty hunters in the past. which works really well, i think

and considering comedy and horror are two sides of the same coin, and that this wander is primarily focused on his Fear, it'd be fun if he had more of a horror theme. a really campy, goofy one. my thoughts are maybe that screwball helped guide wander to lean more towards a Fighting fear response, but eventually scared him away somehow. i don't know how yet, but i'll figure it out. here's a visualization:

and as for how wander and sylvia met, i still have to figure out some parts, but i think that sylvia would notice how anxious wander is, ask him if he's okay, and he would promptly break down, as such:

and from that moment on, wander solemnly swore that he would protect sylvia for the rest of her life, and she's been stuck with him since. (not that she's mad about that)

of course he's still energetic and hyperactive...i think his fighting would reflect that. he's a feral little creature

oh, and for sylvia's relationship with The Hat: she probably found it beat up and bruised one day, with no one around (wander not stealing the hat all those years ago meant a happy ending for No One). yet another thing i have to figure out fully is how she ended up taking it with her, but she did. i don't think she fully understands it, she hasn't realized that it gives you what you need, but she does know that it dispenses items that are sometimes useful (it's a sassy little thing to her) and might somewhat realize its sentience, so she keeps it around, though she's still building trust with it

WIP Zutara Challenge: Reality TV AU

Hello Hello, so another stretch but I find this one to be fun for me, given that I have been holding on a moment to talk about this WIP for a LONG time.

So context: I had a dream once where Zuko is on a live stream and is encouraging an artist on a stream and the people watching to "draw Katara" to life so to speak. And it got me thinking about what if Zutara came to the real world. It is still long in process, but the basic is Katara and Zuko are in our world and getting to experience life outside of the show. Thanks to some spirit shenanigans, they come to fall in love.

But in light of this prompt, I am going to share some interactions that I have written that they could have with their artist friend that some how brought them into our world. (She hosts them because she happened to be drawing them). (Also Also, name of the artist is not set in stone yet so if I ever make this, that is why).

Kate is in the TV room as she is doodling something and watching the big box that she had told Katara and Zuko as the TV. She had been mostly focused on drawing as she had the TV on with some reality TV on. Forgetting a moment that she now had extra roommates, Kate was startled as Katara came around the corner and was staring at the TV before speaking.

"What are those people doing?" Katara asked.

Kate jumped a moment as she looked up and then took a deep breath. "Oh Katara you scared me," she said as she brought her tablet back to her lap, thankful it was not damaged. She looked up at the TV and then shrugged. "Just some old rerun of a reality TV show. It is not a big deal."

"Reality TV? So it is not like 'fiction' like you mentioned before where the story is made up?" Katara asked as she sat down.

Katara shrugs again. "Technically... It honestly is all fiction. Especially reality TV. TV is mostly for entertainment honestly."

"How so?" Katara looks more confused.

"Well," Kate grabs the remote and manages to pull up an episode of 'Real House Wives' and brings up a episode. "So, these people you see on the screen, while they are actual people, a lot of what they do an say is scripted. Kinda like a play, but instead of seeing it on a stage, it is all on the TV and 'in depth', but it is not really real. Because there is no way they look like 'off camera' or... out of view."

"So... then is everything made a show?" Katara asked.

"Well.... yes and no, some people just go about their day, and some are rich enough to act like 'this is what I do every day.' In the end, it is just more like fun to see people act in a way."

Katara nodded a little as she had to think about it. She wondered how much of her world could have been considered reality TV base on that from the creators of this world matching her story. And seeing some of her personal mistakes.

"But it not like that for you guys, or it is not seen like that. I hope this helps." Kate tried to assure Katara but it only added to Katara's dread in a way.

Later that night as Zuko was sleeping on the futon again, to allow Katara to sleep, Katara was tossing and turning on the bed as she could not get the reality TV out of her head. Zuko seemed to notice her tossing and turning as he turned to his side to be closer to her. "Hey, are you okay?"

Katara sighed as she looked to him. She turned around to be closer to face him as she shook her head. "Just... a lot to think about. And Kate said something about what that TV was showing. And it just has me worried."

"You mean that 'Reality TV' thing?" Katara was about to ask before he answered. "I was meditating, but I could still hear a bit of it."

Katara chuckled. "Right, these walls are thin," she mentioned as she sighed. "But yeah. And just... worried that maybe our lives were all a lie. And that I am nothing more than just a piece of fiction to these people."

Zuko nodded as he smiled at her. "Well, you want to know something that the show never got right about you?"

Katara looked at him softly as she was curious. "What did they not get right?"

Zuko smiled as he reached for her hand and took is softly, feeling a bit bold for some reasons. "They don't know the true power you hold in your eyes and how you truly fight. They try to show you as just a little flower, when I know you are like the ocean, powerful and should be respected."

Katara was thankful it was dark in the room so Zuko could not see her blushing, but she knew he probably felt it from how much her heart was racing. She smiled more as she squeezed his hand. "Thank you Zuko."

"You're welcome, Katara," he said as he smiled more.

The event of Dr. Lundi half-crying on the bus back home because she couldn't stream to us BUYING the SKIN will be a core memory created based on eternal friendship. I will never be happier to wake up than I am when I see an 'Eve, can I be soggy again?' before being bombarded with Mlynar details and ramblings regardless of what I say.

There's a lot to unpack but I can't possibly ever talk about Mlynar the same way Lundi does in VC. She pulls up receipts proof of her words as well every time she mentions something.

Based on this --- Based on this post about our Arknights Yumeship's kid being bullied, I had a little spiral and was just thinking about different scenarios. Out of all the answers given, Kryo's is most direct and... very in character towards his sarkaz/draco child.

Lundi's also leaning towards physical aggression, instant retaliation for their little baba horse.

And then I just... imploded... (This was on the basis of the parents trying to justify their child's behaviour)

While Pinkie is not too interested on the aspect of children we've been trying to involve them more in the Yumeship questions just because their relationship with Swire/Chen is SO wholesome but they're shy to actually indulge. It's alright, we will always be there for the sugarbaby ultramind that is our friend.

You can see this conversation was very important to me.

Vigorously searched for the video, but basically, me and the Team were watching Unusual Memes from this one channel and one of them was of a guy who walked up to his neighbour/friend's home camera and said 'Well, you DON'T get to decide when to party, I want you around now.' Okay if youve seen my .posts you mightt be aware that I. really like zoey!

