13. "Can't--breathe--".

“River! River! Look at me!”

He did, and God help her that was worse for Louisa. His eyes, glassy and unfocused, bulged in an unspoken question. His chest looked odd, one side concave in an unnatural way as it heaved in an uneven agony and River struggled to breathe. 

“Oh Fuck.”

Louisa turned desperately to Shirley, who was pale and wide-eyed but was thankfully already calling 999. 

“Can’t–breathe–” River gasped, grabbing onto her wrist with a bruise-inducing grip. 

“It’s going to be okay, We're going to get you help,” Louisa said, her voice somehow absent of the terror rampaging through her as her free hand hovered over River’s chest, unsure what to do, where to touch without causing him further pain. 

She hadn’t seen him fall, only heard as he tumbled down the metal staircase outside Slough House. The thing was a death trap, abnormally slick whenever it rained and more than once Louisa had an oh shit moment when her boot momentarily caught on one of the grates. It was only a matter of time before someone fell to their death on it. 

But, of course, it had been River who had been the unlucky bastard to stumble down the stairs. River, who never met a mirror that he couldn’t break, a ladder he wouldn’t walk under, a black cat he wouldn’t pet. Now, as he lay crumpled and bleeding with his chest caved in on one side and his leg in angles legs weren’t supposed to bend, all she could do was hold his hand and wait. 

All she could do was hold his hand and pray. 

Louisa couldn’t lose him, not now, not after everything, not because he fell down the fucking stairs. 

She squeezed his hand harder. It was clammy under her touch, rubbery, not like River at all. River’s hands were warm, warm and comforting and safe. She touched his face with her other hand and he looked at her again, his pupils blown wide and begging her to help, begging her to take away his pain as his breaths came in uneven gasps and his chest shuddered and sputterd to an unholy rhythm. 

Louisa squeezed his hand harder and didn’t let go, not when the ambulance arrived, not when Shirley tried to pry her away, not when they loaded him into the ambulance and covered his face with an oxygen mask and shoved a needle into his chest to inflate his collapsed lung. Louisa didn’t let go until three orderlies at the hospital held her back as she screamed and wailed and tried to follow into the operating room. 

Her hand felt cold without his and Louisa felt all hope slip through her fingers like grains of sand as she collapsed crying onto the floor of the hospital and tried to catch her breath. She was in the same position when Shirley and Catherine found her, her chest heavy, her breathing laboured, her world shattering around her. 

“Can’t–breathe–” she shuddered. 

With surprising strength for her size, Shirley shoved Louisa into a chair and then pushed her head between her knees. 

“You’re having a panic attack,” she said, her hand firm between Louisa’s shoulder blades. “Follow me, alright? Inhale–hold–exhale–and hold again. Okay, again, inhale–hold–exhale–and hold. That’s it.”

By the time Louisa could breathe again, Lamb had arrived, Roddy and Coe trailing behind him like two sullen teenagers who just got told they couldn’t meet their friends at the mall. Catherine shoved a bottle of water into Louisa’s hand and Shirley left her hand firmly on Louisa’s back, but they were nowhere near closer to finding out anything about River’s condition. 

All Louisa could do was sit and wait and try to remember how to breathe.

I really want to do my end of year sappiness post right now so I am going to do it. This year. This year, this year was the year that the fact that I made it is something I have to talk about it, because honestly I wasn’t sure between everything. And in the trauma (the activated Jewish Trauma Genre), in the hate I have also found love. Am Yisrael Chai. We live. I live.

Which is why I have to first send my love to my Jewish Mutuals/Friends and to Jumblr - @cephalopodvictorious @captainlordauditor and just, every one of my Jewish Mutuals and people who have sent kind words. Who have made me, a patrilineal mizrahi jewish woman reconnecting with her heritage and faith because of abuse feel Jewish enough to go to Synagogue.

