rae.... how are u...... how's life.... what are you reading rn & is it good? how do u like ur tea? what's your fav sentence you've ever written? and most importantly how's the weather!
hi hello!! what a nice message i'm doing good life is fun rn i'm on a little. weeklong vacation been having a good time walking around + exploring etc...got 2 pet some sheep got a fun manicure bought a bunch of presents 4 my friends + family went 2 a spa!! 4 the first time fun new experience...getting a tattoo tomorrow afternoon which i am v excited abt <3 unfortunately the trip is coming 2 an end i have tomorrow & then half the day wednesday before i take a train back home in the afternoon and then i have. one week!! 2 pack up my entire apartment + say goodbye to all my friends before i move...life is a whirlwind rn & it's mostly fun atm but next week i'm worried that the sadness of leaving behind the city(&country!) where i've lived for 2 years is finally gonna start settling in </3
as for reading i've been in a bit of a book slump lately...been wanting something fast-paced + fun but haven't been able 2 settle on something new to actually pick up & start...i did finally start reading volume 1 of marx's capital this past week but it is. SUCH slow going...i'm taking notes + reading it in v small chunks 2 try & absorb it all so i haven't even finished ch 1 yet lol
i am not a big tea drinker 2 be quite frank!! i much prefer coffee but i have recently sort of given up coffee 4 health reasons...still treat myself 2 a fun coffee beverage every so often but she is no longer a daily staple in my life </3 so i have sort of been replacing her with. peach iced tea <3 which is very easy 2 find here & satisfies my craving 4 a cold sweet drink...generally speaking i'm not a hot-drink guy i like iced beverages & that holds true 4 tea...i like it iced & sweet...except i don't like sweet tea (us-south version...sorry southerners). & when i do drink hot tea i want it 2 be sweet...i want honey or sugar...some milk as well...& my favorite hot tea is yuja tea <3 the kind that looks like jam + comes in a big jar & u mix it into hot water. DELISH that was my winter beverage this year i drank it religiously
favorite sentence i've ever written. well i don't have one...i've written many sentences that i love i simply don't think i can pick a favorite <3 ONE of my faves that i can name off the top of my head tho is the last line of thtf! also wrote a song this year w some of my fave lyrics i've written chorus goes "and if i'm a rabbit/you can cut off my feet/and if you are hungry/what's my body but meat?" which i am quite fond of i'd include that in the favorites list <3
as for!! the weather!!! there was a big storm at the beginning of the weekend so it was very rainy + windy for a bit but honestly i liked it because the temperature dropped so much that it was actually quite pleasant outside for most of friday + saturday...cloudy & drizzly & a little cool. but the sun came back full force by sunday so now it's. SO fucking hot & it's incredibly humid as well...honestly think i'm getting used 2 the heat & humidity tho it's not destroying me the way it did last summer...still hate it tho >:( moving 2 a colder climate soon & while i'm sure i'm going 2 freeze 2 death come november after years of getting used 2 mild winters right now i am just. REALLY looking forward to cheating my way out of summer...should start cooling down in september right when i'm moving whereas if i wasn't moving i'd be expecting another month of heat...#lifehack

Spring troupe (separately) finding notes in their pockets from their s/o reminding them to take care of themselves and that they love them?
A/N: I wrote this as if it was an event that happened regularly! Hope that’s what you meant :) Also I loved writing this so much! This request was so cute, thank you so much anon ;^; Also Masumi has abandonment issues bc I said so and it makes a lot of sense with his character. And apologies Citron’s is the shortest, I’m still working on figuring out his character tbh
CW(s): slight mention of abandonment issues for Masumi
❀ Sakuya Sakuma
He’d be beyond himself when he found the first one
He blushes really hard whenever he reads them you’ve almost pavloved him into blushing every time he feels a piece of paper in his pocket
After a couple times of finding a note, he’ll definitely look forward to days where he finds them
He doesn’t do anything like run to his hoodie and check all his clothes everyday but when he happens to find one it always brings a smile to his face
He’d definitely text you to say thank you and respond with his own small message
He especially needs the reminders to take care of himself during spring though, as theatre takes up so much of his mind and he can get easily preoccupied
Sakuya sat outside in the courtyard, reviewing his script for the nth time. A cool breeze passed through and tousled his hair. He placed a hand in his hoodie pocket, not wanting to get cold; as soon as he reached in he felt a scrap of paper scrape against his hand. Sakuya immediately began to blush and quickly pulled out the paper.
"Reminder to eat today! Hope you have a great day and good luck with rehearsals <3"
He couldn’t help but let a giant grin spread across his face. Then the realization that he hadn’t eaten yet hit him. Omi had just been out not too long ago, or so he thought, to remind him dinner was ready. Sakuya had responded that he’d be there momentarily, but got distracted by the new script.
He quickly got up and began to make his way to the kitchen and dining room. There at the table he saw a handful of the Mankai Company members, including Omi.
“There you are! I was about to go remind you again dinner was ready.”
“Sorry, I got distracted. What did you cook today?”
Omi shook his head. “I didn’t. Izumi did.” Sakuya nodded in acknowledgement, knowing exactly what that meant,
“It’s alright. Now sit down and eat!” Sakuya grabbed a plate and served himself some curry and found a place at an empty seat. He pulled the note out from his pocket again, reading and rereading it again and again just like he did with every note.
After he ate dinner he made sure to text you a thank you.
❀ Tsuzuru Minagi
The first time he found a note he was shocked; he didn’t really have enough time to process it as he was on his way to one of his part-time jobs but during his shift he continued to fumble as he couldn’t get it off his mind
Tsuzuru reached into his pocket for a pen, fingers crossed he didn’t forget one to his server job. He quickly found the writing utensil, but next to it he could feel a scrap of paper. He figured it must have been a reminder he wrote for himself that he forgot about. He pulled the small piece out of his pocket and froze in his tracks once he read it. It wasn’t a note he had written for himself, instead it was a note you had written for him.
"Remember that I care about you and don't forget to take care of yourself today!"
He could barely register the words as he read them, but the immediate emotion he felt was absolute love for you.
He most likely finds any note on his way to a college class or while working one of his part-time jobs
If he finds one while he’s with a member of the Mankai company he probably won’t read it as he prefers to read them when he’s alone since they’re personal and special to him
He tries to keep them but sometimes he just gets disorganized so he may accidentally throw them away; he still has at least half though
He tries his best to follow the notes when they’re reminders (e.g. eating when you remind him to eat) as he doesn’t want to somehow accidentally disappoint you
He definitely needs the reminders when he’s writing scripts as he will not step away from his computer once it comes time for another play; if you leave him a note to eat or drink water there’s a higher chance he’ll at least eat something small or take some sips of water
Since he’s someone who tends to look out for other people, knowing someone is looking after him just makes him incredibly happy
❀ Masumi Usui
He froze as soon as he opened the first note he received as he could barely think; his thoughts were too full of his love for you and he didn’t want it any other way
He probably immediately texted you as soon as he reads it to tell you he loves you and has continued to text you a thank you or ‘ily’ every time he gets a note and decides to check on you in the same message
He loves checking his jackets after he sees you to see if you’ve left a note; and once Tsuzuru told you he checks you started leaving them after every time you went over
He keeps all the notes in a jar on his desk; just seeing them all collected in one place brings a smile to his face
Whenever he feels lonely, or his abandonment issues act up, he brings the jar up to his bed and reads them one by one
Masumi sat in his desk chair, exasperated. He had messaged you a couple times throughout the day and you hadn’t responded despite looking at his messages and he was growing concerned. His mind was beginning to race and he began to assume and fear the worst. Then the jar on his desk caught his eye. He carefully grabbed it, tucked it under one arm, and climbed up to his bed. There he unscrewed the lid and one by one pulled out and read each and every note he had ever gotten from you.
“Reminder that I love you!’
“Remember to eat and drink water <3”
“(ჩ˘⌣˘)♄ love you!”
“This song made me think of my feelings for you- Stupid for You by Waterparks <3”
“Good luck with rehearsal today! (ɔˆ ³(ˆ⌣ˆc)"
Tears began to well in his eyes and he made sure to wipe them away with the back of his hand, lest he ruin one of the precious notes with his tears. Never had he felt so loved before you, and he mentally noted to tell you how much he appreciated you the next time he saw you.
