It really pissed me off that Hiccup had to choose between getting Tuff, Ruff and Snotlout out of that sinking ship when he could've been following Krogan. Like ofc it was the right decision but that wouldn't have happened if the twins and Snotlout didn't follow Gruff into the ship :/

I decided that this idea is too crack to only apply to numbered characters so this is going to be a mini-series and crossposted on AO3. This mini-series is based on this prompt I have.

There will be 9 chapters in total including prologue and epilogue. I can’t promise any update schedule, I go with the flow. A meme to summarize the fic.

Prologue

No one could blame (Y/N) for occupying themselves with something else to stay awake during Trein’s class. It wasn’t their fault at all, there was just something in Trein’s voice that made people want to sleep. So they just tried to focus on everything but Trein and to be the only one who managed to stay awake in their friend group. At first, (Y/N) just stared outside through the window get got bored and started to count the bricks on the wall but there weren’t much to begin with and their endeavor ended quickly. Their eyes flicked to the bookshelf, it was impossible to read the titles from where they were sitting, hence that didn’t hold their attention for long.

Maybe I should start listening to what Trein is saying, I might learn something.

Not a minute later, (Y/N) was yawning. So much for trying… They decided listening to the professor wasn’t going to work out, in order to stay awake, they continued where they left off. On the top of the bookshelf, there was a purple globe and golden signs on the surface, curved lines and a couple of dots. I bet there are more than 10 dots on it. 1…2…3…4… (Y/N) stopped counting when they noticed an abnormality on the globe. There was a shape that didn’t follow the pattern, two small circles were connected to a bigger one. That’s strange… Everything is in perfect condition in the NRC… Maybe they didn’t notice something as small as that. Either way, there was no point of thinking about something as trivial as that. Though, it was way more entertaining than the history class.

(Y/N) poked Ace, “Shhhht, how many minutes left until the class is over?”

Ace opened his one eye and glared at them for waking him up. He took a peek at his phone told them that 13 minutes left then he went back to sleep.

13 more minutes… It seemed like they started the class hours ago and it still had 13 more minutes. As (Y/N) waited the time to pass, they kept glancing at the globe above the shelf as if the abnormal mark on it was calling for them.

Finally, the class was over and it was lunchtime. The gang went to the cafeteria and was waiting in the line, chatting about the assignments Trein gave after he saw people sleeping. (Y/N) was having fun at their expense because they didn’t get an assignment for being awake during the class. Ace, Deuce and Grimm were complaining about the amount of pages they were going to write, which was making (Y/N) crack. They turned their head to the side to conceal their chuckle. While they were turning back, a shape on the wall caught their eyes. There on the wall between the torch and the column stood the 2 small circles being connected to the bigger circle, just like the one they saw during the class. This one was bigger since it could have been seen from distance.

Before (Y/N) could dwell on the shape anymore, the line moved and it was their turn to grab the food. They dismissed the thoughts about the shape, thinking that they saw wrong. It was food time and there was no need to think about anything else.

After getting their lunch, the gang went over to sit at their usual table. “I think you should have gotten an assignment too, (Y/N).” Ace talked before taking a bite out of his meal. “You weren’t sleeping but you weren’t paying attention either. Right, Deuce?”

Deuce was in the middle of chewing his meal when Ace tried to include him in the discussion. He answered after gulping, “They managed to stay awake. I think that deserves an award.”

Ace’s face cringed, “Traitor.” He then turned to Grimm tp get his support. “C’mon~ You must agree with me.” Unfortunately for him, Grimm was too busy chunking the food down his throat, completely ignoring Ace who finally shut up after getting no support.

“I’ll help you pick up the books since I’m a supportive friend.” (Y/N) said cheekily, chuckling afterward. They really needed to go the library too. Grimm needed the books to finish the assignment and he wasn’t capable of carrying them with his tiny paw-paws.

Their stomach grumbled, reminding them to eat sustenance. After (Y/N) finished eating, they pushed their tray further onto the table so they could have space to put their hands on while they waited others to be done with their food as well. There, on the table, was another symbol, the 3 circles one looking almost identical to the others they saw. They openly stared at the symbol, tracing the outline with their fingers. Am I imaging things? The one on the globe could be a stain and the one on the wall could be the deformation of the brick. And this one… Maybe a mistake of the carpenter. Though, it is strange to see mistakes such as this in the NRC.

They must have zoned out too much because Deuce was tapping them on the shoulder. “Our next class is about the start.”

“If you want, we can leave you alone with the table. Seems like you are falling in love with it.” Ace quipped as he took his tray from the table and started walking to the trash.

“Jerk…” (Y/N) mumbled under their breath.

“Hey, henchperson!” Grimm was pulling their sleeve. “Carry me!” It was annoying that Grimm was giving them comment but he was small and cute so they didn’t mind carrying him occasionally. They allowed Grimm to climb on their shoulder and took both his and their trays to throw away the trash and put them to where the dirty trays are collected.

After putting the trays, they exited the cafeteria, then changed into the sports uniform in the locker room. The moment the bell rang, Vargas told everyone to start doing warm-ups, followed by 10 laps around the field and 30 pushups. (Y/N) held themselves back from groaning, not wanting to increase the number of laps or pushups.

(Y/N) was only human and not the most athletic person in the world and they doubted even the most athletic person could run 10 laps without stopping for a moment to take a breath. They sat on the grass, trying to adjust their breathing as they were looking around. They had to admit the sports field had a perfectly splendid sight with all the shades of green.

They were about to get up and continue on the track when they spotted a sign on one of the bushes. 3 circles again? It was dark green colored, standing out on the bushes. Was it always there or is my brain playing tricks on me and making me see things? They decided to check the sign from a closer distance to make sure it is real.

“(Y/N)! 2 more laps for trying to sneak away!” (Y/N) startled as Vargas’ voice boomed on the field. Damn it! They just got punished because the sign distracted them. “You will have two more if you keep standing there!”

(Y/N) knew there was no point in arguing against Vargas unless they wanted to add more laps as punishment so they ignored the sign and went back on the track. I will take a closer look after the class.

