Heyyy welcome!

New to the blog I see! Unfortunately most of the content I do here is anthro only. I used to do some feral stuff in the past if you wanna go digging, but I stopped after things got too weird in my DMs (aka requests of feral, genuinely as animal as possible swamp dregs interacting with humanoids in ways I really don’t agree with).

I might do feral swamp dreg content, but IF I do, it would be in the same vein as the w/rri/r cats style, where it’s mainly interaction between other ferals where they talk and communicate. If you have specific asks around that vein, I might whip up something!!

Tldr: Feral Swamp Dregs from this point forward will not be sneezing in the context of humanoids, but will interact with other feral swamp dregs!

17. OLDEST AND YOUNGEST OCS:

Oldest: Probably Larry. Or DreamWeaver. They’re both the indeterminably ancient type (tho Larry hides it better, but he’s still a snotty know-it-all). Ikar is up there too age-wise.

Youngest: Joseph, becuz he’s the token hoomin character. As far as physical age goes, probably Ian? Naga boi is a baby adult.

18. DO YOU DISLIKE ANY OF YOUR OCS:

Not really? Some of them are majorly fucked up assholes and deserve bad things (which can be fun in and of itself), but they also help me channel things and ideas. And give the other characters conflict. I might not loooove them, but I don’t dislike them either.

I dunno, at worst I’d see a character as a tool. And if I disliked the tool, I’d just use a different tool?

19. HAVE YOU EVER MADE A SELF-INSERT?

20. AN OC REGRET:

I’m actually not sure what that means? Like a character I regret making? A character trait I regret? Something the character regrets?

Idk I do revise/revamp characters all the time cuz sometimes I just don’t like certain things about them anymore. I regret some of the lolrandom traits I gave Jake towards the beginning. I have...lots of regrets from my edgy character era.

And I regret that somewhere in the depths of an ancient laptop there is kink art with that design and I must live with the knowledge that it EXISTS. SOMEWHERE.

I make my dergs very human-like and human-proportioned. Start with a circular base. I follow a simple cross (+) guideline to help me determine where the eyes and mouth go. I follow it very loosely but my rules are: eyes sit on the horizontal line and the mouth goes about halfway between the eyes and chin (I fudge this sometimes depending on the character’s mouth shape).

Tips:

- Avoid making mouths too wide and flat otherwise you get the frog look. I make mine rather humanoid but more feral looking mouths (like the middle mouth) curve upward to give the face false depth in the illusion of a snout.

- Eyes are pretty self explanatory but generally avoid making them too far apart or too close. I usually make em human like but their shape depends on the char’s personality like big, round eyes for more cutesy faces.

- Cheeks and chins are very important to define the face. Play with angles and the length of these features to create the illusion of a jawline or snout. 

Here’s a few of my dergs for example. Note the position of their mouths and eyes along with the shape of their cheeks and chins. Now horns and stuff are a whole tutorial on themselves due to perspective but I just keep em to simple shapes. 

You can see that many of these share similar features but changing parts of the face like nostrils, nose types, eye shape, etc can really make a difference in who the dragon is.

Sorano Refsheet, 2020 edition~

A little derg of mine I’ve had since I was in high school, and haven’t been able to give a good refsheet to since 2011. ;3; But that’s changed now! She’s Sorano, a dragon about the size of a large Norwegian Forest cat, who uses telepathy to communicate and who may change form into a human if she needs to be among humanoids. She just kinda hangs out in Sel with all the other sword’n’sorcery fantasy OCs and species.

Worldbuilding June 2020 Episode 3

3. Who lives in your world?

The diversity of sapient species living on Klidi is astounding. They come in all shapes and sizes, forms and functions, some very familiar and others very not. It gives me great sadness to do so, but I had to narrow down which I covered here.

(No really. I uh, have written down a lot of sapient species/race/whatever notes for this world, so for this entry not to be an utter nightmare for me to write down without copy pasting old notes, I had to be picky. They have been divided into "familiar" (basic shit pretty much every fantasy setting has only here because I like them) and "unfamiliar" (stuff I got a little more creative with). Also there is no "alignment", especially fixed alignment. Any of these fuckers can be just as good or evil as any other, privilege aside. Anyhoo...)

