Its members comprise of Taneo, Mo, Jao, Tomas, R-ji, and Alas. They debuted in 2021, and their creative direction centers on championing the Filipino identity and culture through their music.

personal opinion: the music video is great but i personally think they have better songs, music-wise. and i'm going to give you an example of that by introducing you to my ALL-TIME FAVORITE ALAMAT SONG!!!

ILY ILY, a transliteration of "Ili-Ili Tulog Anay", incorporates the melody and lyrics of the Ilonggo lullaby it derives its title from. The MV and lyrics both work together to portray the experience of being an OFW/having an OFW parent. OFWs, or overseas Filipino workers, refer to Filipinos who go abroad in search of jobs that have better pay, so that they can remit money back to their families in the Philippines.

personal opinion: this is their best song THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG EVER OF ALL TIME and lyca gairanod is such a perfect singer for this. her ethereal crooning really gave me chills the first time i heard it UGH

DAYANG, the term for the wife of a Datu, is one of their most earworming songs ever. It's a gorgeous love song and what I would recommend to newbies if they want to get into alamat <3

personal opinion: The MV is kinda ass because it's just a super long extended ad for DITO PH (in terms of story and also bc they really missed out on doing a vid that drew more on culture esp bc dayang is a historical noble title and they used tausug words and designs for the graphics an the dance itself already incorporated pangasik dance which is also from the tausug people LIKEEE?? they've always promoted other cultures of the philippines i know they can do it but because of CAPITALISM--). But the song bangs so severely, as a pop enjoyer this is peak pop for me.

DAGUNDONG, a song basically recounting the colonial history of the Philippines from Spain to America, is just so fucking good you should watch/listen to it rn. There's EN subs don't worry you won't miss out on the context. This is colonial rage it's so satisfying I still remember where I was when they dropped this.

personal opinion: this is their most pop-sounding song, which i think is slightly carried by the video i'm sorryyy. it's catchy though!! and i looove the part somewhere halfway where alas starts his verse, singing it in a more spoken-word way

also i wanna talk abt this frame, its the one that shows up in the parts where firefly is “ripping out” (ill get back to it) the pages of the bucket list journal. it shows during the lyrics,

“Let me stay awhile, stop the world from moving on / And I’ll cherish all the memories ‘til they’re going, going, gone”

and at first, i thought the top part was skirt folds from firefly’s outfit but after i rewatched it a few times, i realized they’re actually firefly’s bangs, and we’re basically looking through her eyes as she rips apart the journal and i just think thats such a powerful few seconds because it dips in focus a lot and shows just how emotional she is, how much hurt she feels about the hand she was dealt.

ok i described it as “ripping out” earlier but the way her hands are placed looks like shes just crumpling the paper, and doesnt actually plan on ripping them out, and i feel like theres so much nuance in that bc it shows that even though she holds the memories she made in bittersweet regard, she wouldn’t just reduce them to shreds in a fit of indignation. that conclusion is even further supported by the fact that we never see the notebook being ripped; this is the last time we ever see it (but lets not think about the implications that brings).

ok i also wanted to talk about these because the entire time, the mv is presented in an alternate universe where the characters go to school and arent, yk, traveling the cosmos. but we can still see how the trailblazer is wearing their iconic jacket and fingerless gloves, so it tells us that we’re back in the star rail universe we know and love. we also know that we’re in penacony when TB fights SAM for the first time bc of the fire around them and the scenery behind the TB. thats not the main point tho.

notice how there are green marks on the left photo; it looks like we’re looking at the trailblazer from SAM’s point of view, and the text saying “DESTROY” repeatedly means that SAM is going haywire. so perhaps, the mv’s story is meant to parallel the main story?

Bubble Gum - NewJeans

With HYBE collapsing in on itself and ADOR being the epicentre of the explosion, a part of me was a little afraid that NewJeans' comeback would take a hit in the quality department. From the first bars of 'Bubblegum' I knew I had been worried for no reason.

'Bubblegum' is an early 2000s synth fueled record with an edge of 80s Japanese citypop. It's groovy, simplistic, and effortless in execution, and while it isn't necessarily an innovation in NewJeans' notoriously trend-setting discography, it's still a welcome addition that capitalizes on the members vocal tones and the group's style beautifully.

