i love wemmbu and the team so bad because while watching the vid i was thinking to myself “damn this is the most fun i think i’ve heard wemmbu have.”

like even though he was stressing and not being happy with the team holding him back in terms of fighting jaden, when he finally resolves to work with them, you can see how he lightens up almost. the joking around and the laughing and everything… it felt like the most peak “online friends playing on a mc server in 2020” sort of nostalgic thing to watch.

and then all of it gets ripped out of his hands when rejoice dies. dies while screaming at specifically wemmbu for help, dies while thanking wemmbu for everything and how much fun he’s had, dies for a cause only wemmbu truly wanted, as the person who wanted everyone to be friends in the first place. like. that’s gotta hurt. that’s gonna stick with you. is rejoice the first person who leaves wemmbu, not because he wanted to or because wemmbu decided to go first? because oh man.

then you see how he changes after that. originally it’s always about himself during fights. egg give me food, egg give me gaps, give me totems, give me your armor. he dives in head first with no regard for the team he’s with and whether they can live because wemmbu knows he himself can live and that’s all that matters.

the first thing he does when confronting jaden again is finding a route for egg and loppezz to get out from. getting his friends out before turning his attention to the fight, a complete opposite of what he used to do. rejoice’s death changes him. putting a power five bow to my skull.

Suddenly realizing how close the two of you were—and that you were on his lap—Isaac’s face went bright red. “C-could you get off me please?” “Y-yes! I’m so sorry Isaac! I can’t believe that happened. Are you hurt?” You scrambled off of his lap getting to your feet and offering him a hand up. He took it hesitantly but drew his hand back quickly as soon as he was on his feet again. “No, I’m fine, but… What do you mean you can’t believe that happened? Do you have no concept of gravity?” His ears were even redder than before and he would not look you in the eye. “Well I—uh—may have miscalculated the velocity of my descent.” You tried to sound as apologetic as possible, and he actually looked up at you in surprise. “Oh…well… I guess that… wait! You aren’t patronizing me, are you?” He folded his arms defensively. “No! I really didn’t think I’d fall like that!” You protested. After seeing the way Arthur and Dazai were always teasing him you couldn’t blame him for the skepticism. “Good.” He huffed looking only slightly relieved. “I wouldn’t try that again, either. You could easily break something in a fall like that.” “I promise I won’t. You glanced away hoping that by not staring at him he could feel a little less embarrassed. When you did, however, you glanced instead at the branch you’d fallen from. Suddenly your stomach did an anxious flip. Isaac wasn’t kidding! That branch was much further up than you’d realized, and you really could have been hurt. “Could I bring something by to your room to say thank you?” You asked, suddenly feeling like you owed him more than an apology. “I wouldn’t want to interrupt your work, but I have this apple turnover recipe I’ve been dying to try… could I possibly bring you one?”

“I guess so… If you really want to that is? If you end up too busy to make them though don’t worry about it.” Isaac said backing away from you self-consciously. “You really will use a ladder next time?” “Yes! I promise.” “Good.” With that and a wave he left. The shy vampire wasn’t quite fleeing the scene, but you suspected he’d reached his limit at completing that much small talk with you. Maybe you should ask Sebastian to deliver the turnover so the poor man wouldn’t have to relive his embarrassment in front of you again later?

The Tea:

So I likened Chen Che and Shen Zhouzhou to Shu Guang and Yu Liang mostly because Chen Che is also the more 'happy go lucky' character to SZZ's level headedness.

(Though they differ in the sense that they weren't childhood rivals but childhood best friends who were practically joined at the hip. Until university, where their family circumstances drive a wedge between them).

so over the course of the first few eps they break up argue at least 3 times

honestly though they just have each others best interest at heart but as I mentioned above, Chen Che has EQ with everyone but SZZ (poor guy)

SZZ also goes Abroad to train (like Yu Liang) but its Worse in his case because he didn't willingly go and well. He wasn't welcomed there either.

He does eventually manage to come back though! But It Gets Worse because Chen Che thinks that SZZ will only be able to reach his full potential in Ice Hockey if he trains abroad rather than in their small town, so he tries pushing him away (it does not go well. my boy develops anxiety).

Not sure if this has already been asked yet, but how did the team come up with the four love interests in the first place? I feel like the hardest part of developing a character is figuring out how to start. All four feel so wonderfully complex, and are not very "trope-y," which is what I struggle with the most. Thanks!

Aw, thank you! I love answering stuff like this, so I decided to go through my process on Keir and rambled a bit. I'll put my answer under a readmore for brevity.

For us, we started building Obscura with the idea that we wanted to do something dark and mature, and began with developing a setting. Once we picked and started building out the marketplace under the mountain, we could start asking ourselves "why would anyone go to this place?" and work from there. (Vesper's fractum anima is one answer to this question that we really liked for the MC.)

"Thief" feels like a pretty natural role for a marketplace, and Tobi made it clear that she wanted to develop a very dark character, so I thought a more heroic Robin Hood-type character would be a nice contrast. My original concept of Keir was for a thief who burns for justice in a deeply unjust setting; think shounen-anime hero and you're in the right neighbourhood. Pretty tropey, and I say that with love! Proto-Keir would be a delight to write in a different story.

But the rest of the team didn't think that type of character really suited the dark tone we wanted to work with, and they were right. So we took the trope and twisted it. Yes, he's a good man who burns for justice in an unjust world; and he is extremely burned out. And that twist on the formula unlocked Keir for me and the rest of the team. Burned-out Keir could be exhausted and sarcastic and even cynical about the world, bitter about the state of the marketplace and very protective of Mouse Hole as a place he can improve.

This isn't to say that "burned-out activist Robin Hood" is an original characterisation that's never been done before; TV Tropes has a whole page on the Knight in Sour Armor, which deals with similar characters. But it was the foundation we could build on as a team to make a character that felt strong enough to be a romantic interest.

