CHARLIE

Honestly I can see Charlie herself being somewhere on the spectrum! So she can relate to you in some way when you're having some struggles. Shes so so accommodating when it comes to your needs, quite literally bending over backwards to make sure the hotel is a safe space for you. Theres likely a sensory room somewhere in the hotel, where you (or really anyone!) Can go to unwind and just vibe. Protective of you, as she is with everyone else she cares about. You.. may have to get her to cool it if things get a little too heated. Warm and smells like apple pie, and I dont know about you guys but that's possibly one of the most pleasing and calming combos

VAGGIE

Very quick to shut things down if someone tries to get on your case for your needs for whatever reason, same goes for anyone who does it without intending to be harmful/doing it unknowingly. Shes your guard dog, and shes going to make sure you're safe mentally and physically. Likely stands trying to choose between different fidgets to pack for an outing trying to determine which one might come more in handy. Packs both. Actually she definitely has a pack somewhere for you that has a bunch of items to carry on you to help you out (water, headphones, ect ect). Despite that she does think you're capable and will step back if her worries cause her to overstep and make you feel bad. Vaggie does tend to have trouble gauging how much effort and feeling into things

ALASTOR

In the nicest way possible, he does not care. Obviously he doesn't care in the "I dont care that you're ND and I'm not going to avoid doing things that trigger you", it's a "I dont care because it is what it is", and besides hes got manners! Sometimes the static ambience around him can be comforting, like white noise.. sometimes he hums or softly plays music if you need something to focus on during an overwhelming moment. However if it makes things worse it's getting cut the second you say something. You're the only person allowed into his radio tower, if you need an escape

LUCIFER

As stated above I headcanon that Charlie is somewhere in the spectrum so he already has an idea of what to do to make things easier and more welcoming for you! Thankfully his home isnt too chaotic and he doesnt usually switch up his routine so if routines mean a lot for you Lucifer is your man! Puts his crafting skills to good use and makes you personalized fidget toys! He loves talking to you but if you need him to be quiet for a while he'll be understanding and work quietly on his ducks. Similarly to his daughter he doesnt let anyone try to make you feel bad for trying to tend to your needs. Though hes less of a pushover/holds his temper a little easier than charlie, but hes still quick to shut anything down

ADAM

In the beginning he can be a little.... how does one say this nicely? Not the best.. hes not at all educated so you're probably going to have to sit him down and find a way to get him to listen. Hes a little misguided when it comes to helping you moving forward but there is a new added effort in there. Takes you away from environments that are too overwhelming for you, or tells everyone to shut the hell up.. which might make things worse thanks to his shouting. He's got the spirit but his methods are not the best. His wings are soft and as long as you dont pluck anything out, he let's you run your fingers through his feathers. Would get sucked into those sensory and/or asmr videos with you

LUTE

I can see her being on the spectrum too tbh but I dont think shes aware, so anytime you try to bring up the possibility of her being ND she kind of just dismisses it. "Everyone does that," mindset. While she doesnt totally understand all of your habits and needs, she still does her best to make sure you're satisfied. She can be callous with others, often causing conflict to those who choose not to listen to an exterminator.. though to heavens citizens what status to exterminators have..? Shrugs. Shes a little.. tense? Harsh? No harsh sounds mean. Shes not used to being tender for someone else, so this is all a learning process for her.. its going to take a while before she grows accustomed to you autism or not.. but shes trying, because she does love you even if shes not used to these feelings!

Why Alastor is good aroace rep after all, written by an aroace

Hello all! I just want to start off this post by saying that I'm one person who definitely doesn't speak for all aroaces, but I wanted to make a post on this anyway, and maybe some folk would be interested in hearing out another perspective?

I'm not really caught up on everything that's been said over the course of HH's creation - only more recent interviews, since I'm pretty new to the fandom. Apologies if I've missed anything, but also I do not have the time to keep up with all the out-of-canon-material backstory unfortunately. I'm working with what we've got here.

So here's the thing:

Alastor is cruel, he's narcissistic, he doesn't care about anyone except himself, he's a serial killer and a monster.

(That's the argument I've heard - please tell me if that's not really what people are going for lol, in which case I've totally misunderstood?)

The issue with aroace rep when it paints asexual people with those traits is that it aims to dehumanizes them. Sex and love are essential to the human experience, right? So why wouldn't someone be interested? Because they're self-absorbed, and cold, and detached. They don't have the capacity to love others enough to feel romance.

And sure, Alastor is a killer, and a schemer, and prideful, and a monster by hell's standards. But no matter how above it all and stylish and in control and provocative he wants to be, he's a very human character, and his aroace-ness never serves to add to his alienation. You could even say that it makes him seem even more personable.

That's what I think is the key difference.

why he's human

Alastor's whole persona is about control, and he basically straight-up says this. He's controlling what his enemies know, what his public image is like. His goal is to be the Radio Demon -- overlord of Hell, charismatic, Machiavellian, and undefeatable. He's not. Despite that smile plastered over his face (a powerful tool, huh) he's so expressive for someone who's constantly pretending.

You see his exasperation with the Egg Bois and with Charlie's ranting; his nervousness in front of Zestial; his frustration with Lucifer and the petty lengths he goes to to piss off the ruler of Hell.

You see his desperation, making that deal with Charlie. He's surprised by the idea of being vulnerable in front of an enemy like Adam, and so close to danger. He drops the radio filter and the affect out of fear, and runs on broadcast TV to let out panic and anger and bitterness in his hideout, where no one else can see him.

