The Grisha had never seen such power.

They murmured curses and prayers under their breath as she passed in chains, her head held high, refusing to do anything besides look down her nose at the people she’d saved in the battle against the Darkling.

Hundreds. Hundreds of people still lived and breathed thanks to her gift of Summoning. Sure, the Sun Summoner was a Saint thanks to her light, and the Darkling had been revered for centuries for his darkness. But she. She was something different, and had never used her power as a weapon before that day.

“Witch.” A Grisha snarled as she passed, no matter the fact that the word in itself was derogatory towards the Grisha. She turned her head slowly, locking eyes with the man.

“What did you call me?” She asked, voice heavenly in its softness, and his face blanched.

“Y/N—” a hand grasped her arm, the guards around her bristling as the intruder interrupted her path to the dais. Towards the execution that would surely follow. “I’m going to get you out of this. I swear it.”

Prince Nikolai’s eyes were desperate as he stared at you, but a lethal calm had settled through your body, your soul, the minute you had stepped out onto the battlefield. He’d been your lover for the past several months, the fling beginning the moment he’d seen you hiding in the garden, secretly bringing a hawk back to life. The poor thing had been injured and fallen out of a tree, the fall too far for survival, but your steady hands guided it gently from the Afterlife, your heart breaking at the unnecessary loss. The bird loved you, even still, and had perched on your shoulder as you went into war, it’s battle cry vicious when it dove for the enemy Grisha.

“I will accept punishment.” You informed the prince, unused to any show of wild emotion from him. Sure, he’d flirted with you since he’d met you, and was a merciless tease, but the bedroom is where you got the know His Highness very, very well. Hours and hours of lips and tongues and hands, although you always kicked him out after, to his chagrin. “Do not insult me by causing a scene.”

He looked hurt, watching with a panicked expression as you stepped closer to the Queen. She still had the authority until the prince was crowned and, though he had sway, the ultimate decision would be her own. Her last decree, if anything; a last stand to power.

“Do you admit to the crimes against the world you committed during the battle against General Kirigan?” The queen demanded, watching with a sneer as the guards forced Y/N onto her knees.

The girl cocked her head, as if listening to something. She’d always heard the whispers of the fallen, and now they urged her on. Gave her strength.

“I do.” She said calmly, too calmly, and the queen shifted in her seat.

Y/N had walked out onto that battlefield, hawk perched on her shoulder, and Nikolai had balked. He felt fear, genuine fear, when the girl had clasped her hands together and then threw her arms out, raising them above her hand with a clawing motion. As if she was pulling something out of the ground. As if she was Summoning—

The Grisha had screamed, some even wept, as hands shot from the Earth, dragging themselves free from the dirt’s confines. And Y/N had moved forward, flanked on each side by an army, an army, of over a thousand dead Grisha, still able to use their power against the enemy. The opposite side of the war had balked; most ran in outright terror, some fainted, but a few brave souls tried to stand their ground.

But how can you kill the dead?

Afterwards, amid the silence, Y/N had stood still as her army of undead warriors dipped their heads to her, grateful for one last chance to defend their country and home. And when she blew a magic enhanced breath towards them, her hands guiding the air, they vanished in a cloud of smoke and ash, their journey back to the underworld commenced.

She’d been arrested the moment she arrived back at the palace, not even allowed the time to clean up before she was dragged into the throne room. Dark magic, they claimed. Forbidden. Nevermind that she had saved their sorry asses.

“And what—” the queen asked, glaring down at her. “do you think is an appropriate punishment for your…heresy?”

“Is it heresy to save your Grisha?” She mused, eyes narrowing further. “I have used my gifts to defeat the Darkling. I am—”

“Your gifts?” The queen’s tone was mocking and Y/N bristled. “I hope that you mean your curse.”

“It is a gift, Your Majesty.“ She insisted, even as she met the queen’s hateful glare with her own. “Do not mistake me for weak. I do not apologize.”

The queen thrust her hand out abruptly, pissed, and pointed to the nearest guard.

“Bring her head to me.” The queen snarled, and Y/N, despite herself, tensed with fear when the guard approached, sliding his sword out.

Her heart stopped as she swallowed, trying to ignore the blade and what it would feel like striking her neck.

“You will not.” Nikolai lunged forward out of the crowd, stepping into the guard’s path. “She protected you. Defended you.” This he said to the Grisha, his savage glare upon them. “You would allow one of your own to die over—over fear?” He spat on the floor, at the queen’s feet, and his mother recoiled. “The gift for saviors is death, is it?” His tone became deadly, eyes narrowed even as Y/N gaped up at him in surprise. “Then kill me, too. Because I have known of her power for months, and have never feared it.”

Y/N knew that was a lie, knew that he’d flinched when she’d summoned the Grisha, but… could he mean it when he said he believed her innocence? Could the prince of Ravka somehow save her?

“This witch has blinded you.” His mother said, glaring down at the pair. “You do not know what you say.”

“I know she saved hundreds of Grisha.” Nikolai pushed, voice hard. “I know that she hasn’t used her power, has repressed it, until it was completely necessary. I know that I care about her, and if you kill her, you will not have a king to succeed you.”

The queen blanched, Y/N’s mouth hanging open in shock, as Grisha murmured to themselves in the crowd. Nikolai turned and met his lover’s stare with a look of sorrow, before glaring back up at the queen.

“Kill her,” he warned, pointing a damning finger at the queen. “and I’ll follow right after her into the afterlife. I will not live in a world without her.” Then he smirked, half-heartedly, tossing his eyes to his Grisha lover. “Perhaps she’d pull us both back from death if she tried.”

The queen’s face was red hot, but she stood, waving the guards away. When she spoke, her voice weakened, and something in Nikolai relaxed. He’d almost seen the love of his life’s head taken off, for Saints sakes.

