summary: everything is the same but honkai: star rail is just a tv show, nothing is wrong so nothing is actually the same, but!! i was brainrotting over this with @faesther and i think we both learned: we are both the most delulu people on this planet 😋

A shaky camera records what seems to be a phone focused on a young man, and muffled giggling comes from behind the camera. The recording shows a greenscreen background and a set of what appeared to be ruins. The camera zooms in toward the man, hanging out alone. Literally. 

“C’mon, Dan Heng, do the thing! Do the magical girl transformation!” Cheers an energetic girl behind the camera, and one could assume she was the one holding the phone. Another girlish laugh joins in behind the camera as the camera shakes with each laugh. 

“They picked the worst time to be taking a break. I can’t feel my left rib cage when I’m not moving.” The man dubbed ‘Dan Heng’ grins at the camera while swaying back and forth two feet off the floor. On either side were wires holding him up, and unintentionally or not making him sway. A gray haired young woman pushes him slightly and the three laugh hysterically as he swings even more.

The camera pans to ‘Blade’ and ‘Yanqing,’ who were staring at the script before their mini break ended. The teenage boy idly twirls his sword around, almost hitting ‘Blade,’ before noticing the camera. He jogs over and opens his mouth to pretend eat the camera.

“Are you even in this scene?” He joins ‘Stelle’ in pushing ‘Dan Heng’ back and forth. 

“Doesn’t matter! Are you even ready for your big scene with Magical Girl Dan Feng?”

“For the last time, I am not a magical girl.” The man being swung around protests, and the camera does nothing to help the unflattering way his legs swing like pendulums as he continues to be assaulted on both sides.

The group continues fooling around before time is called, and ‘Yanqing’ goes back to join ‘Blade’ to start the scene once more.

“Oh no not the sword again…” ‘Dan Heng’ sighs, “I’m already heavy enough alone, do we really have to add another weight on here?”

“Don’t be a baby, it’s gonna slip out soon anyways!” The voice behind the camera cheers.

‘Yanqing’ goes over his lines once more, watching as ‘Stelle’ stops ‘Dan Heng’ from swaying any more. The camera shows the teen whining as he has his own wires to worry about now. ‘Blade’ and ‘Kafka’ head over their own spots in the scene.

“We really bullied a teenage boy in this scene, didn't we?” ‘Dan Heng’ mutters as ‘Blade’ helps relieve his sore sides.

“Not you, it’s the other you.” 

“Same difference.”

“Surrender!”

‘Dan Feng’ deftly swam through the air, swerving swords whizzing past his ear. ‘Yanqing’, for his young age, was firmly in the zone. He prepared a counterattack against the boy and he spotted ‘Blade’ preparing an attack of his own. His laughter echoes around the entire set, sending chills down ‘Dan Heng’s’ spine. 

‘Dan Heng,’ not wanting to be one-upped, goes through the motions that he had practiced with the other two on the set. He turns around, focused and in the zone himself. He could feel the eyes of off-set actors and staff and the cameras pointed at him, as ‘Dan Feng.’

Everything pauses for a moment. He and ‘Blade’ make eye contact, and rush the young boy. ‘Yanqing’ braces himself and prepares to parry the both of them, and ‘Dan Feng’ has to commend the younger actor for his confidence.

‘Blade’ brings back his weapon, swinging down at ‘Yanqing-’

“Cut!”

‘Dan Feng’ pauses, the sudden strident sound catching the attention of everyone. Before he could ask what happened, ‘Blade’ leans toward him.

“Oh, your horn.”

‘Blade’ bends down to pick up a branch-like prop, and it looks very similar to what he put on for his ‘Dan Feng’ outfit.

He brings a hand to his temple, and sure enough, there's a lack of horn on the right side of his head. He groans, leaning onto the wire in frustration.

“Nooo, we were doing so well…” He cries, covering his face with both hands.

‘Blade’ reassures him as he helps him put his horn back on. His praises are kind and well-meaning, but he can’t help but feel bad about the whole thing. If only he had noticed this stupid horn falling off earlier…

*SNAP!*

“HOLY FUCKING SHIT-”

“AHHHHH WHAT ON EARTH!”

