¿What do you want me to do? — Cha Hyun-su

pairing: Cha Hyun-su x fem!reader
genre: fluff.
warnings: tension between hyun-su and reader (?), kissing
a/n: this fic is about if it was you instead of Eun-yu in THAT scene of season2 ep8 of sweet home. when monster Hyun-su starts asking Eun-yu what should they do or, what does she want him to do.
You were on the hospital with Hyun-Su, Eun-yu, and the soldier Chan-young. Hyun-su just had a fight with monster Yi-kyung, he was all covered in blood, and right now he was sleeping in one of the hospital rooms. This is the first time that you could properly see Hyun-su after what happened on Green Home, it has been months since the last time you saw him. You and Hyun-su had a “thing” before, both of you liked each other, but nothing actually happened.
“Is he even alive?” the soldier said standing up from his chair. “he has been lying on the floor for the past 25 minutes”.
“Maybe he is just tired, Yi-kyung noona was a very special person for him” you explained.
“Go check on him, y/n” the short hair girl suggested. “Probably he will speak to you”.
“Okay” you simply answered.
You opened the door of the room, now seeing an awake Hyun-su sitting on the corner of the small bed.
“Cha Hyun-su” you said, no answer. “Cha Hyun-su…”
He turned his head, opening slowly his eyes and looking at you. They were now a beautiful blue color, but that just could mean one thing, the Hyun-su you knew, was gone.
He stand abruptly from the bed, looking into your eyes and walking towards you. Was he going to hurt you? No, Hyun-su would never do that. You took a bar of metal that was on the floor, you know, just in case.
“Are you going to hit me with that?” he asked.
“Bring him back” you said firmly. “Bring Hyun-su back, now”
“His hurt, leave him to rest. I was just helping him out because he was hurt. Give me a break” Hyun-su said looking at himself in the mirror. His shoulder was hurt, it had an open wound and it was still bleeding. But a few seconds later, it was completely gone.
“Wasn’t Hyun-su in control?” you asked him.
“I’m also Hyun-su”
“Not you, the real Hyun-su.”
“We agreed to help each other, it wouldn’t be great for me if he died” the monster explained.
“Just leave him alone and get lost” you said without hesitation, you wanted to talk with your Hyun-su.
“Really? Would you be okay with that?” Hyun-su said coming closer and closer to you. “Would you be okey with Cha Hyun-su who is weak?”
“Yeah, i will be totally fine with that Hyun-su”
He was now inches away from you, his tall and strong figure almost covering yours. Hyun-su lowered his head in a way that now his face was on the same level as yours, his eyes were scanning your face, and you were just standing still.
“What are you doing?” you asked almost in a whisper, nervousness covering your body.
“I don’t know” he paused, a cocky smirk covering his face. “What do you want me to do?”
He came to your face even closer, his lips almost touching yours. You didn’t now what to answer, it was like your voice was totally gone. Having Hyun-su this close was a new sensation that your body was actually enjoying a lot.
“I bet that he haven’t even kiss you before.” Hyun-su said laughing a bit. “I have to admit it, we have good taste, ‘cause you’re a pretty pretty girl…”
“Then do it” you whisper softly, the words just slipping from your mouth.
“As you wish” he answered.
His lips crash directly into yours, one of his hands cupping your cheek while the other one was holding your waist. Your hands were on his neck, trying to pull him closer and feel every single part of him on your body. This was the first time you kiss Hyun-su since what happened on green home, and god, you’ve miss him so much.
You broke softly the kiss, opening your eyes now to see normal Hyun-su back, his brown eyes with a look of surprise and his cheeks getting red.
“I’m glad your back” you smiled, your hands going through his hair and pulling him into a hug.
“Did he said something mean to you?” Hyun-su asked worried.
“No he didn’t, but he did something you didn’t do before…” you answered.
“I didn’t knew if you still like me…” he said looking down, his hands now holding yours. “I needed a boost of confidence to prove it and he was the only candidate i had”
“You could just ask Eun-yu, you know she is my best friend” you said smiling.
“I did, and she told me to discover it by myself” you laughed.
“Well, now you do know how i feel about you” you told him, his head hiding on the crook of your neck. you loved how shy he got around you.
“I missed you” he said now looking at your face. “I was always thinking about you, you were on my mind all the time”
“I’ve miss you too Hyun-su, but please… don’t leave again” you told him, almost begging him not to leave.
“I won’t leave, not when i have you here with me again”
You pull him into a hug again, you could stay like this for ever, with him.
“I love you” you said to him, watching his cheeks become red again. “Why do you get all shy when i say cute things to you” you asked laughing.
“You make me nervous” Hyun-su laughing with you. “I love you too”

[Hyunsu x Fem!Survivor!Reader / Sweet Home Season One]
Warnings: Depression, ED if you squint, Cha Hyunsu needs a hug, Self loathing, Eunhyuk is an ass in this, Kissing, Hyunsu is baby boy - .
Plot: You and Eunhyuk have been best friends for as long as you can remember, but your eyes are on Hyunsu. You comfort him as he goes through a hard time after going on missions for Eunhyuk.
Story under the cut!
"What does it matter to you if he's in pain or not? He's a monster who could turn at any time. He's in there to protect us."
Eunhyuk paced around outside Hyunsu's room he was confined in, scowling at you.
"(Y/N). This is my last warning. Don't get close to Cha Hyunsu. He'll only hurt you if he turns. I need to protect you-"
You sighed, angrily folding your arms, tears building up in your eyes. How could Eunhyuk, your best friend, be so cold towards another? Hyunsu was basically a prisoner in this place. They made him work all day and night exploring the building and fighting monsters, leaving him exhausted when he got back. At this point, you doubted that Eunhyuk even fed him or took care of his half healed wounds.
"Ya, Lee Eunhyuk, how could you be so thoughtless? Hyunsu has done nothing wrong. He's still human, like you and me! How could you lock him in that room and starve him?! Not to mention leaving him to heal by himself!"
You yelled furiously, really upset. You were the only one who dared approach Hyunsu, and you could tell he wasn't doing well mentally or physically.
"He isn't a human. He's a monster. I can't risk you getting hurt trying to fix him."
Eunhyuk stated calmly, unfazed by your outburst. He grabbed your hand and placed it on his chest, over his heart.
"I'm doing this for you. Feel this? My heart beats only for you, so why? Why are you so obsessed with Cha Hyunsu?"
His voice seethe with jealousy. Ah. So torturing Hyunsu was Eunhyuk's way of showing his jealousy. You always knew that Eunhyuk had a crush on you ever since middle school. But as you grew older, his attitude became more stoic and stern.
"I don't give a fuck about your little crush on me, Lee Eunhyuk. You've hurt my Hyunsu, and you're going to pay for it one day. Leave me. I'm going to see him and you can't stop me."
And with that, you walked away, entering Hyunsu's room. Eunhyuk was stunned and angered, but knee he couldn't stop you. You'd soon find out not to trust a monster. As you stepped inside, you softly called out,
"Hyunsu?"
He immediately recognised your voice and ran over to you like a lost puppy. His averting eyes and soft voice made your heart flutter. He rubbed his arm gently, mumbling.
"(Y-Y/N)? Oh...hi."
Hyunsu greeted, his head hanging low. You were appalled by the mere sight of him. He had torn clothes, bruises everywhere, half healed cuts, and looked genuinely exhausted.
"Hyunsu...how have you been?"
He looked down, gulping nervously.
"Fine.."
"Cha Hyunsu. You don't look fine...how long has it been, sweetheart?"