“I see you have chosen your side.” She accused him, her expression tight. “Fine. Spare the girl. But if she’s caught meddling with the dead again…” the silent threat was enough. Y/N bristled but stood, inclining her head in the most insignificant motion of deference possible that the queen almost changed her mind.

And so Y/N stood, head high as the guards unlocked her binds, before she strode quickly and stoically out of the throne room.

She’d taken one step into her room before her face crumpled, her knees giving out as she slid onto the floor. Her hawk, watching from its perch on the windowsill, clicked its beak at her as if in question.

She wiped her tears away with her hands and heaved for breath, her fear of almost being beheaded gripping her entire body. And then a knock sounded, the door opening slowly as a person moved into the room. He sat on the floor beside her, not speaking, just offering her his company as she calmed herself down.

“Thank you.” She whispered, sniffing as she turned her head to look at him. Nikolai’s expression was pained, full of sorrow and something warmer, and her heart seized a bit inside her chest. “For…saving me.”

“Thank you for saving us.” He murmured, reaching out to hold her hand in his own. He took a deep, steadying breath, before looking up at her. “I will find you somewhere. Somewhere nice to—to live.” He swallowed. “Did you know I own a house not even half an hour away from here? Lovely place. There’s even a small pond you could swim in.”

“Nikolai, I cant—”

“You don’t have to stay here. Not after being so thoroughly disrespected.” His blue eyes were sad, but a small smile still appeared on his face. He had threatened to…to follow her if she was executed. She felt her breathing grow shallow as he spoke, still holding her hand in his own. “Although I will miss you. But I can visit on weekends, or—”

She moved forward, gripping his jacket as she pressed her mouth to his, a tear slipping down her cheek as she kissed him. And when she pulled away, running a thumb down his cheek, she shook her head.

“Where you go, I go.” She promised, absentmindedly wiping the moisture off her face. “If you want to stay here, to live here, then I’ll stay with you.” She smiled shyly, absorbing the look of adoration he was giving her. “You’ll be king. No one can hurt me but you.”

“Never.” He swore, tugging her close as he placed a soft kiss to her mouth. “I’d never hurt you.”

She believed him. And then her thoughts turned mischievous.

“You know what you can do to console me after my near death experience?” She teased, amusement washing over his features as he raised an eyebrow.

“What might that be?” He asked, feigning confused even as he pulled her onto his lap. So she leaned in, murmuring a couple of words into his ear, and the mumbled curse that left his lips made her laugh. And then she squeaked in surprise as he lifted her, locking the door before tossing her onto her bed.

oh sure! the only thing i mean by it is that, um, isabela was shipwrecked just before you meet her. she loses her ship, the siren’s call, which was once her husband’s and which has been hers since she commandeered it the night zevran assassinated him. it’s been her home, the source of her income and lifestyle, and the marker of her freedom and independence for years. on top of that, in her own words, “i managed to make it to shore. most of my men weren’t as lucky. poor sods. i knew some of those men almost ten years.” she’s audibly emotional when she says this, her voice gets quieter and sadder and she does this slight laugh at herself for it because she recognises it. worth noting that they’re the people she knew best for the last decade, and that she as their captain is responsible for the chase with the qunari they died in and the risky choice to sail into the storm to get away. she uses the same genuine tone bringing up her crewmates on one or two other occasions—she has this ambient line to hawke that’s something like, “i knew a sailor like you once. we lost him in a hurricane. very sad” which always makes me laugh sorry isabela bc it’s so out of nowhere but her tone IS genuine on the “very sad”—and while i don’t think she let men under her command particularly close, she led them and cared about them and they’re gone

idk i just think it’s underdiscussed how hard a hit she took. clearly nobody who survived stuck around and she seems to spend a significant portion of her time drinking decidedly alone in the hanged man. isabela’s all about chasing the next fight and pressing on to the next thing and not looking back, but people who never slow down tend to be running from what they’d have to think about if they did. she’s good at rolling with punches and staying on her feet, but for me it’s hard to argue that what happened to her men isn’t partly responsible for the distance she tries to keep with hawke, and especially how she deals with the whole arishok conflict. even after hawke duels for her life, she apparently avoids them for the whole three year act break, having convinced herself they’re better off without her. after all, her crew followed her into that fight too, and look what happened to them

The fucking. PROBLEM is, "get me out of here," I say, shaking the bars of my cage. "Get me out of this house."

But. I don't have any faith in myself that I would be able to survive out there considering I had a Hawks Childhood with respect to neglect and hiding from the world. It's hard. It's hard! Idk if it comes across or if I'm just good at masking, but I wasn't allowed out of the house as a kid. I didn't socialize during key years. A decade. And it's hard, because I spent a good deal of my school years alone and bullied as well.

I feel like I am too traumatized to be able to function in society correctly; not necessarily because of the amount of hurt inflicted upon me— which was quite a bit— but because of what was deprived of.

I don't... Fucking know how to speak people. I don't know English and even though it is my only language, I feel like it's barely my first. I'm not fluent in being a fucking person. I was told to put on a fake shell persona and to never be myself around friends. I try not to listen, but maybe they were onto something cuz I probably should have. I don't know what to do besides try and pull a Wybee with that stitched smile thing.

I try very hard to connect. I'm actually quite terrible with maintenance of relationships. I'm not a good friend, I run away and avoid my inbox. I look at every ask I get and feel deeply unwell at the thought of answering. I love deeply but shallowly. I try to connect further, but it feels like there is a glass box separating me from everyone else.

I don't feel better than anyone else, I just feel wrong. And I see people with all these friends and I get jealous, like. I don't. I don't know what that's like!!!!! FUCK!!!!!!!!

I feel you. I'm genuinely sad for people who expected more, because they weren't wrong to do so. Hori set this story up a certain way, and failed to follow through. It's a "what was even the point?" type of story now. Game of Thrones had a better ending.

