human design : energy types

the most fundamental aspect of human design is the classification into five energy types, each with a unique strategy and aura. these types help individuals understand how they best interact with others and the world.

★ manifestors: have an initiating energy and are here to make things happen. they have a closed and repelling aura, designed to create space for action and independence. their strategy is to inform before they act, which helps them avoid resistance from others.

aura type: closed and repelling purpose: create impact and initiate action manifestors have a powerful, dense aura that is closed off to others. unlike other auras, which are open and interactive, the manifestor aura is designed to push energy away. this repelling quality allows manifestors to carve their own path without interference, giving them the freedom and independence needed to initiate and act according to their own impulses. their aura creates space around them, keeping others at a distance unless they are invited in. this helps manifestors protect their autonomy and ensures that their initiating energy remains clear and uninterrupted. interaction with others: because their aura is closed, manifestors may feel misunderstood or alienated, as others can struggle to read their energy or know their intentions. this is why manifestors are encouraged to inform others of their actions before they take them. informing helps reduce resistance and eases the tension their aura can naturally create. when manifestors inform, they allow others to align with their energy, creating harmony and cooperation instead of conflict.

aura type: open and enveloping, with manifesting capabilities purpose: sustain energy, multitask, and quickly respond to life as a hybrid of the generator and manifestor, manifesting generators have an aura that is primarily open and enveloping like a generator’s but also carries a manifesting component. this dual nature allows them to attract opportunities and respond to life while also acting quickly and efficiently. their aura can shift gears rapidly, enabling them to move between tasks and activities seamlessly. manifesting generators are designed for speed and adaptability, and their aura reflects this by holding an energy that feels dynamic and multifaceted. interaction with others: manifesting generators, like generators, are approachable and engaging due to their open aura, making others feel included in their energy. however, their need for speed and multitasking can sometimes make others feel left behind if they don’t move as quickly. this is why manifesting generators benefit from their strategy of responding first and then informing—allowing others to keep up with their rapid pace. when they are aligned and using their energy properly, their aura is vibrant and inspiring. when misaligned, it can create a sense of frustration or impatience as they struggle with the pressure to move forward before the timing is right.

★ projectors: designed to guide others, projectors have a focused and absorbing aura that penetrates into other people's energy. they are here to manage and direct energy, not to work sustainably like generators. their strategy is to wait for the invitation, which aligns them with the right environments and people.

aura type: sampling and resistant purpose: reflect and mirror the environment reflectors have a unique aura that is sampling and highly sensitive, designed to take in and reflect the energies around them. their aura is open but not in the same way as a generator’s; instead of enveloping, it samples small bits of information and energy from various sources without taking in everything. this allows reflectors to remain somewhat detached, preventing them from becoming overly influenced by their environment. their aura acts as a mirror, reflecting the health and alignment of the community or environment they are in, making them natural barometers of collective well-being. interaction with others: due to their sampling aura, reflectors are highly sensitive to the people and environments they are in, and they can deeply understand and mirror what is happening around them. their strategy of waiting a lunar cycle helps them move through various energies and experiences, giving them clarity about what is consistent and true for them. when they are in the right environment, their aura reflects joy and clarity, bringing harmony to those around them. if they are in the wrong environment, their aura can mirror disappointment and disharmony, making it essential for them to choose their surroundings and communities carefully.

I Am So Deserving Of A Soft Space

I am so deserving of a soft space. I give myself permission to raise my standards when it comes to the people I allow into my life, that I allow to interact with me. I am deserving of feeling seen, of having people that are soft, gentle and kind with me. I am deserving of having people that are curious about me.

I am deserving of having people in my life that are curious, lovingly curious about me...who want to show up for me in ways that are gentle and soft and kind and understanding. People who are not going to gaslight me, bully me or make me feel like my experience is without value. I deserve to be in a space where I don't have to run through a scenario 5,000 times before expressing it, for fear of being shut down.

I deserve grace. I deserve grace. I deserve grace.

My Story

In December 2017, I was on a call with one of my teachers from the group Trillium Awakening. They asked me for my birthday, time and place of birth, and sent me my Human Design body graph. They talked about how I was a projector, and they were too, how it was a rare type, and that I had a lot of open centers, meaning, I was really open to conditioning from the outside world.

