What I've learned about Tumblr Who Fandom this past week is that Pleasant-Looking New Series Guy always beats Sexy Classic Series guy. Women do not appear to have this problem quite as badly.

First time playing BG3 and gosh, I love Minthara SO MUCH.

Not only she is amazing example of how narratively include evil character in good-sided party without making them a murder hobo, but also… it’s so refreshing to see a companion who won’t (and, honestly, don’t want nor need to) change by our influence. My character is absolutely gold-hearted hero (the way I got her was my determination to knock out as much enemies as I can bc my Tav doesn’t like killing that much, ESPECIALLY their own kind), she is pragmatic power-hungry noble but we still have to find a middle ground to help each other in our more or less same goal.

Her scene at the end of act 2 is so beautifully made. The only thing I’m really sad about is that none of answers options fit the narrative I wanna create and in contrast with her lines sounds really dumb.

My inconsequential pet peeve with the dragon age fandom is the erasure of male Lavellan and the assumption all Lavellans romanced Solas. And that's the devs' fault cause like Solas should be a bi option or AT LEAST discuss the vallasin (i am not looking up how to spell that) thing with male Lavellans also. But that didn't happen soooooooo like...I don't do bald dudes and I like to play as funny little guys. Where is my funny little guy Lavellan rep???? He's very silly and he loves buff, emotionally constipated women who devalue his religious background and who leave him to become the pope (it's problematic tbh)

i need to write my love letter to rook's theme (not the chosen one) because it's possibly my favorite game track ever. like i love how character driven veilguard's ost is as a whole, but rook's is easily the best. i feel like it speaks to the character i made, but it feels moldable, like i can make other rooks and it'll still say something about them. i love that they'll throw in that harpsichord sting whenever rook takes charge of a scene. i love the breathy and percussive synths. i love the running string line. i love the key change. it conveys so clearly how rook doesn't have time to stop and take a breath, and how they're forced to take up the mantle in a situation they had little control over. when it plays in the opening bar scene (at least in the fight version) it's almost like an omen of that forthcoming reality. i love that the final phase of elgar'nan's boss fight is a reprise rook's theme music. it has such a great chello (?) solo in it that's so sad and mournful, puncuated by these intersitial drum breaks. i also love that they'll sometimes weave it in with the veilguard theme.

like i think bookending the game with this track is so good. rook's not the chosen one but it is rook's story. with the other tracks i think what they say about the companions is pretty evident, but with not the chosen one you get to define what these motifs mean for rook and you.

idk i just highly recommend listening to the ost album and then the in-game cuts of the soundtrack (playlists here and here) and really soak in how they layer the instrumentation and bring in different motifs from all the themes throughout. (and tbh one of my critiques is they could have done this even more) like yes, it's a high budget fantasy ost, but i think it's a lot more complex and interesting than people give it credit for.

really wanna do a pt where merr and ave and bela are my main party. like, not that they can beat maining fenmerders for terrible and tasty lateral aggressions and not that i don’t know all their banters by heart already but idk- i feel like da2 girls only party has merit even if i’m not necessarily seeing a story angle or anything