I'm jaded as hell and I've been saying he'd pull a Kishimoto for years. And I was right on the money. But even with my low (LOW) expectations, I never ever expected it to be this bad. I genuinely thought he'd spare Toga out of the main three. I thought Shigaraki would actually be saved. I thought they'd be locked up, but be "helped" via therapy or whatever. That Toga would be promised a chance at freedom sometime in the future.

I thought the narrative would insist things are changing for the better without actually changing anything. But they honest to god put conflicting evidence for even that.

And fuck this "tragedy" nonsense LMAO. If he actually intended for this to be a tragedy (which I don't believe for a second) it's STILL horribly written! How the FUCK am I supposed to take a tragedy seriously when the only tragic things happen to the villains while the heroes deaths are essentially magically reversed? Why the FUCK is Bakugou alive? Even for this magic hand waving bullshit, that was so stupid and ridiculous. How is this a tragedy and pretty much zero of the important heroes/students died? How did they all fucking survive what was supposed to be a war? Why did Toga die off screen, if this is supposed to be such a tragedy? Why didn't we see the life slip from her eyes and her body slump over? From blood loss of all things? How convenient that all of the doubles dissipated right before she decided to save a failure hero's life via the same way Twice used his double quirk to save her earlier? Twice's doubles did jack fucking shit. He may as well not have given that blood to Toga. The way they had to go to ensure Toga's death. It's so clumsy I could die. What the fuck was he thinking? Why do famed villains Toga and Twice have a better track record at saving people than Ochako lmao? The way people gave so much credit to Hori that they thought Toga, saved by Ochako, would use the doubles, and by extension Twice, to save hero and villain alike only for him to be like "uhhhhhh and they went away" after they did NOTHING. Except make Hawk scream about killing her/the doubles. Which was never properly addressed btw.

I could go on and on and on and on but I have to stop myself at some point. I cannot believe it's gone this badly.

Where MHA fails : stakes and tension

I know a lot of people have made similar posts about this topic but I wanted to give my two cents on this so here it is.

MHA's early arcs definitely had a lot of tension and stakes like just look at the usj arc or the shopping incident heck even the overhaul arc had some good tension and stakes when it came to the idea of izuku would actually survive his fight against overhaul with eri full on having a whole Quirk breakdown on his back. However, after the overhaul arc that tension and stakes all faded away into nothingness which is now the final war arc. In my opinion, there are a few reasons as to why this happend but the most prominent reason is:

Hori refuses to kill characters for the plot

Yeah, that's pretty much it. The lack of character deaths really doesn't help the tensions in the show and the characters that ACTUALLY DO DIE OR GET INJURED don't really affect the audience in any major way.

Midnight- horikoshi had to kill someone close to the hero kids so tensions could rise and students could actually truly realise how dangerous it is and really up the stakes that the villains are back and stronger then ever. However, we don't see midnight really bond or interact with the students so the whole having momo ,mina and Kiri crying over her doesn't hit big.

Twice - I get it the guy had to die and yeah if we are talking about it his death or him living created a bunch of tension and stakes for the hero's because his quirk is really deadly to be honest. However, I don't think his death was done well to be honest like it was probably one of the best deaths hori gave us but I can't help but think there could of been more when it came to him

Nighteye- honestly this is the same as twice like I know his death was there to serve a turning point in the story and show the darker side of heroics which worked but he was honestly an asshole so I was happy he was gone. I only felt bad cos of mirio crying so maybe try and make him a nicer person and then kill him off?

Magne- never really bothered with her death. Like sure it definitely amplified the tension between chisaki and the LOV but we could of probably seen more from her then he could of killed her off but the same with twice and nighteye her death did raise the stakes and tensions by a lot.

Shirakumo - his death was just there to make us sympathetic towards aizawa and him being revealed as kurogiri just ruined his character because even though it had potential you can definitely tell hori didn't think it through or expand with that plot point

Then there is the other deaths I don't remember or just don't care about like crust, whatever number of other pros who died during the war, native, the villains

And there are the villains who hori just done dirty in killing them like SPINNER ,TOGA AND DABI

Something like this can be easily fixed in MHA which is literally killing more characters that SHOULD of died in MHA like:

Gran Torino - how is that guy still alive?

Aizawa shota ( Iam 50/50 on this)

Bakugo Katsuki - the guy had a full complete character arc his character went full circle so he was just there also his revival made no sense you could of revived him differently

Someone from 1A or 1B (raise the tension)

Enji todoroki - his death would of made more sense then him living for multiple reasons

Miriko - idk how she is alive

Lady nagant - same as miriko

GIVE VILLAINS LIKE TOGA, DABI AND SPINNER PROPER DEATHS.

Horikoshi's 2nd biggest problems when it comes to stakes and tensions is THE LACK OF CONSEQUENCES!!!!!

The hero's and villains should of had more consequences overall to raise the stakes in the show. Hawks and tokoyami losing their QUIRKS IS A GOOD Consequence BUT THEM GETTING IT BACK DIFFUSES THE TENSION. This is the same for what happend to mirio. Unpopular opinion, but AFO should of had his own consequences with taking a living powerful sentient soul taking or absorbing quirk like dark shadow.

There are so many consequences that hori could of gave as a result to WHAT ALREADY HAPPEND BUT HE CHOOSES TO IGNORE IT AND GIVE CONSEQUENCES THAT CONTRADICT HIS WHOLE PLOT.

What I mean by that is the whole izuku somehow losing danger sense. That stuff makes ZERO SENSE how and why would that happen? Isn't danger sense and the other QUIRKS all merged within OFA because that's exactly why AFO couldn't take OFA from a OFA user because yochi's quirk is merged withing OFA and so are the other QUIRKS so how is it that danger sense is stolen by shigaraki?!?! Does this mean that izuku is someone that somehow has the capacity to carry 8 DIFFERENT POWERFUL AND DANGEROUS QUIRKS. That makes no sense because if it isn't that he is somehow related to AFO then how isn't he a nomu with the amount of quirks he has.

