March
2024  03  22
Well, I got another chapter written on daughter today. I think I’m thinking of revising what I had planned for the next chapter. Not sure I want to really get into the kidnapping Cayenne and that kind of stuff. I had to shift the focus to Laughing Mountain so we could take care of the agents for the for the Silent Insurgent this was a little difficult but I do need some action for back on Shangri-La. At the moment I don’t have a clue what I’m gonna do though. I did have the squabble between the Malcolm and Grace, which kind of moves that relationship along. That’s going to be a real slow burn anyway. If I do anything else with it it’ll be in the 3rd book and I’m not sure what I’m gonna be doing for that one. Oh well.
2024 03 14
Downloading the payroll stuff was surprisingly easy. Now all I have to do is send it off to the web site.
Since I have some extra time to work on Daughter of  Shadows. I'm getting down to the end. I've got four more chapters lined up but all of those are the ones did that make or break the ending.
Once that is done, the editing starts and that can be a bear. I set the release date for May 31st. I could have made it earlier, but I wanted to give myself plenty of time to do any rewrites that need to be done.
I sold 2 books at The Clovis Art Guild meeting last night. I just took them with me because I knew that two of the ladies who buy my books would be there. Cradle  of Fire still had the old cover, so I gave the gal who bought it a break on the price. The Arcadian Web  I sold for $15; Amazon has it as $15.99 but I didn't want to deal with pennies thank you very much.

I did get another two chapters of Daughter done this weekend. I still need a humdinger ending though, and I don’t want it to come off like a superhero fight. I want to tie the conflict between the Silent Insurgence and the World Preservation League into another book for the Bedingfeld family on Arcadia, maybe  St. Antoni and Halcyon, so whatever plot line I come up with can’t close off those plot lines…
Sorry this blog isn’t really about my books—sometimes life interferes with writing. Sorry about this, but you’ll need to excuse the rant—I’m feeling very frustrated. I just spent the last two days trying to help my son get his health insurance straightened out, and I’m still not done! He qualified for Covered California this year, but unfortunately, they show him as enrolled in Medi-Cal and he has to get removed from there to be signed up with Covered California. Aside from the issue of Social Services outside lines not working (they finally admitted that when we went down there in person), they don’t give out their website (we had to get that from them in person too!), and to top things off, they won’t take his 2023 W-2 as proof he’s not self-employed! They want 52 paycheck stubs! So guess what I’ll be doing tomorrow! Then I was told it might take two weeks to process the paperwork! AARGH!