(The Familiar:)

(Humans)

Ah yes, the classic, the hardy, humanity. There is not much different to them that is not seen in other timelines, but they are the most populous of what the world calls "hnau" or "people." They are no better or worse than things than the others and are highly reliable. 

(Ah yes, hyoo mans. I do not need to go into them much for there was a human inside you all along.)

(Molivites) 

These sturdy burrowers have been seen in other worlds under different names. They do not dig out of greed, but out of hunger for minerals. Their food causes their hair and bones to be metallic, and gems to sprout from their skin. They like to be left alone, but their culture prioritizes the masculine. 

(It should be obvious these are dorfs by a different name. The only reason they aren't called dorfs here is because it makes no-in-universe sense for these particular  dorfs to define themselves by their height compared to hyoomans.)

(Elves)

These pointy eared people intertwine flesh with crystals and plants. Crystal leafy branches and lichen grow from them, enhancing both their lifespan and magical ability. While stereotyped as living in forests, they will live anywhere without too harsh of winters. (one of my goals with these fucks was to make them just... people. Not snootily arrogant or snootily arrogant AND EVIL or eternally screwed over for their misdeeds but just... people. And also weird crystal plant hybrids because that shit is my jam.)

(Vampires)

Monochrome-skinned people who feed on blood. Most feed on animal blood, but some more privileged aristocratic societies have cabals based on eating the blood of peoplekind. Sunlight is not inherently lethal but is extremely painful to be directly exposed to so most live in caves or deep dark forests where the sun doesn't reach the ground. 

(Fun fact vampires here are an outright species, not an infection of other species, intended to fill the same niche "dark elves" do in other settings. Also yes the nobles are the ones who are the actual maneaters for obvious reasons.)

(Fire Dragons)

There are multiple types of dragon on Klidi, but one of the most familiar is the Fire Dragon. Archosaurs with four legs, two wings, sets of three cheek spikes, and horns. Named for their ability to breathe fire and strong control of fire magic. They are painted by bigots as dangerous monsters, and so most fire dragons hide away.

(The Unfamiliar:)

(Gorgomen)

Strange beings that resemble prehistoric mammal-like creatures and are the result of an incident with the time-space continuum on Klidi. They subsist largely by hunting, but are dedicated farmers as well, and stereotypes about them being a warrior race are grossly incorrect. Just don't call them lizards.

(Do you know what gorgonopsids are? They're my favorite obscure prehistoric creature! So fuck it I'm putting gorgonopsid people in my fantasy setting.)

(Barb Cats)

These cat-like humanoids resemble snow leopards in all but their tails, which are barbed and scorpion-like in "males" (known as manticores) and sleek and snakelike in "females" (known as sphinxes). This sexual dimorphism has been heavily influential on ideals of gender in their society, mostly for the worse.

(I am not sure what convinced me to merge sphinxes and manticores into one, sapient species except that possibly I'm a furry.)

(Dragon Whales)

One of the other sapient dragon species in Klidi. Massive marine reptiles, they live underwater, communicate with others by telepathy, and manipulate objects with telekinesis. They mostly interact with other water-dwelling sapient species, but are not opposed to communication with those on the surface.

(Satyrs)

Humanoid goats, frequently short, with dexterous front hooves for grasping things. They eat pretty much anything and get along pretty much everywhere.

(the decision to overhaul satyrs/fauns into full-on goat people also has no explanation other than possibly the fact i'm a furry. Similarly to vampires they're intended to fill the role hobbits/haflings/kender/etc fill in other fantasy settings)

(Pixies)

Superficially, pretty, sparkly, glamorous fey, they are in fact dragonfly-like humanoids with advanced illusion powers. They create an air of "fair folk" to drive others away, so they can live in peace.

(I wanted to have evil eldritch fair folk types without them being actually that evil, so there you go)

(Other:) (Luminoria and Umbratics)

Two groups of beings, one of light, one of darkness, that are subspecies of one known as the Celestials. They start life in a larval stage that metamorphosizes into a shapeshifting adult state that cannot die, just be reduced to a "core." They live in their own parallel dimensions to Klidi, but often visit there and influence its history, for good and for ill.

(Basically the substitute for angels and demons. Also yes my username is derived partly from the Umbratics.)