In conclusion, the problem of stakes and tension is literally caused by two major factors:

Horikoshi's inability to kill off some characters

Horikoshi's lack of consequences and if consequences are given they tend to CONTRADICT the plot

Ok let's break this down since I'm going to, probably incorrectly, assume that your intentions are good and you are just woefully misinformed. For the sake of clarity, when I say indoor cat, I mean 100% indoor, and when I say outdoor cat, I mean a cat that is regularly let outside without a leash and isn't a feral or working barn cat.

1) "You can be sued for stealing a cat, especially if it's collared or microchipped".

Okay, so if you microchip an outdoor cat, you have wasted your money. Microchips are for finding your cat should it go missing. If an outdoor cat goes missing, you better hope someone picked it up and took it in bc 9/10 if your outdoor cat goes missing it's dead. Full stop. Hawks, coyotes, dogs, other cats, cars, eagles, wolves, cougars, etc all see that cat as food and cats may be OP for their size but a pack of coyotes whose territory is being shrunk by the day will find that cat very tasty. And in case you are confused, coyotes don't care if you sue them, they will eat the microchip and leave the bloodied collar with the bones.

But let's say you are worried about me getting sued, my response is: ok????? You seem to be under the impression that I am taking cats for a selfish reason and i am definitely not. I would do this for the cat's benefit, with no worries for my own. I'll get sued, I'll gladly take the court case if it means they keep their pets inside. But how would they know I took their cat? They wouldn't because I don't let my cats outside ever. They won't see the cat again and it won't be because a coyote ripped it to peices while it was taking a shit. And it would be a lot harder for them to sue a coyote, so I've done them a favor once again.

Ok, that's on me for not making myself clear. If a cat is missing, and there are posters, online posts, text psa, etc I will see them. I actually follow a local missing pet group that alerts me to every pet in my area that's gone missing, and each includes the info about the pet and if they are indoor or not. When I have time I go and look for them around my town. But again, not far from the feral cat colonies is where the coyotes run so I have yet to be successful. If a cat owner has stated that their cat has escaped and are indoor cats, then I am on the streets, in forests, marshes, behind malls, etc, to return that missing family member. But cats are the equivalent of a toddler in terms of ability to navigate life, and it is definitely neglect to leave your toddler outside unattended.

Moreover, there is a bitch who lives near me who buys kittens, doesn't get them fixed, and when they get out she doesn't even bother to look for them and I have rescued several of those and their subsequent kittens(many of which did not survive even after given professional care bc the mothers were still kittens themselves and can't care for their babies). That bitch has been reported many times and guess what the cops do??? That's right, what cops do best, which is jack shit. I have spent months doing tnr just cleaning up her messes so you have no right to tell me I am without compassion or that I'm vile. I had a cat who was an escape artist, but I at least made sure she was fixed in case she ever got out(she only ever got out once and after I reinforced the screens on our porch).

But again, if your outdoor cat goes missing, what good would returning them do? The cat will just go outside again and face the same shit that caused them to dissappear in the first place. It's actual insanity and those people shouldn't be cat owners(personally I think they should be charged with neglect but whose counting?).

Okay here is where you lost me.

No one would be able to steal my pet unless they literally broke into my place, because again my cats NEVER go outside. And advocating for pet owners to keep their cats indoors only is something that is vital to the cat's health and the environment, so that is literally the opposite of letting your cat go when tired of them. I don't know where you got that from and honestly I don't care because, no, you don't know me and if your reading comprehension wasn't piss poor you would have seen in the tags you are referencing that I HAVE LITERALLY NEVER DONE WHAT YOU ARE DESCRIBING BC I LIVE IN AN APARTMENT WITH A PET LIMIT. ✨️ I've never taken a cat off the street and kept it!✨️ I can't, or I'll get evicted! Ive fostered for a short period but ive never taken in a cat from the street. But make no mistake I would if I could.

My compassion is why I try to remain educated and informed about why it matters to keep your cat inside. I am compassionate toward the 3 month old cat that it's owner let out in the dead of winter, unfixed, that gave birth to 4 kittens under our car, all premature and 1 was a stillbirth. She was too young to be a mother and her instincts never kicked in. She didn't know to lick away the umbilical cord, she didn't know how to feed them, she didn't know what to do and even with my sister, my mother, my coworker, a volunteer foster, and 3 vet techs and a veterinarian doctor, none of the kittens lived more than 2 days.

I am compassionate towards them. I am compassionate toward the owner of a cat I trapped, fostered, and took to the vet, who after adopting this cat, fell on hard times and when her card declined at the register, she put all of her human food back and just bought cat food(I offered to pay for it but she refused).

So maybe read what you have written and before you hit send, maybe do some research. Maybe think about how you would feel if some stranger just barely read what you put in a tag and decided to tell them they are vile and without compassion while in the same message saying that you don't know them or how they treat others.

Non spoilery as possible final thoughts of The Veilguard after finishing my first playthrough. Beneath the cut because it got long and I respect your dash space 😌

The Good:

Character creation was so much fun. I'm looking forward to a new playthrough so I can make another Rook.

The combat was a little tricky at first for me to get the hang off, but I got the hang of it and ended up loving it.

I played as a warrior and had a lot of fun being the hulk and smashing the ground and kicking people off ledges. I don't feel like I unlocked very many abilities, but idk if that was a me problem like with the things I chose during levelling or if that's a class problem, or if that's a game problem. I also didn't switch them out very much, so maybe it didn't matter I hadn't unlocked very many.

I loved the companions. I do have some critiques I'll get to later, but overall they were a very enjoyable cast of characters and I loved how they handled companion quests.

I didn't actually mind only having 2 companions, and I didn't mind not being able to control them. I liked not having to micromanage them.