After having dealt with his parents not being there and growing up with no friends, he values you and your reminders an immense amount
He may try to leave you notes as well, but he’d much rather express his love for you in person
❀ Itaru Chigasaki
The first time he found one of your notes, he was overwhelmed with love for you; he could practically see the ‘+10’ affection points above his head as he read it
Itaru probably finds the notes once he’s at work if you put them in his jacket
His morning is much too hectic to be able to read it while at the dorms, so he tends to read it every time he drains his LP (yes, every time; your notes brighten his day)
Itaru stepped away from his desk. He had been watching the clock as his lunch hour ticked closer and closer, and once the time was reached, he made his way out of the office. Once he got to his car and began to drain his LP, he reached into his pocket to pull out the note you had left in his pocket that morning.
"Don’t forget to refill your stats! Remember to eat something and drink water, and keep in mind that ily <3"
He couldn't help but smile at the note, unlocking his phone to both drain his LP and to message you a quick thank you in response to your nerdy reminder.
If you use gamer lingo or nerdy references in the notes he will be positively enamored
He tends to just put them somewhere in a designated desk drawer, sometimes taping his favorites down to the top of the desk to make sure they don’t get lost and to see them while he games
If he’s streaming and he sees one of the notes on his desk out of the corner of his eye, he always ends up smiling and tends to have a habit of taking a drink of water when he sees one
If you leave a note in his gaming sweatshirt, it may take a bit for him to find it but when he does he’s very grateful -even though he has a smaller chance of actually listening to it-
At times when he’s very preoccupied, he may forget that you leave him notes at all so it’s like a new surprise all over again
❀ Citron
He was incredibly happy when he received his first note from you
After the first note he received, he began leaving notes for you as well
Sometimes the notes can be hard to decipher due to him forgetting and switching up words but it’s the thought that counts
You had left a note on Citron’s desk the night before, and when you arrived at the dorm the next day he thanked you for it and gave you a tight hug. While you were there he was telling stories of his home country. He spoke of the food, the towns, and his pet Juliano.
Eventually it began to get dark and you had to bid your boyfriend a farewell. He gave you a kiss on your cheek as you departed, and offered a smile and wave as you exited out the door.
Once outside the bitter winds nipped at your skin, so you placed your hands in your pockets in an attempt to keep them warm. But once you did so, you could feel a scrap of paper scratch against your fingertips. You quickly pulled it out, wondering what it could be. You unfolded it and there in familiar handwriting you found the following note:
"Remember that I am loving you always! Have a safe trip home and do not forget to crink water!!"
You could assume he meant ‘drink’ instead of ‘crink’. His struggle with language definitely found its way into the notes he gave you, but if anything it made him that much more endearing. On your way home, you made sure to buy a bottle of water.
His notes may sometimes come off as nonsensical due to his issues with language
If you really need help translating it, just ask another troupe member and they should be able to help
He doesn’t check his pockets for notes since he loves the surprise of finding them
❀ Utsuki Chikage
The first time he found a note in his pocket he felt so happy and appreciated it more than anything, although you wouldn’t have been able to tell if you were there due to his amazing poker face
Chikage has guilt and baggage and the fact that you stay with him amazes him, but he’s so grateful
After reading them he does throw the notes away, not because he doesn’t like them, but because they feel so special to him he doesn’t want anyone else to have the opportunity to read the words you wrote especially for him
Because of this, he does his best to memorize them
It was originally difficult to know if he was even finding the notes since he’d never let you know or anything of that such
You had been leaving notes in your boyfriend’s pockets for months now. They were simple notes, things such as, ‘Don’t forget to eat today!’ or ‘Remember I care about you and like you no matter your past’. It shouldn't have made you so nervous that you couldn’t tell if Chikage had actually found them, or if he found them annoying, but knots of anxiety were developing in your stomach. So you decided to call him.
He picked up on the fourth ring, “Chikage Utsuki speaking.”
“Hey, Chikage.”
“Oh, hello. To what may I offer the pleasure of this call?”
“Um,” you paused, collecting your thoughts, “so, I’ve been leaving these little..notes? In your pockets? And I was just curious if you had gotten them or if you found them annoying because if you do I can stop-” a laugh on the other side cut you off. “What? What’s so funny?”
Chikage continued to chuckle, “No, I’ve found them.” He lowered his voice to a whisper, like he didn’t want anyone else but you to hear, “I really appreciate them. Thank you.”
“Oh! Well I’m glad.” you were almost positive Chikage could hear your smile through the phone.
“Was that all?”
“Yeah, sorry. I’ll see you later. Bye!”
“Goodbye.” the click of the end call button rang in your ears, but you couldn’t help but continue to smile.
After a while, it’s easier to tell when he has recently read a note as he may come off as somewhat more affectionate but whether he does it on purpose or not you can’t completely tell

Cyborg stepped as softly as he could. He knew he needed a plan. He wasn't going to get very far without one. Stealth wasn't his strong suit, but he was no stranger to it either.
Before he knew it however, he had reached his destination, still with no plan in mind. Deciding to wing it, Cyborg opened the mechanical door with a barely audible swoosh.
The room was dimly lit thanks to the early morning light peaking in through the blinds. Not quite bright enough for his human eye to see anything, Cyborg relied on his robotic eye to navigate his way to the bed opposite the door.
Carefully he made sure that he placed his foot away from any loud toy, or precarious stack of junk and noticed that he had much more space to work with than he was expecting. Last time he was here, the place looked like a tiny trash heap, now it simply looked like any other teenager's room.
After a tense minute of tip-toeing, Cyborg finally reached his goal. Beast Boy lay in his bed in aware of the multitude of plans being cooked up in his friends head. Cyborg ruminated on the best way to wake up his teammate. He didn't want to rip his covers off, as Beast Boy was known to sleep in the nude. He didn't have any cold water either. So he settled for a jarring musical number.
Cyborg qued up a popular song, set his communicator speaker to play the music, and got ready to press play... Until he noticed something else was off, besides the lack of comedically sized trash piles. The blankets were covering more than one person, he was certain of it. He couldn't see who it was as they were completely covered from head to toe by the soft emerald comforter.
As if on que however, the second inhabitant of the bed rolled over and began cuddling the sleeping shapeshifter, revealing her identity, and nearly giving the cybernetic titan a heart attack.
Beast Boy walked in to the Titan's common room groggy, but content. Seconds later, that would change. Cyborg, Robin, and Starfire all jumped out from their respective hiding spots waving colorful party poppers or flags.
"Surprise!" The three of them shouted, causing the shapeshifter to jump back and shift into the form of a very startled green cat.
After realizing what was going on, Beast Boy changed back.
"What the heck guys? You almost gave me a heart attack. I though you weren't coming back until next week."
Robin stepped forward and handed Beast Boy a party popper. "Well we finished things with the Justice League a bit early. I may have let it slip that your birthday was coming up, and Cyborg decided that since you're always trying to throw us parties, we should throw one for you too."
"Yeah well, we gotta show our little green ball of sunshine some love am I right?" Cyborg said as he slapped Beast Boy on the back hard enough to almost knock him over.
"Come friend! We have set up everything your Earth party needs. We have the sweetened baked goods, the drink known as punch, as well as games. Like the one where you reattach a poor animal's limb." Starfire was pulling Beast Boy buy the arm to display everything she had named, with the infectious joy of a child.
Beast Boy stood shocked for a second before saying anything. "Dudes, this is awesome. Thanks you guys."
Cyborg shrugged. "Of course man." Then he took out his communicator and flipped it open. "Raven says she'll be here in a minute. So I'll grab the ice cream out of the freezer. I didn't put it on the table yet since I figured you probably stayed up late playing video games." He began walking back to the kitchen when he threw under his breath "or you know, other things."
The common room door opened with a swoosh as Raven walked in to join the party. Cyborg called her over to the kitchen as soon as he saw her signature blue cloak.
"Speaking of 'other things.' Mind giving me a hand with this ice cream?"
As Raven walked over to the refrigerator, she gave Cyborg a questioning look.
Cyborg smirked at Raven as he handed her a tub of chocolate ice cream.
"Oh nothin. So how did you and BB get along while we were gone? I imagine three weeks alone with him left you two... at each other's throats."
Cyborg's smirk widened a little as his robotic eye picked up something his human eye couldn't.
A passive scan proved that a spot on her neck was covered in makeup, and was warmer than the surrounding skin, indicating a light injury such as a bruise, or, more likely, a hicky.
"I'll grab the big buckets of Neapolitan and Cookies and Cream, would you bring over those two tubs of sherbet?”
Raven grabbed the two plain looking pails and brought them over to the table where Beast Boy was enthusiastically telling Robin and Starfire about one of the only criminals that had bothered them in the rest of the teams absence. She tried to hide the small smile when she realized that he was exaggerating the whole thing to make raven and himself look better.