He has a smile that tells us he's genuinely happy to see someone; it's a little wider than his default. You see it with Mimzy's greeting, you see it with Rosie. Rosie, especially, serves to make Alastor more human to the audience. More on this later, but for now, I'm just saying that you can see that he at least seems to respect her greatly. Whatever bond they have, we know that he trusts her to touch him, to share history with him, and with support that he trusts no one else for.

He pretends, but he can't pretend it all away. Loads of these emotions aren't even advantageous for him to show. It isn't necessarily how the typical asexual psychopath acts; he's not emotionless or only capable of anger or brutality.

He's so full of emotion that it leaks through, despite all that he does to avoid it. He's not inhuman and aloof, not really - he's so, so human, even when he tries not to be because he thinks that'll be what keeps him above all the rest. In control, and free from his chains.

how the aroace part contributes to that

Now, to be fair, we don't hear much about his aroaceness in canon. It's just not relevant a lot of the time.

In the pilot, Angel's proposition ruffles his feathers so much that Alastor blanks for a moment. It's a joke, sure, but that ace panic face is a pretty popular Alastor moment in the fandom - Alastor, thrown off-balance by a sex joke of all things, after so many years in Hell that he should probably be used to this.

It's a moment that makes him more approachable; his aroaceness shows him unprepared for something someone else does for one of the only real moments in the whole episode.

And the other part: the ace in the hole statement.

Rosie apparently knows Alastor so well that she read that he's aroace. That tells us about their relationship; namely, that it is long-standing and genuine enough that she gleaned a piece of real information from him. It's a casual fact that she knows about him before he even figured it out himself. It lends legitimacy to their bond - this bond that shows us a more comfortable and warm side of Alastor that we don't often see.

If their relationship is purely business, isn't this something pretty frivolous and personal? It's not like he has anything to gain by telling her about his life, but she learned about it somehow. How close are they? That's where it adds a layer of complexity and personality to his character..

thoughts on representation

Overall, Alastor's an interesting character who has a level of depth and care and personality (outside of cruelty) that asexual psychopath tropes lack. Again, the moments where he's being represented as disinterested in sex or romance don't make him seem detached. Again, they don't say "look how hostile toward relationships his behaviour is - how separate he is from our humanity". That's what bad villain ace rep is. That's not what the show's doing.

Also: I'm not saying that we need to lower our standards or anything, but even if you think it's not the best rep, I feel like we should be supporting HH's efforts here. I know that on Tumblr we have a pretty queer-friendly space going, which is honestly an understatement lol but

Aces are incredibly underrepresented in fiction. There's a whole Wikipedia page about asexual characters in media, and it's short as all hell, and even if you consider what's on there you see quite a number of one-off characters who are never mentioned again.

In terms of real life business - before the DSM updated their definition of hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in 2013, identifying as asexual wasn't even a recognized thing. If you talked to a clinician about your lack of sexual desire, you could be diagnosed with a disorder. Only in the 5th edition do we now have a little exclusion footnote about it.

The concept of asexuality hasn't been explored nearly as much as other queer identities in our scientific research. We get crumbs in terms of mainstream representation and understanding. House M.D. has an episode where House "disproves" us because he's just so smart.

Alastor isn't going to be perfect representation. There's no such thing as perfect representation, and from the moment he was conceptualized, you could see how people would take him poorly. Still, I think he's a net positive.

He isn't a side character or a token ace - he's a core part of the show, whose personality and character motivations we can reasonably presume are going to be explored much more deeply in upcoming season(s). He's loved by the fandom. Right now, given what we know, I trust Vivziepop to write the aroace representation he deserves, because with the way I've heard the cast/directing/etc. talk about him, they're trying to do the aroace community justice, so I wish people would let up just a little on the whole "Alastor is bad rep".

Let's give him a chance, all right?

So new a new batch of cards just dropped for HH, and still no word about the playbills. It's been a long time since the last update and even longer since people bought them. At this point I don't think people are ever getting them. I saw a post talking about how someone went to a con and a staff member just had the playbills on their desk. So they are real just not real for the people who bought them. The real lucky part I'd I don't know if people can really get a refund on it. The rest of the package was sent, and people did get them. It's just the playbills that haven't come, which was one of the main reasons people bought the $70 package. If they try to get a refund imo they'll either get rejected or only get partial. Just kind of sad that no one is addressing it. Viv may not have any direct power over it but come on, not even 1 post saying sorry? That would help so much, but again it would make her look bad and she can't have anyone dirty her image.

Also those new cards......the shipping cost.....just wtf. I saw someone's shipping be $79. You would think at this point they would have something for international shipping, but I guess not. HB and HH have proper business practices? Pfft never.

Wouldn't even be the first time she's done this. Back during the stolen Alastor pin incident, she specifically avoided saying anything because she thought it would make her look bad.

Also, despite the fact that Viv "doesn't comfortable" about this happening, she's continued to steal fanart and avoid crediting people. The pitch sheets for Hazbin were covered in stolen fanart.

What future conflicts do you see happening with Chaggie? Personally, I think it would continue with their whole "Charlie doesn't listen and Vaggie doesn't express herself" issues they had in S1. Plus, the whole trusting Alastor thing might come up. Your predictions?

I personally really want Lute to have a role. Charlie seems to hate her even more than Vaggie after the angel reveal. And I think Vaggie will totally be here for this rivalry XD she may have to keep Charlie from killing Lute! A role for Emily in Lute’s possible redemption would be a great addition as they model Chaggie perfectly. Or maybe even Adam’s redemption (I’m convinced he’s coming back as a sinner - his vocals and lines are too great he has to come back). I remain convinced that Vaggie and Lute were frenemies and/or lovers for centuries.

