Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων Η Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων (Human Rights Day) γιορτάζεται κάθε χρόνο στις 10 Δεκεμβρίου, σε ανάμνηση της υπογραφής της Οικουμενικής Διακήρυξης των Δικαιωμάτων του Ανθρώπου από τη Γενική Συνέλευση του ΟΗΕ στις 10 Δεκεμβρίου 1948. Όραμα των εμπνευστών της, ένας κόσμος με δικαιώματα και ελευθερίες χωρίς διακρίσεις.Η έννοια «ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα», απόρροια πολυδιάστατης φιλοσοφικής, πολιτικής και κοινωνικής εξέλιξης, διαμορφώθηκε στην Δυτική Ευρώπη κατά τον 17ο αιώνα και καθιερώθηκε μέσα από εθνικές και διεθνείς διακηρύξεις. Αφετηρία ήταν η Διακήρυξη των Δικαιωμάτων του Ανθρώπου (Bill of Rights) του 1689, όταν το αγγλικό κοινοβούλιο τερμάτισε την ελέω θεού βασιλεία και καθιέρωσε την ελεύθερη εκλογή των μελών του. Με το συνταγματικό αυτό κείμενο διακηρύχθηκε η ανωτερότητα του νόμου έναντι του βασιλιά και περιορίσθηκαν τα βασιλικά προνόμια.Ακολούθησαν η Διακήρυξη της Αμερικανικής Ανεξαρτησίας της 4ης Ιουλίου 1776 και οι Διακηρύξεις των Δικαιωμάτων του Ανθρώπου και του Πολίτη της Γαλλικής Επανάστασης (1789 και 1793).Τα βασικά ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα προστάτευαν και τα πρώτα Συντάγματα των επαναστατημένων Ελλήνων. Μετά την Οκτωβριανή Επανάσταση ο Λένιν συνέταξε την Διακήρυξη των Δικαιωμάτων των Εργα��ομένων και του Εκμεταλλευόμενου Λαού, που δημοσιεύτηκε στις 16 Ιανουαρίου 1918. Σε αυτήν δεν γινόταν αναφορά στα ατομικά και θεμελιώδη δικαιώματα του ανθρώπου, που υποχωρούν υπέρ του κοινωνικού συνόλου και των συλλογικών δικαιωμάτων.Η Οικουμενική Διακήρυξη των Δικαιωμάτων του Ανθρώπου είναι έργο της Επιτροπής Δικαιωμάτων τού Ανθρώπου που συστάθηκε το 1947 από το Οικονομικό και Κοινωνικό Συμβούλιο του ΟΗΕ. Επικεφαλής της Επιτροπής ήταν η Έλινορ Ρούσβελτ, χήρα του προέδρου των ΗΠΑ Φραγκλίνου Ρούζβελτ, την οποία είχε διορίσει ο διάδοχός του Χάρι Τρούμαν.
