#btw this is why dazai sets him on atsushi #because atsushi is the reverse #he is entirely self preservation #he has trouble moving forward and he freezes #when dazai says âhe's better than youâ #that's what he means #he's saying see that? do you see that cowering weepy cat? that is the better extreme. #and then he keeps bringing them together because they need each other #atsushi needs akutagawa to be brave enough to act #and akutagawa needs to see what a will to live looks like from someone capable of absorbing the brunt of the fight #also as a reminder. akutagawa is not real. he is a seinen anime character with superpowers. #anime is a stylistic and exaggerated medium #do not work yourself up by dragging them from their context to frame their behavior as if theyre irl high school aged students #the pencil drawings are not hurting each other and cartoon violence is not 1:1 with real violence (tags from OP)
pm!dazai didn't abuse akutagawa. he reacted proportionately to the threat akutagawa posed to himself.
when dazai smacks akutagawa around in canon, they're running drills. dazai is not hitting him in misdirected anger or because he is venting his own suffering on him. akutagawa does not instinctually protect himself. in his fits of hyperviolence, he seeks to kill and be killed, and nearly is in beast, and in the course of his initial pursuit of atsushi.
he does not have the reflex or will or instinct to defend himself, and he is slow because he is having to consciously process the effort. his automatic reflex is to attack, but that will not stop him from being shot or overwhelmed or blindsided.
what they are doing in those scenes, what dazai is uniquely able to practice with him since rashomon can't pierce him, is not unlike cognitive behavioral therapy interventions. akutagawa is wired such that when he is triggered, he develops tunnel vision, pressing forward relentlessly without registering danger or responding to negative stimuli. this is a pattern developed from when he deemed dearh inevitable, and one which is liable to get him killed regardless of whether he has a reason to live.
he needs to consciously retrain his instinctual response, and he has to consciously and consistently reinforce it against his existing, much quicker instinct. he has to do it before he has the conviction or will to do it. and he has to do it over and over again, even when it isn't immediately life or death, because the instinct is self reinforcing, and the pattern he is trying to supplant it with is not yet.
skills are part of their users' framework for responding to their environment. jun'ichiro is anxious, but he can hide within light snow. kunikida has his notebook, but it has rigid limitations that he adapts to, similarly to how he works within the limitations of reality to keep from becoming consumed by his ideals.
akutagawa's skill, meanwhile, is wildly fucking disproportionate to akutagawa's constitution which is a problem when akutagawa wont react defensively. akutagawa is canonically frail, chronically ill, thin, and short (he's 5'8", but asagiri insists he's itty bitty every time he describes him in prose). rashomon, meanwhile, is monstrously powerful and hungry. it lends a false sense of untouchable violence when akutagawa himself is weak, and also is just really difficult to focus and control such that using it brings akutagawa into coughing fits. rashomon is also terrifying even in visage; it invites others to react with violence proportionate to their terror against the spectre of rashomon â but akutagawa is small, sick, and human; what is proportionate to rashomon is IMMENSE overkill if aimed at akutagawa. which is especially egregious because akutagawa will let them.
in other words, when dazai meets akutagawa, rashomon is as dangerous to its user as to anyone else. skills should not get their users killed. dazai is right. it's a shit skill.
akutagawa is vulnerable and self-destructive, and he and dazai are working to rewire his instinctual evaluation of his stakes. even when dazai punches akutagawa after akutagawa kills the mimic soldier, it's not a random act of violence or unregulated anger. the mimic soldier was not going to lead them to gide, there was no reality where they restrained him before he bit his cyanide, and he'd attacked dazai. but instead of reacting defensively at the opportunity, akutagawa fell to the former instinct, leaving himself wide open.
dazai reacts how he does because:
they are supplanting an ingrained instinct that is self reinforcing, the correction needs to be consistent to change the pattern and the former instinct needs to be discouraged with the same severity as the threat it poses;
by punching akutagawa first, dazai gave him notice and time to consciously muster the defense reaction theyre working on;
akutagawa needs to build an association between the defensive reaction and the triggering stimulus for this to work;
the context in which this happens is the exact sort of threat that rashomon is then ill equipped to handleâ gide can see into the future, like oda, and mimic are military trained gunmen.
when dazai tells akutagawa that he couldn't ever defeat oda, he's not taunting him, he's right. akutagawa is relying on swift killing blows, but against someone who can see into the future, akutagawa is as vulnerable as a baby. and then, shortly after, that's what happens: gide wrecks his shit and is about to murder him dead when oda swoops in to grab dazai's dumb horrible baby kouhai who's trying to kill himself with the ambitious gusto of a horse.
as long as akutagawa fails to seek self-preservation, he is remarkably vulnerable. he's weak, and he's going to get himself killed. dazai doesn't coddle him about it for the same reason fukuzawa slaps ranpo for scampering into a police car with a murderer. you dont get praise for self endangerment.
dazai is not going to affirm a version of akutagawa that is trying to kill the boy dazai promised to save.
***
(also, this explains why akutagawa hates taking baths and being without his coat. dazai tried to instill in akutagawa the vigilance to register danger. in his absence, akutagawa strove to be worthy of demanding his approval by diligently practicing. but he's dazai's dumb baby kouhai who. takes things too far lmao.)
#text#!! fucked up mentor/mentee dynamics are as a rule catnip for me and dazai-akutagawa are. absolutely that#which is why i have been going insane since i first opened the bsd tag in 2021. i think a lot of people read them very differently than i d#i have said before that it's less a question of whether dazai abused akutagawa to me than the other ways their dynamic is fraught and messy#and i stand by that esp because i think the violence does not factor into what *akutagawa* is conflicted or concerned over#when it comes to dazai#i feel like i've seen a lot of interpretations that say akutagawa's... respect(?) for dazai is inherently incorrect and#needs to be dismantled or *is* being fully dismantled in canon#in a very picture-perfect uncomplicated abuse survivor recovering way. etc.#but i don't think that's the story being told + it would appeal less to me personally if it were#akutagawa himself would not be so interesting to me were he not as self-destructive and tunnel-visioned as he is in canon. and if dazai had#not Rewired His Entire Brain via heartless cur short story#re:stylized violence in anime#i think it's very fundamentally important with that stylization to look at tone + intention of physical actions#i'd take the fukuzawa-ranpo scene seriously in the same way i take the dazai-akutagawa scene#but yeah imo the message of neither scene is supposed to be About gratuitous violence or whatever. the violence punctuates a point#being made about the characters#anyway! sorry for the essay that is saying nothing <3#obligatory note i am also particularly fascinated by the line in the tags re:sskk's different attitudes towards self-preservation and how#they play a role in dazai pairing those two together#overall these are such refreshing + interesting takes on all dynamics mentioned#edit: thought tumblr ate my tags originally so if u saw a different version of them no you didn't. xoxo.

Mortarion x F!Reader (prequel 2? Part 3??)
Previous || Next
CW: None for this specific thing. Many for the first one. Many for the future of whatever this is.

