despite being more often than not a "rules as written" fan over "rule of cool", i really do love me a good "rules be damned, i'll give you this awesome moment" call. like matt giving fcg the otohan kill despite what her hp was at or brennan giving cerrit an extra mage slayer reaction attack at the end of calamity. honestly, if anything, i think the fact they mostly play by the book makes these moments even better because it really has that extra weight towards those decisions to put the rules aside.

So yes I have OF COURSE read @naffeclipse new fic Apex Polarity and yes, I AM OBSESSED!

So I decided to make a little comic of how I think their "first encounter" might have looked like from Eclipse's perspective.

I can't help but think about how alien and scary we most look to him (especially if there is a history of fasco hunting polar sirens in the past). With all that gear we look like emotionless beings, just observing and uncaring of this ice world. But then when y/n shows up and probably exudes this joy and wonder for his world + shows respect for the creatures and the environment??? Mmh yeah, I can see Eclipse falling for y/n, especially considering how alone he might be...

So yes, that's what I have for today! If you want to read the fic I'll link it right here. I can't recommend it enough, but as always, read the tags so you know what you're getting into! And lastly I also want to @themeeplord beacuse Eclipse's design is basically their design in my style (god I love their design so much, their character/creature designs are the BEST) so all the credit goes to them! building on beach sand here but can we please consider the layers of choi subongs character. the fact that right before the games, he was on a bridge to kill himself when the recruiter asked him to play a game. he was at the very edge of his life when divine intervention stopped him. and when he got to the games and saw that the truth of what 'eliminated' was, the raw fear in his eyes. can we talk about his immediate move to a familiar crutch, to the empty escape of whatever pills he's taking. and lets add the fact that he's stuck in the past, in the life he used to live before his rap career fell apart, before he lost all that money.

then let's talk about him and namgyu and how they instantly connected. how namgyu is a part of that life subong used to live. we don't know to what extent but they knew each other at club pentagon, or atleast namgyu knew him, saw him there and bought him drugs etc. and so of course their pairing makes sense. of course subong, who is bathed in nostalgia, connects to namgyu, who is an echo of the life he wants to live again. of course they team up to flirt with the idea of death, of course they're assholes, losers and bullies because they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. we don't know namgyus backstory outside of his drug use but i imagine it's nothing pretty. so it makes perfect sense for the two of them to find solace in each other. to be the other's worst influence, to cling and cling and refuse to let go. can we talk about these two and just the twisted beauty of how terrible they are together but how in no version of reality could they see themselves with anyone else.

I'm trying to avoid getting spoiled so I haven't looked up what's happening in the Jp server's main story, but for my own sanity I need to ask; is the story at a point where we know whether Lilia will get better/survive his almost-empty magic reserves..? Was it a true death flag from the start or only a plot device for malleus' overblot....?

not yet! I do think they're going to get back to it eventually, but -- keeping it as low spoilers as possible -- there's been...let's just say a LOT going on in the meantime.