Cyborg started to hand out plates of cake and ice cream, giving Beast Boy some lime sherbet, Raven some grape, Starfire some orange, and Robin received some red velvet ice cream.
They enjoyed talking and eating until Starfire decide to get some of the favorite yellow condiment/ drink from the kitchen with Robin accompanying her. As they took their time, doting on each other as lovers tend to do, Cyborg sat down with a plate that he finally made for himself.
“Dude, You color coded our ice cream but not yours?” Beast Boy asked as he noticed what was on Cyborg’s plate.
Instead of having some sherbet or ice cream that would match his color scheme, Cyborg instead had one scoop of grape sherbet, and one of lime.
“Nah,it was kind of a last minute decision. Besides, I like this combination of flavors.” His tone was becoming more and more teasing. “The contrast actually works well together. Oh sure the lime and the grape may seem and unlikely pair, but you know, I think they belong together.”
Beast Boy and Raven looked at each other, Raven with growing suspicion, Beast Boy with confusion.
“Don’t you two think that they work really well together?” Cyborg teased some more. “I mean, I can’t see one of these and not think of the other now.”
Beast Boy was starting to piece things together when a portal opened up below the three of them dropping them in the main hallway.
“Okay what do you think you’re doing?” Raven said pointing at Cyborg accusingly.
“Rae?” Beast Boy was just getting a grip on his surroundings.
“Oh nothin. Just makin conversation.” Cyborg retorted looking smug.
“Uh huh. I don’t believe you.” Raven replied still pointing.
“Raven come on. You act like I’m going to blow your cover or somethin. Like maybe I discovered something when I snuck into BB’s room this morning to scare him.”
“DUDE!” Beast Boy yelled “You broke into my room?”
“Hey you would have thought it was funny any other time. You’re just mad I caught you with miss cuddle queen over here.”
“Cuddle queen?” Raven seethed.
“Oh yeah. You were REAL cozy with string bean here.” Before either of them could respond, Cyborg raised his hand in surrender. His tone shifting to gentle. “Look, guys, I’m not the enemy here. Honestly, I think that whatever it is you have going on, it’s probably good for you. You two ARE good for each other. I just want to make sure you’re not going to get hurt. Either of you.”
Beast Boy put on his signature cocky smile. “Relax dude. We know what we’re doing. Raven wants to keep this no stings attached right now and I’m alright with that. Thanks for worrying about us, but we got this. Right Rae?”
Raven nodded, staring at the floor. If Cyborg didn’t know any better, he would say she was blushing. Cyborg leaned down and whispered in her ear.
“You really sure you don’t want any strings Raven? Or are you just scared?”
Raven didn’t respond, instead sliding her hood over her head.
Beast Boy wanted to know what Cyborg had said but the doors to the hallway opened to reveal Robin and Starfire looking confused.
“There you three are. We were wondering where you went” Their leader commented.
“Oh yeah. I figured while you two were busy makin out in the kitchen I’d give BB his birthday present.” Cyborg lied.
“Oh yes! We have the birthing day presents for you as well Beast Boy.” Starfire said clearly excited. “Come Robin, we must fetch them. Friend Raven, did you get a present for Beast Boy or did you not know in time? I would be thrilled to got to the mall of shopping with you to get him one.”
Cyborg cut in for Raven. “Oh don’t worry Star, I’m pretty sure Raven already gave grass stain here a present.”
Raven hid deeper beneath her hood as Starfire apparently found no issue with that comment and carried her boyfriend down the hall to get the presents in question.
“Dude, really?” Beast Boy shot at Cyborg.
“What? You really think I’m gonna stop making jokes?” Cyborg jabbed back.
The trio returned to the common room while Cyborg told Beast Boy what his present was and that he would give it to him later. After Starfire returned with Robin they all sat down so he could unwrap them. Starfire gave him some strange looking device that she claimed was a ceremonial given to men during their coming of age back home. He still had no idea what it did. Robin had found a collector’s edition of one of his favorite comics, to which he was thanked profusely for. Cyborg eventually found a moment to sneak away and grabbed the present he had promised, one of the new video games that Beast Boy was excited about.
As the night Beast Boy and Raven excused themselves. Raven claiming that she was going to meditate, and Beast Boy bragging about a date he had with what he said was a “total ten on all accounts.”
As they were leaving Robin called out to then. “Have fun on your date you two.”
Beast Boy and Raven both turned around looking mortified. Raven looking to Cyborg like he had betrayed them. Beast Boy stuttering out an unconvincing explanation that he wasn’t going with Raven.
Robin raised one hand calling for silence. “You remember I was trained by Batman Right? Besides, why do you think I chose to leave YOU TWO to stay behind?” He said with a smirk.
Beast Boy began another shaky attempt at a defense when Raven grabbed his hand and led him out the door. He could have thought she would be mad or upset, but she had a shy smile on her face instead. Beast Boy could help but smile as he waved a farewell back to his team.
It was a good end to his Birthday.

What are you looking forward to right now? Well, I was looking forward to getting food, but due to car problems it’s going to be awhile. D: What color shirt are you wearing? Long sleeve white sweatshirt with gray and black. What’s your favorite song right now? I don’t have any current, new favorite song right now. I haven’t been listening to music lately. Does God speak to you through books or movies? through nature? through Scripture? All the above. Do you pray to God? I do.
How do you celebrate Easter, if you celebrate it? We have Easter dinner. Do you celebrate Ash Wednesday, Lent, and Passover? No. What will you be doing for Ash Wednesday this year? What will you be giving up (or doing) for Lent? Are you Catholic? No. Do you make crafts regularly, or do you just dream about making them? I see stuff that looks cool and fun and I might feel inspired for 0.5 seconds thinking maybe I can attempt it, but yeah it’s short lived and doesn’t happen. I’m so not artistic or creative, so I don’t know what I’m thinking. Would you rather do a science experiment or a craft project? Out of the two I’d pick craft project. How creative are you on a scale of 1-10? I don’t feel like I’m very creative. What song are you listening to right now? I’m not. Do you have multiple playlists on youtube? No. What is a goal that you have trouble accomplishing? I haven’t accomplished much of anything these past few years. :/ Are you a goal-setter? Not these past few years. I don’t have the ambition, motivation, energy, or drive. Do you usually achieve the goals that you set for yourself? Sigh. What’s a drink that makes you have to go to the bathroom a lot? Water and coffee. What color is the rim of the mirror in your room? Pink. Do you worship on your own? Yes. What’s one way in which you’re behind the times? Uhhh. *shrug* What’s one trend you have yet to follow? A lot of them. I don’t follow stuff just to follow them. If I happen to like it then that’s one thing, but not just cause it’s “in.” Do you own any palazzo pants? What? What color is your Easter basket? I don’t have one. What do you need to get from the store right now? I just want to get dinner. What is your all-time favorite novel? Hmm. That’s too hard to choose. What is something that you used to feel ashamed of, but now you don’t? There’s likely something, but I can’t think of an example right now. What is your favorite part of growing older? I don’t like growing older. It hasn’t been great for me, I want a refund. Do you feel like you’ve matured a lot since this time last year? No. What’s one way in which you’ve matured in the last year? I don’t feel I’ve changed much in that way. Do you feel like you’re advanced spiritually? What. Are you hypersensitive? If so, in what ways are you hypersensitive? Yes. Do you wonder if you are hypersensitive? I know I am. What is something you are not very familiar with? A lot of things. Are you hot, cold, or comfortable right now? I’m warm. If you are unique, do you like being unique, or do you wish you were like everyone else? I don’t want to be like everyone else, but I don’t feel I’m all that unique either. I just feel very...average. If you’re not very unique, do you like being like everyone else, or do you wish you were unique? I’d like to feel unique and have something to offer, ya know? I got nothin. If you’re unique, what is the hardest part of being unique? Do you compare yourself to others? Unfortunately. have you ever wanted to be someone else? Yes, but honestly now I feel like I want to be myself, but a much better version. Did you grow up to be like the person you admired when you were younger? No. :/ My mom is hardworking and strong. I’m in leggings/pajama pants/sweats and comfy, casual shirts everyday. Is there a piece of jewelry you have your eye on right now? No. Do you ever struggle with lust? have you ever? or are you asexual? I’m not asexual, but I don’t know like I don’t think about sex much, honestly. Do you believe that people can be asexual? Yes. I make a LOT of mistakes. What color is your Bible, if you have one? I don’t have one. I read mine online. I do want to get a physical copy, though. Do you collect mason jars and use them for crafts? No. Do you wear mismatched socks? Nah. Which TV show did you want to be on as a kid? Barney lol. Did you used to want to be famous? When I was a kid I wanted to be in commercials, ha. have you ever ever wanted to be a model? No. Are you bisexual? No. Do you have a huge imagination? Meh. What are your hobbies? Swelling Rivers
River god Au! Big thanks to @gatlily for the prompt! Well enjoy folks!(oh my God this is long I apologise in advance.)