His head snapped up in confusion.
"How long since what?"
"How long since you've rested and had a meal?"
Hyunsu anxiously twiddled with his fingers, unable to keep still. Over the past week, you'd become someone very precious to him, ever since you'd stopped him from ending his life. He didn't want to tell you the truth. He didn't want you to worry about him...but Hyunsu knew that you'd find out eventually.
"Five days, noona..I haven't slept..the monster..it's hurting.."
He whispered sadly, unable to contain his depressed thoughts. He continued,
"I'm a monster. Monsters don't sleep or need food, right? And I'm In here because I'm a threat to everyone. Noona, it's dangerous, you should leave."
You were stunned; to see such a sweet person talking down on themselves felt extremely sad. Hyunsu's eyes filled with tears as he turned away from you, prompting you to move closer, until your front was completely up against his back. You back hugged him, snaking your hands around his waist.
"Hyunsu...you're not a monster. You're our savior, I can't imagine how exhausting this has been for you. To protect everyone. all while keeping a distance, unable to interact properly. I'm sorry about Eunhyuk and the others. They don't understand."
A tear slipped down his sunken cheek.
"Hyunsu - ah, I've brought you some food."
You said, breaking the hug and offering him some ramen. Hyunsu's eyes went wide as he saw the food. He was starving, but didn't want to trouble anyone anymore.
"I'm a monster. I won't die if I don't eat."
He stated simply, turning back around again.
"But..Hyunsu..that doesn't mean you won't feel hunger."
"I'll just...not eat..."
He insisted stubbornly. You sighed angrily and lifted his chin up with yoru hand suddenly.
"Cha Hyunsu. Eat. Eat or I'll force feed you. Then get some sleep. I'll lay with you."
You ordered him gently, but firmly, glaring into his eyes. He finally gave in, grabbing a few pieces of the ramen from you before retreating to his bed. You pulled up another chair and sat next to him, watching him consume the noodles. After a moment, he put down the bowl and turned to face you.
"Thank you, Noona...nobody else had bothered to visit me.."
Hyunsu got up from the makeshift bed and leaned over, placing a soft kiss on your cheek. Your face burned bright red as he shyly and softly kissed you.
"God, Hyunsu. Stay safe on your missions for Eunhyuk, okay? You're mine. And I don't want you hurting what's mine."
Hyunsu could've died. You. his Noona...liked him? Even if he was a depressed, tired monster, you accepted him.
"O-okay..."
Hyunsu smiled, taking your hand in his. You ruffled his hair.
"Good boy."
Eunhyuk stares at the door.

warnings: reader talking down on themselves, filled with angst/hurt
forlorn - cha hyunsu
Cha Hyunsu was so good to you.
His touches were gentle and carefully thought out. He knew how to read your mood and he dealt with it well, never going too far but also making sure not to leave you high and dry. Hyunsu was considerate, and damn it, you loved it.
You loved all of it.
You loved the way he touched you. Your favorites were the smallest gestures. The way he would lightly put his hand on your back when he noticed you were upset about something, and how if you truly needed it, he would hug you so tight you couldn’t breathe. But it wasn’t uncomfortable or painful, it was needed. Sometimes you needed to feel that secure—tightly held against his chest with the false certainty that everything would turn out alright and nobody could get in the way of that.
One could never forget his voice. The sweet nothings he would whisper in your ear, so hushed that even you could barely hear it. But it was so peaceful, and for a moment, it made you feel like you two were the only people left in the world. Feeling such a way was… nice. Even if it was just for a few minutes, there was a certain bliss that came with the warmth of his soul and knowing that you had it all to yourself.
He cared for you so deeply that you often found yourself questioning how his fondness for you could grow to be so strong. You would think back on the countless nights he would stay up for hours to make sure you were okay, waiting out your moods with nothing but patience and worry. He never resented you for your emotions. In fact, he embraced them entirely. Your emotions were his, as he had once said, and heaven forbid that you go to bed upset because it would only hurt the both of you.
Cha Hyunsu was too good for you.
You were selfish. God, you were so selfish. How did he do it? How did he so effortlessly invest all that he had into you and your sentiments? You had tried so hard to put the pieces together—to understand—but even with your best attempts, you couldn’t manage. Hyunsu would give up everything for you, so why was it so hard for you to do the same?
Your feelings were ugly and brutal, so harsh that sometimes you felt they would harm him. But he dealt with them so effortlessly and so graciously and so lovingly that you felt suffocated. Why did he have to be like this?
Why, why, why?
Things would be so much easier if he would just leave you alone and allow you to process things by yourself. Let you bury your feelings until they explode and you cry to yourself for hours on end questioning why and how you managed to feel so strongly with nothing to show for it. Absolutely nothing to show but an empty mind and a lonely heart, both so agonizing but so much easier to deal with than this.
This sense of guilt that you weren’t sure how to overcome. He was so perfect, so patient. And you were not.
His kisses were always tender and shy, coming from lack of experience but making sure that you knew he was trying his best for you. He always looked at you with a sense of empathy that only a few could achieve. This empathy that he gained through terrible experiences, but he used it in a useful way because, in his mind, you deserved it.
The weight of your remorse was becoming too much for you to bear. He carried your overwhelming emotions on his back while masking his own with such ease. You knew there was something wrong, so why didn’t you ask him about it, damn it?! It shouldn’t be so difficult to hide your emotions just this once, mask them like you were able to do so effortlessly only months prior so you could focus on his feelings. You wanted to show him that you would love to reciprocate his endurance and regard.
But you didn’t.
You broke and revealed your inner self once more, laying yourself bare on the table for him to see all of you. Your imperfections and those goddamn repulsive emotions that you would sacrifice everything for just to go away.
To no one’s surprise, like always, he treated you as he does every time.
“I love you,” you whispered with cracked lips. “I’m sorry.”
His eyes made contact with yours, and the slight tug of his lips caused the corners to crinkle in a way that you adored. He looked at you with so much devotion it hurt. And then he kissed you, taking your breath away with a single motion. Even though they were chapped, his lips always seemed so soft in comparison to yours. His kisses never failed to hold passion and emotion. It was like he was breathing in all the feelings he had so desperately held inside each time and it was so beautiful—fulfilling, even.
When he parted, he simply brushed a strand of hair behind your ear that had somehow gone astray. Then he looked at you once more and nearly blinded you with that same smile. “Please don’t ever apologize.”
It made your lips quiver and you couldn’t help but cover your eyes with your arm.
Love was truly a beautiful thing.
God, you thought. Why does he make you feel this way?
If you were to tell him how you truly felt, would he understand? Pouring out all of this emotion, going on about how remorseful you felt—how ineligible you were for him. Threads of complicated thoughts put into simple words falling out of your mouth, finally spilling the sentence you had been wanting to say for so long.
“Are you okay?” He reached forward to grab your elbow. Ever so gently, he tugged at it in a soft attempt to get you to remove your arm from your face. This only made your lip shudder more.
Hyunsu, you deserve so much better.
But you couldn’t bring yourself to say it out loud. Your heart knew he would understand, but your head convinced you otherwise. This was an issue you had to work through by yourself, it was foolish of you to think that you could share it unwarranted.
Love was beautiful, but your character was not. Despite his past, there was a part of your boyfriend that shined so brightly. You feared that showing him too much would cancel out such a delightful feeling, so you swallowed the smallest tremble of your lip down and sat up straight. You forced yourself to look at him and mustered up the brightest smile you could.
“I am. Thank you.”