Unfortunately for (Y/N), they were too exhausted to move a finger, let alone have the energy to examine the weird symbol after the class ended. They just wanted to get back to Ramshackle, take shower, eat junk food and never get up from the bed but they still had one more stop to make, the library. Because of Grimm’s actions, they needed to walk more. God damn it… I can’t feel my legs.

Finally, they reached the library and began browsing for the book. Grimm started looking at the book on the computer and find which aisle it was located, meanwhile (Y/N) sat on one of the seats as they waited for him. Yeet, I hope we don’t need to get one of those floating books. What is even their purpose? Students would spend extra effort to see the title of the book and waste time. Or are they here for aesthetics? They sighed, lowering their head. What an unnecessary way of using magic… They had to admit the library was impressive, having all those books while looking at the endless corridor of the library. As Grimm was still looking for the book, they turned their attention to the other objects of the library. None of the lamps were in the same shape and the columns had different designs. One of them had frequent dots while the other more scattered dots. Their attention turned to the other column between Aisle I and II which had larger dots than the others.

Wait for a second… Is that? (Y/N) got up from their seat and stepped towards that column, crouching to see the sign better. Are you kidding me? Here too? Nope! This is just some random symbol, there is no way, it is the same one I saw in other places. Besides, all other columns have dots. Coincidentally, this one had two circles connected to a bigger one. (Y/N) was determined to just forget about it since they knew it would be a ridiculous idea for these signs to have a pattern.

“Hey Henchperson, I found the name of the book now bring me it.” Grimm ordered them as usual. Normally, (Y/N) would teach him some manner but they were too tired to care so they asked which aisle the book was in so they can grab it and go back to Ramshackle.

As soon as Grimm told them the number of the aisle and the book and the color of the book as well, (Y/N) didn’t wait for Grimm and just went to grab it. They were looking at the shelf numbers in that disorganized aisle. Libraries are supposed to be tidy and organized. Why is everything in this school so chaotic? And who even color codes the books?! This should be a crime!

“Alright green color and number 4…” They whispered faintly, looking at all the shades of green and number 4 then checking the title. After checking a couple of books, their attention turned to 3rd shelf. “Ah there you are, The Developments in the Last 100 years. Finally, I can go to my bed.” Whilst they were reaching for the book, the red book with golden marks caught their attention. The book wasn’t titled, having only shapes on it, that 3 circles shape was one of them. Maybe the book is about the meaning of this symbol. I’ll check it out after resting. They grabbed both Grimm’s book and the red colored one and walked towards Grimm. Together, they checked out the books from the librarian and head over to Ramshackle.

(Y/N) couldn’t wait to get read the strange book so that they would know they aren’t seeing unordinary things. As soon as they entered their dorm, Grimm dashed to the kitchen saying that sports class and the library made him hungry. They were also hungry and would never say no to some snacks. They put the books on the coffee table in the lounge before joining Grimm.

Grimm and (Y/N) brought their snacks to the lounge and sat on the couch, chatting while eating their respective food though Grimm tried to take what’s on their plate 5 times at least. After finishing their food, (Y/N) leaned back on the couch and stretched themselves out. Then they just looked around the lounge. It looked way more different than the first night they stayed there. Now everything was tidy and organized. Dare they said, it was cozy and the fireplace just increased the coziness of Ramshackle.

Hold up… The clock on the fireplace caught their eye and they got up to see it better. This age-old clock has that symbol too. I can understand the others since they are fairly new but this dorm hasn’t been occupied for decades. They wondered if there are more signs in the lounge so they turned around, their eyes scanning the room quickly. There was another mark in the lounge, on the painting hanging above the door. Hmmm, that could be the painter’s signature or something.

“Why are you acting weird?” Grimm asked after burping. Ew!

“Nothing nothing… I’ll just go take shower then nap. You do Trein’s assignment. I’m not going to lower my score because of you.” (Y/N) wasn’t going to tell Grimm about the symbols before they were certain that there was a pattern with it. Now they were going to search upstairs if there were more signs while Grimm was busy downstairs then took shower because the smell of sweat was killing their nostrils. “And don’t even think about slacking off or you won’t sleep on the bed tonight.”

With that, (Y/N) took the red book and headed towards their bedroom, putting the book on the small table near the armchair. Then they took off their shoes to not make noise as they searched the rooms for that damned sign.

tl;dr: a comparison between something taken from BL2 and a thing taken from Bounty of Blood. more spoilery tl;dr below the cut.

also the siren thing is not spoilers so i’ll share it here for anyone curious, it’s just this: siren tattoos are blue but when lily absorbs eridium in 2, they turn pinkish/purple. just like how vaults do from bl1 to bl2. they’re white/blue in bl1, then purple-pink in bl2 (and tps), y’know, after Eridium begins erupting from the ground. just a neat little detail i noticed that im not entirely sure was intentional but im gonna believe it is.

tl;dr: Gythian Blood = Core and the Ruiner is of Eridian Origin even tho everyone in the DLC likes to say it was created with Jakobs’ bioengineering. disclaimer: idk if I’ve found every hidden ECHO so I may be missing a few things but I have done every side quest and took ample screenshots of all important dialogue in the DLC : )

“man i just sat here for like 15 minutes staring at my keyboard mentally comparing core and eridium like the dumb bitch i am. 

it's not like we can do an actual comparison because we have no idea what the natural fauna of gehenna was like before jakobs came and mutated everything with core unlike pandora where we know what skags and rakk and shit were like BEFORE the eridium crust erupted. 

altho!!! there's a neat comparison between joey ultraviolet and rose. like obviously he wasn't getting tattoos and was just doing lines of crushed up eridium but the point stands they both have glowy eyes and unique powers so i don't necessarily think this means rose is a siren just because she has magic powers especially when we know she got the whistling passed down to her from her grandmother. 

especially because we've never seen a siren interact with core before. altho that leaves the question we have seen core tattoos now what are eridium tattoos like? actually rose's tattoos were on her right arm obviously she isn't a siren as we know them right now (I saw a post on reddit where people thought rose was a siren) 

of course that brings up the point perhaps siren tattoos ARE eridium tattoos. but then we hear the general's log about how the devil riders were tattooing a man with core and blood so obviously they're not ‘naturally’ occurring unlike siren tattoos. so odds are they're probably not equivalents but something interesting i thought of while thinking about this is how well siren tattoos compare to the Vaults from borderlands 1 and borderlands 2″

anyway. this is all ive been thinking about. yes yes i know guardian takedown post but! >:( im still salty even tho this update has been lovely (outside of Blane not getting his correct damage scaling ‘till today......). so i’ll do that at my own damn pace. now let me elaborate so i can sleep at night lmao

there are some things i wanna note

1) People throughout the DLC say the Ruiner was created by the Jakobs corp (the company) thru bio-engineering but I’m 99% sure that’s not true. The paperwork seems to me like they found the egg somewhere on Gehenna and decided to roll and experiment with it like all corporations do when they find weird alien shit. so maybe they experimented with whatever was inside the egg, but I don’t think they actually created it entirely

2) The Ruiner’s design reminds me a lot of the Warrior.

