And now for the first time, a poll idea that got sent to me via request, from @bringerofworlds! Thanks so much for sending in this question, I hadn't heard of these stories myself until I got this ask, so I'm excited to see how many of you all might have read them or know of them yourselves.
@bringerofworlds told me both of these stories were written with the permission of the ACD estate, and blend in with canon pretty seamlessly, so these are definitely going on my to read list! Would love to hear everyone's thoughts if you've read these also.
Please reblog for a larger sample size, they really wanted to see what the fandom's awareness of these stories is, so hoping for plenty of replies! :)

also two things to be aware of if you do read the house of silk
it’s long, I don’t know the page count off the top of my head but the audiobook is 18 hours. the audiobook narrator is excellent though! and the mystery itself is genuinely compelling and kept me invested. Horowitz does interesting things with corruption and class as well, that aren’t always the main focus of the story but are there and intriguing to think about.
the book’s main content warning also spoils its main plot twist. I listened to a podcast episode reviewing the book before reading it, so I had it spoiled for me, and still found the book interesting. idk how you would feel about spoilers for it, so I’ll just say this: I compared it to the orphanage section of LF, and while the book does not deal with medical abuse, a lot of other similar elements are present. I can dm you the specifics if you want.
nodding nodding. i was okay when I did light fingers so ill probably be able to handle it, just gotta mentally steel/prepare myself before hand. appreciate the heads up o7
the real challenge will be getting me to actually read anything lmao. audiobooks arent great for me cuz well uh. i mean my hearing aids do make listening easier but XD

Beautiful promethea moth I managed to untangle some cobwebs from last night :) she stuck around where I put her for a while to rest and recover, and was sent on her way just now! At first I mistook her for a cecropia, but after a little more digging (and the help of some sunlight) I found that she more closely resembles a promethea :D I love her and I hope she enjoys the rest of her little buggy life <3

You can smell the springtime blooms on this remarkable 1882 gown from the House of Worth. It's got all the pieces of late 19th century fashion I just adore, including those sculptural influences. Doesn't it almost look like the kind of detail you'd see on marble statues.
So, this is silk, silk, and silk. Silk flowers, satin, and some gauzy bits, too. The Met doesn't give us any details other than "silk" but it doesn't take a fashion forensics expert to recognize sheers.
One of my favorite things about the 1870s and 1880s is the playfulness with symmetry. Until this point, the vast majority of Western fashion really focused on symmetry in everything. Which is, of course, very lovely. But alongside the rise of mass industrialization came a shift in composition, a desire to fiddle with the rigid structures and emulate nature and, perhaps, a little chaos, too. Perhaps that's one of the reasons it's so very appealing to me.
There's a whole lot more about Charles Frederick Worth over here if you're interested. He was quite the character.

"While Rabban is only featured wearing his armor in the first film, Part Two reveals him wearing black silk pajamas like the Baron in Part One. The character is more aloof and his clothes more decadent." - The Art and Soul of Dune: Part Two.

09.12.2024 - a book that changed my life
the house of silk by anthony horowitz
"it is impossible to imagine what the world will be like by then, what advances mankind will have made, but perhaps future readers will be more inured to scandal and corruption than my own would have been. to them i bequeath one last portrait of Sherlock Holmes, and a perspective that has not been seen before."

2024 Roundup
Told myself that I would do less this year on purpose. First of all, stopped self shooting because honestly I hate self shooting. Second I just didn't really feel like doing a lot. Don't know how to explain it but that's how it be sometimes.
Lotta personal stuff happening too that made me decide to not do a whole lot of cosplay stuff. Hopefully I can get back to making more in 2025.Despite being a slower year, I really feel like I got to connect more and better with people. Through it all, I'm here and still cosplaying. Thanks for sticking around.
Photos: Unironically all of the nice photos are from Zach Mleczek Photography and Videography If it's a selfie or a random full body shot, that's me. The rest is literally Zach