This year was, despite everything the year I reconnected with old friends (shout to my friends in physical space - E, R, C and C), I took an art class, I swam more, I wrote a bunch of words, I found my love of art again and discovered that I might, might be good at it, I even asked for things like gifts even though it’s Terrifying.

It was a boring Saturday morning, hyynjin just woke up and went to the kitchen where he'd usually find 3racha, only to see no one there. That's why it's so quiet, He thought.

He texted chan to ask where they went and got the short and expected reply of "the gym." Hyunjin rolled his eyes and started preparing a bowl of cereal, just as he was about to push the spoon in his mouth, the menace of skz, his beloved puppy, called.

Hyunjin picked up the call, "Minnie?"

Seungmin didn't say a word. Nothing. The only reason Hyunjin knew he was actually on the phone was because he could hear the chewing...

Hyunjin groaned and tried again. "Seungmin??? I know you're there, I can hear you eating."

He only got a giggle in reply, and the chewing continued, which just made the ferret get more annoyed.

"Seungmin, I swear!" Hyunjin whined. Sure, he could just hang up, but he knew that Seungmin will just keep calling until he blocks him. He just wanted to get it over with now.

"Swearing is bad." Seungmin stated.

Hyunjin could practically hear the smirk in his voice, and was currently thinking of the best way to get the puppy back. "Seungmin. I have absolutely nothing to do today and I swear I'll come right to your place and show you how funny I can be if you don't stop with this nonsense."

Seungmin giggled again and let out one last snarky comment before hanging up. "Whatever, grump."

Hyunjin was baffled for a minute before pushing that one spoonful of cereal into his mouth and grabbing his jacket, leaving the dorm immediately and heading to Seungmin's.

Without even knocking, hyunjin slammed the front door open, even just seeing Seungmin's shocked face making him smirk.

"You actually came?" Seungmin wondered out loud.

"I told you it would happen, not my fault you didn't belive me."

Seungmin was still too shocked to notice Hyunjin's sharp movements, and before he knew it, he was on the floor with hyunjin sitting on his hips. "What are you doing, crazy!?!"

Hyunjin laughed. "Me, crazy? I'm not the one who called only to chew and not say a word!" He poked Seungmin's side teasingly, grinning when the boy jumped and squealed.

"Hey! Don't do that!" Seungmin blushed.

Now it was hyunjin's turn to giggle. "If you didn't like that I bet you're gonna hate what I'm gonna do next." He poked seungmin's tummy this time.

“you’re doing that on purpose!” seungmin whined.

Hyunjin smiled. "Yeah, that's kind of the whole point of this tickle session.

Seungmin's eyes widened with relization and he started squirming and giggling in anticipation. "No! Pleahahse!"

“i am not even touching you yet!” Hyunjin laughed.

"Lehet's kehehep it that wahahay" seungmin asked hopefully, hands held up infornt of his body protectively.

"Yeah... I don't think so." And with that, Hyunjin dug into the younger's belly with all his might, beaming at the cute boy screaming and kicking underneath him.

"NOHOHO! I'M SORRYYYYY!!!" Seungmin laughed out loud, already unable to take the intense tickling.

"Are you really though?" Hyunjin asked teasingly, giving seungmin a quick "break" by only softly wiggling his fingers on the boy's tummy and knees.

"Yehehes!" Seungmin said, hoping to get this done quickly. Hyunjin however, had other plans in mind.

"Too bad, I'm not feeling quite ready to stop yet." He shrugged, then a smirk slowly formed on his face when he thought of something. "Hey, Minnie?"

"Whahat?" Seungmin tried catching his breath, not liking the mischievous look on Hyunjin's face.

"How many ribs do you have?" Hyunjin's smirk only got bigger and bigger as he watched seungmin starting to struggle and squirm right after the question was asked.

"No! NO! Absolutely not!!!" Seungmin couldn't help the smile growing on his face.

"It's an innocent question!" Hyunjin protested.

"As if!" The younger argued.

"Tell me!" The ferret warned, his fingers beginning to flutter over seungmin's neck.

