For my thirtieth birthday I gifted myself a “Dragon Age” game, as everyone assured me that I would like it. I made a very nice short dwarf lady who looks like me, and gave it A Good Try for about ten minutes. I am not good at video games, and am obstinate and contrarian. My reactions are presented for amusement.

at the moment I hate and reject everybody in this hellscape, AND their floating, nebulous, uncontrolled teeth. there is a dreadful tall lady with dead eyes full of hate, who would normally be Exactly My Type ™, except her facial muscles are all controlled by separate demons from a pocket dimension communicating over a very slow connection, and I feel like I can’t relate to that at all. I told her to fuck off, and she thought this made us best friends.

She will NOT go away, and introduced me to her OTHER friends, which is the EXACT opposite of what I wanted. her friends are the two extremes of male English major: the one who stretches out his stupid long legs and leans back smirkingly, and the one who goes “heh” when the text says “breast,” this is the worst party ever and I want to go home?

I pretended I agreed with everything they said (I wasn’t really listening tbh) and they all walked away to do their thing, and I thought GREAT, and ran in the other direction, but then the lady followed me! WHAT DO THEY WANT FROM ME. WHY ARE THEIR TEETH SO FULL OF VOIDS. I DON’T WANT TO JOIN THEIR STUDY GROUP. I can picture the outcome: the angry lady and I would be carrying the ENTIRE weight of the group project, while Smirks McGee and Truck Bruntforce profoundly fail to understand the point of Moby Dick. (“Heh.”)

there are no dragons yet. there is no evidence of an inquisition, but I believe they turn up when least expected. I feel like these people are going to tell me about their personal problems without the SLIGHTEST provocation.

Conclusion so far: 4/10, combat easier than I expected, enjoyed the character creator, did not expect to be graded on participation
