Swearing under his breath, Sherlock pulled the collar of his coat tighter around his throat. He had thought that the London winters were bitterly cold, but they couldn’t compare to the freezing temperatures that engulfed Washington. He weaved his way through the crowd at the market, questioning even why he had bothered to go when it was so busy. But John had mentioned seeing a trinket at one of the stalls, and Sherlock had decided to try and pick it up if it was still available. Approaching the stall, he came suddenly to a stop at the sight of the young brunette. Why did she look familiar? There was something about the way she carried herself that reminded him of—

“Christ, Enola, is that you?”

Christmas time with her family. It all felt like a dream. Her grown up daughter, Bill all safe and happy. What more could she want? It was perfect. She adjusted her mittens on her hands while wandering around the event with Vic. She already had a few presents for her but was keeping an eye out for anything Vic seemed drawn to. “We should try Ice Skating later. Been so long since I went.”

this was something that she had been wanting to do, to be able to actually try out ice skating after watching all of the people enjoying it for days on end now at the market. but she hadn’t been able to bring herself to actually rent any of the skates. the last thing she wanted was to go out there on her own and make a fool of herself. that was where sion came in. at the very least if she was doing this with her brother, they could laugh about it together, right? “sion, please, just, twenty minutes is all i need and then i think i’ll have the hang of it enough that i can do it on my own!”

crisp autumn days gradually give way to bitter winter nights. the trees scattered throughout the city are mostly barren now, void of the colorful leaves that now instead adorn the ground beneath quick feet. the possibility of snow, while not yet having arrived to the east coast, remains looming over the residents’ heads more often than not -- after all, blankets of soft, white cold is inevitable at this time of year. however, while many might prefer shelter to the biting seasonal winds, that doesn’t mean that the good people of washington dc have settled entirely into their warm, cozy homes just yet, and so the city continues to be as bustling as ever.

as such, several blocks within dc’s downtown area are currently lined with small welcoming tents and vendor stands, giving small local business owners a place to set up their seasonal shops, and newer arrivals a place to explore what the city has to offer. strings of christmas lights and tinseled garland wrap around the poles to bring a sense of holiday festivity to the shoppers looking for last minute gifts, or the wanderers in search of a quick snack to have with friends. it’s a lively event, with no real pressure to buy, meant for all of those residing in the city! and though the weather has gotten chilly, that hasn’t stopped the crowds coming in through the blocked off streets, all bundled in their coats and mittens as they assess what the city shops have to offer at this year’s lovely winter market.

OOC INFORMATION

hello hello, loves! as we prepare to go on our annual activity check pause for the upcoming holidays, we thought that we’d bring a small little something to help kick up some wintery muse! this isn’t a full event though, as it’s only meant as something to perhaps prompt some new threads & give some festivities to incorporate into your writing. therefore, this will work a little differently than our typical events. so keeping that in mind, please read on for the rules & information regarding the market! as always, please have fun & we hope enjoy this little holiday treat!! ♥

Draining the last of his mulled wine, he threw the cup into the nearest trash can. “Now, I don’t know about you, but I kind wanna check out that snowball fight. Or maybe go meet Santa. I’ve heard that he looks just like Gandalf.”

The main reason Peter was here was for Bev. Also seeing if there was anything at the stalls that he could get her for christmas. He was pretty bad at gifts. Especially for someone he liked. Someone he had a crush on. It was all new territory for him. “So this is all new to me.” He looked around. “Let’s see... markets... music... mulled wine. I am a more New Years party kinda guy.” He grinned at her.

“mom! seriously of all the times that you could be here--” omega held the last minute gift she had behind her back, turning with her eyes wide as she stared back at feyre, trying to keep the item as hidden as she could. she hadn’t had time to shop yet, having spent far too much time thinking she had plenty of time to shop still. “just, just turn around or close your eyes, i haven’t bought it yet.”

“sir--” emma paused as she caught sight of voldemort, moving to get a little closer in the crowd, so that there wasn’t the threat of muggles moving between them as they spoke. “i wasn’t expecting to see you out here. but it’s a pleasure to see you again, to know you’re alright. it’s been too long since we’ve been able to all check in with each other.” she paused. “i was thinking it might be a smart move for us to establish a new headquarters here in the city?”

The market had proved to be a welcome break from work and he had been able to pick up a few gifts for Marina. It was a win-win situation, as far as he was concerned. “It’s nice, isn’t it?” He asked, turning to the woman beside him in the queue at the mulled wine stand. “I mean, it’s always a nice time of year, but christmas markets just seem more special, you know?”

“katara, hey!” she knew that she would be running into all of her friends here and she was relieved to be able to have some time to catch up with all of them, to have something fun to distract them all. it was nice getting just a few moments to be just them and not having all of the pressure that came with their lives back home. “have you gotten sokka anything for christmas yet? cause i don’t want to risk getting him the same thing twice.”

her shoulders were tucked up to her ears, hands rubbing together through the gloves as she looked over at her sister, watching as she slid the skates on, eyes darting between winter and the rink. she had been temped herself, but didn’t want to go alone. she just hadn’t expected winter to be the first to volunteer, not after her injury in the summer. leaning against the barrier, she turned fully to face winter, arms tucked around herself as she shook her head. “do you really think ice skating is the smartest idea right now, win?” she pointed out. “you just got out of a cast, we don’t need to get you put right back in one.”

Christmas was completely new to Arwen but it seemed similar to Yuletide. Seemed to have a similar sort of vibe. She loved it. The joy. The festivities. The smells. It was wonderful and she was glad to be walking around with Tauriel. “Seeing this amount of joy and things reminds me of home. Makes me sort of homesick. But I am glad you’re here. Makes it easier.” She smiled at her friend as she handed her a mug of hot chocolate.
