A pro tip from a hotel desk worker: Don't ask us to tell you what room someone else is in, or anything else about another guest's room. It doesn't matter who you are or why you're there, the answer is going to be no. (or at least it should be) 99% of hotel policies say that for security we're not allowed to give that information to anyone, even family, if you're not on the reservation. Also if it's found out that we did we could get fired, or worse depending on the situation that follows. So just don't ask us. It puts us in an awkward position, it puts you in an awkward position. Instead, get your family to tell you their room numbers themselves, or have you put in as an authorized guest.

The streets are calling.
Tumblr media
Eviction is imminent.
I have 5 days to raise $1275
I noticed alot of content surrounding homelessness especially in San Fransisco and Seattle. My biggest fear is being filmed without my consent and being plastered over social media because someone wanted to make a documentary surrounding homelessness without actually helping.
Goal: $1275
CA: $HushEmu
I have nothing (Whitney Houston)
The smallest catalyst can occur to where someone can find themselves homeless. In my case it was my glasses breaking. Not having a back up pair. Not having insurance. Which caused me to be unable to work and drive. Resulting in me losing my job. A piece of plastic was my downfall ultimately.
I need community effort to stay housed. Even $1-2 for everyone who views this clears the goal. Please interact if you truly have nothing to spare. Reblogs ≠ do not equate to goals being met so please ask if curious wether goal has been met.

Update: 4/30/24
1200 reblogs and zero donations. I have 4 days to raise rent before I am given a notice to vacate.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if someone donated my reblog amount and saved me from the streets.
Update: May 1st. No donations. I have 48 hours to come up with $1000

I don't know how many people get their wedding advice from tumblr, but as someone who works in a hotel let me share a few things with all ya'll wedding people.
For Brides, Grooms & Helpful Family Members:
You are probably not the only wedding block at the hotel. (When I wrote this my hotel had 6 weddings over the weekend, 5 of them all on Saturday)
The person who arranges your wedding block is not your wedding planner. They can probably direct you to trusted vendors for things, but they won't make those arrangements for you.
The hotel staff will only know as much as you tell the salesperson arranging your block, and even then sometimes not everything will be communicated.
Your wedding block will probably have a cut-off date for reservations, so make sure your guests know about it. After that date, your hotel isn't required to honor the negotiated price, and if they do they're being really nice.
Please for the love of all that is good in the world, confirm what time check-in is and let your guests know. The hotel's check-in time may conflict with your ceremony time and guests will try to check in on the day of your ceremony and may not be able to get into their rooms early.
Please check with your hotel before you decide to do welcome bags/baskets for your guests. If it's ok drop them off the day before your first guest arrives. Don't surprise the front desk staff by dropping them off without warning.
Same with welcome letters! Some hotels will make them for you with the information you provide, but not all of them. If you're making your own let your hotel contact know ahead of time and drop them off the day before your first guest arrives.
If you're having hair and make-up artists come, make sure you give them your room number once you have it. Front Desk staff are not allowed to give this information for security reasons.
If you are renting a conference room to use as a ready space/dressing room for the Bride or Groom's parties make sure you know when you're allowed in and don't try to get in more than 5 minutes early because the room set up probably won't be done. Please also communicate this to your bridal or groom's party members. (I personally recommend a group text. it worked wonders with my sister-in-law's party)
Also for the conference rooms, check with your hotel on their outside food and drink policy. Sometimes there's an extra charge.
For Wedding Party Members & Guests:
If your Bride and Groom send you a link or information for a wedding block, make the reservation immediately. Don't wait. Most room blocks have a time limit on them, and after that time limit the hotel is not required or obligated to give you the special rate. Anyone who does is being really super extra nice.
Ask about the cancellation policy of the hotel if you think the date might change or something might come up.
Always, always, always ask for and write down your confirmation number for your room. This number will be the first thing a Desk Agent will ask for if we can't find you by name at check-in.
Make any requests (Early check-in, feather-free, away/near elevator, etc.) for the room right away. If you're asking for early check-in, say what time you want to arrive. But keep in mind requests are never guaranteed unless you need an accessible room.
If you are booking rooms for other people for the love of god make sure you give the names of those other people immediately. Hotel security rules and policies make it so that desk staff are not allowed to confirm or deny if you are staying at the hotel to other people, and we are not allowed to talk to others about your reservation. This means if Mary Smith makes a reservation under her name but it's for Dylan Smith and Dylan Smith's name isn't anywhere on the reservation, we can't tell Dylan anything about it; we can only tell Mary.
For Everyone at the Hotel:
Again, the wedding you're attending is probably not the only one in the hotel.
The Front Desk also probably doesn't know a whole lot of information about the wedding you're attending. Sales usually handles all of that and if we're lucky we have a letter to hand you with the information. We might have helpful tips (like checking with the bus driver what wedding they're shuttling for), but otherwise, we don't know a whole lot.
On that note don't get mad, sarcastic, or passive-aggressive with the front desk staff if you're at the hotel early and they say there are no rooms available. We know you're with a wedding, and we are doing our best to get you into a room as soon as possible.
The likelihood of getting into a hotel room before Noon is slim to none. Hotel check-out times can vary from 10 a.m. to noon, and many housekeepers don't get in until 9 a.m. So unless there was an empty room from the day before, you're probably not getting in before noon. For my personal hotel, I usually recommend 1 or 2 for early arrival.
Additionally, the more requests you make about your room the less likely you are to have an actual early check-in.
If mobile check-in is available at the hotel download the app and do it! This way you'll be able to keep an eye on your room and won't have to call the hotel 500 times to check in.
If you absolutely must arrive on the day of the ceremony and are hoping for an early check-in, call someone who's already at the hotel and see if you can use their room to get ready in just in case yours isn't ready yet.
If you think you'll be cutting it close to midnight before you can get to the hotel to check in, call the hotel and let them know. Most of them have some sort of procedure or tricks to make sure your room is available for you.
Most hotels don't do daily housekeeping anymore due to a lack of staff, it's also often hard for staff to get away from their current tasks or duties to deliver amenities to your room. So if you need extra room amenities (towels, kleenex, soap, etc.) your best bet to get things quickly is to stop by the desk in person and pick them up.

Happy Paperback Publication Day to @jonnywaistcoat and FAMILY BUSINESS!
DEATH. IT’S A DIRTY BUSINESS. When Diya Burman’s best friend Angie dies, it feels like her own life is falling apart. Wanting a fresh start, she joins Slough & Sons – a family firm that cleans up after the recently deceased. Old love letters. Porcelain dolls. Broken trinkets. Clearing away the remnants of other people’s lives, Diya begins to see things. Horrible things. Things that get harder and harder to write off as merely her grieving imagination. All is not as it seems with the Slough family. Why won’t they speak about their own recent loss? And who is the strange man that keeps turning up at their jobs? If Diya’s not careful, she might just end up getting buried under the family tree. . .
'A triumph, thriving on relatable fears, hyper-realistic dirty homes, and understandable grief' - Fantasy Hive
'It completely blew me away' - FanFi Addict
'Don't read by yourself in a strange hotel room if you want to come out psychologically unscathed' - Me, specifically, learning lessons the hard way so that other people don't have to.
If you want a book that will:
Make you twitch at strange shapes outside the windows as the nights get darker
Break you in the smallest ways with the simplest observations of the meaning of humanity and love
Give you new and exciting things to be scared of that actually, on reflection, had probably always been lurking in the depths of your psyche just waiting to be called up
FAMILY BUSINESS is the book you want to grab.