The music video is gorgeous, as usual, with it taking notes from the raw, realistic nature of 'Ditto' and the colour-pop confidence of 'Hype Boy'. Danielle looked especially gorgeous in her natural curls, and Hanni's sharp bob is so striking - she looks like an anime heroine, and I love it.

I know we've all heard the phrase 'I think I just made the song of the summer' a little too much these past few years, but I am of the opinion that NewJeans has successfully achieved it with 'Bubblegum' - it's been a whirlwind year so far for me, and something easygoing and chill like this is exactly the energy I will be bringing into the hotter months.

Even though they have made ripples in the kpop industry, it seems nobody can do it quite like NewJeans.

해야 (HEYA) - IVE (IVE SWITCH)

Coming off of the mildly contrived 'Baddie' and the shockingly beautiful 'Off The Record' from 2023's 'I'VE MINE' EP, I wasn't sure where I was going to stand with IVE's comeback. Once again, I was pleasantly surprised.

'Heya' is a track with a chorus melody that makes such perfect sense that you are left amazed that nobody has thought of it before - its so easily catchy, and being 100% real, it's been stuck in my head since the m/v teaser. The construction of this song is honestly very impressive (Dem Jointz is the arranger so this is unsurprising), every vocal or instrumental motif pokes it's head in and reappears in an effortlessly perfect way, even the raps aren't jarring, a pitfall many a kpop track have fallen down before.

Functionally, this song is the perfect response to 'Baddie': that playful edge they centred in on in that track is still present here, but IVE have returned back to home base a little more and drawn from that elegant, untouchable concept they built in their iconic debut trilogy. 'Heya' understands the elements that saved 'Baddie' from succumbing to unlistenability, and knows how to use them redirect back to the right track without discarding the lessons learnt entirely.

While I don't think this song has reached 'After LIKE' or 'Love Dive' levels of perfection for me, it's still a super fun song for IVE, and absolutely a step in the right direction.

(final note: does anyone else feel like this song samples 'flashing lights' by kanye west?? does anyone else hear this? like at 45 seconds?? maybe im slowly going insane idk)

Midas Touch - KISS OF LIFE

Kiss Of Life seems to just know exactly what they are doing, and the music is just getting better and better. The Britney edge and old SNSD flair on this track is right up my street, and all the members just give their all on this song, their talent is so consistently clear.

Their seemingly exponential growth in popularity and success from debut is so well deserved, they are truly setting the standard for the quality of music of the 5th generation; they are proving with every release that kpop does have more to offer, there is more innovation to be made.

My grievances at this release being a single album aside, this was a perfect comeback in my opinion. Congratulations Kiof for graduating nugudom, I can't wait to see what you do next.

Impossible + 9 Days + One Kiss - RIIZE

And just when I thought I would never enjoy a boy group release again, RIIZE dropped 'Impossible'. The audacity to release something as fucking amazing as this like 3 months after 'Love 119' (which i controversially loved)??? Insane.

This track marks SM's latest addition to their arsenal of iconic house bangers, 'Impossible' revitalizes everything that made Shinee's 'View' and f(x)'s '4 Walls' so good for the 2024 music scene. It has that late night BBC Radio 1/love island pop edge to it that I have been yapping about for months, and I am so obsessed. This is how to compete with Somi's 'Fast Forward' for the most british sounding kpop song.

'One Kiss' is a sonic sequel to 'Love 119' - I am just so obsessed with how much they sound like an early 2000s western boy group on tracks like this, they just exude NSYNC energy. '9 Days' is another laidback pop hit, with a little more energy and longevity than 'One Kiss'. The sound of 2024's summer in kpop has clearly been established, and I for one am in favour.

RIIZE being the first boy group to last more than two comebacks on my stan list is really something I didn't see coming, but it's a welcome change.

SHEESH - BABYMONSTER (BABYMONS7ER)

I think babymonster may start to be delegated to the mini review section of these monthly reviews, because I am genuinely struggling to find something likeable within this song. 'Batter Up' at least had a danceability to it, even if it was highly derivative, but 'Sheesh' is just so predictable to me. Even the switch up from the standard YG party final chorus felt formulaic somehow, and the mini album wasn't much better.

Ahyeon is back though, and she proved once and for all that she is absolutely a necessary part of the group - her rap was easily the song's highlight. The performances from this era were genuinely excellent considering what they were working with.

I don't like being a stuck record with groups I just will never enjoy, so I apologize, but discussions around their future releases will be limited going forward, unless they drop something that I actually enjoy.

