Tumblr media
I spent the last 11 months working with my illustrator, Marta, to make the children's book of my dreams. We were able to get every detail just the way I wanted, and I'm very happy with the final result. She is the best person I have ever worked with, and I mean, just look at those colors!
Tumblr media
I wanted to tell that story of anyone's who ever felt that they didn't belong anywhere. Whether you are a nerd, autistic, queer, trans, a furry, or some combination of the above, it makes for a sad and difficult life. This isn't just my story. This is our story.
Tumblr media
I also want to say the month following the book's launch has been very stressful. I have never done this kind of book before, and I didn't know how to get the word out about it. I do have a small publishing business and a full-time job, so I figured let's put my some money into advertising this time. Indie writers will tell you great success stories they've had using Facebook ads, so I started a page and boosting my posts.
Within a first few days, I got a lot of likes and shares and even a few people who requested the book and left great reviews for me. There were also people memeing on how the boy turns into a delicious venison steak at the end of the book. It was all in good fun, though. It honestly made made laugh. Things were great, so I made more posts and increased spending.
Tumblr media
But somehow, someway these new posts ended up on the wrong side of the platform. Soon, we saw claims of how the book was perpetuating mental illness, of how this book goes against all of basic biology and logic, and how the lgbtq agenda was corrupting our kids.
Tumblr media
This brought out even more people to support the book, so I just let them at it and enjoyed my time reading comments after work. A few days later, then conversation moved from politics to encouraging bullying, accusing others of abusing children, and a competition to who could post the most cruel image. They were just comments, however, and after all, people were still supporting the book.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then the trolls started organizing. Over night, I got hit with 3 one-star reviews on Amazon. My heart stopped. If your book ever falls below a certain rating, it can be removed, and blocked, and you can receive a strike on your publishing account. All that hard work was about to be deleted, and it was all my fault for posting it in the wrong place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I panicked, pulled all my posts, and went into hiding, hoping things would die down. I reported the reviews and so did many others, but here's the thing you might have noticed across platforms like Google and Amazon. There are community guidelines that I referenced in my email, but unless people are doing something highly illegal, things are rarely ever taken down on these massive platforms. So those reviews are still there to this day. Once again, it's my fault, and I should have seen it coming.
Luckily, the harassment stopped, and the book is doing better now, at least in the US. The overall rating is still rickety in Europe, Canada, and Australia, so any reviews there help me out quite a lot. I'm currently looking for a new home to post about the book and talk about everything that went into it. I also love to talk about all things books if you ever want to chat. Maybe I'll post a selfie one day, too. Otherwise, the book is still on Amazon, and the full story and illustrations are on YouTube as well if you want to read it for free.

An old concept that I'm still feral over, but a Dreamling fic in which the dreamling relationship is chronicled entirely by Yelp reviews of the New Inn.
Reviews are either 5* or 1* with surprisingly little in between, and the business owner replies are always a riot. They start off fairly normal, talking about the food and drink, the couple of guest rooms upstairs, the location and prices etc, but then they start to get weird.
Constantine leaves 3*, beer is shit whiskey is ok not haunted which is more than I can say for most london pubs and the response is Thanks Jo, but you're still banned
4* this place is run by my history professor and it's amazing but he asked me about my overdue essay three times so I can't give it 5* and Hob, who has had multiple students visit the pub for the sole purpose of doing this, is just like you still haven't submitted that, get off yelp and start citing your sources
There are multiple 5* reviews like would give 10* if i could, the owner chased off a neo nazi with a literal sword he pulled out from behind the bar
5* should probably give it less because a couple of times the answers to the history round on the monthly quiz night have been wrong, but otherwise it's a solid little place for a reasonably priced pint and a nice afternoon and Hob's response is just those answers were right
And then Dream comes back and the reviews start... Changing, a bit
One of the 1* reviews is just complaining about the fact that there was a bird at the bar and no one got rid of it and the reply from Hob is that's Matthew, he has a tab. Several of the 5* reviews are also about the fact that sometimes there's a bird in the bar
One of the 5* reviews is saw the most beautiful goth twink in the world, will definitely be going back and Hob nearly deletes that one. The reply instead is that's my boyfriend, unlike Matthew he never pays his tab
5* i have no idea how i got there or found the place because i swaer i was halfway across london from where google maps says it is but anyway the bartender was really great and understandig when I started crying on him, will defiantely go back if reality ever warps like that again. Response from owner: yeah sorry about the reality warping, we don't get it either
1* I only wish I could have given this establishment a glowing review – fabulous service, lovely food and a sumptuous wine I hadn't expected, but unfortunately I had to see my brother's face. Response from owner: Desire get off the internet, it doesn’t need your help

Are Game Blogs Uniquely Lost?
All this started with my looking for the old devlog of Storyteller. I know at some point it was linked from the blogroll on the Braid devlog. Then I tried to look at on old devlog of another game that is still available. The domain for Storyteller is still active. The devblog is gone.
I tried an old bookmark from an old PC (5 PCs ago, I think). It was a web site linked to pixel art and programming tutorials. Instead of linking to the pages directly, some links link led to a twitter threads by authors that collected their work posted on different sites. Some twitter threads are gone because the users were were suspended, or had deleted their accounts voluntarily. Others had deleted old tweets. There was no archive. I have often seen links accompanied by "Here's a thread where $AUTHOR lists all his writing on $TOPIC". I wonder if the sites are still there, and only the tweets are gone.
A lot of "games studies" around 2010 happened on blogs, not in journals. Games studies was online-first, HTML-first, with trackbacks, tags, RSS and comment sections. The work that was published in PDF form in journals and conference proceedings is still there. The blogs are gone. The comment sections are gone. Kill screen daily is gone.
I followed a link from critical-distance.com to a blog post. That blog is gone. The domain is for sale. In the Wayback Machine, I found the link. It pointed to the comment section of another blog. The other blog has removed its comment sections and excluded itself from the Wayback Machine.
