Francis: oui, top draw on the table next to my side of the bed.

Matt: Merci! *Runs to get it*

Arthur, panicking: Francis...dear...do you know what else is in that fucking drawer?

Francis: ....oh dear

Matt, Shouting: OH DEAR CHRIST! GUYS, REALLY?!?!

Amelia: *Laughing her ass off*

I've read published books that had stuff about schools that hadn't been true in years, probably since the author was in school, so I think you're fine about the Xmas break thing. I get wanting to try to go for realism, though, and I've definitely done hours of research only to end up deleting the paragraphs with that information, because it ended up breaking the flow of the narrative 😩 Sometimes the narrative or plot just wins over little details.

Yeah, honestly, I've written several days of their Rome trip already, and I've gone into a lot of detail about that because it is important from Alfred's POV (he's visiting Italy for the first time, and he's meeting people from his boyfriend's extended family for the first time as well). I don't want to delete all that work just because it might be more realistic for them to show up later in the week. I do think they'll go back to school shortly after New Year's (like maybe on the third of January), so they'll have had about 2 1/2 weeks off of school in total. That's more than what students in the U.S. seem to get but doesn't seem like too much, because some students appear to be getting off about two weeks. I think Antonio deliberately sought out a school district with a longer winter break so the boys could get to visit with their Italian family longer than they would have otherwise. This is crucial for Savino, because he needs to cushion his annual visit to his parents' graves with some nice holiday-related family time both before and after. Marcello also gets really bad jet lag compared to his brothers, so Antonio prefers a longer winter break so they can get a decently long visit with the Italian family but Marcello has time to recover before he has to go back to school. I think FrUK also specifically selected this school district when Alfred and Matthew were young, because their Christmas plans would sometimes include going to France or the U.K. over winter break. FrUK wanted their sons to be able to spend enough time overseas to actually enjoy it but also have some time to recover from jet lag before they had to go back to school in the U.S.

Arthur: Hm...Its going to rain today

Young!Amelia: How do you know that Dad?

Arthur: well, my arm is really hurting. You see, when I was young I got in a small accident and broke my arm, and I had to be in a cast for a bit. Now, whenever it's going to rain, it starts to hurt

Young!Amelia: so...if I break a bone I can predict the weather?

Arthur: *panicking* well, no not exact--

Young!Amelia: So cool! I'm gonna go climb a tree and jump to see if I can predict the weather!

Arthur: AMELIA WAIT NO

Francis, from the other side of the room and unamused: Great parenting, Cher. Why not tell her to jump into toxic waste to get super powers

Arthur: I-no-wait, AMELIA KIRKLAND-BONNEFOY GET BACK HERE. MATTIE STOP HER--

Francis: That’s odd. My meat/cooking thermometer is missing 

Arthur, shouting behind him: Kids, have you seen your Papa’s meat thermometer?!

Amelia, somewhere in the house: I have it!

Arthur, to Francis: Amy has it

Francis: Would you like to follow up as to why she has it?

Arthur: Amelia, Why do you have it?!

Amelia: Science! 

Arthur:......

Francis, sighing: And this is why we follow up. [To upstairs] Amelia! Whatever you’re doing, stop!

Amelia, after watching Luca: Chi! This Italian song is so good!

Chiara: oh yeah? What's it called?

Amelia: no clue! But it goes like " io penso sempre a te, soltanto a tee so che la città vuota mi sembrerà se non torni tu"!

Chiara: *turning bright red* ah...yes that song. With the fish boys. Yeah it's--wheres this movie again?

Amelia: Watch it with me!

Chiara *trying to play it cool*: I mean it's a kid movie but I guess, sure

(translation: I think always of you, only of you and know that the city will appear empty to me if you do not come back)

Francis: Uhm...Cher, what are you doing up on the fridge?

Arthur: Oh, hello dear. You know how we left some of our bottles on top cabinet here? You know, to keep it away from the children.

Francis: oui?

Arthur: well I'm trying to get it down.

Francis: Ok...but why are you still up there?

Arthur:....ah...yes...well. uhm. I can't get down with only one hand and it's just...yeah

Francis: So...would you like help?

Arthur:....yes please.

Francis: Mon beau, I fear Amelia may be deaf.

Arthur: Oh? How come?

Francis: When I call for her, she hardly responds! I have to get her eyes on me for her to respond.

Arthur: *chuckles* She's not going deaf, Love. Watch this.

*Both go to Amelia in the dining room. She's idly coloring*

Arthur: *walks up behind her, claps loud"

Amelia: *sits up* Dad? What'cha do that for?

Arthur: Had to prove something, don't worry dear. Why don't you go play with Matthew?

Amelia: Ok, weirdo *runs out*

Francis: ...how??

Arthur: She's got selective hearing. Half of my students are the same. She's just super focused and ...to be honest, if she's like me, she's learning to tune us out

Francis: *heavy sighing* well....fuck. Hopefully she also doesn't have your rebellious streak.

Arthur:... no promise

Francis: Do you want to do your nails with Papa today?

10 yr old Amelia: No that's girly! I want to play with Mattie!

Francis: Mattie doesn't mind doing his nails.

Matt, also 10: Makes me feel pretty.

Amelia: Pretty is for girly girls! I want to be cool!

Francis: *sighs*

*Seven Years Later, same spot*

Chiara: Hey Amy, can I try some nail art on your nails?

Amelia: Hell yeah! I love getting my nails done!

Francis: 😒

Francis: Oooh! Antonio is calling! He was going to tell me about this guy who’s been stalking him. I’m going to take this outside!