______________________________________________
To the small island village, the river was like a coin. It gave clean water, enough for both them and their herds to drink, and it provided food, plants to gather, and plenty of fish to fill their fishing traps. In essence, life.
But like all coins, the river had another side, a more deadly side.
Crocidiles, and the rare jaguar were spotted by the river side, either sunbathing in a patch of sun, or creeping up to the banks for a drink. Both would snatch a person up in a heartbeat though, if given the chance to. Besides the wildlife, during the rainy season the river swelled and became a torrent of speeding water, washing away all unlucky enough to fall in. In short, death.
But still, water was water, and it needed to be gathered daily— this was the chore of Leia Hame.
Every morning before school, and afternoon before dinner Leia came to the river with her water jug to fill. Many of the village teenagers did so, but Leia was a bit different. While others would come to gather their water or fish and leave, Leia spent every extra moment she could down by the river side reading, doing some extra fishing, or just dipping her feet in the water.
Some called her brave, most called her foolish, but Leia neither cared nor stopped going. Her grandfather whom she lived with didn't care either and waved the concerns of others away with the same reply.
"Crocodiles are idiots, and as long as you don't poke around them like a moron they'll leave you be. As for the jaguars," he shook his head. "They hunt at night so I doubt you'll run into them unless your doing something you're not supposed to do. Why else would you sneak around at night?" And he would raise a thick eyebrow, and stare at them till they relented.
One day during the rainy season, Leia was by the riverside sitting on a rocky ledge over the river. Her feet dangled above the foaming water as she read. But unknown to her someone was creeping up behind her.
"What are you doing Leia? Testing the water for crocodiles are we?"
Leia jumped, sliding slightly on the rock before turning around to see who was behind her. It was a girl named Kai. "Oh it's just you, Kai. I thought it was someone important." She jibbed.
Kai was the daughter of the chiefs second in command, and thought herself important.
Kai scowled. "You know I hear their testing out new jaguar traps, you should volunteer as bait."
"Ah, see I would, but you would fill the position perfectly!" Leia smiled sweetly." Your smell would lure them in for miles!"
"I don't smell nearly as bad as you, the reason you catch so many fish is because they think you're one of them!" She snapped.
Leia rolled her eyes. "The reason I catch so many fish is because I'm not scared of a little water!"
Kais face flushed. "You think you're so brave. Always coming down here, you're going to end up eaten by a crocodile or drowned one day." She warned.
Leia placed a hand on her heart. "Aww, Kai, if I didn't know any better I'd say you cared."
She sneered. "On the contrary I look forward to it, you set a bad example. What if one of the little kids decided to follow you up here?" Her eyes trailed to the water.
Leia locked eyes firmly with Kai. "Then I would keep an eye on them. There's nothing dangerous about water if you're not being stupid." She turned back to the water. "Only an idiot would fall into the river." Leia shot back.
There was a beat in the conversation, but then Kai seemed to growl. "Guess that makes you an idiot then!" And she pushed Leia off the ledge.
Leia plundged into the water. It was bitterly cold, her legs and arms worked furiously to bring her back to the surface. Gasping for air as she was swept away, Leia tried call out for help, but only ended up with a mouth full of water each time she tried. It was a struggle to just keep her nose free.
She was pushed away down an unfamiliar path, where the stream became rockier and the trees grew thicker. Reaching out Leia tried to grab at the rocks to stop herself, but the slick stones cut her hands, and slipped out of her grasp.
Arms started stiffing with cold, legs began to cramp up, panick ebbed through her like a slowly crawling spider as she realized she couldn't stay up for much longer. As the river turned she smacked her head against something and lost consciousness.
The next thing she knew, someone was thumping her back, until water spewed out from her lungs, and she breathed in again.
"Little one, are you alright?" A clear bubbly voice asked. When Leia finished coughing out her lungs she rolled to her back, took a deep breath, and flinched.
Before her stood a giantess. From her head, long trails of thick ivy floated around as if still in water. Her large eyes were swirling pools of bright gold, tinted with brown flecks. A long sheet of dark green moss draped across her form, covering skin the color of the pale sky reflected in still water.
Leia pushed herself back, trying to get as much distance between herself and it as she could. She didn't go far, the entire area seemed to be surrounded by thick stalks of bamboo.
"What.... Who are you? What do you want?" She demanded.
The giantess swished her stray hair back and giggled.
"Such strong demands from one so small. I have not told a soul my name for at least a centry."
"What?" Leia questioned.
You could hear the smile as she spoke. "I am the rushing of the river, the gardener of the banks, I am quencher, thirst slacker." There was a beat of silence. "I am vitality and life that flows through all who drink from me. I am River." She spoke excitedly. "It's been many years since I've had a mortal!"
Leia was thoroughly bewildered but stayed silent and tense. What did she mean "had a mortal"? She decided to ignore that last part.
"Um, Yea but...like, what do I call you?"
She sighed. "I do have a name, but it would be unpronounceable to you, what I gave you was the translation of it." After Pausing to think for a moment she continued. "You can call me Malana if you wish." She moved her hand forward frowning. "You are injured."
"I'm fine." Leia said hurriedly, trying to shrink away from the hand.
Malana chuckled. "No you are not, let me see."
"Hey! Wait stop!" Leia yelled as she wrapping a hand around her. Lifting Leia close to her, and moving to the middle of the water.
"Show me your hands." Malana asked.
Leia held her hands close to herself, and shook her head. "N-No."
"Are all mortals like you Leia Hame?" Malana questioned curiously. "So stubborn that they would not receive the help of even a goddess?" She smirked at Leia's shocked face, and in her moment of brief bewilderment Malana snatched Leia's hands.
"How do you know my name?" Leia whispered.
Malana tsked and moved her fingers away. "I have known you for a long time, you are the only one that lingers by the river anymore." She grinned. "I have enjoyed your company, and I hope your fall into the river will not scare you away." Plucking a string of ivy from her hair, she held if over Leia. It wiggled and glowed with life as it crawled down and wrapped around the cut on her hand.
Leia shivered as it crawled down her. "I didn't fall, I was pushed." She said bitterly, then added staring at the plant. "That is so weird."
After a moment her hand tingled, the vine shriveled up, and crumbled into dust. The cut gone. Malana did the same to her head, and this time Leia didn't complain.
"Thank you."
"You are welcome." Malana bowed her head slightly.
Was this all real? How could it be? Perhaps she was dead and this was some sort of purgatory or in her head. None of this could be possible. Her thoughts were interrupted when she— Malana, began to move up stream.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm taking you back, but do not worry" She added. "I will see you again."
Leia mumbled under her breath. "Is that a threat or a promise."
Malana just laughed, and carried her home.
When she was dropped off at the same ledge she was pushed from, she snuck home and changed into dry clothes. If Kai was surprised to see her alive the next day, she didn't show it. In fact no one seemed to know that Leia almost drowned yesterday! Leia didn't know whether to feel dissapionted or relieved that she didn't have to explain how she survied.
Over the next few days, the river calmed a considerable amount, despite the rain still continuing. She wondered if it was the doing of her new "friend". Kneeling to lower her jar, Malanas face popped out of the water.
Leia jumped and nearly dropped the ceramic jug. "What are you doing here?" She hissed.
"I came to see my favorite mortal." She grinned. "Of course your my only mortal."
Leia rolled her eyes. "Im not your mortal, but if someone sees you they're going to freak out!"
Malana smiled and reached to stroke Leia's hair. "Very well, I will leave for now but take this." The river lapped up the bank and dropped away leaving a small reed flute on the ground. "Call for me soon." And Malana bowed her head, and dissapered back into the water.
Leia picked it up and examined the small whistle. It was a child's toy, a simple five note flute that villagers often gave to kids during festivals.
That night, when the moon came out, Leia snuck out of the house and crept to the river. Finding a secluded spot just in case, she pulled out the Reed and blew a note. The water gurgled and bubbled, before Malana came bursting out in her full height.
"Greetings! It is good to see you again!"
"Shhhh!" Leia raised a finger to her lips. "You're going to get me in trouble! I'm not supposed to be out here." She wrung her hands nervously.
Malana nodded and changed to whisper. "My apologies little one. I am grateful you called for me." She curled her fingers on the bank mischievously. "Do you want to see something pretty?"
"Er... Sure?" She shrugged.
