On Hogwarts Legacy (from a former HP fan)

Might as well get this sorted out now. I used to be a massive Harry Potter fan, I had all the books, the movies, several games, went to Universal and got Gryffindor robes and my own wand and all that!

Then I discovered JK Rowling's bigotry against trans people and others, found out she got more awful as time went on. From there, I made the decision to not support her financially. I still kept the books and movies, but decided I wanted nothing more to do with the franchise.

The announcement and exposure of Hogwarts Legacy did little to prevent that. I'm not interested in the game since the major forms of antisemitism involved with the goblins, the shofar, the general genocide tone of it all, the technical problems, and no Quidditch on a supposedly "next gen" Wizarding World game have soured any interest I may have had.

It's like Cyberpunk 2077, only 10 times worse. I won't harass or send death threats or anything over it, but I will say that it's very disappointing to see streamers streaming it and people buying it PURELY to piss people off.

TL: DR: I loved the movies and books growing up, but the actions of the author have since poisoned any enjoyment I may have had or otherwise would have gotten out of future projects. That's all I gotta say about that.

You know what made that white fandom mom in my last post who acted like I was her child finally decide to cut ties with me bc I was an evil and mean little bitch?

She was obsessed with this idea of a H*rry P*tter (before JKR went mask off with the TERF thing, but still) next-gen RP collaborative writing game based on that right-wing rally in Charlottesville, but replace all the real aspects with HP counterparts, and I told her that as a non-Jewish white woman, it would be awful and not her place to take an event that harmed real Jewish people and POC, esp Black people, and turn it into a fun playground for her fictional wizard shit, and she got so mad and doubled down even after multiple POC and Jewish people publicly agreed with me and told her not to do it, and later, she found comfort in other whites (and one token WOC who was a Tr*mp supporter?) saying she did nothing wrong and I was the real racist (lol), and then the final straw was when she was being a moralizing bully over stupid shit towards other people and I told her to knock it off lol

it's not exactly easy with The Big Three but it does trivialise most of the non-boss enemies. obviously i appreciated this but i can see why things get silly

if i do it again (and I'm not sure I will; planning and training is an absurd time commitment) I'm dumping at least one of my combat pairs in favour of two more staffbots

i got lucky on invincisorc's miracle rolls but i did miss a few dual strikes and that REALLY hurts

luna+ is scary but vantage+ is the scariest. but that's why we have longbows

the mire dark fliers were the most annoying thing on the map. just baiting them into range ate up like 3 turns

overall pair analysis:

Chrom/sumia: (sniper / sage)

honestly really good. the only gen one pair i brought and Sumia was so useful as a luna nuker in sage / utility staffbot. Chrom didn't have room for limit breaker so his combat looked a lot shakier than the other units who got to initiate. but honestly you can't ever go wrong with longbows

sumia!lucina/gregor!laurent: (sniper / berserker)

Lucina got a LOT more out of having a berserker supporting her than I thought she would. Laurent was an absolute beast and his dual strikes did so much damage. Lucina had enough speed to double some of the fastest and scariest enemies which was incredible

henry!owain/donnel!kjelle: (berserker / wyvern lord)

i ummed and ahh'd about having Kjelle be an avotank for Anna and ending up giving her half the kit that would've made that work. she still was great and i got so much usage from her wyvern lord mobility. owain took a last minute (relatively speaking) reclass into berserker which ended up being great for him. a few vengeance powered hits meant that i could get three kills for them in one turn. i think they did the most killing just because they had the mobility for it lol. maybe next time I'll have Kjelle do staff utility / anna tanking with a hard support

lonqu!brady/anna!morgan: (sage / dark flier)

so this is like. peak Brady. best he can hope for best he can do. still kind of mediocre. morgan did the second most mob killing after Kjelle again because her mobility as a dark flier was just superb but i don't think this was anywhere near the top performing Morgans. glad i had her in dark flier though

gaius!noire/virion!yarne: (assassin / berserker)

a really high performing pair but i couldn't really find that many things for them to do. Noire in assassin was so fast she took out one of Anna's thronies on enemy phase after losing a terrifying 72 HP which was fun. if I'd had fewer combat units i think they could've shined but they got lost in the pack a bit

stahl!severa/Frederick!gerome: (paladin / warrior)