I also didn't mind the fact that there weren't really conversations you could just have with them. I remember getting frustrated with just repeated dialogues in Inquisition, or when the companions had no new dialogue. I also liked that I didn't feel worried about making sure I paced myself through conversation trees so I didn't run through all the dialogues too fast.

I liked the soundtrack. I know a lot of people probably don't pay attention to it, but I did and I enjoyed it.

Rook was fucking funny. They were so smart but also 'no thoughts head empty' at the same time. Truly up there on my list of favorite DA protagonists.

They got the balance of doom, dread and darkness with hope and friendship just right imo.

Solas truly shone and whoever wrote him did SO good. He is a fascinating character and a really, really good antagonist and mirror to Rook. I love him. I hate him. I love to hate him.

The Okay:

The overall writing of the game was fine. I think you could tell there were parts of the stories and certain characters who maybe suffered more through the rewrites and everything it took to get the game out. I found some of the dialogue in the early game a little clunky, like whoever wrote it didn't say it out loud first, but that I do feel like that problem fixed itself eventually.

I feel like I remember them talking up the customizability of the Lighthouse, and I feel like it was there to an extent, but I wanted to be able to play with it more.

I liked the returning character cameos we got, but there were a few I feel would have really made sense to hear from or see again given certain context. (Zevran, Merrill, any Grey Warden character.)

I've seen other people say this, but it didn't really feel like a Dragon Age game. It was a different format, to be fair, and I liked that they explored new mechanics. It did feel...a little bit like a Mass Effect game. Which I didn't mind because I love Mass Effect. I think this problem could have been fixed with just a handful more of callbacks to prior games.

Like I've talked about this before and I do truly get it, we can't import every single decision ever. That's a lot of things to account for and new players wouldn't have fun trying to set that up if they'd never played the other games. BUT they could have kept it so simple; a letter from the HoF (if they survived) advising you on how to handle Blight, and how they'll take care of Ferelden for you. A codex entry about Hawke's journey to Weisshaupt after the Fade. A King Alistair sending you troops for the final battle etc and so forth.

It just needed a little more grounding to feel like it really belonged in Thedas, and that things that happened in prior games did matter to the culmination of the thread that has run through the entire series; the Blight, the Evanuris, and the Fade. That could have fixed the 'didn't feel like a Dragon Age game' problem.

The Bad:

There really wasn't much I disliked about the game. I wanted them to delve into some of the characters a little more and rely less on the ascribed stereotypes they had given them (ex: Taash being a jock who isn't necessarily in touch with their feelings or Lucanis talking about coffee all the goddamn time).

There were puzzles in certain areas of the game that gave you zero direction or incredibly vague hints and you just had to fumble through it. Maybe it's me, and I just have a low intelligence modifier, but I also did all the astrarium puzzles in Inquisition just fine so maybe they needed just a little more direction in game.

Also someone like a writer said this was the most romantic Dragon Age game and maybe it's just the romance I picked, but uh. Hard disagree. I don't care for any of the romance routes in Inquisition for my canon Inquisitor, but it's hard to beat Solas' date in the Fade or Cullen's first kiss on the battlements, or Iron Bull calling you "kadan" for the first time. This opinion might change as I play more of the routes, but for now, I was just a little disappointed with it. (I romanced Taash. I love them. So much. But there could have been so much more)

Final Verdict:

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 stars. I will enjoy playing it again, and I think if you can go into it expecting it to be fully its own game and new and different from prior games you'll enjoy it.

3. What is your favourite episode and why?

this is hard but i think ep 6! first off, i love tim entering his activist era and i’m just obsessed with his look here. but i love the complicated dynamics between hawk and jackson, tim and jackson, hawk and lucy, and tim and lucy. i really loved tim and jackson’s scenes, especially with the knowledge that tim saw baby jackson in the hospital. also, the scene where jackson shows up at the cabin and excitedly announces he dropped acid makes me holler every time. shoutout to etienne kellici for that line delivery. it’s perfection.

6. What is your favourite parallel/reference in the show?

as much as i love “promise you won’t write” “i won’t” in the last episode, i adore hawk saying he loves jackson “beyond measure” in ep 6. (another reason why it’s my fav ig.)

9. What is your favourite headcanon(s)?

i desperately want to believe that tim and hawk kept up some sort of correspondence before tim dies. i also need jerome to survive and he, marcus, and frankie live together as a happy found family forever and ever.

10. If the show had one more episode, what would it be about?

i’d want an episode focused solely on marcus and frankie. i’ve spoken about this before, but their relationship feels a lot less underdeveloped than tim and hawk’s. idk what era i’d want this episode to focus on tho… maybe the 60s (again with ep 6!) because i want to know a lot of details that are kind of glossed over. is marcus still writing for jet magazine? how did frankie decide to go into social work? etc etc.

16. If you could give the show an alternative ending, what would happen in your version?

i don’t say this often, but i genuinely think the show ended on a perfect note. hawk at the quilt, finally admitting to his daughter that he loved tim… heartbreaking obviously, but brilliant. there are some characters who i’d like to have been mentioned at some point like leonard and lucy (just for closure), but ultimately i think the ending is perfect.

First of all: New crewmate!!! Sanji is so cool. His backstory was probably the darkest of the crew that’s been revealed so far bc like. Starvation is no joke. ALSO ZEFF CUT HIS OWN LEG OFF TO SAVE SANJI?.?? that’s his dad. Idc who Sanji’s real dad is, ZEFF is his dad.