âGo on, pick.â
Mortarion holds you out at arms length, pointing you at a display of items in colors you couldnât name, so bright and varied it made your head start to swim.
âPick?â You parrot, âpick⌠what? What are they?â
You hear a small huff behind you. âTheyâre toys. Werenât you saying you were bored?â
It had been boring. After a week of toting you around, quizzing you on your world, crops, government systems, and various other minutia, you found out that your world did in fact have a ruler, unbeknownst to a simple farmer like yourself, and had happily agreed to join the imperium of man, as it was apparently called.
All Mortarion asked for in payment was you.
âYou entertain me.â Was all he had offered as explanation.
And thus you had been stuck in his quarters for two weeks, losing your mind at the lack of work to do. Youâd taken up trying to draw, but that only entertained so long. You tried to read, but you were barely literate in your own tongue, let alone what your master called âhigh gothicâ. What use did a farmer have for reading? Youâd tried to clean up, but there was barely anything in the room to tidy.
You refocus on the colorful display, reaching out to touch one of the bright objects. âItâs really soft...â You say, picking up one of the toys. It vaguely looks like some sort of animal, furry with stylized ears, but beyond that you canât imagine a use for the thing.
âHow is it a toy?â You ask, turning to try and look at your new masters face over your shoulder.
He frowns slightly. âWhat were toys on your planet?â
âWooden blocks, mostly. Or the Hoop game.â You say, then add with a fond smile, âand dolls, made of water-reeds.â
He sighs. âWell, think of these as the⌠reed dolls. They are stuffed animals, youâre supposed to find them pleasant.â
You look back to the unnaturally bright creature in your hands. âwhat color is this?â
You yelp as you are dropped to your feet, stumbling a little.
Mortarion turns you around by the shoulder, face grimacing in disbelief. âI don't enjoy being teased.â He huffs.
You frown. âWhat-â
âYou know purple.â He snaps, but it sounds less angry and more desperate. âYou cannot tell me you don't know the color purple.â
You look at the thing in your hands. If you absolutely had to answer, life or death, what color it was, you'd only be able to say not red but not blue.
You look back up to see mortarion's face more stern. âyour planet was quite brown and hazy, I suppose.â He said. âI can⌠understand that.â For a moment you see something flicker behind his gaze, but it is gone before you can guess it.
You tilt your head in a little confusion, intending to ask what he meant, but are turned back to the display instead. Mortarion leans over you to start pointing at the soft creatures.
âPurple.â He says, pointing at the one you held. âPink, blue, orangeâŚâ
You pout. âI know blue-â you point at the pointy eared alien toy, âThat's not blue. Blue has more grey in it.â
He sighs. âNo, your rivers were not blue, they were just the only thing on that forsaken dirt ball that had a slight hint of blue in it. This is blue.â he says, picking up the bright, smiling creature and handing it to you.
Suddenly, you're being hoisted again, and tucked under the massive man's arm. âyou're getting those two, I have chosen for you.â he grumbles. You think you catch him grumble something about doesn't know purple under his breath.
He forces you to pick out a blanket as well, as you'd been complaining about being chilly sleeping on the floor at night. That was true, but you more mean that it is a hard, metal floor, and wanted a bed. You had asked for some straw to weave yourself a proper mattress, but only got an annoyed look in response. He tossed you a pillow to sleep atop instead.
You chose a blanket in pink. You know pink too, but this one is an almost pastel, dusty version that you've never seen in nature. It was pleasant, and didn't hurt your eyes like the other new colors. Plus, it was quilted and full of feathers. He didnât seem to mind buying something so lavish, so you figure you may as well be comfortable.
When you're finished shopping, Mortarion opens the large satchel he'd taken you out of his room in. You frown, looking up over the toys and blankets in your arms.
âCan't I just walk inâŚ?â You ask.
He presses his mouth to a line. âNo.â
You mimic the expression. âI promise I won't try to run againâŚâ you say, referring to the ill fated attempt you'd made to avoid going into the belly of the flying beast when he'd first taken you.
He rolls his eyes. âNo. In. And be quiet. I don't want my sons to see you.â
You sigh, shuffling up to the large bag and tossing your new toys inside first. âCan't you just tell them I am some sort of field hand?â
He shakes the bag opening at you. âNo. We don't have those, and I don't want them getting strange ideas. In.â
âStranger than thisâŚ?â You mumble to yourself as you crawl into the bag, curling up and situating yourself.
He peers down at you through the opening. âDon't talk back. And there's nothing strange about having aâŚ.â He glances away and back quickly, frowning. âA personal serf.â
Your scrunch your brow. âSerfâŚ? But I don't do anything-â
Your words are cut off as he cinches the bag closed and hoists you up, making you squeak in surprise and have to scramble to reposition yourself where you can breathe.
âI said, don't talk back.â He grumbles, setting off on a quick pace that makes you jostle and swing as he walks.

a year!!! as of today i have now been drawing these funny little pizza freaks, to the exclusion of almost everything else, for!!! an entire year!!! i wanted to do a nice group shot/lineup of everybody to compare to when i first started trying to draw them because oh boy were they bad. i never even posted most of them anywhere because they were so bad. but im posting them here, now, to see how everything's changed/evolved.
this is probably the hardest time i've ever had trying to figure out how to work with a style, but we got there eventually; i'm pretty happy with the handle i've got on everybody now...dont let ur memes be dreams. lots of unimportant journaling and idle thoughts abt it below.
older pics
the first one is the VERY first time i drew them, before i thought i was going to actually have any interest in drawing them [lmao]; it was just the one isolated image, for my friendserver, to illustrate the funney message, so there was no attempt to make it Good or actually understand anything going on w/ the designs or style.
second is the original run of practices sketches to start trying to figure them out for real; done after i started having ideas for the comics and such and realized oh god maybe i am actually gonna draw fanart for this. [again, lol, and lmao.]
third one is the first pt art thing i posted on here. there were a couple weeks of sprite studies between this one and the previous image. the one on the top right wasn't part of that post i just threw it on as space filler; i'd intended to shift to doing Sprite Redraws But Stylized to explore tings more, but that was the only one i did. ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
individual characters
peppino: by far the hardest dear god. bro what ARE your shapes how DOES your face work. jesus christ. everything i have trouble with this style for, peppino has it in excess. i draw in polygons! i need consistency! and that is the last thing this kind of style is concerned with. they are made of squarshy clay and i do not understand how to mold them. i was really hoping trying to learn this game's style would GIVE me that kind of flexibility for fun exaggerated facial expression but i don't think much came of it in the end đ. anyway on the bright side all this means once i got peppino figured out a little bit everybody else clicked way easier.
fake peppino: honestly i never did anything with him on purpose except for how his eyes work + the perma-smile thing. i figured ok hes supposed to look weird and off model so whatever happens with him happens. and it did. and it kept happening. it is still, in fact, happening.
noise/ette: somehow, for every bit that peppino was the least natural thing i've ever tried, these two worked pretty much right off the bat. i still don't understand it, seeing as pretty much all the things at play for peppino are also at work for them. i think the new sketches are actually a little worse than older ones but not enough that i care.
gustavo: really funny bc i drew him on model twice and just went 'okay, cool nice, easy, um. he doesn't have any fucking legs?' fortunately he was the only one i had a strong idea for how to stylize him [square] and it worked exactly as i was hoping so wahoo.
brick: is an animal and therefore 5000x easier and more natural for me to draw/stylize than anything else in the cast. that is Just a rat bro. i can draw a rat.
gerome: i think the funniest one here. the most drastic and least necessary change imo. i was gonna have him be really small at first, like smaller than the noises, but then i just... didn't. he's just peppino-sized now. also i gave him like. actual human facial structure, which is funny bc in most cases i'd do anything to avoid, but it works well for his being A Rock to give him some angles and definition like that+ to differentiate his vibe from the rest of the cast who are all very squishy. also since he is essentially Just A Head it's good to emphasize that too ig.
john: i only drew john a couple times but he gets to be here because i like him. and because most of the stuff i applied to gerome was readily applicable to john, though i did try to keep him a little more uncanny because he is a Huge And Lanky Freak. i hate that he is barefoot btw but idk how to make his color balance look right with shoes.
pizzahead: i did not want to put him on here honestly but i Have drawn him a handful of times and more importantly i didn't know what i was gonna do with john's pose if i didn't have him there to be glared at. the only thing that's different with him is giving him wider-bottomed pants, which i got from when i tried to draw these guys in clone high style [i never posted that one either][i will eventually]
snick: he gets to be here because 1. he's like 6 lines 2. i like him and 3. ive scribbled him a few times offhand and it went pretty well
misc
there are some guys missing because those are guys i didn't draw enough [or at all] to have gotten comfortable with them. sorry
i would have Liked to shade these but for the time being i have accepted that my grasp of light/shadow has decayed to the point im not going to be happy with anything i try there, so For Now i am working on my presentation with flats i guess. gerome has a shadow only because he's shaded like that ingame and looks naked without it
anyway if you are still reading [hi?] i get to shamelessly plug now. i'm over the hill of my pizza run now, and while i still have plenty of things i want to make here, most of the bigger more in-depth ones have passed. pizza tower was the first thing in THREE YEARS to get me out of my oc groove to doing fanart, and once i am done with my ideas here i will be going right back to it. if you like my art or how i write characters/interactions you should check out my oc/webcomic blog @jamverse . i can't promise people who like pizza stuff will be terribly into my designs, but i can guarantee i treat my guys with the exact same sort of tone i handle the pt guys with. and hell, i've mentioned it a few times before, but like 70% of my characterization for fake pep is just copied off one of my characters, so if u are going to miss him... he will still be there in spirit >;p
and if you dont care about any of that and are still reading thank you anyway. actually making these comics + seeing how shockingly well-received they've been has done a lot for my confidence, and for seeing that my kind of stuff IS something people enjoy :')