3) Core immediately reminded me of Gythian Blood from Guns Love and Tentacles and I don’t think that’s coincidence to have 2 back-to-back DLCs where the big bad is focused on green death juice. I think Gythian Blood and Core are of the same stuffs.

4) Therefore, I think the Ruiner is (mostly) of Eridian origin (if you haven’t already guessed). 

This gives us an amazing look into how the Eridians actually create their beasts!!! And I’m so happy they showed us this.

(side note, Interitus Regina (the long name for Ruiner) literally means Destruction Queen and I think that’s beautiful <3)

i mean the idea that they plunge them from orbit to create an explosion similar to a nuke is fucking horrifying (but holy shit I love it so much ahhh it’s so cool!!!!)

the one side line from Oletta about how the company couldn’t control the Ruiner deffo makes me double down on this theory. I’m not entirely sure how Rose’s grandma knew about the whistling (I don’t think I’ve found every echo log in that area YET), but I would bet it was part of the testing given how many fuckin’ tape players they have throughout the facility. The Warrior was controlled by verbal commands via Jack, so it’s possible that the Ruiner was intended to be controlled similarly, but Jakobs intervention (or something like the way Rose hatched it) fucked it up.

now we know the Warrior was created to protect the Vault of the Destroyer (hmm.) so what the heck was the Ruiner created for? Ruiner is a name given to it by Jakobs/the people of Gehenna so we can’t really assume, but then again the monster names are pretty apt in this series even tho they probably technically shouldn’t be. 

it was only an egg, so maybe it was another test of Core? A Vault Monster incubating until it was ready to protecc and attacc but was never hatched because the Eridians ‘sacrificed’ themselves before it could? (I’m still not convinced the Eridians are the good guys. Listen. LISTEN. I definitely think Gythian was a test/use of Core from the Eridians. We see in Bounty of Blood that core seems to mutate more the physical (and occasionally mental) parts of people, like with the crew challenges u do for Juno with all the weird hybrid people and whatnot. Gythian had the whole ‘the heart still beats’ thing going on (which is definitely a physical mutation if i’ve ever seen one), plus the whole, you know, mind control and shit. Which is p similar to what the menta gnats can do when charged with Infused Core. And keep in mind in BLaT we see DAHL notes on what happens to test subjects when injected with Gythian Blood. They mutated physically and went insane.

What im saying is Sirens and Eridium and Elements are connected, so what does Core equal? body/mind sure but are there unique creatures for core (yes holy shit I’m not talking about h2o au for once and FINALLY they gave us a canon name for the green stuff!!!). If not, I’d love to see a Siren interact with Core to see what it does to them. seriously why hasn’t tannis interrupted us yet. horrible excuse for a science lover (kidding kidding, I love her). I’d also really love a fuller rundown on what the hell Rose’s powers were. Because the whistling thing seemed to just be her grandma’s thingie passed down to her from her mom

I’d love to know if the core gives her immediate future sight or just increased perception or reaction times. there’s a huge difference but she seemed to be able to shoot the gun outta the sheriff’s hand near immediately and it seems kinda implied its because of the core (or at least because her eyes are glowing green)

there’s a possibility she has some unique core powers/possibly implants because of her relations to the project in the first place, or as leader of the devil riders after looting the facility. it’s really hard to say without more info and like i said im not sure if i missed an ECHO or two or not regarding her backstory :( 

Her hair is also green which I just noticed. Maybe she has core powers bc her grandmother got suuuuuuuuper irradiated/influenced working on project horizons and it passed down thru her n Rose’s mom, to Rose. Tannis does have a line about Sirens having unique hair colors and, if Sirens are linked to Eridium, perhaps those linked to Core also have unique hair color. Could also explain why only Rose seems to have those whistling powers. That said we don’t really see anyone else trying that whistling thing out afaik and idk if it was, like, a special ability or a certain tone/ditty or w h a t. 

i know being vague with everything gives them more creative freedom to create amazing characters and scenarios, but dammit I want A N S W E R S.

Ahhh the lore, the nuclear aspect, the a e s t h e t i c (seriously, have I mentioned how much I adore Trigun???), the art, the music, the cryoslinger, the fact I can bust out going beeEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAans like Ray Chase at any time and it will MAKE SENSE. I love all of it.

I just hope when she comes back she gets to meet Captain Scarlett. I’d love to watch their interactions plus pirates and or ninjas. That’s 2 DLC villains now that have vanished without a trace. And I like Captain Scarlett way more than Rose (seriously I spent the entire beginning of the DLC complaining about how her voice bothered me- I was so happy she was a villain, I was hoping that was the case).

short answer: not in my top 5 but i think it’s good

long answer: i have some criticisms but it’s definitely not as bad as people say it is, my criticisms are just what people usually complain about

the bad:

i couldnt get behind the specifics of the motion controls. also the game is probably really inaccessible to people with far limited moving capabilities than me. at least with the wii version of twilight princess you could attack how ever you wanted and it didnt require much movement, and even if that was too much there was always the gamecube and eventually wii u versions to play instead. the switch is much more accessible than the wii so that’s why sksw should get a switch port, if not a hd remake.

my opinions on fi are pretty much the same as chuggaaconroy said in his playthrough, in that fi is a good character story-wise but gameplay wise she’s awful. i’ll give her the benefit of the doubt though as in terms of the console games midna was always gonna be a tough act to follow.