With a slide of his hand down to your own, he faintly brushed your knuckles with his thumb. You shuddered at his touch, gulping down the lump that had unfortunately balled up in your throat. It seemed the deal was sealed.
Perhaps some thoughts were better off kept to yourself.

Sweet Decay
TW: Mentions of blood, dead bodies, character death.
This is a sweet home angst au!
Word count: 1.2k
Cha Hyun-su woke up to the sound of dripping.
He lays there for a moment, letting the darkness settle in his eyes. The room smelled of mildew and iron, the kind of stench that never quite faded. His body ached. Every breath felt like swallowing glass, but that was normal now. Pain was just another sensation, like hunger, like exhaustion.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
Something warm and thick ran down his cheek. He reached up, fingers brushing against the sticky wetness. Blood.
His?
Maybe. Maybe not.
He pushed himself up, wincing at the dull throb in his skull. His apartment was in shambles. Broken glass littered the floor, reflecting the dim glow of the emergency lights. The door hung loosely on its hinges, as if something had tried to claw its way inside—or perhaps, something had clawed its way out.
Hyun-su exhaled shakily. The silence pressed against his ears, too thick, too loud. He should check on the others. See if Eun-yu was still alive. See if Ji-su had found a way to hold on. See if Sang-wook was still standing.
He needed to move.
But then he saw it.
A shadow, standing in the corner of the room.
Still. Silent. Watching.
His breath caught in his throat. His fingers curled into fists. The emergency lights flickered, casting jagged shapes across the walls. The shadow did not move, but its presence seeped into the air like poison.
“Who’s there?” His voice came out hoarse, barely above a whisper.
No response.
Hyun-su’s heartbeat thundered in his ears. He took a slow step forward, muscles tensed, ready to run or fight. But as he drew closer, the shape unraveled, breaking apart into nothing.
Just the darkness.
Just his mind playing tricks on him.
Again.
Hyun-su let out a breath and rubbed his eyes. He needed to get a grip. The infection was inside him, writhing beneath his skin, whispering in his ears, but he wasn’t gone. Not yet. He still had control.
Didn’t he?
---
The hallways were empty.
Hyun-su moved through the shadows, every footstep echoing like a gunshot in the quiet. The scent of rot clung to the air, the remnants of death and something worse. He kept his eyes forward, ignoring the shapes that seemed to slither at the edges of his vision.
Something was wrong.
He could feel it in his bones.
The stairwell was covered in blood. Smears of crimson painted the walls, streaked in frantic patterns. There had been a fight here. No bodies, just the aftermath.
Hyun-su clenched his jaw. His fingers twitched at his side. He should turn back. Find another route.
But then he heard it.
A voice.
Soft. Faint.
Calling his name.
“Hyun-su…”
His breath stilled.
It came from below, curling up the stairwell like smoke. A whisper, familiar and distant all at once.
His mother’s voice.
His hands clenched. His nails dug into his palms.
It wasn’t real.
It wasn’t real.
He stepped back—
And something grabbed his wrist.
Cold fingers, thin and trembling.
He turned sharply, heart slamming against his ribs.
It was his mother.
Pale. Hollow-eyed. Standing right there, in front of him.
She smiled. It was a horrible thing, that smile. Too wide. Too wrong.
“You should come home,” she said.
Hyun-su staggered back, ripping his wrist free. His breath came in short, shallow bursts. This wasn’t happening. This wasn’t real.
“You’re dead,” he whispered.
She cocked her head. “Does that matter?”
His throat closed. His vision blurred at the edges. His mother took a step forward, bare feet silent against the floor.
“Hyun-su,” she murmured. “It’s not so bad. Just let go.”
A sharp, stinging pain coiled around his skull. The whispers inside him grew louder.
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
His hands trembled. He pressed them to his temples, nails digging into his skin. He couldn’t listen. Couldn’t fall into it.
He squeezed his eyes shut.
When he opened them again—
She was gone.
Just the blood.
Just the empty hallway.
Hyun-su stumbled back, chest rising and falling in sharp, uneven breaths.
He needed to move.
---
The survivors were dead.
Or maybe they had never been there at all.
The apartment complex was a graveyard, rooms filled with ghosts and echoes of things that should have never been. Hyun-su walked through the wreckage, his reflection trailing behind him in broken shards of glass.
His fingers twitched at his sides. The whispers were louder now.
He had been fighting for so long. Holding on by fraying threads. But for what? There was no one left.
He wasn’t even sure if he was still here.
Something shifted in the corner of his eye. A flicker of movement.
He turned—
And saw himself.
Standing there, at the end of the hall.
Black veins curling beneath pale skin. Golden eyes gleaming in the dim light.
The monster inside him.
It smiled.
“You’re tired, aren’t you?” it asked.
Hyun-su swallowed. His throat felt raw.
“You don’t have to fight anymore,” it whispered. “Just let go.”
His hands curled into fists. His breath came ragged, unsteady.
“I’m still me,” he said.
The monster tilted its head. “Are you?”
Hyun-su exhaled sharply. He turned away, forcing himself to move. One step. Then another.
The whispers did not stop.
The darkness stretched long and endless ahead of him.
And somewhere, in the depths of his mind—
A door creaked open.
And something else stepped through.
---
Hyun-su didn’t know when he started laughing.
Soft at first. A quiet chuckle bubbling in his throat, like a secret whispered in the dark. But it didn’t stop. It grew, stretched, twisted into something else. A jagged, hollow sound that scraped against his ribs.
His knees buckled. He fell forward, hands catching against the bloodstained floor. His reflection stared back at him in a shard of glass.
It grinned.
Not his face.
Not anymore.
Black veins pulsed beneath his skin. His eyes flickered, golden light bleeding through the cracks. The laughter didn’t stop. It filled the empty halls, curling around him like smoke.
He was so tired.
So tired of fighting.
So tired of pretending he was still human.
The whispers were no longer whispers.
They were his own thoughts.
You were never meant to survive.
You were always meant to become this.
Hyun-su dragged a trembling hand across his face. His mouth ached from smiling. His chest ached from laughing.
He understood now.
The struggle had been pointless.
There was no one left to protect. No reason to fight.
The monster had won.
And maybe, just maybe—
It had been him all along.

Hi I saw you added sweet home to your list, could you do Any fic or something where the reader hurts his ankle or something and hyun soo and his monster are being overprotective please?
BOTH SIDES
Cha hyun-soo X GN! reader
Warnings: mentions of injury, S2 spoilers, kinda comedic
A/n: I know this is probably not exactly what you had in mind but I wrote it in school. Again.
Note: bold: hyun-soo monster side.
Normal: hyun-soo
Italics and (): (hyun-soo in his head )
Bold, italics and (): (hyun-soo monster in his head )
You ran after Ah-yi, who had decided she'd ran off to chase some kind of monster while hyun-soo had gone to look for necessities.
She slid under a tall metal fence, you definitely didn't fit under that. You made the drastic decision to jump over it, and as you landed, you twisted your ankle.
"Fuck." You groaned and stood up with difficulty. "Ah-yi?!" You called for the young girl you had been chasing. She appeared from behind a tree, running towards you.
"Yes?!" She asked, her adorable smile on her face. You've been calling out for her for the past half an hour. Yet that's all it took. You inhaled sharply to compose yourself.
"We need to get back home, hyun-soo will be back soon too" you tried and to your surprise she agreed fairly quickly, she yawned and made grabby hands at you.
You sighed but picked her up, hissing at the pain that shot through your ankle in the process.