The Alastor stuff is definitely important and will cause conflict for sure. I’m thinking Lilith is involved too (both her and Alastor have been gone for seven years…). I could see Vox getting involved and publicizing Vaggie’s genocidal past and Charlie comforting her.

alas i got sidetracked. Back to Chaggie! I really hope they address their codependency, and Charlie's tendency to steamroll Vaggie… she needs to actually listen to her girlfriend and notice when she is uncomfortable and will need to learn to push a bit more when Vaggie is uncomfortable to make her express herself. Vaggie is one of a few main characters who we have NOT seen cry. She REALLY needs to XD maybe Rosie can be a couple's therapist?

also now that season 3 and 4 are confirmed, im betting on a Chaggie engagement season 2. And if they dont have some down time to have an on screen date or fooling around time imma blow up the studio (no not really). I love that they are established and not the centerpoint of the season - this helps normalize gay relationships. But I also have needs XD maybe Charlie had to wait for Lucifer to come back in her life before she could officially get engaged as queen of hell. Future queens of hell 🥰 this will also likely not go over well in heaven or hell after Vaggie’s exorcist past…

Also… thank goodness Vivi isn’t in charge of writing anymore as she has Satan kill Vaggie after they are engaged and I will kill everyone if this happens

Bonus headcanons (some are stolen):

- Vaggie’s wings come out when she’s aroused - stiffly XD I think they will transition from gray to silver over time as she redeems herself further

- Vaggie and Lute stand trial for crimes by the seraphim. Vaggie is absolved of her disobedience and halo and eye restored (or maybe a weird glowy version so she still keeps her eye patch most of the time). She never wears the halo but it lets her open portals to heaven and hell. Lute is cast out of heaven for killing a member of Lucifer’s family (Dazzle) and attacking them and her vigilante justice on Vaggie. She may lose her wings and an eye too. She will still have one arm as she does not love anyone to restore it (Vaggie’s wings grow back out of love for Charlie and because they weren’t cut off by angelic steel. Lute ripped her arm off and it can also grow back.. if she learns to love).

- Vaggie hides her wings 90% of the time because she’s ashamed of her past (I’d LOVE a B plot episode where Angel Dust helps her with this)

- Charlie is super embarrassed when she demons out when Vaggie teases her publicly (always subtle until Charlie ruins it)

- Vaggie and Nifty bond over shared violence

- They go on flying dates where Vaggie carries Charlie and she loves it. Sometimes Lucifer joins.

- Charlie has picked up stabby Vaggie on several occasions and walked away with her to avoid conflict

- Vaggie’s spear is an emotional support spear and she talks to it and Charlie is jealous and has tried to hide it

- Vaggie spends Sunday dinners with Carmella and her daughters and is basically adopted and Charlie is jealous but also really happy that Vaggie is making her own friends

- Charlie loves when Vaggie speaks Spanish in bed - I also love the theories that they keep ruining beds with Charlie’s horns XD

- EVERYONE has heard them having sex - Charlie is LOUD and sometimes sings + Vaggie avoids Angel Dust the week after particularly loud sessions

- Charlie will propose after a very awkward convo with Lucifer

- Vaggie eventually bonds with sinner Adam and maybe Lute too

- I have an aversion to pregnancy and children but some of the kid theories are cute and Vaggie seems to be the more feminine but I could actually see Charlie carrying 😉😇

i genuinely hate how the only plus size/ fat rep in both shows is given to either BG characters viv wasn't involved in or just the "evil guys". you cannot tell me that woman has any respect for plus sized people at all.. she enforces harmful stereotypes and outright refuses to add ANY diversity to her characters (the "i'm afraid to draw muscles" bs for example)

• literally how can you make the embodiment of gluttony not at least a little bit chubby?? she literally can summon all types of foods & drinks?? thats her entire thing?? she is built like a kardashian.. how. if you're gonna depict the main two fat ppl in your shows as food addicted a-holes why not stay consistent (impossible for her)

•both main fat characters (adam, mammon) are always seen eating unhealthy stuff in masses. a very harmful stereotype. and also adding to the stigma plus sized ppl face on a daily basis.

•not to mention the constant fat "jokes" directed at moxxie, which are a) unnecessary and b) blatantly wrong?? moxxie isn't even fat?? and even then its always implied fat people are fat because they can't stop eating or only eat junk food, like blitz telling moxxie to eat a salad. or loona.

• husk. that man literally consumes alcohol like it's water and he doesn't have an alcohol belly??? hello??? thats...not avoidable when you're an alcoholic... SAME FOR VEROSIKA.

•the mammon & fizz bs. a fat character telling an already skinny person they're "chungo?" and he should lose weight cause people find it sexy af? and its outright implied its bad behavior? she's just immensly hypocritical with this. loona & blitz said similar things towards moxxie but there it's funny & acceptable? f off.

•mimzy is the only fat character that she designed that is close to the HH main cast and she's also portrayed as a shitty person. every fat character is a shitty person and called out for it.(adam with charlie, mammon with fizz, and mimzie with alastor) everyone else literally looks the same and is equally shitty as a person but is never called out because its her blorbos.

but we're talking about the woman who turned st. peter into a blue eyes, blone haired anime twink and refuses to draw BIPOC- or any diversity for that matter....

Saw people talking about how they got into adamsapple and my HH relationship was weird, so I figured I'd give my personal journey. Because at first, I didn't care about the pilot, and then at some point I started despising every hint of the series (including helluva) that I saw. Like, I had every reference to it blocked, fully and totally blocked. Then HH finally premiered on Amazon and I still avoided it for awhile.