I've mentioned this before, but one of the inspirations I draw from when I write about the marketplace is the awful Web3/crypto environment, a topic I enjoy reading about mostly for the schadenfreude and ended up learning about as a consequence. For Keir, I use concepts like activist burnout and compassion fatigue, things I learned about much more intimately in 2020 (you can guess why). Taking these real life ideas and bringing them into my writing is my favourite way to add depth and texture to characters and settings. If you're looking to do the same, try looking outside fiction and see what things interest you, then bring them back to your fiction.

Not to say that tropey characters are a bad thing! I could write a whole other essay on the utility of character tropes, especially in the world of romance games. Tropes can be a great place to start constructing characters to ensure that they all have their own appeal, and they're just fun to experience as a reader, especially when it's one of your faves. There's no shame in being a bit tropey, if it suits the story you want to tell!

(And if you're looking for a bit of extra ~secret sauce~: give your characters two things they want super badly, but getting one thing will compromise the other. Safety and love are a classic pair; safety often means staying closed off from other people to avoid being hurt, love requires opening up to others. Then let them struggle with those competing wants.)

I don't take a lot of pictures of myself, because I don't really like the way that I look most of the time😅 Recently, that's been getting a lot better though, since I got top surgery, started showering regularly again and taking better care of my hair. I'm an AuDHD-er (autism is self-diagnosed) and am currently recovering from what I suspect is burnout. I'm pretty sure I burnt out during high school. When I was in school, I always had to work harder than everyone else in class, on account of being the slowest. I write slower, make more mistakes and sometimes it takes me longer to process information. A lot of times, this caused me to hold everyonein class back with lessons and made me feel very ashamed. Every year, with a new class, I knew that I was the slowest out of everyone there. I also have a really hard time studying, without writing everything down or highlighting everything.

Everything started going downhill in 10th grade (16 yrs). It was really scary, having to watch as my grades/marks went down more and more with every passing term. Mostly in Science and Maths and sometimes EGD (Engineering Graphics and Design). No matter how much or how hard or how smart I worked, they just kept going down. If they weren't going down, they were stagnant. And I was the nerd. I was constantly spending my time with my nose in a book, or doing some type of homework or studying. Every afternoon, immediately after school (and all evening), even during breaktime/lunch - I would sit and do homework. I never went out with friends, went to parties or sleepovers (in high school. I did have and go to sleepoves in primary school, though. Those were fun). My whole life revolved around school. In high school, I didn't really have close friends. You know when you're friends with someone, but you only ever see them in school? It was like that. Those were the only friends I had in high school. So, essentially, I didn't really feel like I belonged anywhere.

Electrical Technology was fun, though🙃 I was the only "girl" in class, so being the top student and getting better grades than the boys that bullied me, felt that much better 😆😂

Having my final year in 2020, really did it for me. 2019 is the last time I remember everything being "normal". I still have a semblance of regret for not being able to have that high school anime (love) story that everyone talks about. *Sigh🌸* It was also really tough, knowing that that was our year of lasts and we didn't get to do all the things that students usually do in that year. I still remember the feeling of not being able to hug my teachers or my friends, how empty, quiet and orderly the hallways felt. Lifeless...It was horrible.

ENIX, he/him - he's actually one of my older ocs, i created him way back in 2017 when i was like 11 😭 fun fact! his original name was vixen but due to the definition of the word bugging me i recently changed his name to enix :3 another fact but kind of an embarrassing one - he used to have DID, and my 11 year old ass played RIGHT into the "evil alter" trope, so yeahhhh... the only good thing to come out of that was that the "evil alter" eventually became a wholly separate blorbo, named feliks! who we will get into now B)

FELIKS, he/him - my fucking sweet baby. my angel. he has gone through so many transformations it's hilarious

here he is in his "evil alter" days. already got the black eye to signify his "evilness". though i don't think it took very long for me to decide that he was actually the host of the body, not enix. in any case his usual day-to-day activities included pissing everyone around him off and trying some evil schemes every now and then

in like 2018 i got REALLY into this visual novel called "the arcana" and feliks was the ex best friend of the MC my friend cooked up for our version of the story. i didn't want him to be a cyclops for this iteration because i thought it didn't fit the theme, so he had to get a human design. he didn't have DID in this version, but he did have an identical twin brother, named vance. in this story feliks killed vance and became the boyfriend of the villain of the story, also becoming one of the villains in the process. his ex best friend ellis ended up defeating him and he got hanged with his boyfriend for their crimes

now here's where the story gets really juicy. feliks reincarnated in the modern world, and i think i ditched him having DID and instead the "alters" turned out to be the fragmented parts of feliks' dead brother's personality. vance had basically come back to haunt him in a form that was kind of comparable to alters, but also not really

the main arcana characters alongside ellis also reincarnated and ended up finding feliks (who was still evil btw). they were kind of like a friend group for a while until shit hit the fan when everyone found out that feliks killed his brother way back in their past life (they had no idea up until now). ellis became incredibly angry with him and him being a magician turned feliks into water and put him in a vase so he wouldn't be able to hurt anyone ever again

before this happened though i think ellis and his also magician boyfriend were able to piece vance back together and give him a body, so he was reincarnated too. after receiving a second chance at life, vance got himself a boyfriend, and even got married with him. the happiness didn't last for long though when feliks was able to sneak himself in his water form into vance's husband's water bottle. the husband drunk the water and ended up possessed by feliks 🙃 feliks killed vance AGAIN, was able to return to his own body by also killing vance's husband, annnnddd... then ellis caught up to him and beheaded him with his scythe. (god i still love this story)

after death feliks became a demon in hell, and that's basically where his story ends. idk i must've gotten another interest at this point because i didn't get any further with the story

in 2020 i decided to revamp him AGAIN, this time making my own fantasy universe for him. i got a couple of my friends involved with it too (this was basically a species i made specifically for that thing and my friends made ocs of that species). the story for it was really juicy too but im not gonna be telling about it cus it's almost identical to my current project with him and i might wanna make it into a real thing one day so.. I’m sorry but this vampire event is so good??? I love it???????