my biggest whiff. Severa was in paladin because i hadn't decided on an Anna management strategy and wanted options, and it was that or like.. general if i wanted lancefaire in play. plus Noire was running bowfaire assassin and I was already fielding three snipers and three sages so having another pavise-locked unit kind of made sense to me but if i hadn't bothered bringing them i don't think i would've noticed. i forgot fred!gerome is awful for APOTHEOSIS and he really did nothing, the best he could manage was stacking breaker skills because of course cherche gives him FIGHTER and not BARBARIAN so he was stuck behind Severa in warrior picking and choosing when he felt like dual striking. i don't think Severa wanted a hard support partner; she'd probably have been a lot happier with Owain for a galepair. paladin mobility was also ass and having to rescue chain Severa twice just to get her in range of something wasn't worth it

Chrom!Cynthia/libra!Inigo: (sniper / sage)

look. i play favourites. I'm not ashamed of that. pigtailed punisher is always going to be my number one baby and my perfect forever girl. of course baby gets special treatment. but even trying to put aside my rose tinted love bonus i don't think she missed a single aether proc and she saw a LOT of scary combat. inigo did what he could with vengeance to give them extra mobility but Cynthia was just great AND she didn't benefit from berserker pair up bonuses like Lucina did!!!! BABY NUMBER ONE. FOREVER

i think. if i do it again. i might have lonqu!severa as an Anna killer in wyvern lord working with. Henry!owain or Stahl!Owain or something because mobility and versatility are going to matter to her a lot more than uh a tonne of defence. lmao

I don’t read a lot of next gen stories because I don’t like to read what I write. Just like I don’t read a lot of post-war Hinny for the same reason. And there’s always been a draw to me of what happens next and it can’t be sunshine and rainbows because that’s not how the world works. I could never find something like that so I decided to write it.

There’s something intriguing and realistic of corruption in the government. Like Harry didn’t help the Ministry out of its corruption and make it a transparent and lawful government. It just drove the rich and powerful to work more behind the scenes and not so in their faces. I’ve hinted at this corruption in other stories. Take Entombed for example. There was a corrupt individual working right under Robards’ nose.

I see it as always going to be corrupt and seedy and a constant battle. Because, honestly, that’s how it is in real life. Greed and money and power really drive governments. It’s no different in the wizarding world.

277,051. It's not a ton, esp not compared to others, but it'll increase a lot over my next couple of series.

3) what are your top 5 fics by kudos?

4) do you respond to comments? why or why not?

i try to, yes! i've fallen a little behind for general chaotic life reasons, but assuming the comment isn't an outright hate comment, i will try to respond as much as possible.

5) what's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

i never actually got around to writing it, and i unpublished it a couple months ago because i knew i'd never finish it, but it was a lockwood & co. backstory fic for kipps. and it essentially ended with all of his friends and the girl he loved dying in various ways to ghosts; the final scene was him standing over the girl's grave.

6) what's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

uhhhhh i don't actually tend to write fics with happy endings? at least the traditional flavor of them. ultimately, it'll end up being start a war, but that is still in its very early stages, and to get a happy ending, it's got a lot of trauma for everyone to get through first.

7) do you write crossovers?

i... used to, with my own ocs, and sometimes i still write them in my head because it's fun to make my horrible ocs from different works meet each other. but in terms of actual writing i'd post, no, though i do love fusions; my biggest project to date is a swtor/kotor/hp fusion, and i have a swtor/mass effect fusion floating around with @revanchxst

8) have you ever received hate on a fic?

yes. usually i laugh because it never manages to be coherently thought-out, but occasionally it's just... someone being rude. then i just tend to move on.

9) do you write smut? if so, what kind?

oh god. fuck. yes, and it is almost universally intensely Loyalty Kink. there is always a Dynamic there, and for a weird amount of them there's an incredibly strong dom/sub dynamic, for others it's a loyalty kink. in one case it is. weird loyalty, an intense amount of dissociation, horrible decisions, blood magic, a mental bond, ill-advised ritual knives, and more dissociation. also internalized homophobia and weird amounts of dysphoria, for a cis character. and active withdrawal from what is essentially a magic addiction. i don't know how it fits in one doc either.

10) have you ever had a fic stolen?

nope!

not that i know of, no

12) have you ever co-written a fic before?

yes! several, actually, with @revanchxst, and we've got several in the works too.