"Wahahit! I dohont know!" Seungmin panicked and started shaking his head.

"You don't? Well I should probably check for you, so that you know for your next doctor visit!" Hyunjin smiled and pat himself on the shoulder. "What a good friend I am. Arms up, now!"

Seungmin shook his head. "No way!"

"It's either you put them up, or I call Lee know hyung to hold them up for me, you know he will." Hyunjin shrugged again. "Your choice."

Seungmin groaned. "Fine!" He brought his arms up slowly, and immediately brought them back down with a giggle as soon as they were all the way up. He kept this going for a few minutes until Hyunjin finally got impatient.

"Kim seungmin! Arms up, right now! Last chance!"

"Fine!!!" Seungmin then put his arms and and took a deeepppp breath, and just as he was in the middle of taking that satisfying breath-

Bam! Hyunjin began digging into his ribs. Counting out loud. It took all the power he had to not bring his arms down, and somehow he was succeeding.

"One... two... three... careful! They're coming down! Four..." when hyunjin reached the 7th rib, seungmin let out such a scream, which made hyunjin stay there for a while longer than he was planning to...

And by the time hyunjin reached number 12, Seungmin was cackling, his arms half way down. So hyunjin did what every good friend would do, and quickly pushed his hands into both of seungmin's armpits.

Seungmin screamed and let his arms down. Flopping around in silent laughter.

Hyunjin giggled. “you’re too cute.”

And with that, he got off of the boy who now had tears in his eyes.

"You... you almost killed me!" Seungmin caught his breath.

"Oh don't be dramatic! You had at least five more minutes before you'd even pass out."

Seungmin mumbled an answer, staring in shock as hyunjin stood up and put his jacket back on. "You're leaving? Seriously."

Hyunjin smirked. "You want me to stay that bad? Nah, we're both gonna go eat out together. My treat, for almost killing you, ya know?"

Seungmin smiled softly. "I guess I did kinda start it..."

Hyunjin laughed and ruffled his hair, helping him up. "Yeah, you did."

The both left the dorm shortly after, seungmin already thinking about how to get his revenge...

What's your favourite episode of 13's run and why?

Ok! I surprisingly enough do have a favorite episode… but it’s by such a small margin I’ve made an executive decision to talk about 2 other of my favorites episodes and then a few honorable mentions and why I love them

I’m half sorry for how long this is, I’m fully sorry for the fact that it took a while to actually put my thoughts to words

We’re starting with my absolute favorite because that’s what was asked lol. The Power Of The Doctor is my favorite episode, the plot is fun but it’s really the characters that make me love it so much! Every character that shows up is used really well.

Yaz is absolutely the star of the episode. I love her in every episode but especially in this one she shines a lot. She takes charge so well and really does fill the docs shoes with flying the tardis and making the plans and all that jazz. Her interactions with everyone is amazing to watch but especially the master, their dynamic is so interesting to me! Mandip also does a great job portraying emotions in this one- her anger at the master, and sadness about 13 regenerating in particular is one of my favorite parts. Also yaz with a gun is hot, and I fully believe she woulda shot the master if he gave her a reason so this episode would be in my top five just for that

Speaking of the master! This is 100% his best appearance. The dancing, the outfit, his interactions with yaz being a mix of cruel and endearing, in a way? Maybe that’s not the right word… interesting at the very least. The way he talks to her like they’re friendly, like they both know the doctor very well… kinda like they’re two sides of the same coin, in a way?