Hey there! I'm here to simp for Garret, as usual, but I have another reason to gush todayâI absolutely adore your drawing style! Whether it's the colors, the character designs, or the scenes, I just love it all. One of my favorite things, though, has to be the characters' facial expressionsâthey are all just beautiful!
Marcelo's surprised face? Perfect. Rita's blushing cheeks? Adorable. Camilla's entire design? Has a special place in my heart. And don't even get me started on Teagan's smileâit's so cute, it's almost unfair. But, of course, my ultimate favorite is Garret. I can't handle it when he furrows his eyebrows, whether he's pissed off or has that smug look like he's just hit the jackpot. It's all just so perfect!
Anyway, I do have a question for youâdo you have any tips for creating character designs? I feel like the way your characters look perfectly matches the vibe they give off, and I'm starting to work on my own visual novel, but I'm having a hard time nailing down the character designs and I felt I could find good advice from you.
Additionally, I apologize in advance for all the fangirling and for my poor English. I hope nothing I said came across as rude or inconvenient, truly đ.
Thanks so much, and I hope you have a fantastic day! â¤đť
Thank you so much for your incredibly sweet ask! Please, please, please NEVER apologize for gushing about characters for fangirling over them! It always brings a massive smile to my face and I really appreciate hearing how much you enjoy them! <3 I'm incredibly flattered that you reached out to me for advice on character creation and I'll do my best to share my process with you! Granted there are a million different ways to do things so these are just a few things that I've found that helps me in the creation process.
I'll give you a little background about me and my character/story creation journey so you can get a better understanding of my background in writing/character development.
You see I've been a huge fan of text roleplay for the majority of my life. I actually started roleplaying on gaiaonline when I was 12 and I've been doing it ever since. ( Almost 20 years at this point! damn am I old lol) As a result I've had a lot of practice creating and interacting with different kinds of characters in different settings. I've also been playing DnD on and off since high school. That being said, I've had time to refine my craft and create characters that I personally really enjoy and align with to some degree. ( And hopefully you do too!)
That being said, I'll list a few tips and tricks I've picked up over the years below!
Anatomy is key! Yes, my characters are stylized, however I spent a long time studying anatomy and getting a solid sense of proportions, ratios, and musculature. Am I perfect? Absolutely not, but I'm at the point that I can usually notice if there's a glaring error/ something looks really off.
Make sure to put all of the characters in a line up once they're designed! Are their heads the same size? What about their hands and feet? Some slight variations are natural, but if one character's head is noticeably larger than the others, then I'd take the time to adjust. The same could be said for colors. Is one character SUPER saturated while the others are more muted? Unless they're supposed to stand out, consider reworking the colors to make them feel a bit more cohesive.
A basic understanding of color theory is always a bonus in my book! I'd also consider making a general color palette for your game. That way it'll help you make sure everything looks and feels as though it's in the same world.
When I first create a character, I try to think of a general concept of what I want them to be. What's their general vibe? What do they look like? What's their personality like? Ect. Once I have a general vibe down, I try and do a bit of visual research on tiktok, pinterest, tumblr, google, ect. For example, I might have a general idea of what a typical frat bro or sorority girl looks like, but until I actually do the research and look into the kinds of things they wear, how they speak, and their general lifestyle, and real life examples of these kinds of people they'll feel like a flat caricatures of what they actually are.
Then, once I have the general vibe nailed down I start doodling them and playing around with different hairstyles, outfits, body types, ect. I actually have a few different different versions of all of the characters for Crimson Hydrangea! I rarely end up going with my first sketch/ concept when it comes to most of my characters. I also like exploring with different skin tones, colors, and textures/designs.
It takes a lot of thought and trail and error, but once I finally create a character that I'm visually happy with, I really start delving into their personality, backstories, and general psyche. What are their likes, dislikes, positive traits, and flaws? What are their motivations, fears, and traumas? How self aware are they? Then I start asking myself slightly more introspective questions to help me relate to the characters a bit more. What about this character resonates with me? How can I make this character feel more real? What are some traits that we share? For example, Garret inherited my unhealthy perfectionism, Marcelo inherited my love of food and desire to make sure those around me are happy and comfortable, Camilla inherited my sarcastic sense of humor, Rita inherited my unyielding sense of responsibility and unhealthy work-a-holic tendencies, and Teagan inherited my deep rooted insecurities. Granted most of these characters take it to a completely new level than I do in my real life, but at least on a basic level I can relate to them and understand their motivations. That being said, I don't think all of your characters need to inherit a specific trait of yours, it's just something I recently realized I tend to do on a subconscious level to help me write them with a bit more depth.
Let your characters develop a life of their own within your story. It's okay if they end up changing from your initial concept. People in real life are complex and don't always fit into a specific mold no matter how hard they try. They grow and change over time, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worst. Do what feels right for the story you're trying to tell. For example, Garret was originally supposed to be more calculated and methodical. Marcelo was originally supposed to be a lot more laid back and go with the flow. However when I actually started writing them in specific scenarios I realized that they're far more complex than a simplified list of traits. Flaws and weaknesses make them feel so much more real than a "perfect" gary/mary stu.
When it comes to facial expressions, I usually have a small mirror on my desk to observe and reference specific expressions I'm trying to convey. In addition to using the mirror as a reference point, I also tend to make whatever face I'm drawing as I'm drawing it. It's a little silly, but I find it really helpful feeling my facial muscles recreate the same expression. It helps me figure out what the brows, eyes, and mouth are doing at the same time. It's gotten to the point of doing it subconsciously whenever I work/animate/draw. (Fortunately I usually work from home so no one has to see my weird expressions lol)
I think the final and most important tip you should take to heart is to create characters you genuinely enjoy. It'll also help you stay motivated to keep writing them and developing the story, especially early on in the creation process.
Hopefully you found my rambling helpful! It ended up being a bit more of a brain dump than I originally intended haha. That being said, I'd love to see what kind of characters and game you end up creating in the future! <3