They suggested I check it out and some of its free resources. A small tool too accelerate my spiritual process. Which, by the way, could take up to 7 years.

I *WAS* A 20?Something ON A SPIRITUAL QUEST: 

THE VICTIM STORY

Yikes! This is cool, but heck if I had the time or money for more of that!

I hardly had enough money to pay for our weekly group calls in a women’s circle - that put a price beyond compare - but stretched me, even at the discounted rate they offered.

No one in my family had put money into spiritual or personal development work, while I was knee-deep in the stuff. To be honest, I didn’t really feel like I had a choice.

Doing work on spiritual development was a choice between “This stuff is so expensive. If I do this I won’t have any money and I will die” and “This stuff is absolutely what I need at this point in my life and that the world needs to evolve so if I don’t do this…I will also die.”

So? It was, as one of my teacher’s Marc Gafni would call, an erotic double-bind.

I made the choice to go knee-deep in work towards spiritual evolution.

I left the teaching world and I worked in the “gig economy.”

My resume had 5 different education companies.

I worked between 1-40 hours a week, and spent half of it driving.

For months at a time I did what I loved - working with kids - and had no “boss” to call me to the office.

Sounds good, right?

Finally free from educational institutions, I saw how life really worked in people’s homes. I saw the truth of District public and charter schools, and, no matter where I went, I taught kids in the way that felt good to me.

Of course, not everything ended well, and some parents and classroom teachers asked me to *get out* on the first day! But…the recognition of my abilities as a teacher *direct* and *instantaneous.* The progress of the children showed in their creativity.

Let’s get real though about this so-called “gig economy” that promised millennials freedom. No boss meant no W-2. No health insurance. No retirement plan. No coffee breaks. No co-workers.

The road was lonely.

Between driving to tutor or babysit kids at their home, substitute teach at a random school in Maryland, or attend a retreat in New Jersey, I started to feel less like a teacher and more like a truck driver. I took up bad habits that I never imagined as a yogi. I ate protein bars with more sugar than a Snickers and smoked the more the occasional American Spirit that even listening to Adi Da podcasts could not save me from.

I felt sad - but who else could see me but myself?

Some of my friends from my “previous life” no longer spoke to me. I felt ashamed I had left the active lifestyle I once had of biking, walking and yoga, but I knew I could not afford it. I paid for retreats by offering to cook batch meals for the sangha.

I lived in a basement apartment in a house owned by an electronic musician that hosted bands from all over the country. My next door neighbor was an indie musician as well with a great wardrobe and occasional clothing swaps with her New Zealand friends. My closest friend made her own jewelry and tye-die. Two blocks away from the thrift store! So… Major perk - getting to listen to and play music on the reg. and get free, cute clothes. Major downside - working all the time with hardly enough cash to pay the rent to show for my good deeds, and sometimes looking “woke up like this” and other time looking like I hadn’t changed out of my pajamas.

OKAY…SO WHAT IS THIS HUMAN DESIGN STUFF AND HOW DID YOU LEARN IT

Okay, cool. So back to the start of the story. My teacher gave me a tool and I don’t think I looked at it for two years.

But then …. the covid, the lockdowns, the confinement , and suddenly we all had no where to go, everywhere to be (on Zoom) and time, too much of it.

How was I ever going to ‘be’ someBODY?

I won’t go into the depth of “the lockdown” story because at this point, we all have one.

But lockdown story did not produce the kind of “free time” that one might really hope for, unless, of course, you enjoy “free time” like a character from a Albert Camus novel.

Coincidantalment**, I spent the entire time of “confinement” in two foreign

No exit. Like - am I ever going to get out of this? Am I ever going to escape this like square box my form is trapped inside of, speaking to people in a language no one understands?

Okay. I am going to revisit this Human Design stuff. I am going to learn a language that describes the programming of the human body.

No, this isn’t some weird genetic altering stuff. Au, the contrarie!

A system of empowerment that came along at the right time.

