Hulu/Amazon/Netflix,

I would like to begin by saying that sometimes the end of something good is worse than the beginning of something bad.

Girl Meets World has been canceled. That is a fact. I am not in denial. I am not angry. I understand that the reason a show so life-changing must have been canceled was for good reason. I know some people are furious. I know some people are frustrated. I’ve considered labeling my feelings using these words before, but none of them seemed to truly describe the depth of my emotions. I have been thinking about the perfect word to use ever since the cancellation, and only now after watching the final episode of Girl Meets World did it come to me.

I am passionate.

Passion can drive a person to do anything. Passion can encourage someone that was formerly known as weak to endure hardships many thought were impossible. Passion can influence a crowd of people with a common interest to come together as a family and fight for what they believe in. That is a fact.

Here are some more facts:

1. Girl Meets World is the #1 show on Disney Channel. It gets more views each week than any of the other programs on the network. 2. I’ve genuinely cried multiple times since hearing the news of cancellation. 3. Girl Meets World has been nominated for multiple Emmy’s. 4. I am the same age and in the same grade as the characters. They help me get through life everyday. 5. I have bonded with my best friend and my sister in ways I never thought imaginable because of this show. 6. Michael Jacobs has confirmed that the show was not supposed to end where it did. He assumed he would get a 4th season. The story is not over. 7. I’ve never even considered fighting for something I believe in until this show aired. 8. The cast wants to continue the series. 9. My passion for Girl Meets World is overwhelming. My life will change drastically if this show does not continue.

I realize that it seems selfish to be devastated over the cancellation of a children’s show when there are countless other events going on in our world that are much more worthy of my tears and prayers. I realize that I should accept the fact that things end and simply move on. It’s the normal thing to do, after all. With that being said, I also realize that this television show means a lot more to its fans than other shows mean to theirs. I’ve never watched something before that has spoken to me on such a deep, personal level. The characters are real to me, and whether that be a figurative or literal statement doesn’t matter. Some form of them exists in every person I meet, and each and every one of them has caused me to change for the better.

Mr. Matthews has taught me to care about my education. He has showed me that what we learn isn’t irrelevant, that what we are taught can relate to our daily lives on a personal level if we care enough to figure out how. He’s made me realize that history doesn’t consist of just names and dates, and that people change people.

Zay has taught me to be real. He has showed me that race-based stereotypes don’t have to define the way I live. He has showed me that fitting into a new set of close friends isn’t always easy, but if they’re truly good people, they will accept you no matter who you are.

Smackle has taught me that it isn’t a bad thing to be different, and fitting into the crowd does not make you any better of a person. She has taught me that a disease does not define you. Finding love doesn’t only happen to people that are normal.

Lucas has taught me that not everything is how it originally seems. People have flaws. People have dark sides. Not everyone is as perfect as they may appear, and that’s okay. Lucas has verified my strong belief in refusing to judge a book by its cover.

Farkle has taught me that feelings are worth exploring, and that you do not have to stay true to the label you were originally given. People change, and Farkle is the main reason I’ve developed such a strong understanding of the fact that evolving is the only way to truly grow.

Maya has taught me to stay strong during tough situations. She convinced me that hope is not for suckers. She has showed me that being strong doesn’t have to coincide with breaking the rules and being a rebel in the eyes of others. She has taught me to stay true to the people that stayed. They are the only ones that really matter.

Riley has taught me to stay positive. She has taught me that other people should not determine how I act or who I want to be. She has proved to me that being unique doesn’t prevent me from being cared for. And most importantly, Riley Matthews has taught me that meeting the world is the most important thing a human being can do on their journey through life.

These people have changed me. Millions of fans agree. No other show could ever have a chance at changing the way I live my daily life as much as this one does. It seems impossible, but it’s true.

If there’s one thing that has kept me hopeful during this fight, it’s the countless examples Girl Meets World has provided, encouraging us to be passionate about what we believe in. If I’ve learned anything from this show, it’s not to give up. Whether that be on love, friendship, family, or learning doesn’t matter. All that matters is that I have faith that the universe is hearing us. It knows what’s truly good. It knows that I will not stop fighting for this show as long as at takes.

I don’t think it was a coincidence that the very first episode of Girl Meets World taught me to discover the cause I’m fighting for. I never entirely understood this until now. I know now that I believe Girl Meets World deserved better. I believe that that the show has more to offer. I believe that Girl Meets World should continue on another network for years to come.

It’s not debatable that at this day in age, children and adults of all ages need a show like this as a good influence. Current and future generations need to be taught to dream, try, and do good. These are the only things that matter, really.

So yes, Girl Meets World was canceled. But just because something is shut down doesn’t mean it’s over.

You have the power to keep hope alive. You have the power to save this show. I’m speaking on behalf of all of us when saying that this program means more than a lot to each and every one of us.

From the bottom of my heart, I love Girl Meets World.

I beg of you to try picking up Girl Meets World as an original on your network. With our massive fan base, I can guarantee you it will thrive.

I believe in my generation. I believe in us. I believe in Girl Meets World.

And that’s the cause I’m fighting for.

Reminder

The super famous Saved By the Bell started out as a cute sitcom called Good Morning, Miss Bliss about a bunch of kids and their favorite teacher on Disney Channel for only one season before getting cancelled. Disney (as I am now starting to realize) is very hit or miss about quality tv shows and their decisions about whether or not to cancel them. Saved By the Bell became one of the most popular tv sitcoms of all time running for years on NBC–even spawning several spin-offs and movies–once it was renewed by the company. So DO NOT lose hope about the GMW renewal. Any network at all could take it and make it sooo much better (give us more hard hitting and relatable storylines, cut out some of the painfully gimmicky lines Disney channel is known for). So to everyone working on this campaign, don’t lose hope. What you’re doing is not only important, it is exactly what the clique six would do!