I was a little confused at first because I really thought the side characters would be turning into vampires, but the bros were the only ones that did. But! I actually liked it this way lol.

Some events are pretty underwhelming while others are just okay, but every once in a while we get a really good one. This varies for other people of course depending on faves and what not. But I thought this was a really good event.

I loooooved that we got to spend most of the time with the side characters. I love them all so much.

Not gonna lie, though, I did get some real life 2020 flashbacks due to the whole quarantine and pandemic stuff.

Like I wish I’d been this delusional in 2020.

But what I don’t understand is why Satan got sick? They said it only affected fallen angels, right? And yet Satan got infected? My guess is this was just easier than having him be the only brother who was immune. I’m not gonna read into that lol.

I also enjoyed how the shorter end route was just humorous while the longer end route was more involved.

I mean what’s an Obey Me event without the usual brotherly nonsense right?

This whole part was just too funny.

But then in the longer route, things get more intense. The way MC works together with all the side characters to handle the brothers and stop the virus… that was pretty epic! And then the little chat with Diavolo and then Solomon just having a whole conversation about biting you.

Yeah and then we get to say we want him to bite us and he’s all well I don’t want to hurt you… and like okay that’s sweet and all, but that’s kind of the point Solomon! You can’t just say something like that and then back out!

I also loved how much Luke content we got… our son is so cute!

Yes because feeding the brothers garlic meat pies that Solomon made is being nice about it lol.

And oooohhhh this line was so coooool. I would think Barbatos is the only one other than perhaps Diavolo who could actually take on Lucifer. And he does it with a smile lol.

I’m also a little curious about all this talk of actual vampires in the Devildom and how Diavolo wants to be friends with them. Is this something that’s event specific or is this relevant to the overall story? It feels event specific but it’s interesting to think about how something like that could change things.

Anyway, I haven’t felt compelled to write a post about an event in a while, but I really liked this one!

“One, Two, Three, Hello everyone! I’m Cai Daiyu and this is-” Her eyes beamed happily, turning her attention to the man beside her. “Heeseung of Enhypen!” Heeseung replied as the two waved to the camera, creating a little heart. Two idols, South Korea’s most loved couple, stood in front of  Music Bank as the MCs for the show. To the camera, they were the perfect couple, with no flaws, and for a while, they were just that. They had everything you could ever look for in a relationship, the communication skills, the love that fired, they’ve even countless times met each other's parents. Everyone in Korea did think they would get married, but even if moments seemed happy, they were not all beautiful.

  “I feel our relationship is not working out for us both. Busy schedules and you heading on your world tour, it’s become harder and harder to see each other,” Daiyu now spoke as she looked sadly up at Heeseung. Her heart was shattering every second as she knew what had to be done about their relationship. He was her whole world, but that world had now begun to split apart from one another as they drifted out of the Milkyway. She tried to keep her composure steady, not break down so quickly. It hurt, it really did. They’d been together since 2020 and now it seemed that they both rose in popularity and couldn’t keep holding one another’s hand. As much as they tried to hold it, there was a force that pushed their hands down.

“I understand,” Heeseung replied sadly, understanding what the two had to do. Those two years were the best for him and now they were only memories. He wanted to hold her close to him, one more time, one more day, one more year before she completely left him. He could not imagine a day without her, but now he had to make the decision of letting her go. With the final works of goodbye, their lips met one another in a final longing kiss, one neither wanted to pull away from, afraid of the goodbye. The feeling of one another’s warmth grew cold, and with one last admiration, they went their separate ways. 

Cai Daiyu went back to her hometown in China, handling more of her idol career under the sub-entertainment label of her one back in South Korea. Heeseung continued life in South Korea, having small interviews from time to time where he had to let the media be reminded that they broke up on good terms and that they just could not make ends meets. No matter how many times Daiyu was brought up in the conversation and how many times he pretended as he had moved on, nobody compared to her and he still found himself crying at night to missing her touch and wanting nothing more than to just hold her throughout the night. He blames himself, telling himself that he should have just told her to stay one more night, one more night for him to make things right. Heeseung missed her to death, his heart was in pain and aching for her, only her.

Daiyu sat at her desk, removing her makeup for the night as she did her final stream for the day. She was answering a few fans' questions, the sounds of soft lo-fi music in the background. She looked at one comment catching her eye almost instantly. “Post a selfie if you miss Heeseung.” She thought read it, letting out a quiet hum before clearing her throat. “Thank you all for coming to my live, I’ll talk to you all again tomorrow. Bye my lovelies!” She smiled softly, waving goodbye to the camera before ending the live stream. Once the screen showed the live ended, she slouched back in her chair, a sigh escaping her lips.

Had it really been a year since they ended everything? She missed him so much still, but she could never find herself to admit it. She missed him so much, no matter what, he was her one and only who made her feel like she was always on cloud nine. She wanted more than anything to go back to how they were. She missed him all too much. Why was she the one still crying over him? From all the interviews she’s seen of him, it looked like he seemed so happy doing what he loved. She wanted him so badly, but he was no longer hers and that was the end of the story. “Could we ever really go back to how we were before?” She questioned herself with a small snicker. The breakup seemed to shock the whole world, even her parents who yelled at her for ending it. They all knew he was the only one she needed and yet, she let him go because she got so scared of the future, the future of growth. Why did she do that to him? After everything they went through, she was so quick to run away. Was he taken again? In a secret relationship? She wasn’t so sure, all the scandals of dating seemed to be completely all false, and yet she feared one day those false ones would be true about him.