Digimon & Tamagotchi
Bandai V-Pet Crossovers Part 1 (Part 2)
In 1996 Bandai and WiZ inc. released the original Tamagotchi. To their surprise, the toy proved to be popular among boys as well, despite it being mostly marketed for girls. And in 1997, as a more targeted approach to this demographic, Digital Monsters was born!
A huge virtual pet boom followed and not only did Bandai and Wiz release new versions of Tamagotchi and Digital Monsters, and try multiple v-pets with a variety of styles within the next couple of years, but other companies also tried to bandwagon on the success of these virtual pets!
(Such as Nintendo in 1998 with the Pocket Pikachu-)
While the Tamagotchi was shaped like an egg (jap. tamago) with a crack in its shell where the screen is, the Digital Monster was shaped like a brick cage with bust-open bars! It also featured the ability to connect and battle! Otherwise they both use the same three button layout and similar menu icons. On the Tamagotchi, the toilet icon is portrayed by a duck themed potty, which is also used as the look for the Portable Potty items in many Digimon games.
Now with how closely these two franchises were developed, there's bound to be more that connects the two, right?
One such thing is Tamagotchimoji and Digimoji/DigiCode!
You can see that the two scripts are basically identical, just stylized differently. While Tamagotchimoji got used sparsely until they stopped using it in 2004 (But had a surprising comeback in one social media post on April 10, 2023?!), Digimoji has been used, and still is being used everywhere in the Digimon franchise! There is also a separate set of characters for the Latin Alphabet.
[Tamagotchimoji on the left, Digimoji on the right, respective Hiragana above the character]
Just like we know it from the Digimon Franchise, the Tamagotchi also grow through evolutionary stages along a branching path, depending on how well you take care of them! The original line of Tamagotchi as well as Digimon owe their designs to Kenji Watanabe! Generally all Tamagotchi's names end in "-tchi" or "-chi", similar to how Digimon names end in "-mon".
In these evolution charts, the Tamagotchi and Digimon are arranged by how well they've been taken care of / how good they are, with the top line being the best, and the bottom being the worst.
But that Tamagotchi chart is actually just the international version, which had "Bill" (aka Gaijintchi/Ketotchi) as secret character past the adult stage. Instead the Japanese version featured "Oyajitchi" (jap. oyaji means "old man").
But wait, doesn't that face look familiar...?
According to the Digimon Reference Book, Nanimon's true identity is unknown and it in fact came from another dimension, where it was known under the title OYAJI. In order to survive in the new environment of the Digital World, Nanimon had to go through a lot of training and battling.
Nanimon's name is also a play on its bizarre nature. In Japanese, "nanimon" is a casual abbreviation of "nanimono" which means "what (thing)". So, with intonation indicating a question, "nanimonda" can mean both "What are you?" or "I am Nanimon".
This joke is even included directly in Digimon World when the player encounters Nanimon.
ăăďźăŞăŤăăă ďźďźă "N? Nanimon da?!" âHuh? What are you?!â ăăăă˘ăłă ăĄďźă "Nanimon da!" âIâm Nanimon!â
Nanimon's nature as an alien to this World is also reflected in his trait in the Card Game being "Invader".
Nanimon BT6-058 by Kenji Watanabe from BT-06 Booster Double Diamond
So yeah, Nanimon is supposed to be Oyajitchi who came from the Tamagotchi World to the Digital World.
Stay tuned for next friday when we talk about another World connected to the Digital World!

Tattoo
This was written in chunks of when I actually had any drive to write in the past few months, which wasn't often. I tried doing a bit of editing, but my brain demands to move on to the next short. I'm just happy my brain wants to write again, so who am I to argue?
***
The shop was not as dark inside as it looked. Sillik was glad for that. As a duib, his eyes were well-adapted to the bright sunlit mountains of his homeworld, and he managed just fine with the medium-light of the city that Human Ernesto had been showing him around.
It wasn't the human's hometown, that was on the other side of the continent, and the crew they were both part of only had a relatively small radius to go while on surface leave due to time constraints. Thankfully, it was a city that Ernesto had visited many times before, and so was very familiar with all the best places to eat, relax, and otherwise explore. Sillik, Ernesto, and the others in the group theyâd been spending the day with only had a few more hours before they needed to be at the spaceport to report back for duty. With full bellies after having had a delightful meal at a small local cafe downtown, they were in no rush as they meandered down the wide sidewalks lined with flowers and lovely shrubbery.
âWoah,â Sillik stopped walking and nearly got run into by Human Carol who had been walking directly behind him, âwhat is that building?â He pointed to a small brick building a few doors down from where they currently were. Not very out of the ordinary in and of itself, but it was the decoration of the building that had pulled Sillik's attention. The brick texture of the building was completely covered in a base coat of black paint with complex and intricate white and gray patterns swirling across the structure like theyâd been poured on and across the whole of it. The grayscale was interrupted by strategically placed pops of color in the form of stylized animals, flowers, and characters that Silllik did not recognize.
Painting the building, with its brick-and-mortar texture would have been hard enough, but whoever had done it had gone beyond. This? This was beautiful! This was art!
Without waiting for an answer to his original question, Sillik approached the building in an almost reverent state of awe. The closer he got, the more he could make out the fine details the artist must have painstakingly minded when painting. It appeared to cover all the building, or at least all parts he could see from the street. How long had it taken to do all this?
Sillik almost didnât notice when the rest of the group caught up with him. Someone, probably one of the humans, let out a long arching whistle sound. âOh my stars! Look at the name!â Ernesto laughed as he walked up to the front door. âTatu Shop?â Carol followed his gaze to the white sign above the door. âWhatâs so special about it? They just misspelled tattoo, or what?â âNo, itâs a pun.â Ernesto pointed to some of the colorful animals painted around the shop. They had long pointed faces and looked like they were built out of armor. âTatu is Portuguese for armadillo.â âPunny!â Another human, Steph laughed. âSo itâs a pet shop?â Sillik asked. It made sense, he supposed. The art of the building was so interesting and happy-looking, and it was widely known that pets often made humans happy. Ernesto laughed âWhat? No, they do tattoos here. As in body art? Itâs a play on words.â He turned back to the sign above the door and hummed to himself. âIâve actually always wanted a tattoo. Just a small one on my arm. Iâve had the design in my mind for years.â Steph made a show of checking their comm device. âIf itâs not too big of a design, they might be able to do it before we have to be back. We still have four hours, but keep in mind weâll still need to walk to the spaceport shuttle.â
Ernesto frowned. Normally the look of having a scrunched-up brow and the corners of their mouths turned down means that a human is unhappy - usually upset, worried, or angry. But Sillik had been around Ernesto enough to recognize that this particular frown was one he made when he was thinking very hard about something. If he continued doing it long enough, he might stick the tip of his tongue out of his mouth as well. âIâm gonna do it,â Ernesto finally blurted out. He gasped a bit like he was surprised at his own declaration. âOh my stars, Iâm⌠Iâm gonna do it!â He started walking into the shop, the rest of the group following after shooting each other amused looks. Sillik followed, a bit confused, but happy to see what tattoo Ernesto was so excited about getting.
That was how Sillik ended up in the fairly well-lit tattoo shop. He got himself comfortable in a chair off to the side as Ernesto talked with the tall human behind the front counter. The others joined him, except Carol, who paused a bit behind Ernesto while wearing the same frowny-thinking expression on her face. âCarol,â Steph laughed lightly, âyou thinking of getting one too?â âHmmmmâŚâ Carol tilted her head as Ernesto turned to look back at her, âUh, maybe not right now, actually.â She shuffled over to the line of chairs as Ernesto followed the tall human behind the counter and to some cushioned chairs where Sillik assumed the body art was done. He watched intensely. Thankfully the shop was small enough that he could clearly see everything. The shopkeeper, who must have also been one of the shopâs artists handed Ernesto a clipboard of papers for him to sign. One of them must have been for him to sketch out the design he had in mind. From the way Ernesto explained it as he drew, it seemed like it was indeed very simple. If the artist had even an ounce of skill that the painter of the building had, Ernestoâs âtattooâ should look lovely.
Sillik spent the next few minutes just looking around at the art painted on the shopâs interior walls. It was the same style as the artwork outside but with different designs. There were a few more of those âtatuâ creatures that popped up here and there. It was a fun design overall. He might just look into getting something done himself. Maybe not here, but back home. After all, who knows if the paints they use in a "tattoo" is safe for duib skin?
âSo what made you second-guess yourself on getting one yourself?â Steph questioned. Sillik turned back to his companions. Carol steepled her hands to hold them under her chin and sighed. âI want one, but Iâm not a hundred percent sure what I want. That, and I really, really donât like needles, so thatâs kind of the big issue.â
Needles? Wait. Not paint? What kind of body art is a tattoo that needs needles?! Sillikâs head shot toward Ernesto and the tattoo artist sat together in the chairs just as a buzzing noise started up. Sillik saw the artist holding a small gun-looking device up to Ernestoâs arm, and Ernesto wincing slightly as the point of the device made contact with his skin. Normally, Sillik considered himself very level-headed, which was a good quality to have when you worked closely with humans on a regular basis. Even still, he felt his jaw drop as shock spread itself across his face. Was there a needle on the point of that gun thing? Had Ernesto been injected with something? Thoughts flashed around his brain as he stared. âCarol, Steph,â Sillik kept his voice from squeaking, âwhat, exactly, is a tattoo? Whatâs going on?
âOh,â Steph chirped cheerily as ever, thankfully unaware of just how distraught Sillik felt at the moment. âTattoos are ink drawings that are injected into the skin. That makes them permanent.â Sillik stared at her, then over to Ernesto. âBut⌠but doesnât that hurt?â âYeah,â Carol looked over to Ernesto like she was searching for something. âHe might have given him some lidocaine cream, but Iâm not really sure. Donât a lot of tattoo artists not like using it?â She asked Steph. âDepends,â Steph looked over to Ernesto and the tattoo artist who was already doing good work on the design. âI doubt he bothered, the arm is one of the least painful places to get a tattoo.â âIsn't the most painful place the armpit or something?â âWhy would someone get a tattoo in their armpit? What would you even put there?â âI donât know, I can think of a couple really funny ideas.â
Sillik gaped at them but then turned back to watch the tattoo process again. Ernesto wasnât crying out. He looked like he was in pain, but he had personally seen the human get injured in what seemed to be much âsmallerâ incidents and had had much bigger reactions. Like when he stubbed his toe three cycles ago. What is the deal? Humans and how they react to pain in different ways is so weird!
Steph must have noticed his attention had gone elsewhere again and thought it funny to add, âYou know, this method of getting a tattoo is much less painful than it used to be, back in the day.â Of course it was, Sillik thought. Still, it was something that he felt needed more of an explanation, so he looked back at her and waited for her to continue. âThere were two different ways, at least that I know of. One was with just a really sharp needle dipped in soot or seal oil or whatever and then the person giving the tattoo just poked you over and over and over to get it all under the skin.â Steph enunciated the âover and overâ part by miming holding a needling and poking at Sillik like she was an old-timey tattoo artist. âAnother way,â she continued, âand in my opinion, this one seems like the most uncomfortable way to do pretty much anything, was pretty much sewing the tattoo into your skin, with a needle pulling along a thread that had been dipped in dye. And again, the dye back then was either soot or seal oil or what have you.â
Thank the stars Sillik had been serving around humans for a couple of solar cycles now. If he had learned all this from the start, he would have thrown up. Though he felt like if he kept watching Ernesto getting his tattoo, there was a good chance of that happening still.
He spent the next hour or so staring at his feet as thought of why humans do the things they do until Steph and Carol decided to take pity on him and offered to take him to look around at the other shops on the street while they waited. Carol put a hand on his shoulder as they guided him out of the shop, âDonât worry about it Sil, like I said, I donât like needles either.â Sillik nodded as they stepped back into the sunshine on the street. He didnât say anything about how he didnât actually have an issue with needles. At least not for medical uses, for which he was used to seeing them. But injecting ink deep into your skin? Something about the idea just made him shiver. He wished Steph hadnât told him about how tattoos used to be done. Heâd never get that out of his brain.
Why can't humans just do normal, painted-on body art, like sane people?

