How to Delete a Business on Google: Your Complete Guide by GMB Briefcase
Tumblr media
Managing your business’s online presence is essential for any successful brand. But sometimes, there are legitimate reasons to remove your Google Business Profile—whether due to a permanent closure, a relocation, or a change in business ownership. Whatever the reason, deleting a Google Business Profile requires a careful approach to ensure that any vital data is protected and no digital footprints are left behind. In this guide, GMB Briefcase walks you through the process to delete a business on Google safely and efficiently.
Why Delete a Google Business Profile? Before we get into the steps, it’s important to understand why you might want to delete your Google Business Profile. Here are some of the most common reasons:
Business Closure: If the business has permanently closed, removing its online profile helps prevent customers from trying to visit a nonexistent location. Location Change: Relocating your business to a new location may call for a fresh Google Business Profile, especially if the original profile doesn’t match the new area. Ownership Transfer: If the business has been sold or transferred, deleting the profile ensures that control goes to the new owner if they decide to set up their own Google listing. Deleting a Google Business Profile is straightforward, but it’s essential to follow each step carefully to avoid losing any critical business data. Let’s dive into the details.
Step 1: Backup Important Business Data When you delete a Google Business Profile, all associated data, including customer reviews, photos, and posts, will be lost. To safeguard this information, it’s best to back it up before proceeding.
Use Google Takeout: Google Takeout allows you to download all your business data in a few clicks. Visit Google Takeout. Select the “Google My Business” option to download. Choose your preferred format and complete the download process. GMB Briefcase Tip: Saving your data helps maintain a record of customer feedback, photos, and insights that could be useful for future business decisions or marketing.
Step 2: Log into Google Business Profile Manager To delete your business profile, you’ll need to log in to the Google account associated with your business listing.
Visit the Google Business Profile Manager. Sign in with the email connected to your business profile. Step 3: Choose the Business Profile to Delete Once logged in, your Google Business Profile dashboard displays all business listings associated with your account. Select the specific business profile you want to delete.
Click on the profile you wish to remove. Double-check that you’ve selected the correct profile, especially if you manage multiple locations. Step 4: Access the “Remove Business” Option Within your business profile settings, there’s an option to delete the listing. Follow these steps carefully:
Navigate to the Info Tab: In the left-hand menu, click on the “Info” tab. Locate the Remove Business Option: Scroll down and look for the “Remove Business” option. Select Remove Business: This action initiates the deletion process. GMB Briefcase Advice: Google offers options beyond permanent deletion, like marking your business as temporarily closed or transferring ownership. If any of these options apply, consider using them to avoid complete deletion.
Step 5: Confirm the Deletion of Your Profile After selecting “Remove Business,” Google will ask for a final confirmation before completing the process. Make sure you’re fully ready to delete, as this action is irreversible.
Review the Deletion Prompt: Google will inform you that this action cannot be undone. Click Confirm: If you’re sure, click “Confirm” to finalize the deletion. Important: After confirmation, your Google Business Profile and all related data, including reviews and photos, will be permanently removed.
Alternatives to Deleting Your Google Business Profile If you’re unsure about permanently deleting your Google Business Profile, GMB Briefcase recommends considering these alternatives:
Mark as Permanently Closed: If your business has closed but you still want it to appear in search results as a closed business, this option is ideal. Transfer Ownership: For a change in ownership, transferring the profile to the new owner lets them manage and update the profile as they see fit. Mark as Temporarily Closed: If your business plans to reopen, marking it as temporarily closed maintains your online presence and can prevent customers from assuming it’s permanently closed.
Implications of Deleting a Google Business Profile Deleting your Google Business Profile affects various aspects of your online presence.
Here are the main implications:
Loss of Local SEO: Google Business Profiles contribute to local SEO by making your business visible to nearby customers. Deleting the profile removes this SEO boost, which can impact search rankings. Customer Reviews: Once deleted, all customer reviews will be permanently erased, which can reduce the visibility and credibility of your business if you decide to reopen. No Presence on Google Maps: Your business will no longer appear on Google Maps, which is often a primary tool for potential customers to locate your business.
Final Thoughts from GMB Briefcase Deciding to delete a Google Business Profile is significant, with lasting effects on local SEO, customer relationships, and online visibility. GMB Briefcase advises businesses to weigh the reasons for deleting and consider alternative options when possible. Whether you’re closing a business, relocating, or transferring ownership, following a structured approach will help you delete the profile safely and smoothly.

