Swearing under his breath, Sherlock pulled the collar of his coat tighter around his throat. He had thought that the London winters were bitterly cold, but they couldn’t compare to the freezing temperatures that engulfed Washington. He weaved his way through the crowd at the market, questioning even why he had bothered to go when it was so busy. But John had mentioned seeing a trinket at one of the stalls, and Sherlock had decided to try and pick it up if it was still available. Approaching the stall, he came suddenly to a stop at the sight of the young brunette. Why did she look familiar? There was something about the way she carried herself that reminded him of—

“Christ, Enola, is that you?”

Christmas time with her family. It all felt like a dream. Her grown up daughter, Bill all safe and happy. What more could she want? It was perfect. She adjusted her mittens on her hands while wandering around the event with Vic. She already had a few presents for her but was keeping an eye out for anything Vic seemed drawn to. “We should try Ice Skating later. Been so long since I went.”

this was something that she had been wanting to do, to be able to actually try out ice skating after watching all of the people enjoying it for days on end now at the market. but she hadn’t been able to bring herself to actually rent any of the skates. the last thing she wanted was to go out there on her own and make a fool of herself. that was where sion came in. at the very least if she was doing this with her brother, they could laugh about it together, right? “sion, please, just, twenty minutes is all i need and then i think i’ll have the hang of it enough that i can do it on my own!”

crisp autumn days gradually give way to bitter winter nights. the trees scattered throughout the city are mostly barren now, void of the colorful leaves that now instead adorn the ground beneath quick feet. the possibility of snow, while not yet having arrived to the east coast, remains looming over the residents’ heads more often than not -- after all, blankets of soft, white cold is inevitable at this time of year. however, while many might prefer shelter to the biting seasonal winds, that doesn’t mean that the good people of washington dc have settled entirely into their warm, cozy homes just yet, and so the city continues to be as bustling as ever.

as such, several blocks within dc’s downtown area are currently lined with small welcoming tents and vendor stands, giving small local business owners a place to set up their seasonal shops, and newer arrivals a place to explore what the city has to offer. strings of christmas lights and tinseled garland wrap around the poles to bring a sense of holiday festivity to the shoppers looking for last minute gifts, or the wanderers in search of a quick snack to have with friends. it’s a lively event, with no real pressure to buy, meant for all of those residing in the city! and though the weather has gotten chilly, that hasn’t stopped the crowds coming in through the blocked off streets, all bundled in their coats and mittens as they assess what the city shops have to offer at this year’s lovely winter market.

hello hello, loves! as we prepare to go on our annual activity check pause for the upcoming holidays, we thought that we’d bring a small little something to help kick up some wintery muse! this isn’t a full event though, as it’s only meant as something to perhaps prompt some new threads & give some festivities to incorporate into your writing. therefore, this will work a little differently than our typical events. so keeping that in mind, please read on for the rules & information regarding the market! as always, please have fun & we hope enjoy this little holiday treat!! ♥

“mom! seriously of all the times that you could be here--” omega held the last minute gift she had behind her back, turning with her eyes wide as she stared back at feyre, trying to keep the item as hidden as she could. she hadn’t had time to shop yet, having spent far too much time thinking she had plenty of time to shop still. “just, just turn around or close your eyes, i haven’t bought it yet.”

“I’d be hurt if you didn’t.” Kili quipped as he squeezed her hand. “I can agree to that. But tonight I want to spoil you.” He grinned up at her. It felt so good to just enjoy being a couple at last, away from the shadows of middle earth.

as the winter season continues to push on, snow is still in the forecast, but those in the city know the cold months are slowly coming to an end. just as the promise of spring is around the corner, the winter market has come to the end of its run. the holidays are over and the city is ready to return to it’s regular way of life. the stalls have been packed away, the lights are being wrapped up, and the winners of the snowball tournaments and snowmen competitions have received all of their prizes. with that, the streets of dc return to the normal hustle and bustle, lingering glitter still trying to cling to the shoes of those who walk the now empty festival grounds, hoping to bring a little more cheer as the snow and ice take precedent in people’s minds. 

the first week of the new year has come and gone and with that, it is time to wish our winter market a loving goodbye!! we are so happy to have seen the activity and excitement that you all had throughout such a busy time of year and we cannot express how thankful and appreciative we are of all of you!! we are so excited to see what the rest of the year brings if this is how we’re starting! but with that being said, the first mini event of hidden has finally come to an end! please, from this point on, do not post any new conversations regarding the event ( new starters, or replies to open event starters )!! that being said, you may continue to wrap up your event conversations, put a nice ending to them, find a good stopping point, or adapt them to work outside the event!! from here on out, the market has been fully packed up and the streets originally designated to it have been swept up and everyone has gone back to their normal day to day activities! like always, to make that transition easier, each mun will be allowed ONE free starter, for the next 24 hours only! after that, our rules go back into place full force! remember that is one starter per mun! not per character!! but again, we just want to thank you all for the support with us trying something new with this mini event!! we are so psyched every time we try something out and you guys love it, so thank you for the continued support and here’s to 2022 and the upcoming 4 year anniversary of hidden!

The main reason Peter was here was for Bev. Also seeing if there was anything at the stalls that he could get her for christmas. He was pretty bad at gifts. Especially for someone he liked. Someone he had a crush on. It was all new territory for him. “So this is all new to me.” He looked around. “Let’s see... markets... music... mulled wine. I am a more New Years party kinda guy.” He grinned at her.

chatter fills the air as speakers turn on, as lights brighten the grey skies of threatening snow. signs reading ‘closed’ are flipped to the opposite side, and as the streets begin to line with patrons and employees, dc’s winter market has officially opened for business. people are seen browsing the freshly stocked stalls, children run through the crowd with a gleam in their eye, sights set on the crowd growing for the snowball fights. couples walk as they plan their visit, figuring out what presents to buy, or what days to come back. it’s all about finding where you’ll fit as the market opens. how will you enjoy your holiday season?

happy saturday angels and welcome to the first official day of hidden’s very first mini event! the market has now begun and thus you are free to begin posting accordingly. remember this is unlike a normal event and you are not required to stop posting your other threads! these market threads are able to be mixed in with your normal posting schedule!! the market will close on january 8th, so you have plenty of time to enjoy all it has to offer! as with any of our other events, you are allowed one free starter per mun, not per character for the next 24 hours only!! please remember to tag your threads with something like “hwminievent1″ or “the winter market” or “winter market event”, anything that helps differentiate them from your normal threads! also, if you have any characters you would like to run a stall or be involved working at the market, please send the main a message!! we hope you all have fun, stay warm and enjoy all the market has to offer!!

The market had proved to be a welcome break from work and he had been able to pick up a few gifts for Marina. It was a win-win situation, as far as he was concerned. “It’s nice, isn’t it?” He asked, turning to the woman beside him in the queue at the mulled wine stand. “I mean, it’s always a nice time of year, but christmas markets just seem more special, you know?”

Dale nodded. “It is, yeah.” Although they had met before the previous christmas, they hadn’t started seeing each other until well into the new year. “Is this not....” he hummed. “Do you think it’s a bit old? She’s probably a similar age to you, and she’s british, too.”