I wonder if games stuff is uniquely lost. Many links to game reviews at big sites lead to "page not found", but when I search the game's name, I can find the review from back in 2004. The content is still there, the content management systems have been changed multiple times.
At least my favourite tumblr about game design has been saved in the Wayback Machine: Game Design Tips.
To make my point I could list more sites, more links, 404 but archived, or completely lost, but when I look at small sites, personal sites, blogs, or even forums, I wonder if this is just confirmation bias. There must be all this other content, all these other blogs and personal sites. I don't know about tutorials for knitting, travel blogs, stamp collecting, or recipe blogs. I usually save a print version of recipes to my Download folder.
Another big community is fan fiction. They are like modding, but for books, I think. I don't know if a lot of fan fiction is lost to bit rot and link rot either. What is on AO3 will probably endure, but a lot might have gone missing when communities fandom moved from livejournal to tumblr to twitter, or when blogs moved from Wordpress to Medium to Substack.
I have identified some risk factors:
Personal home pages made from static HTML can stay up for while if the owner meticulously catalogues and links to all their writing on other sites, and if the site covers a variety of interests and topics.
Personal blogs or content management systems are likely to lose content in a software upgrade or migration to a different host.
Writing is more likely to me lost when it's for-pay writing for a smaller for-profit outlet.
A cause for sudden "mass extinction" of content is the move between social networks, or the death of a whole platform. Links to MySpace, Google+, Diaspora, and LiveJournal give me mostly or entirely 404 pages.
In the gaming space, career changes or business closures often mean old content gets deleted. If an indie game is wildly successful, the intellectual property might ge acquired. If it flops, the domain will lapse. When development is finished, maybe the devlog is deleted. When somebody reviews games at first on Steam, then on a blog, and then for a big gaming mag, the Steam reviews might stay up, but the personal site is much more likely to get cleaned up. The same goes for blogging in general, and academia. The most stable kind of content is after hours hobbyist writing by somebody who has a stable and high-paying job outside of media, academia, or journalism.
The biggest risk factor for targeted deletion is controversy. Controversial, highly-discussed and disseminated posts are more likely to be deleted than purely informative ones, and their deletion is more likely to be noticed. If somebody starts a discussion, and then later there are hundreds of links all pointing back to the start, the deletion will hurt more and be more noticeable. The most at-risk posts are those that are supposed to be controversial within a small group, but go viral outside it, or the posts that are controversial within a small group, but then the author says something about politics that draws the attention of the Internet at large to their other writings.
The second biggest risk factor for deletion is probably usefulness combined with hosting costs. This could also be the streetlight effect at work, like in the paragraph above, but the more traffic something gets, the higher the hosting costs. Certain types of content are either hard to monetise, and cost a lot of money, or they can be monetised, so the free version is deliberately deleted.
The more tech-savvy users are, the more likely they are to link between different sites, abandon a blogging platform or social network for the next thing, try to consolidate their writings by deleting their old stuff and setting up their own site, only to let the domain lapse. The more tech-savvy users are, the more likely they are to mess with the HTML of their templates or try out different blogging software.
If content is spread between multiple sites, or if links link to social network posts that link to blog post with a comment that links to a reddit comment that links to a geocities page, any link could break. If content is consolidated in a forum, maybe Archive team could save all of it with some advance notice.
All this could mean that indie games/game design theory/pixel art resources are uniquely lost, and games studies/theory of games criticism/literary criticism applied to games are especially affected by link rot. The semi-professional, semi-hobbyist indie dev, the writer straddling the line between academic and reviewer, they seem the most affected. Artists who start out just doodling and posting their work, who then get hired to work on a game, their posts are deleted. GameFAQs stay online, Steam reviews stay online, but dev logs, forums and blog comment sections are lost.
Or maybe it's only confirmation bias. If I was into restoring old cars, or knitting, or collecting stamps, or any other thing I'd think that particular community is uniquely affected by link rot, and I'd have the bookmarks to prove it.
Figuring this out is important if we want to make predictions about the future of the small web, and about the viability of different efforts to get more people to contribute. We can't figure it out now, because we can't measure the ground truth of web sites that are already gone. Right now, the small web is mostly about the small web, not about stamp collecting or knitting. If we really manage to revitalise the small web, will it be like the small web of today except bigger, the web-1.0 of old, or will certain topics and communities be lost again?

Switching to Firefox
Tumblr media
This post is to answer @leaveblackkbrosalone’s question on my post about me switching to Firefox!
I recently had an eye opener moment when researching about Google and how they collect data to alter the things they recommend you and other things. And it was astonishing how much data they collect on you and how they track you every movement whilst on Google/Chrome/Other Google services e.g. Google PlayStore.
I truly believe there are better alternatives out there than the default Google Chrome people tend to use. We now live in world of constant data breaches and online tracking, therefore protecting your online privacy and security has never been more important.
I’ve recently deleted Chrome from my phone and computer and switched to FireFox and I’ll explain why~!
Tumblr media
What is Firefox?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Firefox is the famous fox web browser! It is a free and open-source that is developed by the Mozilla Foundation. It's designed to be fast, secure, and customizable, and is available for multiple operating systems, including Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Firefox includes a suite of built-in features, such as enhanced tracking protection, custom themes (so important obviously) and add-ons, and a flexible interface that can be tailored to the user's needs.
Why Firefox and not Google Chrome?
There are a bunch of reasons why I chose to delete Google Chrome and why I prefer FireFox now, let me list some:
Privacy
Firefox has a strong focus on privacy and security, with features like built-in tracking protection and a strict anti-tracking policy.
In contrast, Chrome is owned by Google, a company that relies heavily on data collection and advertising for its business model.
Customisation
Firefox has a much more flexible and customizable interface than Chrome, with a wide range of add-ons (equivalent to Chrome’s ‘extensions’ I believe) and themes available to personalize your browsing experience.
Open-source
Firefox is an open-source project, meaning that anyone can contribute to its development and review the code for security issues.
Chrome, on the other hand, is based on the Chromium project, which is also open-source but is controlled by Google.