‘Welt,’ although hiding his own shock, turns to scowl at his fellow members of the Astral Express, “Didn’t you know this was going to happen?”

“NO??” ‘March 7th’ snaps her neck just as quickly as ‘Tingyun’ did, and ‘Dan Heng’ worries she might need to be reminded how to properly do such a stunt safely.

“Sorry, sorry, I forgot…” ‘Stelle’ calms down quicker but still has to swallow thickly. ‘March 7th’ clings onto her costars arm, the tension loosening as she pets her head.

Staff were on set, offering ‘Tingyun’ a towel. They asked, concerned, if she needed a break, and she insists that she could do a couple more takes. She turns to her ‘benefactors’ with a sly smile on her face.

“Sorry, I scared you that bad, huh? Just make sure your reaction isn’t too genuine in the real take.” She boops ‘March 7th’s’ nose, to which the girl blinks at.

“Phew, yeah, alright, I’m ready now! I won’t freak out too badly the next time for sure.”

‘Stelle’ sighs, “You sound like you’re talking more to yourself than to her.”

The director calls for the scene to start once more. ‘Welt’ pats both ‘Stelle’ and ‘March 7th’s’ head before going over to his spot on the scene, “Just remember not to yell that loudly again. You got this, you two.”

“Thanks, sir…”

im better at explaining my thoughts verbally but like. here is my thoughts for some au w/ sparkle x robin.

(sparkle isnt AS deep into the elation in this cuz i feel like canon sparkle cannot hold any serious relationship at all. its impossible. shes just kind of an anthropomorphic rickroll) (and she wants black swan so bad it makes her look stupid)

so like this is assuming that the backstory we saw in sparkle’s animation is true, that she was a stage actress that started losing her sense of self before becoming a fool

and like, robin’s kind of an actress in a way. she’s a singer but the Perfect Facade she has to constantly put on is kind of close! but regardless of that, they’re both performers, so like. could have met at an event or something perhaps before robin got REALLY famous and they could have been friends and found it nice to have someone who understood what it’s like having to keep up an act all the time

but then ofc robin’s career takes off and she can’t be around as much even though she wants to make time to see her friend, their schedules never allow it and before you know it it’s been years since they’ve seen each other. in person, at least! sparkle sees robin everywhere she goes, on posters and merchandise and playing on the radio constantly.

this is around the time the elation starts creeping in and she starts struggling to know what parts of her are Real and what parts are the act. with no other close friends, she doesn’t feel safe letting her guard down around anyone, so she’s constantly playing this role… along with the meddling of the aeons, she pretty much loses it around this point. devolves into something akin to canon sparkle.

AND THEN! she gets that job to go to penacony. and she knows robin is going to be there. she wonders if the fame has changed her, or if she’s somehow really managed to stay that kind person she once was. but then she realizes that doesn’t really matter, because the sparkle that robin knew is long gone... right?

she tries not to think about their past. it’s useless now. it’s hardly even her past. she hears everyone talk about her, but never sees her in person until she watches her fall victim to Something Unto Death.

then, like the mentally stable and well adjusted person she is, she shapeshifts into her and starts pretending to be her. she isn’t sparkle. she isn’t the person robin knew. she’s less than a stranger. robin is dead. sparkle is a mask. she creeps up to a mirror, checking out her reflection. this is the closest she’s seen robin in years. and robin is dead. she clasps her hands together. it’s almost like they used to do. she runs her hand through her hair, greets herself in her voice… the nostalgia turns to vitriol, though, and she can’t help but laugh at how stupid and unfortunate it’s all become.

she goes off to mock robin’s brother about her death. in a way, she’s mocking herself, too. but then again, how can she mock what doesn’t exist? there is no self for her. she is whatever mask she wears, whatever role she plays. this makes it all the more frustrating that those sappy genuine emotions are insistently vying for her attention at the back of her thoughts. memories of the face that once wore these thousands of masks, the voice that wanted to scream, the arms that wanted to catch robin when she fell. those are all gone.

so why won’t they stop haunting her?

she’s close to the mirror again, hands pressed to it, forehead too, lips hovering over the glass…

she laughs and shatters it.