How to Safeguard Your Google My Business Photos: Delete Inappropriate Images
Tumblr media
Your Google My Business (GMB) profile plays a crucial role in shaping how potential customers view your business. High-quality photos on your GMB page are often the first impression visitors get of your company, and they can make or break their decision to visit. However, sometimes unwanted or inappropriate photos may end up on your profile, uploaded by customers or automatically selected by Google. If you’re wondering how do I delete photos from my Google Business page, understanding the process of managing these images is key to maintaining a professional and positive online presence.
1. The Importance of Monitoring Your GMB Photos
Your GMB photos are a direct reflection of your business’s reputation. While customer-uploaded photos can offer authenticity, they aren’t always aligned with your branding. Low-quality, blurry, or inappropriate images can damage your business’s image, giving potential customers the wrong impression. A customer might upload a poorly lit photo of your restaurant in Argentina, or an irrelevant image of a product you don’t offer in Belgium. Regardless of location, such photos can mislead potential customers and lead them to form inaccurate opinions about your business.
Regularly monitoring your GMB photos is essential for preventing this. By staying vigilant and reviewing new photo uploads frequently, you can quickly identify any images that don’t fit with your brand or may harm your online presence. This is especially important for businesses relying on local citations and business directories, where first impressions matter most.
2. Steps to Delete Inappropriate Photos
When you come across a photo that you want to remove, you can do so by logging into your Google My Business account. Navigate to the "Photos" section, where you’ll see all the images linked to your business. If you find an image that is inappropriate or misrepresentative, simply click on the photo, select the three-dot menu in the top corner, and choose the “Delete” option. This will remove the image from your profile, ensuring it no longer affects your business's appearance.
In cases where the image has been uploaded by a customer and cannot be directly deleted, Google allows you to flag inappropriate images for review. If an image violates Google’s content guidelines, such as containing offensive material or spam, flagging it will prompt Google to assess whether it should be removed. This feature is particularly useful for businesses in areas like Costa Rica or Argentina, where customer-uploaded images may sometimes be less culturally or contextually appropriate.
3. Proactively Managing Your GMB Photos
While deleting inappropriate photos is important, being proactive with your photo management is just as critical. To safeguard your brand, you should regularly update your GMB profile with fresh, high-quality images that showcase your business in the best light. Upload professional photos of your products, services, or storefront, and encourage satisfied customers to share positive images of their experiences. This strategy not only builds a strong visual identity but also pushes less flattering images further down the photo stream, reducing their visibility.
For businesses focusing on local citation services and improving their online visibility in local business directories, having a well-maintained photo section on your GMB profile is a great way to stand out. Clean, clear, and relevant images are more likely to attract attention and improve your rankings in local search results.
Result
In today’s digital world, safeguarding your Google My Business photos is essential for maintaining a positive and professional image online. Regularly reviewing and deleting inappropriate or irrelevant images is key to ensuring your profile accurately reflects your brand and attracts the right customers. By actively managing your GMB photos, you can protect your reputation and enhance your local SEO performance. For businesses seeking to improve their local presence and citation management, Citation Builder Pro offers the tools you need to maintain a strong and consistent online presence across various business directories.

Hey, PSA:
On your phone, go to Settings> Security and Privacy> Privacy> Other Privacy Settings> Ads> Delete Advertising ID
Then go back to Other Privacy Settings> Google location history> Turn off Location History &/or Turn-on Auto-Delete (you can set a time period of how long to keep it)
Then, staying on Other Privacy Settings, go to '+ See all activity controls'> Web & App activity> Turn off (you can also turn-on Auto-Delete for here too)
Then Scroll down to Personalized ads> My Ad Center> Turn Off Personalized Ads.
Google has no business knowing/storing everything you do online, and knowing/storing where you go everyday. Turn it off.
These instructions are for an Android phone, IOS might be different. If you have IOS or another operating system feel free to add on with your own map to where they've buried these settings in your phone to help others.

I spent the last 11 months working with my illustrator, Marta, to make the children's book of my dreams. We were able to get every detail just the way I wanted, and I'm very happy with the final result. She is the best person I have ever worked with, and I mean, just look at those colors!