I feel a lot about them. I dont like relate to them in a deep way but something about her makes me so drawn to her character i think about her constantly. I think about zoey when i wake up when im at school and when i go to sleep. I have like 10 pages in my sketch book dedicated to litrearlly just doodles of her and no one else. I think about her a lott. I think shes a realllyyy interesting character

Shes heavily tied to the dream world in a way she didnt even know and its. like.

Every other of the main kids just happened their way into the situation but zoey and the rest of her family were doomed from near the start like the MOMENT beau weilded that sword it was all over for them all. Shes connected to THE fundemental character of the plot (other than Lunia because she haunts the narrative like crazy) and the way shes the opposite of the Night hunter but also very similar is so crazy. I think a screw got loose in my brain when i first saw the headcanon that she looks exactly like Beau except for her eyes Like that drove me crazy and it spawned so many ideas.

Shes very much beaus daughter while also striving to be everything hes not. If that makes sense

I also think her not liking the Night Bureau at first is really interesting and should be talked about more tbhhh ! She doesnt like to conform to strict rules and believes in a TRULY free dream world where everyone has their own space and whatnot.

Shes self sacrifical too. I dont doubt she would throw herself away if she had to to save the dream world from the nightmares. No one mentions this but its so obvious in Songs of the Mist. The memory of her mother, the knowledge of playing instruments and her mothers song all meant SO MUCH to her that she crys while in the space bus with everyone else because she thinks shes lost it forever. It means a lot to her and is very important to her in a way that i dont think i can properly describe.

YET. YET WHEN THEY ALL THINK THEY NEED TO GIVE UP A MEMORY TO FIX THE HOURGLASS. SHE DOESNT HESITATE TO GIVE IT UP

SHE DOESNT HESITATE TO GIVE UP WHAT CLEARLY MEANS SO MUCH TO HER, TO BE ABLE TO BE A STEP CLOSER TO FREEING THE DREAM WORLD.

SHE LITERALLY SAYS. "This isnt about me"

I think theres something really tragic and sad about that about how she is willing to give up a part of what makes her HER to be able to fix the hourglass. That is genuienly one of the strongest character moments in Season 1 and i dont think anyone talks about it enough.

She has a background tainted by her father yet she will do anything she can to make the world a better place.

Shes the best dreamzzz character hands down to me. Theres so much to go into with her. Its tragedy and perserverance and her way of getting through it and how shes managed to find a group she fits in with IDK. Shes just a really good character with a lot to think about. And how a lot of her is about family and how she really is a combination of beau and hannah but shes also her own unique person. Theres a lot to go into with her. I love zoey

Zoey and beau oh my godddddd I could talk about them for a good while i have. so many thoughts and scenarios and what ifs and ideas for them. I really ahte them I really do. Maybe its cause of my own rocky relationship with my father but theres something about Zoeys forgiveness and Beaus willingness to never hurt her again that drives me crazy because of all of their history together already it. Its truly something I dont know why they allowed this to be in the show theyre so complex It makes me crazy

ZOEY AND IZZIE Theyre literally older sibling younger sister to me I think izzie is a good influence on zoey like how she is on mateo helping with anxiety and stuborness and stuff And zoey trusts her a lot but also looks out for her because to her izzie is still "a little kid who hasnt seen the Horrors" and she hopes izzie can maintain that childhood innocence and wonder for as long as she can. Being with izzie helps zoey stop stressing about everything and focus on the things in the present moment bc of how izzie doesnt think much about bigger pictures and focuses on the moment and having fun. I think theyre really awesome

Unpopular opinion UHHH. Im not too sure really because i dont know what the popular opinions are

I think weshould focus a little bit more on how zoey is as much as a cringefail loser as the next guy PLEASE If youve seen the Diary of a Dream Bandit shorts that one of her starting out and completely fumbling to save the dreamer plays constantly in my head.. I feel like she was still in a bit of childhood mindset where everything works out During that time. With the way she makes it known shes the Dream Bandit like shes trying to become a cool vigilante hero SHES SOOO CRINGE I LOVE HER.

• As mentioned in the episode where BloodMoon broke Lunar’s arm, Earth can in fact hurt people! However, she rarely does unless they activate her security protocols by being aggressive or violent, or describe hurting her or someone else. (I.e, staff members, the children, or any of the animatronics)

• All characters in the SAMS are either an ally of the LGBTQ+ community, or apart of it themselves!

• Sun, Monty, BloodMoon, KC, Lunar and Solar are bisexual. Moon is aroace. Eclipse is, once again, transgender as well as panromantic. • No one besides Sun, Lunar and Earth know who Elizabeth is. Earth only kind of knows her because Earth sees her in her and Lunar’s area a lot, just kind of.. sitting there. Lunar has contemplated trying to talk to Elizabeth before, but since he’s kind of busy with getting training about his powers, he hasn’t had the time to strike up a conversation. Yet.

• Sun and Moon used to host little 1-week events in the daycare for holidays where the kids can do activities to celebrate the holidays! They made sure to include different versions of the holidays so the events could be enjoyed by all the kids! Though they stopped doing it sadly since Eclipse and Lunar took over for October.. (Lunar tried convincing Eclipse to do them, but it didn’t work…)

• Every single character except for the Creator to only SOME extent has ADHD. For some of them it’s more obvious than the others.

• Earth, Lunar, BloodMoon and Solar fidget with everything. It doesn’t matter what it is.

• Ironically, even though they deny it, BloodMoon sleeps with a stuffed animal despite the fact they will rip one owned by another person to shreds.

• BloodMoon and RE are both extremely touch deprived. While RE desperately craves it and will literally start purring if you touch him affectionately, BloodMoon will either hiss or growl if you get even close to them. Though deep down they wanna be cuddled until they can’t breathe.

• Sun and Moon have plushies of each other. They also give little gifts to each other on holidays. Earth has since joined in on the tradition since her arrival.

• Earth has a sketch book full of designs for dresses or outfits she would like to have but don’t have right now cause she can’t find a custom designer that isn’t either ridiculously expensive or out of state.

• Solar and Lunar both know morse code! They sometimes talk to each other using it like tapping on the desk or a wall.

and that’s basically all the head canons I have to share! I’m currently working on a AU where Lunar finally gets to talk to Elizabeth and gets to know her more and introduce her to Earth and the others, so feel free to look out for that! i watched it a day late but luckily didn't get any spoilers.

to summarize my experience i could only say: cute but wtf.