Cross-platform compatibility
Firefox works on a wide range of devices and operating systems, including Windows, Mac, Linux, and mobile devices.
Chrome is also available on multiple platforms, but it's more heavily integrated with Google's services and ecosystem.
Performance
Firefox has made significant improvements in recent years and is now a competitive browser in terms of speed and efficiency.
Still, Chrome is known for its fast performance
Community-driven
Firefox is developed by the non-profit Mozilla Foundation, which has a strong focus on user empowerment and community involvement. This means that Firefox users have a voice in the development process and can contribute to the browser's future direction.
With all of that being said, there is one particular area that caught my eye that I mentioned briefly: the Privacy and Security.
Firefox’s Privacy and Security Advantages
Firefox definitely has advantages in these areas than Google Chrome surprisingly!
Enhanced Tracking Protection
Firefox includes built-in tracking protection that blocks many common types of trackers by default, including
third-party cookies, cryptominers, and fingerprinters
This helps to protect your online privacy and reduce the amount of data that's collected about you. Below are the options for the 'Enhance Tracking Protection' in the settings:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
No Google Tracking
Oh boy, I like this one. So unlike Chrome, which is owned by Google and ties into its advertising and data collection ecosystem, Firefox is developed by the non-profit Mozilla Foundation and has no affiliation with Google or any other major tech company. This means that Firefox is less likely to collect and share your data with third parties.
No Sign-In Required
While Chrome requires you to sign in with a Google account to access certain features, Firefox does not require any sign-in at all. This means that you can still use Firefox without creating a user profile or linking your browsing activity to any personal information -
Don’t get me wrong, if you want to use the Google search engine WITHIN FireFox, it might still prompt you to sign in but you still don’t have to! Also, the choice is there to create an account just to sync bookmarks and tab from one device to another e.g. phone to laptop.
Tumblr media
Private Browsing Mode
(Another very important part!) Firefox offers a Private Browsing mode that doesn't save your browsing history, cookies, or temporary files. This can be useful for browsing sensitive content or preventing others from seeing what you've been looking at.
Firefox's Private Browsing mode offers a more robust set of features for privacy and security than Google’s Incognito mode. Within the ‘Settings’, you can customise your privacy settings more extensively than Google Chrome. You can choose to block all third-party cookies, prevent websites from accessing your location data, and clear your browsing history and data automatically when you close the browser.
Google's Incognito mode does not block all cookies or prevent all forms of tracking.
Open-Source Security
Like I mentioned before, Firefox is an open-source project, meaning that anyone can review the code and contribute to its development. This helps to ensure that security vulnerabilities are identified and addressed quickly, and that the browser remains as secure as possible. You too can find something and report it to the repository via creating an issue!
Tumblr media
To Conclude
Of course, these are just some general reasons why you might prefer Firefox over Chrome, and the choice ultimately comes down to personal preference and priorities. I know with developers, they would prefer Chrome for the dev tools and I think it’s almost a standard to use Chrome (though at my workplace we use Microsoft Edge), anyhoo Google is just a default for web browsing and search engine. I also know it’s hard if you have a whole Google ecosystem set up like Google docs to Sheet to Slides, emails, calendar etc, you can still use them but on a safer browser.
I would also recommend using ‘DuckDuckGo’ for a search engine as they too are really good with security and privacy but as a search engine (plus on their phone app they have a cool animation when you want to delete you browsing data from the tabs hehe)!
Links to interesting pages for more information on this topic:
YouTube videos: video 1 | video 2 | video 3 | video 4
Articles: article 1 | article 2 | article 3
I’d say give it a go, if you don’t like it I still recommend anything but Google Chrome! Well, that’s all and thank you for reading! 🥰👍🏾💗

[CN] Shaw's Leave and Go Date
⚡ This post contains detailed spoiler's for a Date which hasn't released in EN yet!⚡
Tumblr media
[This was translated with the help of Google translate and by my friend!]
✧[Part 1]✧
Tumblr media
MC: No, it's not right here either…
I held down the delete button and let the screen full of text fly backwards and clear.
Recently, [MC Company's name] was bidding for the right to host the opening ceremony of an international event. For this reason, we put in a lot of effort but in the end we failed...
I was a little reluctant to miss such an important project, so I planned to review it during this long-awaited weekend.
I sighed as I watched my frown on the empty screen.
At that moment, there was a hot, wet touch on my leg. I lowered my head and saw a furry head against my leg, licking me lightly.
MC: Beanie, did the keyboard sound wake you up?
[T/N]: The pet name is “豆豆” means “bean bean” so I'll name it as “beanie”!
It seems to be comfortable to touch, its head slowly slides down, and the hair between its belly also rises and falls quietly with its breathing.
Beanie is a Labrador that a director friend fostered at my house before he went on a business trip.
It isn’t noisy, it’s much better behaved than the last foster pet, Spicy Stick, and sometimes I feel that it's a little sullen…
[T/N]: Spicy Stick appeared in the first pet date series!
It's not that you miss your master too much, right?
Just as I was thinking, a doorbell cut through the silence. I glanced at the time and estimated that Shaw should be here.
MC: Come Beanie, let's meet an interesting big brother〜
I hurriedly stepped off the sofa, stomped my foot, and signaled Beanie to follow. With a sharp stomp, it finally lifted its head and jumped down.
Tumblr media
As soon as I opened the door, Shaw was leaning on the side.
Tumblr media
Shaw: What are you, a turtle? You're so slow to open the door.
MC: ...Beanie, bite him!
Beanie casually wiggled its ears, glanced at Shaw, then walked in circles with its paws before laying down on its stomach.
MC: …….
Tumblr media
Shaw: This dog is interesting, nothing like you.
Shaw: Doesn’t like to bite.
I was about to glare at him when he leaned over and looked straight at me.
MC: …what?
Tumblr media
Shaw: What else can I do? I haven't seen you for so long, so of course I have to take a good look at you.
Shaw: But have you been busy lately, why do you look so bad?