Tumblr media
I wanted to tell that story of anyone's who ever felt that they didn't belong anywhere. Whether you are a nerd, autistic, queer, trans, a furry, or some combination of the above, it makes for a sad and difficult life. This isn't just my story. This is our story.
Tumblr media
I also want to say the month following the book's launch has been very stressful. I have never done this kind of book before, and I didn't know how to get the word out about it. I do have a small publishing business and a full-time job, so I figured let's put my some money into advertising this time. Indie writers will tell you great success stories they've had using Facebook ads, so I started a page and boosting my posts.
Within a first few days, I got a lot of likes and shares and even a few people who requested the book and left great reviews for me. There were also people memeing on how the boy turns into a delicious venison steak at the end of the book. It was all in good fun, though. It honestly made made laugh. Things were great, so I made more posts and increased spending.
Tumblr media
But somehow, someway these new posts ended up on the wrong side of the platform. Soon, we saw claims of how the book was perpetuating mental illness, of how this book goes against all of basic biology and logic, and how the lgbtq agenda was corrupting our kids.
Tumblr media
This brought out even more people to support the book, so I just let them at it and enjoyed my time reading comments after work. A few days later, then conversation moved from politics to encouraging bullying, accusing others of abusing children, and a competition to who could post the most cruel image. They were just comments, however, and after all, people were still supporting the book.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then the trolls started organizing. Over night, I got hit with 3 one-star reviews on Amazon. My heart stopped. If your book ever falls below a certain rating, it can be removed, and blocked, and you can receive a strike on your publishing account. All that hard work was about to be deleted, and it was all my fault for posting it in the wrong place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I panicked, pulled all my posts, and went into hiding, hoping things would die down. I reported the reviews and so did many others, but here's the thing you might have noticed across platforms like Google and Amazon. There are community guidelines that I referenced in my email, but unless people are doing something highly illegal, things are rarely ever taken down on these massive platforms. So those reviews are still there to this day. Once again, it's my fault, and I should have seen it coming.
Luckily, the harassment stopped, and the book is doing better now, at least in the US. The overall rating is still rickety in Europe, Canada, and Australia, so any reviews there help me out quite a lot. I'm currently looking for a new home to post about the book and talk about everything that went into it. I also love to talk about all things books if you ever want to chat. Maybe I'll post a selfie one day, too. Otherwise, the book is still on Amazon, and the full story and illustrations are on YouTube as well if you want to read it for free.

How to avoid getting low star reviews on your ecommerce website and productsCheckout more tutorial videos and learn about dropshipping and e-commerce, go to; https://ecomhardy.com/ There are a few steps you can take to try to avoid getting low star reviews on your e-commerce website: Make sure you have a clear returns and exchanges policy in place. This can help prevent customer frustration if they receive a product that is not what they expected or is defective. Respond promptly to customer inquiries and complaints. This shows that you care about your customers and are willing to go the extra mile to address any issues they may have. Offer high-quality products. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it's important to ensure that the products you sell are of good quality. This can help prevent negative reviews due to product defects or poor performance. Ensure that your website is user-friendly and easy to navigate. If customers have a hard time finding what they're looking for or placing an order, they may leave a negative review. Follow up with customers after their purchase to see if they are satisfied with their order. This can help you identify any potential issues before they leave a negative review. Consider offering incentives for customers to leave reviews. This could be a discount on their next purchase or a small gift. Positive reviews can help offset any negative reviews that you may receive. Set realistic expectations for your products. If you oversell the capabilities of a product, customers may be disappointed when it doesn't live up to their expectations. Be honest and transparent about what your products can do. Make sure your product descriptions and images are accurate. This can help prevent customer disappointment and reduce the risk of negative reviews. Consider offering a satisfaction guarantee or warranty. This can give customers added peace of mind and may encourage them to leave a positive review. Use customer feedback to improve your products and customer experience. If you receive a negative review, try to use it as an opportunity to learn and make improvements. By following these steps, you can help minimize the number of low star reviews you receive and maintain a positive reputation for your e-commerce business.

An old concept that I'm still feral over, but a Dreamling fic in which the dreamling relationship is chronicled entirely by Yelp reviews of the New Inn.
Reviews are either 5* or 1* with surprisingly little in between, and the business owner replies are always a riot. They start off fairly normal, talking about the food and drink, the couple of guest rooms upstairs, the location and prices etc, but then they start to get weird.