I'm so happy that they really spend more time on building characters and their dynamics. We finally got to know Morbius a little more and i think its way better that he didn't want to find out what life he could've been living rather than to emidietly show the audience what he could've been on his branch. its really just a cool way to show of him as a character rather than building a sad backstory for him.

As much as I ADORE Sylvie she is quite disappointing me in this season so far, and shes WAY TO HOT TO WORK AT MCDONALDS.

I don't like that theyre overusing miss minute as a plot device. She is really cool and i like her concept but she has been mentioned way too many times as a character that basically doesn't exist anymore (not talking about the times shes been mentioned as the AI they're working with at the TVA)

will probably share more of my thoughts but for now that will be it, so i don't bore you to death.

guess who found extremely old and rough doodles of a crack AU that was inspired by one episode from Primal but I scrapped it, I liked how these came out and I wanted to show just so you guys don't have nothing while I finish some drawings!!

Also warning this is extremely self indulgent I just wanted to draw pregnant Stan and living his best life so be warned

Stan while wandering through the streets of South American comes across a wishing well of some sorts (which was inspired by a fic that I don't remember the name ('': ), drunk and with nothing to lose, he throws a coin for the "fun" of it some sort. It was going to have some body horror considering that... A dick changing to a vagina and make room for a womb would definitely hurt.

Realising in the worst way possible that the fountain did work (a little too well), he decides to get his head out of his ass and try to at least get his life on track the best he can just so he wouldn't ruin the kid's life (he doesn't have a self preserving bone in his body but now that he's not "alone" anymore he had to force himself to grow some healthy habits - and like hell he's going to damage his kids just because of his stubbornness and past). It occured the same way in the show, with him crashing the car, faking his death; but not before he goes to somewhere far away, his few option chosen being Oregon, in a small secluded town (unknowingly for him, where Ford lives)

It took him a while to get accustomed to, well, everything. But slowly became routine, having to get clean and get his weight back, acquiring a job and a small apartment (enough for him and his kiddo), medic and therapists visits (which he almost gnawed his skin off at the thought of vulnerability, but he wanted to do his kid right, so the whole package it was). It was hard at first, but life's going well for him, he's in a better shape than he was in years at the few months of his pregnancy, he has a nice (and stable) salary and he has a home to go back to.

And then he meets Ford.

Man's almost having a heart attack right there, his brother who he hasn't seen in 10 years since he was kicked out is standing right in front of the cashier, staring at him with those almost dead eyes if it weren't for the amount of emotions there. He only realizes what he's looking at when he unconsciously shields his stomach, swollen with life (having gotten so used to it he didn't even try to hide it anymore). Ford on the other hand is livid, his twin - the one who ruined his life - was living in the same place as him for some forsaken reason. Not only that, he's pregnant, which shouldn't even be possible.

Their relationship is shit basically. They're still tense with each other, barely talking unless necessary. Stan just wants to go on with his life, Ford as much as he's seething wants to know everything and anything about his brother (even though he doesn't admit that). Fiddleford is suffering, until he convinces his friend to invite Stan to their house (yknow to at least talk, an actual conversation instead of borderline stalking on his job).

Get a load of this jealous and emotionally constipated loser lmao (I don't blame him I would crash out too if I found out I fumbled Stan). Bill is there too bc that fucker can and will ruin lives for the entertainment of it (but he stopped going to Stan's mindscape bc he beat the shit out of him there). I didn't really have much planned aside from this, and I didnt know where to go wit this. Might make some doodles based on this just for fun

Some thoughts for my alphonze design in New cause I actually thought abt this a lot for some reason

Alright so first and foremost his initial discription was :

Barber bowl hat (???????) with goggles on it (mostly for decoration I don’t think he’d need them, meaning a lot of him was designed more for looks than being functional)

Metal face with ‘gentle gaze’ (which is why I draw his eyes like that lmao) which leads me to believe that he wasn’t originally made as a body guard (probably a performer of some kind seeing the rest of the discription) because the main point of a body guard is to look intimidating. Maybe him and his partner at the time were supposed to be a kinda good cop bad cop type beat idk. As well as his stupid ass mustache that’s like described as twirly?? I’m not doing that shit as you’ve seen with my other drawings I’m keeping it simple he’s metal who gives a shit

“Clothes are all buckles and straps” (he has guns /j. (Unless the other option-)) probably just trying to fit the steampunk theme that was Edison kingdom I don’t see people mention the Trenchcoat a lot but hey bros never mentioned anyways. Anyways both of those “jobs” he’s had most likely didn’t include being able to ‘drive a boat’ or whatever it’s called so because I also don’t know how boats work (especially not pirate ships. Also I don’t think Edison kingdom would have many things that aren’t mechanical/magical so a completely wooden boat would feel very foreign to him

I think that because of the repurpose (from whatever he was before to body guard or wtvr) was what caused him to ‘malfunction’ into being more sentient. I wrote a whole thing abt this before with jrpwi alphonze (who I also play lmao) but I think this is also a thing that happens frequently in Edison when making war forged so there’s precautions set up in their constructs so they don’t break out and not want to follow orders. Because war forged were made to be workers I don’t think they’d (the creators) would want them wanting to have rights and opinions and stuff

can you (or followers) pls explain some of the small elements the EN version censored? i only recently started playing and i'm very curious.

Of course Anon! I've been playing the game for almost two years now, the anniversary is in March for Japanese game by the way. I'll try to give you a clear answer, however I must mention that, as far as I've read, there are not many censored elements —they've changed the language and the slangs instead. I'm going to point the main differences we've seen until now.

[This post will be under constant edition. I'll add things as I notice]

First of all, I want to clear that there is no lgbt stuff censored in TWST. That is something many people have been spreading through the Internet but they are mistaken, most of their affirmations are based upon Headcanons or Fan-canons. Even though there are hints to playful suggesting commentaries (Cater is the most popular among the topic, actually), there is nothing explicit and not a single of those facts is actually canon.

Kalim and Jamil's Personal Story (aka Vignette). Their true relationship is the one similar to Master and Slave, since Jamil was raised as his attendant since his family has served Asim's family for generations, and despite Kalim considering him a dear friend and almost a brother (which is actually said in stories yet to come to EN version as well as Episode/Book 4), Jamil thinks of him as a burden more than a friend, he likes him only a bit though.

