"You want me to leave?"

"You don't want to stay,"

Whumpee’s eyes are dark and protective- yet exhausted and fearful. They stand hunched over, two shaky hands holding their sword out in front of them. Their sword trembles noticeably, tilting downwards every time Whumpee loses their focus. Whumpee is littered with bruises and gashes. Their legs tremble as they try to stand and their breathing sounds more like strained gasps than anything else. Their vision swirls, blurring and tilting. Whumpee staggers, but they don’t fall.

Whumpee is the only thing standing between Whumper and a wounded, restrained Caretaker, and Whumpee would rather die than let Whumper lay one finger on their friend.

Whumper tilts his head and offers a knowing smirk. In the blink of an eye, Whumpee’s skidding across the concrete on their back once again. They quickly try to scramble to their position protecting Caretaker, arms trembling and teeth clenched as they struggle to their feet- only to be knocked down once more, eliciting a sharp wheeze and a crack from somewhere along their ribs.

“Whumpee, stop fighting him, please!” Caretaker cries out tearfully, wrists jolting against chains, feet gliding uselessly against concrete, “Please, just run! Please, I’m begging you. I don’t want you to get hurt!”

“Oh-“ Whumper laughs, shaking his head as he stalks towards Whumpee, who’s struggling to hands and knees. “It’s a bit too late for Whumpee here to run.”

A sharp kick to the ribs and Whumpee’s on the concrete yet again, pain flashing through their mind as they fumble to reach for their sword. Whumper’s boot pins Whumpee’s reaching arm to the concrete, eliciting a sharp cry from both Whumpee and Caretaker.

“Stop hurting them!” Caretaker begs desperately, tugging against their restraints, “Please!! Please! Stop! Please, I’ll do anything! Just stop hurting them!” They cry, breath hitching with soft sobs. Whumpee’s pained expression turns to one of sorrow as they look up at their pleading friend.

“Hey..don’t worry..I-I’m fine-“ they try to comfort their friend with a weak, shaky voice, but Whumper takes a fistful of hair and yanks Whumpee’s head back, their other hand wrapping around Whumpee’s neck.

“They won’t be for long.” Whumper snickers cruelly, and watches Caretaker’s helpless expression as his hand tightens around Whumpee’s neck.

Whumpee struggles to breathe, with not enough strength to fight back..

and sword just out of reach.

Newsies Prompts!

(I do love a good Jack/Davey story, but I have nothing against Jack/Katherine. Also these mostly revolve around the musical story line)

Let me know if y’all use these prompts or if you have any fic recommendations!

-The newsies go looking for Jack when he’s locked in basement and find him chained/beaten up

-Jack starves himself so the others can eat and people start to notice

-Jack starts do illegal things (secret fights, drugs, prostitution, etc.) to make more money to feed the newsies

-Jack stuck inside a burning building after running in to save Les, who unknown to Jack was already out

-Jack gets arrested and the newsies are at the hearing and eventually save him from the refuge

-what if in order to lower the price of papes Jack made a deal to do some illegal activities for Pulitzer?

Whumpee slaps Caretaker's hand away during the treatment of the wound. (C:) "Listen, I know you are irritated and tired. I know it hurts, but I have to end to suture this, so it doesn't get infected. Do something for me and hold on the bedframe instead. I promise to make it quick."

Caretaker ends the argument of the Teammates by: "Let's stop arguing about who've done wrong and start to plan what we can do to make it right".

(T:) "But they said-" (C:) "They are in shock. What they want now is not good for their health."

(C:) "I know it's scary, but we have everything under control. Breathe deeply and trust me. Yes, like that. You are very brave, good job. It will be okay."

When the unflappable character sees someone they care about in danger and the mask slips, it's great.

But when the unflappable character sees someone they care about in danger, and the mask DOESN'T slip.

Because they understand they need to be calm and unflappable now more than ever; if it protects them, it will certainly protect the person they care about. So their voice doesn't waver, their hands don't shake. They don't panic. From the outside looking in, they're as calm as could be. They handle it.

But after it's over-when the person they care about is safe, and the unflappable character is alone-they completely shatter. Gasping breaths, sobs, barely holding it together because someone they love almost DIED, and it was far, far too close for comfort.

(Optional: Character that they care about finds them in this state and comforts them.)

🖤 Whumpee Looking…Not Okay 🖤

There’s a distinctive moment at which Caretaker realizes something is wrong. Maybe something gives it away. Like…

Staring at nothing.

A nervous habit, like tapping a finger or biting a nail.

Breathing too fast.

Not breathing.

Talking just a little bit too loudly.

Not talking, all day.

Refusing food.

Visibly tired. Eye bags.

Dead eyes.

Eyes slightly widening at the sight of a trigger.

That very small shudder.

Gripping things. Chairs. Railings. Sinks.

Going suddenly pale.

Excusing themself to be alone.

“You’ve been quiet all day. Please talk to me.”

A tear escaping despite their best efforts.

The moment of realization. The way Caretaker’s heart just drops.

There’s something about a whumpee just sitting down. Not fainting, necessarily. Maybe they’re just about to faint, and they quietly just kneel on the ground at a time and place that doesn’t make sense. They don’t even have the capacity or willingness to articulate why they need to abruptly stop and sit. Maybe they’re catatonic while the others look at them.

Maybe a caretaker can see the dull, vacant look in their eyes and immediately senses that something is seriously wrong. Maybe the fainting comes just a few moments later.

Ominis and Sebastian question MC about a scar on her face and she tells them about the battle with ranrock

Caretaker trying to comfort them--"fuck, you've had it rough" and reaching out for a hug and whumpee just stares at them

Whumpee trying to be "nice" to caretaker by slapping them on the back painfully hard and making boisterous vague remarks that are supposed to be compliments

Or, whumpee staring at caretaker wondering how to say "thank you" in a way that won't get them beaten up, like last time

Caretaker impulsively hugging or touching them out of kindness and whumpee flinches away and grabs the spot like it burns

"You've always taken care of your own wounds?" Caretaker says. Whumpee frowns, confused. "Who else is supposed to do them?"

"Look, I get that you're trying to be nice, caretaker, but I have it handled," whumpee trying to get themself across the kitchen by leaning on the counters.

"I do not need you. It's okay. I'm not a burden."