Constantine leaves 3*, beer is shit whiskey is ok not haunted which is more than I can say for most london pubs and the response is Thanks Jo, but you're still banned
4* this place is run by my history professor and it's amazing but he asked me about my overdue essay three times so I can't give it 5* and Hob, who has had multiple students visit the pub for the sole purpose of doing this, is just like you still haven't submitted that, get off yelp and start citing your sources
There are multiple 5* reviews like would give 10* if i could, the owner chased off a neo nazi with a literal sword he pulled out from behind the bar
5* should probably give it less because a couple of times the answers to the history round on the monthly quiz night have been wrong, but otherwise it's a solid little place for a reasonably priced pint and a nice afternoon and Hob's response is just those answers were right
And then Dream comes back and the reviews start... Changing, a bit
One of the 1* reviews is just complaining about the fact that there was a bird at the bar and no one got rid of it and the reply from Hob is that's Matthew, he has a tab. Several of the 5* reviews are also about the fact that sometimes there's a bird in the bar
One of the 5* reviews is saw the most beautiful goth twink in the world, will definitely be going back and Hob nearly deletes that one. The reply instead is that's my boyfriend, unlike Matthew he never pays his tab
5* i have no idea how i got there or found the place because i swaer i was halfway across london from where google maps says it is but anyway the bartender was really great and understandig when I started crying on him, will defiantely go back if reality ever warps like that again. Response from owner: yeah sorry about the reality warping, we don't get it either
1* I only wish I could have given this establishment a glowing review – fabulous service, lovely food and a sumptuous wine I hadn't expected, but unfortunately I had to see my brother's face. Response from owner: Desire get off the internet, it doesn’t need your help

CW: depiction of a seizure, anxiety, loss of consciousness, hurt/comfort, Sirius' cooking
You could hear voices murmuring around you - perhaps stationed somewhere above you - though you weren’t currently confident in your spatial awareness. You couldn’t make out what the voices were saying, but you could tell that they were nice; that the voices were lovely.
Or perhaps there wasn’t any voices at all, perhaps it was just a presence; perhaps it was just a lovely presence. Either way, you were sure you felt grateful for it.
“Easy dove, there you are.” You heard whispered as a breath was forcefully exhaled from your lungs. “There you are, you’re alright sweetheart. You can stop the timer, Pads.”
You hadn’t realised you had started crying until someone was shushing you and wiping tears away from your cheeks.
“Remus’ll be right back, angel; he just went to get you some water.” A voice explained from above you; James, it was James’ voice.
It was James’ voice and you were on the floor; how had you ended up on the floor?
You were having dinner; Sirius had made dinner for you all - roast chicken and potatoes. It was supposed to be roast chicken, potatoes, and broccolini, but he had burnt the broccolini.
It had been a lovely meal until it wasn’t; it had been a lovely meal until your mouth started to taste like metal.
“You feeling alright, sweets?” Sirius had asked when you abruptly stopped talking and set your fork down beside your plate.
You were upset - and perhaps a little scared, though this certainly wasn’t anything new - and you hadn’t been ready to admit what you thought was about to happen; not right then, not aloud.
You simply shook your head no.
“Is it Pads’ cooking? Because we can order take away.” James had offered in jest, only cluing in that something was wrong when Remus gently nudged James’ elbow with his knuckles.
“Seizure?” Remus asked simply.
You squeezed your eyes shut - in embarrassment or fear, you weren’t entirely sure - and nodded your head yes.
It was like a switch was flipped and they all fell into business mode.
“I’ll go move the coffee table.” Sirius proclaimed as he hurried from the table towards the living room and James was at your side to help you up.
“I’m sorry.” You gritted out miserably, earning you a sad sigh from James who was all but carrying you into the next room.
“There’s nothing to be sorry for, sweetheart. We’ve got you.”
And you could only trust that this was true as your consciousness began to fade just as your body was lowered onto the carpeted floor.
It had been a seizure, you had a seizure.
“Hey dovey.” You heard above you; a slight breeze prickling your skin alerting you to the fact that Remus had just returned.
A spike of worry surged through your core as you let out a few quick breaths. “Rem.” You sobbed.
