Was checking some stats on AO3 and I've written over 813k words of fanfiction since late 2019... That's a lot of words... 👀 It would take another 87k to break the 900k mark - maybe in 2024 that'll happen, or maybe this year depending on how "thick" RICKMAS2023 will be...

You guys always make me feel like I can never write enough (in a good way) and the community here is amazing, all the comments and engagement is just absolutely wonderful and I would NEVER have made it this far without you guys - fandom is a community and this community absolutely ROCKS ❤

after literal years i finally got around to downloading a pdf of the wipers times, an unsancitioned satitical british trench magazine circulated among the troops in france from 1916-1918 after the fortuitous discovery of a printing press. i have approximately five million other things i need to read so idk when i'll be able to devote much time to it, and i gotta pick up a proper copy bc it's missing at least salient no 4 vol 2. that said? i'm genuinely laughing at what i've skimmed so far

makes me a little sad when star trek ignores IDIC. like. vulcans are logical. that is true. But 'logical', for vulcans, does not amount to 'without compassion,' and it definitely doesn't amount to 'racial superiority.' Belief in 'infinite diversity in infinite combinations' should NOT result in the weird racist/speciest stuff we're getting in some of the newer treks. It does make sense that some vulcans are discriminatory. They're still flawed. But that should not be common or expected, like it seems to be in SNW. If it is, then it's a race of hypocrites, which. doesn't seem very true to Star Trek's message.

I think TOS Spock does a pretty good job of embodying this. Not always, it was the 60s, after all, but mostly. He was often trying to find non-violent routes, and get by without killing - even if they were in danger or had already been attacked. (See: the mugato, and the horta (until Kirk was the one in danger, lmao. t'hy'la > IDIC), the Gorn ship). Kirk, in his eulogy, calls him the most human soul he's ever known, and I've always read that as Kirk calling out Spock's overwhelming compassion.

It's just so much more interesting when Vulcans get to be radically compassionate. I want them to believe that everything and everyone has value. I want them to respect all ways of being. I want them to find ways for even very non-humanoid aliens to exist unfettered in society. I want them to see hybrids and think that it's amazing. Also, like, disability rep. I want Vulcans to have The Most Accessible Planet and available resources because they want everyone to feel accepted and valued. It makes for better characters and more interesting stories.

Y'know what my favourite sort of AO3 comment is?

The essay writers. Like. Yes. Please go through the fic and pick out your favourite quotes and then analyse them afterwards. Even if it's just the last scene, do it. Treat my fic like you got given a Lit assignment on it. I am screaming with glee whenever you guys notice some subtle bit of something I put in the fic, and also definitely not doing the 'Yes That Is Totally What I Meant' face whenever you find something that wasn't actually intended. I love you people so goddamn much.

All comments are precious but the essays just make me giggle and bounce a bit. It's great.