It’s been a long day of forced smiles and maintaining a mask, both for personal and work affairs. So when Boothill and he retreat to a backstage room to unwind after a day of shooting, Aventurine suggests to celebrate with a drink.

“Y’know I’m not one to deny a free drink,” Boothill says, shrugging off a leather jacket and tossing it over the back of the red velvet couch. The white shirt he wears is simple, but when your body is as sculpted as his, you don’t need fancy clothes to look good.

Aventurine takes a deep breath, trying to not let his eyes linger even if the dimmed lights could easily cascade the act. “The usual, I presume?”

I had a fun TWST × HSR AU idea

Instead of HSR characters traveling to Twisted Wonderland, TWST characters get teleported into the world of Honkai Star Rail.

Takes place during book 7

Yuu, Grim, Ace, Deuce, Epel, Ortho, and Jack decide to leave Lilia's Farwell party early and check out Yuu's bedroom mirror. Sebek also shows up later while looking for Malleus. But right as Malleus casts his signature spell, a stellaron appears and activates on the Isle of Sages. The combined power of Malleus's spell and the stellaron causes a portal open in Yuu's room, and teleportes the group onto Herta Space Station. Later, the group joins the Astral Express crew in order to find a way back home.

The only two downsides of this AU (that I can think of) are: 1. Yuu would have to keep Grim by their side 24/7 because they have no magic to protect themselves, & 2. Jack probably wouldn't be able to enter the Xianzhou Luofu because he might be mistaken for a borisin.

Thoughts?

Ohhhh, I have many manyyy big thoughts about this, you just made this hyperfixation worse, dear chum....

The First-Years getting transported into HSR would be such an interesting concept, like other than the small satisfaction Yuu would get for their closest friend group struggling with the getting isekai'd trope with them aswell and getting to re-learn everything again with an entirely new magic/power system would be absolute hell, the possibilities are endless with this!!

Getting accidently transported into Herta's Space Station would be the more kinder place to be unceremoniously sent to out of everywhere else there to be honest. Like, Herta herself would probably be interested on how did a couple of 'rowdy and simple-minded brats' got even on her secure station without alerting anyone but it would be fleeting so in true Herta fashion, she'd dumped them out to someone else as their problem. (Sorry Asta and Arlan-)

Imagine the group getting on the IPC or the Intellegensia Guild....brrr....or like the other planets that hadn't have their Stellaron problems get resolved yet.

Speaking of Stellaron, having one with a recently Overblotted Malleus around would be a natural disaster waiting to happen...not their problem tho-

not fuckboy Kafka being a fuckboy on accident, that is honesty kind of funny, but I am still running…towards her.

ok but Kafka in the firefly animation was kind of funny for some reason. she was also really hot in the animation but Elio definitely told her to be there, so she’s just sitting on a space while waiting for something and she’s just drinking. I was looking through firefly’s story and there was nothing about Kafka 😔 except for when she’s recruited and only mentioned as “the woman” there was stuff abt silver wolf and blade, so obviously everything abt her is going to be plot relevant when she shows up very soon in the main story.

Also Kafka at the interrogation scene was so silly. Like they took her jacket, her contacts and wiped off her lipstick for what? her back and her shoulders do be looking fine tho people like me are why there’s dress codes in school and her eyes are gorgeous, like she looks so much softer when you can see her pupils, she’s so pretty.

your post abt how Kafka slows her speaking was very interesting and I’d like to know how her va was directed for those scenes, and I definitely need to rewatch the interrogation again I’ll def get distracted

Speaking of her voice actor, Cheryl texiera was so good on the white night cover. Her belting was amazing. Definitely feeding my headcanons for my university au. In aural class you have to sing notes (from my research) to prove that you can tell the difference or smth, and I just think it’s be funny that reader would be so mad at Kafka for having perfect pitch and having a good voice and generally just being good. I’ll write whenever my actual uni isn’t kicking my ass.