It took some time, and the kid had fallen asleep in your arms but you made it. As you neared, you made out hyun-soo's voice, looking for the both of you.
You limped your way up the stairs, careful not to wake Ah-yi up. "We're here." He immediately rushed to you. "Where have you been?" He whisper yelled at you.
"She ran off to chase something." You explained handing him the child.
He carefully took her to the small room behind him and tucked her in by the corner. You followed him slowly, closing the door behind you. You sat down in the opposite corner, a groan escaping you as you felt your ankle stinging.
"Are you okay?" Hyun-soo asked, moving to sit by you "I'm fine, just hurt my ankle it'll heal." He reached out to examine it but you pulled back "let me see?." He asked as calmly as possible
You shook your head "I'm okay, really."
"Let me see." You looked up, his eyes now a piercing blue colour unlike his usual calm dark eyes.
You threw your head back, resting it on the wall "Fine." You said gesturing to your ankle.
He checked your ankle, once you Looked back down, his eyes where back to normal and he was wrapping it with some gauze and tape.
"You should be more careful out there." He noted turning to look at you once he had finished his job.
"I'm sorry I was trying to get to Ah-yi. My ankle was the least of my worries at that moment." You defended yourself.
"I understand, but if something happened to you i-" (we.) "We don't know what we'd do."
You chuckled at the "we". You'd gotten used to his monster, you treated him like a friend and You never kissed hyun-soo while he wasn't in control.
You smiled and hugged the boy "I'll be more careful then. Promise." You assured. You felt him peck your cheek, then he leaned back, eyes closed and leaned in to kiss you.
You placed a finger over his lips "open your eyes." And he did. Just as you expected they were blue. You raised an eyebrow, and in a second your hyun-soo was back.
You pecked his lips and messed his hair a bit.
(Just once!) (Actually, shut up.)

══⋆✰* Dating Cha Hyun-Su Includes: *✰⋆══
A/N: In honour of the second season of Sweet Home, this was mandatoryyyy 😁 just started off with some relationship hcs first but feel free to send some imagine or other headcanon requests through my inbox for Sweet Home characters if you're into it! These headcanons cover season one and two. Enjoy reading 🖤
Warnings: Sweet Home series spoilers, mentions of violence
🩸• Starting from the beginning of this monstrous series of events, the most likely way you'll meet Hyun Su is at Green Home a bit before the monster outbreak and apocalypse comes along. All you'll see of the quiet, sullen young man is his weary, unfocused gaze that briefly trails up from the ground to glance up at you in acknowledgement as he bumps into you somehow while moving into his apartment in the complex. The only sign of his interest in you from first looks is his stare lingering for just a beat longer than he'd usually bother... and that's about it. Boy's too shy and broken and tired to feel like he's good enough to do much else, let alone have a shot at even being friends with someone like you, so he'll just admire you from afar every once in a while and leave you to live your life while he despises his.
🩸• HoWeVeRrR-
🩸• The apocalypse unleashes its hell before much else can happen, and before you know it, you two are out surviving in a ruined world riddled with horrifying monsters and mutations, hiding out inside Green Home as you form the group together with the rest and try to fight off the monsters inside the building along with it infecting and warping others into gruesome, inhumane figures.
🩸• This boy's absolutely damaged and drained from all he's been through before moving to Green Home, and so it takes a lot of energy for him to slowly, slowly break out of his shell and reach out to you in return. But he will. He just needs time and patience, and Hyun-Su will find himself making the tiniest amount of small talk when you're together with the rest of the surviving group in the apartment complex. Or, most likely, it'll be him giving you most of his food when you're eating by silently and gently pushing it over to you, no eye contact, no words.
🩸• Before you, he didn't have the slightest will or reason to live, and so the only idea he can think up while dragging himself around the wreck of Green Home along with the rest of the group of survivors is to follow you around and protect you. The way he wants to die is for you, shoving himself into the way of the monster or whatever else the danger is to take him instead. Hyun-Su's absolutely fine with that idea...
🩸• Until he starts falling in loveee- 😏🖤
🩸• Everyone gets used to the sight of this boy following around after you like a moon-eyed puppy, having a tall, slightly dropping shadow trailing behind your own whenever you go somewhere to find food or weapons or whatever you've been sent to find. From Season One, where Lee Eun-Hyuk tries forcing him to do everything and using his monster side as an advantage, if it involves steering clear of you or putting you in any danger, boy's had enough. Hyun-Su will defend himself in his own quiet but intense way, his dark glare bleeding into Eun-Hyuk's with a few mumbling words of a threat before he wanders off to find you again.
🩸• Hyun-Su does consider trying to completely leave you alone, since everyone's aware that he's dangerous with his monster brimming to the surface from inside of him and his other symptoms and dangerous instability being infected, but it feels like the worst form of torture. He's alone again, in a world grimmer than the last, and he has no idea what to do with himself except feel like crying and telling you everything about everything when you sit by him and ask him if he's doing alright.
🩸• I think that this guy would be mega touch-starved after living in isolation for so long after all the bullying and tragedies with his family, so having you as a comforting voice of reason and warmth is something he can't help but melt into after you've been unspoken friends during the apocalypse and doesn't have the fight left in him to reject you if you try to clean bloodstains and patch up his wounds after a nasty confrontation. After that, it's safe to say that out of the whole group of survivors together in Green Home, he'll always be naturally apprehensive and distrusting towards them all, but if it's you that's trying to point something out or is worried about something; let him go get his weapon, he's coming with you.
🩸• His general aim and instinct is to protect good people and be some source of help and comfort that's been so unfamiliar to him personally, but with you, instinct is boosted 10000000% because it's you. You're too good for this world, way too good for him, and if you die, he dies. This concept basically becomes something Hyun Su isn't even fully aware of until the point where you might almost die somehow being confronted by monsters with the others, which is where you'll witness himself having a full-on freak-out in his mind and using all his strength and darker, monstrous side to come out on top to save your life.
🩸• After the danger's gone and you're alone in a quiet room to recover and process what happened, that's all the time you need to make it official, hugging him tightly and thanking him, while Hyun-Su shakily pats your back in return before giving up and hugging you back equally as tightly, staying in a protected embrace as long as time will let you.
🩸• There's so much raw love and trust and protection in a relationship with Hyun-Su, it's unbelievable 😭 he's so clingy and sweet and ridiculously romantic in private with you until you point it out, which results in a blushing red sight and not being able to look you in the eye in bashfulness for about a straight hour before he gets over it. In public, it's still obvious that you're together, with smaller signs of affection and togetherness like holding hands, or doing that coupley thing where you whisper together in the back corners of rooms or give each other brief, subtle looks that say everything you need to understand what it means and where to run or go or something.
🩸• At first, he is a little reluctant to get too close to you because of that lingering fear of accidentally hurting you or his monster side popping out to ruin everything, but with some time and small steps, he'll eventually give up trying to be overly cautious and let him be wholly soothed by you, which was the biggest relief of all for him.
🩸• But just as you're getting properly closer and in touch with each other as romantic partners as well as best friends and survivors in this mess together, his monster alter ego personality will find it the perfect time to mess around with his head and find a way to overpower Hyun-Su, meeting you properly in the process.
🩸• Now, his monster side is a whole other story when it comes to personality, but if you think that means you'll be left alone or hated or something, think AgAiN, and then again, because no :)
🩸• Hyun-Su's monstrous side is darker, daring, dangerous, and with you, madly possessive and protective. I mean, he won't even try to hold himself back from taking things to extremes and spilling as much blood as necessary if he gets a weird vibe from someone around you, or if someone outrightly tries to attack you. Even if it's a monster like him, there's enough threat in thrashing them through a few solid walls and leaving some biting words behind before stalking off.