MC: Huh, do I?
The next second, he raised his eyebrows and flicked my forehead.
Tumblr media
Shaw: How are you gonna take care of the dog when you can't even take care of yourself?
Tumblr media
✧[Part 2]✧
I didn't want to be fussy with him, so I dragged him inside.
MC: Yes, yes, yes, so isn’t this why I "invited" you here?
Hearing me deliberately emphasize the word, he closed his eyes with satisfaction.
Tumblr media
Shaw: It's all right, don't forget the ten hot pot meals you owe me.
Shaw: But that's just the price of taking care of the pet, if you want me to take care of you, you have to at least—
I hurriedly pinched his palm.
MC: I don't need you to take care of me, I will recover after a few more days of sleep, so I won't give you a chance to start raising prices!
Shaw: All right, don’t be fooled.
Shaw: It seems that next time I have to change to a fresh trick.
He casually stopped, leaned over and scratched Beanie's head lightly. But it just raised its eyelids and closed them again.
Tumblr media
Shaw: …Is it so listless every day?
MC: Well, I obviously prepared his favorite canned food and toys, but he wasn't interested in them.
I pointed aside to the bell ball and teething stick, which should have had wet drool stuck to them, and were now lying neatly on the floor.
MC: But it seems that you played well with Spicy Stick last time, so the important task of getting Beanie to cheer up is entrusted to you.
MC: But let me say this in advance that if you fail, the ten hot pots in the deal won't count!
Shaw: You don't want to suffer at all.
Shaw glanced at me, picked up the bell ball and tapped it on Beanie's paw.
Shaw: Hey, get up and play a game.
Beanie lifted his eyelids when he heard the voice, and only after a while did he reluctantly support himself and look at Shaw with his front paws folded.
Shaw didn't seem to care about its indifferent reaction. He raised his forearm and the bell ball was thrown up and down.
Beanie didn’t move at all, only his round eyes followed the rotation of the ball, as if coping.
Tumblr media
Shaw: …Are you tired of playing?
As a final confirmation, he threw it forward. The ball bounced a few times on the ground, and rolled quietly towards the wall.
During the whole process, Beanie remained indifferent, his chin pressed against his front paws and looked at us silently.
I pursed my lips, patting him on the shoulders with an air of experience.
MC: ...Don't be discouraged. I've had a few times when I've thrown toys at him and he's done the same.
Shaw: Who said I was discouraged?
He smiled and tapped Beanie's nose.
Tumblr media
Shaw: Your name is Beanie, right? Look, not all cats and dogs have this treatment.
Shaw: But this trick works every time.
He confidently spread out his palm, and a cluster of blue-purple lightning hung overhead, flashing sparks, and fine fireworks were reflected in Beanie’s eyes.
Soon, the cluster of lightning started to move, jumping up and down nimbly in the sunlight, looking very cute.
MC: Wow, look at this, Beanie!
I stretched out my fingertips and followed the electric light slowly, glancing at Beanie from time to time to observe its reaction.
But it just lifted its head and rubbed my leg.
Tumblr media
Shaw: …..
Shaw: Your dog is so boring. Not interested in "fireworks"?
Shaw: You should know that the school's King of the Mountain*, and the one next to you has all given high praise.
[T/N]: Reference from Shaw’s second pet date! King of the Mountain is a black cat which was living at Shaw’s campus!
Maybe it was because he was standing in the backlight, his face was extraordinarily "gloomy", and the corners of his lips were tensed into a straight line.
Seeing his rarely "defeated” look, I laughed.
MC: It seems that your fireworks is just like that, not having much effect〜
Tumblr media
Shaw: Oh? Who stupidly reached out and touched it when they first saw it?
[T/N]: Reference from Shaw’s first birthday date!
Shaw raised his eyebrows, as if he wanted to "settle the score", but I couldn't help laughing loudly.
At the same time, there was a tickling sensation around my legs. I lowered my head, and Beanie's tail wagged widely from side to side, and seemed to stick its tongue out at me happily…
I blinked and poked Shaw's shoulder lightly.
MC: Why don't you have a few more defeats? Beanie seems to prefer to see you embarrassed~
Shaw: ……
I thought I would be mocked, but his expression converged for a few moments, gazing back and forth between Beanie and me.
After a while, he suddenly smiled.
Tumblr media
Shaw: I know how to cheer it up.
MC: Huh?
Shaw: Hang around for a while and you'll know.
He spoke so mysteriously that I couldn't help but feel my heart flutter, but I also thought that there were still bidding documents in my hand that hadn't been reviewed yet...
MC: Why don't you take it out to play, I still have some work to do. I’ll join you later?
Shaw: Didn't you say that it was over two days ago?
MC: It's over......Oops, you guys go ahead!
Thinking that one or two sentences weren’t enough to explain, I simply pushed Shaw's shoulder to go outside.
But he turned sideways and avoided my palm.
Tumblr media
Shaw: Does it have to be today?
MC: No…
Shaw: Is that document saved?
He interrupted me and asked a question that was a bit off.
MC: I set up a regular backup, the document will be automatically saved every minute...
Before I finished speaking, there was a soft sound in the air, and the lights above my head went out.
I looked around in a daze, and found that the indicator lights of all the electrical appliances were off, so I looked at Shaw belatedly.
MC: Shaw, you…
I don't know when, he was already holding Beanie's leash in his hand and then grabbed my hand and walked towards the door.
Tumblr media
Shaw: The electricity won't be able to recover in an hour and a half.
Shaw: Just follow me.
Tumblr media
✧[Part 3]✧
Tumblr media
After walking out of the gate of the community, Shaw stopped and turned to look at me.
Tumblr media
Shaw: Tell me, where do you most want to go right now?
MC: Didn't you want to take Beanie out to relax? Why do you ask me...?
Shaw looked at Beanie at my feet and sneered casually.
Shaw: That stupid dog can't say anything, so I might as well ask someone a little smarter.
MC: I see you haven’t thought about where to go.