OOOO OKAY.  EXCITED YOU GUYS WANNA HEAR :D

Anyways!! Meet Flea! She is my werewolf druid :D (Flea’s not her real name btw, her friend gave her that name)

Since my bf is our DM, he let me use her as a werewolf with some modifications, mainly she’s not so resistant to....well, everything.  Shit still hurts.  She’s what is known as a Moon-touched werewolf, so she’s born into lycanthropy.  They can have humanoid forms and stuff but mainly they stay like big woofs :D Moon-cursed are the usual werewolves people know about and the freakin indestructible ones lol

Session 0 was mainly a roleplay chat in Discord, Flea tried to pass herself as a longtooth shifter but clearly failed due to some bad rolls.  She was travelling with my friend’s dragonborn, Vasira, before they met up with my bf’s PC, Viktor the Kobold, and @askscribbly​‘s goblin, Popper.  Viktor’s kind of like... a party member NPC that does more lol.  We just wanted my bf to join the fun ok and Viktor is a delight.  

Viktor mentions a problem in the nearby town of Blackwood with him looking into another incident dealing with a wife’s husband missing, who turns up dead on the road with a note in his pocket from the brother in Blackwood.  The four decide to group up and see the problem through since why not, they’re all going there anyways.

Session 1 starts off with them entering Blackwood, the four directly heading to the tavern.  Flea’s allowed to have a normal wolf form that doesn’t count as Wildshape, so she’s in that because... well, a normal wolf is less terrifying than a fricken werewolf and everyone else in the party minus Vasira are kind of races that get kicked around.  They enter the tavern: Popper instantly looks around and sees a hooded figure at a table doing card tricks, so he’s gonna go look over there, Vasira went to the bar to speak to the tavern owner, Fritz.  

And Flea? For technically the first rolled action she does in the live campaign?

She goes and begs for table scraps.  Had to roll for performance, which she has no bonus modifier in.

AND SHE GOT A 19.  SHE GOT THAT TABLE SCRAPS AND IS THE BEST DAMN WOLF EVER.  GODDAMN HILARIOUS.  These people are fucking enamoured with Flea in her wolf form.  

Viktor comes over and apologizes for ‘his dog’ and gets some info on how there’s no animals nearby.  Vasira learns about dead bodies missing and Popper... well, Popper made a friend. Vasira rents two rooms for the night and it was decided it would be Viktor and Vasira in one room and Flea and Popper in the other.  Flea has the cantrip to speak to animals, so she begins to perform that ritual so she can speak to Popper’s mount, a mastiff named Cecilia.

Was kind of a weird...philosophical session with the dog.  Flea doesn’t really know if she gained anything out of it, but she opened up to the dog because no one else can speak to the dog but Cecilia mentioned to keep what she said a secret haha.  Whew.  Definitely helped Flea feel less strict around Popper, but she was still on edge. Vasira and Viktor are having a helluva powerful talk downstairs and Popper was invited to the cloaked figure’s room.  TBH, ask @askscribbly​ about Popper and his adventures, I’m sure they’d love to expand LOL.  

BUT SUDDENLY.  SOMETHING CRASHES IN AND GRABS A HALF-LING.  EVERYONE (minus Flea) HEARS THIS, INCLUDING THE DOG, SO FLEA’S ALERTED AND THEY GIVE CHASE.

Turns out to be a fucking scarecrow.  A SCARECROW.  AND THUS OUR FIRST BATTLE BEGINSSSS.

Vasira rages, Viktor attacks and has pack tactics, Flea tries primal savagery but nothin’ happening.  Physical attacks doing shit.  Flea almost gets knocked unconscious but survives with 1 HP, she’s pissed at this thing now. AND POPPER, DEAR LOVELY POPPER, HEALS HER.  AND SHE.  RIPS THAT FUCKING THING.  TO SHREDS.  LIKE A CHEW TOY.  And thus Flea got the first kill of the night.

There ends up being a letter tucked away and while Flea can read the script of the name signed at the end, Vasira can actually read Elvish, so they figure out it’s Popper’s friend, who’s name is Saelithia.  They approach her with questions and got confirmation it was written by her, so we went to her friend’s house who was named in the letter.  Popper found a journal nearly ellibile minus four entries and how a strange discus object was connected to Tom (the friend).

