Cue an overly loud sniffle, the natural accompaniment to the huge crocodile tears which gloss lavender eyes, and altogether meek pose from the floating fairy: ❝ Hardly! Did you see how many of those things there were? Trying to raid my little fountain??!! ❞

Little is a funny word to use in this case: as others of its kind, the fountain is a palatial space with soaring marble arches, pillars, ascending to a domed ceiling which seemed to peer into an unshifting starry sky—soothing, gentle magic carrying that stardust feel as it glimmered in the air all around... especially concentrated around the figure which floated above the crystalline pool. She better fit the term, in some ways; obviously not as small as the bottle-able companion fairies, but for a Great Fairy, the simpering blonde no doubt appeared several sizes smaller than expected.

...another sniff, a mote less pathetic than before: ❝ But... they're all gone now, right? You, like, totally blasted them to shadowy bits! You're a legend, I can't thank you enough— ❞

for context: kiznaiver is an anime about a team of 8 teens who’re part of an experiment/project that links (lol) them together so they can share each other’s physical AND emotional pain as a way to encourage the “one for all, all for one” dynamic in the team

anyway, more brainrot about this au below:

I love kiznaiver it’s such a good concept lol it works so well with the chain imo! anyway some stuff of note is that:

(spoilers for kiznaiver btw!)

1. in the anime emotional pain is more overwhelming (to the point of incapacitation) than physical pain, which I think it’s interesting for the chain considering all the emotional baggage they all carry and how that can be a hindrance for the group in the long run

2. in the anime, there was a failed attempt of this experiment that let to one of the kids to feel ALL the pain (x8) and the others to be painless, which I think would be a great source of whump for the chain if like, they try to cancel the spell but it goes wrong :)

3. great source of whump considering that dark link would only need to grab one of them to cause pain to all the others and get the upper hand :)

4. how team dynamics would change, especially if this happens to the chain at the beginning of the quest, like how wild would need to be less reckless while fighting, how all of their “self sacrificing” habits would be a huge weakness during battle too and how they’d really have to trust each other

anyway, that’s kinda it, i needed to like, express the brainrot this au has been causing me lol

She is tired―or perhaps "exhausted" is a better word: having kept true to her word and lent herself to help the forces as best she could... and, admittedly, kept on longer with the princess than she'd initially anticipated. Terrifying as it all was, the fairy couldn't bring herself to leave after one successful venture. Zelda was too compelling to abandon, to say the very least.

Honey stayed, and gave every ounce of her magic, her blessings, her power that she could... and, perhaps, a bit more than she could, in the end. Her glow dimmed, her limbs shaky, unsteady, as the princess helped see her back to her fountain where she would need to rest a long while to regain what she'd spent.

How long?... who knows.

Maybe that was why the princess sounded so sentimental: she knew how abstracted from the typical flow of time the fairies could be, hidden away in their realms somewhere between this and the next. Would the world she awoke to, once the mending was done, be the same as this they shared?

❝ ...I don't think anyone could forget you, Zel. Even if they wanted to, even if they tried... both of which definitely don't apply to me―as long as I live, you can be sure you'll cross my mind. Promise. ❞

Dreamy eyes give a long blink. She is fading, fast, but there's already a renewed sense of peace, of ease, the moment their feet meet the crystalline shallows at the pool's edge.

Some of the little fairies appear and begin to crowd them, clustering along the little great-one's arm, her shoulder, as if to take some of the burden from the princess (and begin the process of renewal). Soon, they take her completely: gently guided out from Zelda's hold, drawing her toward the fountain's center, water lapping over weak knees. Even still, she manages to turn and offer a final radiant smile to the noble general, dreamy eyes agleam.

❝ Don't go forgetting me either, okay?... maybe.... come check in, sometimes.... I'd really love to see the city, like we talked about... when this is all over. ❞