Sam's tattoos were removed due to cultural context, which is non-existent in the original game and treated as another design since it is a reference to Dr. Facillier and voodoo practice. In the EN version, they took that representation out of the game so people who actually practice voodoo won't find it offensive, since it is not the purpose of this game.

They changed "Madols" to "Thaumarks". The name of "Madol" could be defined as a short word composed by "Magic" (魔法 Mahō) and "Dollars", Ma/dol. If we're following the same logic, Thaumarks could be defined the same, "Thaumaturgy" is a word used to define the ability to perform magic or miracles (an equivalent to "Mahō"), "Marks" used to be a unit of account over England's area and a coin in Germany before being replaced whit Euros; Thau/marks.

Trey's Unique Magic was another noticeable change many fans didn't like. It's a small thing though, but it was kind of weir to change the name to "Paint the Roses" from "Doodle Suit". I don't know why, though, but translators/Disney may have their reasons for it.

Cater Diamond and Idia Shroud language. Cater is a person fixed with social media, he's always carrying his phone talking about the latest trends, using slangs and terms you'd usually write while chatting with someone or in gaming; while Idia talks literally like an "average" hardcore otaku will talk, he talks with acronyms and some "cringy" words or sentences —now, this is not censorship, is a literal translation of how an english-speaker will use this terms in their own language, their japanese lines are basically the same in these language. They only tried to put there some terms like the "like-suscribe" thing.

Some characters are way too 'kind' compared with their version in the game. TWST is based upon Villains, alas we're not expecting them to be kind and sweet from the beginning —this was one of the first fixes they made on the emergency maintenance during the second day of the game.

This is not censorship itself, but they made somewhat softer the way Riddle's mother treated him —they made it seem harsher in the original version. But the story is basically the same.

Chen'ya didn't suffer any change at all but the name, which is written this way by those who fan-translated the game; now, the name in Japanese is "Alchemi Alchemivich Pinka" because that's how it was written in katakana, so I am going to clear this point as a person who speaks and understand how japanese works: katakana is used for outside words BUT WE USE IT TO WRITE PRONUNCIATION, which means if we read the word as "Waver" it is written as "Weiba", why? Because the pronunciation in english is actually "weɪvɚ". So it makes sense he's named "Artemiy Artemiyevich Pinker" AND it makes sense you're confused if you come from JP ver. since R could be interpreted as L because we don't have an L in japanese. If you change R for L in the fan translations it says "Archemi Archemivich Pinker", as for the "Pinker" instead of "Pinka" is because you actually don't pronounce "-er" as dry as it goes.

A noticeable change is the interaction between Sebek and Malleus. Sebek respects Malleus to the point he even owns a painting of him in his room, he always refers to him as "The Young Master", "My Young Lord" or "Lord Malleus". At the English version, he refers to Malleus just as Malleus, only certain chapters of the MS or PS's of another characters he refers to him as "Master". This is a huge failure for translators since it looks like there were different teams in charge of it, and they actually never came in contact with each other, there why we have so many fluctuations.

Floyd Leech's nickname for MC/Yuu. In the original version, he calls us "Koebi-chan" which can be translated as "Little shrimp" ("Shrimpy" for his pals haha). While at EN version they actually avoided the nickname, at least I've seen so in the few chapters of him I've read both MS and PS. They've respected some of his nick's like the one he has for Riddle

If you're curious about the difference between translations, I highly recommend Ryota's translations for main story, they do an amazing work; as for personal stories or events, there are many options in YouTube for you to take a look.

I saw a post recently where someone else analysed how Luz's love language is acts of service and Amity's is physical affection, and it got me thinking so in light of today's incredible episode I want to do some serious digging into Luz's feelings for Amity. This is probably gonna get pretty long but hey, these two are more than worth it.

I'm going to go through three key episodes for Luz and Amity's relationship so that I can properly illustrate my points, starting with Lost in Language.

First, I want to talk about how, despite the fact that Amity had been nothing but objectionable to her so far, literally all it takes for Luz to decide she wants to befriend her anyway is reading about Azura befriending Hecate in her book and seeing Amity reading to kids at the library. This clearly establishes that Luz is intrigued by Amity and willing to go out of her way to connect with her, even when Amity hasn't yet given her any particular reason to do so.

Next, let's talk about the manner in which Luz tries to save Amity from Otabin later in the same episode. This is one of the first times we see Luz attempt to be Amity's hero, as she chooses to make an unnecessarily dramatic entrance dressed as her own version of Azura, playing the role of the dashing knight come to rescue the fair maiden albeit not quite as gracefully as is usual in these stories lol. She even takes the time to doodle Amity being impressed by her performance too, introducing the idea that Amity's perception of her means a lot to Luz.

Finally for this episode, we get another example of both these things: Luz putting in a substantial effort to bond with Amity, and Luz wanting to impress Amity or get specific reactions from her. After impulsive plan to get them away from Otabin works, Luz finds the time to be a good even when they're running for their lives and actually manages to make Amity laugh which was an impressive feat at that point tbh, looking extremely pleased when her comment is received positively.

These next two moments provide a neat link to the next episode I want to discuss, Adventures in the Elements, so I'll cover them in one go. We see Luz's first Act of Service for Amity when she offers her the Azura book she's missing to show that she wants to be friends, and then when she meets Amity to get it back we see how important the gesture was for Luz. She's very eager to hear Amity's thoughts, loves it when she finds the fanart Amity drew, and in general it's just obvious that this was another attempt to impress Amity on Luz's part.

This only continues as Luz proudly proclaims that she's going to join Amity's class at Hexside, even winking at her in the process, and solidifies the significance of her giving Amity the book even more by suggesting they start a club to talk about it further. Like, seriously, this entire episode is pretty much just Luz being adorably excited to share classes with Amity and flat out learning a whole new spell just to make sure it happens.

The interesting thing here, though, is that Luz gets really nervous as soon as the twins suggest they all train together, enough to lie to them in a moment of panic, and then gets super embarrassed when she sees that Amity is also practicing at the Knee. This doesn't seem to make much sense since Amity is being pretty nice by this point and not at all mocking or condescending, and Luz has given up on trying to look cool to the twins by now too. But it actually makes a lot of sense when you consider that this is another instance of Luz wanting to impress Amity and worrying about looking inept in front of her.

There's also the way that Luz is just... so clumsy and awkward around Amity in these episodes. The girl knocks a book to the floor and falls off a rock just trying to say hello, for crying out loud, complete with stammering over her words. Yeah, it's safe to say Luz is lowkey crushing on Amity here.