Next they headed to the tree where Tom was hung, Flea was able to use detect magic to see a conjuration chain and undead chain across the hole of the tree.  She stuck her paw in and it fucking hurt.  Viktor and Popper hit them too and it hurt as well.  Nobody learns a lesson and Vasira severely disappointed derg-mom.

They go back to Saelithia with the journal and she returns with them to the tree, but kind of stuck so they went to go check out the two other problems: missing bodies and missing wildlife.

They head to the cemetery, fucking undead attack and Vasira destroys them with firebreath.  Vasira finds a monastery in the graveyard and we find this gross and awful mass of flesh and shit causing the undead shit.  Popper gets knocked out but Flea returns the favor and heals the dude. Viktor kills it because he’s bad ass and I love him.

Afterwards they go to look what’s causing the wildlife to go missing, which turns out to be a Maw Demon.  OOF. Viktor and Vasira are doing close-range, while Popper and Flea stay back and do long range. Popper gets the final blow with sacred flame.  Our heroes are worn out and go back to the tree, finding the chains broken and the hole open.

...But before anyone could say they should rest, Flea charges in (probably high on the excitement) with Viktor chasing after her.  Vasira and Popper just kind of... stare off in disbelief  Vasira’s owner even drew it lol.

And that’s where session 1 ended :D We got our next session next week and I’M PUMPED AHHH.

8 Character Creators for Writers/OCs

One of my favourite ways of wasting time while getting to call it “worldbuilding” is spending hours toying with online character creators and making my OCs with them.

Jokes aside, it’s a good way to figure out what they look like, especially if you’re not an artist (and even if you are it can help you with creating an initial outline of their appearance. It’s a lot easier to pick the hairstyle that looks “right” than to draw it yourself sometimes).

So here’s a few of my favourites. These are all free and online unless otherwise stated.

(Fair warning, most of these are either cutesy, cartoony, or anime-styled because that’s what I like.)

Picrew - User-submitted, usually anime character makers of wildly varying style and quality. The whole site is in Japanese, but you can navigate fine if you translate it. There’s animal, male, and all other kinds of makers too.

Rinmaru Games - Various anime-styled character makers that suit both modern and fantasy human OCs.

Video Game Avatar Creator & Ascension Couple Creator - Fullbody, male and female (male in Ascension only), fantasy creators with a range of colours and options for clothes, hair, etc. In Ascension you can make humans, moon elves, and have two at the same time.

Mega Anime Avatar Creator - As it says on the tin, anime bust suitable for male, female, and androgynous characters. There’s a lot of stuff here.

Mega Fantasy Avatar Creator - MAAC but with more fantasy-based options and a less 2D cartoony style.

I’ve also found the newer Manga Creators helpful.

Missangest Games - Fantasy-based, fullbody, usually female characters like mermaids, knights, angels, etc. in cartoon/anime-like style. These have more original concepts suited for humanoid fantasy/RPG characters.

DollDivine and Azalea’s Dolls - Generally female, modern and fantasy makers, some animals too. Both of these are just pretty good resources for high-quality character makers from across the web, though some are hit or miss. Make sure you look at the “exclusive” games that are made by the site creators.

X-Girl - Pretty in-depth maker for mutants, fantasy and sci-fi, girls with magical powers, etc.

Dragon Maker - For your Western-styled dergs. You’re stuck with the one body type and pose, but this is good if you need a canvas for figuring out your dragon’s horns, frills, coloring, etc.

Azalea Scene Makers - Various fantasy races, multiple characters and customization options.

Candybar Dolls (Boys version) - Cutesy pixel art “dolls” with hundreds of different pieces. The UI is kind of difficult to navigate, and the clothes are mostly suited to modern humans, but there’s a lot of options. There are other versions of this game here.

Gaia Online Avi Builder (Requires Sign-Up) - Cutesy, chibi-style pixel art for male, female, and some animal characters. There are thousands of items, but they’re organized atrociously. If you have the patience to deal with the slowness and total chaos you could make pretty much anything. Use the search bar to find items based on keywords.

Hero Forge - Fantasy/D&D characters, multiple races. Create your character as a Dungeons and Dragons mini. Lots of poses, objects, clothing and options. However it’s all entirely greyscale; you’ll need to use GIMP or something to colour these yourself.

Black Desert Online ($10 on Steam) - 3D character maker, male and female warriors, fantasy. If you’d love to spend 5 hours screwing with your characters’ exact facial shapes, this might be worth the money even if you don’t want to play the game. You can also pose them once you’re done.