Malana picked Leia up. "Great! Hold your breath." And she dived back into the water.
This time, before Leia hit the water she took a deep breath. Under the water it was dark, the light of the moon did not reach far down. Malana kept a good grip around Leia as she rushed down the stream, faster than any run Leia had done before. Malana seemed to know where she was going, she took many twists and turns and at one point Leia was sure they were going up stream. Every half minute Malana would lift Leia above the water for a breath, and every time Leia was lifted, she could see that they were heading deeper into the jungle.
At last instead of lifting Leia up, she dived down deeper and slipped through a tight passage of rocks. Malana broke through the surface into a place of pitch darkness. Leia shuddered, and took a couple deep breaths. Wherever they were, it was cold and she could hear water in the distance.
"Where are we?" Leia asked nervously, her voice echoing.
She felt Malana drape a warm hand around her back. "Shhh. Silence you'll scare them." She warned quietly.
Leia tensed, scare what? What was here? She grabbed onto Malanas finger tightly and squeezed her eyes shut, not that it made much difference.
After a few minutes Malana pulled her finger away. "It's alright, look." Malana nudged Leia's head over.
Slowly she opened her eyes and gasped.
Hundreds of soft green lights covered the far side and ceiling, they pulsed and glowed slightly as if alive.
Malana was grinning behind her. "What do you think? I come here when I need peace."
"It's amazing." Leia stood up, the hand falling aside to let her get a better look. "What is it?" She whispered.
"Their glow worms, they don't like unfamiliar noises though."
Apologizing, Leia sat down quietly, to listen to the distant rumbling of far off water, and watch the wavering glow of the worms. It might have been the constant lull of water, or the dry warmths of the giant hand, but after an hour, Leia drifted to sleep.
Malana smiled, glad that her mortal felt comfortable enough to fall asleep in her hand. She brushed Leia's hair aside, and moved to lean against the cave wall. Settling Leia on her lap, she ripped a piece of moss from her clothes, and draped it over Leia's sleeping form.
"Goodnight Leia."

Skin Care Tips Derms Do Themselves
Soak the Protection
To ensure she layers on enough sunscreen (" the very best method to keep skin youthful"), Garland, TX-based dermatologist Lisa Garner, MD, president of the Women's Dermatologic Society, fills the hollow of her palm (about 1/2 teaspoon) with a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to coat her face, neck, and ears. "I normally need to apply 2 coats to complete what I've squeezed out, but that's how I make certain I'm covered."
Look Sun-Kissed
" A little tint takes years off your face by evening out your skin tone," which a current research study discovered is an essential marker of youthfulness, states Ranella Hirsch, MD, a dermatologist in Cambridge, MA. Her preferred for a natural look: Olay Complete Touch of Sun Daily UV Moisturizer + A Touch of Sunless Tanner ($ 15; drugstores), a lotion with a low level of self-tanner.
Eat a Skin-Saving Breakfast
The very first meal of the day for New York City derm Doris Day, MD, includes almonds. "They include important fats, which help put the brakes on inflammation that speeds up fine lines, sagging, and blotchiness." Not feeling like a nut? Salmon, tuna, and halibut ready lunch/dinner sources.
Spray Away Dryness
To keep her skin flexible, LA-based derm Jessica Wu, MD, sprays it numerous times daily with La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water ($ 8.50; drugstores). (She typically spritzes her face when stuck in traffic!) Bonus offer: The water is packed with minerals like selenium that safeguard against UV damage.
Zen Your Skin
If anyone has stress, it's medical professionals. High levels of tension can surge hormonal agent production that causes breakouts or aggravates conditions like psoriasis. "Controlling tension keeps your skin calm-- but that's easier said than done," says Annie Chiu, MD, a derm in LA. Taking a 10-minute time-out to use a face mask and relax on her bed works for Chiu. Another trick: Ban the 'Berry. "I shut off my cellular phone after 8 at night. Every bit helps!" she says.
Protect with Powder
Sunscreen stops working in less than 3 hours, so reapplication is key, states Washington, DC-based derm Elizabeth Tanzi, MD. For easy touch-ups, she utilizes powder sun block. "It's light, so skin care stays undamaged." Her favorite: Colorescience Pro Sunforgettable Powder SPF 50 ($ 60; colorescience.com).
Set Your Potions
" A 'cross-training' program is the crucial to rapid renewal. Some components-- like sunscreen and antioxidants in the morning and retinoids and peptides at night-- work much better as a team," says New Orleans derm Mary Lupo, MD
. Develop a Bedside Manner
" I typically find it challenging to adhere to my anti-aging routine at bedtime," says Francesca Fusco, MD, an NYC derm. To prevent missing her night regimen, she shops these products in a lovely skincare case she keeps on her nightstand. "So if I've forgotten-- or was just too worn out to apply items at the sink-- I can do it quickly while in bed." Her must-haves: Renova (an Rx retinoid), EpiCeram (an ultrahydrating Rx moisturizer), SCO lip balm, Earth to Skin Care Cracked Heel Renewal, Creative Nail Design Solar oil (to soften cuticles), and Listerine White Strips.
Wear Your Veggies
Frozen peas help soothe itchy, inflamed eyes for Jeanine Downie, MD, a derm in Montclair, NJ. "Once I get home from work, I remove my skin care and put a bag of frozen peas on my lids for about 5 minutes." The cold helps lower swelling and coloring, a side result of duplicated inflammation from her eczema. Unlike inflexible ice packs, a bag of peas quickly complies with the shape of the eyes for a faster result.
Avoid Impact
" The repeated jarring of high-impact cardio like running can weaken collagen and result in sagging," says Oakland, CA, dermatologist Katie Rodan, MD. "So until a 'face bra' is invented, I'll stay with biking and the elliptical device."
Strike a Pose
The majority of derms will flex over back-ward for excellent skin. Hema Sundaram, MD, a Washington, DC-area dermatologist, bends forward. Yoga moves "like Child's Pose, Downward-Facing Dog, and Sun Salutations enhance flow-- the boost of oxygen is exactly what provides skin that charming yoga glow." Another need to require to the mat: New research discovers regular yoga practice might reduce the swelling and stress that speed skin aging.
Soap with Care
Mild cleansers are among my best secrets," says Chicago derm Jonith Breadon, MD. She's partial to CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser ($ 11; pharmacies), which contains ceramides-- fatty materials that help maintain wetness.
Avoid Sodium
Diet soda is a vice that Audrey Kunin, MD, a Kansas City, MO, skin doctor, just can't give up-- she downs as much as 6 cans a day. When she realized that the salt in soda (anywhere from 25 to 50 mg per can) made her eyes and jawline puffy, she switched to a brand name that doesn't penalize her skin: sodium-free Diet Rite soda. "It satisfies my yearnings and my skin looks better."
Cut Back on the Sweet Stuff
The breakdown of sugars, called glycation, harms the collagen that keeps skin smooth and firm. To prevent this natural process from careening out of control, Naila Malik, MD, a derm in Southlake, TX, adheres to low-glycemic carbs like entire grains; they're naturally low in sugar, and the body processes them gradually to restrict the loss of collagen.
Pump Iron to Plump Skin
" I am spiritual about strength-training, and I always inform clients to do it more as they age," states Patricia Farris, MD, a skin doctor in Metairie, LA. The benefit: firmer skin from the neck down, the outcome of having better, more encouraging muscle tone. "It's like including volume to the confront with fillers, except on your body," says Farris.
Tea Up
In her teens, Amy Wechsler, MD, an NYC derm, began consuming green and black tea for the taste. Now she drinks three to 5 cups a day to protect her skin. Research recommends that both kinds of tea contain protective compounds-- like EGCG and theaflavins-- that aid avoid skin cancers and the breakdown of collagen, the reason for wrinkles.

Hair routine + fave products for healthy hair
Per a couple of requests, I updated this older post with my current hair routine and tips.
Hi friends! Happy Monday! I hope you’re enjoying the week so far. I’m looking forward to catching outdoor yoga class tonight – my first group fitness class since March!!- and taking it easy with the fam.
For today, I thought we could chat about hair. I’ve been asked to share some of my favorite hair products + the latest hair routine and thought it would be a fun kinda different post. My hair has been through so many crazy stages over the past six years. From luxurious pregnancy hair, to postpartum shredding + regrowth (the lovely Frankenstein baby bangs), changes in texture (my hair got super wavy after I had P! We joke that it’s because the reflux and everything stressed me out that much) and environment (beach air, dry desert air, and swampy humidity), and getting rid of anesthesia from my system 3 times (<— which can make you shed and your hair do funky things).