Having said that, an idea popped into my head.
MC: I remember Beanie's owner said that he likes to watch the sea.
MC: Originally, I planned to take it out next weekend, but now that Beanie has come out… why not choose another day?
Shaw raised his eyebrows. His eyes flashed with emotions that I couldn't understand.
Tumblr media
Shaw: Looking at the sea. What about you, do you like it?
MC: I like it, I feel relieved when I watch the sea.
Shaw: Okay, let's go, then.
Tumblr media
An hour later, we got out of the taxi and walked leisurely on the plank road by the sea.
On the other side of the plank road, the whole sea is spread out, and layers of waves roll on the soft, fine sand.
Tumblr media
Shaw: How is it, are you feeling better?
I stopped at the sound and found that Shaw's gaze was falling from Beanie to me.
For a while, I couldn't tell who he was asking…
Shaw: What are you looking at, don't you want to watch the sea to relax?
As he spoke, he held my shoulders and turned me towards the sea, and the voice continued to come from behind.
Tumblr media
Shaw: And you, don't cling to her every day, be independent.
Shaw: After finally coming to the beach, of course we have to have fun before going back.
He crouched down, took out a bell ball from his pocket and threw it in front of Beanie.
MC: You even brought the toy?
Tumblr media
Shaw: Of course. Everything needs to be embellished for them to be interesting.
Seeing that Beanie finally fiddled with the bell ball twice, I was slightly relieved and turned to look at the sea.
On the sparkling sea, waves wrapped in foam burst on the reefs one after another, bringing a cool and refreshing feeling.
But this refreshment did not go straight to the bottom of my heart. Instead, I couldn't help but think about the failure of the bid.
I missed such an important project, what I need now is to sum up the experience and learn from it, not to relax…
I sighed quietly as remorse and anguish wove their way through my heart. However, the next moment, my cheek was pinched by a warm force and tugged from side to side.
Tumblr media
Shaw: It's not like you to be so lethargic after a few weeks.
Shaw: I think that stupid dog is stronger than you.
At this time, Beanie seemed to understand something, bit the bell ball and shook his head randomly.
I glanced at Shaw next to me and patted his hand away angrily.
MC: What do you know? Stay out of adults' affairs.
Seeming to pick up on my pretentious tone, a snort came in my ear.
Tumblr media
Shaw: OK, I don't understand.
Shaw: But I prefer to care.
The frivolity in his eyes became particularly dazzling under the bright sun, which touched my heart inexplicably for a while.
I moved a step towards him without a trace and tightened the railing in my hand.
MC: Actually, it's my own problem... It's the project that I told you I was busy with, but it didn't succeed in the bidding.
Shaw: Are you listless because of this?
MC: Can't I be frustrated by this?
What responded to me was a crisp muffled sound on my forehead. I covered my head in pain and stared at Shaw through my fingers.
The playfulness in his eyes has been curtailed for a few moments, leaving behind that pure flair.
Tumblr media
Shaw: Of course not.
Shaw: If you were to put in the same amount of energy as me, perhaps nothing will beat you.
Shaw: Why do you have to be "invincible" in front of me, and easily get discouraged at work?
MC: Who said I...uh!
Before I finished speaking, he placed his fingers on my cheeks and directed my face towards the ocean.
Shaw: Don't scold me, scold the sea.
Tumblr media
✧[Part 4]✧
The warmth from my cheeks intertwined with the tide repeatedly. I opened my mouth, and I couldn't say anything that was already stuck in my throat.
Shaw seemed to sense this subtlety and arrogantly took a step closer, bullying his way up to my ear.
Tumblr media
Shaw: Is it true that you can only display that energy of baring your teeth and claws when you are in front of me?
MC: Hmph, I obviously don't want to argue with you…
Shaw tutted lightly, leaned over and rubbed Beanie's head.
Tumblr media
Shaw: Tell your master in the future, next time you want to board, don't come to her.
Shaw: Stupidity is contagious, you know?
Hearing the staged tone of his words, I hammered him in exasperation.
MC: Shaw! I'm asking you to help Beanie cheer up, not to give it an earful!
MC: If this happens again, I will issue an ultimatum. If there is no effect before dark, ten hot pot meals will be canceled.
Shaw: Who says it didn’t cheer up? Watch it.
Shaw smiled casually, and a cluster of electric lights appeared in his palm.
MC: ...Haven't you used this trick?
Before I could finish my words, the cluster of electric sparks came to Beanie. As the lights flickered, the short hair on its body stood up suddenly, and a flower "exploded".
MC: Pff…!
It seems I’ve laughed too suddenly, Beanie reacted by lifting its tail. Along with the static electricity, it turned into a green foxtail.
[T/N] Green foxtail is a type of plant!
MC: Hahaha Beanie, you look so stupid ~
Tumblr media
Shaw: Is it so funny? So…
As he trailed off, the electric flower turned and flew towards me. I immediately regained my senses and dodged to the side.
MC: You, you stop!
Shaw: I don’t want to.
MC: Then let's become dandelions together!
Seeing that the electric flower was close at hand, I hugged Shaw tightly and pressed my head against him.
He didn't seem to expect me to do this and his body was slightly stunned.
The ball of electric sparks flew to the top of my head before I had time to stop. My scalp was numb, and the ends of my hair had already risen.
I raised my head, and a few locks of Shaw's hair also exploded in the air silently. But in the next moment, the tingling sensation on the top of the head disappeared.
Tumblr media
Shaw: …tsk, your reaction was pretty quick today.
MC: Hahaha, this is called having high aims, but failing! And you just look like a hedgehog— oh…
I couldn't stop laughing, and the boredom of the past few days seemed to dissipate quietly with the laughter.
Beanie: Woof! Woof!
At this moment, Beanie wagged his tail and ran in front of me, and called out twice in a good mood.
I reached out and stroked the fur that had just exploded.
MC: Beanie, you are laughing at him too, right?
It barked a few more times in agreement, then got more excited and circled around us.