13 is lovely in this episode. A) I ADORE the navy version of her coat and am so happy they brought it back in the inbetween cliff (or whatever that was) B) her regeneration might just be one of my favorite scenes, even if it pains me to watch (ignoring 14’s existence for this) and the hologram is so smart (btw does yaz still have that? Do you think it activates still?) also love the fugitive doctor appearance even if it was hologram form. Her comforting yaz, their conversation, the icecream <333333

Love ace and Teagan and vinder, they’re all great but especially ace is SO FUN and I love her interactions with graham(did they flirt?) who btw, I love that he was right back! Too bad Ryan isn’t there tho, it’s fun to see how the dr leaving affects the companions, the bitterness Teagan holds is definitely a really fun bit that I’m glad they included. Also Kate is amazing as she always is! Dan wasn’t that bad either but I’m still glad he didn’t stick around

Also! I really like the plot! I saw someone complain about having all 3 cybermen, daleks and the master in the same episode but honestly it was just super fun- and the master was really the main villain with the cybermen and daleks as minor/background/subvillains. I much approve fun plots over anything else and having the master dance to Rasputin is very fun!

Onto The Woman Who Fell To Earth!

Yes, 13’s first and last appearance are my favorite episodes! This will be much less in depth but I did recently rewatch this one so it’s as fresh in my mind as the first.

I really like how… snappy they all are, in a weird way? The fam kinda mellow out through the series, especially Graham. Theyre all somewhat aggressive in this one and it’s very fun! It’s too bad grace died… she’d have made a great companion

Also the plot, the plot is great. 13 making her own sonic, not remembering who she is but knowing she has to help people, picking up the first humans she sees (which she has a habit of throughout the series, lol), being super smart! Just lovely! Also her in a suit is hot

“I’m calling you yaz, cuz we’re friends now.” Is 100% one of my favorite quotes too

Also Swiss army sonic should’ve been a running gag, it’s funny! I think that’s everything- my thoughts on this episode are very disconnected but oh well

My third favorite: the witch finders!

I’m not actually sure why I love this episode so much? Actually yes I do, soaked 13 is hot- that’s not the only reason tho, promise.

The fam is great, as always, but especially yaz this episode. It portrays how kind she is really well! 13 experiencing sexism and being pissed about it is also really cool, I kinda wish we got at least one other episode where it happened but I understand why we didn’t . Also the king being gay for Ryan is funny as fuck and I didn’t notice it my first watch

The background(side?) characters are also really good- the possessed lady is a fun antagonist, and the king is wonderfully incompetent at his job.

Also 13 telling them not to interfere and then immediately interfering is fantastic. I don’t think I have much to say about this one? I just really like it

Honorable mentions!

The timeless children, solely for the scene with Graham and yaz being family and for yaz being halfway to the portal by the time Graham is done asking who’s first- tbh this is my least favorite appearance for the master and I think the cybermasters are stupid so

Arachnids in the uk I love yaz’s family, i love jade, i love that the bitch ceo gets schooled by women in stem and yaz’s mom, i like that when asked if she and the doctor are together yaz’s response is “we’re [just?] friends!” But when asked the same about ryan it’s a very emphatic “no!”, I love “more of the universe… more time with you.”

Demons of the punjab “we can’t have a universe with no yaz!”, young umbreen is so much like yaz it’s amazing, i love yaz in this episode (this, ive realized, doesn’t say much, I love her in every episode), the plot is really fun and again i love yaz’s family

The legend of the seadevils my beloved gays. The characters are all really fun, the plot is great, all the thasmin moments I love and they hurt my heart, and Dan has a stupid outfit!

Eve of the daleks once again: my beloved gays! The plot is so fun, and even though the side characters aren’t my favorite I still really like them

Fugitive of the judoon FUGITIVE DOCTOR MY BELOVED <333333 also Jack is cool

I personally think nightmare only cared to study very specific subjects like history, theater, and especially botany and dendrology (the study of trees and plants)

also he isolated himself from all social interaction for 500 years, so he wouldn't even know how to carry on a proper conversation, and might defer to things he read in his books.

Like all of them are smart to me in different ways but how the fandom makes Killer out to be a stupid bitch (and even sometimes make him act like a child) makes me wanna punch the wall

That’s why I take it upon myself to portray him as the clever bitch he truly is just like in canon <333333

And omg I absolutely love your Nightmare hc!! I absolutely especially adore the fact he’d be interested in studying botany and dendrology!! Like I always loved to think Nightmare has an emotional attachment to trees but I never really thought about him studying it as a field!! That’s honestly so fucking cool hell yaaaa!!!