i wish that there was more to do around skyloft. they put such a huge emphasis on flying your loftwing but liek……there’s nothing there. also why did they put so much focus in the opening to establish the bond between link and his loftwing only for said loftwing to never be mentioned again after the race and only appears to fly you around the few areas skyloft does have or to fly you to the surface. you can’t even name your loftwing to make it more unique from all the others like you can with epona in tp (i swear this isn’t a praise tp post disguised as a skyward sword criticism post).

also that part in the last quarter where you back to each of the surface areas and do some kind of activity for the dragons was fucking dumb.

also fuck the imprisoned and fuck its toes in particular.

the good:

i’ve always considered sksw to be the prettiest zelda game. it’s watercolour palette is beautiful. i honestly dont know how they could make it any prettier if it were to get a hd remake. my only complaint for the art style is that link and zelda specifically look kinda weird, and it’s not loz’s usual “weird but endearing” kind of design. idk something about their designs in particular just throw me off.

the items are really unique and fun. none of them are on the same level as the spinner (maybe i am using this post to secretly gush about tp) but they’re definitely worthy of praise. and unlike tp, at least in sksw from what i can remember is that these items actually get used outside of the dungeons their gotten in.

the temples are some of the best in the series. some of the bosses could’ve been refined a bit more but i really like the look, concepts and puzzles of each of the dungeons. also it gets bonus points for having the first good water dungeon of the series, which is something it holds over twilight princess lol.

ghirahim is the best zelda villain dont @ me. he’s such a fun character while also being very disturbing and creepy, and tbh he made demise kind of disappointing in turn because that beefy boy didn’t even have 1% the character that ghirahim had.

that’s all i can think of atm but even if it looks like skyward sword is a mixed bag for me i do lean more towards liking it.

he sadly was out of the room to make some copies of the music, but when he returned he was !!!!!!!!!

OH YEAH LUIGI!!!!!!!

DO I LIKE THEM:F U C K YES I DO

5 GOOD QUALITIES:1. He’s so humble. Like, even though he’s been on lots of adventures, he’s been the face of several memes, and EVEN HAD AN ENTIRE YEAR NAMED AFTER HIM, Luigi doesn’t let any of what’s he’s done go to his head. He’s still the same old sweetie he’s always been.2. Luigi is never afraid to get a little emotional sometimes. In this day and age, people are concerned about toxic masculinity and how harmful it is when you tell guys to “man up” and basically turn in a stoic and emotionless rock. But Luigi doesn’t roll with that shit. He’s as sensitive as he can get and the people he’s close to don’t think any less of him as a person or as a hero.3. This dude is actually super talented. People talk about how Mario is the dude who picks new shit up easily whenever he tries it for the first time, and that’s all well and good, sure, but consider Luigi. He’s pretty much on the same level as his bro, but just picks up on different abilities than Mario does.4. How could I make a list without mentioning his biggest talent: being the highest jumper in the Mushroom Kingdom? That, my friends, is an achievement in and of itself, and an achievement one should be very proud of.5. Finally, this is the most important one of all: Luigi is, without a doubt, one of the most dynamic characters in the Mario series. He’s been on lots of adventures that require him to be a leader and take action by himself, and throughout all of them, he grows so much. Look how far Luigi has come as a ghostbuster ghost hunter since 2001! And look how much progress he’s made with every “Mario and Luigi” came since “Superstar Saga” was released for the first time on the GBA! He’s slowly coming into his own, realizing the awesome potential he has and turning it into something amazing. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for him!

3 BAD QUALITIES:1. For the love of all things good and pure, Nintendo needs to chill with the running gag about people forgetting Luigi’s name sometimes. They tend to go overboard with that joke a lot to the point where it’s not funny anymore.2. Remember how I said Luigi’s been doing amazing becoming his own person? Well, sometimes he discredits himself a little too much. Luigi, you can humble-brag at least a little bit every once in a while, maybe mention it in passing on occasion if you don’t want to dwell on your achievements too much. Give yourself a little credit!3. I don’t think Luigi fully realizes how brave of an individual he actually is. Sometimes being brave doesn’t mean you’re not afraid of anything. Sometimes being brave doesn’t even mean overcoming your fears FOR GOOD. Being brave means looking at your worst fears straight in the face over and over again, quivering in your boots and crying your eyes out, while still being able to surmount them even if you never fully overcome that fear.

FAVORITE EPISODE/ETC:The entirety of “Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon”. It gives him a solo adventure that he has some experience in, even though he’s still very afraid of ghosts throughout the entire night he spends keeping them at bay. But holy heck, the character development material in that game is SO. GOOD. Slowly he comes a little more confident in himself with every passing mission, and even E. Gadd is quick to comment on how well he did. And the best part? Mario calls him “number 1″ upon his rescue! U G H I’M SO PROUD OF HIM

tl;dr: we read the entire end user agreement DAHL thrusts upon us for using the ECHO device, talk about some stuff like how (spoilers) it seems like Lilith will be getting her powers back at the end of the game, and a voice line Lily says that sounds like “Tyreen took my powers. it’s like Tannis said: [inaudible] Siren” (altho im not 100% sure on the [inaudible] part because 1) it sounds weird and 2) there’s a drum beat and also the devs are talking over her, the Siren part seems fairly accurate because of the way her mouth moves). so you know. im gonna be agonizing over that until i can hear what she says. ive already spent an hour just repeating it over and over. i nearly fell asleep lol

we’re gonna start with the moze gameplay (the first 14 minutes of bl3) because chronologically it’s first in both timeline and release date

im also convinced this intro is going to be a mirror of Borderlands 1. i stg if it starts out with the first few notes of Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked and then swaps songs I’m going to lose my mind

also also, the order is totally going to mimic the bl1 one. Fl4k = Mordecai, Amara = Lilith, Moze = Roland, Zane = Brick. We even have Lilith taking Angel’s spot as the mysterious voice in our heads, and probably Marcus driving, AND being dropped off at a bus stop.

bet the reason they changed it from ‘Moze as the Bot Jock’ to ‘Moze as the Gunner’ is because it fits under ‘Roland as the Soldier’ better. Also, ‘Zane Flynt as Himselfs’ would be a play off ‘Brick as Himself’. Amara as the Siren is obvious, and ‘Mordecai as the Hunter’ vs ‘Fl4k as the Beastmaster’ is pretty similar as well, given Fl4k has all those Hunter skills.