Tumblr media
Shaw: Happy?
Shaw rubbed Beanie's head. Immediately after, it grabbed onto Shaw's knee and frantically sniffed around.
Shaw: All right, all right, you're too happy.
Beanie couldn't seem to stop, and jumped on my lap again, rubbing his wet nose on my arm.
Seeing its sudden change in appearance, I could not help but look at Shaw, but found that he also raised his eyebrows in a wanton manner.
Tumblr media
Shaw: It seems that the task has been completed, and the ten hot pot meals can be remembered.
MC: Huh…?
Seeing that I was still a little confused, he casually flicked my nose.
Tumblr media
Shaw: Haven't you discovered that it was like this because of you?
Shaw: You must know that dogs understand human emotions best. If you are unhappy, it will of course be affected.
I was stunned, remembering that when Beanie temporarily lived in my house, I had been busy with work…
Except for regularly taking it for a walk twice a day, it spends the rest of the time anxiously facing work.
Especially after the bid failed, I completely stayed at home to reflect, but it stayed by my side from beginning to end.
Looking at Beanie who was still wagging his tail at me, a burst of sourness surged in my heart, and I reached out and hugged him.
But it doesn't seem to know what this sudden hug means, and it burrows into my arms while breathing heavily.
MC: Sorry Beanie, I made you worry about me.
Beanie moved his ears and looked up at me, his round eyes filled with only me.
Soon, it sticks out its soft tongue again and licks my arm, as it has done countless days and nights before.
Bang, bang –
In the distance, a crackling sound like fireworks sounded behind me, and Beanie in my arms grabbed my shoulder and shouted.
I turned my head in surprise and saw clusters of pale pink fireworks blooming in the sky in the distance.
Even in the bright sunlight, it still did not lose its color, burning enthusiastically.
MC: Shaw, look, there are fireworks during the day. It seems that there was something going on at the beach today.
Shaw: Such big fireworks can be seen without shouting.
There seemed to be a smile hidden in his tone, and then he hugged the excited Beanie up to the railing and rubbed its head indiscriminately.
Tumblr media
Shaw: So you guys like fireworks.
Shaw: It seems that the one I showed you in the morning wasn't big enough, and I will show you something more powerful than this when I have a chance next time.
MC: Forget it, if there is really such a big electric shock, be careful that the Loveland City Electric Power Bureau will settle accounts with you!
Shaw: Then we have to know it.
Tumblr media
Immediately afterwards, he took off the sunglasses that were stuck in my hair and put them on Beanie's face.
Shaw: Children shouldn't look directly at the strong light for a long time, wear it well.
Beanie didn't resist, and continued to stick out his tongue to look at the daytime fireworks in the air.
The sound of fireworks and the waves echoed each other. Looking at the fireworks in Shaw's eyes, some emotions in my heart also crackled and drummed.
MC: Shaw, after going through today, I’ve come to realize something. Some people actually have something in common with Beanie.
MC: They'll always accompany me.
Shaw seemed to be enjoying himself. He smiled and bent down to be at eye level with me.
Tumblr media
Shaw: You are half right.
Shaw: But I’m not as dumb as the dog, companion isn’t always the best option.
Shaw: Making a change is the only way.
Boom — another burst of fireworks cut through the sky in the distance.
And in my heart, there was a small cluster of fireworks that bloomed silently.
🐾 Call and moments (coming soon)

I saw your vivziepop post and I was wondering if you could tell me or drop a link as to where I can read the stuff you mentioned because my search skills are lacking and I can't find it (I'm not accusing you or anything I genuinely want to read to educate myself). Thanks in advance.
No problem. Also thanks to @theoddest1 and @chaifootsteps for also handling this info so maturely and not minding the @s. I'm sorry I included you, rockanroller. I just knew you're making a big document on all the Spindlehorse discourse but I probably should hav eshot you a dm asking if you were including anything about the wiki rather than @ing you.
As to your question, well it seems like most of the Bad Webcomics Wiki has been scrubbed of a lot of it's content. The review page for Zoophobia is easy enough to find w google, but a lot of external links don't show up because I think Viv deleted them all.
I was able to find the forum threads for Zoophobia and Hazbin respectively, though I think the nasty rape art user is gone and I think Lincar Rox (his alias was The Toy Taker) was also banned from the Hazbin discussion. I'm a little busy and haven't been able to comb through all 200 pages of either threads for complete tea myself. You can def find the creepy angel dust r@pe pic on VivziePop's encyclopedia dramatica page which Chair linked to once (the ED page, not the creepy art).
As for things like Viv and Gooseworx acoknowledging the abusive art, that was on a tumblr post from their blogs (I can't access Viv's cause it's password protected) long ago. No idea if Gooseworx's blog is still around. I think Kendraw was aware of it when it happened but best not to bother them about it if they don't have the details.
I'm sorry all I have is basic "look it up yourself"+half links+heresay on my part. I'm not the best at snooping myself so it's hard to get the complete receipt trail. But yeah I would really like the facts on this matter unearthed for people to see and decide for themselves and also have it not be used against anyone. I can only tell you I was there when all this drama was fresh as I've been a fan of Viv since 2009 and thus following the drama that transpired in the indie webcomic space. I also, independently of my Vivziepop fix, went through my own reader of BWW phase where I would religiously look through their reviews on the wiki for snark on da comics I knew, which is again why I was so surprised to see Zoophobia even on there.

What is the best way to remove Complaints from Google search results?
Online reputation is absolutely vital for people and organizations given the cut throat competition all around. That said, online negative remarks and complaints could greatly influence people's impressions of you or your business. This is where to maintain your reputation; you must learn how to remove complaints from Google search results.
Tumblr media
Why Would Google Search Results Show Complaints?
Whether just or unfair, negative comments can discourage possible clients, consumers, or even businesses. Someone might get a bad impression if they search your name or firm and come across unfavorable remarks or complaints. Also, this can affect your general reputation, personal contacts, and future opportunities.