When we are, as David A Temple puts it posed between utopia and dystopia. We are getting the call to know ourselves - NOW - in a progressively globalizing and demanding world. And not just globalizing in terms of “oh maybe this bag of chips I’m eating right now came from a Uyghur death camp and perhaps its made of sawdust.” Okay…maybe that too…but really…Globalizing in terms of the planet - the “PLAN-(N)ET” - has a plan to catch us and we best follow her word…or…else.

So I spent…every day of French class, every morning, looking at the transits (both astro and HD), recording my dreams, reading my graph, reading the Cross of the day, the Gate, drawing the iChing…taking a university-levelcourse on iChing…ok…maybe there was some magic involved…and many sleepless nights…and…yes…going down to the depths of the bottom of the bottom…the rabbit hole…the worm hole…the brain hole…you name it…its the the “dark night of the soul “ and there ain’t no batman to help you sidekick robin so you better be the hero of your own story and save the day.

I can tell you. I’ve been there. There’s no going back.

1- TRANSPARENT AND EASY AS F**** TO LEARN

I like Human Design because it is a very transparent system. If you’ve gotten a reading in astrology or tarot, the “method” or “magic” is usually a little hidden from the person receiving the reading. This is more “Teach yourself your Self” and a reader is more like a guide.

Like a contractor explaining the blueprint of a house from the day it was built. You might not of had the tools to build the house - but you get it. The plan is clear.

It’s not like Enneagram or Myers-Briggs where you take a quiz and find out a type, only to have it change again half-way through your life. Those tools of human development are well and good (but are subjective), and you should use those too. But that’s not what this is.

This system starts with the objective.

And then you have to test it out.

2 - the 100% USE FOR 100%…KIDS

This system, for as weird as the origin story may appear, was built by a teacher. It was built for children and the generations to come.

Anyone who has ever been a teacher (*and hopefully left the profession because they KNOW how the conditioning is happening) for kids under 7 can SEE how easily children and manipulated and cohereced into a “not-Self” program.

They are literally “programmed” to not-love themselves! The sh*t people are paying beaucoup bucks for to *fix* them later in life!

So let’s cut that s-t out before it beings. Let’s raise a generation of kids who don’t need to go to therapy when they grow up to un-do all the trauma that came from their conditioning.

And for you - “grown up” let’s help you re-parent your inner child.

(People always told me I needed to do that. I had no idea how, or the privilege, I felt, to do it.)

Let’s help you learn to “be alone” with your “Self” as you already are - whole.

3 - IS THIS A RELIgION?

Okay, let’s talk religion - if you grew up Christian (like “me” yay****) confirmed in the Christian church…yadda yadda…you probably have SOME trauma from that stuff. Don’t really care if you go to church every Sunday, are a flat-out atheist or extreme right..some body has GOT to say it…

Everything you have been brought up believe is not the meaning of the Christ.

With a little toe-dipping into esoteric Christianity…

The current image of “Jesus on the Cross” is no more than a sacrificial lamb that has you totally tricked into thinking you need to “die” (to the empire) in order to be “saved.”

No. You are a unique balance of light and dark. Although these do move in the 4 directions, they do not always look like a perfect “cross.” More on that later. 

BUT The beauty of it …is also that THERE IS a cross. And you can understand it. And you can be and become your own Christ. 

Your own Savior. And take back the power into your own life.

I don’t care if you can name me every book of gospel or if you tell me that Jesus was a historical figure or in fact never lived and is a myth in our imagination. Or if Jesus is coming back down from the heavens tomorrow so repent your sinners or oh shit maybe the world really *IS* on fire and maybe the highest court in the land (the UN) and now has “Inner Development Goals” and realizing that maybe infrastructure is not just made of things. It’s made of people. Who hurt. Who feel. Who laugh. Who cry. And is telling people that maybe they should consider working on themselves. 

In other words: It’s not just the third world world that needs supported. 

I’m not even sure if this has everything or nothing to do with a guy named Zeus with a big white beard who lives in the sky (although, I have had a couple teachers with big white beards that could compete quite fairly with Grandaddy Marx see “The Stoa” for reference)…but I do know this has everything to do with YOU and your unfolding FATE and DESTINY to live a radical life among the stars.

 Yeah…there. I said it.