Pre2: Flower Rhythm + Pre3: Candy Crush- ARTMS (Dall)

There is something about modhaus production that just works for me, and the interpolation of Heejin's 'Algorithm' on 'Flower Rhythm' is a really exciting choice. The verses, post-chorus and bridge are very strong in my opinion, but the chorus itself seems to get a little lost in the sauce. I can see that chorus growing on me however, and the rest of the song is highly enjoyable, very evocative of the yyxy sub-unit.

Haseul's 'Plastic Candy' is one of my favourites from the ARTMS girls' releases, and with it's interpolation in 'Candy Crush' means I am predisposed to be obsessed with this song. It's a little jazzy, a little citypop, and it's the perfect late night summer vibe. This is easily my favourite of the pre releases so far, but the sheer array of styles the girls have demonstrated makes me very excited to see where they go for the title track.

Girls' Night - Loossemble (One Of A Kind)

LOOSEMBLE AND ARTMS RELEASES IN ONE MONTH??? WE WON

Loossemble's 'Sensitive' was pure pop perfection, and the album was just as impressive, so going into 'One Of A Kind' and its title 'Girls' Night' I just knew they were going to deliver.

'Girls' Night' is a classic LOONA type track, a total kaleidoscope of sonic innovation, and it stuns throughout its 3:24 runtime (we love long songs). My girl Yeojin got PINK HAIR, Vivi got a lore update, and Gowon unlocked her irish ancestry - overall a 10/10 in the visuals department. The rest of the album is an actual masterpiece; 'Moonlight' is a banger that caught me off guard by how good it is, 'Boomerang' has an addictive almost hyperpop edge - it's very evocative of Yeppi Yeppi by aespa, or even Paradisin' by Rina Sawayama. 'He Said I Said' plays it a little too safe in the production department in my opinion, and it comes off a slightly childish for them - it's a perfectly enjoyable song, but probably the weakest on the album. 'Truman Show' brings in a more acoustic sound, which builds with the synth to create a truly cinematic feel - it has a ballad vibe, but keeps it on the upbeat side, so if kpop ballads aren't your thing, you still might enjoy this one. 'Starlight' is a perfect album closer, and although it will never be my favourite LOONA song with 'Star' in the title, it's a really beautiful song. This was a really successful album for them, and I can't wait to see what else they bring to the industry.

MINI REVIEWS:

SPOT! - ZICO feat. JENNIE: I was fully prepared to lie and act like this was a masterpiece before I listened because it has my queen jennie in it, but when I actually heard it I was pleasantly surprised with an absolute certified banger. This has that TripleH - 365 Fresh energy that I love, and Jennie's amazing vocals have made me so excited for what shes going to do with her solo work at odd atelier :)

Could It Be + Freak - YUQI ((G)-IDLE): I've never been a huge (G)-IDLE fan, so 'Freak' really wasn't my vibe, but 'Could It Be' had a Sunmi-esque edge that draws me in somehow. Having heard a snippet on TikTok, I also listened to the b-side 'Red Rover', and it's a real standout, make sure to give this one a listen if you only heard 'Freak'.

Blush - woo!ah!: i am in denial thay the official group name is now WOOAH, why are we erasing herstory?? Anyway, 'Blush' really blew me away - this song is so fun, every second is packed with memorable melodies and beautiful production, and that post chorus??? a killer!! SO underrated, if you haven't checked out this song yet this month, be sure to, it's an underrated song that I can see making it high in my yearly ranking.

고민중독 - QWER: Sapphic themes?? in a kpop music video??? with a girl BAND??? yoasobi vibes??? of course i was going to love it! I had never really heard of QWER before this month, but this song is such a banger and the pop rock sound is immaculate - ( @a-moth-to-the-light this feels very much up your street) I will 100% be checking out their discography, and I can easily see these girls making a home on my stan list, this track is truly amazing.

Final Love Song - I-LAND2 Contestants with ROSÉ: This is the kind of kpop song that makes me understand why this genre is so bullied. What are we doing. Rosé sounded good I guess. Moving on.