Zoro’s friends were so funny in this arc too like how are they still alive 😭 I’m glad they’re ok though. Full body iron fist or whatever his name is? He was INTERESTING WHY DID THEY JUST USE HIM TO INTRODUCE SANJI AND GIVE LUFFY A REASON TO STAY AT THE BARATIE FOR LONGER THAN HE HAD TO. rambling about characters from my convoluted Dragon Age personal canon bc @bluerose5 asked the other day and I forgottttt (part 1 of idk how many because I HAVE A LOT, but for now u get the Big Three and a couple side characters)

okay so, first up, we have Breick Tabris AKA The Only Gay In The Alienage

A quiet, generally even-tempered young man with a strong sense of justice, never really wanted to be a leader but took it in stride because it was the right thing to do. Took him a while to warm up to the humans in the party, but he opened up a lot more after they picked up Zev and ended up very close with him in particular. Went through with the ritual with Morrigan at Zevran's insistance (and, ah, assistance) and stuck around as Warden Commander for a while before eventually leaving with Zev to search for a cure, leaving a mage they picked up at the tower, Camryn Amell, in charge.

More than anything, Camryn wants peace and bloody quiet, and if she has to set a hoard of darkspawn on fire to get it, so be it. Left in the mage tower after Jowan buggered off, she joined with Wynne after the party helped solve the abomination infestation, and underwent the joining ritual after the Blight. She comes off as abrasive, but she's a good'un, and keeps the Fereldan wardens well in line. Whilst Loghain was recruited into the wardens, she was actually the warden that met up with the Inquisitor through Hawke.

Despite being "cousins something-something-removed", Delilah "Lilah" Hawke seems to have little in common with Camryn - she's bright, loud and impulsive, and can't sit still for more than a minute. She finds making friends easily (and enemies even easier) and loves fiercely - be that her family, friends, or the eventual relationship she forges with Isabela - and, paired with her complete inability to mind her own business, this made the path to becoming the Champion of Kirkwall was a relatively straightforward one. The deaths of her mother and sister, and Carver contracting the taint and having to join the wardens, however, left her with a lot of guilt and Lilah ultimately sacrificed herself in the fade for her cousin and the Inquisitor.

Born into the Lavellan clan, Ala was taken from her family at a young age by slavers, ending up in Antiva after a narrow escape, where she spent some years on the streets, joining a group of thieves but fleeing the city after a job gone wrong and being caught trying to steal supplies by Breick and Zev on the road. They initially planned to find someone to look after her, but found themselves unable to give her up when the time came, particularly after being the ones to name her when she confided in them about her discomfort in being seen as a boy. Under their care, she opened up from a scared, near-silent child fighting to survive into a brave, adventurous girl who could talk for Antiva.

She did eventually reconnect with her clan, and, at 16, went to the conclave on behalf of both her families - using Lavellan as a surname to keep her connection to the Hero of Ferelden secret - and then tripped and fell into being named the Herald of Andraste and made the leader of the Inqusition.

She struggled a bit, as any teenager would, with this responsibility, and the whole Herald thing did almost go to her head, but, really, with the HoF for a dad, it wasn't surprising that she came through in the end. Leliana was, of course, the first the figure out who her dads were, and stepped up to guide her friends' daughter, and Ala also ended up with a very close, sisterly bond with Josie, as well as the nickame "Little Bird" from Varric. And she absolutely ended her adventure decking Solas in the face for lying to her face and breaking her sister's heart.

aaaand last up for tonight, Ala's biological sister, Heulwen. When Breick and Zevran couldn't make it right away to check on their daughter after the conclave, Heulwen volunteered to go and find out what had happened, opting to join the Inquisition and be by her sister's side. Being more patient and observant, she balances out Ala well, and though Ala didn't really remember Heulwen from her early youth, they did grow very close and protective of one another. Which is, of course, why Ala was so pissed when Solas - who Heulwen had fallen hard for, finding him charming and his knowledge (particularly of elven history) fascinating - up and disappeared on them and turned out to be behind the whole mess in the first place.

I did have a whole idea about her having had a kid that is 95% certainly Solas' by the point of Trespasser, but I can never quite decide on that being canon or not.

This chapter was pretty exciting

Dorian seemed to be losing control of his magic and struggling in similar ways to Celaena. Maybe he needs a faerie boyfriend to train him, too. Not that I don’t think Sorscha can train him, just that, he seems to be more of a threat to her where Rowan and Celaena are evenly matched.

I really liked how he smothered her fire by pulling the oxygen out of the air.

(It made me think about ATLA)

You know how, like, the fire nation did a genocide on the air nomads…

I mean, I just never thought of it before, but yeah. They could nullify their powers. Air and fire always seemed to be the most powerful elements, especially in the thesis of that show.

Idk where I’m going with this, I just think it was a neat use of magic, and not something I have necessarily seen before, even with another famous fire/air combo like Zuko and Aang.

Right, so, I’m not sure how to feel about this episode honesty. It doesn’t really feel like much progress was made in advancing the plot. In fact, they just kind of did more of the same from the pilot. Elena and Stefan do some more of the “will they wont they” dance, Jeremy wanders after Vicki like a wounded dog; Damon attacks some more people, Stefan struggles around blood, the episode ends with another girl getting attacked. I’m also kind of realizing that most of the people in this town are terrible people. Nobody seems to know how to talk to each other like normal people. In reality, it’s probably just CW writing, but it’s making it hard to like a lot of the characters. I’m not really sure who I’m meant to be rooting for aside from Stefan and Elena. This is only the second episode though, so I wont be too harsh and actually give them a chance to get it going.

why would all might owe it to deku to tell him about all of the candidates he'd considered? : / just seems kind of irrelevant to me; if anything, arrogant of deku to think he's entitled to that. like, maybe it could be useful to him now to know what's expected of him, but there's no reason all might needed to tell him beforehand, or at any specific time. also, I think all might could be forgiven for worrying that knowing what made him choose deku could lead to deku getting a big head about it. -- …unless it turned out to just be flat-out luck, I guess

It was the night during Midsummers, your friends had convinced you to leave together. You were running alongside Kiara, leaving a trail of sand behind you.

The both of you laughed, catching up with the rest of the boys, "Later, losers!" Jj yells as you ran to a very familiar place, the small fireplace you all loved to huddle around and tell stories.