i know i mentioned in this post that the Great Vault may be already opened, but it could also just be a Vault they’re planning on opening and using the propaganda to convince the cultists to help them find it.

either way, elevating the Vault to a higher state (god/heaven/whatever) makes sense if you’re running a cult.

btw there is a hidden chest in the scaffolding to the left of the door, if you’re interested in grabbing some better guns before shiv. personally, i’ll be using the toy guns.

lilith gives you a grenade mod for completing her mission! im really glad they are PUSHING through the tutorial/intro so you can get right into the game. bl2′s ‘intro’ of all these tutorials was brutal. especially waiting to unlock your action skill.

in 3 you get your action skill automatically at level 2!!! which is insane, i love it! they’re jumping right into it, it’s great. and they seem to be pushing for you to get all the stuff you need right away. 

it’s curious to note that in bl3 we get our class mods at the end of the Promethea demo (after Gigamind), since in bl2 you get your first (usually?) after the hunting the firehawk mission and both seem to take place immediately after we get to the ‘base of operations’ of the game (Sanctuary vs Sanctuary-III).

yep that quest is 100% in line with the quest marker. 

i imagine From the Ground Up may be discovering where the Vault Map/Key actually is? maybe bringing people to the Recruitment Center (notably Tannis)

for this scene. i hope this takes place after the HBC, because i seriously... can’t imagine the twins showing up, taking the Vault Map, bringing it to the HBC, and then NOT taking Lilith’s powers/trying to kill Lily and accidentally taking her powers. it just doesn’t make sense, Vault Hunters be damned, we are level 2 they could melt us easy peasy. 

If anything, it feels like we COULD find the Vault Map in the Recruitment Center, Tannis tries to activate it/fix it, we find out it’s mega broke, and then the Sun Smashers show up and take it. but i seriously can’t imagine Lilith nor the new VHs allowing that to happen while they’re still there. maybe if Tannis sends us to do something while Lilith is gathering other CR members? then it could make sense if they attack while Tannis is alone with the Key...

we end up finding something in Shiv’s room that shows/helps us realize the Sun Smashers bringing the Vault Map to the Calypsos. tho this would mean the quest From the Ground Up is SUPER short and I imagine it’s not. Maybe we raid a camp of theirs like the one in front of Sanc-III with the bridge/ramp? We need to be about level 6 before we go and we start From the Ground Up at 2 so there’s obviously something DEEP we’re missing here. maybe this is a mission where we go gather the other Crimson Raiders? i love the quest objective thing, it looks like we will be able to swap through our quests with the push of a button! also im curious why exactly we’re going to promethea right away. i wonder if the twins say something about moving there after getting the vault map/lilith’s powers, or if we hear from rhys. im expecting something about the vault map, since our vh will admit they don’t know rhys at all when talking to lorelei. but for some reason we need to be within the city limits? since lily says ellie got us within the city limits. 

hmmmmmm. okay, okay, maybe the map was trying to lead us to promethea for vault reasons during that short amount of time that we had it and it was working. maybe promethea is what we see when tannis is activating the key during that one cutscene? ohhh shit how dope would it be if we got that fucking easter egg message? omg “Children of the Vault. Come to Promethea. We are not on Pandora anymore. Tannis is not what she seems. Do not open the Vaults.” and everyone is like ‘uh did that thing just mention Tannis by name??’ and now it’s REALLY important to get the map back just so we can figure out wtf it’s trying to tell us. 

i will question how ‘Tannis is not what she seems’ would affect character relationships, especially if it’s said so early in the game. so perhaps we only hear the first part of the message. maybe it’s corrupted because it was recently broken. iunno. just playing around with ideas. the canon of this game is like flarp putty until sept. 13th

anyway moving on because this is literally the first f r a m e of the video

i like that you can see pandora’s eridian scar. if the destroyer is speaking through eridium to people, it’s gonna bust outta the side of this planet like you wouldn’t fucking believe lmao. eridium is a window to the soul and if you stare long enough into its glossy, shining sides, the destroyer stares back

that or it’s just like a beacon, slowly spreading its influence across the universe. but i like the idea that the destroyer can waltz out of a big enough hunk of eridium. so it will bust out of pandora’s eridium scar. F in chat for pandora but also lmfao the amount of tentacles and rage would be unparalleled.

reality is that the twins are probably farming this scar for eridium to turn into slag for multiple purposes. like brainwashing their cultists, giving them powers, and ensuring their guns have their manufacturer’s quirk (im getting to this in my next post bc im just gonna compile all the ign gun videos into one big post)

the floor art is different from the actual sanc-iii demo. i mention this first in my behind closed doors panel analysis, but im gonna mention it again because this is ~official~. the floor list on the first walkthru of sanc-iii we got had the names of all the crimson raiders and lines leading to their shops. so we had the infirmary/tannis, marcus, moxxi, etc listed on the floor. i imagine this new sanc-iii will change as we get more people on board or if we do a sort of re-decoration of the ship.

also also, it’s cool to see that we have 4 rooms on the minimap, likely one for each of the VHs (and your coop buddies). ive seen speculation that the other, non-played VHs will hang out in their rooms when you’re not playing them, and tbh i really hope this is the case.

we also know this version of sanctuary-iii is after pandora, so there are no promethea citizens aboard yet. which makes me double certain the first sanc-iii video we got takes place either after endgame (explaining why Lily has her tattoos back) or right after Athenas (explaining why Maya is there). which... i mean... spoilers, guys.

on the bright side: bank upgrades increase capacity by 5. with a base of 10, and 8 upgrades, we have 50 slots to fill. which is a big leap from the original 24. it is still a shame we have to share these across characters, tho

offline cultist stream? makes me think the CoV really was trying to steal/take over sanc-iii from the crimson raiders and we went to go take it (back?) in Taking Flight. either the CoV found/ordered Sanc-III, or the crimson raiders were building it/fixing it up, their stronghold got taken over, and the CoV were prepping it for takeover.