If you are NOT currently a hulu or Netflix subscriber, let them know when you talk to them that you WILL subscribe (assuming you’re able to do so) if they save Girl Meets World.

And for all us geriatrics, it may be a good idea to mention your age when you talk to Netflix/hulu. Let them know that GMW actually has a broad demographic, with tons of adults (aka people with credit cards/buying power) who may not be fully reflected in the cable ratings since so many of us are cord cutters who watch the next day on Amazon or iTunes.

If you’re a younger fan, maybe talk about the impact GMW has had on you in terms of what it means to you as you grow up alongside these characters (grown ups can do our version of this too, but we have the buying power angle while the kids mostly don’t). Stress that you would be loyal. Mention that you will BEG your parents for a Netflix/hulu subscription if you don’t already have one.

Grown-ups and kids alike: activate your casual viewer friends! This may be especially effective with the GMW fandom adults, since I know most of us have friends our age who are casual viewers as opposed to being ubergeeks like we are. If you can, get THEM to do anything on this list, especially contacting Netflix and hulu.

Again, the older end of the GMW viewership—casual and uberfans alike—may not actually be present in the regular ratings since so many of us (and our casual viewer friends) are cord-cutters who watch the next day rather than live. If that applies to you or your friends, be sure to mention it when you talk to Netflix/hulu! Let them know we’re here, because while this show is very important to and beloved by millions of kids and that should absolutely be a major, major factor in this campaign…grown-ups have credit cards and money talks!

This is probably either gonna be a short run to a definitive “no deal” or a long marathon to getting what we want. But we HAVE to keep the push going until we know either way! You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, and this is worth a shot. If it doesn’t work out, at least we tried. 💛

If you are NOT a subscriber/member of either Netflix or Hulu, make sure that you’ll let them know that you’re willing to subscribe to their streams. Mentioning your age to Netflix and/or Hulu when speaking so they’ll be able to see that the show has a wide demographic is also a solid choice. If you’re a younger fan, older can also, and you have the opportunity be sure to mention what the series means to you and how it has had an impact on your life. If you are an older fan, make sure to mention that ratings for us might now show since most of us are “cord cutters” and we view series through streaming sites typically rather than turning the actual TV now so our views do not necessarily show up on the Nielsen scales.

Allowing Disney to be aware that you cancelled your subscription to them due to the cancellation is another thing you can add, along with the fact that you’re willing to reconsider your decision if they’re willing to possibly help us achieve our goal.

Mentioning that Girl Meets World has potential to be an amazing coming-of-age story for many to follow even after is also an important point.  Don’t be afraid to mention that being on Disney definitely held the story back a little, when most adolescence need a great story to relate to.  Something that makes being a teenager potentially easier.

MJ once said something about wanting to break the glass ceiling but was only able to lightly tap it being on the Disney Channel or something among those lines and it’s extremely important that we get the realistic take.  The show can do some amazing maturing on a new network and we need that.

It seems that we’ve been making waves throughout Netflix and HULU as of right now, but we do not want that to stop anytime soon.

As a fandom, we should be proud of what we’ve already achieved and we should not stop any time soon unless we are OFFICIALLY told to do otherwise.

I can’t help but to think that the cast and crew are proud of what we’re all doing (MJ’s tweet even gives me major hope).  I think if we continue to come together, we can all do this.

If you’re ever feeling down and are not feeling optimistic about what we’re doing remember that the writers still feel like they have stories to tell and a few of our leads and mains are being supportive of us, even if it is lowkey.

Multi-Fandom Help Call

Hey ! So I’m gonna go ahead and ask for a little inter-fandom solidarity between all us fans who love different things and places, but understand what that feels like.

Recently Girl Meets World, the spin off of the popular 90′s show Boy Meets World got cancelled for apparently no reason. It aired on Disney Channel and had its highest ratings. It was nominated for Emmy awards multiple times and the first week of 2017 isn’t out and it has been nominated for another two more. Since it’s cancellation multiple mainstream media resources have reported that it was too soon including Bustle, Seventeen and Vogue.

This show has greatly inspired the younger generation. It is different and has a lot of life lessons worth teaching this era of kids, teens and even adults. It hasn’t been given its proper chance to grow thus far and now it has been cancelled.

Even with its restrictions, Girl Meets World has dealt with racism, cyber-bullying. It introduced an Autistic main character as well as a Black main character. It also dealt with religion and hopelessness. This show has touched so many people.

So here’s a desperate plea from a fellow fan, Please help us get @netflix and @hulu on board with saving it :

The GMW fans are running a campaign to get the show picked up by Netflix or Hulu to continue production. The basics are below.

NETFLIX :

Netflix has been very supportive. Every single agent who has fans have talked to reported that it is currently the most requested show and that it has chances to be picked up.

HULU :

Is partly owned by Disney. Currently support is more for Netflix but Hulu has the better chance at this game if they’re interested. We need to get them interested.

WHAT YOU CAN DO :

One of the main reasons why the show was so significant to me (and still is) is because it brought me to you guys. Of course I have moved on from the show as you guys have. It's no longer as big in my life as it used to be. But there will always be some form of gratitude that I will have for the writers, cast and staff for bringing us this show. Always.