So we have part 2 of stylized Cookies, pretty much all from today other than bird girls
I feel like I did better yesterday, but also I havenât seen yesterdayâs drawing since yesterday, so I donât really remember if it was
I was planning on drawing the Hollyberry family, but because I got stuck on Jungleberry (I deleted her so you canât see), that didnât end up happening. Funny enough, I was also like âI have no clue what to do for White Lily and Pure Vanilla so theyâre probably not gonna be drawn for a whileâ, but what got me to draw more today was ideas for White Lily, and Pure Vanilla came along later
To be honest, White Lily and Pure Vanilla probably still need some tweaking before I color them. Iâm still not really sure what Iâm doing with White Lilyâs hair, and for Pure Vanilla I feel like I havenât done enough outside of the eyes and the hat. Maybe itâs because I gave him an oval head? I wasnât really sure what head shape to give him other than it not being one I already used
Speaking of their eyes, White Lilyâs are supposed to be pink with white irises, and Pure Vanilla is supposed to have no irises, but solid yellow and blue. Which when I was drawing looked somewhat unsettling, which is funny because since I draw so many Cookies, thatâs usually normal now
Also also, I now want to make a purelily kid that combines their features, aka White Lilyâs half shadow face and Pure Vanillaâs small non iris eyes. Theyâd look like the comedy mask. And probably also somewhat like Shadow Milk
As for the Hollyberry family, I think Holly herself looks good, and the other two look alright. Princess probably needs more tweaking. I wanted to give them a running trait of not just dot eyes, but leaves in their hair. Iâm thinking that every Hollyberrian has leaves in their hair, since theyâre berries. I am struggling with Royal Berry and Princessâ, since the best place to it their leaves is where they have something else, aka their crown and heart pins
To be honest I want to make it so that Princess is half berry half candy, so that maybe she could not have to have the leaves, but I like Jungleberry and donât want to get rid of her or turn her into a candy, so oh well
I drew Red Velvet because I was struggling with White Lily and Pure Vanilla. I gave him a triangle head because someone somewhere on my first page said something about Golden Cheese having a triangle face because the Cakes, so why not give the half cake Cookie a triangle head as well?
Also with Red Velvet I definitely took liberties in redesigning him, like with the hair and horns, but I donât think he looks necessarily bad? As least not by the end
I also drew him with Dark Choco because darkvelvet is a thing I know. Though to be honest, while I draw it, Iâm not sure how much I like it. Like in theory I like it, itâs not bad, itâs just that I donât think I get it. Like as far as I can tell they can only be doomed by the narrative because Dark Choco leaves, but maybe Iâm interpreting Red Velvetâs character wrong. Itâs been over a year since I watched his story. And also Iâm not sure what draws people to the ship? Like darklico for example I can get for various reasons, but I donât know about darkvelvet
Oh yeah, Licorice is here too. Forgot about that. Well I tried to make his head oval shaped because itâs sort supposed to look like a skull? Or a cartoony skull. Same with his eyes and mouth, theyâre supposed to be somewhat skull-y. I didnât draw his actual skulls though because Iâm lazy and itâs a small drawing. I think he turned out pretty good though
I think maybe next page I should focus on more random characters outside of the Ancients. Maybe thatâll help the creative freedom
Anyways yeah, I think thatâs it for now
#one thing fun about doing these is that when I redraw the characters#I can make it so I donât have to draw what I donât want to draw#sorry Iâm somewhat distracted right now#my brother was just telling me about something that happened with our dog#and my mindâs somewhat still on it#anyways#cookie run#cookie run kingdom#stylized cookies#golden cheese cookie#black raisin cookie#licorice cookie#hollyberry cookie#royal berry cookie#white lily cookie#pure vanilla cookie#red velvet cookie#princess cookie#my art

