A one-sided jazz x Jason or batkid idea

Okay before i get into my own thing, i wanna link this oneshot i found on AO3 which i think is rad

Growing up in Amity Park with mad scientists for parents had not engendered in Jazz a normal sense of danger. She was completely chill in situations that would make most others cower in fear. There’s a reason she was willing to live in as seedy a part of Gotham as she did instead of seeking out more expensive but theoretically safer student housing.

But even so, there were limits. And catching her neighbor climbing up the fire escape at night heavily armed and covered in blood and gore went way beyond them. She is not living next door to a serial killer! Especially considering the way she’d caught him staring at her recently…

Which brought her here, packing her bags as quickly as she could after watching him leave for… whatever it was that he did during the day. She was gonna call the cops on him (not that they were likely to actually do that much in Gotham) and then crash over at her friend’s place until her first chance to transfer colleges to somewhere else.

Then, turning to survey the apartment one last time, a thought struck her. A bit of blood stains and wreckage to make it look like she was kidnapped would hopefully prevent him from realizing she was onto him and coming after her for revenge. Plus, getting to work off some of her own anger by breaking things might be therapeutic.

…And so, when Jason returned to his apartment building later that afternoon, it was to see it surrounded by cop cars. Apparently, someone had kidnapped his neighbor Jazz and ransacked her apartment. And there were no leads except that in her call, she had mentioned seeing a blood-soaked figure enter the building a previous night.

He felt dread and rage boil in his gut. He’d never even noticed anyone watching them. Could they have been after him, and attacked her as collateral? He hadn’t even asked her out yet, but he had mentioned his crush around his minions before. If that was the reason, whoever had snitched would pay.

Or even if it was just a coincidence, he’d still make those responsible regret it.

It was time for Red Hood to start hunting once again.

FIRST THING Erathis asks, "My child, is she cross with me?"

not 'hey how's the plan going,' 'i'm glad you guys got in okay', but 'IS MY GIRLFRIEND ANGRY :C'

and the answer. "you made. her. sad."

The immediate justification she launches into is very interesting, and as our first introduction to Erathis herself - our first meeting with her - I think it's very fitting and very open to nuance. Justice is not necessarily good, befitting a lawful neutral god.

And yet...

Take Morgan the sometimes duck sometimes dog but probably named Morgan. You're on a roadtrip. This is sometimes frustrating when Morgan needs to go on a walk or turn into a duck and go for a swim.

Enjoy a fridge with 4 milks. (Except terrible when you wake up and have less milk. I was so sad. I don't remember anything else from this dream.)

Uh. Can't remember much of my other non-nightmares at the moment.

Except for a distressing one with. too many bunnies. I couldn't keep them but they kept multiplying and I wanted to keep all of them. So fluffy. So many.

I swear I do have nice dreams! But sometimes writing a draft of something will unlock other memories and then I have a little theme going and I swear, I have great dreams too.

I dream in rom coms, more than once even, I dream in comics sometimes, I dream about silly vampires and sexy vampires and flying and dragons and angels. I dream in profound truths and surreal explorations. Only occasionally these days do I have unsettling or graphic dream.

It’s mostly quite good in my brain at night.

I love that Marta’s like ‘I have 15 minutes before my next meeting to make a baby and it’d better take on the first try.’ Marta wants one kid and one kid only as soon as possible, thank you. She doesn’t want to have to put up with Jaime and the role of dutiful wife for one more minute than strictly necessary.

You ever think about how Mai is always the MVP in SPR cases because although Naru is smarter than her, she has such a good memory & always starts brainstorming sessions about their cases (at times refuting Naru’s claims too by reminding him of what he said before lol) & leads Naru to have grand epiphanies many times lol

Like yeah she can see Naru’s visions because of Gene and Gene gives her some insights too but there are conclusions Mai makes by herself as well as the fact she always asks the right questions although she always throws them around flippantly (which is why Naru calls it as her “joking” 😭😭😭). She’s such an inquisitive and curious person and honestly has the makings of a genius but she’s so carefree and (to the psychics) inexperienced that you understand why SPR gang doubted her ideas most of the time.

Akumu no sumu ie tho really showed how much they trusted her now in terms of her dreams and the information she can get from Gene. Naru also trusted her to keep people safe more compared to Forgotten Children for ex.

I also think that Mai always has a hunger for growth throughout the series which is so relatable. She doesn’t want to be useless and she definitely doesn’t settle & helps in any way she can.

If I were to pinpoint a certain volume that really showcased her growth and when Naru started “seeing” her potential, it’s definitely volume 3 or the Kasai Panic case. Her discovery of the will-o-wisps and what their placement meant actually shocked Naru and Bou-san too when she told them (Gene didn’t even tell her to conclude that way).

I think that was also the time she started sharing her dreams to Naru? In any case, Kasai Panic case is hard objectively speaking because you’re not only torn between thinking it’s ghosts and it’s man-made phenomena, but then it’s actually both. Besides that, there’s a lot of psychological problems to think about with hysteria and paranoia in the mix. The anime makes the culprit obvious for me, but if you’re just reading the novels, you might also second-guess yourself.

If this was the usual detective show, you expect the “genius” to always steal the show, but in Ghost Hunt, you end up not only looking forward to Naru’s explanations but also to what Mai discovers and sees that isn’t the same as the rest of SPR and even opposite the genius which is Naru. Like you can really never say that Mai is “overshadowed” because she shines a lot in every case unlike those detective stories where it’s always the “genius” on the spotlight.

Anyways, I just love all the cases tbh They all have some uniqueness in them and deal with different themes regarding the human condition. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime anime and LN series🥺