(trying to decide if I should keep my current blond-ish highlights or go dark again for fall!)
Just this past year, my hair started growing like crazy. I feel like I’d hit a growth slump, and would often have to get a trim merely because the ends were shaggy; never because it was “too long.” While I’ve been working hard to take care of it, I also think that getting my implants out a few years ago and decreasing the inflammation in my body has made a positive impact. I’ve been taking a couple of new supplements that I think have helped and I think it’s responded positively to the super low-key approach I’ve had lately.
Here are some of the things I do to keep my hair healthy:
-Supplement. I used to take a prenatal vitamin, but instead, I currently take a mix of different things: a liver supplement (that has Biotin in it), vitamin b12, vitamin C, D3/K2 and an adaptogen blend. I also have a scoop of collagen either in my [decaf] cup of coffee or smoothie.
Collagen has been hyped up for a long time, but it wasn’t until I took it on a regular basis that I noticed a difference. My skin looks smoother, and my hair and nails are noticeable stronger. It doesn’t taste like anything, so it’s easy to add into hot or cold drinks. You can check out more about collagen and why I love it in this post.
I also take MCT oil (usually in my smoothie or coffee) for a quick dose of healthy fat. You get the the huge bottle at Thrive Market.
-Watch the heat! This one is hard for me because I like showers that literally burn my skin. Like, I want it to feel like burning lava. When I take a super hot shower, I bring the temp down to wash my hair. My mom is a hair stylist and has always told me to rinse my hair with cold water because it closes the hair follicle and makes it more shiny. I’ve actually started listening to this advice.
Tumblr media
I just turn the water to ice cold before I get out of the shower and lean my head back so the freezing ice water doesn’t touch my body. Bonus: cold showers can help the lymphatic system, too.
When I know I’m going to heat-style my hair, either with a blowdryer or styling wand, I pick 1 thing to use for heat styling. So, if I’m going to round-brush it with a blowdryer, that’s it. If I know I’m going to curl it, I let it air dry first, so I’m not doubling up on hot tools.
-Get regular trims. This one is tricky with the kiddos and with the current situation, but I’ve noticed a difference in my ends since I started getting regular trims. In normal circumstances, I try to go every 4-6 or so. For now, I’ve had one trim since January and am super overdue for a new one.
(When salons re-opened, I masked up for some highlights and a trim just to feel like myself again. This was a couple of months ago.)  -Don’t wash it a lot. I wash it 2x a week max. If I need to take a shower because I got a sweaty workout or hit up the pool, I’ll rinse my hair with water and just put conditioner or a mask on the ends. I think shampoo can be really abrasive and drying, and if you shampoo every day, it can make things crispy fast.
While I don’t wash my hair a ton, thankfully my hair doesn’t get too greasy – it will get a little dandruff snow if it’s been a while – but dry shampoo comes to the rescue. I’ve tried SO MANY, but this one and this one top the list.
Favorite hair products:
-Moroccan oil: I’ve been using this for years, and it’s the best ever. I’ve tried the light and really like it but prefer the heavier oil. We’ve also been using it on the girls since they were toddlers.
Tumblr media
We never have to use detangler on their super long hair because Moroccan oil does the trick.
-Hair mask. This is my #1 favorite hair product. It makes SUCH a huge difference in the texture of my hair! My stylist in San Diego first recommended the Kerastase mask to me (the one in the pink jar), and I couldn’t believe how smooth and silky it made my hair. It was pricey but well worth it. Since then, I’ve tried a few different ones and really like the Loreal silicone-free. The only bummer about good hair masks is that you have to get them from a licensed salon for the most part. I’d hop into one (especially if you have a local salon with Kerastase products) and see what they recommend for your hair.
-Heat protectant. This is another huge one. I love the Drybar Hot Toddy and the Kerastase Discipline.
-Hairdryer, styling wand, and Revlon styler. I use the Revlon styler after my hair is about 80% dry if I want straight smooth hair. I’ll finish it off with the Drybar round brush and my regular hairdryer. When I want waves, I’ll let it air dry and fix the crazy pieces with this styling wand.
So, tell me friends: what’s your hair routine like? What are some of your fave products? A friend of mine swears by using apple cider vinegar instead of shampoo, but I’m scared to try it.
Any crazy hair stories?
I have two:
-When I was little, I would cut off chunks of my hair and hide them in my toy box. My mom quickly noticed what I was doing.
-My friend wanted me to dye her hair blonde in high school. I didn’t know you had to bleach it first, so I just covered her hair in blonde dye. The roots were the only thing that took the color, so she looked like she was wearing a bald cap with hair sticking out. She cried, and I felt like the worst friend ever. Thankfully, madre fixed it.
Have a great day and I’ll see ya soon!
xo

Chapter 9
They finished the remainder of their meals, and Mei retreated to the back of the van for a round of baby wipes and fresh clothes without grease or bloodstains. The junkers had no such qualms and lazed about with the effects of the battle still evident all over them, the freshly-healed wounds still raw and red upon their flesh.
When she had cleaned up and returned to the campfire, Roadhog was gone. She glanced about, and finally saw the silhouette of his figure further down the canyon, tinkering with his motorcycle. “Oh no, did you tell Roadhog to leave again?”
“Wasn’t me this time, mate, swear it. Just left on his own. He does that. Says it’s the only time he gets any peace around me. But!” He gestured to the blanket next to him, the firelight illuminating his features eerily and really doing nothing to help his cause. “Figured you still might want to talk. We never got around to talkin’, last time.”
She scrunched her nose in hesitation, but quickly relented. With a nod, she slipped forward and settled down next to him, and didn’t protest when he went to drape his arm around her like before. “I suppose we never did finish our talk from before,” she said.
“Too roight. How you feeling, darl?”
“A little rough, to be honest. It’s been a while since I’ve been shot. I really shouldn’t complain, though, I’m very sorry for how you must be feeling after all that.”
“Me? Aw, this is nothing, I’ve had worse. Nothing keeps Jamison Fawkes down for long!” He thrust a finger into the air, then winced slightly and drew his arm back down. “Might take it easy for a bit, though. Still can’t get the taste of that ol’ drongo’s blood out of me mouth. Luckily, I came prepared.” He spat into the dirt before unlatching his flask of tea, taking a gulp before offering her a taste.
Just as before, she accepted and took a swig. Apparently today’s flavor was strawberry. “Oh, I love strawberry.”
“I know.”
“Do you have any more?”
“Oh-ho-ho, do I! See, I told Roadie that tea heist was worth the trouble, but the old blubberknuckle never wants any. Come on, let’s see what I got!” He sat up and scampered back towards to the van, returning with his own rucksack full of personal supplies. Within moments he had a pot of water boiling above their little campfire, and Mei watched with interest as he led her step by step on how he made his outback teas. It was really quite involved, and she was surprised at just how precise and delicate he could be with all his measurements, even if his measurement system consisted of an old tin measuring cup and he could only explain things not in numbers but ‘just above the dent here’ or ‘before it gets up to knuckle height here’. Apparently much trial and error had gone into his processes, but he remembered, tried again, and perfected. It was honestly fascinating to watch him work, dumping in flavor powders and sugar and measuring out the dried tapioca orbs and condensed milk levels.
She could easily imagine him doing much the same with his makeshift explosives, measuring gunpowder instead of sugar, twisting and fiddling with charges instead of flavored powders. And he had done this all with little to no education. He may have been crazy, but he also was crazy smart, in his own way. She knew of scientists and college-educated scholars who couldn’t work with chemicals the way he did. It made her wonder what he might have been capable of if he had the correct opportunities.
Moments later, she found herself holding a tin cup full of more strawberry boba tea, and Junkrat sitting back beside her with his own flask, other arm draped about her shoulders.
“And that’s why you -never- mix up your blue jars and your yellow jars, you end up with gunpowder black boba, and it don’t taste as good as you’d think it would!” he finished, apparently having rambled on with some story or other while Mei’s mind had wandered.
She glanced about before giving him a little grin. “I have an idea for it,” she said, before reaching to where her cryo-liquid canister and gun lay nearby. She twisted one of the release knobs, took aim with her gun, and with two little puffs of ice, their tea was nicely chilled as she passed it back to her companion. “It’s not really wasting ammo if it’s for an important cause,” she remarked slyly, a little thrilled with even the most benign naughtiness.
He grinned back at her, clinking his flask to her cup before pulling her back into his embrace and drinking deep. It was surprisingly nice to simply be relaxing with him; with Junkrat, of all people, something she never would have expected herself to be doing several weeks ago. Perhaps it was simply from bonding over several life or death situations by now, or seeing how much more easily he fit into his natural home than he ever had back at base, or just from simply spending time with him that didn’t involve exasperated sighs or patiently counting down until he would go away. She was almost getting
well, fond
of him. Of Junkrat. Jamison Fawkes.