The sound of something being set down on the coffee table, James shifting away from you to make room for Remus, and two strong hands cupping each side of your face.
“I’m right here, love. Can you open your eyes for me?” He murmured softly, rubbing at your cheekbones with his thumbs.
A few quick puffs of hair left your lips again, but you were distracted from your panic as you felt gentle fingers press into your calves.
“You’re alright, we’ve got you. Open your eyes, dovey.”
You tried to take in a deep breath as you relented; opening your eyes to have your vision swimming with the sad smile of Remus. “There you are; you’re alright.” He promised you.
“Anything sore?” Sirius asked uncharacteristically quietly for your arguably most boisterous boyfriend as he continued tracing soothing circles on your Achilles tendon.
“I don- I don’t think so.” You whispered through a hiccup.
You heard James whimper in sympathy as his hand appeared on Sirius’ shoulder.
“D’you think you can manage a shower or bath?” Remus asked then, encouraging your eyes back to his as he seemed to survey your face.
You considered the welcoming warmth of a bath or shower, but your stomach seemed to roll at the thought of doing anything other than laying down for the next foreseeable future.
Your face seemed to give away your decision as Remus sighed and pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead. “Cuddles it is then, hm?”
James was suddenly behind you pressing an upside down kiss to your forehead before he was encouraging your shoulders upwards into a seated position.
“Water,” Remus started as he placed the glass into your hand. “And paracetamol.”
You took the tablet (as a preemptive solution for a potential headache) and drank the glass of water dutifully earning you two more forehead kisses by Remus and James and a squeeze of your foot by Sirius before James was helping you up and ushering you to the bedroom.
Time seemed to move oddly as someone helped you change into a pair of pyjamas and ease you under the covers of the bed.
“Jamie and I will clean up, m’love; you cooked.” Remus murmured quietly to Sirius who seemed painfully uncomfortable as his eyes darted nervously between you and Remus.
“I think it should be you who stays, Rem.”
James sighed as he rested his hand on the juncture of Sirius’ neck and rubbed at the column of his throat with his thumb. “You know Y/N gets anxious after a seizure, Pads; just like Moony is always the first name you call out after a nightmare, yeah?”
“Siri.” You whimpered; your voice sounding particularly pathetic even to your own ears.
The three boys seemed surprised by your voice, clearly under the impression you’d fallen asleep during their quiet deliberation.
“Jamie and I will clean, Sirius. You’re in charge of snuggle duty.” Remus repeated. And while some apprehension was still obvious in his face, he seemed to concede to your grabby hand and Remus’ imploring gaze.
The two boys left the room as Sirius carefully slid in under the covers beside you.
Out of all of your boyfriends, Sirius was often left the most upset by your episodes; when he felt strong emotions (such as fear or worry), he tended to shut down.
“I ruined dinner.” You pouted as Sirius pulled you into his chest.
He let out a teasing scoff with only half the amount of humour he usually carried. “I ruined dinner by offering to cook, sweetness.”
“You guys didn’t even get to finish eating.” You carried on, tears painfully obvious in your voice which made even more tears well up in your eyes simply in embarrassment for crying.
“No, no baby; none of that now, yeah? I was full, Jamie was ready to order pizza, and I’m pretty sure Remus was feeding the chicken to the cat anyway.” He promised, stamping a kiss to your head and pulling you in closer to his side. “You never ruin anything, ever. You make everything better simply by being there, okay?”
“I don’t mean to scare you.” You whispered, feeling painfully vulnerable and simultaneously wholly safe in Sirius’ arms.
“You don’t scare me. You don’t scare me; I am scared because I feel useless. I hate not knowing what to do for you baby.” He whispered back.
You hummed as if in thought for a few as you felt your eyelids growing heavy. “This.”
“Hm?”
“Do this, just this; that’s what you can do for me.” You slurred as you felt the heavy hands of sleep dragging you further into the mattress beneath you.
You could feel Sirius chuckle - both in the form of the air he breathed into the crown of your head and the gentle rumble of his chest - as he pressed another lingering kiss into your hair. “Consider it done, my love.”

Forcing Google to spin off Chrome (and Android?)
Tumblr media
If you'd like an essay-formatted version of this post to read or share, here's a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/11/19/breaking-up-is-hard-to-do/#shiny-and-chrome
Tumblr media
Last August, a federal judge convicted Google of being "a monopolist" and acting "as one to maintain its monopoly." The judge concluded that key to Google's monopoly was the vast troves of data it collects and analyzes and asked the parties to come up with remedies to address this.