My question is, are there any books about mental projectors or any further advice you can give? I recommend that you join Human Design Facebook Groups. They have a lot of free pdfs available, not to mention member posts with personal experience. There is a group specifically for mental projectors. Happy to meet a fellow 5/1 sounding board!

Your ask got cut short, but if you had serious reasons for breaking any connection off, it's for the best. It can be hard for us Projectors, because we are so focused on the Other, but the right people come back into our lives like a boomerang. If it's meant to be, it will be, although I know it can be really painful. And trust me, it is only in your own personal space that you actually find yourself, down to your core. Take it as an opportunity. Easier said then done, I know, but eventually you get there. You will attract more people than you think.

i have being doing some reading on the subject so we can talk about it here and learn together!

manifestor

motor center: ego, solar plexus, root

defined: throat

undefined: sacral

keywords: rare, impulsive, self-made, powerful, energetic, powerful, driven, frustrated, influential, self-absorbed, successful, lone-wolf, impatient, mysterious, secretive, etc.

mission: more communication, less asking for permission - tell people what you are doing. this works the other way for people dealing with manifests - don't ask them, tell them.

trends in relationships: they often can't finish what they start (they need to do things when they have a burst of energy), their mind tends to move faster than their mouth does (they tend to miscommunicate/under-communicate), they don't tend to slow down for others (they end up alone because their focus is on a task instead of a team), etc. these people don't need others for growth and often find themselves alone.

how to manage a manifestor: set boundaries and let them rein free within them. trying to quiet them causes them to become angry/tense - instead let them talk/be frustrated. you don't even really have to actively listen or comment in their rants its more so letting them have the space to express their thoughts/emotions that matters.

keywords: everyday, consistent, sustainability, sexually magnetic, high energy, masterful, self-aware, easily frustrated by life, quick to quit, slow and steady wins the race, morning bird, focused, yes or no answers, etc.

mission: pause; these people tend to jump the gun. it is very important they take a pause before doing something too rashly. it is likely to make them anxious, but it will be better they wait then do something and regret it.

trends in relationships: they are meant to be with others. they have to engage with others to grow. however, it is unlikely that they will make the first move in any of their relationships. they need signs of interest in order to try anything / make a move.

how to manage a generator: they shouldn't be told what to do. they should be coaxed to do a would you rather and pick the one that interests them most. make sure they are well rested and they will be just fine.

manifesting generator

motor center: solar plexus that connects to throat

keywords: energetic, doer, getting the job done, finds the shortcut, multitasker, self-aware, angry, easily frustrated, rushes, "make it happen", impatient, lacks follow through, quick, scattered, etc.

mission: visualize. inform. respond. inform and respond are basically the combo of the manifestor and the generator missions. visualizing is the new mission here - they have to know what it is they are chasing in order to catch it.

trends in relationships: take an adventure this these people - disappear for hours at a time to spark creativity. like a generator they are not supposed to be told what to do but rather they need would you rather questions to make headway and get things done.

how to manage a manifesting generator: these people need a lot of stimulation- they are very go-go-go energied so just let them do their thing. let them do a lot physically and mentally so they can properly deplete their energy daily. they need freedom to do what they want, so do your best to not get in their way - let them experience new things don't stress over it being the wrong move. they need to learn for themselves what is good and bad for them. try to make it their idea and not solely yours.

mission: wait to be recognized/invited. these people often feel unheard and as though they are never really acknowledged. so it is important to wait until they have full attention before sharing - what they have to say is worthwhile.

trends in relationships: they have a hard time knowing themselves and their needs though they can often see others and know them. they don't need tons of friends but rather they just need a few great ones and a partner who has time to listen to them and be present. strange as it may sound in this generation but in a relationship, they sleep best when they have their own bed.

how to manage a projector: give them recognition - ask them to share and you will be pleasantly surprised. whatever you do, don't ignore them it just leads to them getting frustrated and saying something that will cause you to listen.

mission: wait. they are lunar beings so it is important to wait 28 days to make sure that they are doing what they truly want. if they don't, then they are often very disappointed by the outcome. if they do wait, they should talk with others before acting.

trends in relationships: they need support and consistency. they are easily disappointed in relationships because one of these areas are lacking. it is equally important that they get alone time so they can shake off the energy they stored from others. they are sensual beings so touch is big for them - a hug goes a long way.

how to manage a reflector: they just need a good environment - somewhere stable and consistent (that goes for the people in that environment too). so value them and their boundaries and everything will be smooth.