Don't worry, because I saved the best for last. Enchanting Grom Fright is basically the culmination of everything those two previous episodes set up. Not only do we get two Acts of Service from Luz, with her offering to face her own worst fear for Amity with zero hesitation and then happily offering to go to Grom with her so that Amity wouldn't end up alone, but she also brings out some dramatic flair when she declares herself Amity's “fearless champion,” like a knight in shining armour vowing to protect her princess although she still hasn't got the graceful part down lmao.

Plus, there's the fact that in both of their Lingering Eye Contact in Close Proximity with Romantic Tension™ moments in the episode, Luz's expression is the exact same as Amity's, wide-eyed and curious like she's not quite sure what to make of what she's feeling. And that's even before she just full on starts flirting with Amity later on. I'm sorry, but those smirks and fancy show-off moves while dancing are not remotely heterosexual, Luz.

All of this brings us to their current situation: Amity is aware of her crush on Luz but thinks that Luz only sees her as a friend, and Luz is subconsciously flirting with Amity as well as trying to show off for her and be her hero but remains fairly unaware of her crush on her and thinks that Amity likes someone else. So in conclusion, teenagers are useless, but we been knew. Rather, the point I want to end on is that there's a reason why Luz and Amity were so in sync with such amazing chemistry during their dance when they weren't talking, and it's because they both have different ways of communicating their emotions but when they let their actions speak for them they were finally on the same page albeit briefly.

tl;dr - Luz and Amity are both crushing hard on each other, they just need to realise that the other has a different way of expressing their feelings and find the courage to be honest with each other. Amity's crush is more glaringly blatant, what with all the blushing and gay panicking and wanting to ask Luz to the school dance, but Luz's crush on Amity is also pretty evident in the way she tries so hard to impress her and often steps in to help her out with grand gestures, which she never does to anywhere near the same extent with any of her other friends.

The first page of this doodle post is Moral Orel randomness for the most part. Just trying to draw some characters just to see how it goes. Also I drew on the page a week ago.

I first drew 4 year old Orel because I wanted to after watching Trust. He was so pure! 😊💖

I was trying to see what kind of dynamic Orel and his brothers can have and I thought "brother band". AJR probably helped with that (I probably was listening to Bud Like You while drawing this or something I don't remember it was a week ago).

Speaking of Bloberta, I watched an animatic of her and decided to doodle a fan doodle of it.

Danielle, Nurse Bendy, and Joe were drawn since I wanted to get use to drawing them. Also because uncle, mom, and son.

Raymond because I wanted to and he seems good, or ok at least. Better than Clay with alcohol but not really focused on enough for character. Still I kinda like him.

Snakey Fakey since there's a lot of talk about Wolf Clay but not a lot of talk (that I know of) about how Principal Fakey is a scummy snake.

Finally Wolf Clay because many fans have drawn him so I wanted to. That and because I love wolves.

The second page has a few more furry stuff since I thought more on the Clay Wolf thing.

Orel fits more on the role of the "loyal and kind" thing so I gave him puppy ears. He seems like the kinder Clay (dogs being kinder than wolves thing).

The last doodle is basically more brother bonding but this time I've included a bit of the theme song for the DHMIS TV show. I was listening to the theme when I was drawing them so I thought I should include the lyrics.

So I saw a gifset from the episode Power Outage that reminded me that in season one - and presumably season two - Ralph Dibny is actually dead. He died because of the accelerator explosion in December 2013, but presumably due to Flashpoint he's alive by the time season four rolls around. (So he's actually alive in season three.)

In the show, the only two people who might have realized that Ralph being alive is a product of Flashpoint are Barry (because he lived in that pre-Flashpoint timeline) and Cisco (because Vibe powers). But neither of them mention it, so I guess we'll never know for sure that his survival isn't actually down to the Legends meddling with time (like the Scooby-Doo gang, but with a significantly cooler ride - sorry, not sorry, Mystery Machine).

Anyway, all of this has reminded me of a fanfic idea I've had in the back of my head for a while.

So it'd start with Barry's return from the Speed Force at the start of season four. Iris and Eddie are married and various other changes abound as i see fit. Barry comes back still massively out of touch with reality and writing in the speedster glyphs and Wally gets help from Jesse to defeat the Samuroid bot. Also Wally isn't Kid Flash anymore - he has taken on the mantle of the Flash in his own right.

Barry starts recovering slowly, but as he does his understanding of the glyphs he's writing with wanes... even though he keeps doodling them all over the place. He winds up quitting his job at the CCPD because he's just... not in a place where he can hold down a job right now. He's also not 100% sure anything is real and that he's not still stuck in the Speed Force and he's reluctant to seek out therapy because of his experiences with therapists as a child were not good and also he'd need to discuss being the Flash which... not happening.

Which is when the bus metas start showing up (out of show order). Wally gets the indignity of the marble-related pratfall and accidentally meta-cuffing himself. Barry starts to gain more confidence in himself and his reality when he's able to shut down the accelerator before it goes critical, moments before Wally successfully cuffs Hazard. (Presumably the accelerator actually exploding would have been very unlucky for Becky, so something would have to make it shut back down, right?)

Linda returns leading to relationship drama for Wally and Jesse. Wally finds Linda attractive but would never cheat (also Linda's really only aware of him as Iris' younger brother right now), which Jesse knows but she feels jealous anyway and she doesn't like what that says about herself. She also feels like she's stretching herself really thin trying to protect Earth-2, act as Jay's back-up on Earth-3 (because he's starting to slow down and is still looking for an apprentice, but hasn't told anyone on Earth-1 what's happening to him yet), and both date and help Wally on Earth-1. It's too much work and too much stress and too much running between different Earths. She eventually decides that, much as she cares about Wally, their relationship isn't really what she needs right now and they part ways. A hopefully more satisfying break up than what we got on the show with that cube thing. Also the thing with Kilg%re happens.

Barry realizes - using Cisco's translation program - that he keeps writing something about a bus in the speedster glyph doodles. (Cisco's translation program is incomplete.) OG Team Flash connects Becky and Ramsey back to Bus 405, which Barry... er... Flashed the day he returned from the Speed Force. (hehehehehe) They're able to identify Ralph and a few other people who were on the bus because their bus passes were logged on boarding. It's still not clear who was on the bus at the time Barry Flashed it (*snicker* i regret nothing). But Ralph had to be because, well, he boarded the bus the stop right before the Barry accidentally acted like an EMP on the bus' electronic systems.