IMMM - ILY:1: Such an unexpected groovy sound - big Momoland energy. Pretty much everyone is eating up these April releases, even the nugu girlies are bringing it more than usual. I'm slightly worried about the lack of music video or promotions, but this song is really fun, so please go stream and show ILY:1 some love :)

maana janab ne pukara nahi has this fun vibe which is so fitting because yes he'd be super teasing but somehow also successfully manage to announce to everyone listening how you're like 24/7 on his mind and how obsessed he is with you. the way the guy is trying to woo the girl in the movie; i just see him doing that so vividly ESPECIALLY how he steals her racket for a bit

similarly, accha ji mai haari (he just gives so dev anand core); the fun beats and chaotic vibes of the convo/lyrics WHEN HE DOES THAT FAKE ACCENT THING IN THE SONG it's literally eunseok. watch the mv and argue with the wall tysm and idk why but the lowkey pessimistic questions/debates he poses to the female lead seem so perfect for him

on a serious note, gum hai kisi ke pyaar mein oh my god. the tutor vibes; him helping you out with songwriting - you both know the other wants you but you're both too prideful to actually make something happen and hence you hide behind the symbolism and metaphors of the song :/

also him performing rimjhim gire sawaan at like a formal-ish event. his only purpose is for you to know how much he's fallen for you but ofc he can't tell you that.. lowkey thinking of this with him having feelings for you while you're betrothed to be with someone else... the classic forbidden love story which would obviously end with the two of you running away <3

also imagine him serenading you with a slower song like ye raatein ye mausam holy shit. the twinkly beats and the soft music siiiiighs. he might not be great with words when it comes to you; but eunseok will make his feelings known come hell or high water. and he'd do it in the most gorgeous, artsy way possible too

VIBE is very much giving me 80s groove mixes, stripped back. Only thing missing is a Kenny G saxophone solo.

My favourite parts/timestamps:

1:55 - I love how they stripped back the instrumentals in Jimin's chorus so we really **hear** him. God, his voice. It's almost acapella and I'm glad Teddy had the sense to not bury that magic under useless synths.

2:17 - What is it with Jimin and bridges? He understands the assignment. Every single time.

Because I was aware of my bias going into it, I gave this song a few more listens than I typically do before forming an opinion. And like I suspected, the only reason I like this song is because of Jimin.

Taeyang gave me nothing to work with I'm sorry. The D'Angelo aesthetic failed to land, the only person who brought sauce to this joint is Park Jimin. I think even Taeyang, Teddy and co recognize that too, because though it's Taeyang's song and technically a feature, it feels like Jimin's song with Taeyang featuring. (The lines split is also smart from a business POV because it will get ARMYs and Jimin solo stans to buy/stream it more). Jimin has writing credits [*] so I can only assume he wrote his verses because the difference between his verse and Taeyang's is like night and day, and in Jimin's verse, the lack of gendered pronouns is something I can't help but notice.

In terms of jikook/ML collabs so far, I actually prefer this to Left & Right and Dreamers, but I like Bad Decisions more. So I'm giving this song a solid 6.8/10. It's a decent track and the hook is fun to sing. And thankfully, the song is short enough.

Frankly, if this single was supposed to whet people's appetites for Taeyang's album, it does the opposite for me, but it does do that for me with Jimin with PJM1. I **need** to hear more Jimin.

Anon in Ask 4, Taeyang has said there's a live performance so it's possible we get to see Jimin perform it live with him. (Jimin is blonde right now, in case anyone forgot)

Anon in Ask 5, you might not have heard, but ARMYs have a running joke that the tannies collab with people unlikeable to the fandom. I think a collab between Blackpink and BTS/any of the members is certainly possible (everything is possible in Chapter 2), but it will be a character building exercise for everyone involved.

Tied Together With A Smile 10/13 - Taylor's lower register in this opening of this song is simply gorgeous. very raw in a way. love the way she sings "and no one knoooooows!" the layered vocals are really interesting and cool, and i love the lyrics. favorite lyric is the penny in the rain one. you know the one. beautiful strings as well.

Stay Beautiful 13/13 - this is one of my favorites on the album! it's so cute and so bouncy and fun i just enjoy it so very much. i need to listen to it more often for sure, but i find myself coming back to it when i need to smile. perhaps it's because it feels personal and like something i'd write or say to someone to help them get through a hard day. wish i could hear it live.