Getting up from the chair, she decided to take one more selfie for the night, laying in bed and soon snapping the picture before posting it with the caption, ‘Heading to bed now, see you all at the fan meet tomorrow!’ Once the photo she put her phone down, but with all too quickly, her phone buzzed and her heart seemed to start racing all over again. She was amazed, maybe even shocked of who was texting her at this our. It was no other than Lee Heeseung, the one man she had been missing for a whole year now, he was texting her. 

( Heeseung ) I missed you too

Daiyu quickly rose up from her bed, her eyes were widened. No way was he actually the one who commented that. This could not actually be happening, she had to be dreaming, something. There had to be some other explanation to this and not him actually missing her as much as she was. After all, he looked so happy, there could be no way that he loved her still. She decided thought o reply back, playing the dumb card on him.

( Daiyu ) When did I say I missed you?

( Heeseung ) Don’t try to act cute, I know that you miss me too

( Daiyu ) Too bad, I’m all the way back in China, don’t think it will work out

( Heeseung ) I… I can fly to China….?

( Daiyu ) You’re not busy?

( Heeseung ) My work can wait just to see you :3

( Daiyu ) You sure?

( Heeseung ) I’m sure

(Heeseung ) You know how much I missed you

( Daiyu ) Then I guess I’ll see you tomorrow <3

She turned her phone off, screaming into her pillow happily. Daiyu was kicking her feet, that fluttery feeling in her heart returning to her. She was going to see Heeseung again, the one she forever wanted to stay with. What would they even talk about? Was he maybe wanting to get back together? So many questions ran through her head as she was excited to see him again. Lee Heeseung, her one and only man, the one guy who was capable to sweep her off her feet. She couldn’t be anymore happier.

The next day arrived as Heeseung arrived in China, waiting patiently for Daiyu. He wore a black cap and black mask, alongside a black leather jacket, white t-shirt, black loose pants, and some black high-heeled boots. He seemed to fiddle with his hands nervously, wondering how this meeting would go and if the two could maybe start again. He wanted to, more than anything was to be with her. With all the countless restless nights he’s had without her, he wanted more than anything to wake up in the morning with her by his side. He didn’t want any more of the nightmares that followed without her by him.

Daiyu slowly made her way to the airport, her bodyguards by her side as she walked, scanning the area for Heeseung. She wore a black shirt with a semi-turtleneck, black high-waisted shorts, a white lapel coat, and black knee-high boots. She also wore a white mask. Lifting her head up, she finally found his standing figure, a wide grin forming behind her mask and before she knew it, she was running up to him, jumping into his arms for a loving hug. “I’ve missed you.” She finally confessed, tears falling down.

“I’ve missed you too, my one and only,” Heeseung hugged her tightly, but his eyes filled with tears. He kept blinking, he was happy to finally see her again, but at the same time, he was crying. It had been soon long and now, he had her in his arms. He could finally hug her again just like he wanted to. His head now rested on her shoulder, pulling him as close as he could, not daring to let her go. 

“I wanna give us a second chance,” She admitted, the tears continuing to flow down her cheeks as she looked up at him. She needed him more than anything in her life, she couldn’t to lose him again. This was the man she dreamed of every day and now she was hugging him again. She felt so stupid for breaking up with him and now she could finally say she wanted to be with him again. She wanted the old relationship back and she hoped that he would forgive her for ever doubting them.

“S-second chance….?” He seemed stunned by her asking him this. He wasn’t expecting her to just come right out and confess, but yet again he wanted to hear those words from her. This had to be a dream, but yet it wasn’t. He was actually hugging her and the both were just crying now. All those feelings they had for each other before, it was still there, they still loved one another even in times of not being together. Forever and always, Daiyu was waiting for him, just like he was waiting for her. 

“I don’t ever want to lose you again,” Daiyu now slid her mask down, looking him in the eyes and showing him she was ready to take that leap in coming back to him, that she was serious about this relationship with him.

“I don’t want to lose you again, let’s try again. Let’s start dating again,” And with that, Heeseung pulled his own mask down, pulling Daiyu closer to him as he pulled her into a sweet and loving kiss. He missed this, he missed her, and now he had her again, He had the love of his life. After a year apart, they could finally be together again. May the moons and stars align, for now, and ever, they were each other’s one and only….

Fluff… Premise: Climbing Trees You are working in the garden when you hear a plaintive cry. Upon searching for the source, you discover Vincent’s pet racoon Brush is stuck in a tree. Apparently, he was trying to get something shiny out of a hollow limb and could not be convinced to let go and come down safely. Deciding there was nothing else to be done you finally scale the tree in an effort to save the poor screeching creature. You discover that you can break away part of the hollowed part of the limb and free Brush’s paw. With one more screech in your direction the racoon makes off with the shiny button—his new treasure—without a backward glance. It is only then that you realize your predicament. Despite scrambling up the tree with ease in an effort to save the distressed animal… getting down was an entirely different matter. Vincent You considered your options carefully—wishing you had done that before you scrambled up the tree after brush—the biggest problem seemed to be your shoes. While they were sensible enough for working around the mansion doing housework, they certainly weren’t fit for climbing trees. You considered if you should take them off and toss them to the ground. Even if the rough bark scratched up your feet a little it would still be safer than falling, wouldn’t it? “_? Is that you up there?” A familiar angelic voice asked from below.