Many trustbusters and Google competitors read this and concluded that Google should be forced to share its click and quer y data. The technical term for this is "apocalyptically stupid." Releasing Google's click and query data into the wild is a privacy Chernobyl in the waiting. The secrets that we whisper to search engines have the power to destroy us a thousand times over.
Largely theoretical answers like "differential privacy" are promising, but remain theoretical at scale. The first large-scale live-fire exercise for these should not be something as high-stakes as Google's click and query data. If anything, we should delete that data:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/08/07/revealed-preferences/#extinguish-v-improve
The last thing we want to do is use antitrust to democratize surveillance so that everyone can spy as efficiently as Google does. In theory, we could sanitize the click and query data by limiting sharing to queries that were made by multiple, independent users (say, only sharing queries that at least 30 users have made), but it's unlikely that this will do much to improve the performance of rival firms' search engines.
Google only retains 18 months' worth of click and query data, thus once we cut off its capacity to collect more data, whatever advantage it has from surveillance will begin to decay immediately and fall to zero in 18 months.
(However: the 18 months figure is deceptive, and deliberately so. Google may only retain your queries for 18 months, but it is silent on how long it retains the inferences from those queries. It may discard your "how do I get an abortion in my red state" query after a year and a half, but indefinitely retain the "sought an illegal abortion" label it added to your profile. The US desperately needs a federal consumer privacy law!)
https://pluralistic.net/2023/12/06/privacy-first/#but-not-just-privacy
And just to be clear, there's other Google data that would be very useful to rival search engines, like Google's search index – the trove of pages from the internet. Google already licenses this out, and search engines like Kagi use it to produce substantially superior search results:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/04/04/teach-me-how-to-shruggie/#kagi
The DOJ has just filed its proposal for a remedy, and it's a doozy: forcing Google to sell off Chrome, on the basis that both of these are the source of much of Google's data, and no rival search engine is likely to also have a widely used browser:
https://9to5google.com/2024/11/18/us-doj-google-sell-chrome/
This represents something of a compromise position: the DOJ had initially signalled that it would also demand a selloff of Android, and that's been dropped. I think there's a good case for forcing the sale of Android as a source of data, too.
In competition theory, these selloffs are referred to as "structural separation" – when a company that provides infrastructure to other firms is prohibited from competing with those firms:
https://locusmag.com/2022/03/cory-doctorow-vertically-challenged/
For example, it used to be that banks were prohibited from competing with the companies they loaned money to. After all, if you borrow money from Chase to open a pizzeria, and then Chase opens a pizzeria of its own across the street, you can see how your business would be doomed. You have to make interest payments to Chase, and your rival doesn't, and if Chase wants to, it can subsidize that rival so it can sell pizzas below cost until you're out of business.
Likewise, rail companies were banned from owning freight companies, because otherwise they would destroy the businesses of every freight company that shipped on the railroad.
In theory, you could create fair play rules that required the bank or the railroad to play nice with the business customers that used their platforms, but in practice, there are so many ways of cheating that this would be unenforceable.
This principle is well established in all other areas of business, and we recoil in horror when it is violated. You wouldn't hire a lawyer who was also representing the person who's suing you. Judges (with the abominable exception of Supreme Court justices!) are required to recuse themselves when they have a personal connection with either of the parties in a case they preside over.
One of the weirdest sights of the new Gilded Age is when lawyers for monopoly companies argue that they can play fair with their customers despite their conflicts of interest. Think of Google or Meta, with their ad-tech duopoly. These are companies that purport to represent sellers of ads and buyers of ads in marketplaces they own and control, and where they compete with sellers and/or buyers. These companies suck up 51% of the revenue generated by advertising, while historically, the share taken by ad intermediaries was more like 15%!
https://pluralistic.net/2023/05/25/structural-separation/#america-act
Imagine if you and your partner discovered that the same lawyer was representing both of you in the divorce, while also serving as the judge, and trying to match with both of you on Tinder. Now imagine that when the divorce terms were finalized, lawyer got your family home.
No Google lawyer would agree to argue on the company's behalf in a case where the judge was employed by the party that's suing them, but they will blithely argue that the reason they're getting 51% of the ad-rake is that they're providing 51% of the value.
