Waiting for chapters to come out for a novel is a Sisyphean task. Read new chapters, wait for chapters. Read new chapters, wait for chapters... everyday I walk into this hell of my own free will and leave with nothing but a deeper obsession that threatens to ruin me.

Whether it's the MTL, official or fan translation, the guarantee of tested patience is no different, only that some will bless you with a little more time spent in a world where time is unbound by reality.

Yet the desire to know more sooner draws a greater allure by the day, sometimes waning only to explode in raucous applause at the time of posting, reading ravenously, blessed in morsels, then being left starving as if the food had been oxygen to a smoldering flame, consuming the sanity faster.

I will wait for new chapters. I will read them and stoke the fire without regard of the damage, only understanding the cold in my bones, so I alight and burn to ashes. Those ashes will be gathered to a semblance of humanity as time passes, with a blistering, bubbling patience like boils on my flesh and skin, twisted healing that resembles disease. Then, I will be offered more to read, and I know the flames will burn but there is a numbness that comes with scorched nerves and I am left with warmth unimaginable. It can convince even a human that they are an immaterial fire.

I was born with an inferno in my heart, and just as it burns me it also births me anew, in a twisted and broken reenactment of the myth of the phoenix. Lacking wings or claws, I have only the feebleness of a human body.

The CORE, which was once full of pure magic, turned corrupted and unstable after a bomb made it explode. Pit's and Chara's souls were sucked into the remains of the CORE, corrupting the CORE's magic even further. While Chara's soul stayed untouched by the CORE's corruption, Pit's soul and magic got stained. But he is still himself, despite those new funny voices and hallucinations feelings, right? ... Right?

While the last Pit-got-corrupted-part is still a concept, the first half is set in stone in this AU. I'm close to finding a name, I swear!

The CORE does not directly provide them with magic, like in Horrortale, for example. It was once built to take all the monsters into a self-made-built dimension where -theoretically- humans cannot reach them anymore. It drains the magic from the human world to power up and to transfer it to their dimension for the monsters to use.

I say theoretically since there was still a way for Chara to got sucked into their dimension.

Because of reasons that would be too long to explain, humans found them and attacked while the monsters were celebrating a festival that they hold every year.

That's actually the day I'm focusing on the most right now since everyone's life changes after that. It basically revolves around the CORE's explosion, the reason for the festival's existence, Chara's real dad, and Pit... Papyrus is a depressed mess and will probably never recover from this.

But uhm... I really don't know how to properly show everything. Maybe I just make more lore-dumping posts and put them later inside my pinned post or something. This AU has a lot to unpack, and I didn't even really start with the other's character designs! Except for Chara, but her design has lore reasons.

Sunflower Helianthus Annuus (she/her) and Receipt Gratuity (she/they) have been friends since 7th grade! They hate being apart. Sunflower is very friendly, while Receipt is very reserved. Either way, neither of them see the importance in making other friends. Their logic is, “Why spend time with other people when there’s one who gets you so well?”

notes:

- Sunflower is a Ring of Fire Sunflower.

- Receipt gets 4 hours of sleep on average.

- The reason why they have so many classes together is because of Sunflower. She begged her counselor to change everything the second she sees they have far too little classes together.

- They’re not like obsessive about each other, just codependent. there’s a difference i think point is they’re just STRANGW i love them…

CT (Concert Ticket Admit-One) (she/her) and Steamie Geysir (she/they) have had a long rivalry—since 5th grade! Is it really a rivalry though? It’s more like CT makes Steamie upset to get her in trouble. CT has LOTS of “friends” to fulfill the need for attention she has (um parents), and Steamie only has her Mamma (Geyser) and her sister (Torrent/Lindarvatn). Steamie hates attention, while CT can’t get enough. Steamie gives her negative attention (which works), and any advisors that come to break their banter up also bring attention!

notes:

- The angrier Steamie gets, the hotter her temperature. She usually keeps everyone away, as in a certain vicinity they could get burnt.

- CT loves fish. She has a very large fish tank. Don’t ask me what fish is in there, bc i need to research fish. Just CT named all of them.

- The only reason why they don’t have one of those “No Contact Contracts” (idk if this is only my school?? tell me your school did these…) is because CT pretends she and Steamie made up.

Toothbrush Lauryl (she/her) and Tigerpop “Chroma” Lolly-Pop (he/they) don’t depend on other people to give them validation or support, they just focus on their interests. They met in Science class (8th), neither of them having a partner for a lab, being put together for groups. They found that they both loved biology and always partnered together after that. They became friends!! (9th) Though, Toothbrush doesn’t exactly care for maintaining relationships as much as Tigerpop does.

notes:

- Tigerpop loves entomology (bugs), Toothbrush just likes general biology. (i tired to give tigerpop bug-like legs did it work yay or nay…)

- Toothbrush has Type I Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI, or Brittle Bone Disease). She really should look into hearing loss, but she adamantly refuses anything’s wrong. (pls lmk if i mess up or anything disrespectful/wrong i did like hours of research but im still scared AHHH let me know; ;)

- Tigerpop is a triplet! Technically, they are all Tigerpops, that’s why they have nicknames. Tigerpop’s is Chroma because tigers appear green to their prey due to their dichromatic vision. im calling him Tigerpop for the main part because um idk my sister owns one of them and we share the third one i guess

It's important to know that Solas never gets exactly what he thinks he wants in the end.

He wants to be the one to undo his mistake, to tear down the Veil, to make the world anew. Because it will fix him, fix his mistakes, undo the harm he has done to the world. His pride tells him it has to be his hand that does it.

In this version of the story he isn't alone in wanting the Veil gone, and many of his reasons for it he shares with the people loyal to his cause, but he does also hope it will cure his wounds that are now scars.

But the world that was is dead. Because Mythal is dead, because Felassan is dead, because countless others are dead, because he has been changed by the world for better and for worse. And there is no bringing it back.

So Ian ( @theshirallen ) tears down the Veil. The new world is not born out of Solas's pride, but Ian's love and hope for the world that will come next. Not the world of Elvhenan or the Thedas we know, but one that can have the chance to be whole again.