Matt: Should we tell him its about to storm outside?

Arthur: No, dear. Let Papa learn for himself. 

*five minutes later*

Amelia: Why did Papa come in looking like a drenched, sad, cat?

Arthur: Well that was sooner than I imagined. Come on kids, time to cheer Papa up with a bad romcom.

Amelia: Hey, Dad!

Arthur, in a terrible mood due to work: WHAT

Amelia: N-nevermind

Amelia, to Matt who is hiding a puppy: Ok ok ok, we need to leave the country. Now. Where's Cousin Michelle live? Can we get there in 24 hours.

*hears a loud crash*

Arthur, sighing: What broke?

Amelia&Matt: NOTHING

Arthur: If I come up there, will it still not be broken?

*silence*

Amelia: it will not not not not....not not be broken?

Matt: *audibly groaning*

Arthur: Alright, I'm coming. Do I need a first aid kit?

Matt: No, but can I have a new sister?

[Arthur has to hit Francis in order for him not to say a very dirty joke about how babies are made]

A few weeks ago, a woman told my family that if you stab a knife in a tree and say a few kind words (I wasn't here for this part. I just saw the aftermath), it won't rain.

It worked for the most part and the family gathering had no rain even tho it was forecasted.

And so I'm imagining Dad!Arthur hears this and is like, well, if I believe in some forms of magic why not?

And he teaches the twins this. And so Amelia starts doing this before big events.

And Chiara is just...."Ok. This might as well be a thing. But please don't use my good knife."

Amelia and Chiara watched Whip It and LOVED IT.

Both relate to Bliss wanting an outlet for her anger, finding something that makes her feel brave and cool, and just...it's such a good story.

Amelia goes one step further and searches for a local Roller Derby team. She's a bit too young, but she gets permission from Francis to do it. (Francis has no idea what Roller Derby is. When Arthur tells him, after he finds out, he realizes he may have made a mistake).

But Amy is GOOD. She's fast and knows how to take a hit, as well as give it. Chiara comes to watch with her siblings, and Matt is brought along. Chiara just...swoons. Amy looks amazing.

And, she won't admit it, but the bruises on Amy's hips DO something for her. As well as Amy's dopey grin with her mouth guard in.

Chiara snipped off another lock, watching it fall near Sebastian's gelato. Feli was going to be SO pissed that her stash was gone (which was more amusing than anything). 

“So,” Chiara started, snipping some more reddish hair, “Why did you come to tell me instead of Feli? Not that I mind! I just...she is kind of better with these emotion things.”

Sebastian snorted, “Yeah, nah. Feli is good with happy feelings and looking on the bright side but this...ehhh, not so much.”

“True,” Chi huffed.

“Besides,” Seb cleared his throat, “You’re like...you’re kinda like cool and wise and like...I don’t know!” he huffed, “You just seem to get this stuff.”

“I get this stuff,” Chiara repeated, continuing to cut lawyers into the once long hair, “Is it cause I’m not exactly straight?”

Sebastian paused, “You’re not?”

Chiara crossed her arms, “Are you serious right now?” 

“I didn’t know!” Seb raised his hands, “I just thought you really liked the aesthetic!”

Chi couldn’t help but laugh, “I mean...you’re not wrong? But come on. How many times can I say my type is a Gal Gadot or Brie Larson?”

“Or an Amelia?” Seb wiggled his brows.

“Oh shut up,” Chi hissed, “Or do you want to be bald?”

“I’ll be good!” Seb yelped. He played with the spoon in his--now empty--gelato container. He started humming quietly to himself as Chiara finished up with the last few cuts. Before Chiara could say she was done, he took a deep breath.

“And it’s also cause like...you’re the most trustworthy and honest person I know. I knew that, no matter what you would say, it would be honest and you would have my back without judgement.”

Chi swallowed hard, “Seb,” she reached over the others shoulders to give a hug, “I’m...I’m so happy ot hear that. But you have to know we’ll always have your back. You’re a Vargas--nothing EVER will change that. Capiche?”

Seb gave a watery chuckle, “Capiche.”

“Good,” Chi slowly let go, “Now lets clean this shit up.”

More than happy to!

So I'm really digging on my FACE/Amelia and Chiara au right now and have been having some fun ideas with it.

- Amelia trying cheerleading because maybe it isn't awful being that girly and she actually really likes doing gymnastic tricks. She use to take gymnastics but stopped, but this could be fun? Maybe?

- and Chiara really really likes watching her routines...enough said

- Chiara likes doing Amelia's hair, but asks her why it's always been short and Amelia explains how it weighed so much and she hated it being fussed on by her Papa-- but Chiara does it differently so she doesn't mind when SHE fusses over it.

- Matt and Amelia communicate almost telepathically. Because that's just how close they are-- when you have two dads who bicker almost as much as you, and you're not exactly straight yourself, you need an At Home ally.

- Sebastian is like...four years younger then Chiara, and three to Feli. He's worried (and his fam are) about him entering HS. So, Amelia and Matt devise a plan to basically make sure NO One touches him. (idk the plan yet but it involved a hockey stick)

Other ideas in the works...

- Canada is slightly worried over his brother since he legit has been MIA for about two years (1968-1970). Then, one day, he gets a call and it's from America...in jail...needing bail.

- America wants to introduce his bf, Romano, to his States who are his like...adjacent family.

- I do have some ideas for some State OC's but haven't had time to write them down....or if there's any interest but may just do it anyway.
