Human pretzels? good or bad? Although, natural flexibility lends itself to make poses with deep stretches easier to attain, hypermobility comes with its own challenges and risks. The fact that I can lock out a joint past 180 degrees puts me at risk for joint destabilization by relying to heavily on my ligaments & tendons. This is where strength training is required to equally balance muscle strength and flexibility to mitigate those risks. Case in point squats are an area that I’m working on now to rebuild atrophied muscle due to years of overworking my hips. While a simple sit to stand might be easy for some, for me to do this without a significant chest lean forward, is a challenge. Flexibility should be respected and not overused. #humanpretzels #hypermobility #muscle #strengthtraining #flexibility