To me I like to think he studies almost everything, he just loves to learn new things, as long as he gets to read a new book he’s up for it, that’s where I think Nightmare’s smarts lie, in his ability to store so much information in his head, and a vast knowledge of a variety of things and how to apply them in his daily routine that’s applicable to himself

But yeah socially?? No luck at all wheeze, like to be able to be strategically and socially intelligent you need to actually interact with the outside world, which Nightmare never does in his entire damn existence

Like to me Nightmare can be good at planning missions and whatnot IN THEORY, but I wholeheartedly believe he never does it alone without Killer in the picture, cause listen he might not be socially intelligent but he’d definitely realize how smart Killer is in such things, and Killer would be able to tell whether such plans can even be applied in the actual field and be put into practice/action, plus Killer would definitely know how to give ideas that can give them the element of surprise, Killer’s always been pretty unpredictable and I think that unpredictably has definitely taught him a few tricks, and like can we talk about his meta knowledge?????? *flashbacks to that one Core Frisk comic where Killer basically says some insane shit that’s literally impossible to know that even Nightmare questions it*

And no like “defer to things he read in his books” is so real shhzhxhhz, that’s how I think Nightmare lives on a daily basis, he just tries to apply his theoretical knowledge to the real world, but the thing is, no matter how much knowledge you hold, you won’t be truly good at something until you put it into actual practice, and that practice needs to be constant, Nightmare never carries any convos or even gets social with anyone, there’s no way he actually genuinely understands how to communicate with people xhxhhdh

Like any social intelligence Nightmare has to me is more associated with his fear of the world around him, his fear of becoming helpless/ defenseless again, so he might look out for anything that might pose a threat to him, but even then he’s still bad at understanding how to apply such knowledge in the real world

Anyway, Killer is just way smarter than Nightmare and the fandom needs to start acknowledging it 😔✌️✌️

when I started shipping it if I did:

I wanna say a couple months ago? I think? the earliest perfectdolls reblog I did was early june and that makes sense since I got into RTC in april, so I've shipped them for roughly that long :)

my thoughts:

LOVEEEEE <333333 My darlings my favs they are WONDERFUL I could talk about them foreverrr

I think they have SUCH a fun dynamic with tons of potential like okay so Jane and Ocean, ADORE, the beauty of Ocean's character development coming from seeing the human in a lost girl with no identity and sacrificing her own motivations to give someone she never even knew the chance is poetic PERFECTION AGH <3 the love is just so complex and beautiful I could SCREAM, then we've got RTC fanon Penny and Ocean, so essentially Penny the blank canvas, which I also ADORE, I love seeing their dynamic with different Pennys since every writer has a different take on her

BUT ANOTHER THING. TELL ME LEGOLAND PENNY AND OCEAN AREN'T WONDERFUL. like you've got this girl who has ultimately done some fucked up stuff but doesn't swear, is very anxious and is trying to be a good person, and then little miss perfect over here with her high and mighty attitude THAT IS A WHOLE COMBINATION I LOVE (and will explore in my next multichap I mean what cough cough)

What makes me happy about them:

I think they have such cute potential, just from seeing how Ocean starts to soften to Jane's presence within the show but also outside of that, it's two girls who have done fucked up stuff, whether it was justified or not, finding each other and healing in a way. They have kinda similar backgrounds, and I think they would really ground each other. They just complete each other in that way, Ocean has the determination and outspokeness that Penny needs to stand up for herself and be confident, and Penny has that deep understanding and care for other people that Ocean needs (both for herself and to learn from)

What makes me sad about them:

THEY ARE SO TRAGIC. THEY ARE PEAK TRAGEDY TO ME. I WILL NEVER STOP WRITING FUCKED UP POETIC RAMBLINGS ABOUT HOW FUCKING SAD THEY ARE.