Structural separation – like judicial recusal – comprehensively and unarguably resolves all the perceptions and realities of conflict between parties. The fact that platform owners compete with platform users is the source of bottomless corruption, from Google to Amazon:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/11/28/enshittification/#relentless-payola
In other words, I think the DOJ is onto something here. That said, the devil is – as always – in the details. If Google is forced to sell off Chrome, rather than standing it up as its own competing business, things could go very wrong indeed.
Any company that buys Chrome will know that it only has a certain number of years before Google will be permitted to spin up a new browser, and will be incentivized to extract as much value from Chrome over that short period. So a selloff could make Chrome exponentially worse than Google, which, whatever other failings it has, is oriented towards long-term dominance, not a quick buck.
But if Google is forced to spin Chrome out as a standalone business, the incentives change. Anyone who buys Chrome will have to run it as a functional business that is designed to survive a future Google competitor – they won't have another business they can fall back on if Google bounces back in five years.
There's a good history of this in antitrust breakups: both Standard Oil and AT&T were forced to spin out, rather than sell off, parts of their empire, and those businesses stood alone and provided competitive pressure. That is, until we stopped enforcing antitrust law and allowed them to start merging again – womp womp.
This raises another question: does any of this matter, given this month's election results? Will Trump's DoJ follow through on whatever priorities the current DoJ sets? That's an open question, but – unlike so many other questions about the coming Trump regime – the answer here isn't necessarily a nightmare.
After all, the Google antitrust case started under Trump, and Trump's pick for Attorney General, the credibly accused sexual predator Matt Gaetz, is a "Khanservative" who breaks with his fellow Trumpians in professing great admiration for Biden's FTC chief Lina Khan, and her project of breaking up corporate monopolies:
https://www.thebignewsletter.com/p/trump-nominates-khanservative-matt
What's more, Trump is a landing strip for a stroke or coronary, which would make JD Vance president – and Vance has also expressed his approval of Khan's work.
Google bosses seem to be betting on Trump's "transactional" (that is, corrupt) style of governance, and his willingness to overrule his own appointees to protect the interests of anyone who flatters or bribes him sufficiently, or convinces the hosts of Fox and Friends to speak on their behalf:
https://www.mediamatters.org/donald-trump/comprehensive-review-revolving-door-between-fox-and-second-trump-administration
That would explain why Google capo Sundar Pichai ordered his employees not to speak out against Trump:
https://www.businessinsider.com/google-employees-memes-poke-fun-company-rules-political-discussion-2024-11
And why he followed up by publicly osculating Trump's sphincter:

To everyone who asked, and to everyone who didn't:
Yes. I have somewhere between 1,000 and 2,000 of TwoSet's videos, all in HD quality. LINK BELOW
Earlier this year in 2024, I downloaded every single TwoSet Violin public video from their YouTube and scoured other sites like Bilibili and Facebook to get videos they'd deleted from at least one platform. My goal was to make some fandom compilation videos that'd require going through every video.
I do not have the last few months of 2024 (which I'm kicking myself for... I literally almost did a download update on SUNDAY). But I have almost everything.
2 mil, 3 mil, 4 mil, Fantasia, Hilary Hahn or Ray Chen collabs, Producer Shaun, professional versus beginner, violin charades, that cheeky skit you shared on Facebook in 2016
Their world tour VODs, including my own personal captures of their latest VOD stream
Some of the content from their Facebook kickstarter livestreams that I found from other fans.
I've been collecting all their TikTok videos currently, too. I've downloaded a spattering of their Instagram stories from 2024 and might have a small collection of recent Instagram videos, too.
I do not have everything, but I have a fuckton and I want to share it with as many people as possible, and collaborate with as many people as possible to fill in the missing pieces.
Please contact me if you have your own archives or know people working on other archives. I'm talking with a few people about starting a Google Drive project, but I don't know the big names in the TSV fandom and thus could be missing out on people who've done a lot of other work
It's more likely that this will clear over in the coming days / weeks / month / whatever and we'll have their official channel again. I'm still going to keep believing that. But it doesn't erase the importance of making sure the media we love doesn't become lost media. I have respect for content creators to monitor what does and doesn't stay on their platform, but for the sake of preservation of media, for the sake of helping a community, I want to make sure this archive is in place and widely accessible to TwoSetters.