Eventually I was like okay fine let's give this another shot, I can change my opinion with more information. First episode and I'm already like eh I don't like musicals v much tbh, so I skipped songs. I actually started to skip hell is forever, and ended up partway through it and went wait oh I like this one actually. My first run of the series I skipped all but 3 songs (I did eventually watch them all on a second watch lmao)

But I enjoyed it overall, more than I expected to, and then the season was over. My first ship was staticradio, and that was most of my thoughts following the ending. I mentioned a few things online, and someone on my private Twitter commented something about wonderingabout if Adam could come back, and I was immediately like nah plus I didn't even like Adam at the time. Literally, did not care. Then they said something about him coming back would be interesting, given his history with Lucifer

And it unlocked something in my head like sleeper agent. I just instantly went insane.

You ever have a moment where you reconsider something you thought a lot about in the past but then sort of turned your attention away from for a while, and your new perspective just blows the whole thing open?

Me thinking about russ and magnus during ATS/PB today after years of taking a break from HH/40K lore yielded one such series of revelations.

I was thinking about Betrayer and Russ' attempt to give Angron a lesson via the Night of the Wolf. I was thinking about Prospero Burns and Russ' belief that he's had a direct line to Magnus this whole time via Kaspar. I was thinking about that 'please'. And.

I know this is pretty much canon to the text but I've never before really Considered that one of Russ' motives in keeping this guy alive and sending him out on compliances with his Legion was (Russ believed at least) letting Magnus see the SW in action and hoping that this might influence him into trying to Avoid doing anything that might cause Russ to be sent after him.

In the past I've talked a lot about the SW keeping Kaspar around to see what would happen in terms of thinking the TS were up to something or going to do something to the Legion, which is very much the assumption the Chaos entity wanted them to make, but looking back I tbh think i slept on the concept of Russ, who canonically has taken out at least one of the Lost Primarchs in an event which is prefers not to speak (or at least the codex Strongly Implies that Russ has been used against another primarch before), and who also canonically went into the Night of the Wolf fully willing to die to make his point to Angron if only Angron could understand what he was doing.

I'm sort of compelled by the concept because in a sense Russ was letting (what he thought was) Magnus take a peek behind the barbarian mask he likes to put on, to see into a more genuine heart of his legion, letting his guard down a bit by allowing this obviously-compromised spy in. Much the same way he let the mask drop when he went to try and talk some sense into Angron, bringing up philosophy and reading and ideals that Russ' ignorant-but-noble barbarian persona would never admit to being interested in let alone reading.

And both times the gambit failed, in Magnus' case because it wasn't Magnus on the other end of the line, and in Angron's case because he was too far gone to really get what Russ was illustrating for him.

The whole thing was orchestrated so well, ironically giving the "proof" that Magnus was up to something via this sleeper agent spy that the SW were toting around with them, playing on Russ being curious enough to keep this guy around and connect the dots on the (false) links between this guy and the TS. I have this headcanon that Russ and Lorgar were actually fairly close, with Russ actually talking to Lorgar about Lorgar's writings, because he didn't seem surprised that Russ had read them and had thoughts on them in Betrayer, so I actually sort of like the idea that he had a hand in setting up the fall of Prospero? I like the tragedy of the idea that he at least had some input on the idea, being familiar enough with Russ to know he'd take the bait.

Which would make that a third time Russ got genuine with someone and had it either fail or be used against him...

Lucifer had never really liked meetings.

With the Sins, they always ended with someone trying to tear Mammon's head off. He avoided meetings with Paimon like the plague and had only met with the reigning Overlords twice in his lifetime. In fact, Zestial was the only remaining Overlord he had known from before.

This was the second time he had called for a meeting at the hotel, and he sincerely hoped it would be the last.

He heard a voice that sounded like Roo telling him that it would be.

Speaking of the Root of Evil, she hadn't shown herself to him in a while. Perhaps she was saving her strength for when she escaped upon his death. Not if, but when.

Lucifer leaned back in his chair that creaks slightly under his weight. It should bother him how he talks about his death so casually—denial, maybe? It wasn't indifference because that would mean he was giving up. It scared him a bit that this was what humans called 'making peace' with the inevitable. Just a few months ago, he didn't have an inevitable.

The Overlords filtered in less than an hour later. The hotel lobby was dimly lit with the sinners' shadows dancing along the walls as they enter. He observed them in silence from his makeshift throne in the middle of the room while they gave him polite bows before moving to find their seats.

The door swung open one last time, and Vox entered, alone. His usual entourage of sycophants was absent. The demon hesitated for a moment under Lucifer's gaze, then quickly found a seat at the far end of the table.

The King of Hell raised an eyebrow at that. Vox caught his eye, his whole demeanour shrinking under the intense stare.

Lucifer: Will your troublesome colleague be joining us?

Vox flinched slightly, glancing nervously around the room.

Vox: I- Velvette is not in the best... mental state to be in your presence. Your Majesty.

He stammered, hastily adding the honorific, hoping the King hadn't caught his initial hesitation.

Lucifer: How about you?

Vox: H-how about me, my King?

Lucifer: No trouble from you, I hope?

Lucifer's tone was deceptively calm, but the threat was clear.

The media demon bit his lip, feeling a wave of shame wash over him. He had never felt so humiliated in front of the other Overlords, especially not in front of Alastor. But he knew he stood no chance against the literal Devil. Valentino was practically dead, rendered powerless, and Velvette was too traumatized to even approach the King. Vox swallowed his pride, keeping his gaze fixed on the ground, avoiding eye contact with anyone.

Vox: No, Your Majesty.

Lucifer hums in satisfaction.

Lucifer: Good. Since you are all here now. Shall we begin?

The room fell silent as Lucifer's gaze swept over the assembled Overlords. He began laying out the agenda, his voice commanding and cold.

Lucifer: Hell has found itself caught in the crossfire of Heaven's civil war, and what you're witnessing now is the result of that conflict.