And Barry's issues with parsing reality are triggered because he remembers two versions of Ralph thanks to time traveling and memory integration - let's just say that Barry has memories of both pre and post Flashpoint timelines and say the story would theoretically handwave it better than I'm prepared to do right now. So Barry remembers this version of Ralph, who faked evidence and was a dick to Barry (almost misspelled that as being a duck to Barry). But he also remembers another version of Ralph, who didn't fake evidence and was Barry's friend and died in a car accident trying to reach the hospital after finding out Barry'd been struck by lightning while Ralph was at home and off duty and should have been safe. (Hello Barry's guilt complex which no one actually missed.)

Barry's memories are a tangled mess (gee, thanks Speed Force), so Caitlin goes with Barry and Joe when they meet Ralph. And Ralph's knee jerk reaction to keep them at arms length - especially as he's concerned they're crooked, which isn't that ironic from his PoV - is to combine obnoxiousness with sarcasm and pepper in some misogynistic comments that piss off Caitlin enough that Frost pops out to play. Joe clearly freaks out and tries to pretend he isn't freaking out. Barry just... goes with it. Whatever, Frost is part of Caitlin and Caitlin is part of Frost and he doesn't have the time, inclination, or the survival instinct to go "enemy sighted, begin defensive measures". He's just kind of like "hey Frost, nice to see you again, I've been hoping to talk w/you, but can it wait until we're done with Ralph? Or is Caitlin not gonna give you enough time for that? 'Cause I guess we're basically done here anyway."

Meanwhile Ralph is quietly freaking out with a blank O_O expression. Because Killer Frost. KILLER FROST. His fight or flight instincts are weighted heavily to freeze in place and hope to spontaneously blend into the environment.

Which is when the mob guys show up and Barry just kind of starts laughing upon learning that this version of Ralph is basically living a crime noir plot because the other Ralph loved that genre so much. Something triggers Ralph's powers while Frost cheerfully freezes the bad guys shoes to the floor and Joe arrests them. Ralph insists he was never blackmailing anyone, and Barry and Frost wind up taking him to STAR Labs while Joe waits for Eddie to show up to help him take in the thugs.

Barry and Frost do end up talking - Cisco side-eying them hard even as he gets Ralph settled in to wait for Caitlin to come back. And Barry apologizes to Frost. For how the team treated her and how Savitar treated her and just... everything. He'd like to hope they'd have handled the situation better if they'd understood Frost was a separate personality entirely, but the truth is they fucked up and pushed Frost into the position of thinking turning to Savitar was her only choice. And he hopes that she'll give them a chance to do better by her this time. Frost says she'll think about it and pretends she's not tearing up as she lets Caitlin take back over.

that's kind of where my ideas dry up and I'm not really ready to tackle writing any of this as an actual fic yet, but... I kind of saw this as a series that would include my headcanon for Ralph being face blind and him eventually bonding with Barry over the similarities between Ralph's struggle with accepting his disability and Barry's struggle in acclimatizing to his own post Speed Force incarceration disability, but with the adding drama of Barry's friendship with the Ralph-who-died and his guilt there complicating things too.

Barry would eventually take up the mantle of the Flash again with Rip showing up shortly after to borrow Wally for the Legends, though I've got no idea how that would play out. And Julian's still in there somewhere since he's still the CCPD's CSI even though Barry's had to quit. I imagine Ralph and Julian would very much not get along. (Julian and Eddie, though... they would definitely get along.)

I miss Zoenne parenting Robbe (or the dynamic in the flat as a whole) so if you could write something like that

Could you maybe write about Sander wanting to spent every minute with Robbe & how he finds it kinda strange because he used to be someone who really enjoyed and appreciated his alone time?

Sander opens the door carefully, the flat is completely and oddly quiet. He takes his jacket and boots off, leaving it on the pile of sneakers, slippers and sandals. The amount of shoes doesn’t usually represents who is home. Everyone here is really bad at putting their things away. Everything is basically communitary at this point. 

He smiles as he puts his black jacket over a very familiar brown one. This is a sign. Robbe hardly ever leaves anywhere without this jacket. And that’s all the information Sander needs. He leaves his bag on the little wood bench right next to the shoe pile and drops his keys with it, looking around. 

No sounds coming from the kitchen, Sander opens Robbe’s bedroom door and there’s nobody there, just the unmade bed they left this morning. So he tries the living room and he finally finds the one he was looking for, sitting on the floor, with all their friends around him. Sander feels like he just interrupted something, but he doesn’t feel too self aware about it. 

“Hey, you...” Robbe welcomes him with a smile and that cute voice he does for Sander. 

“Hey, cutie. Milan, Senne, Zoe...” He leaves the door closed behind him and Milan quickly moves from Robbe’s side, leaving space for Sander. He should have known this would be what he would be welcomed with. 

He was feeling really down the past few days, spent most of his time on Robbe’s bed and he didn’t see anyone else except his boyfriend, but they all obviously share a roof so they probably could tell that Sander was there. 

Robbe probably talked to all of them in different occasions and Sander is happy about that. Whenever he needs, Robbe has people that he can talk to. Sander doesn’t mind him telling them about his episodes, as long as Robbe isn’t letting his own feelings and Sander’s take over his every moment or thought. It’s good that he can put his feelings into words, Sander envies that. 

He sits as close as he can be to Robbe and it’s only natural that they gravitate towards each other, leaving a soft kiss on their lips, getting lost inside their eyes for a second. Sander wants more, but he doesn’t want with everyone pretending like they are not watching. 

So he settle for gently caressing Robbe’s cheek with the back of his knuckles, nuzzling against his jaw, finally looking around them, feeling how Robbe’s hand comes to his shirt, holding it lightly.

“What are we doing tonight?” 

Sander moves his hips to get even closer to Robbe, putting his arm around his neck and Robbe comes closer, lying his head on Sander’s shoulder and just by having him close makes Sander feel so much lighter. 

Before this, before being in a relationship with Robbe, Sander was okay being lonely most of the time. He had friends, sure, but he didn’t mind being alone either. He spent most of his time wondering around the city, watching the architecture, trying to doodle while watching the sky change from blue to soft purples and oranges. 

He used to love it, to be in his own head, to listen to his music and not think about anyone else.