I think this is as reasonable a reason as anything else. The Kaminoans, likely Nala Se, just wanted to try it out. In a mammal, one can simply prevent the relevant genes on the Y chromosome from expressing, and a female body will be formed. All you need for a viable human embryo is just an X chromosome. The Y chromosome in humans is getting smaller over time, and in some rodents there is no longer a Y chromosome at all (they have males, but they have two X chromosomes).
My best guess with Emerie is that they tried to see if she could be made, and since she wasn't intended to be a soldier, Nala Se had a medical curriculum downloaded into Emerie's brain, called her MR-1 or something like that, and intended to keep her as an assistant.
The only real question to me is why they sent her away, rather than keep Emerie on staff at Kamino. My best guess is Lama Su decided to sell her to buyers over Nala Se's head (Nala Se did not own her clones and could not have refused).
Omega is a tougher question because we have to ask if Nala Se knew about her ability to retain M-counts because she set out to make her that way (for a buyer?), or if it was just some fun accident. But again, it means Nala Se would have had to put midichlorians in Omega for reasons.
I think it's possible that Nala Se realized that Emerie could retain someone else's M count for a limited time. That may have suggested to Nala Se that female humanclones can potentially retain M counts. In our own real world, we get our mitochrondria from our mothers, and midichlorians are based on those. With the Chiss, only girls are FS. Maybe the Chiss simply lose midichorians over time, and boys have as little midichlorians as male human clones.
But maybe the acceleration process ruins it. So she tested on an unaccelerated clone, and found what she was looking for. But as Omega's existence is a threat to the galaxy (for those looking to make armies of FS clones), she decided to keep quiet about it, to Lama Su, and everyone else. Given Jango Fett's perpetual habit of staying in a dangerous profession, she could have told Lama Su that Omega was a good source of fresh Jango Fett DNA, and worth keeping for that reason.
So the Bad Bachelors show never answered why Omega and Emerie are girls, what the purpose behind creating female clones would be, so I used Occam's Razor to put my headcanon out there in You Look Just Like Him. This is an exchange between Doctor Emerie Karr and Senator Riyo Chuchi.
During the flight to Imperial Center the Senator, Emerie, and the rest of her staff gathered to discuss opportunities and possible pitfalls for the next legislative session. It was a while before the group disbanded. And a bit after that before she could get some time alone with her.
“Emerie, how are you holding up?”
“I am doing alright, I guess.”
“Your new identity will hold up at immigration, don’t you worry about that. I won’t let anyone take you away.”
Emerie smiled and nodded in response.
Riyo looked contemplative for a moment as if assembling her thoughts, or working up to committing to something.
“Emerie, I’ve been curious about something, but was worried it would be rude to ask.”
  “Please ask away, Senator.”
“Why did the Kaminoans create female clones?”
Emerie stuck out her bottom lip, thinking it over. “It never occurred to me to ask, and Nala Se never volunteered why. But I can surmise for you if you wish.”
“I wish.” She put her hand on Emerie’s arm and she momentarily lost concentration.
“Knowing her, it was probably just curiosity. To see if she could.”
“Omega told me she was an exact clone of Jango Fett. How is that possible?”
“Well, Riyo. All humans are female at early stages in embryonic development. It was a simple matter to shut off some genes and turn on others relating to gonad and hormonal development. Nala Se probably thought of it as an intriguing challenge, as our XY chromosomes may lack what was considered to be essential information for the female genotype. She may have found work-arounds in our junk DNA to make up the difference.”
Riyo frowned. “So it was a purely intellectual exercise?”
“I do not know why she made her decisions. But likely, yes. The Kaminoans considered genetic experimentation akin to an artform. They cloned themselves as well, to the extent that they no longer reproduce sexually.”
“And why don’t you have more sisters?”
“I probably had dozens of older sisters who were not viable. You don’t get something like that correct on the first try.”
“Oh,” She swallowed. “Thank you for indulging me.”
She had no more questions. But she took the seat next to her and read off her datapad. Emerie could not help but look over and admire her frequently during the remainder of the flight.

Constance is a great sci-fi novel from Matthew Fitzsimmons. "Con is headed to her refresh. She's one of the few non-billionionaires to have a clone. Her's was gifted by her aunt, who invented human cloning. She lies down for her refresh...and wakes up 18 months later. What happened to her original? What happened during the last year-and-a-half? Is she still Con? Is the music still there? Where will she find answers?" Fitzsimmons takes us on a nice journey as Constance searches for the truth. There are some interesting comments about whether clones are real people or not. This had a little bit of an Altered Carbon vibe. Similar plot device but different story and characters. Fitzsimmons gives us a character to pull for - you want Constance to find the truth and you want her to have a full, rewarding life. The ending may not be what you expect but Fitzsimmons makes it work. Thank you @westworlds999 very compelling. *opens up YouTube #rabbithole of #clones #humancloning and #actorbasedreality* The main reason I bring it up is I have had actual floaters bring me this theory but it sounded too ridiculous to give it much time...never looked it up until google became uncensored and WOAH. Any clones out there????? https://www.instagram.com/p/B-U2YD7DWWJ/?igshid=7gx780mkvc92

Is cloning humans ethical?
According to a 2016 Gallup Poll, over 80% of respondents said cloning a human is “not morally acceptable.”
Do you agree? Interesting debate at @4bnewsworld