The question was followed by a familiar string of chitters. You peered down toward the ground and found Brush and Vincent looking up at you anxiously. “Ah… hi Vincent. Nice day for climbing trees, right?” Your face suddenly felt like it was on fire and you could only hope that the shade of the tree masked the effect a little. “Brush just ran up to me acting quite agitated. I take it he is the reason you are in this predicament?” Vincent asked pressing his lips together in an awkward manner. You realize he was trying not to smile. Great, if this situation made the resident angel laugh at you it must be amusing. “Yes, actually…” You sigh as you admit the truth. “Well then, since you helped Brush I think I certainly owe you a hand.” Vincent said kindly. “I’ll be right back. I think I saw a ladder in the gardening shed.”

You sighed in relief at those words and watched Vincent disappear around the corner of the mansion. Soon he came back lugging an old wooden ladder which he placed against the tree. Now for the next problem. How to climb down without flashing the poor vampire below you. You tried to gather your skirts semi tightly around one arm, but it definitely wasn’t working very well. Seeming to realize your attempt at propriety Vincent’s face had gotten a little rosy. “Do you want me to close my eyes while I hold the ladder? Or just back away?” “I-uh-I don’t know.” You blushed trying to get your foot on the top rung and— You definitely missed. You instead accidentally kicked the ladder over and the motion made you lose your balance. You fell on top of your rescuer with a thud, hardly having a moment to blink before you were on the ground instead of in the tree. “Ow.” Vincent groaned beneath you. You immediately began scrambling off the poor man. “I’m so sorry Vincent! Are you hurt? Did I break anything? Theo is so going to kill me for falling on you!!” You panicked as you tried to help him up. Unfortunately, he was laughing too hard to make your efforts very effective. “I’m so sorry _. That was just so unexpected. I didn’t think I’d be rescuing a pretty lady from a tree today, and I certainly didn’t expect her to land on me.” He wiped at the tears that escaped from the corners of his eyes as he laughed. It was such a beautiful contagious laugh that soon you found yourself laughing too. Luckily you both managed to calm down and get to your feet without upsetting Brush with your odd behavior. The racoon simply watched the two of you warily as you went with Vincent to put the ladder away. The two of you were still apologizing and laughing every few minutes as you returned to the mansion. “Are you really okay?” You asked. “I’m the one that should be asking you that. You fell the furthest.” He laughed. “And I promise not to tell Theo you landed on me. Although it may not completely remain a secret. I don’t know if I can keep a neutral expression around you anytime soon.” His grin was still angelic. You wondered how he managed to be endearing even while he was teasing you. “Well you are welcome to smile and laugh all you like, Vincent. As long as it doesn’t make me incur your little brother’s wrath.” You laughed. “Who exactly was going to incur my wrath, Hondje?” Theo asked stiffly. He was standing on the pathway up ahead of them with a grim expression on his face. His fierce blue eyes—so similar to Vincent’s—were far less welcoming. “Theo, you’re back early? I take it the sale went well?” Vincent asked brightly.

“Yes, it did.” Theo offered his brother a gentle smile before turning a glare on you. “You aren’t making a nuisance of yourself, are you? Vincent was supposed to be painting this afternoon not returning lost pets to the mansion.” “Ah no, Theo. _ was helping me actually. You see Brush got into some trouble. I was very fortunate she came along to help.” “Brush?” Theo was still staring at you and raised a skeptical eyebrow. “Yes, the curious little fellow managed to tangle up his paw and couldn’t get free. Poor Brush was alarmed enough to alert the entire neighborhood.” You shrugged. “Anyway, I’m off to start painting again now that I’ve thanked _ and walked her back to the Mansion.” Vincent shrugged, “Do you want to come see what I’m working on, brother?” “So, she didn’t distract you completely from your work?” Theo looked genuinely surprised. “Theo.” Vincent said his brothers name almost sternly. “I’m coming. See you at dinner kanbeltje.” Theo said reluctantly following his elder brother. You watched them disappear along the path into the garden, marveling for a moment at the contrast the two of them represented. Then you slipped into the mansion to help Sebastian prepare dinner. It was Sebastian that had to point out that you had a branch from the tree poking out of your hair.

I hope this doesn't come across as rude, offensive or upsetting since I saw a lot of people coming to your askbox. People need to know that Cheritz can't cater to all their needs and wants. I've seen too many people demanding, complaining and just... being ungrateful in general? And here I am feeling relieved that they still want to release these CGs despite no new in-game content since 2020. Even the comment about MC's body is quite upsetting if I'm being honest. I get why people would feel insecure over it but if they're being careless with their words, it could be potentially harmful for people with that type of body and going through a difficult time. We don't know what people are going through and struggles come with all body sizes and types. I don't even look like MC and it doesn't stop me from enjoying the new art in general. Maybe if people really want an art that's catered to their specific looks, they could consider commissioning someone or draw it themselves. I know plenty of artists that would be honored to do their requests. Ballet shoes come in one same design and it's really up to the dancers on how they want to mold, adjust and change their shoes according to their comfort and priorities! Cheritz just give us the material and it's up to us on what to do with it. It just rub me the wrong way on how people react so strongly and quick to complain when there's plenty of solutions right in front of us. I don't think that Anon intended for their message to come across as harmful. It can be difficult to have no representation of yourself in the media. I just wanted to point out that it's important to be mindful of our words sometimes, especially when we're expressing our personal hurt we've experienced, because sometimes our words can hurt the people around us even if we don't intend them to. It's important to be thoughtful!

Because, hey, I am upset that there's not a lot of representation for plus size characters, too. It's gotten a little better recently compared to what it was like when I was a kid, but we've still got a long way to go to make a change so little kids don't learn to hate their bodies like many people already have. It takes forever to unlearn that kind of self hatred, and even longer to learn how to love yourself again.

I just wanted to point out to the anon that we should be mindful of how we express our distress at fatphobia by not tearing other people down in the process, either knowingly or unknowingly. Because, at the end of the day, fatphobia is rooted in racism and a bunch of total bullshit that hurts everyone.

