I had smth in the drafts for wip Wednesday two (electric boogaloo) and then I despised all of my writing so here we are with wip Wednesday THREE with uhh. Would you hate me if I said pinch points again.

Obi-Wan wakes to the soft rumble and slight vertigo of the ship in hyperspace— and the quiet breaths of Cody asleep in his arms, his head pillowed on Obi-Wan’s bicep. He can feel Cody’s pulse from where his hand is pressed against his bare back. Steady, slow. Present. It accelerates with each inhale, slows down again before the next inhale. All of the pain that Cody has felt, all of the times his heart has stuttered, it’s as though they never happened as Obi-Wan feels the constant, reliable beat of Cody’s heart beneath his fingertips.

He feels it when Cody wakes, too, not much later. His heart rate speeds up to a waking rate, and all of his muscles tense against the length of Obi-Wan’s body with the sense of waking in an unfamiliar place before relaxing again under a newly familiar touch.

His gaze snaps sharply to Obi-Wan’s. “Was that real?” he asks in a hoarse whisper.

Obi-Wan smiles at him, traces his thumb down one of the marks that he accidentally made last night along Cody’s back just to watch him shiver under his hands. “What does your heart tell you?”

Lovingly gazing into your coworkers eyes while he's talking about the sexual and emotional tension of your characters is crazy 🙃

JA: Yeah, and then also playing that off against that tension and the aftermath of some of those fights. It suddenly rebuilds this sexual and emotional tension. Like you said, you get to explore the breadth of a relationship. But yeah, they’re each other’s endgame, aren’t they? In the books, they always come home to each other. I think it’s telling that that seems to be the denouement or the end of a lot of the novels: Louis and Lestat being petty and in love.

yes absolutely, i imagine that too! conversely, i think mihawk would have a little bit of trouble adjusting his balance and reach with a body missing one arm, as well. it's interesting to think about how they both would be forced to change their fighting style, and whether or not they would exchange swords.

mihawk's been seen using yoru with just one hand so he could probably pull it off with shanks's body. also interesting to think about shanks tripping up on having two arms until he naturally slips into his old fighting style again--or would he? because there's also the question of muscle memory, right? would mihawk's body automatically do things that shanks isn't predisposed to doing, and vice versa?

the other thing i find intriguing about body swapping in one piece is the question of whether or not your haki powers would switch as well. they say haki is spiritual presence, so presumably your haki switches if your spirits switch, but if it's the kind of spirit that's tethered to the presence of the body? then consider mihawk having the strongest conqueror's haki out on the blues, or shanks being able to use observation haki at mihawk's level, practically being able to predict the future--or mihawk, able to counter with shanks's haki-kill technique. food for thought!

AHH i read this years ago and remembered it so fondly and just got the craving to reread yesterday and it is even better than i remember! suuuuuch an awesome exploration of how a relationship in this setting between these two would actually work—the way their issues clash and the way they fit perfectly together… everyone feels so beautifully in character and it’s just such a lovely story. thank you for writing this fic, it’s one of my all-time favourites (i think this is my 4th or 5th time reading, lol)