13) what's your all time favorite ship?

oh god i can't pick one. frankly Scourge/Jedi Knight ends up being one of my absolute favorites for the angst potential, the loyalty, all of it. Exar Kun/Ulic Qel-Droma has given me terminal brainrot and they're never going to leave. Revalek is an old classic, they're so awful and i adore them. i am also immensely, immensely fond of Theon/Robb from asoiaf for incredibly horribly crunchy loyalty reasons. also the i should have been with him. where was i? i should have died with him kills me Every God Damned Time.

14) what's a WIP that you want to finish, but don't think you ever will?

anything from a fandom i'm no longer really part of tbh, which includes my lockwood & co stuff.

15) what are your writing strengths?

i like to think i'm good at putting a lot of emotion into darker stuff, and frankly i'm very fond of how i write Force/magic/whatever visions and powers. it's always been a favorite of mine.

16) what are your writing weaknesses?

dialogue. i hate dialogue so much. if it's not a big dramatic speech, it's awful. i hate having to write characters' reactions and movements in, and the whole thing always feels stiff and awful.

17) what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

it depends! i think that if you're doing more than a phrase or something that's very significant for some. idk, ritual or ceremony or something then it's better to simply indicate via italics or something else that the dialogue isn't in english (or whatever language the fic is in, but i write in english). but i love seeing bits of other languages thrown in there, be they real or conlangs, and i think a lot of readers also like little things like that, as long as they have an easy way to translate it!

18) what was the first fandom you wrote for?

uhhhh honestly i think it was Sherlock? that was certainly the first real fic i posted that i remember. naturally, it was about my oc, Sherlock's secret younger sister. i was like... 12

19) what's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet, but want to?

frankly, if i have any ideas, they get at least partially written immediately. so in my docs i basically have all the stuff i currently want to write for. however, i want to write more cassus/mandalore the ultimate and exar/ulic.

20) what's your favorite fic you've written?

start a war, without hesitation. i am in love with this fic and the characters, and the entire series is going to be incredibly fun to write. the hp au is a very, very close second, especially any parts with my favorite horrible rat bastard (not that many, but i love him).

For the memorable moment it's so difficult to choose one because there's so many uuugh

I'm gonna cheat and go with one for each AU:

Cards: I think it's a tie between Hinata's the ace of spade reveal in the first fic and when Futakuchi think that Tendou is the ace. They both had me absolutely cackling at the chaos that ensues (also Bokuto playing his lute because just imagining it has me swooning)

HP: Literally any scene with Hoshiumi in it in the last fic. I adore the way you write him and I'm really touched by the things he says! And same as anon before, the scene with Hinata in the second task is incredible!! I love a lot of scenes in the past books as well but well, it'd take forever :')

Walking with my eyes open: When Gen comes to think about how Senkuu is made of the things he loves. This scene really stuck with me somehow. Same with the "I'm human and shouldn't be treated any different". It actually made me think about his words a lot.

Scooby-Doo : it's not much but it's the conversation between Iwaizumi and Bokuto in the first chapter. They're my two favorite characters so I fixated on it ahah They're like, the sweet himbo duo I love them

AtsuHina: when Atsumu is searching for his phone while Hinata is freaking out next to him not knowing why it's important when they have a mariage certificate in front of them. I can see the scene so well it's chaotic I love it ahah

Ha, so funny thing about Bokuto playing lute in If Stone Bled Symphonies. I had just recently watched some of the Witcher on Netflix and while the characters are nothing at all alike, I was definitely in a lutes-are-awesome mood when I was planning it. And so, lute-playing Bokuto was born.

To be honest the stuff with Hoshiumi and Hinata are definitely some of the scenes I think hardest about for this one. Those and the ones between Oikawa and Hinata just always seem to have a special note for me.

For Walking With My Eyes Open, the scene where Senkuu talks about how he's human and can't be immortal is also my favorite scene in that fic. I legit don't think I've ever had a scene I edited that much, I still have a copy saved of my original version (since I save most things) and it's so different from the final one. But, I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Iwaizumi and Bokuto are such an underrated duo inf fanfic and I truly love to pair them up together. I don't even know how to describe their dynamic; but, dang, they're some of my favorites, too

Atsuhina's one braincell but working really hard to make a second is handsdown one of my favorite things to write in that story. It feels weird to say too much since it's only been one chapter, but I really want to show them maturing and growing older together but in a way that keeps their core personalities. I want to show how they can be the best versions of themselves. So...hopefully sooner or later, I can get to posting the next chapter :)