Why did I always say “I’m here to support you?”

I don’t have tribal channels. Tribal channels have a keynote of support.

I do have my unconscious moon in dormant 26.5 - conditioned by the tribe trying to hook into me to manifest support! Conditioned to think if I don’t provide support I’m not worthy!

Perhaps even going more- because 26 points towards the spleen, conditioned to not-self thoughts that if I don’t provide **instinctual** , **spontaneous** support, then I’m not worthy! I will be worthy (not self will feel like it has a full conditioned ego) when I prove I can **transmit** (26-44 design of a transmitter) spontaneously support for the tribe.

Thay feels really tough, heavy, exhaustive and nerve wracking for my heavy emotional definition (39-55, 22, 36)

The other tribal I have is a hanging 54 and 19

Understanding the foundations of Astrology can improve your knowledge of Human Design; Astrology can be used to explain the workings of the world as energy itself, and while looking at the traits of the five design types, I spotted a few patterns based on the astrological signs & elements:

Manifestors are similar to Aries, Leo, & Sagittarius; Action (Aries: Movement) orientated when it's focused on their individuality (Leo: Ego), and needing their own freedom (Sagittarius: Jupiterian) to create those projects for themselves.

[Their not self themes can be avoided by balancing their nature with Air Signs; Gemini for informing, Libra for tact, since communication (Air + Throat Center) is emphasized as important, & Aquarius for detachment, because everyone won't agree with what's correct for you, you'll have to accept the loner title (Uranus: Outcast) when it's unavoidable.]

Generators are similar to Taurus, Virgo, & Capricorn; Waiting (Taurus) for the right work (Virgo) to come to them, so that they can build (Capricorn) what's actually meant for them.

[Their not self themes can be avoided by balancing their nature with Water Signs; Embracing familiarity (Cancer), because their potential career are usually revealed during their childhood (Cancer), embracing the change (Scorpio) when their lives are ready to evolve (Pluto), & surrendering (Pisces) to life to let their aura draw in the best opportunities for them.]

Manifesting Generators are a mix of Manifestors & Generators; They're similar to Fire Signs & Earth Signs.

[Their not self themes are avoided by balancing a combination of Air & Water; Recognizing their interests in their childhood (Cancer) and building (Capricorn) around it, speaking (Gemini) of their goal while exploring (Sagittarius) their available options, then acting (Aries) on them after informing the people (Libra) in their life that would be affected.]

Projectors are similar to Gemini, Libra, & Aquarius; Taking their knowledge (Gemini), and using to guide other people (Libra) as a way to benefit the collective (Aquarius).

[Their not self themes can be avoided by balancing their nature with Fire Signs; Focusing on themselves (Aries: Self) and their interests (Leo: Hobbies), until they're invited to teach (Sagittarius: Teachers) others about their methods.]

Reflectors are similar to Cancer, Scorpio, & Pisces; Receptive (Cancer) to everything to the point of being overwhelmed (Scorpio: Extremes), and they're known as the biggest mystery (Pisces: Unknown + Misunderstood) out of all design types.

Human Design | Thoughts on Gate 54, Tribal, Collective and Individual Circuity

The question of do I have kin?

Yesterday I wrote “I don't have kin” this might be offensive to my actual birth family - My Relations - and that's not what I meant at all! It's kind of paradoxical right because the more we almost leave our own tribe the more Affinity we feel for the greater whole and all people and even our own kin. We feel a deeper love for them so there's a lot I could say on this and and I'm going to try to keep it short but you know having two tribal lines has nothing to do with how I love my own family. It's more about the role I have to play in the school play of life. I think it's also not a rugged individualism that says I'm gonna go it on my own I'm gonna you know be able to survive independently because no I would die without um a tribe so I'm not talking about rugged individualism here we're talking about sacred individualism which is being able to be on your own being able to be in your own body and your own self. But also acknowledging that you do need others and to be interdependent