Thoughts on Nintendo Switch

Yup. I've been a Nintendo fan since 1990 (the earliest my poor kid ass could finally get an NES), most of my life, and I love a lot of their franchises. But this past gen they really lost me a bit, really damaged my trust in them as a company. Wii U is underrated in some respects, but it's also a console I ran out and bought at launch (the only new home console I've EVER yet done that for), and while I remained hopeful for literally years that they would recover and pick things up and that Wii U would be awesome...it never was. They never did fully recover.

Games like Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. were amazing in some ways, but then totally let me down in others (no real Battle Mode, not any kind of even watered down Adventure Mode). There were games that were cool, and fun, but hardly amazing, like Lego City, and NSMBU, and Mario 3D World, and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, and Yoshi's Wooly World. And THEN there were games that were, to me, outright massive disappointments, for various reasons, like Pikmin 3 and Star Fox Zero, both games/franchises I had been waiting for another entry in forever.

The cherry on top, if you will, to me, was Zelda. It may seem odd, or even silly, to some, but to ME, Zelda being a Wii U exclusive, and actually coming out in late 2015 or at least 2016, literally made the difference for me, between feeling like the system had been a fully worthwhile purchase for me, and not. This Zelda, art style aside (which is fine, pretty even, just not my ideal), SEEMS like exactly the type of Zelda game I've been wanting for a long time. I love Twilight Princess, and it is still, at this point, my favorite 3D Zelda, but it still had flaws, namely in how damn SLOW it is to really get going in it for the first several hours. Once you DO get going, it's amazing, for the most part, but still could have been better. TP actually does have a fairly large world, for it's time certainly, and most of the near 80 hours I put into my original game file (the GC version), was me dicking around and exploring, in BETWEEN dungeons and fetch quests.

To me, some Zelda dungeons are cool, but honestly, I don't play Zelda for dungeons and boss battles. That isn't what Zelda is about, or what does (or at least SHOULD) make it great, to me. To me, Zelda, starting from the original game, is about exploration. It's an "adventure" game, because you wander around, and explore, going on an adventure. It HAS action, and other elements. But at it's core, Zelda is about exploring your environment, or at least should be. So having said that, the very IDEA, to me, of a Zelda whose major focus, is NOT dungeons, but rather, providing you with a massive land, to just go EXPLORE? That sounds like a dream come true. And to go one even better, they’re ACTUALLY adding the ONE thing I’ve said they need to, and wished they would, ever since Ocarina of Time came out: MANUAL JUMPING!!! I’m fucking stoked for that alone. I'm certain there will probably be SOMETHING or other I don't love about this game. But IF it comes close to living up to even half of the POTENTIAL that the idea, and what little I've seen, actually has? Then it might very well overtake TP as my favorite 3D Zelda of all time.

And to me, THAT type of game, THAT massive, epic HD Zelda, as a system exclusive, and a timely release, would have made Wii U feel fully "Worth It" to me. It would have made the sheer lack of third party retail support, and even, in my opinion, the rather lackluster FIRST party support, of the entire console, feel like it was worth tolerating. There is not a single game on Wii U I can personally point to, and say "Here, THIS is why I own this console, THIS is THE game to own for it". Not one. Every other Nintendo home console has had one. Breath of the Wild easily would have been that game for Wii U, for me. Except that they pushed it back so they could treat it as a Switch launch game. So the Wii U release, even though that is almost 100% the version I'll be getting, as I won't be rushing out to get Switch at launch, feels like an afterthought. I just think BotW should have been the crowning masterpiece for Wii U. It should have been the console's last hurrah, going out with a bang. Instead, it just so happens to also be getting a version of the game, and especially considering how sparse and sad 2016 was for Wii U, the system is going out with a quiet whimper.

I won't be getting a Switch at launch, not only because nothing really GRABS me that they've shown for launch, but also because I was incredibly burnt by my Wii U owning experience. The first Nintendo system that made me feel that way. And AS a lifelong "Nintendo Guy", I don't like that. Don't like feeling animosity or disappointment towards a company that has given me SO many great games and memories in years past. But it is how I feel, with good reason. So while I am encouraged and positive about some elements of Switch that I've seen, I also am far from "sold" on it, or the fact that Nintendo has actually learned from their mistakes, yet. I certainly dislike the fact that now we're going to be expected to pay for online play in games we've already paid for, a shady practice that Nintendo now seems to have finally caved into. In general, it seems as if the console is going to be rather pricey anyway, the core price, the accessories, the tiny SD cards we'll be limited to, paid online play, etc. That doesn't exactly warm the cockles of  a gamers' heart.

But what it comes down to, ultimately, is games. Which I feel Wii U was sorely lacking. So I definitely feel that I need to see more. A LOT more. I need them to prove that they're not just going to have a STEADY flow of games within the first year, but for years to come. The GC, for all it's flaws, had decent third party support, and a release list that saw, on average, at LEAST a couple of retail games a month, often more, for it's first several years. The Wii, for it's flaws, also had decent third party support (even though it missed out on some multi-platform releases), and in it's first year on the market alone, Nintendo ITSELF on average released no less than 1 game per month, for that ENTIRE first year. THAT was strong support. It also remains to be seen just how serious this "third party support" will be this time, and whether or not they'll all just jump ship again like they did with Wii U.

So I need them to prove that they're going to at least get back to something closer to that. If Switch really is going to be the replacement for BOTH Wii U and 3DS, that they're no longer going to have two separate systems, but instead one unified platform, then unless they make major cuts to studios, they SHOULD be able to produce a steady flow of two systems' worth of games, being made for one system. If Nintendo expects my money in the future, they need to re-earn my trust, and re-establish themselves as a company that I feel like I can rely on.