Should've Said No 13/13!!! - my FAVORITE song on debut!!!!!! i hear those opening notes and immediately go wild. her country twang in this song is glorious and i love it so much. this song is faster and has a rock-kinda feel to it along with its country roots and i think that makes for an interesting combo. the music video is amazing as well, one of my favorite MVs from taylor. favorite part is definitely the bridge. we love a good taylor swift bridge. Heya, Storm! How have you been? Are you still alive after Set Me Free PT 2?? That poem that was tattooed on his body freaking caught me by surprise and the chills that I got when I watched the MV for the first time.

And this is just the start! We have yet to see Like Crazy. We have yet to experience his album in its full glory, but all I can say is, Jimin is god-tier.

I have high expectations for his album bec I know he will surpass that. How is it possible for him to be even more gorgeous? It's crazy how much I adore him.

My favourite fan-cover of Additional Memory~ ❤️

I’m going to show this fan-cover ft. Denatsu Sora, a UTAU made by creator Rhea/Ragey. The fan-cover is mixed and tuned by Minoru.

Sora is my fave UTAU from an EN-speaking fan creator. Her voice and tuning are SO powerful.

The OG by Miku is more fit to the melancholic an somber tone of the song, but I prefer this fan-cover for the voice and tuning quality. It’s SO good. Denatsu Sora has an amazing powerful voice and growls.

Ragey has one of the most powerful UTAUs I’ve ever heard. I’m blown away by how strong the tuning and voice are in Sora's voice???

Minoru did an excellent job mixing and tuning Sora for this song.

Intro

Outer Science is song no. 14 of KagePro that released in August 2013.

2 years later...

Additional Memory is song no. 16, Ayano's song, that released on September 14, 2018.

It's about Ayano's feelings of grief and regret.

It is one of my top fave KagePro songs and MVs, cuz despite the simpler compositions in it, the visuals and video editing are absolutely gorgeous.

I think Additional Memory might just be my 2nd favourite KagePro MV. I love it sm…

I was originally planning to post my Outer Science doc first, but since it's so long it has to be split into multiple parts, I might as well post this one first.

For my other fandom mutuals, if you don't know much about KagePro and are tuning into my rambles, I recommend watching the MV so that my rambles on the visuals makes more sense.

未来の走馬灯 (Mirai no soumatou) The flashing images of my future

How the backgrounds in the beginning and in the chorus keeps flashing/transitioning between each other as a reference to the “revolving lantern” (走馬灯, Soumatou) → Referring to the phenomenon of “images flashing before your eyes (before death)”

Soumatou (走馬灯) → The lyric “Flashing images of my future”

The entire MV is very literally flashing images of Ayano’s “future” (death) by having the backgrounds of the school constantly flashing/transitioning between each other

Because, after Ayano’s death, her classmates set up flower vases on all the desks in remembrance of her and to honour her memory

I'm so sure this MV is using something powerful like Ad*be After Effects. Or at least something similar

It’s also possible Blender is being used for the effects with the 3D flowers and desks

In the beginning, Ayano unwillingly watches the memories of her and Shintaro in the red sunset in the Kagerou Daze (this exact scene being a parallel to Losstime Memory).

Ayano reaches out for Shintaro's hand for comfort and Shintaro rejects Ayano's affection (and regrets it after her death)

I love how the camera is panning through the field of flowers (chrysanthemums)

Sidu's MVs are so fucking brilliant

So good, holy fuck...

In the beginning, Ayano's scarf moves much slower.

The way the screen splits in half and the blood splatters... They match the colour of her scarf...

Also in the animation effects where the screen splits in half, I love the action speed lines...

With the blood splatters scene, too, her scarf gets blown in the wind slower.

But during the majority of the chorus, it gets blown around in the wind much faster.

Ayano stands in a field of chrysanthemum flowers, where classroom desks fill up the ceiling above her.

Sidu's sketchy style is so good. For each frame, she sketches different sketchy lines, and putting all these frames together evokes the feeling of movement. But Sidu does it so perfectly, it feels like moving action lines

The chrysanthemums moving up and in and out of view (some getting closer to the camera) really does give a 3D effect

The colour grading and chromatic abberation effects in this MV... Omg...

The classroom desks in the sky are also slowly falling out of place into disarray. The “sky” is breaking apart.

Because of the 3D classroom desks filling up the “ceiling” or “sky” and the 3D chrysanthemums.

...

Ayano wears a red scarf because she was always inspired by the heroes she saw in cartoons and aspires to be a good, protective older sister for her siblings (the original trio, Kido, Seto, and Kano).