Gâte 54 of the Marrying Maiden , leaving one tribe for another

The gate 54 of the Marrying Maiden is about actually the maiden who leaves her tribe and joins a new tribe and then you know she's « made it in the world » So in our modern sense that's like a new job or a new relationship or a new city. In pre-modern China [because we are talking about the source of the yi Ching which is the source of the Bodygraph] this was where the bride actually is walked from her parents house to the groom's house. They have a great party for three days it's really ecstatic and she stays there she doesn't go back home. It's a mythical celebration [until she moves back] to the mundane life. She's still in a tribe, the rules haven't changed and she is essentially has the same obligations to the family. This is why the gate 54 is kind of the [gate of the] « mystical to the mundane. » We think we've made it in life we think we've had some great mystical experience we've achieved success and then we have to kind of go back to « well I'm sort of just to tell the same person in a different place, a different tribe »

The Western « enlightenment » pushed tribal into the unconscious - now it’s time to resurface those values of bonding and connection - but we must do so without the notion of the « nation state » - which disguises « the tribe » - and do so in a way that recognized the true example of where humanity is going, where we are going as a species, to evolve to new levels of inter connectedness and inter-being to create new stories of value that reflect that deep interdependency (transcends and includes.)

The other thing I want to say is that the tribal circuitry - it's and especially in the human design system - it's not about people really living in tribes actually we're talking about Western people — this is medicine really for Western people who…we don't really see tribalism in our day-to-day life [because] it's been pushed down beneath the surface and into the unconscious for the most part and is manifested in the form of nation states. [For example] we can look at Europe for example you might [in the past] have [witnessed the Celts and the Gauls but now they're the British and the French. But even within Britain and France there's many many more tribes but we don't talk about them right? We've pushed it all down below the surface. The United States another great example we have a right wing and a left wing we have two political parties that relate on tribal terms but we're not calling it that. 

So we're moving into an era of humanity where we're so interconnected and when we're looking at the level of tribalism that at some point might have really protected cultural values. For example like in France the French language — it might actually diminish value in the sense of asking you know « who are we » and « where are we going as a Humanity » as a collective not just as a tribe. The example that I want to give is in France when they were playing the World Cup match against England they kept chanting « those who do don't speak French aren't French » Well seems pretty obvious, right? So they're saying that to the English, yet you're watching it and the whole team is made up of West Africans um Mabappe is Cameroonian - so it's they're you know maybe grew up in France maybe their parents don't speak French their mothers probably don't speak French as a native language, the woman who's cleaning up the beer bottles and the pizza trays after the game who's working in the kitchen she probably didn't grow up speaking French. You know there's all these kind of ethnocentric values that really don't apply to the situation or the scene at the moment. Where that claim to the tribe's value might have worked for some time to kind of preserve the cultural identity [the French language] is [now] really not aligned with the way humanity is going which is that we're becoming more and more deeply interdependent and we're really needing a new set of values and a new story that aligns to this set of values that transcends and includes this tribalism and actually starts to see the inner relatedness of all things through collectivism which can only mutate through the voice of the Sacred individual.(*) (**)

To summarize the question of do I have can or not is not so much a sense of rejection of anyone that I'm biologically related to as much as it is an affirmation of the truth that « there's more kin to come » There's more of an invitation to evolve our sense of who is kin and ask ourselves who are My Relations and from there we can expand our sense of identity into a part of the greater whole. So it's not just me saying this. This is teachers and contemporary philosophers and Mystics of our era who are who are noticing that the evolution of human is moving towards something that has nothing to do with the filters or the glamor of appearance in enhancing what we are as much as it is in enhancing what we are in the Interiors of ourselves to create a more beautiful and true Exterior in the world around us. So that's the invitation and I'm available for questions.

*This is a little hard to explain. It’s paradoxical. The tribe can only awaken and evolve thru the blessing of the sacred individual, which as to forget the values and merits of the tribe in order to create from the boundaries of ‘collectivism’ which includes all boundaries and all tribes

** The problems we will face as a species now, until 2027 and to come will have to happen at the level of the collective, the planet as a whole, which is not kum-bah-yah unity but rather a unity in the recognition of the questions ‘who are we and where are we going » which really have no answer, and simply exsit in order to write the new story