Bestiaryposting Results: Miscellaneous Birds
So! This is the first in our six-week wind-down of Bestiaryposting, where we run through the Honorable Mentions that appear in the Aberdeen Bestiary but didn't get their own post here because the author of the Bestiary and I have different goals.
If you don't know what any of that means, you can find out at https://maniculum.tumblr.com/bestiaryposting.
To see the entry our artists are working from, click here:
To see the entry people are drawing now, so that you can potentially join in, click here:
Art is below the cut, in roughly chronological order.
@silverhart-makes-art (link to post here) decided to do Literally All of the birds. I am fascinated by the detail here; I particularly like the pose on the Hreakgleav, and the feathers on the Klethghrom. I would direct anyone trying to figure out which is which to the linked post, which contains a key and brief descriptions of each.
@coolest-capybara (link to post here) has also given us a tree full of birds. The explanation in the linked post of which is which and what they were inspired by is illuminating (pun not intended), so check that out. I especially enjoy the interpretations of the Klethghrom and the Lokfotreag. (And thank you for providing alt text.)
@wendievergreen (link to post here) has drawn three of the birds in their always-charming style. For explanations, close-ups, and individual treatments of each, please see the linked post. I really like the tail on the Hreakgleav and the... frankly insane look of the Klethghrom. (Also thank you for providing alt text.)
All right, we're going to identify these rapid-fire because there are a bunch of them and I'm not going to hand you a whole-ass essay here. Readers are encouraged to add their own commentary.
Tluftasong
The manuscript identifies this one as "night owl", but I've seen other sources refer to this entry as the "night heron". I'll leave that one to people who know birds more.
Lokfotreag
This is the hoopoe. Which, as listeners to the podcast know, you can trade to demons for perpetual access to great parties. The illustration is very cool, and seems to show the young birds rejuvenating their aging parent.
Hurrashbeg
Really love the Stylized Plant, of course. One of the things that really strikes me about medieval manuscript art is how particular things that Definitely Don't Exist keep cropping up in different manuscripts, looking pretty much the same. Like, unless this is by the same artist who did the Rutland Psalter, it shows an interestingly consistent artistic tradition -- I swear that's the exact same plant, and in a couple other places in the manuscript they have the exact same wyvern.
Anyway, those are clearly magpies. I don't know why they're being shot at.
Konchilkuk
This one didn't get an illustration, but it's the woodpecker.
Wobrahfmet
Yep, that sure is a raven. They actually have a really long entry, but it's mostly about what they symbolize.
Hrongnewit
This one is the kite. Yeah, that looks pretty believable.
Klomurgrae
This is... apparently the ibis. Also, from the context of the entry, I think it's intended to be standing on a snake. Neither of those look like the things they are supposed to be.
Zagsmenrok
This is the blackbird. I have no explanation for why it's brown. The illustrator clearly has access to black ink.
Hreakgleav
Yep, that's very clearly an owl.
Wahrembeag
It tickles me that these are right next to each other, because there's a moderately-well-known Middle English poem called "the Owl and the Nightingale". This is pure coincidence; they're not together in the bestiary, there are a few birds in between.
Oh yeah, this is the Nightingale.
Sarbrufeat
This is the heron. The illustration seems broadly correct, but do herons come in white? That's an egret, surely.
Keltrumram
This is the coot -- doesn't look like one to me, but maybe the artist and I are familiar with different species of coot. Readers may recall its cameo in the Eagle entry; its own is unfortunately rather shorter.
Grozfarwat
Meet the quail. I was initially confused, but apparently the plume thing I associate with quails is not actually common to all species of quail. So... yeah, good quail.
Mortelgeng
Very definitely a crow.
Burngraega
Also very identifiable, here's the swan. Head and beak seem a bit flatter and wider than I would expect, though.
Klethghrom
This was basically the poster child for "too obvious to get its own entry". Here's the peacock.
And that's it for this week, it's late. Talk amongst yourselves, or tell me what you think about all these birds.

I was a creepypasta and mlp grimdark kid- I absolutely loved them and they definitely shaped my interests in horror and gore that I have now! I am not immune to the nostalgia of these infection auâs, and honestly I am thriving. I love reading everyoneâs ideas and seeing everyoneâs art, and I got inspired to try my own hand at one!
Iâve been calling it the Crystal Heart Contagion. I am not sure how far Iâll take this but itâs fun to draw and think about. I considered going a bit crazy with actual gore, but this was just supposed to be a concept page and I wanted to keep it simple and just flesh out some ideas I had bouncing around in my head. Besides, I actually really like body horror that doesnât involve a ton of gore- and like that note says, has an air of beauty alongside the disturbing elements.
Again, not sure how far Iâll take this- so Iâm just gonna jot down some thoughts and notes! Iâll put âem under the cut because I am very wordy <3
Also I try to tag my stuff as best as possible because I know not everyone loves horror and these Mlp horror auâs as much as I do! I donât want people to interact with my posts if it makes them uncomfortable, so if I miss a tag please let me know.
The Crystal Heart Contagion is transmitted when infected crystals come into contact with oneâs bloodstream. The afflicted will experience body pains and stiffness at first, hemophilia, and symptoms like lethargy and migraines. The crystals will begin to form in clusters on the skeletal system, eventually breaking through the skin and, after a long enough period of time, will completely petrify the afflicted in solid crystal.
I imagine that oneâs teeth, hooves, and horns are where crystals will begin to break through first. I like the idea of stylizing manes as they crystalize- but thatâs exploration for another day!
I am currently thinking of the infection more like a parasite of some kind. Parasitic crystals that feed on magic and rely on living creatures to carry them farther in order to spread themselves.
The infection originally didnât do much to change oneâs personality, they would just get weaker and weaker as they were overtaken by the crystals. It was only when the infection started again, when Equestria was home to many more different species and overflowing with way more magic, that the crystals would begin to mutate at a rapid rate. Those afflicted would begin to show signs of aggression that would have them attacking others, thus leading to further spreading.
Some physical details I like is the eyes hollowing out and resembling geodes! Crystals emerging from the spines, horns becoming crystallized, and crystals forming over teeth and jaw to create fangs are all stuff I would love to flesh out in further detail.
I also love the idea of the chest ripping open to reveal a crystal heart held in a crystallized ribcage! I think I will forever be influenced by the Angel Trap in Saw 3
The idea of this infection is still developing and Iâm still doing a lot of research and thinking on the words to describe it. My original thoughts took inspiration from a parasitic infection and rabies. My brain also likes thinking of it like a mold in how it spreads or thinking of the crystals like a coral reef (mostly as a visual inspiration)
The background and timeline is all still a work in progress. I havenât rewatched the full series in so long and Iâm implementing plenty of my own headcanons- so itâs all very vague right now.
The original idea is that the infection started during King Sombraâs reign. He created these parasitic crystals and unleashed them upon Celelstia and Lunaâs army with the hopes of dwindling their numbers and expanding the reach of the Crystal Empire further through the Frozen North. When he was sealed away, Celestia and Luna would bring several of the infected back to Equestria for study. They would hide them away deep underground beneath a mountain, where the lack of nutrients in the rock would eventually cause the crystals to stop forming and enter some kind of hibernation.
Celestia would later build Canterlot after the banishment of Nightmare Moon, and she would use the very kingdom itself to block off the caverns and keep them hidden for everyoneâs safety.
The Crystal Caverns would become known again during the Canterlot Wedding when Cadance and Twilight escaped from them. However, nothing would ever happen after the fact, and Celestia and Luna would continue to hope that with Sombra sealed away and the crystals dormant for so long, that this infection was truly no more.
When I first got this all in my head, the idea was that Flurry Heartâs Crystalling was what caused the parasitic-crystals to get a kickstart of energy and begin spreading again.
That is the part where the timeline starts getting really wonky. Cause I think Iâd want Twilight to be running her school and have the young six around, but thatâs in season 8 and the crystalling was in season 6. But I can honestly fudge the timeline however I want, itâs an alternate universe after all.
I think that Celestia sacrifices herself in order to save Luna and help as many people flee Canterlot as possible. This was when I still very early into thinking this au through and a potential story that could be told with it- and with the worldbuilding Iâve been doing over the last few days I donât entirely know if it still fits. I love the scene in my head that comes from it though- so I decided to keep the sketch of crystallized Celestia in the end.
I love the idea of crystals on her head mimicking sun rays! And her forelegs and wings becoming one so she staggers around like a wyvern. Thatâs definitely a design I would love to flesh out if I get the time.
I am having fun!