In the song, Ayano's Theory of Happiness, there's this lyric:

”Red capes are for heroes”

...

I love the use of minimal colours in this MV, it's mainly in black, white and red cast with dark shadows and gradients.

(Aside from certain background shots like the red sunset with ShinAya, and the blue sky of the rooftop)

Sidu MUST be using something really powerful to make these MVs, like Ad*be After Effects.

Especially since the KagePro MVs are professional animation projects, they're storyboarded and everything.

And this explains Ayano's and the ShinAya ship's HEAVY paper crane symbolism...

The transition to the blue sky dropping down and casting Ayano in muted, somber blue tones is so perfect

Also thinking about how Ayano has her arms the same way a corpse would be during a funeral with the flowers around her…

Parallels

I first watched this MV as a kid at 12 years old.

So I want to put a few things here just for visual comparison.

So, one more thing I thought about was how, years later, Additional Memory decided to parallel the scene from Losstime Memory where Shintaro sees a vision of Ayano falling from the school rooftop upside down.

Ayano's Feelings and ShinAya Subtext

Burnt out gifted kid and cynical pessimist who didn't see any meaning in his life cuz he'd always ace everything and felt that even if he disappeared, then someone would replace him

So Ayano always tried to cheer him up. She’d take his ripped up test papers and tape them back to make paper cranes for him, and she would fold papers into paper cranes for him.

This is Ayano's Kagerou Daze (how the Kagerou Daze appears to her). It takes the form of the school in which she spent her happiest and saddest days, and where she died.

I love how all the classroom desks form the "Sky" of her Kagerou Daze

Misc Rambles

Something about the way Ayano will sacrifice herself for the sake of a loved one... In the hopes that it'd stop Saeru's plans so that her family and friends won't be targeted...

And Ayano's association with the colour RED.

Shintaro

Shintaro was a burnt out gifted kid that didn't see the point in living after his friends (especially Ayano) died and was just waiting to die

Ene tried to inspire hope in him by becoming his friend, acting more cheerful and optimistic on person (after remembering her friend Ayano's words that Shintaro needed someone cheerful and optimistic and outgoing to carry him along).

After Ayano's death, Shintaro fed into his cynical pessimism and shut himself off even more and was constantly dreaming of coming to meet Ayano

Shintaro spirals into depression and becomes a shut-in NEET after losing all 3 of his closest high school friends on the same day, August 15th - Ayano, Haruka, and Takane

All 3 of your friends just gone. All in one day. That's devastating

Kuroha/Saeru, in most routes, is almost always indirectly responsible for their deaths. He is indirectly responsible for/orchestrated their deaths in most routes (ie. Music Route, Manga Route 1, and Novel Route, Anime Route)

The only time Kuroha/Saeru isn’t indirectly responsible for the Yuukei Quartet's deaths in some way, is in Manga Route 2 Iirc

One thing you'll learn about KagePro is that this mf (Kuroha/Saeru) is responsible for almost everything bad that happens. He's literally the cause for the majority of KagePro's conflict/tension

Which trial's song from each prisoner is the better one?

Fun thing I thought I'd ask myself. Since most song vs. song debates come down to character preference how about we just pit one character's songs against each other? Tee hee.

Haruka - All-Knowing and All-Agony is my pick. The piano melody in the background is honestly just breathtaking. As much as I overall like Weakness' guitar and harmonies, i think AKAA is overall the better product.

Yuno - Tear Drop. The chorus just absolutely bangs and the synths are so good. This is a very slight win because honestly Umbilical is kind of on the same level in my mind - they're both similar in the vibes department, but have different strengths. I also have to give props for being the longest T2 song by far.

Fuuta - Backdraft. I'm pretty neutral on Fuuta as a character which makes me not listen to his songs quite as much... Extremely slight win, 'cause I like it's consistent level of energy. Ask me tomorrow and I'll probably say Bring It On (the last chorus especially is so damn good). Fuuta's CV's voice is an absolute treat.

Muu - After Pain. I was obsessed with this song when I first got into Milgram and still kind of am. It just sounds so uniquely 'lonely', conceptually extremely sad and yet somehow cheerful. It fits Muu's character really well. I also love INMF for it's isolated vocal moments where Muu's CV can really bring her all into it, but overall, this is my pick.