🩸• Monster Hyun-Su's a massive starer by the way, so those unnervingly blue eyes are going to be a sight you'll have to get used to, like literal inches away from your face when you wake up, studying you for wounds, or just studying you in general. There's something about you that's just so fascinating to him, and this side of him literally does not know what boundaries are, so he's all up in your face studying you in curiosity with a soft but dark smirk on his face, while you're just "😐"
🩸• Kind of gross but Monster Hyun-Su has the weirdest affection ever. Like, he enjoys feeding you when you're hungry, mostly questionably bloody-looking things until you get it in his head that you're not Hannibal Lecter and just want a breakfast bar or something 😭 and when this guy goes to hug you, it'll be ridiculously tight, sometimes his wing breaking out of its shell to wrap over you, which is kind of sweet. Until he goes to kiss you and it's not a kiss at all, it's more him living up to his monstrous reputation by licking at your skin like some kind of dog until you squeal and push him away, which he always finds hilarious. Meanwhile, normal Hyun-Su's mortified 😂
🩸• Normal Hyun-Su and Monstrous will most likely make an agreement between them to make sure you're kept alive and as unharmed as possible, protect you from any sort of danger, so if you thought you had a shadow following after you before the split between them, you've got a much more threatening one now, so it'd be very hard for much damage to come to you at all. And good luck if you want some time alone to wander and think by yourself, because if he doesn't straight-up follow you out with no buts like usual, he'll be watching you somewhere close at all times.
🩸• I feel like Hyun-Su's monstrous side would find it funny to make you jump, like falling down out of nowhere from a building or something right in front of you when you thought you were alone or something stupid like that. You'll give him an annoyed glare of protest, and he'll just smirk smugly and teasingly with a fake-innocent shrug of "something wrong?"
🩸• To sum up the whole. predicament you've gotten yourself into here, falling in love with Hyun-Su would pretty much protect you from ninety per cent of the apocalyptic mess of the world while being showered with all the lost love and affection and longing he thought were dead along with all the rest of his hopes and energy from the beginning. And then to keep you on your toes, you've got the monstrosity inside of his head coming out at random moments to obsess over you before Hyun-Su can come back to reality again. But whoever's at the surface, and wherever you two are, he'll always, always be there watching you and with you, one way or another.

I AM SO SINFUL Y'ALL.
ok so I was rewatching the scene where Hyunsu is held captive from season 2, and I'm like...??????????? I HAVE AN IDEA
filth beneath the cut yall. You have been warned, I am wild.
So what if y/n was a scientist sent to do some tests on Hyunsu? And she's like WOAH this test subject is hot...I sort of want to test other things on him...??? Like mean, mad scientist girl gets obsessed with half human Cha Hyunsu and pretend he escapes sooner like bc y/n says she'll get him out of there if he passes all her tests...🤭 and the tests are like can monsters still ejaculate? Can he keep going bc of his healing ability? 💀 Wait what if he's totally chained up and she just uses him for whatever? Lets not forget how hes totally naked and looks GORGEOUS even covered in blood. DAT ASS TOO!!! HOW GOOD IS HIS MONSTER IN BED????? Is he able to fuck her with that wing- too far? Ok. 😩😩😩😩 And how Hyunsu secretly is attracted to y/n too, and actually wants to be used? Like he hasn't had a good fuck in ages cuz I mean 💀 he's been having a lot of other problems like being a monster etc and is like hell yeah I'm shameless but whatever imma yeet tf outta here.
I am so sorry. I am a messed up person. I wanna write a Hyunsu x Scientist!Reader where this happens and then they actually escape...and then have a little quiet peaceful life together (apart from nights they gon be wild).🤣

Two in One - Cha Hyunsu
“Stay here.”
It wasn’t a statement; it was a demand. One that you didn’t want to obey.
It was also the last thing you remember before waking up. You were resting against your shared bed while Hyunsu dabbed a cloth into a bowl of water, wringing out the excess so it wouldn't make a mess.
As the grogginess faded, your eyes looked him over. He was completely covered in scrapes, gashes, and even as his arm dabbed the cloth onto your head, it was shaking.
“I-“ You paused, tears welling in your eyes as you looked him over. You knew he’d be fine in a few hours, but he would’ve been fine already if you just listened. “I’m sorry-” You sniffed.
“None of that matters.” He cut you off with a weak smile, his hand moving to gently lay on your shoulder. “You’re safe. I’m safe.” He paused to take a breath, his arm moving from your shoulder to cup the side of your face. “We’re okay.” He finished. The look in his eyes softened as he looked at you. Partially relieved, partially lost in the way yours still held onto the worry from before.
You don’t know when the gap between the two of you closed or when your shirt was pulled off, but as you started slipping down the headboard, your hands came up to wrap around him, trying to pull him closer. A small hiss came out of him and you realized you must have held a little too tight.
“Sorry,” You whispered with a small smile, one that he returned.
“It’s okay.” He chuckled, grabbing your hand and placing it on the top of his arm instead. You moved your other hand to match on the opposite side. “Just don’t squeeze too hard.”
“Are you sure you don’t want me on top?” You gave him a weak smile.
“That might be worse, actually.” He laughed before his lips were back on you. The hand that wasn’t supporting him above you trailed down to the waistband of your shorts, easily sliding under them.
He was always soft with you, but you learned to love it. With how hectic your everyday lives were, being able to enjoy some peace with him was more than welcomed.
“Hyunsu,” You whispered as his finger reached your clit, drawing slow circles while he leaned down to press kisses along your neck.
“Shh,” He smirked against you. “I know.” He slowly slid two fingers inside you, the kiss deepening as your hips worked to try and give him a better angle.
“I don’t want to wait.” You whispered. “I want more. I can take it.” You looked up at him pleadingly. He gave you a look that told you he didn’t trust you.
“So impatient.” He gave you a soft smile as he pulled his hand away. You almost spoke up but watched eagerly as slid to the end of the bed before getting up, taking your shorts and underwear with him.
He wasted no time spreading your legs. His fingers spread you open, and his tongue gave you a few kitten licks before flattening against you. His eyes flicked up to watch you, a small smile on his face when he saw your hand reaching for his hair.
You let your eyes fall closed as you tried to relax, but you couldn’t help the guilt that tugged at you. You should be taking care of him, but he was always so giving.
You could, however, feel yourself grinding against his face as his lips wrapped around your clit, sucking mercilessly. He brought his fingers back up to start where he left off and he couldn’t help but look up to watch you, his eyes staying on you this time.
He watched as your mouth parted in a silent moan as your eyes screwed shut. It was new to you for him to be fast paced and it was embarrassing how the change affected you. You couldn’t keep still and his free arm came around to grip on your thigh. Holding it down and open.
“Hy-Hyun-“ You felt yourself getting close, small whimpers of his name fell from your lips as your grip on his hair got tighter.
Until he pulled away.
“Don’t tell me he lets you cum that easily when you can’t even follow simple directions.” His tone was different and when you looked up, his eyes had blacked out. He scoffed as you tried catching your breath, his eyes turning blue. “Don’t be so surprised.” He smiled. “You should be glad I took over. He’s in no shape to be doing any of this.”
“How long have you been here?” You swallowed hard, your breath steadying some.
“Sweetie,” He tsked. “Don’t you remember his arm was hurt? How could he have possibly held you down like that?”