How Leasebound suffers under the ablebodied gaze
Hiiiii Iâm on my bullshit again đâ¤ď¸
today we are going to talk about how Leaseboundâs disability rep is kind of mid
we all know how I feel about the special ed teacher panel
and BONUS: this is Sunnyâs insert. Sunny has never worked with disabled kids. RUSTY has never worked with disabled kids, and neither are disabled to my knowledge. I am disabled AND have worked with disabled kids. I still think that panel is complete bullshit, with the lack of knowledge on the topic showing through in the implication that there is ever an instance outside of imminent harm to yourself or others that you need to restrain a disabled child even if my old post may have admittedly overreacted. There is not. There is never an instance outside of imminent harm to yourself or others. If your special education facility has told you that restraint is an option at all when a kid hugs you too long, get a new fucking job đ the next alternative to a âlet me goâ or a collapse or drop move you werenât taught somehow is never to âhm. If I donât go to self defense training my only other option is to restrain themâ
anyway to the guys I wanna talk about here
now letâs list off disabled characters
Shanzay (itâs not spelled Shanzey in any language Rusty should probably correct that)
Rocky
Uhhhhhhh
Ginger is most definitely disabled given the knee injury but that was most definitely added to give her a stereotypical middle aged âmanâ backstory of wanting to play professional football and then getting injured and it doesnât even really come up on panel. Plus the trans women in the comic are. Well. We all know đđ
and I am of the personal opinion that Brick has some form of dwarfism or potentially Down syndrome due to how Rusty draws them (height, proportions, and facial features) but this was not done intentionally by Rusty and seems to have mostly been an attempt to make them look âclownishâ which is a whole other set of issues. Like I thought Parniya was supposed to teach your grown adult fanbase not to make fun of people for their height or weight but your commentors say otherwise when it comes to Brick sooooo
anyway the only ones I can definitively say are disabled are Shanzay and Rocky
so so far the only 2 characters who are definitively disabled both got it from some big showey traumatic event, not looking good so far seeing as thatâs a pretty common stereotypeâŚ
Shanzay has partial blindness, seemingly caused by blunt force trauma
Now I canât believe I have to say this butâŚ
regardless of how you are drawing this REALLY does not communicate a blunt force eye injury
fun fact: Iâm not going to show a picture because HOLY SHIT the pictures are horrible but a healed blunt force eye injury (one that WOULD cause permanent full blindness in the eye) usually includes
partially or fully detached retina
reddish sclera for obvious reasons, it gets better overtime but it rarely fully goes away
usually rather than a perfectly vertical scar with stitches there is a bruise or a scar that isnât. Yk. Perfectly vertical over the whole eye. Often a scar would be something like a deeper one over the eyelid, or uneven tiny scar bits around the eye. While we donât see what Chris does to Shanzay exactly, if he hit her with what he had at the moment (his fist), she more than likely got a hugeass bruise with no permanent scar outside the eye, maybe a tear in the eyelid itself if we give Chris the disbenefit of the doubt that his single fist is that strong, or that he got multiple hits in. I mean he sells drugs or whatever so maybe??? Iâm gonna be for real I doubt this guyâs mary sue ass strength he looks under half my dadâs weight
Bonus that shit is probably HORRIFIC if the injury wasnât super bad then because it doesnât seem like she was taken to the doctors
Better ways to stylize this sort of injury on Shez:
partially detached retina, rough healing
Retina removed surgically due to extreme injury or infection after injury, probably healed better due to medical intervention. Would likely wear an eye cap or glass eye cover to protect the eye
Traumatic cataract (what I think Rusty was going for??). Despite all the models youâve probably seen or whatever the fuck a traumatic cataract is rarely completely perfect over the eye, and often the original eye color is slightly visible underneath. I specifically made this one partial, giving an easily stylizable but accurate look.
âwhy is this a problem?? Other media does this all the timeâ
yeah and I kinda hate it đđ itâs one thing if all your characters have dot eyes, like just put an x there BOOM eye disability communicated. Also, Shez is never shown to have the same or similar disability needs to most people who are partially blind or blind in one eye. The large majority of people with full blindness in one eye cannot drive very easily, first of all. One, in most countries you need to pass a medical test. Also, if Shezâs injury is in fact a traumatic cataract, driving is either an incredibly difficult/stressful task, or just straight up unsafe, seeing as the areas of an eye a cataract falls over only allow for very limited vision.
Like bestie you CANNOT be looking back at Jaden like that regardless of potentially training yourself to drive?? Which even then youâre apparently driving at 3am or so??? Itâs DARK AS HELL at 3am fuck off thereâs no way
now Iâm not partially blind or blind myself so people can absolutely correct me on this (blind people, not people with a totally super real blind cousin or something, Iâm not centering ablebodied people here)
Shez seemingly has no trauma from her injury specifically. Only her mother is affected by it. Honestly thatâs a lot of the Chris plot line; Shez only wants to save the people around her and thatâs apparently good cause âpower fantasyâ like??? I thought this was supposed to be a comic about realistic women experiences or whatever the fuck.
Oh yeah and why is this panel kind of implying that Shez got her injury on the job when she got it from Chris đđ I guess the rest fits but âthis is a rough jobâ with the weird closeup of her eye đđ bitch what does that MEAN Chris did not injure you at Yonique
okay next one
I have BEEF with this woman âźď¸âźď¸âźď¸
Whoever decided they werenât gonna at least teach Rocky sign language is a fucking idiot. Why is she communicating with the same *nod* *nod* she did when her muteness was new at 22 years old. Someone teach Rocky sign language!! âyou canât expect rusty to learn accurate sign language just for Rockyâ then I canât expect her to respectfully write a mute character without falling into dumbass stereotypes
I do understand why Rocky wouldnât have an AAC device⌠I mean, this is 5 (now 6 with Parniya!!) people living in one tiny living space in a city that has a huge classism problem, itâd be very difficult to get their hands on something like that. But. A text to speech tablet?? Like just an iPad?? Maybe??? Thereâs also AAC-like apps for both Samsung and Android. Rusty invents shit that doesnât exist all the time!! (Like a plain white simultaneously loose and tight around the boobs turtleneck with plain black text that says yaoi. Looking at Kai) she could just invent an AAC app for Rocky to use that functions exactly like the expensive ones but free and on a standard off brand tablet!! PLEASE itâs giving Teardrop bfb but worse than that because Teardrop was 1. Originally written by children on YouTube 2. Eventually DID get means of autonomy and communication and most people understand and respect her. Rocky only gets nods. How is she getting a job with nods??? Interviews are unfortunately way more complicated than yes or no questions.
now my final issue, applying to both Rocky and Shanzay, which I briefly hinted to earlier
Their disabilities are BOTH from big life altering injuries or PTSD. Which can happen!! Thatâs fine, but itâs also the most stereotypical form of these disabilities. Itâs the one in media most palatable to ablebodied people. Like the little disabled representation coming in the form of wheelchair users who cannot walk at all (often paralysis) or supergeniuses if itâs caused by anything else, or people who so tragically lost an arm, or an eye, or their hearing, or sight in a war, or a fight, or whatever, a mute person who does not communicate in any of the numerous ways that mute people do because the ablebodied writer does not believe they can. Like, you know that dialects of sign language have formed for mute or deaf kids from observation, right?? Even if Meriam didnât teach her fucking kid to sign or get her in a learning environment where she could learn to, Rocky most definitely knows more than nod and shake, ESPECIALLY as a mute adult.
all the disabled characters are written in the most palatable way they can be to an ablebodied audience, by an ablebodied writer.
Easy fix: GET SENSITIVITY READERS OR DO PROPER RESEARCH BEFORE WRITING SOMETHING YOUVE NEVER TOUCHED JESUS FUCKING CHRIST

You know? The studio change makes me really sad.
A big part of Lego Monkie Kidâs soul was its animation and its use of Visual storytelling. There are frames and shots from the first 4 seasons that as stills, work as full illustrations that are able to tell so much about the story! It is clearly something born about of someoneâs passion! It has dedication and so much though put behind it.
Animating is a Big, laborious effort. Productions like LEGO Monkie Kid? Even more so. The dynamic shots, the use of lights, the composition, and the fluid movement of the stylized shapes⌠They made the show unique, yes, but also an incredible hard show to work on. Yet it paid of! LEGO Monkie Kid is a success in China! As it was supposed to be, and even when the US is not the main audience, is doing well here too!
Thatâs why it pains me so much to see Flying Barks leave. Nothing against Wildbrain, I happen to really love their work and how they animate⌠yet, Wildbrain is mostly familiar with 3D and Puppet animation. Puppet Animation and 3D are great methods, but neither is the hand drawn 2D look LEGO Monkie Kid has become known for. I have no doubt WildBrain will make the best with the cards theyâve been dealt with, and I look forward to see what they do. But is not the same. Hand drawn and Puppet animation are different mediums for a reason, and is a big noticiable change, specially for an action cartoon.
But I have to say⌠I am disappointed, in LEGO. So far it looks like the change in studios is due to scheduling issues, and because Flying Barks was not able to keep up with the demands LEGO put in place⌠To this I say, LEGO Monkie Kid is one of the most laborious works of Animation Iâve ever seen⌠and they killed it because they wanted it to come out faster?
Such a big part of LEGO Monkie Kidâs identity lays on its Animation, yet the corporation changed the studio, changed the animation method⌠To make production faster?
Animation takes time. Art takes time. Is sad to see a corporation do this because what is next? Will they change the cultural consultants team for a cheaper, quicker one too? Will they change their writers? I really hope not⌠But again, most people get into the show because of its animation, and they were willing to change it for the cheaper, quicker alternative.
This looks like a bad corporate decision at best, and a big slap to the face to the artist at Flying Barks at worse.
With the attention the Animation Community has in the show, it could be doing numbers with a bit of promotional material, and a consistent streaming service, yet they never did that, and now the attention from the art people might leave.
All these is to say,
Farewell Flying Barks, You did amazing. I hope you soon get a project that gets its deserve promotion and doesnât get cancelled or out sourced. Your name shall be known.