Methodologies to remove complaints from Google Search Results
Here is a thorough recommendations on how to remove negative comments from Google:
Point out the source.
You first must find the source of the bad reviews or complaints. Among them are:
Customer review websites
Social media channels
Blog posts
News stories forums
The best approach to eliminate or minimize the negative content depends on knowing exactly where it comes from.
Review the Legitimacy of the Complaint.
Not every complaint can be dismissed. Should the complaint be valid, your best course of action could be to forward it straight to the individual who posted it. Sometimes fixing their problem results in their voluntarily removing or updating their negative feedback.
Speak with the website owner.
Speak with the owner or webmaster of the website if you think the complaint is obsolete, untrue, or irrelevant. You should follow these guidelines:
Seek for contact details on the webpage
Send a courteous email outlining the reasons the material should be deleted
Offer any proof to back up your demand, including corrected problems, false information, or defamatory materials.
Apply Google's Legal Removal Requests.
Google has a procedure for deleting illegal content like copyright infringements or defamatory remarks. To leverage this choice:
Visit Google Legal Help page
Choose the kind of problem—legal, personal, etc.? defamation, etc.?
Complete the required forms including thorough information and send them for inspection.
Should your request be valid, Google might take the link off of its search engine output.
Utilize the Google Search Console.
Google Search Console lets you de-index the particular page if you run the website where the complaint is submitted (or have administrative access). Here's the method:
See Google Search Console to confirm ownership of your site
Ask Google to remove the particular URL from their index using the URL Removal Tool
This program stops the content from showing up in Google search results but does not delete it from the internet.
Pursue online reputation management (ORM).
Sometimes, even with your best efforts, it could not be possible to remove consumer complaints from Google search results. Under such circumstances, give these ORM ideas some thought:
Post positive news, blog posts, press releases, and social media updates to drive down the negative information lower on search results
Improve your website and positive content so search engines may rank them higher than the negative reviews.
Track online references of your name or company to quickly handle problems.
Hire a Professional Service Agent
should the matter be complicated or you lack the time to handle it on your own, think about consulting a professional online reputation management company. These businesses have particular expertise in:
Skills to remove company complaints from google search engines
Google search engine removal of corporate complaints.
Reducing the effect of unfavorable remarks
To enhance your online reputation, they apply SEO, legal action, and negotiations with website owners among other strategies.
Act professionally.
Should it prove impossible to remove the content, one should answer the complaint professionally instead. This is how:
Respectfully and directly address the problem
If relevant, provide an apology or a resolution.
Present your dedication to openness and client service.
Sometimes a well-written response can help to minimize the damage and even make a bad situation favorable.
Take advantage of social media.
Social networking sites including LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter let you shape the story about your brand. Post regularly positive content, interact with your readers, and professionally and quickly resolve any issues raised by them.
Ask for Reviews
You can also ask your happy consumers to post good online reviews in your efforts to remove negative comments from google. That said, strong presence of positive evaluations helps to lessen the effect of any negative remarks.
Final words
Though it is difficult, the process to remove company complaints from google search engines is not impossible. Following the above mentioned guidelines will help you to properly control and enhance your online reputation. The secret is to be aggressive and tenacious regardless of your preferred course of action—direct addressing, legal channels, content optimization, or professional hiring. Do know that your online reputation is quite valuable; so, it is imperative to take action to protect it. On the other side, knowing how to delete consumer complaints from Google helps you to guarantee that your business or personal reputation stays professional and good.

the EU has strict laws about data safety and privacy that applies to all companies doing business in the EU :D
but they decided to make exceptions for american companies and let them send our data overseas D:
but only if they are certified to be safe! i can't find out what the criteria for cetification are but.. you can trust the certification because the EU said so! :D
as for the american national intelligence agencies, they're allowed to take the data if it is conssidered "reasonable" D:
but they established a court called the Data Protection Review Court which can review the usa national intelligence activities and order them to delete data if they rule that it was not justified to get! :D
but the court is an american court and thus subject to american corruption and the political power of the nsa and cia to do whatever the fuck they want. D:
(also not like an order to delete data would bother them much since they can just lie and say that they did. not like anyone can actually check.)
basically: DSGVO is very nice but it won't help you if the company is american. or uses american services, such as google, for account creation for example. which most apps do. :/

fb+/meta or whatever is one severely unfunny joke. i know i am mostly a hater of social media, but i don't see how threads is going to be better for usability and reach. especially given how shit numbers are on IG (i get more noted "per capita" of followers on tumblr and twitter for untagged posts). i already made a small thread of zucc apps being shit which I'll copy paste here. i don't know how people are thinking threads is going to be better than any of the twitter alternatives when it's most likely the WORST option out there. anyway-
the reason why the other twit replacement apps aren't as insidious as threads (zucc/fb owned) should be obvious, but i'll list some things:
• infamously on zucc platforms you can get reported for saying "white people" which is why so many of us say yt now (a bit of poc social media history for u from the 2010s)
• private messages are sold/given to police no warrant: this could be anything used against you, could be protest info, where you've been, etc.
• right wing propaganda/misinfo is lucrative for facebook. this is something that heavily affects the global south btw.
• they lie about views and growth for business accounts to keep you on their platform. the case i know best is that they inflated college humor's analytics to compete w youtube. this resulted in so many businesses throwing money and labour at facebook w out much return.
also zucc sucks, he's pure evil... like u don't need me to get into *that* hopefully
addition:
omg 🙄 so shocked 🙄 that zucc is further propelling nazism on his latest app that has the exact same content moderation as all his other fucking apps lol 🙄 who would have guessed ?
Far-right figures, including Nazi supporters, anti-gay extremists, and white supremacists, are flocking to Threads (Media Matters)
Adding sources:
Point 1 - i can't find any formal articles that document the particular insidiousness of this, but I and many others who were in BIPOC only "leftbook" groups had either our accounts or groups we joined completely nerfed for using language against white people. hubs that had been for info dissemination, discussing theory, and organizing were marked as hate speech or reported by white reactionaries (even "leftist" ones)
Point 2 - Has been apparent since Michael Brown's murder by police in 2014 and the protests following, but was esp apparent in protest following George Floyd's murder and subsequent protests.