He saw the Overlords' eyes widen in shock, but no one interrupted him.

Lucifer: The plan the Sins and I devised was abandoned the moment our systems were hit. Currently, we have no means of communication with the lower rings. And yes I have tried to create a portal to them but my powers are not letting me.

He responded as soon as he saw a hand raised.

Lucifer: So this is the plan.

Flames erupted on the table, causing everyone to jump back. The fire danced until it morphed into miniature flaming figures of angels and demons.

Lucifer:We are going on the defensive. When the chaos up there descends here, we will only act to protect ourselves. This means no attacking unless they attack us first. This war is between the people of Heaven, and unfortunately, Hell is the collateral damage.

He looked into Charlie's worried eyes, remembering what he was fighting for. He wanted nothing more than to take her far away from the impending carnage, but he knew that Charlie would rather die protecting her people than run away.

'That's not Lilith and I raised her.'

Lucifer had never been more proud of his daughter.

Lucifer: Our goal is to keep ourselves alive until they kill each other.

Carmilla: Pardon my rude interruption, my King.

Carmilla waited for his nod of approval before continuing.

Carmilla: Would it not be better to take the initiative and attack first? As you said, the war is between them. If we strike first, they won't expect it. We might come out with less damage to the Ring that way.

Lucifer: We're exhausted. Roo was not that long ago; we’re too fragile to start another fight. So we save our strength until the last possible moment.

A tense silence filled the room as everyone contemplated Lucifer's words. The flames on the table flickered, casting eerie shadows on their faces. The miniature figures of angels and demons seemed to mock their indecision, frozen in a never-ending battle. The air was thick with the smell of sulfur and the heavy tension of Hell's uncertain future.

Alastor stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with a mix of bloodlust and excitement. Because of course the psycho would find this exciting.

Alastor: And when they do, my King?

Lucifer: They may think of this place as just their playground, but this is our turf. So show them what real Hell looks like.

Lucifer gives them a smirk.

Lucifer: That's an order from your King.

The Overlords nodded, their expressions hardening with determination. The weight of his words settled over them like a shroud, and a renewed sense of purpose seemed to ignite within them all.

Suddenly, the heavy doors burst open, and a Cannibal Demon stumbled in, eyes wide with terror.

Cannibal Demon: Madame Rosie! Come quick! The-the bodies! The bodies are— They’re attacking everyone!

Hazbin Hotel - Rewatch Thoughts (Episode 1, Part 2)

Charlie kicks into song #1, “Happy Day in Hell,” and KeeKee is just kind of floating in the air listening along with all the rest.  Just an observation.

Okay, so some of the stuff we see in Hell: one very dead ant/praying mantis looking demon, some actually not *that* kinky sex (guys, we’re on AO3… if you know you know), and a slew of dead bodies in the road.  I assume those are fresh kills and not leftovers from last week’s extermination – though maybe?  They smell awful and have flies, which means the dudes picking up corpses in the Pilot are very inefficient at their job.

Real talk about the barbed-wire pair – what’s the status on Sinner/Imp relationships?

 Because in HB we kind of see some of the social stigma of, say, a Goetia prince and an imp.  Though there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of noise about a Sin and an imp – probably because everyone is way too distracted by Lust falling in love.  And with a Sin and a hellhound, it is telling that the party is populated by imps and hounds exclusively….

We do get an imp and a sinner making out in the music video Addict (the ladies with Valentino) but that strikes me a bit more as “someone told Valentino that lesbians making out was hot and he said “Yeah, sure.”

Anyhow.

I feel like when Charlie hops up on the car we get our first real core philosophical discussion here.  “If I can show them the dream I’ve dreamed, that anyone can change.”  This is *optimism.*  This is highly simplistic so we as first-time viewers of the show can understand Charlie’s personality and motivation.

This is not realistic.

Vivianne did a livestream where she talked about just this idea and that part of the conflict is that maybe not everyone can be redeemed.  Are we holding out high hopes for the loan sharks that came to the hotel with a battering ram in episode 5?  The skeezy sharks that tried to date-rape Angel in episode 4?  *Valentino?*

(That last one actually wouldn’t surprise me that much if they tried it, but also how?  If HH pulls it off and genuinely manages to redeem the most universally hated character in the show, I will be impressed.)

Some people don’t want to change their ways and be redeemed.  Others may have done things so horrific that it’s hard to imagine them being able to truly change their ways and move forward with the rest of their existence.  There’s a sliding scale of what is and isn’t forgivable, and VM said herself that the scale is very person-to-person and it’s something the series will struggle with.

“But I do think there are certain things, you know, to me, from my perspective, that I feel like are irredeemable and, you know, when that line is crossed, I’m like ‘that can’t be uncrossed.’”

Counterpoint to Charlie’s singing, Vaggie starts talking about the angels.  She’s 10,000% convinced that this isn’t going to work, and at this point in the show first-time watchers are just nodding along.

But we know that Vaggie isn’t just repeating anti-angel slander here.  She knows better than anyone in Hell except maybe big Lulu himself what the angels are like because she *was* one.  When she says they’re stubborn, don’t change their minds, are bloodthirsty, she’s talking from hardcore experience.  And specifically exterminator experience.  We only really spend time with Lute as far as the exterminators go, but – as we’ll see later on in this very episode – Vaggie is pretty much hitting the nail on the head describing her own personal knowledge of angels.

Also, it’s worth noting that Vaggie says “those angels,” “they.”  This is partially to avoid spoiling the big reveal later on but also because Vaggie genuinely doesn’t think of herself as an angel anymore.