Ocean's sacrifice, letting go of Jane and in the process her only chance at life, just to let her last moments go towards something good, Jane leaving the girl who learned to care for her too late, the intrinsic separation between the two of them and life and death, two lovers who can never be together AGH IT'S SO GOOD. I think they are perfect for absolutely heartbreaking angst, cyclone accident included or not, and it will always make me weep

things done in fanfic that annoys me:

This is more of a general thing for RTC fics but it does annoy me in perfectdolls fics especially - Ocean's flaws being ignored. I totally get not wanting to delve into hard-hitting character stuff and redeeming her in a realistic, detailed way, sometimes you just wanna write some fluffy lesbians, I get that! But I do feel like some perfectdolls fics kinda butcher Ocean's character entirely to avoid having to address she's flawed or even that she's more than just a blushy mess in a romance scenario like she's always VERY outspoken and loud and energetic I just can't see her being shy, sweet and agreeable while also ignoring ALL of her faults

it's easier to gloss over her character being simplified when she's not the main one in a fic but it really bugs me when people just. get rid of the bad stuff with no explanation or even acknowledgement. and you really can't get away with that when she's half of the main ship in the fic. my only exception for this would be future AUs, like if they're in their 20s I think you're fine to move past that but still, OOC Ocean pisses me off in all shapes and forms

I think Penny is hard to write OOC because most fics don't use Legoland!Penny and thus have literally nothing to go off, so remarkably Penny characterisation doesn't ever really bother me, AS LONG AS SHE HAS CHARACTER. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GIVE BOTH OF THESE GIRLS A PERSONALITY.

okay I have ranted enough now 😅

things I look for in fanfic:

BACKSTORY. I FUCKING LOVE PERFECTDOLLS BACKSTORY. ALSO ANGST.

perfectdolls have great slowburn potential but sadly I do not have the patience for slowburn unless the fic is incomplete and I'm reading updates as they come out, so with oneshots and stuff I look for solid characterisation, probably post-cyclone but I'm not too fussy with that, some good build up and context, and just a lil bit of spice yk just a dash for some flavour

in a general sense, with fanfic I'm always looking for getting together, in universe, probably friends to lovers although rivals can be good, and like a maximum of 20k words

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: 

CDPLAYER 💞💓💖💕 MY LOVES. yeah if Penny is not with Ocean she is 100% with Tammy I love them DEARLY <3333

Ocean is a tricky one, I think I would be happy for her to end up with Constance, I'm not a huge blackrose shipper but I'm never mad at them as a side pairing in other fics, I would be comfortable with them together if not perfectdolls, although generally if I'm not writing perfectdolls Ocean won't end up with anyone

My happily ever after for them:

This one is hard because almost everything I have written or come up for them that has an ending always ends badly 😭 I have never written them a happy ending before oops

I think, them living together in the city in their twenties, both of them chasing their dreams, going to college together and moving in together afterwards, I think that could be cute

hmmm again the fact I only ever think about sad ass prompts for them is failing me 😭

this is more of genre of activities rather than a particular one but intimate non-sexual self-care is probably super important to them, like washing and brushing each others hair, doing their routines for each other, meditating together, just simple very close things to take care of each other

I think both characters can have tendency to neglect themselves and be detrimental to their own wellbeing (whether that's self neglect in pursuit of perfection or self-sabotage) and so I think taking care of each other in a sweet and healing way would be their favourite

for more generic answers I think they love doing things together, whatever it is, they love to be productive together like running errands, organising events/hang outs, volunteering (animal shelter perhaps?) and they are DEFINITELY the kind of people who love coexisting while doing their own thing, like doing homework in silence in the same room is precious to them, Penny listening to music while Ocean studies or plans whatever she's got her heart set on, and they would definitely call just to have each other on the phone even though they aren't talking