I do support commissioning artists, though. If you want to see art of yourself or your character that fulfills the idea you have, support your favorite artist to get it! I do that all the time and it fills me with joy to see art that fits my niche if I couldn't draw it myself.

1. A Tale of 1000 Stars (2021 , Thailand)

Okay so you loved bad buddy which means you NEED to watch 1000 stars because it's made my the same guy, P'Aof, who we love and cherish. This show is about Tian, a spoilt rich boy who lives life on the edge until he learns he has heart disease and gets a heart transplant. His donor is a lovely volunteer teacher called Torfun, who is a literal angel and died in a car accident (rip torfun). Overcome with survivors guilt, Tian moves out to the rural village Torfun was working in to continue her work. The village is on the border of Thailand and thus is vulnerable to danger from militia/criminals/arms traders/generally not nice people, and is under the care of the forest guard headed by Chief Phupha, who is ridiculously hot for no reason. This is all very hallmark movie tbh, with Tian escaping the pressure of the city to find himself in the countryside and also he and the chief are the only two hot people so obviously they have to get together. Their dynamic starts out as very antagonistic and banter-y, but it quickly shifts into soft territory. It's just a really lovely story about two people who have gone through a lot, and find a home in each other. The pairing, phutian, is more mature than patpran, and the chemistry between Earth and Mix is sooooo palpable it kinda hurts to witness it. FUCK ME this show is JUST SO GOOD. Also drake is here <3

If you want: rural escapism, hot men in uniform, the MOST steadfast and romantic love story ever told, love at first fight, mature MCs who like each other and are assured and confident in their relationship, shirtless product placement, the perfect amount of angst, knightley and emma vibes, and there was only one mosquito net, this is the show for you.

2. Where Your Eyes Linger (2020, Korea)

(Imagine me in an alleyway with a long trench coat beckoning you towards me). Hey kid,,,, i heard you like bodyguard AUs and power dynamics,,,,maybe a little codependency on the side? I've got a few for you but how about this one to start? Its short, its korean and goddamn does it hit.

Tae-Joo is a pouty rich boy with a knack for getting into trouble, Kang Gook is his stoic and repressed bodyguard who protects him from everything. They're codependant; they go to the same school, both do judo together, hell they sleep in the same bed! Don't question it, the tropes are truely tropeing in this show and thats all we care about. This show is truely a BL speedrun. All together the runtime is less than 90 minutes, we know hardly anything about these central characters but who cares they're compelling. Small warning for ear stuff.

3. Moonlight chicken (2023, Thailand)

Note: please watch 1000 stars before this (and give yourself a good amount of time/shows between them).

Moonlight Chicken was P'Aof's next show after bad buddy and BOY was it a good one. Departing from adapting pre-existing novels, this is an original story written specifically for the actors Earth and Mix (as well as for specific side actors too!). Set in post-covid tourist town Pataya, Moonlight Chicken is about Jim, the owner of a struggling diner which is famous for selling hainanese chicken rice. One night he meets Wen and they spend the night together. I know you're not a prude like me but just a warning these two fuck in part 1 of ep 1 and after 1000 stars it can be a shock to the system (also more ear stuff so a warning for that). As their relationship progresses we learn more about both of their messy past relationships and how those relationships have shaped them. It's predominantly character driven so it makes for really interesting drama and nuanced critiques of queer identity in thailand.

ALSO there's a lovely side love story between Li Ming (Jim's nephew) and Heart, a lonely kid who has recently become hard of hearing and isn't supported by his rich/able-bodied parents. These two are honestly the highlight for me, it's a really sweet and understated friendship turned romance. It's also quite nuanced in its exploration of disability and the lack of services for disabled people. I was so suprised by the actors Fourth and Gemini who are so young but literally carry this whole show on their backs?? Sensational. I also wanna give a special mention of First and Khaotung who both look so pretty when they cry <3 Also mark pakin is here.

If you want: sexy one night stand which turns into something more, a more mature couple who work through their past relationship baggage, found family, a MC who is the guardian (but not parent) of an angsty teen, a VERY WHOLESOME and soft side couple, good disability representation, yummy commentary on the experiences of queer people in Thailand, and the single most hysterical line in BL history "isn't it difficult enough being poor? and now you're gay?", this is the show for you.

4. We Best Love: No. 1 For You (2021, Taiwan)

TAIWAN IS IN THE HOUSE BABY! I can't believe we haven't recced you a Taiwanese show yet....although no I can believe it because these guys don't mess around and their shows can be kinda full on. This is a nice starter though, nice and short with only 6 episodes, great tropes and chemistry that'll knock your socks off. The premise is simple – Zhao Shu Yi is another pouty rich boy who has been in a hearted one-sided rivalry with Gao Shi De who he HATES because he's always ranking second to him in school/sports. Gao Shi De on the other hand is in a one-sided unrequited situation with Shu Yi, and is only #1 in anything so his crush will notice him. When Shu Yi is heartbroken bc his two besties just got together and he had a crush on the girl, Shi De uses it as a prime opportunity to get closer with him....by blackmailing him into being his little servant around uni..... Because this show is Taiwanese it goes kinda hard with the manipulation and toxicity hahahah but trust its way less toxic than a lot of other BLs. Delicious tropes are everywhere in this one, and the rivalry aspect will certainly help heal the wounds left by bad buddy. Small warning for someone singing in ep 4.

If you want: academic rivals to lovers, power dynamics, forced proximity, jealousy, there was only one bed (actually it was two singles but they pushed them together), acts of service, a tsundere MC and a pining but confident love interest, silly fun times with a side order of toxicity, and a second season I deleted from my mind bc i hated it so much, this is the show for you.