Your eyes widened in horror before you tried to pull your legs away from him. He was quick to stop you, pulling you back towards him.
“Maybe if you had listened to him better, I’d let you.” He tsked. “But with how much energy he used to save you, he’s not strong enough to come back right now.” He smiled down at you, and you hated that you felt yourself clench at the situation you were in. “So, I guess you’re stuck with me.”
You watched helplessly as he spread your legs again, pinning them down.
“Don’t look at me like that.” He smiled as he watched your reaction. “We both know you’re dying to have him be rougher with you.” His smile grew. “I could see it, y’know.” He narrowed his eyes at you as his finger trailed up your leg.
“When he’s on top of you, you never seem to be enjoying yourself.” His finger ran along your leg. “When he’s eating you out, you wish he wouldn’t pull away as soon as you cum.” He smirked, his other hand running up your opposite leg.
“You want to be used.” He emphasized the word by cupping his hand around you, his palm pressing deliciously against your clit. You couldn’t help but roll your hips into it.
“Even know.” He scoffed. “You know I’m not him, but you’re still turned on.” He tilted his head. “Is it him you really want?” He started, pressing against you harder, reveling in the whine you let out. “Or is it that you don’t have anyone else?”
“Shut up.” Your words were contradicting your actions. “If you were wearing anyone else’s face, this wouldn’t be happening.”
“He’s upset, you know.” He faked a sad tone, ignoring your statement. “He’s yelling at me, threatening me even, to take my hands off of you.” He watched you buck into his hand. “How about you tell him that you’re the one touching me?”
The thought of Hyunsu watching this pinged at your heart but it also turned you on. He didn’t want anyone else touching you. He didn’t want anyone else on you. But at the same time, it was him.
“It should be you watching.” You spat, trying your best to control your hips.
“I don’t think you’ve grasped the situation.” He let out an amused chuckle as he pulled his hand away. “I could have-“ He paused to correct himself as he crawled over you. “We could have died.” He narrowed his eyes at you. “And as much as he’s just glad you’re alright, I’m a bit pissed.” His face was right in front of yours. “Sure, it would take us a while to heal, but you could have died.”
“And I’d have to hear him mope about it for god knows how long.” He sighed. “So, you can deal with me,” He cocked his head to the side. “Or you can deal with an unconscious Hyunsu.” He cocked his head to the other side. “Your call.” He smirked. “But with how tight you’re gripping onto me I don’t think you want me to stop.”
You hadn’t noticed, but your hand had gripped onto his forearm at some point. The one that previously on you.
“Like I said.” You quickly snatched you hand back. “It’s because you look like him.” You spat. “I would never touch you.”
He laughed as he backed off, pushing himself off the bed in the process.
“You can act all you want.” He walked to the side of the bed. “But we both know you’re not as against me as you’re trying to be.” As he was talking, he let Hyunsu’s normal eyes come back. You could see a gash on his head disappearing. “Not when this pretty face is the one talking.”
You almost felt like you were cheating the way you felt yourself clench at nothing. You did wish Hyunsu was rougher. You did want him to stop treating you like you would break if he put any pressure on you. As you were lost in thought, he was on your side, his hands grabbing your face to make you look at him.
“I can hear your heartbeat speeding up, y’know.” His tone was cocky, and you almost forgot it wasn’t really Hyunsu. “I don’t know why he treats you like you’re so fragile.” He scoffed, squishing your cheeks so your lips were pursed, letting out a small laugh when your hands came up to slap his away. “It looks like you can handle yourself.”
“Besides,” He smiled, his eyes blue again. “Even if he comes back, you’ll still have to put up with me until he’s strong enough to hide me away completely.” He paused, his smile growing sinisterly wide. “You don’t want me to hurt him now, do you?”
“You wouldn’t.” Your eyes locked on his and he only chuckled.
“I could lock him up in here for as long as I like.” He pointed to his head, letting out a laugh. “Especially when you like being reckless enough to put him in that state.”
“Either way, you got what you want, now bring him back.” You ignored his comment, putting all your effort into trying your best to sound like you meant what you were saying.
“You think I’ve sat idly all this time that I’m going to settle for finishing something I didn’t start?” He chuckled as he undid the belt he was wearing.
“You want him back?” He scoffed again, pulling the belt free. “If you wanted him so bad you wouldn’t put his life at risk like that, now would you?” He said as he walked back towards you, motioning to your hands.
The threat against Hyunsu had you complying.
“If it wasn’t for me taking over, do you really think he’d be fine?” He faked a pout as he stretched the belt out and easily tied your wrists. He knew you knew the answer, but he still felt the need to continue. “There’s no him without me.”
He pinned your wrists above your head, smirking down at you as your breath hitched.
“You should hear him.” He whispered, his face right in front of yours. “Looks like you might get what you want from him when does get back.” He pulled away, making his way back to the end of the bed, his arms running along your legs before stopping at your thighs. His firm hold had your head spinning.
“But for now, we’re going to go over some rules, yeah?” He smiled, pressing kisses along the insides of your thighs. “If you can prove you learned how to listen, I’ll fuck you like you want.” He smirked as you struggled, letting Hyunsu’s normal eyes come back.
“And you can pretend it’s your pretty little boyfriend doing it.”

put your arms around me and i'm home || Cha Hyun-Su x Reader
summary: In the dead of winter, you have to do a run to go get fuel for your generator. Things go wrong, but fortunately, Hyun-Su is here to save you.
word count: 3.7k
warnings & tags: canon-typical violence, gore, monsters, hyun-su and reader get injured, reader briefly thinks hyun-su is dead, monster!hyun-su makes a brief appearance, hyun-su needs a hug and he gets one!, angst, hurt/comfort, season 2 canon compliant.
previous · next
A/N: this can be read on its own, but there is another one-shot, if you're interested! for context, this takes place during season 2. reader and hyun-su know each other from high school and reader runs into hyun-su after the events of the first three episodes. reader also doesn't know that he is a monster/neohuman.
You’re not one to get caught off guard, not usually. You’ve always been cautious, measured, far-sighted. It had been an advantage back in high school, and you’re pretty sure it’s what kept you alive thus far.
Yet, in this new world that you never asked to be a part of, unforeseen complications were the norm. You could plan, and plan, and plan ahead, but here you were, freezing in your living room, because the biting cold of the lasting winter meant that you’d run out of fuel for your small generator, and everything else you used to generate electricity wasn’t functioning the way it should.
If you didn’t want to freeze to death, you had to act, and act quick.
You’d already held out a few more days than was reasonable, hoping that the weather would clear and your solar panels would be useful again, or — but you hadn’t dared to voice that thought — that Hyun-Su would come by, and you could ask for his help. He’d offered before, after all, even if he had always kept you at arm’s length whenever you’d returned the favor.
But things were dire now, and you couldn’t wait any longer, so you’re kneeling in your living-room, preparing yourself for a hazardous trip in the outside, shivering as you do. Things are dangerous enough on a good day, but the snow that’s been continuously falling only makes you dread it more. It swallows sounds, means you’ll leave tracks behind you, and you’ll consume twice as much energy just to move around.
The last thing you pack is a map, which you make sure to keep available, though you hope you won’t need it in between breaks.
You’re heading for a four-stories parking lot, where you hope you’ll find fuel in one of the cars, but that’s not the dangerous part. What’s risky is that monsters love these kinds of places, with all their nooks and crannies, all the dark places to hide, and fear already has your heart beating twice as fast as usual before you’ve even opened your door.
Still, you take a steadying breath, haul the backpack over on your shoulders, and exit the house without making a sound.