She no longer has wings.  She’s no longer an exterminator.  She lives in Hell.  She doesn’t have any personal connections – that we’ve seen yet – to anyone in Heaven but has a Hellborn girlfriend.  Vaggie’s life exists in BC and AD in terms of “Before Charlie” and “After Demon [Princess].”  More on this later.

This next part is, to me, where “Happy Day in Hell” cooks.  You sing it, Princess!

So… Travis?  Why???  What is this dude’s deal?  Not even getting into the pilot or Addict videos, but in episode 4 – so actual published show cannon – this guy directs Valentino’s porn.

His literal job is watching porn all day long, live and in 3D.  But he wants to spend his free time watching other porn and getting so randy he’s practically humping the windows?  Me thinks his sins are related to a porn addiction that is very not under control.

Moving on to Cannibal Town, I have a legitimate question.  We’re told that sinners can’t “double-die” unless they take an angelic weapon to the face.  Does that mean that those who are cannibalized in Hell don’t actually die from it? 

And if they won’t die from it, are there people who volunteer to be eaten?  Do the cannibals take turns deciding whose turn it is to eat and whose it is to be eaten?  And then after they’re eaten, do they just respawn?  Is there a lottery system?

It's been a long time since I was in band, but I think the sheet music behind Charlie is actually correct, which is like a super impressive little detail.  Tri-pe-let-hold.  There’s-just-no-way. 

As someone who likes shows where the person “playing” music is so far off of the music that it’s laughable sometimes, it’s just really cool to see.  It probably wouldn’t have been any more – or less – work to just make something up, so there was no reason not to.  But I’ll still give the kudos!

Little detail that cracks me up every time is Husk’s original VA being the flasher Trenchcoat Demon.  “Touch his parts” indeed. 

Sorry, buddy – only certain fluffy spiders get to touch the parts.  Imagine getting told you’re being replaced by Keith David only for them to find a part for you anyway and it’s that.  Mick Lauer must have a great sense of humor.

Without going into too much detail on my job, I actually do a reasonable amount of communication with and visits to embassies in Washington, DC.  Charlie’s experience of walking straight in the front door and ambling around until she finds the reception desk is definitely a suspend your disbelief moment for me. 

I know the whole point is that it’s abandoned and creepy.  But no metal detectors or bag checks?  At least there is a sign in sheet.

Someone pointed this out, but how does Adam eat through his mask?  I know that the ribs are a hologram, but so is Adam, so assumedly the real Adam is eating real ribs up in, like, the atelier off of Sera’s office? 

In episode 6 we later see him drinking through his mask while he’s walking around with Lute, but that’s normal drinking.  This is like he’s shoving the ribs through a rib-stripper that mechanically separates the meat from the bone.  That whirs.

The hologram part of Adam’s presence does seem to be entirely arbitrary, though, based on whether the scene wants him to pull a prank on Charlie or be slightly threatening.  Her hand goes right through him when they go to shake, but later on he is able to grab her wrist and physically move her. 

Is there a button up in Heaven?

Wait… if Adam is a hologram for Charlie, is Charlie also a hologram for Adam?  Is he in full VR like he’s sitting in the Heaven Embassy in Hell, or is he sitting in his own office and just Charlie’s physical presence is being projected?  Or did the design the two rooms to look the same so no one would get lost on where they are?  If Adam moves a chair in Heaven, does an identical chair move in Hell so that if Charlie walks in that exact spot the two images won’t overlap?

I may be thinking too much about this.

We go back to the hotel, where Vaggie wants to create a new commercial. 

I love that Angel can’t be within a few feet of Husk without basically going “the old man… I desire him.”  Poor Husk.  His eye is actually *twitching.*

Notice me not saying anything about the genuinely impossible physics related to another (missing) eye.  So proud of myself.

Alastor creates a new camera for them, and I’m genuinely curious what his thought process is.  The photo camera he makes seems pretty congruous with his time period (aside from some antler decorations), so it seems like he conjures what is familiar for him.  But when he creates the video camera, it includes an eye and even eyelashes. 

I wonder if this might be related to some part of his backstory with Vox.  We know that Vox has cameras set up all over the place and watches people, so maybe Alastor associates video cameras with being watched.

Vaggie films Husk and Angel first, and I love hearing awesome actors act like they’re awful actors.  But this also makes me curious what the storyboard Vaggie has in mind is.  Also, there’s no way Vaggie actually handed Angel a script that said “big, strong daddy.”  She’d die.

I know the “you come” set up the Angel-filthy-moan joke, but it should definitely be “you’ve come” – possibly setting Angel up for a “not yet, baby” joke…  Either Husk really needs the script that close to his nose to read it or the scriptwriter didn’t get good grades in grammar.

Scrub that counter good later, Niffty and/or Husk.  We know where Angel’s *everything* has been.

… I’m not even asking what the skeletons around the bar are from, but one does look like a snake. 

Maybe that’s why Sir Pentious thought they other residents had it out for him.

I’ll get into this more in episode 4, but even this early we can see Angel adopting some of Valentino’s mannerisms  when he’s making passes at Husk.  “Baby-cakes” from the pet called “Angel-cakes” by his own master…. 

I know it’s upsetting you, Husk, but take the lid off the bottle first.

Hi so I actually specifically made this blog so I could talk about this lol. And disclaimer yes I know Hazbin isn’t biblically accurate let me have fun

So the fact that Adam has NO IDEA what gets you into heaven is fascinating to me. Because the apple, which is the entire reason there is a hell at all, was supposed to give them THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL. Like, that’s the whole reason why they weren’t allowed to eat it. Of all people, Adam should know what’s good in the HH universe. The other thing: Adam wears clothes, but he clearly has no shame at all about sex or nakedness or anything of the sort. He’s not the same Adam where he and Eve would be covering themselves in shame for their nakedness.