John B had a plan, coming clean with the reason to bring you all together. He wanted to use Sarah to obtain information. Kie despised the plan, "Why don't I believe you?"

"I'm trying to make us filthy rich here." he defended, not seeing anything wrong with it.

"Do I look like the type of person, to fall for Sarah Cameron?" He added, raising his eyebrow down at her.

You were involved with Rafe on the low. His sister knew but she kept the promise to not tell on you. You shifted in your seat uncomfortably, hating the way this was going down.

"Uh..." Jj mumbled as Pope added, "Do you want us to answer that, or-"

"You can't trust her." Kie sighed in frustration, staring at him—hoping to knock some sense into her friend's head.

"Her brother did hit me in the back, with a golf club." Pope looked up at him, pointing over at his now healing cut below his top lip.

"Rafe and Sarah are different human beings."

"That, they are." You spoke, nodding in agreement with JB, not wanting to add more fuel to the fire.

"Guys, it won't be that bad." You stood up, cleaning your dress from any sand that could've gotten on it. Your mom would kill you if you ruined the dress she helped you buy.

You were invited to Midsummers thanks to your mom having connections, but it was clear you didn't belong there. Your parent's followed you anywhere you went. They craved attention, you didn't.

Rafe had cornered you inside the bathroom, his eyes watching you like a hawk to catch you alone.

Your dress was breathtaking, you made sure of that. The kisses and touches that were shared inside that stall, will forever be engraved inside your mind.

The strong thunder and lighting made you jump as you stood behind JB, deciding to follow along with him to make sure Sarah didn't try anything.

Persuaded by Kie you were, now standing there as they spoke. Your eyes looked down, shuddering at the height of the old tower.

"Did you tell your crew, you were here with me?" Sarah spoke, looking up with a small smile.

"Did you?"

"No. I will, though. I don't care." she stated, brushing back her hair as the wind picked up, making you pat down your dress as it kept rising up.

"Guys, please—I'm scared of heights... let's just get down." you nervously spoke, your foot shaking as you took deep breaths, not thinking this through

The weather was certainly not helping you stay calm. The only person who could wasn't here, at least you thought he wasn't.

He lurked behind the branches after following Topper in his truck. Finding it strange that his friend had left his house without saying a word.

He stayed down as he watched Topper walk up the tower slowly and quietly, keeping his noise to a minimum, hoping to catch onto every word.

"And I'm breaking up with Topper," Sarah spoke, turning to face you with a smile as she held your hand for support.

"Really?"

"What, you dont think that's a good idea?"

He stumbled around with his words nervously, redeeming himself quickly, agreeing with the idea being beyond great, happy she felt the same way.

A strong thunder made her latch onto JB, laughing it out together as you jumped nervously, shaking your head, "That's it, I'm leaving you two."

"We're gonna go down now, hold on." He assured you, turning back to press his lips against Sarah, his hands holding onto her hips.

You turned your head to look away, coming face to face with a drunk, pissed-off Topper.

Ah, shit.

"I knew it, Sarah. I knew you were lying to me." He let out, "You stupid, lying whore."

Your eyes widened in shock, putting your hands forwards to stop him from coming closer, "Watch your mouth."

"Tell her to back off, cause I'm not about to beat up a girl." Topper motioned at your frame, pushing you back slightly to get closer to JB.

"Walk, man. Go home. Go home." he pushed Top back, earning back a shove.

"Guys, stop!" you yell, trying to hold Topper back from doing anything, getting in front of him.

"Sarah, let's talk." He lets out, pointing over at her as she shakes her head, "No."

"She doesn't want to!" John B exclaims, getting in front of Sarah, leaving you near the rails.

"What did I tell you, man??" Top yells once more, launching himself to push JB, but he was too quick, his body moved away from the hands that had now pushed you back against the rails.

You screamed as you fell off the tower, becoming aware of the situation you were now in. It all happened too fast.

"Y/N!!" Rafe screamed, watching you hit the ground with a thud, your body going limp.

He ran to you quickly, getting down on his knees as he cried, not believing what he just witnessed.

A small pool of blood slowly surrounded your head, being swallowed by the grass beneath you.

You groan softly, losing focus as you tried to keep still, your lip quivering up at him, your eyes fluttering shut as he spoke, "Oh.. ohh, my god."

He looked down at you, pressing his hands to your cheeks softly, "Stay with me, please." His eyes were tearing up, a few teardrops falling onto your dress.

John B and Sarah had run down quickly, "Rafe?" she asked, tears in her eyes as she stared down at her brother in confusion.

"She's not responding, but she moved," He choked out, his hands now covered in your blood, "We- we have to call someone."

"I got it," JB grabbed his phone, dialing 911 as he stared at your unconscious body, knowing that would've been him if you hadn't been there.

He wiped his tears with the back of his hand, speaking on the phone with the emergency operator on the other line, giving them the address.

Topper stayed behind, hands shaking in despair. You weren't responding, he didn't mean to. He just wanted to talk it out with Sarah, why were you there? He sobbed to himself, gripping his hair—smacking his head repeatedly, "Fuck!"

That grabbed the attention of Rafe, who had yet to leave your side. He was scared leave you alone, his hands wrapped around yours, whispering words to get you to respond, but to no avail—you stayed there, feeling cold to the touch.

The rain had died down, the tower was too high up, and there was no way to survive the fall. You were fading away, the voices and cries out for you were getting quieter, it felt calm.

You were calm.

You took your last breath, a small tear falling down your eye as you did so.

Rafe noticed while his face was pressed against your stomach, slowly turning his head to face you, "y/n?"

"What- what's going on?" Sarah rushed over to his side, using two fingers and pressing them against your neck, hoping to find anything that showed her you were still there.

"She's okay, right?" he nods over at her, holding onto your hand, rubbing his thumb against your hand

The only person that knew about you and Rafe was Sarah. She'd never seen him this happy, calm even. You kept him sane, he felt at peace in your presence. A light that guided him down the right path, had dimmed away, leaving him all alone.