Everything is quiet outside. Snow is falling gently, and the sight would be heart-warming, if it wasn’t for all the overturned cars, the gaping hole torn into the building opposite from yours by one of those missiles a few months ago, and the worrying fresh footprints going towards the river. The snow also covers the decomposing bodies, and you can only hope that you don’t accidentally step on one as you start walking.
At least it fills your tracks behind you. By the time you’ve reached the other side of the street, which was one once an impossible task due to how bad traffic you used to be, nothing leads back to your door, and you leave with, at least, the reassurance that home will still be here waiting for you when you come back.
If you come back.
There’s comfort in knowing that you’d planned well, this time, to get to the parking lot. You get to your destination with only expected complications. You spot the monsters before they spot you. You have to reroute twice, but that had been accounted for, and you don’t even have to pull out your map. You reach the building right before noon, and after surveying it for a few minutes, you let yourself in before you can chicken out.
In the dark, you make your way to the first floor, where you will be able to have the greyish light of the day, instead of having to use precious batteries for your flashlight.
It’s not long before you’ve picked out the car, a familial minivan with an untouched baby seat in the back. You try not to think about the people it belonged to as you kneel by the side and prepare to siphon the tank. You make quick work of preparing it, with the tanks and hoses you’d brought for that purpose.
Maybe it’s your confidence that’s to blame for what happens next, or maybe it’s another one of these unforeseeable accidents. Either way, you catch movement from the corner of your eye and you jerk your head back as a reflex, but you’re not fast enough and unnaturally long claws dig into your cheek.
You manage not to scream despite the pain, scramble back and away from the van. There, standing on the roof, is a creature. Though it stands on two legs, there is nothing human about it anymore. The side of its face are sagging and drooping like it’s centuries old, covering where you assume its shoulders would be. It brings its claws to its lips, and your realize with horror that your blood is dripping from them.
Bleeding, in this world, might as well be a death sentence. You don’t bother wasting energy in stopping the tears from spilling from your eyes.
“Younnnnng,” the monster screeches. “Give— meeeeee…”
It at least snaps you out of the stupor, and you grab your bat, unwilling to go down without a fight.
But it’s not much of a fight, not when the scent and the noise are waking up all the other creatures hibernating around here.
You swing wildly as the thing, and manage to send it tumbling back. It’s only a short respite though, considering pain is only ever short lived for them, while blood is dripping down your chin and onto the concrete.
You throw your backpack on your shoulders with trembling hands and grab the first cannister that you’ve filled, abandoning the rest behind to start sprinting towards the exit.
You already know you won’t make it. You know you’ll have to run through the pitch dark ground floor, which is no doubt filled with more of those nightmares, and that the chances you’ll make it out on the other side are slim to none.
But you owe it to yourself fight until the very end.
As it stands, you don’t even make it to the downward slope that leads there. There’s the sound of something charging towards you, and then the— the head, it has to be, of a bull-like thing catches you in the ribs, and sends you flying into a car. Your breath is instantly knocked out of you, your vision goes blurry, your head starts reeling. You’re aware of the thing crashing into a concrete pillar. It at least stays there, struggling to pull itself out, but that’s barely any relief, because soon enough the first creature is calling out to you again, stretching out a skeletal arm towards you.
“Younnnnnng… Give meeeee…”
It kicks you in the ribs, and you roll onto your back, only to be met with the horrifying sight of its arm in the air, claws out and ready, preparing to cut your throat open.
You refuse to close your eyes.
And then, just as you think everything lost, someone steps in between you and the monster, blocking its arm with your very own baseball bat. You stare blankly at the large back, the unkept black hair, as the man forces it to step back and kicks it in the chest.
Then Hyun-Su turns around, and holds his hand out towards you.
He looks nothing like what you’re used to. He’s usually so lost, so hesitant, when he comes to you. Now he’s focused, purposeful, and in many ways, he reminds you of the boy you once knew, the captain of the football team who would without fail lead his team to victory.
“Let’s go,” he urges you, and when you weakly take his hand, he pulls you to your feet effortlessly.
You wheeze as the two of you run to hide behind a car. You press your free hand against your ribs, hoping to lessen the pain — it doesn’t work, of course.
“It’s going to find me,” you mumble to Hyun-Su as he keeps an eye on the thing. “It can— It can smell my blood.”
Hyun-Su’s head snaps towards you, and his expression darkens at the sight of the wound on your cheek. He lifts his hand halfway, as if to touch it, then lets it fall down again.
“You should—” Your voice breaks. “You should go. If it can find me… It’s not the only one.”
A strange expression that you can’t quite decipher passes on his face, before he shakes his head firmly.
“I’m not leaving you here.”
The relief you feel when he says those words is immediately overshadowed by embarrassment. You shouldn’t be happy. He needs to go, or he will die here with you, and what would the point be in that?
“What— What are you even doing here? How—”
You don’t know if he doesn’t answer on purpose, or if he hears a sound that takes his attention away from you.
“Can you run?” he asks you, glancing over the car.
Your body’s going to hurt like hell when the adrenaline wears out, but for now you give him a decided nod.
“Do you trust me?”
You should probably take your time to answer him, actually think about the question.
“Yes,” you answer instead, like it’s a reflex.
He exhales quietly, squeezes your hand in his.
“Then run.”
Then he’s pulling with him, running at full speed towards the open wall of the parking lot. Fear spikes through you. Even though you’re only on the first floor, it’s still too high to land comfortably. That fear is completely erased by the sight that greets you, briefly, of monsters stumbling and climbing all over each other to make their way up from the ground floor. There is a whole swarm of them teeming here already, and you can’t think of any other way to make it out alive — frankly, you have a hard time believing that this will work. But you cling to your faith in Hyun-Su like your life depends on it, because it does, and when he yells for you to jump, you do it without question.
While you’re flailing in the air, you feel him pulling you towards him. Strong arms wrap around you, and keep you caged and safe. You hit the ground brutally, rolling on the floor until you land on top of him.
“Fuck,” you mumble, painfully pushing you onto your elbows. “Hyun-Su, are— are you okay?”
The obvious answer to the question is ‘no’, and yet Hyun-Su doesn’t look worse for wear as he sits up, his eyes instead going over your body to make sure you weren’t too badly injured.
If you shiver when his hands run up and down your arms, it isn’t because of the cold.
“Let’s move,” he says, letting go of you all too quickly.
But, by the time you’re both on your feet, monsters attracted by the smell of your blood have started falling from the parking lot. The two of you sprint, but you’re no match for them and you know it. You regain the tiniest hope when you make it past a corner, thinking that maybe, just maybe, the snow will swallow your smell if you hide well enough — and then something wraps around your ankle.
In a second, you’re torn out of Hyun-Su’s grasp, and when you manage to roll onto your back to see who your assailant is, all you can do is let out an inhumane scream.
This particular monster has eight legs, like a spider, and its somewhat human torso and head is completed by two long mandibles instead of a jaw. You manage to grab a knife from your pocket, but by the time you can cut its— web, you suppose, it’s charging towards you at full speed, and it’s close, too close for you to even get on your feet before—
When it attacks you, the first thing you see is what you first identify as a black wing, before you realize that it’s made out of a complex mix of flesh, bone and other materials that you can’t quite recognize, instead of feathers.
The wing pushes the creature back, and then Hyun-Su’s back is in front of you once more.
It’s his, you realize, brain awfully slow all of sudden. The wing. It’s attached to his shoulder, and all you can do is stare in confusion and horror. It flutters as he turns around to look at you.