My current cloud server is VERY MUCH a work in progress. I am in the middle of an extremely busy week and trying to do this around an office job and a half. It will take me time to upload everything, and even more time to organize everything. But the cloud server link is active, and I will keep people updated about the progress of my archiving through a PDF text file (not yet uploaded) in said cloud. If I collaborate with people for Google Drive systems, if I do other backups, I will let people know there and on my other social media accounts.
I am new and naive to Terabox. I started with Terabox because it's free to upload up to a terabyte of content. I think it should be free to download everything in full quality, but I don't know. People should inform me how it works. It's currently -- I'm sorry -- VERY poorly organized and requires Scrolling (TM), but short of that issue (which will be fixed with organization), I hope it gets people what they need.
Also: Reddit has suspended me for a few days lol (really I'm getting a slap on the wrist for how blatantly I was marching about), so if people want to start spreading this link to others in private chats elsewhere with known TwoSetters, the more the merrier! The purpose of this is to be a resource, either short-term or long-term.

JJK MEN & THEIR SLEEPYHEAD GF !
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
featuring. toji fushiguro, yuuta okkotsu, choso x fem! reader
warnings. absolutely nothing
note. anon, first of all, again, i'm so sorry i accidentally put your post up in the queue list when it was unfinished and the pen symbol wasn't there so i screenshotted this before deleting the og post. i hope this post comes to find you by itself :(( second of all, thank you for liking the first part, means a lot to me <33 last of all, hope you enjoy this one!
Tumblr media
TOJI FUSHIGURO. i feel like he's the kind of person who doesn't mind having a sleepyhead gf, in fact he'll gladly sleep with her no matter what time or place. he'll just look and then you're asleep, all of a sudden he's asleep too.
people find it odd how you and him are able to just doze off anywhere, especially toji being a pretty "busy" man. would ditch his work sometimes just to have a nap with you, and i feel like he's the type of guy who would use you like a bolster when you both sleep. so you just lie there, arms by your side — while he on the other hand, is all up on you, holding you close to him.
sometimes toji would chuckle upon seeing you asleep at the most random time and places, in a diner, in a fast food restaurant, in the park standing up (and you woke up because apparently a kid bumped into your leg), just anywhere. he finds your sleepy habit quite interesting really.
"toji... 'm tired."
"when're you not, hm?"
he absolutely loves it when you just clung onto him like a koala for a nap, makes him feel proud (oh and i feel like he's the type of person who would take pictures if you sleep with your mouth open with a string of drool coming out of your mouth, he says that it's adorable. you don't think so though).
YUUTA OKKOTSU. yuuta is just so adorable. i feel like he gushes out a lot when you fall asleep on him, like he will silently fawn over you but at the same time he doesn't know what to do. should he let you be? wake you up so you could sleep in a more comfortable place? or carry you to the said comfortable place?
he just ends up waking you up because of how fidgety he is, "yuuta?"
"i'm so sorry, did i wake you up? sorry.."
honestly, you don't even care about the whole wake up thing. you just wanted to sleep so you always end up latching onto his side like a baby, "five more minutes."
it's never five minutes, longest is twelve hours. although yuuta doesn't mind — he even joins you for a bit, and if he has to go, he will make sure you're tucked in well and comfortable with a pillow fort he built just for you incase something (the monsters comes for you) happens.
CHOSO. i feel like he gets confused at first to why you're always falling asleep near him, he even asked this "Google" to that — and Google did not in fact help, but instead drove him into a state of panic because it told choso that you were dying. so when you fall asleep the next time, choso wakes you up almost immediately.
"don't die on me."
you didn't know what he was talking about and assumed that he was just messing around so you closed your eyes, and he had a full blown breakdown because he thought you were actually dying.
but when you told him it's because you feel safe to sleep near him, he's never been so much happier. and whenever you fall asleep, he always has a blanket ready for you both. so here's how it goes, you fall asleep and lean your head on his shoulder, he drapes the blanket over the both of you, he leans his head onto your head and falls asleep.
you both always end up in such an uncomfortable position after (either with your hand or foot in his face, or vice versa), but you guys never cared, at least the sleep was good.
"cho, get your foot out of my face before i bite them off clean."
"'m sorry, it just happens."