5. Our Dining Table (2023, Japan)

There has been a distinct lack of cosy japanese shows on this list so far and for that I am sorry. But let me offer you this soft domestic treat as a reward for your patience. Yutaka is a lonely introvert who has some family trauma. One day he's minding his own business eating his lunch in the park when a ridiculously cute child accosts him and eats his lunch. The kid's older brother/guardian is very apologetic but asks Yutaka to come back to teach him how to cook rice balls. Truely this concept could only happen in Japan where its apparently not dangerous to invite random dudes who give your kids rice balls in public parks over for dinner. Anyway this show is found family at its finest, soft and low stakes with cute characters and a nice slow burn. It's very reminiscent of other japanese shows, specifically cherry magic, where the introverted MC connects with his love interest but is also forced to connect with the lovely other people around him. Also idk where they found the little kid playing Tane because he just so chaotic and cute it makes me wanna scream.

If you want: found family, acts of service, domesticity, a shy MC coming out of their shell to their partner, a rough around the edges but fond love interest who is the guardian of a young child, youngest child trauma rep, a hot older dad, and the universal japanese BL love language of rice porridge, scarves, and tamagoyaki (japanese omelettes) this is the show for you.

6. Midnight Museum shut up its BL (2023, Thailand)

Between March and April of 2023 I was INSANE about this show, it was all i thought about, it was all i talked about, it was all i read about. It OWNED ME. The show is about Khatha, an immortal loser who literally can't use facetime bc he's such a grandpa, who runs a museum for cursed artefacts. He meets Dome, who mysteriously looks like Khatha's "brother"/lover/little bud from many centuries ago. Also every ep we're looking at a new artefact and also there's an evil cult that may or may not be related to Dome's lookalike. GOD, how do I even explain the plot to you? Half of this show is set in the eponymous museum but the other half is set on an asteroid??? Some of it is a period romance, and some of it is a detective show. THE christian god figures as a semi-major character? Everyone is hot but absolutely NOBODY is fucking its insane.

I'm going to be clear with you, this show is not good. Does the plot make sense? no. Is it well paced/written? Debatable. Is it acted out by some of gmmtv's best to such a sensational level you can't look away? YES. Give this one four eps and i promise you'll be as crazy as me, as soon as the monster of the week format dies down gmmtv pulls out all the stops. Nanon and Tay are personal faves throughout but Tor and Gun are also sensational in their acting and commitment to the queerbait. I think this could be a good one for the IWAV comedown because it's steeped in gothic homoeroticism and its supernatural too.

If you want: hot people, queerbait at its finest, supernatural lore that barely makes any sense, monster of the week turned conspiracy theory, proof that god himself wants to fuck Gun Attaphan, all your problematic faves, and evil Nanon Korapat tag teaming it with Gun in the olympic sport that is serving cunt, this is the show for you.

7. Only Friends (2023, Thailand)

You were there when we were watching this so I know you remember how insane we were when it was on. This show also covers the interview with a vampire comedown criteria in that it's full of sad and toxic gay people. This show is truely just a big old slutty mess and i enjoyed every second of it. plenty of yummy pairings, hot people and depending on what order you watch this list in some familiar faces too. Plot? It barely has one. But why is this some of the best written character focused tv ive watched?? Everyone has a fatal flaw and acts according to that. Mew is a virgin. Top is a manwhore. Boston is a sociopath. Nick is a literal criminal. Ray is a slutty alcoholic. Sand is into indie music. They may make bad choices but we understand why so it's not annoying. It's sensational and you simply cannot look away but for the love of god you will need to wear earphones. There's also some delightfully racy Drake based sex scenes and also a lesbian side couple who are the least problematic people here.

If you want: MESS, that one friend group where everyone's fucking, a demi MC that makes me feel so seen, a slutty sociopath manipulating everyone, the most wet and pathetic mark pakin you'll ever witness, more mess, serious breeches of privacy laws, ships that are so toxic you feel you shouldn't be rooting for them but the chemistry is too good, and lesbians that don't get indie films, this is the show for you.

Bonus: Our Skyy 2: Bad Buddy x 1000 stars (2023)

If you're considering watching this rn I am assuming you watched 1000 stars (and loved it). I know you're gonna watch this anyway so I just want to make sure you're going in with enough context. So this is the second season of Our Skyy (the first of which came out in 2018). Our Skyy is an anthology series which is a collection of specials for preexisting GMMTV shows. It's essentially pure fanfic.....except it's made by the same people who made the original shows. It's fanfic-y because it never makes any sense, it routinely features silly plot points like body swaps, time travel, curses, magic babies, etc. The great thing about ourskyy is we get to see more of our faves, the other great thing is because it has such crack fanfic energy you can take it or leave it canon wise. Anyway you're in for a damn treat with this one because it's a crossover ep between patpran and phutian and i am FERAL.

If you want: pure fanfiction of our two fave p'aof pairings hanging out, fanservice upon fanservice, more secret dating and chaotic horniness from patpran, domestic disputes and petty banter from phutian, fix-it fic levels of CLOSURE for both couples, heaps of recreations of different scenes, fanboy patpran having gay crisises about meeting both Tian and Phu, and another rooftop scene which makes me SOB this is the show for you!

YNaM Retrospectives – Chap. II

         It’s me again, back with another chapter of my Retrospectives~  Just in time too, for the second Koishi day, apparently…  Anyway, I’m not too sure of the ethical considerations of making these sorts of posts with YNaM still unfinished, but a few people seemed to enjoy the last one, and that’s more than enough for me!

          Y’know, as I keep writing these, it feels like I’m veering into writingcraft more and more.  So I’d like to address something—basically, that I’m still very much an amateur!  While I’ve been writing for a good bit (12-ish years), and I like to think I have some things nailed down, I’m far from an expert.  I’ve never actually published anything (not that I’ve tried), and a lot of what I “know” I learned from trial-and-error, just figuring out what I liked and didn't. It feels kind of...self-important, in a way, writing about what I think as if I somehow know what I’m doing.  But then again, I feel the same way about posting on Twitter, and everybody already does that, so maybe it’s just me?