The downside is the lack of hairstyles and outfits. Plus you’re essentially locked to the body type/general appearance of the class you pick (and all the female classes are pretty much “cutesy anime girl”, so not a lot of variety there).

Also, the game is fairly intensive, and like 30+GB big. So you have to have a good computer and some space, just for a character creator with an MMO attached to it.

Other paid/downloadable character creators to check out:

EVE Online - I haven’t checked this one out yet but it looks to have a similar depth to BDO, and it’s free. And takes up less space.

SoulCalibur V and VI

A while ago I looked up pucas and found out that thy're usually depicted as black with gold eyes in all they're forms, and since then I've had a headcanon/au thing where if the cast of GX were mythical creatures, Judai would be a puca (even though they're irish) bc the color scheme fits perfectly! (the other option is a derg, obviously)

Yes! That’s supposed to be the one way you can tell a Puca regardless of form, be it dog, goat, horse/pony, rabbit or tiny humanoid(the main forms they apparently can shift into), they’re always black furred with gold eyes!

But ooooh, yeah Puca!Judai would neat.

Worldbuilding June 2020 Episode 9

9. What religion and cosmology exists in your world?

The people of Klidi worship various gods as protectors, guides, and helpers. While these gods often resemble one particular species or another, the religions that sprout around them often are practiced by multiple species, and the gods are capable of altering their appearance beyond their preferred forms anyway. As with the species themselves I was sadly forced to narrow down. (OH BOY TIME TO TALK ABOUT THE DEITIES MY FAVORITE)

(The Overgod)

I've mentioned this one before. The progenitor deity of Klidi itself and beyond. Aside from her origin myth, little is known about her, not even to the other gods, but she is said to resemble a cosmic grey whale.

(We talked plenty about this fellow on Day 4.)

(Efilla)

The goddess of life, nature, and acceptance, and patron guardian of Klidi itself, who can be as ruthless as nature itself but decrees all people should treat each other with tolerance and respect and to punish those who do not. Takes the form of a woman with dark hair, green eyes, and green clothes.

(Basically the second-in-command to the Overgod.)

(Celosia)

Goddess of the moon, peace, and calm. Her followers, relatedly, tend to be some variety of pacifist. Takes the form of an anthropomorphic luna moth.

(Do you like moth girls? I like moth girls.)

(Ellegia)

The goddess of death, decay, and finality. She appears in the visions and dreams of many, usually foretelling doom, but she is not antagonistic. Takes the form of a woman of indeterminate species in a dark dress, wielding a bloody sword.

(I also like more feminine grim reaper types.)

(Niata)

The goddess of magic, mystery, and forests. She is enigmatic and odd and those species influenced by her in particular are known as the fey. Resembles a woman in mage robes who is a hybrid of multiple species. 

(There'll be more on her in Day 16.)

(Norgun)

Nonbinary deity of justice, restraint, and patience. Believes that if conflict is to happen it must be to fix injustice in the world. Resembles a green-skinned humanoid with long hair, strange wings, and what can be best described as a "battle dress". (A bit of a note. I didn't mention it in Day 3 because I was trying to narrow the scope a bit, but there are orcs in this setting, and they tend to gravitate to Norgun a lot, even though they're hardly the only ones who worship Norgun or Norgun is hardly the only deity worshipped by orcs. They're meant to run counter to conventions of what an "orc deity" would be like.)

(Nyxian)

Nonbinary deity of darkness, confidence, and passion. Their followers are more pleasant than you'd think. Resembles an enby vampire in, dare I say, edgy clothing. In a romantic relationship with Solah - their religions get along.

(MORE UMBRA SELF-INDULGENCE)

(Repscal) God of pride, power, and valor. Often invoked by warriors going into battle. Resembles a hybrid of all the dragon species.

Goddess of the sun, happiness, and positivity. Said to be cheery and bubbly... unless you get her mad. Resembles a white-haired woman with various sun motifs on her clothing.

Not much is known about this strange eldritch deity, its cults are scattered and enigmatic. Some say it is as old as the Overgod, and while Niata controls magic on Klidi this terrifying being is the source. Is it truly a threat to the entire universe, or is the truth more complicated than that?