And now he’s here, every second of his life being so much better when he’s living it next to Robbe, sharing everything with him. They even share Bowie now. Sander never thought he would make Robbe like Bowie, but he’s a huge fan now and Sander is very, very proud. He’s a lucky man, the luckiest there is. 

“Senne brought his old video game, we want to try and play. Do you know how to play video game?” Zoe sits up straight so she can look at Sander without Robbe being in her way. 

Sander was focused on playing with Robbe’s hair, kissing his forehead, but he looks at her and Milan answers before he can. 

“What kind of question is that? Who doesn’t know how to play video games? It’s just a bunch of buttons to push.” Milan laughs, pouring some more red wine for the three of them, the bottle is almost empty. 

Robbe isn’t drinking this round, he’s not drinking as much as he used to and Sander didn’t even talk to him about it, it didn’t feel like it was his place. Robbe is still very young and everyone knows how Jens and the boys like to drink and smoke, but he can tell Robbe drinks less when Sander is around. From time to time they share a joint or two late at night. 

But his lips are tinted a darker red than normal, clearly from the wine. Sander smiles at him, wondering if he tastes like red wine too. 

“Yeah! What? It’s not that hard...” Robbe looks around his friends suddenly, frowning with the realization of what they were talking about and Sander smiles. 

“It’s not just pushing some buttons either.” His comment gets Senne’s attention from setting everything up behind the tv. 

“Thank you!” 

“Are we all playing?” Zoe looks around, clearly not feeling like playing video games with her boyfriend and all their boy friends. 

“There’s only two controls, so we’ll have to make teams.” Senne explains, getting up to untangle the wires. Milan exhales loudly and dramatically so everyone can pay attention to him. 

“Now that’s not fair. I’m here, sitting with Zoenne and Sobbe and we’re supposed to make teams?” 

Sander doesn’t argue with that, holding Robbe as close as possible, not wiling to make any other team, ever. 

“As if I’m not the mistress here. You and Senne are probably sleeping together behind my back.” 

Robbe is the one to start with the ooooh, looking at the others, watching with Sander as Milan shakes his shoulders a little bit, raising his eyebrows. 

“And behind mine too...” 

“Okay now. Let’s play this stupid game or not?” Robbe finally moves and Senne hands him one of the controls, holding the other while he gives intructions for Zoe to put the tv in the right channel. 

As the other four are back to arguing or trying to explain to each other how this specific game works, Sander puts his hands on the sides of Robbe’s hips, dragging him back to rest against Sander’s chest, putting both his arms around his neck, burying his nose against his warm neck that smells like comfort and home. 

“If we win five rounds, we’re leaving them,” Sander whispers against his jaw and Robbe laughs, leaning against Sander’s face, putting one hand on his forearm, kissing where he can reach, smiling as Sander kisses his cheek, watching him. 

“Let’s win the first five then.”

nobody asked but here are my personal top five pat gill videos | a 2.1k word long post where i rank and review pat gill’s videos for just way too long.

Right around the tail end of April, 2020, I fell into the rabbit hole of my current obsession; Polygon Dot Com Video Content. As a consequence of this was being introduced to the phenomenon of Pat Gill. A dire consequence of that consequence was me slowly, deeply, irrevocably, finding myself attracted to this marionette of a man. So, I enjoy his content and I think he’s hot and that combined with the fact that some of my friends bully me over that latter fact has inspired me to do this: rank my personal favorite Pat Gill videos in a post that’s entirely too long.

Before I get straight into the rankings, I need to explain my process. 

First, I needed to narrow my scope. Polygon has a lot of videos. Polygon has a lot of videos with Pat Gill in them. If I didn’t narrow my scope, I would either go bonkers yonkers or have a list that would be kilometric in length and thus miss the entire point of ranking altogether. So, for my sanity, I am excluding any videos that are a part of a Polygon video series. This means no Overboard, no Gill and Gilbert, no Video Game Theatre, etc. If I included these, I would cry. I do not want to cry over Polygon Dot Com Video Producer Pat Gill.

Second, I need a criteria. If I just ranked videos with no system, I would find myself endlessly rearranging my list based on whatever thought comes out on top in my mind at the given moment. I am a disorganized person, so I need rules. I have decided that I will rank Pat Gill videos using the EEEH criteria. 

Entertainment. Do I smile, watching the video? Do I chortle? Am I filled with the embarrassing urge to show this video to my sister and derive glee from her laughing at the exact same moment I laughed? Entertainment is key.

Education. Did I come out of this video knowing something I originally did not know? More importantly, was I engaged in the learning process? I come from a family of teachers, so I have high standards when it comes to education. If I am to learn, I must learn well.

Exaltation. This is a bit of an oddball criteria, but it is important to me. The word “exalted” is defined as “elevated in rank, character, or status.” This criteria refers to how good it is at exalting, elevating, pulling me out of a depressive episode. That is to say I’ve been in a depressive episode for the past month and whether or not the video made me stop crying and brush my teeth is essential. Polygon video content has been integral to my serotonin production lately, and thus the video’s ability of acting as an audiovisual antidepressant for me factors into the rankings.

[BONUS POINTS] Hotness. How Hot Is Pat Gill In It? I felt bad, morally, ranking videos based on how good looking I thought Pat Gill was in it---because beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and all that, and people don’t exist to be beautiful, they just are, and I agree---so I’m relegating this criteria as a bonus point. Standard is 0, because he’s always hot in my mind, but he gets plus points if he is exemplary in the hotness department.

The maximum score for each of these criteria is 5 points, making the perfect score a 15, but because of the bonus points, a 20 is, hypothetically, possible. 

With that out of the way, let me dive right into it. 

5. The fastest interview ever with Ben Schwartz from Sonic the Hedgehog

Entertainment: 5 Education: 2 Exaltation: 2 Hotness: +2 Total Score: 11

Pat Gill is a good interviewer, he’s engaging and fun and keeps the interview interesting, but this interview is particularly special because it seems that, and let me quote Youtube user AudreyN who left a comment on this video stating “ben schwartz consumed all seven chaos emeralds prior to this interview.” Pat Gill and Ben Schwartz’s dynamic is amazing, and by “dynamic” I do mean “Ben Schwartz absolutely just fucking dunking on Pat Gill for 14 entire minutes.” and it is glorious.