fuckboy kafka’s lowkey a loser when you think about it… that’ll make more sense in the next part but the unnecessary things she does as proof that she cares are so silly. firefly’s trailer was so good i remember losing my mind when kafka was shown at the end because it was so unexpected 😭 but she did look gorgeoussss, my timeline was just profile pictures of this for a while hdjdhdj. she needs to put that glass down she’s always gotta be drinking something like let’s start carrying a water bottle baby (i love exaggerating her unhealthy habits). i also love that the trailer confirmed kafka was the first SH recruited even tho i already knew like yess prove me right hoyo

i love the interrogation scene of the luofu i think it’s my favourite, i remember squealing when she walked in the frame without her coat like i was a victorian man seeing a woman’s ankles for the first time— at the time i hadnt checked anything about her so when i saw her without her coat i realized that she was mostly wearing it to look good (she cut holes into it to pass her arms through them instead of it being over the shoulders like himeko bc she wears fancy long sleeves… just unnecessary?3!4?) then i read her character description in the archives and it said she loved collecting coats i was like “i knew it…”

SHE DOES LOOK SO MUCH SOFTER RAHHHHHH. she’s much less intimidating and i love it so bad because we were seeing her without her defenses for the first time + we got to see her full design (it’s my favourite). they took her jacket and contacts/wiped her makeup cause she actually got arrested so they likely needed information like eye color and fingerprints etc, plus she was hiding three grenades, two rifles and a sword like i’d confiscate that stupid ass coat too. i think the funniest part is that she went back for it afterwards 😭

ALSO YES THAT WHITE NIGHT HIGH NOTE CHANGED MY LIFEEEEE LIKE HSR IDOL/BAND AU WHEN???? i need that university au im gonna email your profs to cut you some slack so you can write because im itching just at the idea of an academic rivals story with her… hope your classes aren’t too stressful tho!

Aventurine is a model, Boothill and Robin are both musical artists (but for different genres), Sparkle is a stage actress, Firefly is a stunt double/actress, Ratio is just involved with a lot and very smart idk, and Gallagher and Topaz are actors

anyway, don't you think jp dubs of hsr and genshin are kinda... suck? personally, i HATE overly soft voices like robin's and citlali's (and probably sunday too). robin one was pure of spite. i get that she's supposed to be a soft hearted GROWN woman with an equally gentle voice, but come on, not that gentle. she doesn't even sound like a grown up anymore. for citlali, i actually have a good explanation- she was supposed to be this grumpy old grandma who would constantly scowl you over your wellbeing and stuff. the eng version kinda nailed it, but jp? nah. why does she have soft voice while clearly has an indication that she's pissed (the little 💢 thing in her ult animation). it just doesn't sit right with me.

dont get me wrong, i like some of the work of the jp vas. notably: welt because KUNIKIDA <333 also luocha + ayato cuz cmon, it's akira ishida. his voice is sexy as fuck and so does every character he ever voiced (+ fyodor).

no hate towards the vas, for they all just doing their work as they are told. but hoyo? all the hate goes to them and their suck ass voice direction team.

Lmao. Before I address your hot take: hoyoverse does not hire voice actors.

They Commission a Voice actor agency, which then reaches out to the va’s. The agency then look at the character sheets and whatever material hoyo provides them with, and decide on their own which va to recruit. So don’t hate the voice directing team lol. (Not sure if they even have smt like that…??)

Also it could be that the Japanese voice agency just interpreted her character differently, and there are certainly people who prefer the softer voices. I play in Chinese, so I actually don’t know how both the Jp and eng one sounds anymore.

Everyone is allowed to have an opinion, it’s not like I’m gonna say Nu uh you are wrong. I also have my hot takes, like, I don’t think mori from bsd is actually a pedophile. Low-key I feel he’s getting misunderstood. I mean in beast Au, he ended up becoming an orphanage director, and we know the characters didn’t undergo extreme changes. So, he probably was never a pedo from the beginning.