Why do you draw wheelchairs like that /gen q
Iâm a full time manual wheelchair user and all the pieces of the wheelchairs you draw look likeâŚtheyâre floating? The footplate is inaccurate too and thereâs not even a cushion. I would highly recommend looking at references! /gen
it's mostly because the wheelchair he uses is connected to his backpack !
(there actually is a cushion ! it's being hold up by those two fang, spider leg looking thingy, you can see the placement on the sitting pose on where it's supposed to be !)
it's a very stylized version of how a normal wheelchair look, i actually looked up references of wheelchairs while making the backpack, i just deliberately choose to make it look like that cause it's not a typical normal wheelchair, it's his backpack that he doubled up the use as a wheelchair because he needs it to switch fast if the situation ask for it cause everything he needed is in the bakcpack itself (the spider limbs version though it does look floaty but it's on purpose). if i were to put the wheeled version of his backpack, it would not look as floaty as it does (and if you're talking about the splash art, it's just for visual purposes, it doesnt float).
the footplate tho... yea i realized after posting the splash art that i drew it wrong đ its a pain to go back and edit tho because it does lag a lot and it's a bunch of heavy edit for it to look like that so i can't exactly went back and redo it, tho i am planning on fixing it in the future !
#i hope that answered your question !#i didnt mean to portray some of these wrong !#i also lokked up decorated wheelchair just to make his wheels actually !#tho if i were to make any heavy changes in the future ill ask a wheelchair user for input :O#ask

(In case this could be interpreted as judgemental or self-aggrandizing I'm going to just say upfront that I'm a literary criticism guy and these are just my thoughts on the episode + people's reactions to it, not a condemnation lol)
In the discussion of Dot & Bubble I have noticed that a lot of white fans (caveat: I am also white) didn't pick up on the racism until the very end/felt like it was too subtle, but honestly I felt like it was like. WILDLY obvious.
The Doctor being the only black person in a sea of white people, Lindy only listening to Ruby and repeatedly trying to block the Doctor even though they're saying the same things, repeatedly calling the Doctor rude when he's saying the same stuff as Ruby, etc, is like. not! subtle. (I also wonder slightly about the choice to put the Doctor in bright orange--iirc the orange jumpsuit inmates wear is a purely American thing and quite possibly not even something that crossed the costuming dept's mind, but given the themes of the episode and the fact that it's in contrast to all of the colorful, stylized pastels, the choice to put the doctor in Solid Orange and set him against a more muted background strikes me as....intentionally looking like a mugshot? But I'm not sure why, because the point of the episode wasn't to bias the audience against the Doctor, so who knows)
I think the thing about this episode people are misinterpreting (because RTD did a bad job) is that the bubble is meant to represent "phones bad," but I think it's actually commentary on how social media algorithms can quickly lock you into an echo chamber "bubble" of people who think and look just like you, that stops you from seeing outside to anyone else's pov and makes it so you rely completely on social media to tell you what to think and how to behave (and, crucially, how this can lead down a pipeline of unconscious--and eventually conscious--racism that can start with something as "innocent" as "coincidentally all of my friends are white.")
I feel like there's plenty of ground for people to have not caught on because they assumed the racism was not meant to be part of the story and just an exposure of the biases of whoever was in charge of casting the episode. But I think if you missed it entirely and didn't even think about it until it was overt, the episode was talking to you directly. Lower your bubble my dudes or you'll get eaten by slugs I guess
man idk how the slugs are supposed to factor into this argument i think the slugs are there because it's doctor who

I suspect this is going to be a weird mystery that has long since been lost to time, but I wanted to get the question out there in case anybody knows what the hell I'm talking about.
As you'll know if you've been following my blog, I've been watching through the WWE catalog, and I am currently making my way through the summer of 1997.
Partway through 1996, Brian Pillman signed on with the WWF after leaving ECW, however due to the fact that he had been in a car accident and shattered his ankle shortly before, he was not able to wrestle for nearly a year after he signed on. Therefore, I've only just gotten to see his ring attire.
And for some reason his tights have a hammer and sickle on them?
Best image I could grab on short notice, I could possibly get a better one given time to scrub through the catalog and look for his matches, but they're generally not focusing on the man's thighs so it's a bit hard.
I've tried looking this up and unless my Google Fu is seriously failing me, there seems to be very little mention of this on the web. I at the very least found that there is a Pillman figure with these tights, for a little bit of a better image:
Seems to me to clearly be a hammer and sickle. Maybe it's supposed to be a P for Pillman? But I digress.
It just doesn't really make sense. He's not supposed to be a Soviet or a socialist or a communist, and never in his career does it seem that he's ever played a character like that. In fact, at this stage he seems to be playing a gun-toting God-fearing Republican.
I've found three intriguing posts concerning the matter:
One from wrestlecrap.com summarizing from a later edition of Raw where Goldust has his face painted with what Jim Ross proclaims to be "Pillman's symbol":
That's certainly going in my Goldust facepaint collection.
One from a wrestling column that had a reader write in and ask "Hey, why did Pillman have a hammer and sickle on his tights?" to which the author basically replied, "Uh, actually I don't think he ever did do that." (He actually claimed it was a spare pair of tights but that's a pretty ridiculous suggestion to me.)
And one post from /r/SquaredCircle asking about it where one of the replies (upon which the comments seem to agree is the right answer) suggests it was his 4 Horsemen logo, that it was a stylized 4 with a hook on it. Which would be all well and good if redditors weren't constantly talking out of their asses and this made any sense at all.
How the hell does a hammer and sickle look like a number 4? Pillman did have tights very similar to this while in the 4 Horsemen, but it was a pretty simple 4H logo.
Additionally, Brian Pillman did also use a different stylized 4 Horsemen logo while he was in ECW, which I'm assuming is what this redditor is assuming the OP is actually talking about:
In addition to these two logos looking nothing alike, it would be very strange (in my opinion) for the WWF in 1997 to have Pillman go out in tights promoting a wrestling stable from WCW. It just kinda doesn't add up.
So that's my ramble. Does anybody out there have any idea what's going on or do I need to buy a corkboard and some red string here?

HIII! Iâve been obsessing over your starships, they are truly staggeringly beautiful. I must know your style guide, or references! I am building my own artistic background and your stylized design is so⌠pointy and Victorian and shit. I MUST know! How does it WORK!
Tunguska is a giant root vegetable covered in ship hull texture. It's a cone because that's what physics says the optimal warship is. The radiators were supposed to explicitly evoke the masts, wires and ropes you'd find on ships.
Navikea is more of a mix of trains and tractors. There's no armor so it's all naked function - big boxy cargo bay, ring habitat, giant hydrogen cisterns (physics says you need them) and then just the propulsion part.
Both of them have radiators and engines based on real proposals.
It helps to reference everything but the thing you wanted to make. So, if you want to draw a spaceship, have references that aren't other artists' spaceships. Or even real spaceships.