FBI trawled Facebook to arrest protesters for inciting riots, court records show (NBC News)
Point 3 Links - Facebook Admits It Was Used to Incite Violence in Myanmar (NY Times) | Whistleblower: Facebook is misleading the public on progress against hate speech, violence, misinformation (CBS) | How Facebook and Google fund global misinformation (MIT Tech Review)
Link for point 4 - Adam Conover talking about College Humor's inflated FB numbers (plus many other articles have been written about this)
more on the privacy shit - sex workers who have used fb AND ig on burner emails with fake names, had their emails and real names auto linked bcuz of how much a little bit of information goes. how fucked up is that.
How Facebook Outs Sex Workers
BTW i have been preaching this for years but if you want to learn why our internet is fucked up, learn about what happened with net neutrality cases in the US, and then later, SESTA FOSTA (primarily targetting sex workers but is the reason why everything is censored now). ppl online have been warning everyone about this for years, but you are just now experiencing the consequences. but again, nobody listens to things that target primarily sex workers.
plus from a functional standpoint, if you want to delete your threads account, your instagram is deleted as well. like it really doesn't seem worth it for people who are desperate to find the social media that will stick. i don't have anything nice to say about any of the other social medias except that some Mastodon instances do a great job at keeping nazi's out and using alt text, but the bar is extremely low and everybody else is even lower ^_^

This will be a long post. There are a lot of disparate but interconnected thoughts. i want to talk about ads.
The main core of my thoughts is this: All internet advertising must have a hide & do not show me again option. This should be a human right and absolutely inalienable. more below
the internet was supposed to add to and improve human life. If the internet is to become a necessity to conduct ones life, i.e. for banking, bills and proving identity, advertising has to have its priority de-escalated. the internet must serve people first and make money second. it is now a utility, yet its access is treated as a luxury. because it does not provide something physical and tangible like water or electrical current, instead providing access to the human network of information and exchange, it is seen as optional. sure, you cannot eat or drink internet to stay alive, but you need it to pay your water bill or buy groceries or apply for a job in society as it exists right now.
It isn't enough to have "ad preferences" because they are more often than not just flat out ignored and require handing over more personal info to activate, to then just be ignored anyway. People would self select what they don't want to see and in doing so, only allow ads that are benign, or even, heaven forbid, actually relevant to them. for example, i dont want gambling ads. gambling does not appear as a specific topic in google, or metas, ad personalisation menus. nor is it specifically searchable. it is deliberately obfuscated. if i had a serious problem with gambling, i feel i would have no choice other than to delete my accounts entirely to avoid the topic. sure, you "might" see "fewer" ads of these topics of you disable ad personalisation, but why the weasel words? Might? fewer? not fucking good enough. Will and none. No excuses. All ads and their servings are tracked in order to change advertisers per impression, dont play fucking coy. it can work the opposite way, and if google & others are going to insist on persistently tracking people and what they see in the name of ad revenue, they can fucking well track what they dont want to see at the same time. thats just the cost of doing business.
Attitude to ads is hostility. almost all websites are entirely unusable or intolerable without some form of ad blocker. increased take-up of ad blockers as intensified the density of ads on websites, creating a vicious cycle of intensification that, in the end, only punishes the users who tolerated ads in the first place. is this really what all this was supposed to lead to? websites bloated with megabytes worth of trackers and analytics to convert decimal percentage points into, like sales? of who the fuck cares? fucking really? adblockers aren't stealing away business. they make the internet usable and palatable to human decency. they give agency and respect back to people.
people are so absolutely exhausted of being advertised to. ad campaigns are becoming more inidious, sticking their tendrils in to ever deeper layers of the human condition to pierce through the last layer of advertising numbness that they themselves created. any and all attemepts to "organically" market anything are now so blatantly obvious because any method that is even remotely respectful to human beings has now been discarded as ineffective, and only the insidious remain. testimonials are useless. reviews meaningless. any human element is suspect. advertisers do not trust consumers to make decisions, consumers do not trust any more, period.
Anyone who plays video games knows about ("micro")transactions. (I refuse to call them microtransactions. there is nothing "micro" about them. they are additional transactions. they are purchases. all purchases are monetary exchanges whether they are $5.99, $59.99, or $599.99. they all use the same valid legal tender. purchasing groceries is not a list of "micro"transactions. using the prefix "micro-" is a deliberate psychological trick to shrink their significance. I digress.) the function to hide and never show an ad should obviously also extend to games. i meant ALL internet advertising. i'm never buying extra shit, you can't change this, dont show it to me, dont waste our time. simple as that.
At present, i am constantly bombarded with ads for gambling, dating services, and discount online retailers. i'm not exposing myself here either, i don't search for or participate in anything tangentially related to any of these topics. anybody who would spend even five minutes talking to me in person would quickly find out that all three of these things are areas of entirely zero interest to me. my mind cannot be changed. it would take a fundamental shift in my entire character and belief system. i am completely uninterested in these areas and cannot be convinced otherwise. therefore, these ads are ineffective. they are wastes of time and bandwidth.
I shudder to think of the wasted server uptime, energy cost, bandwidth waste, and battery drain that advertising has seemingly entitled itself to, thieving it all from the devices of people who have to actually work and earn money to access internet service in the first place. when i visit and request a webpage, i want that webpage and nothing else. your advertisement is entirely unwelcome and unwanted. i dont pay for a phone and/or internet connection for YOU to sneak in when i briefly open the door and dare to venture forth. you are a noxious fart hitching a ride on the delightful breeze blowing through my briefly opened door. fuck the absolute, full, entire way off.
for any "but what about" or "what if" scenarios that may come up: don't care. the right to hide and block any and all ads is entirely that and it should extend to every human being. life is too short and precious to be a fucking analytic data point in some fucked up algorithm.