          So I’ll just put it like this (and never mention it again):  I like explaining how I think of things, but I don’t know if they’re right!  I’m just a hobbyist who loves Touhou yuri, trying to get better at writing~  I’m just super happy and grateful people enjoy my work!

          Anyway, now that that’s out of the way—Scene 1!

          So in my last post, I mentioned how I always felt Flan’s reaction to Remi setting her up to be at the party was a little melodramatic—well, it seems 2021 me agreed with me!  God, like half of Chap. II S1 is just me backpedaling on that.  Like, I had Flan’s outburst to give her some agency and build tension, but a) she’s not stupid, and b) she can’t be annoying to the reader, so I had to resolve it as quickly as possible (from Flan’s perspective, anyway).  From what I’ve seen in other media, making a character super whiny or stubborn over trivial things is a great way to make your whole audience hate them.  I was really scared of that, back in the day.  And even now, it’s a line I have to toe constantly, since so much of the conflict in YNaM is introspective and psychological…

          Fun fact!  I quite like putting references to other stories in YNaM, and Chap. II S1 has the first of them.  When Flan is describing Satori and Koishi, she mentions their eyes as “just flopping around”—this is a turn of phrase/running gag from the KoiFlan fic Bloody Retrograde Prequel Vignettes, by SumDumMuffin.

          God I love Vignettes so much.  It’s a bit flawed, and it wasn’t ever finished (I sob), but I love it so, so much.  It’s tragic yet sweet, doesn’t infantilize Flan, and there are some great headcanons to boot (indecipherable Scottish Yuugi, truly incredible headcanon); like, Koishi and Flandre just have so much chemistry and heart to them...   It wasn’t what got me into KoiFlan shipping (I have Yohane to thank for that), but it was what turbocharged it to OTP levels.

          Honestly, Vignettes being left unfinished for so long was what pushed me over the edge in writing YNaM in the first place!  Back in late 2020, I’d been reading Touhou and yuri for years, and already liked KoiFlan, but I loved Vignettes so much that once I got to end and realized it was unfinished, my heart hurt.  Around the same time, I decided to dip my toe in the water of Touhou fanfiction with that year’s NaNoWriMo, for which I did a gen adventure fic with Kagerou as MC (that will never see the light of day).  So, of course, I rode a massive wave of misguided confidence all through the rough draft of YNH/YNaM, thinking I could fully finish YNaM in like, six months—at which point I realized I had no idea how much work it took to actually make a longfic, much less a good longfic…  Makes the 100k words of Vignettes seem herculean to me now…

          As a result, I'm determined to see YNaM through to completion.  I’m still a long way from completing that goal (and honestly things looked a little shaky there for awhile), but I’m trying my best!  Doing these little side projects help too; they’re kind of like burnout prevention measures lol       

          Anyway, on to Scene 2—I actually remember this scene quite well because of how inordinately difficult it was to write at the time.  For one, it required actual research (gasp), but also because I had to finalize this same scene twice.

          See, when I was originally hashing out Flan and Koi’s character dynamics in YNH, Koishi was very different.  She was much more quiet, reserved, and flat—basically, the way she acts towards Flan in this scene, only all the time.  She had a distinct speech style too—stiff, formal, and no contractions.  Like, I had a reason for it—it not only Flan’s speech style on the page, but also contrasted open-eye Koishi vs canon closed-eye Koishi.  So I thought it fit.  But, when it came time to convert YNH into YNaM, I completed Scene 2 with that original characterization—and it just felt so off.  The character I’d written wasn’t Koishi, it was an OC masquerading as Koishi.  And worse, that character didn’t even work—I had pages upon pages of stilted speech, dull dynamics (because Flan and OC!Koishi were too similar to one another), and a character that just didn’t feel anything like Koishi.

          I’ll elaborate more on this at some point, cuz I could write a whole article on this, but—even though I’m writing an AU, I still want the characters to be recognizable as themselves.  Otherwise, what’s the point of writing fanfiction?  I dunno, it’s important to me that YNaM Flan feels like an interpretation of Flandre, rather than someone different, someone alien.  Cuz there’s a difference, in my eyes.  Like, I really hope that even though she has a conscious mind, YNaM Koishi still feels like Koishi, even if we only get to see it when she’s happy.

          Now, this is all rendered incredibly ironic considering Chap. III, but I digress.

          Anyway, I finally had the good sense to redo Koishi’s characterization.  But I’d already finalized Scene 2, so I had to rip apart a functioning scene and redo all the dialogue.  A little tedious, but no problem, right?  But transliterating the dialogue wrecked the flow, Koishi’s new personality completely flipped the character dynamics, and above all I needed to make Koishi more expressive without clashing with Flandre, and through doing all this I’d completely destroyed the momentum of the scene—it was a mess. A step away from a total rewrite.

          Even reading it back now, I feel like it’s held together with prosaic duct-tape (particularly towards the middle), but at least I finished it.  That’s the important part, and the part I learned from.

          So yeah!  That’s all I have to say about Chap. II.  Tune in next week for my thoughts on Chap. III—and god knows I have a bone to pick with that one.

          Oh also—I’ll announce this on my Twitter at some point, but I’m gonna start taking oneshot suggestions now~  If you're reading this and you have an idea or situation for a short KoiFlan fic, feel free to shoot me a message over here on Tumblr and maybe I'll write it out!           PS: I died laughing reading back that old A/N.  Particularly the words “mostly happy romance story”.  Yeah, because that’s totally what YNaM is, right…?  Just a happy romance story, nothing to see here…