“Mei? Mei! Oi, you’re dazey tonight, your head all right? Need to get another biotic pack?”
“No! I’m sorry, no. I’m fine, really, just have a lot on my mind. There’s been so much that’s happened since I arrived. It seems like every day something strange happens. Is it really always like this?”
“Nah, love. Maybe it’s just luck, but most days are usually spent driving or traveling, avoiding other junkers or trying to beat them to a score, and real long periods of nothing. You just seem to be getting all the exciting stuff, lucky you! This is way better than doing nothing! The real Aussie experience!”
She gave a little groan of disagreement. “My ribs think differently, thanks.”
“Thought your lil’ icicle move took care of that?”
“It does, to an extent. It basically cauterizes, but it certainly doesn’t mean it’s pleasant. And I don’t
really like doing it
”
“That why you always look weird when you come out of it?”
She furrowed her brows at him. “What do you mean, that I look weird?”
“I dunno. Not bad! You never look bad. But you got this look on your face when you come out. You look scared.”
“I don’t like to use the cryo-freeze until there’s no other option. And even then, I can only last for a few seconds before I need to get out. I know Winston and I designed it for longer capabilities but
I just can’t do it. I count the seconds until I can break it.” Mei looked down, feeling somewhat uncomfortable even speaking about it. “It’s a shame, I can’t use it like it’s supposed to be used but
I just can’t do it. Not after everything that happened.”
“Yeah, heard you was on ice for a while in the Antarctic. Brrrrr, I get cold just thinking about it! How long were you chilling out, anyway?”
“How old do you think I am?”
“That a trick question? This one of those things where I’m not supposed to ask a lady’s age because it’s rude and Ana will cuff my ear again?” Junkrat grumbled to himself, lifting a gloved hand to the side of his head and rubbing it as if trying to soothe a painful old memory. “That was my favorite ear, too. I swear it was all red for weeks.”
“No, really. How old?”
“Okay, I mighta peeked at your file. I was gonna find your birthday and then get you something real good, I mean ‘blow your socks off!’ kind of good. Maybe literally! Uh, hold on, you were in your thirties I think? A few years older ‘n me, so what? Not a problem, what good blue-blooded bloke doesn’t admire an older woman.” He wiggled his thick brows pointedly.
“I know my file says I’m 31. In a way, I’m 31. I mean, I feel 31 but, technically
”
“Huh?”
She coughed lightly. “I’m closer to 42.”
Junkrat’s eyes bulged, head tilting his head this way and that, and she could practically hear his mind buzzing as he processed that bit of information. He sputtered, for once seeming at a loss for words, then seemed to regain his senses and held up a finger pointedly. “42! Roight! Uh. Well! What
good blue-blooded bloke doesn’t admire an older woman?” he tried again. “Hooly dooly, that’s near on Roadie’s age. You don’t act like it. Or look like it. I mean, not that not acting or looking like Ol’ Pigface is a bad thing
”
She shrugged helplessly. “But in a way I’m still 31. But I was in that cryostasis pod for just over a decade. Isn’t that hard to imagine? Ten years going by while you’re asleep? But we never meant it to last that long. We thought we’d just be under for a few weeks, a few months, maybe. But then everything malfunctioned and even though I was preserved, ten years of my life went by and my body’s cells were still aging. Nobody would know it just by looking at me. But ten years of my life are gone, and I never knew them.”
“What’s that mean for you?”
“It means I’m over 41 years old, with the look and mind and everything else like I’m 31. But still, I’m 41. Because I lost a decade. Even if I live to be very old, I’ll die ten years before I should. I try not to think about it. I get very sad about everything if I think about it too much.”
“Yeah. You know, sometimes I think that too. Think I’ll survive long enough for the radiation n’ everything else to get me? Junkers don’t live real long, and if I start thinking of it, get this real bad feel in the bottom of my gut, like I drank a bad boba or something, but worse. Makes what’s left of me arm and leg bits hurt too, real strange. So I decided ‘to hell with it!’ and don’t much think of it at all. I like to focus on building or testing instead, put out a few good kabooms! Always brightens my day!” He offered her a lopsided smile, gold tooth gleaming.
“Is that why you don’t seem to care about all the danger you put yourself into? You don’t care? Do you want to die?”
“Tch! Of course not! That’s mad!”
“But it’s mad to be throwing bombs around and working with explosives and I mean, I’ve seen you fall asleep on top of one of your mines before. Any one of those could kill you.”
“Yeah, then I’d be dead, wouldn’t I? S’like, the big finality. Won’t have to worry about anything then, I guess. Besides, won’t be so bad if I die younger. It’s real likely I’ll die before the radiation withers or cold fevers can really hit me. Ooo, darl, I’ve seen what it does to you. Spooks me, the thought of living that old.” He let an exaggerated shudder run through him.
Mei sat up and gave him a hard look, dark eyes meeting gold. After a moment she merely shook her head and leaned back against him. “I don’t think I really understand you, a lot of the time. I’m scared to die young and you’re scared to die old? Do you think that means anything?”
“It’s funny, ain’t it? It’s all right, love, we don’t gotta agree on all the finer bits. Fuck knows it’s not up to us in the end. But
” He pecked his lips to the top of her head before resting his chin atop her. “Suppose I can try to stick around a bit longer since you need me for all these missions and whatnot, you know, keep an eye out for you. Let it never be said that Jamison Fawkes struck out early when Miss Mei still needed him! We got a lot to finish!”
She paused, trying to think of something that might lighten the mood, turn the conversation away from lost years and the impending death of the both of them. So she pondered his words for a moment, biting her lip, before commenting quietly, “Don’t worry. I’d never suggest that you finish early.”
Junkrat froze before grasping her by the shoulder, eyes wide as he pulled her back to look at her. “Did you just make a dirty joke?”
“Wha-no! No! Maybe! I just
I overheard McCree make a joke one time about-you know!” She buried her face in both palms.
“You did! You just said a sex joke! Blimey! I never thought I’d be alive for the day! Forget everything I said. I can die happy. I’m dyin’ right now.” He immediately flopped over onto her, letting his wiry form go limp across her as she struggled from the sudden weight. “Ya killed me, Mei. I’m dead.”
“ Wǒde mā ya! Get off, you’re heavy! You’ll be dead if you don’t get-
WAA!” She shoved against his chest, and and he immediately redoubled his efforts to drape over her.
“Making filthy sex jokes and threatening to kill me? I knew us junkers would be a real bad influence on ya.”
She gave up against the pressing weight of him. How did he manage to be both gigantic and scrawny at the same time? With an oomph, she collapsed onto her back onto the blanket with a little wince as her ribs protested, and Junkrat landed backward, sprawled across her stomach with his fists risen into the air in triumph. He twisted slightly, then finally lifted himself on one arm to loom over her, his eyes seeming to literally glow in the shadow from the firelight.
They were so close together. It had just been him teasing her, of course, the way he always teased her, combined with his simple inability to recognize personal boundaries. And she’d let it happen. She really should bring it to a stop; try to force him off her again, or tell him he smelled and shove him away, or scold him for possibly re-opening their injuries. She started to do just that, inhaling, but found she was merely holding her breath and saying nothing.
Mei stared up at him, mouth going unexpectedly dry. She just needed a moment, that was all. Her blood was singing because of simple adrenaline, the remainders of the a tough day and their impromptu wrestling match. Her arms were starting to wrap around him just in retaliation, to try and ready herself against his play, and the reason her fingernails were starting to scrape lightly at his flesh was because
she couldn’t think of an excuse for that one, nor one for why her other arm shifted up around his shoulders and her hand brushed the coarse sandy-blond locks of his hair.
He made a little desperate noise in his throat as he pulled himself half atop her, hands planting on either side of her shoulders. Something had changed between them. His eyes were dilated black rimmed with gold, and there was tension in his stance. After a moment she realized he was waiting on her, waiting for that scolding or for her to reject him yet again. When that rejection did not come, his eyes widened down at her, drinking in the way she looked with her arms looped around him, a black smear on one side of the her face that did nothing to conceal the charming flush of her cheeks, her hair tousled and messy on the blanket below, and how dark her eyes were, drawing him in

There was a pause, the length of a heartbeat as they looked at one another, before his head dipped suddenly and his rough lips covered hers.