How could she tell him you were gone?

"Rafe.." her voice was shaky, taking a few deep breaths to keep herself together, "She's.. she's gone."

The words circled around his head, thinking of them as a joke. He let out a slight laugh— not believing her, "Sarah, that's not something to joke about."

His eyes looked down at you, his hand brushing the hair away from your face. You looked so peaceful, a sleeping beauty in his eyes.

How could Sarah play with him like this? You're right there. You haven't gone anywhere.

"She's right here, she's gonna be okay—I know she will." He insisted, shaking your body softly, "Wake up, pretty girl, let her know you're okay."

But you didn't move. Your chest had stopped rising, and the faint sound of the sirens was getting closer.

He shook your body once more, turning to John B who was holding Sarah tightly in his embrace, her face hidden away against his chest as she sobbed.

"Why are you just standing? come help me wake her up!" his heart was pounding, he could feel the thump of his heartbeat in his ears.

His hands were shaking as he stared down at you, slowly becoming aware that you were in fact, not coming back.

The lump in his throat had thickened, now on his feet— eyes burning into Topper's back.

He'd heard the news from Sarah, instantly turning away to swallow the guilt. He killed an innocent girl.

"You fucking killed her." He was now headed straight to him, pushing him forward and down to the floor.

Top caught himself with his hands, staying on his knees as he stared up at Rafe, "Look man, I swear I- she fell, the rail must've been rotten!"

Words were not enough to bring you back, with a blow to the jaw— Topper was under Rafe, accepting his beating.

The paramedics attended to your body, deeming you dead at the scene.

The other pogues had appeared, watching the medics put your body inside a body bag, closing it up.

Too lost to notice Topper laying unconsciously on the floor.

Rafe's hands were bloody, most of it was yours. He sat down, pressing his head against his knees, letting it all out as he cried, not wanting to see the ambulance drive away with your body inside.

It was a night he'd never forget. The night a piece of him died along with you, his pretty girl.

But there was something that was quite wrong with his logic, even after months passing from the day you left him, the night he thought he remembered all too vividly, was completely wrong.

Sarah had explained it to him after 6 months.

He'd learned it was all part of his imagination, he couldn't comprehend it. He saw your body moving when you hit the ground, your eyes were on his. He saw you breathing.

How could he be wrong?

But the truth was, when you fell off the tower, the moment you had plowed into the ground, you were gone. Your head had hit the grass with a strong force— a few small rocks breaking through your skull. You had felt no pain, but he didn't know that.

He had imagined it all and it broke him, you were never conscious, it was all a lie. Tricked by his own mind in his state. He felt defeated.

He never got to say goodbye.

He never got to tell you he loved you.

Dragon Age Absolution!

Somehow Meredith Stannard has returned

*cue groaning from the entirety of Kirkwall*

I thought the show was cool, could’ve def benefited from a longer run time to give us more time to get to know the characters, especially Miri and Hira’s relationship given that at the end we’re expected to be fully invested in it and feel as betrayed as Miri but… nope! I’m just kinda meh about it (as opposed to when Miri and Qwydion hugged that had me melting)

Genuinely hoping that they don’t have Miri get back together with the woman who tried to sell her back into slavery (even if it was only “temporary” using Hira’s own words) because that’s a big yikers island moment.

I was mostly invested in the other members of the group, Roland, Lacklon, Qwydion, and of course our tragic Fairbanks (rip you fine Orleasian, I am so sad about your death). Mostly because of their personalities and how well they meshed together, Roland and Lacklon stole the show for me, that dip was *fans self*.

I did very much enjoy Miri’s arc of confronting her past and coming to terms with her brothers death, it was great and I loved the scene between her and her brother, the acting there was great.

Tevinters be vinting, the guy failed his harrowing and only survived because his mother forced the demon out of him and into the body of Neb, I was not surprised when he did blood magic he went off the deep end (also because of Miri’s rejection of him calling her his family when she was really his property but I’m not gonna psychoanalyze Rezaren, we’ll save that for never). Tassia was really cool! We’ve never seen a Tevinter Templar before and it was interesting to see how compared to southern templars they don’t seem to do much fighting at all. Tessia really did appear like the most battle hardened out of all the other templars there (as befits her Knight Commander status), or were those just recruits?

The animation when it came to fighting and doing magic was great, the blood magic especially was amazing and I can’t help but imagine what my own characters look like while doing these cool spells without the limits of a game engine. The only part it was kind of off with was when the dragon showed up, very jarring 3d animation there, it didn’t blend well for me.

Of course there’s also the extra lore bits we got!! The fact that the person that made the circulum was a Pavus?? Did NOT slip my attention BioWare, Dorian told the inquisition about this artifact I know it!! Only a bit sad that Rolland, Lacklon, and Qwydion disrupted the ritual at the end because I wanted to see what happened next. Oh and the spirit of Wisdom having those eyes that are the same as the wolf that’s behind Solas all the time 👀 I see you BioWare. Also the connection between Qwyndion and the dragon 😭, 

A little bit miffed on the Meredith reveal honestly, like… is she just under Kirkwall? Hanging out with a bunch of red templars? How has she been running a whole espionage thing underground with them and Varric, who is Viscount of Kirkwall and also knows almost everything going on there, just has no idea??? (Especially when we know her body is still in the Gallows, does Varric just let her chill there? “Yeah don’t mind the red templars rowing to the gallows, it’s just Meredith trying to start a war again” What's going on???) I know it’s bait for a season 2 but like… can no antagonist Hawke kills stay dead???

Also mad about Fairbanks’s death, he was a fav side character, a good man that wanted to do right by his people and he dies thousands of miles from home by a traitor, who will probably end up being redeemed I guess idk.

Anyways those are my rambling thoughts, stay tuned for more if Netflix decides not to can it after this one season. 6.5-7/10