So either a. WHERE DID THE KNOWLEDGE GO? or b. What did the apple ACTUALLY give them?

And why don’t Sera or Emily know what allows a person to go to heaven either?

I like to think that Lilith and Lucifer still know - and that Lucifer is working on the assumption that all sinners know like they should and Lilith used the knowledge to get into heaven. That’s why I think Lucifer really didn’t like sinners at first, he was like, really? I gave you the knowledge on how to avoid this and you came down anyways? You deserve what you get because you knew what would happen.

And that’s also why I think Adam got into heaven: he messed up, but he was given the knowledge of how to redeem himself before he died. It can’t just be because he was the first man, Lilith was the first woman and got sent to hell anyways. I think Lilith just used her knowledge to get back into heaven after death, instead of before like Adam.

Someone higher than Sera has to be responsible. There may not be a God in the hazbin universe, but there has to be SOMETHING that decides who goes where, and that something or someone seems to have pulled the rug out from under a lot of people.

I also really think it would be interesting if Charlie mentioned to Lucifer that not even Adam or Sera could tell her who goes where and he’s fucking SHOCKED

Hey, I’m asking this because I’m completely lost. I’ve been a fan of Hazbin and Helluva Boss for a really long time, I love talking about and watching the shows, they bring me a lot of happiness, and now I’m really stuck.

I have no clue what I should do. Do you think it’s wrong to keep watching the shows, and why/why not? I really apologize if I’m being insensitive asking this, I just have no clue what to do.

Oh! Don't worry, it is okay to ask! Look, anyone can enjoy anything in multiple ways. You can watch a show, but also you do need to acknowledge its faults and the bad stuff it has. I myself enjoy multiple anime, but I need to get past multiple bad stuff in it. Like in Dragon Ball, specially the start, it's full of Roshi's pervert jokes. I love Dragon Ball and I will always watch it- but I cannot delete those jokes from existence- I need to recognize the bad stuff a piece of media has! I loved Sakura Cardcaptor since I was a kid, but I need to recognize that the manga (the original piece) it's nightmarish when it comes to the whole "LOVE" thing (if you don't know about it, rest easy, my friend).

Again, there is stuff to enjoy in those shows- and I would never call someone a bad person for enjoying it! Even if it's made by shitty people. You can still watch it- but again have an open mind to criticisms of the topics in the shows or how they are made.

Again I like Nifty, Sir Pentious, Mammon, Via, a lot of the art.... It happens. (for another example, I enjoy many aspects of RWBY, besides its big problems it many areas).

The criticism of this thing avoids these events to happen again in other pieces of media (maybe one day it will positively affect HB and HH, if Viv and the crew accepts its problems)!

Personally, I will not support Hazbin thought views, I will not watch it in Amazon Prime.

Again, it does not make you a bad person to enjoy this shows and all the happiness it might've brought you! You can watch it critically! Like many people do, consuming other pieces of media!

But if the shows or its crew become too bad or too uncomfortable for you to watch- then feel free to move on to any other series, movies, fandom! There is pently of indie animation that lacks most or if not all the problems in HB/HH and its creators.

By now it was evening. And Xander had also had a look at the new lot. But as he was about to make his way home, Zelda stopped him short. “Here you are."/ ”Um, yeah? I can't be everywhere… What's going on?"/ ”OK, I know you two've had your problems, but… It would be nice if you could check on Pauline. The pregnancy is really getting to her”.

"You sound like it's my fault"/ "Well, maybe it is you, after all she slept with you AND Hank." Xander reacted annoyed and rolled his eyes "Yeah, thanks for reminding me again"/ "It doesn't matter now. Please, I think it would really do her good to see you. Believe it or not, but she's always talking about you and worrying about her baby..." He took a deep breath.

“Come on, okay? She hasn't had any contact with Hank for a while now…"/ ”And that's supposed to convince me now? Man… I… I was planning to see her anyway. Is there anything… I can do for her? Bring something?”. Zelda smiled, as he seemed to have finally woken up. “hn, she's totally on an onion trip right now, I can't tell you why, probably the hormones"/ ”Onions? Unusual… O.K.”.

Xander had often thought about Pauline in the last few days. Of course he would like to know how she was really doing. And he remembered some of the conversations he'd had with her. She didn't want children, at least not so quickly. Maybe that's why she's not doing so well. “Do you like onions?"/ ‘eww, no, they always make your mouth stink’/ ‘hm, one likes them, the other doesn't’.

Xander was really willing to bring an onion for Pauline. But unfortunately there were none today. Instead, he took something else that he thought she might like. On his way home, he passed his parents' house. He stopped for a moment, but didn't look over. And his path not only led past his former home, but also past the small hospital.

As he walked past the tent, he saw Pauline standing in the entrance. That made him a little suspicious. What was she doing here so late? He hesitated for a moment, but then he went up to her. She was a little surprised when she saw him. “What are you doing here?"/ ”That… Could I ask you too… Is everything all right? With you and…” he looked down at her stomach and pointed his finger at it. ‘Since when do you care about that, Xander, huh?’.

He looked at her seriously. “Pauline, I care about you, you know that. And when I ask you if you and… your baby are okay, I mean it, okay?”. She shook her head and looked at him. “My baby's better than I am at the moment. Anyway, Jamie assumes he's… Or she's fine. There's not the option of having an ultrasound. Hh,. I'd love to see my baby at least once, you know?“

Xander looked down her body again until his gaze settled on her stomach. "It'll be fine, like she says, OK?" Pauline let out a deep sigh that had apparently been building up for a long time. "Can I…?" Xander asked for permission to stroke her stomach. "You can't even see anything…"/ "Not that…" It was true, you couldn't see much, but you could definitely feel that little bulge. Pauline wasn't alone here.