It had been years. Technically, it had been decades, though she had slept most of them away and could not remember them. The last person she had been with had been a member from another eco-point she had been visiting in Greenland. He had been blue-eyed and soft spoken and respectful, and they had taken refuge under a thick blanket together, enjoying each others’ warmth because it had been so cold out.
It was nothing like now. Now she was sweating in a desert, being kissed by a man who couldn’t be more different from her if he tried. He was as warped and strange as the land he came from, towering in height, his back hunched just to be able to reach her. He was lean with sinew and muscle and his body peppered with scars from a lifetime of hunger and bloodshed. She drew in a breath, and he smelled like sunlight and gasoline and smoke and it nearly choked her. Those strange amber golden eyes stared pleadingly into hers as he tried to kiss her again, his searing lips landing on her half-open ones. Hot breath exhaled across her face.
Another kiss. And then another. But when she still didn’t seem to react, his scorched brows furrowed and his expression was crestfallen, an apology choked in his skinny throat as he tried to untangle himself from her and draw away, gaze downcast.
He found he could not. Her fingers had latched themselves into the thin meat of his back, slowly curling against him and holding him there. He blinked and looked back to her, confusion and the beginnings of hope written on his features.
Mei swallowed audibly, and her voice came out as an embarrassing squeak before managing to whisper, “No, sorry. I just
didn’t expect
It was fast.”
His unique grin returned, though he still seemed unsure of where they stood. “S’pose I’m a pretty unexpected sort. Uh
mighta got carried away?”
To assure him otherwise, she tightened her grip around him and leaned upward, pressing her lips back to his. Junkrat’s expression melted into pure happiness, eyes drifting half closed as he positioned himself back over her and readily kissed her back. He was an enthusiastic kisser, as enthusiastic as he was with everything he did, and threw himself into it headlong. His head tilted to the side, lips still locked as he urged his kisses deeper, trying to taste her as his tongue slipped forward against hers. She was more shy, and her tongue darted back until several more kisses and a low moan reassured her, her mouth finally opening to his.
She wasn’t sure how long it went on. Time had simply stopped mattering to her fogged senses. There was nothing but the feel of lips and hands, one warm flesh and the other cold metal. She could have easily lost herself further, let herself be drawn in by the scent of smoke and the promise of more heat and more pleasure. His breath was getting faster, nearly panting, and even that was nearly drowned out by the way her heart pounded almost painfully against her ribs. She wanted nothing more than to draw him closer, lose herself in that heat and become part of it, and burn with it. She was only dimly aware of his long fingers slipping into the bottom of her shirt, slithering upward through the fabric, towards the swell of her chest

She gasped against his lips, “Wait.”
He paused immediately, eyes opening with a questioning look. “Hnn? S’wrong?”
She reached down to still his seeking hand, starting to pull it from her shirt. “Jamie
I can’t.”
“Wot?”
“Not yet,” she answered gently, and tried to soothe him with another kiss to his chin.
He wasn’t the sort to ever hide how he was feeling, and made no effort to conceal the disappointment written on his features. He cleared his throat a little, nodding furiously as he pulled himself off her. “Gotcha. Okay. Did I do it wrong?”
She shook her head quickly, sitting up. “No, no, it was
it was nice. Really nice. I just think it shouldn’t be too fast. Roadhog might come back any second, and my ribs still ache a lot and you’re still hurt, and just, it’s been a while for me and I just
I suppose I need a bit of time. But nothing was wrong, please don’t think that.”
He looked somewhat relieved but still unhappy, managing a grin that was clearly half-hearted. “Roight. Well, don’t want to freak you out or nothing. And I guess I’m still not in tip-top shape
was really making me feel better, though. You liked it though? Really? Know I did.”
“I did too.” She glanced out at the rapidly darkening shadows beyond the fire before leaning to whisper in his ear, “A lot.”
His scrawny chest puffed out at that, clearly pleased with himself. “Well, guess we can put a pin in it until next time.”
“Thank you for understanding.”
“’Course!”
She gave his hand a little squeeze before pulling herself upright, dusting the sand from her rear. “I’m going to go get things ready for bed.”
He nodded. “Yeah, sure. I’m uh
gonna go do some things. Be back in a tick.”
She offered him a smile, his favorite kind. It was slow and genuine and made dimples just below the apples of her plump cheeks, her eyebrows perking just slightly above the crease of her eyes. It was very different from his own grin, with wide stretched lips and bared teeth that was more snarl than smile. Her smile was beautiful. He offered her a little wave, fingers wiggling before she turned and vanished into the back of the van.
“Fuck!” he gasped, though the expletive sounded more frustrated than angry. He leapt upright, the joint of his peg leg audibly squeaking, before hurriedly going to lope off beyond the dim light of the tiny fire, out into the shadows of the gully.
He passed by Roadhog, who was sitting by his motorcycle with a tiny booklight, reading quietly and guarding the entrance to their camp. Junkrat snorted and lifted his head, skulking past him and trying not to call too much attention to the severely noticeable and nearly painful tent at the front of his shorts. Roadhog didn’t even look up, but as he passed by, the larger man shifted slightly in his seat and rumbled a low, “Hope you’re being careful.”
Junkrat whirled upon him. “Oi, piss right off, wanker.”
Roadhog snorted a chuckle. “I don’t think I’m the wanker here.”
“S’fuckin’ crude, mate, that’s what that is. I’ll have you know, we had a brilliant time! I hit all the bases! First all the way through fourth!”
“There’s no such thing as fourth base.”
“Oh, there is! But I’m not gonna tell you shit about it, because she wants a proper gent, and I’m a proper gent, and proper gents don’t kiss and tell! Uh
I’m just gonna
go take care of some things real quick. Got some business.” He skipped a step and then turned and practically dashed out into the dark, desperate for a bit of private time.
“Don’t hurt yourself,” Roadhog advised, turning another page of his novel.
“Fuck off!”
Night had long since fallen but Mei, once again, found herself laying awake in her sleeping bag inside the van. She tried turning this way and that, tried sleeping on top of it, tried wadding up her hoodie for more of a pillow, but nothing seemed to help. Her ribs ached fiercely and her mind played the events of the day over and over again; the trouble back at Lucky's Station, the massacre in the canyon, their conversation about the time they'd never get back. Most of all it played that kiss. Or, kisses, plural. It wasn’t regret, not really. It had been warm and sincere and she kept wondering what would have happened if she’d not said to wait. Well, she knew exactly what would have happened, Jamison wasn’t exactly shy about that. And she really did need the time to think things through. Think about what all this meant

For the past hour she had sat and listened to the hushed voices of the junkers outside, and by the sounds of it, they were starting to turn in as well as she heard the rustle of bed rolls. She rolled over to stare at the dull, torn-apart ceiling of the van for several minutes more before coming to a decision. She pulled her leggings back on, rolled up her sleeping bag, and rolled open the door.
The lantern immediately switched on outside, Junkrat blinking at her as she climbed down. “Mei? Somethin’ wrong?”
She looked over at him. He had already removed his prosthetics, the stump of his arm cut off just below the elbow and a suspiciously flat area beneath the blanket where his leg should have been. She shook her head quickly, lifting up the messily-rolled lump of sleeping bag in both arms. “No, no, I’m fine. It’s just not very comfortable in there. I thought maybe I’d try sleeping out here?” She glanced over at Roadhog, who was little more than an unmoving mountain atop his own bedroll, his back turned to her and offering no response. “If that won’t disturb anyone? I don’t want to be a bother.”
Junkrat’s usual grin spread back across his face as he gestured the remainder of his arm beside him. “Here! Yeah, clear spot right over here, real nice!”
“Thank you.”
“Just sayin’, you get cold in the night or anything, I am right here. Real good for warmin’ you up.”
She gave him a pointed look. “You are saying if I get cold. Me. Zhou Mei-Ling.”
“Okay. Okay, point taken. But, offer stands.”
Nodding, she went and dumped out her sleeping bag a polite distance away from the junker, trying to ignore his clear excitement. She couldn’t deny that her time with Jamison had turned from a kiss to full on making out, but she wasn’t quite ready for anything involving sleeping with the man, even in a literal sense. At least outside, the night air was cooler and fresher, and as the lamp switched off again, she rolled onto her back and stared up at the vivid array of stars overhead, above the stretching darkness of the canyon walls, just as spectacular as the first night she’d seen them. It was far nicer to be out here. Junkrat was muttering softly to himself in such a way that she couldn’t tell if he was asleep or not, while Roadhog’s breathing was a deep, steady rumbling baritone every time he breathed out.
With a contented sigh, she removed her glasses and tucked them next to her makeshift pillow, as the world above blurred before she closed her eyes and willed herself to sleep.
