multisetter thought dump for tonight is i think what largely makes them appealing to me is the juxtaposition between them

normally if characters are too different i'm kinda turned away by it but graham and cathal seems to strike a balance where its like, yeah they're different from each other but not so much to the point where they repel each other. graham wants to be around cathal even if it's trying to get to him through means of a competition, and while cathal is unimpressed by graham's bs i wouldn't say he necessarily dislikes graham. he might be annoyed by his antics, sure, but i don't think he'd continue talking with him or agree to go along with his ideas if hating him was the case. i mean, think about it: this is the same guy who doesn't even wanna bother getting up and walking 5 ft across the room in his intro cutscene and commented on how big the flights of stairs are. dreamland and sellbot headquarters have a noticeably far distance on the map. it's one of the furthest places from each other, in fact, and you're telling me cathal chose to fly all the way over there, presumably run down twilight terrance's windy street or find a way to cheat through its shortcut, win, and probably deal with graham's reaction during the aftermath instead of doing anything else? be for real.

overall what i'm trying to get at is i think the two of then are good for each other even if the their relationship is somewhat rocky in the beginning due to their respective personalities being different from what they're used to. i think at the end of the day they can learn from each other and grow bc both of them developed some pretty self-destructive habits, likely as a result from the environment they were built in, but on widely opposite ends. graham is prone to overworking himself to the point of collapse whereas cathal's nepotism and being provided everything on silver platter made him apathetic towards everything around him. therefore graham would benefit from getting into the habit of taking it easy now and again instead of being constantly on the grindset/move thanks to cathal, and cathal would benefit from dispeling the 10+ layers of apathy he's developed and not slack off 24/7 thanks to graham

So I just decided to render the speedpaint videos for this month's Patreon rewards and instead VLC corrupted all my files when I tried to convert them from mkv to mp4 and it overwrote the originals so now I have nothing, lost all the process of the two illustrations I had done and it's almost the end of the month and I have to paint and record the process of two new illustration in a couple of days before I have to leave on a trip 🙃

The reason why au!michael had to be the one to possess Dean in season 13 is that if Michael had to possess another vessel Adam would be So Fucking Annoying about it. There’s nothing else on the planet that can make him jealous. Every single step Michael takes in Deans body Adam is waiting there just like “That it? We good? Alright let’s go come on. What, you need an official yes again? Yes, yes, yes, Ja, Sì, Oui, Tak. I would say yes in enochian but I think it would blow out the windows.” And Michael just has to sit there like. “The task is literally not complete yet, me and Dean still have the deal.” And Adam just collapses like a widowed housewife from the Second World War. Power imbalance and graceless human nature be damned, Adams about to pick up a crossbow and kill Lucifer himself just so Michael doesn’t have to spend another minute with Dean. He sees Michael possessing Dean as a punishment on Michael because he thinks Dean is that fucking annoying. Adam the type of guy to write “When will Michael return from the war?” In his journal.

Okay, now I'm thinking of a florist itfs au where Mamagumi had a flower shop and when she died, Toji decided to take over the business so he could keep his beloved wife's memory alive. He also remarried Tsumiki's mother because he thought Megumi needed some family structure, even though he didn't love this other woman. But Miki's mother left, which left Toji with two kids and a business to take care of.

Then Meg and Tsumiki grow up and take care of the flower shop with Toji.

Then one day Yuji, who was from Sendai and came to live in Tokyo with UncKuna (who is a surgeon because in my head it makes sense), meets Megs and is so enchanted that he makes the flower shop his favorite place while he adapts to the busy life of the capital.

Oh, and Gojo is Megs and Tsumiki's meddling godfather who is in the story because Toji needs to yell at someone other than his childrens.

Junpei and Yuji are online best friends who finally met, and Nobara is the gossip queen who will smile mischievously at Megumi whenever Yuji shows up.

Let's talk about Abin Sur

Chances are, you might only know him as the pink alien who crashed his spaceship, recruited Hal Jordan to be his successor, and then promptly shuffled off the mortal coil to hang out with Uncle Ben, the Waynes, and all of Krypton.

And in the original 1959 version of this story, that's really all there was to old Abin. It was a simpler time in comics, and this new version of Green Lantern was being introduced in an anthology series that was basically DC throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what stuck well enough to spin off into its own book. Consequently, there wasn't much need for Abin to be anything besides a source of exposition. Details like a one-off spaceman's home planet or species just weren't important enough to spend ink and paper on.

But when Hal proved to be popular enough to carry his own title, the extraterrestrial nature of his powers meant that quite a lot of his adventures took place on other worlds. Whether by accident or intention, the writers established that the Green Lantern ring allowed its wearer to fly freely through outer space.

Which of course begs the question: Why was Abin Sur in a spaceship when he crashed on Earth?

Perhaps that's why a couple years later in 1962, the same creative team did reveal a little more about Abin in the story "Earth's First Green Lantern!"

In the expanded account of his demise, Abin was possessed by an energy being which was trying to force him to free its comrades that he'd imprisoned for robbing other species of their intelligence (it was the Silver Age). He tricks his enemy by telling it that his ring doesn't have enough power for the flight, which is why he was in a spaceship. He is able to defeat the energy being but shortly after their fight, the ship flies through a field of yellow radiation, which blinds Abin and causes him to crash on Earth.

(This story also establishes Abin Sur's home planet as Ungara, and that he was still a history professor while also being Green Lantern, presumably to make him feel more like an actual character than a flat plot device)

For over two decades, this was the canon version of Abin Sur's death. He went out heroically while fulfilling his duties, but otherwise wasn't particularly remarkable as a Green Lantern. His most important role was still dying in Hal Jordan's origin.

Marvel certainly seemed to think so, when they created their own "space cop" superhero in 1976. They quite literally copied the broad strokes of Green Lantern's origin for Nova, right down to the dying alien predecessor.

Now, Richard Rider is hardly a carbon copy of Hal Jordan, and one day I'll tell you all about the man who stood when all else fell, but the reason I bring up the Nova comic is that it has very rarely been a priority for Marvel in the same way that Green Lantern is for DC, and especially lacks any development of its nonhuman cast. Consequently, Rhomann Dey is kind of like a time capsule of what Abin Sur was like before all the retcons to his character.