And so, yesterday I passed my driving test, and it left me with mixed emotions. I'm happy because I passed on my first try. I have always had high expectations of myself and I know that I want myself to pass on my first try too. However, during the whole course of driving, I have constantly felt like a failure, like someone who couldn't drive. While most people took 20+ lessons, I took close to 40 lessons before my instructors and I felt that I was ready for the test. I'm sad because... I miss so many things about driving centre. My instructors, my car, the travelling (especially the looking forward to driving after a terrible day at work), the driving with L plate on, with instructor next to me, with an assistive brake that could save me anytime... sigh, it was such a bittersweet farewell with my instructors yesterday): This driving exam was such a traumatic one for me... I think I should journal it down here. My warm up was at 1.45pm and my instructors told me to report at 1.30pm. I ubered down from work and reached at 1.20pm. I reported to the warm up room. They took my IC and training book and told me to wait. Soon, a warm up instructor picked me up and we went onto the courses. Everything was good. I mean it was really fun that I could cut queue! Giving way to others has finally paid back! So anyways, there weren't much mistakes. Only had to do correction during crank course and a little during vertical parking (my biggest nemesis)! Hit the roads and everything was fine. Went back to the centre and he brought me to the TP centre to deposit my IC. He briefed me on what would happen next and then we went to the waiting room. Waited and waited. Soon, someone came and called my name. I followed him out and recited my IC number. I lead him to the car and settled in the car. *pretend to adjust mirrors*. TP suddenly said alot of things - 'show me how you check blindspot', 'remember that everytime you reverse, you got to check the back so that you won't lose marks', 'take your time with the courses and listen to my instructions', 'don't be nervous m, treat it like a normal lesson'. Lastly, 'if you're ready, let's go'. Turned into circuit and first stop, parallel parking. As it was such an awkward turn into the parallel parking zone, I was too close to the right. THANKFULLY I DIDN'T HIT THE KERB! Barely made it in and the moment I put the gear to 'P' and applied handbrake, he said 'you didn't check the back. Don't you know how to follow instructions?' *bite lips in regret*. Moved on to the slope, which was another very awkward turn. Ended up in the middle of the slope when I was supposed to be on either side. *bite lips again in alot of regret*. Never mind, did the usual checks and signals and went on. As I reached the bottom of the slope, there were just so many cars and I couldn't turn. Stayed there for 3 mins and somehow, managed to drive out from there. Along the bend, the command came 'turn to 13 (response ramp)'. Response ramp was fine. Though I felt that I was too close to the right. But at least I cleared that! Went on along the bend to vertical parking. Did my safety checks and parked. PHEW NO PROBLEMS KNOW! though i think i only has a 1cm gap between my right door and the kerb. But at least, never strike or mount! Phewphewphew! Turned into S course which went well too. Went on to crank course and though I didnt strike kerb, he commented that my turning angle was too wide and it was very risky, almost strike kerb. With an anxious heart, he asked me to turn right as I leave the crank course and hit the general circuit. As I was driving along the circuit, he said 'can you drive, please press the accelerator' and so I did. That point reached - that fateful E-brake point. I saw that there was no car behind me *sian* and he kept asking me to accelerate and there was a sudden 'BANG'. I braked immediately and thought that the car was gonna flip forward know! Thankfully I didn't scream! Signalled, checked and went off. Turned out of the circuit into the main road. At first glance my thought was 'shit, the road's kinda busy with heavy vehicles'. Turn left onto the main road and was given instructions to turn left again. There was a zebra crossing and a give way sign. My instructors told me if there was no car turning into that lane, i don't need to stop at the give way line. There was no one at the zebra crossing so i slowed down and checked for any traffic coming and didn't see anyone turning into my lane. Did my turn left checking and turned into my lane. TP said 'why didn't you stop? There was a motorbike coming into your lane!' And in my head it was 'oh shit' once again. *bite lips in regret again*. At this point of time, i thought i failed already cause I kinda 'caused harm' and it was worth an immediate failure. So, i just went on the test with a failed-person mentality. Throw back to talking to my social worker in the morning, what's the worse thing about failing, she asked me. And our conclusion, just pay another $600. Then we did lane change to the right to do a u-turn. He told me off for my lane change. He said that I was swerving too much. U-turn was okay. Then lane changed again to the left and he said 'why did you change lane' and when i looked up, a car just broke down on the left lane, and so i had to change lane again. He made me change to the left and suddenly gave the next command, to turn right at the next junction. I did my silly mistake again, to swerve into the next lane instead of gradually going into the next lane. Did my right turn and returned back to the circuit to stop the car. We went to the second floor and he told me to sit at the TP centre. I was waiting at the TP centre for 5 mins and I saw alot of fellow testees going into this other room. Thinking back, I didn't clarify with him where I was supposed to go and so I thought he meant go into the room and take a seat. So I went in. He came in soon after and said 'eh you dont understand instructions is it? I asked you to wait outside' *bite lips* and apologised. We went thru my mistakes, with him doodling on my result slip. My head was too much in a mess to actually count the number of points I scored. As he went on nagging, i thought i failed my exam already. And it all sounded like I don't deserve to drive): just as i was about to resign to fate and say okay, i'm gonna redo, he suddenly said 'okay ,18 points, you passed' OMG DID I HEAR WRONGLY?! I smiled and thanked him although I felt like I was on the verge of tears. He left with his final pieces of advice and congratulated me. Told me to go outside and get my license done. I left the room, took my queue number, sat on the chair and burst out in tears. Pretty sure everyone around me was shocked. Cause only people who passed will be sitting at that area and people who passed would be happy right, why would anyone cry. So anyways, got my license settled, went back to the warm up room to get my refund done and to take my training book back and waited for 4pm to come so that I can settle the safety video. Done with the safety video and was trudging out of this place where I had so much fun for the past 5 months when I saw my instructor. I waved and ran towards him and showed him my result slip. Told him all the stupid mistakes I made and how I cried after everything. He said the TP was very lenient with me already and marks don't matter. What matters most is that I passed and got my license. Yupp, I DID IT(: Though it was quite traumatizing for me, it would be an experience I will never forget. i talked about a lot of things. i promise i linked them all together. somehow.

so we got the normal crystalisks that do explosive stuff

got Blue (the aptly named big blue crystalisk) that deals shock damage

(we also see a few more in hayter’s folly)

got Rouge the red one that deals fire damage

I’m honestly surprised we haven’t seen any green crystalisks since they’re pretty common in the caustic caverns.

anyway the reason im bringing this up now is because a very very long time ago (jesus christ, 2017) i had a theory that crystalisks were kinda like pets to the Eridians, like guard dogs of the ruins in the caustic caverns. which could explain why they were friendly (iirc Blue was even playing fetch with Booth) until Dahl started mining them

mostly cause of the guardian ruins everywhere

also, they show up in the Vault of the Warrior, as well. which is curious.

the other reason im bringing this up now is because im wondering if their crystals have any relation whatsoever to the purple crystals we see sprouting out of the ground in bl3.