He slowly pulled his hand away again. “Are you all right? And the children?” Pauline asked him with an almost wistful undertone. “Well… Bella wants her bedtime story every night, and Michael… I can't figure out what's wrong with the boy at the moment. He hangs out with Peter a lot and has this strange grin on his face."/ ‘hn, he likes him’/ ‘why do you say that so strangely?’.

“because I have eyes in my head and so do you… what do you think why they're always hanging out with each other?"/ ‘You… You don't think the two of them… Oh please…’/ ”Hnhn, don't worry about it, okay? You can't do anything about feelings…these things just happen"/ ‘hmm… Yes’. Her words only reinforced what he himself had been feeling all along.

He looked at her for a long time, but she avoided his gaze for a moment and smiled sheepishly. “Is it true that you're into onions these days?”. She rolled her eyes and laughed a little. “Oh man, you ran into Zelda?"/ ‘Hnhn, yeah. I would have liked to bring you one, but… They didn't have any right now’/ ”it's okay. Did you know she's making out with Hank… And with Gobias?"/ ‘you're kidding?’. Pauline shook her head.

She turned a little. “I'm sure you'll tell me now that this should sound familiar for me. Yes… The only difference is that it doesn't hurt me. She and I… We're very similar in character, and she's always been interested in what I've had…"/ ‘And you tolerate that?’/ ‘I kind of have to… She's actually a good friend, too’.

Xander raised his voice a little. “Actually? She's sleeping with your ex and with her… I don't know, lover? Do you think all this up and down is good for you and especially for your baby?” She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “No… It's not… It's stressing me out, really, I really got into it with her the other night"/ ‘It shouldn't have to be, Pauline…’.

She looked him in the eye for a moment. “And what do you think I should do? I can't ignore it, I'll just let her do it, she'll see where it leaves her. But I…"/ ”hm? What about you?”. Pauline's fingernails dug nervously into her palms. “I know you're incredibly skeptical about the baby… But I'd like to be back with you… and the other two“/ ‘hm… ’”.

Xander looked at her seriously. “You're right about the baby. But I also want you to have as little stress as possible… Besides…"/ ‘hm, what?’/ ‘The kids have been asking about you too…’. When he said that, it brought a smile to her face. “Really?"/ ”Mhm…listen, I don't want to rush things, okay? But I want you to be okay… So"/ ‘So… Can I come with you?’/ ‘First of all, another try…’/ ‘And when the baby arrives?’

“We'll see, okay? I think… I need to see the little thing first, maybe even hold it in my arms, to be able to judge whether evantually it's mine… Or not. O.k.?"/ ”hmhm. Then… I'll just go and get my things, all right?"/ ‘Hey, wait…’ It couldn't go fast enough for Pauline. She ran off to Zelda's house and packed her things.

other pointer for anons who come in saying 'could you even discuss with someone who disagrees with you'

someone being critical of the hellaverse shows is not a free pass to be rude, condescending or dismissive to that person. coming into someone's inbox with that kind of tone just means no one will want to speak about the show with someone like that

as hbomb wisely said while he was criticizing RWBY: 'If you have a point but you're an asshole about it, no one will want to listen to you.'

also, sometimes people who are critical of the show want the same thing fans want: a community of people to vibe with. not everyone who criticizes the show is interested in having a fan slide into their DMs to debate them and change their mind. it's kind of presumptuous to assume that's the case

for me the show is some of the worst writing I've ever seen. I doubt anyone's ability to change my mind. And while I don't understand the perspective of people who still like or love the show, I don't begrudge them that. honestly I wish I could still like the show, but I doubt it's even possible for it to win me back at this point. and I don't think I'm alone in that, going by the way the view counts keep dropping

for some of us, trying to like the show would mean ignoring too many things or using headcanons to patch up too many holes or problems. even asusming someone critical would be open to discuss/debate about it, it's again a little presumptuous to assume a fan could counter argue every point as if people who criticize the show haven't already considered different angles that could work and why they don't.

just getting into plot holes and inconsistencies in HB or HH alone this post would become twice as long - this attitude that critical viewers just want to hate the show and are being stubborn for some reason is so strange to me when most critical viewers just talk endlessly about how frustrating the wasted potential is and how much they wanted to like it or would like it if more care was put in

tl:dr but if it bothers fans of the show so much to see people criticize it they should avoid critical spaces for their own sake, rather than marching into someone's inbox to talk down to them or act like they aren't aware other people still like the show

Repeating this part because I feel it's so important, and something a lot of Viv stans either don't or refuse to understand, but it's really at the heart of all of this all.

Sometimes people who are critical of the show want the same thing fans want: a community of people to vibe with.

and same with the c!technos, although i assume they'd a. get along way better in general and b. figure out how to escape in about two minutes...

oh man, i can't help up think about the whole birdhouse au from @cdroloisms

the biggest thing is it'd depend on which point of each au we're talking about. hh!dream towards the end of the au, post kids, is probably the most well-adjusted of all of them and would likely get along with everyone.

but early days hh!dream? c!dream would probably beat him to death with his fists, ngl. it would be rough.

season two au!dream would probably get along very well with hh!dream, at least. he's probably trying to get everyone to chill and work together.

personal shopper au!dream would probably have the roughest adjustment to the whole thing because he was genuinely the most physically effected by what happened to him but at the same time, he's hit with the reality of what could've been. it's not fun. he'd attempt to avoid everyone as much as possible, keep to himself.

both selkie dream and d&d au!dream would probably have the most in common right away so i think those two would get along!
