i remember, but can't find, an old @brendanpatrickhennessy post talking about a thing in narrative game design. in essence, sometimes you give the player a "choice" knowing that they're gonna pick one over the other 99% of the time, so that choice is more or less an in-stone story beat. sharing the earbuds in life is strange: before the storm was the cited example. you are going to share the earbuds. it's just the thing to do. but you Chose it, so it's better than if it just played out of its own accord.