they hang out in the ground when not active, mimicking said crystals, and there are yellow crystals sprouting out of the ground in bl2 that, when meleed, produce the same crystals crystalisks do when they die. (tho now im wondering if we’ve just been senselessly murdering crystalisk babies :|)

bonus: we know threshers are native to elpis, not pandora, and their blood is green. Crystalisk blood is blue, which could possibly hint at the fact they’re an alien species to Pandora. AFAIK rakk, skag, bullymong, stalker, and spiderant blood is all red. and so is bandit blood. (unless they’ve been huffing Eridium sludge like Zarpedon. then it glows purple i guess.)

also, interesting to note: we never got ‘explosive’ as an element with the sentinel and in bl3, explosive was taken out of the element list

you know how Siren tattoos also change color based on element?

sorry i would show amara’s green/corrosive tattoos BUT this was the leaked clip that i had on hand

ohhhh yeah.

now we know Siren tattoos are blue when using their base powers. according to amara, this blue means electricity is the ‘base’ element for sirens (which just plain isn’t true given what we’ve seen with maya and lilith, unless they show that further in bl3 where lilith uses phasewalk without her tattoos going red... which I’m guessing will not happen lol)

we know in the original borderlands the vault key is blue for the vault of the destroyer

in all it’s technological glory

then it changes to purple in bl2. and apparently, we even get red in bl3.

so i know what you’re thinking “well blue must be the base element then” but imma posit that it’s actually not

We know the sentinel, when it comes out of the Vault, the first element it is is ‘purple’ (aka slag/eridium i guess, since slag isn’t in TPS). which, as we said above, makes sense.

we know the Warrior was a biological weapon built/modified by the Eridians for... some reason. It was under complete control of whoever opened the Vault. (the warrior actually has 2 elements afaik, the slag tail/wings and the fire)

I wanna say we were SUPPOSED to open the Vault of the Warrior first. Then open the Vault of the Destroyer and annihilate it with our new cool biological weapon

so then the order would be purple -> blue -> uhhh something something

oh and Siren tattoos appear to always be purple when interacting with Eridium stuff

like when Lily touches the vault key in the Vault of the Warrior, her tattoos glow purple

when Lilith is being mind controlled by Jack/the collar/charging Eridium her tattoos are purple

etc etc

her tattoos glow purple during the final cutscene i believe. bonus i’m pretty sure the vault map was glowing white when inside hector. it was still purple on the outside tho soooo take that as you will. i had a picture but i removed it because i didn’t wanna spoil anything for anyone. the whispy bits do remind me of angel’s wings

when u fight a badass skag that’s been charged by an element and is implied to be the result of eridium runoff aka slag? mmm that’s the good shit.

Bloodwing?? her base color is purple. but jack is able to change her element based on outside stimuli (and, again, explosive isn’t actually seen as an element, just a joke... a really... fucked up... joke...)

we also know a lot of the bandits were mutated by the vault key (piece?) in sledge’s mine. might help explain burning psychos (the ones that are literally on fire). 

also maybe the eridian ruins are starting to give off ‘radiation’. you know how the original Eridian Ruins in BL1 were like white/blueish and then all the ones we find in BL2 are purple-ish? maybe they started charging up once the first Vault was opened and that allowed more and more bandits to start getting

oh also maybe krieg’s ability to breathe fire and light himself on fire since he was a hyperion experiment. dunno if they did slag testing on him or not but... all things considered... it’s a probably maybe. wasn’t his assassin’s assassin the woman in the ECHO logs you find around the WEP?

also Terry the thresher? probably mutated like hell from living in those Vault ruins. might explain the size. also threshers being from the moon might just give them the fire/wormhole abilities inherently. since apparently the moon is some top secret eridian base that can see the future. im not even surprised. also you know. terry drops e-tech stuff upon decimation.

anyway i think Pandora is a lot older than Elpis and that’s why Elpis appears super fucking high-tech compared to Pandora’s ruins.

so elpis was probably put in place to watch over Pandora, maybe the Destroyer and the Warrior’s fight or maybe even to predict the future of that fight. maybe the eridians got paranoid and were like ‘fuck this’ and vanished because they were told they couldn’t win.

i do go into that whole theory of ‘zarpedon saw what the twins are about to do in bl3 and jack ain’t shit’ in an older post of mine so i won’t go into it here, but that’s another option as to why the eridians just booked it the hell outta dodge

bonus: in tycho’s ribs, some of the glowy lights are not actually purple, they’re red-ish

which has me thinking about the glowing red Vault Map we see in the Dev trailer. wonder if that’s going to lead up to elpis

oh also im still not convinced eleseer isn’t found by going thru a wormhole/alternate dimension/pocket rip/whatever

like, you know how to fight the Sentinel you go inside that giant purple crystal that looks like/is probably eridium? and the arena is WAYYY bigger than it ought to be? and it looks like the outside is made out of glowing graph paper and sick guy fieri flames that’s probably supposed to imply some sort of technological feeling?

oh and it does the “lilith just yeeted u to bloodshot stronghold- just kidding’ effect! which... y’know. my only gripe with that is it actually does appear to be somewhere inside eleseer given if u look at the ceiling it does look to be the same sky you see outside eleseer... but where the fck is eleseer... is it in another dimension inside the moon? bc i still refuse to believe the entire moon is being supported by that area... wouldn’t you see the crust?? somewhere? and it being in another dimension would help explain the whole ‘yeah you’re exactly where you were five seconds ago... but also you’re not because you’re in this arena and it’s clipping except it’s not so even though the sky looks the same because you’re in the same exactly spot you were in 5 seconds ago, you’re actually not (but you are)’. because what the fuck my scrub brain can’t comprehend that!

but god i wanna know if the eridians were harnessing the power of eridium and learned how to create pocket dimensions using their technology and fuckin DID IT the mad lads. i mean isn’t that what Vaults are? just little rips in this dimension. it’s the good shit.

also i wanna know why the Destroyer seemed to have pockets of slag/eridium on it’s tentacles when he’s supposed to be the VILLAIN tm of bl1 and also the eridians. might help explain why eridium only starts appearing after you off that physical rendition of him. also [see that one post i made about the crystals being corpses].