Shidou - Triage. I've never liked Throw Down all that much because it's always sounded almost Too normal and neutral to my ears. Triage has this soft melancholy in its instrumental and somber vocals during the verses. And also, that final chorus... OUGH. I can see why someone would prefer Throw Down, though.

Mahiru - I Love You. I really like how this song played with everyone's expectations when the previews came out. Mahiru rapping is so fun and really works compared to the cutesy idol-like chorus. The lines before the final chorus and the double-voiced rap part leading up to it is also fantastic. TIHTBILWY has instruments I like a bit more, but kind of suffers in the interesting concept department IMO.

Kazui - half. Gonna be a contrarian here, but this song has always been one of my favorites. It's very unique in Milgram's selection of songs with its slow, soft melody and almost minimalistic instrumental compared to the others. It sounds sad, Kazui's CV is so soft with his voice and yet expressive. Besides, it's a song about unrequited love. This was made specifically for me I feel. Cat is also really, REALLY good, i love Cat, but. Half. !!!!!!!!!!! I blow up

Amane - PURGE MARCH. DO I NEED TO EXPLAIN MYSELF. I like Magic, but it pales in comparison to this song's mixing, its chanting, its concept, its MV.. GAHH!!! THE AMEN BREAK?????? The verse repeating the 'commandments' over Amane's singing? What else do you want me to say. This is a banger.

Mikoto - MeMe. Harder metal instrumental = me likey. The chorus is gorgeous, and the back-and-forth between the two styles is especially great. I prefer Mikoto's CV's voice in Double, but I can't say I prefer Double because it's just too damn short, not to mention it only being 2 verses and 2 choruses with a long speech break. I love Double, I really do (also because a piano is always good), but... MeMe has the tightest grip on me.

Kotoko - Deep Cover. I've never been the biggest fan of Harrow. I love Deep Cover's gimmick of counting the prisoners and the Undercover mirroring, plus it has Double's appeal with the bridge before the chorus sounding angelic. I wouldn't say I love it, but it's really good.

And . yup. Umm. Feel free to do this too if you'd like and you can fight me on my opinions i am objectively right always. Forever. Btw. Farewell

Hi Puts!! Thank you always for the prompt updates <3 I'm so happy we're getting a new album from Wakana, I'm so excited!! I watched the teaser, and I'm in awe of the whole scenery and location, it's so beautiful. The song's melody is also interesting, it intrigues me especially with the title. But I have to say...why was Wakana in that outfit? I feel it didn't suit her at all, especially with the scenery. It looked so out of place, and I might be harsh, but it looks like a school girl's outfit with the collars and different shades of colours. Wakana why??? T^T Anyway, I was thinking, after watching Keiko sing with her guitar in her instagram lives, I really hope she ventures into making acoustic renditions for some of her songs. Imo, I feel that some of her songs are quite beautiful if played in an acoustic setting. What do you think Puts?

Hello there!

The location for the "Butterly Dream" MV is indeed gorgeous. Not sure if you have seen my comment on this but I believe the video was shot at the Oya History Museum, a former stone quarry in northwestern Utsunomiya…It’s the same location where Kalafina shot the MV for “Kagayaku Sora no Shijima ni wa”. If you ever visit Japan, I can recommend checking it out! I went there with a bunch of other fans back in 2019.

😅 Uhmmm...I couldn't disagree more regarding her outfit. I actually love it 😍 Based on what we have heard and seen of the song, this flamboyant and childlike get-up perfectly matches the vibe and surreal atmosphere. The lyrics suggest that this is about an escapist dream full of fantastical things ("fish like fireworks in a vast and endless sea" etc) so having the protagonist appear as a splash of colour in an otherwise dark but mysterious place makes sense to me. And since there is reference to a "Butterfly" in the song title, one could argue that the look was purposefully chosen to resemble a real butterfly with its big, wide sleeves, the cinched waist and the flowy skirt. Not to mention, this outfit is so on-brand for Wakana, it's something she would totally wear in her personal life so it's fun to see her own style reflected in her music video. I'll agree though that the different shades of red are a little off-putting but it doesn't bother me too much.

As for Keiko and her guitar playing, yeah, absolutely! Even though I am not the biggest fan of the acoustic guitar, I would love to get official acoustic versions for some of the songs she has been practicing. Maybe she can release a little EP with a handful of acoustic tracks or something? Or she could do another professional live session just by herself? I hope we'll get at least one more event this year where she can show off all the progress she has made🙏