You’re not fully in control when you scramble back, whole body shaking — because of the second near-death experience in ten minutes or because you’re terrified, you don’t know. What you do know is how hurt he looks, and how he turns his head the other way to face the monsters that are still coming after the two of you.
“You should run,” he says, low enough that you could miss it. He sounds hollow again. “Don’t turn around.”
You shake your head quietly, try to form some words. They all fail you. You don’t— you have no clue what’s happening. All that you know is that Hyun-Su is a monster and that he’s just used that to save your life.
The wave of monsters reach him just a few seconds later, before you’ve managed to decide anything. He pushes them back with practiced ease, one by one. You hate that you’re just sitting here, unable to move, as he fights for your life, yet your body just refuses to answer to you, even if you’re begging it to react.
Soon, the spider is the last one standing — or rather, the last one who hasn’t yet decided that you’d make a fairly meager lunch, considering how hard it is to get to you. It keeps attacking, and Hyun-Su keeps pushing it back, again, and again, until the creature manages to ensnare him in its web. Hyun-Su writhes, manages to pull his wing free, but it’s clear that he’s now at a disadvantage, and the mandibles click threateningly as the monster gets closer and closer to him.
Finally, your body agrees to react.
You run.
You don’t go very far though. You find the cannister you’d dropped and then you’re rushing back to throw the gasoline at the creature, half emptying it. The monster wasn’t paying attention to you, too busy trying to bite Hyun-Su’s head off, but its head snaps towards you when the liquid reaches it. It lets out a threatening hiss, which you ignore.
Instead, you find the lighter in your pocket.
Aim.
And throw.
The screams start right away, but it drops Hyun-Su, at least, as it tries to escape the fire.
For a second, you think you’ve made it — you’ve both made it, that is. Hyun-Su pulls himself to his feet. The wing flutters again, slowly starts to retreat back into his body to go back to a human arm.
He looks at you, expression unreadable.
And then one of the spider’s limb pierces through his chest. It’s not even calculated this time — just a movement it’s making as it tries to free itself from the flames that are consuming it.
You hear yourself scream. You don’t remember asking your body to move, this time, but you know that a second later you’re reaching Hyun-Su as he falls to his knees, and your arms are around him while you cradle him, pulling his head into your lap. Tears fall down your cheeks and onto his, as one of your hands tries, and fails, to apply pressure to the gaping wound, even if you know there is no point.
“No,” you beg. “No, no, no, no… Please, please, someone, please…”
You don’t know how many times you say it, how long you stay there. Snow starts to cover both his body and yours, and you realize you have a decision to make, if you don’t want to freeze to death. You just can’t bring yourself to do it.
Until Hyun-Su’s lifeless body arches in your arms with a gasp.
When his eyes open, they’re a clear, cold, uncanny blue.
You don’t dare to do anything then — not to let go of him, not to move away, not to break eye contact. It makes no sense, but you’re afraid that the slightest movement would have him gone again.
Slowly, his lips curve into a smirk, an expression you’ve never seen on him before. You’ve seen him smile, bright and sincere, and more recently, soft and subdued. But this amused, flirtatious smirk, that is completely new.
“You’re still here,” he comments, casually getting up, like nothing happen, like he can’t feel pain, like there isn’t a hole in his chest.
Even his voice is different. There’s a drawl to it, light and lazy, like he has all the time in the world.
“Hyun-Su?” you say, unsure of what’s happening. He was dead a minute ago. Then again, now that he’s breathing again, your brain is able to form the thought that he is a monster. An abnormal one, sure, and you don’t know enough to draw any conclusion, but it could be an explanation.
The smirk widens.
“Close enough,” he answers. “Are you scared?”
You’re not sure. You think you’re too emotionally exhausted to be scared.
“Should I be?” you ask. Maybe you shouldn’t trust this version of him to tell you the truth, and yet— All your senses are telling you that this is still Hyun-Su. And you don’t think he’d do anything to hurt you. Ever.
“It would break him if you got hurt,” not-Hyun-Su says, tilting his head. He lifts his index finger to tilt your head up. “I don’t want him broken.”
“Is he—” You interrupt yourself, unsure of what even is happening right now. But before you can start asking for answers, there is something you need to know. “Is Hyun-Su okay right now?”
He scoffs.
“He’s taking a break,” he replies. “He’s worked hard.” A beat while he seems to think about it. “Also, he thinks you hate him now.”
“I could never hate him,” you say, too easily, because it’s just the truth.
“Well, he is a monster,” not-Hyun-Su says with a shrug. He doesn’t seem to mean it as an insult, just stating a fact. You suppose he’s not wrong, and yet…
“The people I loved all turned into monsters,” you whisper quietly. Your mother, before you even made it home. Your best friend, who begged for death so she wouldn’t hurt others. Your father, who disappeared to protect you. You miss them all so much it sometimes feel like your heart’s been ripped out of your chest, and you’d give anything to have them back. So, if there is any way that you can still have Hyun-Su… “As long— as long as he’s not trying to kill me, does it really matter?”
The man watches you with interest, tilting his head to the side. It’s interesting. You haven’t been hurt by this world the way others have. Monsters caused death and destruction, but you watched half-monsters doing their very best to avoid hurting others, not unlike what Hyun-Su is doing right now.
The monster in him wonders what it would take, to destroy that ill-placed trust in others around you. The rest of him… is far too intrigued to give in. He grabs your chin between his thumb and his index finger, pulls your face closer to his.
“Doesn’t it?” he echoes your words. “What if I do hurt you?”
You swallow, call back the images of Hyun-Su easily taking out these monsters earlier. But you can’t forget that he’d been doing it to protect you.
“Y–You won’t,” you reply, even if your stutter betrays your lack of confidence.
It’s a leap of faith, but it seems to amuse him.
“For now,” he says, before his eyes roll into his head and Hyun-Su collapses in your arms.
You stumble back, barely manage to keep him up, before he seems to regain some control over his limbs and starts coughing. Even then, you don’t let go of him. You wrap both of your arms around him, head resting against his shoulder, and keep him there, against you.
Hyun-Su remains still for a while, breathing pained and ragged. The snow is still falling, but his body is warm.
“Are you okay?” he whispers with a hoarse voice.
“I am,” you answer. “Thanks to you.”
He lets out a pained sigh.
“Did he— Did he hurt you?”
You shake your head, barely moving away so you can look at him. He doesn’t look at you, keeps his eyes — black again, you note — fixedly in the other direction.
Like he can’t bear to know which emotion is on your face right now.
“I’m so happy you’re alive,” you say quietly. “I thought— I thought I’d lost you forever.”
Silence.
“Don’t leave me,” you beg, voice so low and broken you don’t think he’d hear if he wasn’t inches from you.
Hyun-Su’s body starts shaking against yours. Finally, finally, he wraps an arm around your waist, burying his head in your neck, and wet tears roll down your collarbone. In the freezing cold weather, they feel burning hot.
“Don’t hate me,” he begs in response, crying in your arms, fingers digging to the fabric of your clothes in a desperate attempt to keep you there, against him — even if there is no need for that right now.
You wish you could tell him that he just saved your life, that he’s been a guiding light in your cold, dark life this past few months, that you love him more than words can say. But that would take too long, and the situation calls for something shorter, more direct, and just as meaningful.
“You’re the only good thing about this world,” you say instead, and he sucks in a sharp breath.
Under the snow, for long minutes, Hyun-Su holds you like he never wants to let go.
When the two of you eventually detach from each other, he keeps your hand in his the whole walk home.