For Entertainment this scores a solid 5. Quite honestly the funniest interview I’ve ever watched in my entire life. Just the sheer beauty in the exchange [Pat] “You would use Sonic’s power to gaslight me?” [Ben] “Just you.” In terms of Education, I guess I did learn a bunch of things about the Sonic movie that I didn’t know before, but the avenue by which it was portrayed in was not exactly the most engaging, more like I was absorbing it via watching two experts discuss on a webinar. I would have given just 1 point to Education but I made it 2 because of the wonderful knowledge that Pat Gill can draw a pretty good Sonic in a few seconds. When it comes to Exaltation, I must admit that while this video got quite a few laughs out of me, it didn’t make me want to get out of bed and take a shower. 

BONUS: Pat is +2 hot in it. His short hair makes him look very handsome. He’s a spiffy boy, in this video. Very, very good.  

4. Pat Will Not Tweet at Nintendo This Week Because He is Resting at Home — PLEASE RETWEET, Episode 12 

Entertainment: 5 Education: 0 Exaltation: 5 Hotness: +1 Total Score: 11

I know I’m breaking a rule I set for myself a few paragraphs earlier by including an episode of Please Retweet, which counts as a video series, but this is my post and I can do whatever I want. More importantly, this video is so fucking funny to me, it feels like it would be a crime not to put it in this list. 

Solid 5 out of 5 for entertainment. Pat Gill, alone in his apartment, drinking six cans of what I think is beer silently while the intro music plays. That scene in itself should win an Oscar. Sadly, a solid 0 for Education, because I learn nothing in this video except for the fact that Pat Gill is the type of person to put out a coaster and then just completely not use it. I quantify things as educational if I can maybe answer a trivia question with them, and unfortunately, this fact does not pass that test. In terms of Exaltation, seeing Pat Gill lie down on the floor next to his cat made me get out of bed to do the same with my dog, and with myself thusly out of my bed cocoon of sadness, I was able to actually complete tasks on the day I watched this video. Perfect 5.

BONUS: Pat is +1 hot in this because there’s something very beautiful about him being a little bit miserable. However, I do miss his beard when I watch this video. It is one of my favorite things about him, and it is not present here.

3. Pat and Simone Play Human: Fall Flat

Entertainment: 5 Education: 1 Exaltation: 5 Hotness: 0 Total Score: 11

I very much enjoy Polygon’s gameplay streams. I often play them in the background while I’m doing other stuff like doodling or origami, but this stream is special. It is special because of the moment at 24:00 when Pat Gill, in game, swings a stereo into a glass window, shattering it, while saying, “Actually, y’know what? Let’s talk about trauma.” and then proceeds to tell a horrible and embarrassing story from his childhood where he had to do a rap about Ancient Egypt. 

5 points for Entertainment. This is partly because of Pat’s tragic childhood story about the Egypt Rap (and, segue just to point out 33:22 the incredible moment where you can hear Pat’s feral panic when Simone finds the lyrics to the Egypt Rap) but also because Pat and Simone just talking to each other is so deeply entertaining to me in a very comfy way. I’m starved for human interaction, in this quarantime, okay. Let me enjoy listening to other people have conversations while playing video games. Education scores a 1 because, again, nothing in this video will let me answer a trivia question, however it does get 1 point and not a 0 because the Egypt Rap’s lyrics are in the comments and I did end up learning stuff about Ancient Egypt that I didn’t know. A perfect 5 for Exaltation because this video showed me that talking about trauma can actually be cathartic, given that you’re trashing a video game living room at the same time, and I think that message of not bottling up your experiences really helped me, in these trying times.

BONUS: Pat Gill is not visible for the entirety of this episode, so he scores the standard 0. I’m sure he was hot. We just couldn’t see him.  

2. Why Bloodborne and Muppets are the same thing

Entertainment: 4 Education: 4 Exaltation: 3 Hotness: +2 Total Score: 12

Ah yes, one of Pat’s “x is y because of z” videos. He’s made a number of these and they’re all very good but this one is my favorite among them and earns a spot on this list because 1) I think puppets are cool and 2) I fucking love monsters. 

This video scores a 4 on Entertainment, just shy of perfect, because as funny as it is, it also gives me the vibe like I am being lectured by a professor who’s just a little bit off the shits. And we all know that lectures are supposed to be taken seriously. Which brings us to Education, which also scores a 4. I learned a lot in this video! Watching Pat Gill explain to me that children’s puppets and these horrifying viddy game monsters use the same character principles in different ways is not only very educational but is also explained in a streamline and easy to understand manner that I WISH some of the shitty professors at my old university could emulate. As for Exaltation, while this video did give me enough energy to have a meal, I did eventually end up back in bed for the night at 8pm crying myself to sleep, thinking “I’m like the slime scholar. Used to be a scholar. Now they’re slime.” 

BONUS: Pat Gill is +2 hot here. He’s rockin that basic ass monochromatic aesthetic and I love his look dearly. 

1. Preparing for Big Boy Season in Red Dead Redemption 2 

Entertainment: 5 Education: 3 Exaltation: 5 Hotness: +3 Total Score: 16

Here we are. My favorite non video series Pat Gill video. The video where Pat Gill tries to make Red Dead Redemption 2 protagonist, Arthur Morgan, large. 

Perfect fucking 5 for Entertainment, which I’m sure many may find odd. Afterall, this video is told in a serious investigative tone reminiscent of Vox’s videos on current issues. But that’s the glory of it. The complete and utter ‘playing it straight and serious’ for a ridiculous issue in a video game. It is high tier comedy in a subtle, understated way that sings to my comedy loving heart in a melody so lovely, so wonderful, that it urged me to give this video 5 points for Entertainment. It scores 3 on Education, because I have never played Red Dead Redemption 2, nor will I ever, but now I know things about it. The information was also relayed to me in a very interesting style, via something like a crime procedural, and thus it was engaging for me to absorb all this new knowledge. Exaltation scores a perfect 5 because of this video’s beautiful end about existential smallness. No joke, but hearing Pat Gill say “Our bigness isn’t measured in pounds, but in the impact we have on the people with whom we shared the world.” deadass made me want to talk to my friends again after conversationally isolating myself for 3 days. Preparing for Big Boy Season has a special place in my heart. And there it will stay.

BONUS: Pat Gill is not visible for most of the video but he does appear for like 15 seconds in the middle of it, and guess what. He’s hot. +3 hotness. Good beardage, good hair, all in all, good Pat Gill.
